LOVE Me Tender," Elvis Presley's first movie, is also his most unusual. It was the only time the King played a supporting role, and it was the only movie not originally conceived with him in mind.

According to a documentary accompanying a new 50th-anniversary DVD out this week, "Love Me Tender" began life as "The Reno Brothers," a script that had been kicking around 20th Century Fox for a while.

It got dusted off when producer Hal Wallis and MGM - who had signed Presley to separate contracts - got bogged down in developing what became two of the best Elvis...

ELVIS: PLAYING IT HOT IN '55

It appears a local radio station aired (and likely taped) this Saturday evening 19 Mar'55 performance at the Eagle's Hall in Houston, Texas.

From Presley's first "Well ..." it's clear how confident he was; the crowd just eats it up. Launching into "Good Rockin' Tonight," swinging through an
unreleased-at-the-time cover of "I Got A Woman" and closing with "That's All Right, Mama," Elvis, Scotty and Bill rock the house!

This is the coolest known Sun-era live recording of Elvis Presley, bar none. Sadly, this concert has never been released with its pitch corrected.

ALL LPs and CDs present tracks 1, 3, 4 and 5 speeded way up, while track 2 runs much too slowly; however, with the proper speed adjustments exclusively heard here at :
http://www.elvisrecordings.com/houston1.htm

The music comes alive with the pure excitement of the Hillbilly Cat!One even notices moments like Elvis shouting "let's get hot" during several Scotty Moore solos!

If this ever gets reissued properly (and it should) 'Get Hot' would be a most appropriate title.

It should be noted here the tape mix is voice-heavy, but it captures what it was like to BE THERE in 1955.

The Killer Stays Cocky As Ever.

Jerry Lee Lewis doesn't do phoners. So, when you want to interview the rock legend who jump-started a generation with songs like "Great Balls of Fire," you have to e-mail his manager, who e-mails his lawyer, who goes over the questions and then submits the queries to Lewis.

While it's kind of annoying, the process seems to work. Here are "The Killer's" thoughts on a few topics including rock 'n' roll and his upcoming new album, "The Pilgrim."

Question: You're playing a concert here on Wednesday. Some people in Sioux Falls are wondering if you can still kick out a wild and flamboyant show at age 70?

Answer: I still rock 'n' roll as well as I ever did. I probably won't set the piano on fire anymore - the fire marshals kind of frown on that. But people seem to love my shows.

Q: Your new record, "The Pilgrim," was slated for a March release. How did it feel to record with the likes of Little Richard, Mick Jagger, Toby Keith and Kid Rock?

A: Is it slated for a March release? No, I'm kidding; the date just keeps changing. We all had a lot of fun making this album. I've worked with Richard for years and always enjoy it. Mick and I have worked together, too. It's kind of funny, but in the song that Mick and I do, "Evening Gown," our voices sound remarkably alike. I never noticed that before. Toby Keith was a pleasure to work with.

Kid and and I really hit it off. We did "Whole Lotta Shakin' " live on the Willie Nelson special last year and he got up on the piano like I used to do. When the song was over, I took the keyboard cover off the piano and just handed it out to the audience. When we left the stage, they were still passing that cover around the audience! All in all, it was great working with those guys and every other artist on the album! There's so many talented people on this album, just so much good music. I'm really proud of it.

Q: What's the best song on "The Pilgrim?"

A: The best song? I can't even begin to tell you. They're all good, but I think my personal favorite is "Twilight" by Robbie Robertson.

Q: Are you going to perform some of the material from "The Pilgrim" here in Sioux Falls?

A: I'm sure I'll do a song or two from the album. I've been performing "Rock and Roll" and "Before the Night is Over" in my past few shows. But, you know, I really don't ever know what I'm going to play. I don't work from a song list. I just play what I feel like playing.

Q: Where did your manic stage flamboyance, like kicking the bench away, sitting on the keys, come from? Was it practiced or did you just move as the moment compelled you to?

A: I was just giving them hard down rock and roll that first time when I
kicked it over. They loved it so I just kept on doing it.

Q: As a man who grew up in a religious home, was it painful or frustrating to hear people call your songs the "devil's music?"

A: No, it never really bothered me what people said. I've always known that my talent was God-given.

Q: Have you seen "Walk the Line?" If so, did you agree with the portrayal of you in the movie?

A: No, I haven't seen it yet. I'll probably see it when it comes out on DVD. Several people that I know have seen it, though, and they said Waylon Payne did a really good job. I met him a few weeks ago and my daughter, Phoebe, told me later that he walked off and fainted. Can you believe that?

Q: Why do you think more young rockers don't play the piano?

A: A piano has 88 strings; a guitar has 6. The piano is a much more complex instrument.

Q: If there hadn't been the backlash from you marrying Myra, would you have been bigger than Elvis?

A: It's been said many times that I would have been.

Q: You've been alive through the entire lifetime of rock 'n' roll. In your opinion, who are the most important musicians in the history of the genre?

A: The most important stylists in musical history are Hank Williams, Al Jolsen, Jimmy Rogers and Jerry Lee Lewis. Hank Williams' writing is distinctive, and you'll never hear a Hank Williams with a sharp note in it. He sang everything flat. Jimmy Rogers, the "Singing Brakeman" started the whole thing as a kind of "blues yodeller." Al Jolsen was the first crooner; he'd walk out without a microphone and just grab the audience by crooning directly to him. And my style is distinctive because I just naturally blended boogie woogie, gospel and rock 'n' roll. I never said I was the greatest, just the best.

Q: Do you still carry a gun?

A: Not often. I do still collect guns, and I'll carry one if I think I need
it.

Q: What song do you want played at your funeral?

A: Well, I think that question's a little premature. I haven't got that far yet.

Priscilla offended by tabloid headline.

Priscilla Presley says she is offended by suggestions there is something wacky about her family. Tabloid magazines this week labelled as "kooky kabuki" her daughter Lisa Marie's marriage to musician Michael Lockwood in Japan, with both wearing kimonos.

"It does offend me," Presley told AAP in Sydney. "It was not wacky in any sense of the word because you appreciate a culture and you appreciate tradition, that is wacky for somebody to say that."Lisa Marie and Lockwood exchanged vows in a traditional Japanese ceremony on January 22, both wearing traditional Japanese costumes. It was a fourth marriage for Lisa Marie who has previously been married to Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson and Danny Keough, the father of her two children. Priscilla Presley walked her daughter down the aisle and gave her away.

"The wackyness isn't on our end," said Presley. "I don't think we have ever been known to be wacky."Maybe having lived our whole lives in front of everyone, things might look that way but this was so well thought out and she is very happy." Presley described Lisa Marie's wedding as "beautiful". "The wedding was everything she wanted and the mood was so tranquil and very traditional in dress," she said. Priscilla Presley arrived in Australia on Saturday for the worldwide launch of her bed linen range with Australian fashion designer Bruno Schiavi, titled The Priscilla Presley Collection. The 60-year-old was married to Elvis from 1967 to 1973 and has two children, Lisa Marie with Presley and Navarone Garibaldi with partner Marco Garibaldi. She acknowledged that Elvis, who died of a heart attack in 1977, was always going to be a big part of her life.

"It was such an impactful era that I think everyone feels they own a little bit of Elvis," she said after the launch at Sydney's inner city Myer department store. "As far as separating myself, I can't really deny that was history and I was very much a part of history in that sense. "It was a great time, a great era and a great loss".

Elvis Well Over One Billion Now - Source: Ernst Jorgenson.

Hey you all, I had a chance to read an interesting letter today from Ernst Jorgenson to a friend of mine in the music business and Ernst has little doubt in his mind that Elvis not only has sold over a billion records, but has outsold the Beatles (who would be second) by a great deal.

I will try to get the letter and post it when I can, but the points I recall are as follows. For one, Elvis had a huge lead being first out of the gate and being, of course, the number one selling artist of the 1950s and an unprecedented sales phenomenon to that point at that. And even though people act as if Elvis somehow musically went away in the 1960s while making his movies, Ernst mentioned that he was still the number two selling artist in the decade at that time only behind the Beatles. He mentioned that people should get a copy of Billboard where it lists its greatest artists (through the 20th Century) and make note of the point scoring system where points are awarded to an artist for their record achievements and make note of the fact that Elvis exceeds 5000 points while the second place Beatles barely passed the 3,000 mark overall. As he mentioned, Elvis was #1 in the 50s, #2 in the 60s and #11 in the 70s while the Beatles didn't even register in the top 20 during the decade of the 70s. Ernst mentions too, that Elvis' 70s ranking in that book is also artifically low because it has not been updated with Elvis' record sales from 77 through the end of 79.

He also pointed out that Elvis was well ahead of the Beatles still in 1970 and that Elvis - worldwide - sold excellently in the 70s while the Beatles had disbanded.

Also, from his talks with industry execs. with RCA etc., Elvis' sales from the period of 77-80 were unmatched worldwide and truly put the icing on the cake. And it is those sales records that Ernst and others have continually looked for with him saying that they have found some of what they were looking for. (whatever that means as I wish he would give specifics) He did reference - for example - Moody Blue as not even being represented for even half its sales US sales saying they had the proof on it. (Why has there been no certification upgrade as of yet I do not know)

He did mention, though, that the Beatles marketing and sales were much better in the 90s, but that Elvis already had a significant lead, never went
away and has always been a steady seller worldwide with events such as the Anniversary of his death always helping to spark sales worldwide. There was also mention that Elvis has been around for fifty years now and that with so many years gone by and so many different outlets for record sales (like Time Life and various specials as seen on TV) Ie. I have never heard of it, but he mentioned an album that came with posters called Elvis From Hollywood in the 70s - sold over TV - that sold millions upon millions that is not counted and so on.

Has anyone heard of this album? Apparently, it was a several record set and came with record album size photos of Elvis in Concert. This was just an example of many Ernst gave where Elvis sold millions upon million of records and they show up no where in his RIAA statistics. Oh, as to Moody Blue, he did not give a specific number but did say it would not surprise him if Moody Blue were truly Elvis' only 10 million selling album. He also said Aloha from Hawaii numbers are low too and gave other examples I do not remember.

The Bright & Exciting Future of the Graceland Visitor Experience.

Following is a press release from EPE's parent company, CKX, Inc.:

Company Looks to Preserve Elvis Presley's Historic Home, While Adding to Visitors' Experiences and the Memphis Economy

NEW YORK, Feb. 23, 2006 - Capitalizing on the ever-growing national and international fascination with Elvis Presley, CKX, Inc. (Nasdaq: CKXE) -- which controls Elvis Presley Enterprises and substantially all assets comprising the Presley estate -- has held meetings with prominent Memphis, Tennessee officials to explore ways to expand upon and further promote the legacy of the King of Rock and Roll.

With Graceland already one of the five most visited home museums in the nation and the most famous home in America after the White House, the discussions have focused on CKX's desire to grow the Graceland experience as the centerpiece of the Whitehaven section of Memphis. While plans and designs have not been finalized, CKX outlined significant aspects of the proposal to officials.

Robert F.X. Sillerman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CKX, commented, "As we are upon the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley's explosion into our culture, it is only fitting that Graceland assumes an even more prominent role in American culture and tourism."

Working in conjunction with Bob Weis Design Island Associates, a world-renowned design firm, the goal is to enhance the visitor's experience in the area surrounding Graceland while preserving the integrity of the original mansion.

"For years, Elvis Presley Enterprises and the Presley family have envisioned a project like this," said Jack Soden, Chief Executive Officer of Elvis Presley Enterprises. "We are thrilled to be able to move this concept forward."

Sillerman added, "To date, Elvis's fans have only seen a small fraction of the hundreds of thousands of Elvis artifacts currently warehoused. We're thrilled that beginning next month, with the Elvis '56 and Elvis After Dark exhibits and continuing through the proposed expansion, fans will have the opportunity to view more and more of this never-before-seen array of items."

The Elvis '56 exhibit is part of Graceland's year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the year Elvis Presley's career exploded and the music and popular culture of the world changed forever. The exhibit highlights his historic television appearances, his memorable concerts, his first mega-hit recordings, his first movie, the introduction of the big business of Elvis merchandising, and the first home his success allowed him to purchase for his family.

The Elvis After Dark exhibit is themed around that fact that, for much of his life, Elvis Presley was a "night person." After the sun went down, he'd
go on after-hours shopping sprees at department stores; rent out the Memphis Fairgrounds as his own personal amusement park; turn the Memphian movie theater into a private screening room for himself and his friends; host parties at home and at local clubs; or schedule late-night appointments with his jeweler. In short, he made Memphis his nighttime playground.

Billionaire Mogul Has Big Plans For Graceland.

Robert F.X. Sillerman, the billionaire media mogul who owns a controlling stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, wants to transform Graceland into an international attraction on par with Disneyworld and double the 600,000 visitors who annually visit the King's former home. Sillerman wants to partner with local government and business leaders to help make that happen.

"I want to let them know about some exciting things we hope to bring to Memphis," said Sillerman, who also owns the smash-hit television show "American Idol. We want to improve the fan experience and attract even more people to Graceland and we are going to present some ideas that include a refurbishment of the area, not just relating to Graceland but some scenic improvements to the area that involve local officials."

What Elvis Needs Is An Opera.

Robert Sandall asks was The King's life too tragic for a musical? Given the never-ending appeal of all things Elvis - from the music to the memorabilia, and let's not forget the moon sightings - you would assume that Presley musicals must be a regular box-office earner. You might also expect that a life as studded with historic events and immortal tunes as his would have attracted some of the most illustrious names of musical theatre.

Not so, however. In the 28 years since he died, there have been only two serious attempts to render the King and his catalogue on stage in Britain. The first, masterminded by the veteran pop impresario Jack Good at London's New Astoria theatre, appeared shortly after Elvis's death in 1977 and was aimed squarely at the grieving fans.

A rather hurried re-telling of the life, with 82 songs attached, Elvis: On Stage was significant mainly for kickstarting the cult of the impersonators. Reviews tended to focus on the relative plausibility of Shakin' Stevens and P J Proby as the young and not-so-young Elvises respectively. The drama, such as it was, was straight off the CV, and there was little in the way of dialogue. The playwright Alan Bleasdale headed bang in the opposite direction six years later with Are You Lonesome Tonight?

Bleasdale's Liverpool Playhouse production took the music as read, and focused on Presley in his declining years, portraying a reclusive fatso holed up in Graceland and contrasting this sad grotesque with the lean, mean rock and roller of the 1950s. It was a well-received and powerful drama that contained a few excerpts of Presley songs - but it was hardly a musical.

Since then, the boom in stage musicals with pop themes has pretty much passed Elvis by. The most recent attempt to hitch him to the Mamma Mia! bandwagon was All Shook Up, an ambitious American farrago that grafted a selection of 24 Elvis classics, along with the plot of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, on to a love story set in Sticksville USA in the 1950s. It closed last September after only four months on Broadway.

There is one clear difficulty with Elvis musicals that shun the All Shook Up route and take as their subject the man and his music. How do you reconcile the joyous exuberance of his finest songs with the claustrophobic squalor that took over his life? Ironically, it was the decision of Presley's manipulative manager Colonel Parker to sign him up for a string of shoddy film musicals that fenced him off from his audience, and precipitated his descent into cheeseburger hell.

But just try to find the emotional equivalent of that in the Elvis songbook. Conveying the ruined grandeur of the poor boy from Mississippi who changed the world then lost his soul and died on the lav is a tough call for something as cheerful sounding as "Elvis: The Musical". This guy, you begin to suspect, requires nothing less than an original operatic score to himself.

In the absence of that, maybe, just maybe, This is Elvis: Viva Las Vegas! has the answer. This new musical, which is currently touring the country before - demand permitting - transferring to the West End in the summer, looks closely at the only remotely happy phase of Elvis's later career. It covers his triumphant comeback on an NBC TV special in 1968 - in which he appeared clad in black leather with a 30-inch waist and a guitar - and his subsequent, disastrous installation as an uber-crooner in the International Hotel in Las Vegas in 1970.

The Vegas contract was the last, and perhaps the most damaging, of the Colonel's money-driven betrayals of his dependably gullible client. While the paperwork on the deal was being signed off, Elvis was dreaming of touring the South performing outdoors with his band on the back of a flatbed truck. The tour never happened; instead the King was progressively dethroned by stage fright, prescription drugs and mountainous quantities of junk food.

For the Elvis faithful however, memories are not made of this, and the new musical knows it. Thirty of the greatest hits, played by an 18-piece band, and a lead with form - Simon Bowman, whose performance as Elvis in Bleasdale's Are You Lonesome Tonight? was widely praised - are trying to keep the legend alive without losing sight of the guy who created it. If it works, it will be a first. If not, Elvis will have to stay in that limbo to which our collective creative imagination seems to have banished him: the moon.

'This is Elvis' UK tour dates include the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh (0131 529 6000), Mar 6-11 and the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham (0870 607 7533), Mar 13-18.

Memphis Summers Are So Hot.....

Memphis summers are so hot and humid that the air sticks to human skin like a glove. It was on such a day in August 1953 that a shy 18-year-old cradling a battered, beat-up guitar entered the Sun Records office at 706 Union Avenue.

Elvis Presley had passed that way often, walking, driving. Perhaps he had hesitated once or twice outside, simply to make note of the location. "When he finally entered," writes Peter Guralnick in Last Train To Memphis (1994), "there is little question that he stepped through the doorway with the idea, if not of stardom, at the very least of being discovered."

Since Elvis worked five days a week at a local machinist's shop, he showed up at Sun Records on a Saturday. It was hot, and there was no air conditioning in the waiting room. Marion Keisker, the office manager, looked up from her typewriter to see him approach. "Can I help you?" she asked. She could barely hear his mumbled reply that he wanted to make a record. Marion told him it would cost $3.98, plus tax. For another dollar, he could have a taped copy as well. But he chose the less expensive option.

Marion started up a conversation with the nervous Elvis. He said, "If you know anyone that needs a singer." And Marion asked, "What kind of singer are you?" He replied, "I sing all kinds." She said, "Who do you sound like?" To which Elvis replied, "I don't sound like nobody."

Elvis was ushered into the studio, where it was obvious from the first quivering notes of the first song he sang that there was something unique about him. When he finished one song, he embarked upon "That's When Your Heartaches Begin," a ballad the Ink Spots had originally cut in 1941-and simply declared "That's the end" at the conclusion of the song. He then looked expectantly at the man in the control booth. Sam Phillips nodded and said politely that he was an "interesting" singer. "We might give you a call sometime." Thus began a relationship that by late 1954 saw Presley emerging as America's greatest pop icon.

That the rock 'n' roll revolution would be ushered in by Sam Phillips is not all that surprising. The son of poor tenant farmers, as a child Phillips worked in the cotton fields of Alabama with black laborers. "A day didn't go by when I didn't hear black folks singing in the cotton fields," he said. Phillips, thus, recognized his musical roots and was always savvy to new sounds. He saw in Elvis what he had been looking for-a white singer who sounded black-and recorded Presley's first five singles. The first became a hit, a 1954 cover of black bluesman Arthur Crudup's "That's Alright, Mama." "God only knows that we didn't know it would have the response that it would have," Phillips said in 1997. "But I always knew that the rebellion of young people, which is as natural as breathing, would be a part of that breakthrough."

Phillips began in music as a radio station engineer and later as a disc jockey at stations in Alabama and Nashville before moving to Memphis. When he began recording artists, he dealt with many black singers. As more black-oriented labels began to emerge, however, they sought more control over the recordings they issued. As a result, Phillips turned to white artists with the motto, "We Record Anything, Anywhere, Anytime." In the process, he merged white country music with black rhythm and blues to create a new sound. "What there was a need for," Phillips would later say, "was a rhythm that had a very pronounced beat, a joyous sound and a quality that young people could identify with."

Phillips lived up to his motto. After signing Presley to the Sun Records label, he went on to produce some of the greatest pop recording artists of all time. These included Jerry Lee Lewis ("Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On"), Carl Perkins ("Blue Suede Shoes") and Johnny Cash ("I Walk the Line"). Phillips also gave a home to Roy Orbison, Conway Twitty, Charlie Rich and Howlin' Wolf, among many others.

Before the 1950s had ended, the tentacles of the Sun Records sound had permeated virtually every crook and crevice in the western world. Phillips also helped influence what later became the British Invasion. In fact, it was the joy found in the early Sun releases that was reflected in the music of The Beatles and caught the ear of young Robert Zimmerman, later to become Bob Dylan.

A mark of the high regard in which Sun Records was held is reflected in the number of tribute records about the label-including The Lovin' Spoonful's "Nashville Cats" in 1971 and John Fogerty's 1985 "Big Train from Memphis." Thus, it's fitting that Phillips was the first non-performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. And the Sun Records location was recently named a national historical site (the first recording studio to be afforded this honor).

Sam Phillips continued to work up until his death last week at the age of 80 in Memphis. "I'll never retire. I'm just using up somebody else's oxygen if I retire," he said in a 2000 interview.

Phillips died knowing he was leaving a huge legacy-one that began in the South, as fueled by black musicians, and later finding root in the hearts of the youth in the 1950s. But he never lost sight of the fact that rock 'n' roll originated and thrived in a frantic atmosphere filled with wild-eyed abandon. "We're all crazy," Phillips has said of himself and his Sun charges. "But it's a type of insanity that borders on genius. I really feel that. To be as free as you have to be for any kind of music, you almost have to be in another dimension. And to do the broad expanse of rock and roll takes an element of mind expansion that people less creative would term insanity." Thanks for the insanity, Sam.

THE ULTIMATE TRIBUTE BUT MORE OF THE SAME.

A DREAM CONCERT EXPERIENCE IS JUST A DREAM BUT WITH SILLERMANS MILLIONS IT COULD HAVE BEEN A REALITY!

EPE have announced a "spectacular concert event" to mark the 30th Anniversaryof Elvis' death. Yes! A spectacular concert event starring Elvis Presley via video, accompanied live by a large cast of singers and musicians who worked with him.

Hang on, are you sure that the "Spectacular Concert Event" isn't the show formally known as "Elvis The Concert" which were performed in Memphis in 1997 and 2002?

It has been speculated and discussed by fans around the world for years and many, including us, were hoping that for the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death, EPE would have set its sights on making the concert event of the  year.....Anywhere!

Especially when you remember that Bob Sillerman, who's company, CKXE is valued at over One Billion dollars, now owns Elvis Presley Enterprises and entertainment company 19 Entertainment, who of course work closely with BMG on the American Idol show.

A live show produced in the same way as the excellent "Elvis The Concert" but with some of the worlds major performers singing on stage with the King himself in a duet along with some of the top musicians backing them up.

The concert would not only sell out in hours but it would be a global event with sponsors lining up to pay for prime advertising, Television companies would be battling for the rights to screen such an historic and musically important event and the following DVD, album and single release would sell tens of millions of copies around the world.

But with the old management at EPE still firmly in place, innovative and groundbreaking ideas will not be forthcoming! EPE, you need to Speculate to accumulate, if you can work with everyone involved and not demand ridiculous fee's then everyone wins. And you may well help bring in the next generation of Elvis fans with money ready to spend in your souvenir shops.

Elvis Breaks Through.

Photo:Performing "Heartbreak Hotel" in June 1956.
(BETTMANN/CORBIS)

Fifty years ago today, on February 22, 1956, a song inspired by a suicide note and sung by a greasy-haired new musical talent entered Billboard's pop music top ten. The song was "Heartbreak Hotel." The singer, as Life magazine put it, was a 21-year-old "hillbilly who howls." His name was Elvis Presley. The American music scene would never be the same.

The Presley phenomenon had been gathering steam for months. The scene at a concert in Jacksonville, Florida, the previous May had given a hint of things to come. Some 14,000 teenage fans had turned out to hear Elvis. He had casually said, "I'll see you all backstage, girls." A riot followed after the show, with thousands of teenagers mobbing their idol.

But by early 1956 Presley's popularity still hadn't spread much beyond the South. In November he had played at the Woodrow Wilson Junior High School in Port Arthur, Texas, with an audience of 100 people. He continued to perform on the Louisiana Hayride country-music radio show, a job he had signed up for in 1954 at $18 a shot. He had recorded some classic tunes with Sam Phillips's Sun Records, but he had yet to score with a hit song.

Two developments had just put the spurs to his career. First, Elvis had jettisoned his manager and hired Colonel Tom Parker, an ex-circus worker with a genius for promotion. Parker had taken the cowboy singer Eddy Arnold and made him a star in the 1940s, complete with movie contract and Las Vegas bookings. He was hoping to do the same with Elvis.

The second development was that Elvis had signed with a major record label. RCA Records had bought out his contract from the musically innovative but financially strapped Phillips. Parker had induced the New York company to gamble $35,000 on his unproven Memphis crooner.

While Parker adroitly handled the singer's business arrangements, Elvis himself shaped the music. "Heartbreak Hotel" was a strange choice for his first single on the new label, but it did reflect his eclectic musical sensibility. The country musician Tommy Durden had read the previous year about a well-dressed man who had killed himself and left a note that said, "I walk a lonely street." Durden talked over the story with Mae Axton, a schoolteacher and publicist for Parker in north Florida; she suggested erecting "Heartbreak Hotel" at the end of that street, and the two wrote the song about it in half an hour. Axton offered Elvis a third of the writing credit if he would record it.

"Heartbreak Hotel" was a moody number with a jazzy tang and a tragic motif. Record executives questioned whether it would appeal to Elvis's teenage constituency. It did. The melancholy lyric and plaintive melody, the alteration between wild shouting and sob-laden crooning-it all exactly captured the Elvis mystique. His musical judgment was vindicated. "I'm so lonely I could die," he sang, and the teenagers responded.

Presley was a great fan of the cinematic poses of Marlon Brando and James Dean, and he dreamed of becoming an actor himself. "Heartbreak Hotel" reflected the influence of movies like 1955's Rebel Without a Cause, in which Dean brilliantly acted out teenage angst.

Elvis's emphatic, reverberating rendition of the song, together with Tom Parker's relentless promotion, made for an unprecedented hit. After the
single reached the charts in February, it soared to number one by the end of March. It sold a million copies in just eight weeks.

The record turned Presley into a focus of nationwide youth hysteria. The phenomenon was not entirely new. Frank Sinatra had set off paroxysms among bobby-soxers in the 1940s, and hordes had gone wild over Rudy Vallee in the 1930s. But no performer had approached Elvis Presley's popularity.

Controversy helped. The bump-and-grind dance steps he worked into his act, along with the insinuation that dripped from his voice, were "deeply disturbing to civic leaders, clergymen, some parents," as Life noted. A Miami paper labeled his performances "obscene." A Jacksonville judge threatened him with jail.

One-night stands and radio could take a performer only so far. In previous decades it had been Hollywood movies that raised singers to the status of superstar, and Parker immediately began to negotiate a movie contract for Elvis. But by the 1950s a new medium was available, and television would become the engine of the singer's rise. He first appeared on the small screen in January 1956, singing on a show hosted by the swing-era stars Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey. Most of the audience that night tuned in to the more sophisticated Perry Como Show on another network. But in September, when he made his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, he drew 82 percent of the television audience-an incredible 54 million viewers. He had become a national sensation.

His impact was monumental. "Heartbreak Hotel" topped the lists in both pop and country. He soon had number-one songs in three pop-chart categories simultaneously. He remained in the top ten continuously for the next seven years, and he launched the rock-and-roll juggernaut that would establish the style as the dominant form of popular music for the remainder of the century.

But in 1956 his fans weren't thinking about his place in music history. As one 15-year-old girl declared, "When he does that on TV, I get down on the floor and scream."

Jack Kelly writes often for American Heritage magazine and is the author of Gunpowder: Alchemy, Bombards, and Pyrotechnics-A History of the Explosive That Changed the World.

Priscilla Presley to visit Australia next week.

Priscilla Presley is launching her new signature range of linen in Australia. The Sydney Morning Herald recently carried the following report: Elvis fans showed a flicker of excitement last week with news Priscilla Presley is planning a visit to Australia to launch a signature range of linen.

Of course, it wasn't the upmarket sheets that got fans excited, rather the prospect of the King's wife being here in the flesh. Insiders say Presley is heading to Australia a couple of days before the official Sydney launch of her signature range on February 28.

That means she'll have some time off to relax, which might just include watching a few shows at Melbourne's upcoming fashion festival. The business relationship between Presley and Sydney-raised designer Bruno Schiavi - who helped her design the linen range - is interesting because it shows off Schiavi's strengthening reputation among international celebrities. Schiavi, who initially found fame inventing the pocket sock (as you do), developed a strong local reputation working on signature lines for celebrities such as Delta Goodrem and Mark Philippoussis before shifting to the US. Fans can see Priscilla at the launch of her range of New Luxury Bed Linen at Sydney's Myer Store in Pitt Street Mall on Tuesday 28 February. The launch is at 12.00pm (noon) and there will be an instore signing of purchased products by Priscilla between 1.30pm and 2.30pm in the Level 2 Manchester Department.

FTD bought Speedway and Clambake outtakes from the bootleggers?

According to a posting from Ger Rijff on a message board, the guy behind the Bilko and Fort Baxter labels sold his outtakes of Speedway and Clambake to FTD years ago.

John Walker asks if this makes BMG/FTD hypocritical?: actively working with the bootleg police to shut down these underground operations while at the same time buying their material.

Note:

This was published on the Elvis Website EIN
www.elvisinfonet.com This is a  completely false statement, maybe Gerry Rijff was trying to be funny?

Ger Rijff lets the bootleg cat out of the bag.

An interesting post about the legendary labels Bilko and Baxter saw a follow-up post from the equally legendary Ger Rijff. The original post asked if the labels were still operating under other names and it was subsequently suggested the person behind the labels...

Ger Rijff then posted:

"The old Sergeant visits this mb ? Does he really?! He's such a sweet guy, you know... Our friendship goes back a long, long time. If I'm not mistaken, his uncle VIK came on the scene 25 years ago with The Loving You Sessions, on vinyl .

His aunt did the Pink & Black label, and his cousin played around with the Laurel label... Then there was his father in law, fooling around with the
Rough Cut Diamonds albums and, if Im not mistaken the releases on the Mystery Train label and Southern Comfort... And that's only the beginning... I have to ask the Sarge what other labels he and his family were responsible for...

They was one busy family, they was! OOPS! Almost forgot Fort Baxter!... Ernie Bilko Jr did those...That little rascal!"

Elvis behind the Scenes.

On April 14 & 15, ElvisMatters launches a new in-depth series about Elvis.

This yearly 'event' aims at fans who wish to know everything about Elvis. Two conditions for the American invitees: they have to had an undeniable influence on the life of Elvis - but at the same time, they must have kept a low profile: no books, no documentaries.

Our first guest is somebody who worked for Elvis in between 1975-1977, being responsible for his stage and casual wardrobe. More important: he's the one that introduced Elvis to racquetball.

On top of that, he refused to cooperate with the West brothers for their book "Elvis - What Happened", and that alone makes him a VIP in our eyes: Dean Nichopoulos.

PRESTWICK PLAQUE REMOVED.

Val Phillips has informed us that the plaque commemorating ElvisPresley landed at Prestwick Airport in 1960 is no longer displayed in the airport at the moment?

Val had emailed the airport to ask where it was sited, as she was planning her firstvisit to go and see and take photos for her collection. But the reply was not whatshe expected!

According to an airport spokesperson, "There used to be a plaque in the bar that was called Graceland's. The bar was recently refurbished by new owners and has a new identity so at the moment the plaque is not in the terminal building."

The spokesperson goes on to say, "I think our new owners Infratil are waiting forthe airport to be fully refurbished which we are in the middle of before they put the plaque back up."

I hope that everyone will keep an eye on this to make sure that the plaque does get put back up, not forgotten like in Hawaii for the Arizona Memorial.

Elvis Presley - Desert Storm: The Shattering Of A Myth.

Releasedate March 10,2006.

When Elvis Presley prowled the stage on 2nd September 1974, he could never have imagined this would become his most infamous performance since he'd last wooed audiences with his "pelvic gyrations" in the 1950's. He was now a living legend. He didn't have to prove himself to anyone. Or did he? Why did the King get angry that night? Darrin Lee has painstakingly disassembled every aspect of the concert that was to become known as Desert Storm. His detractors said that Elvis' words were nothing but the mad ramblings of a junkie.

This book uncovers the real, vulnerable Elvis. Elvis wanted to be heard that night. Now, at last, he has been given a voice. This is truly the shattering of a myth. This gripping and extensively researched book has it all: The Drugs Dialogue. The pater-nity suit. Priscilla and Mike Stone. The media allegations. Sensei Ed Parker and The Karate Dialogue. The author, a lifelong Elvis fan, has uncovered the facts behind the fabrications and come up with some startling and suprising conclusions. This is a true story. This is the story of Desert Storm.

New Elvis Photos Found In Graceland Archives.

An envelope of negatives was recently discovered by archivists working at the Graceland archives. This photo, from one of those negatives, features Elvis as he waits to complete his paperwork before boarding a bus with twelve other recruits.

Other photos, all taken on the day Elvis was inducted into the army, on March 24, 1958, feature Elvis having breakfast, signing autographs, and
more.

These photos have probably not been seen since they were given to Vernon Presley, Elvis's father, and he filed them away many years ago.

Because of the large number of documents, contracts, letters and other materials, that are in the Graceland collection, there is an ongoing project
to scan and artifact everything in the collection.

Elvis Still Rockin' At Turnpike Lane Station.

A REWORKING of London's world-renowned Tube map to chart the best of 20th century music has seen Elvis Presley hip-swing his way into Turnpike Lane station.

A glut of stars have descended on the classic Tube map, with each line representing a musical genre, and each station an artist. Funk maestro and Godfather of Soul James Brown has taken up residence in Finsbury Park, where the Piccadilly and Victoria Lines (renamed the Blues & Country and Funk Lines) converge, recognising his transcendence of genres. Also running through Haringey is the Hip-Hop Line (the Northern Line), which sees
trailblazers Run-DMC occupy Highgate and veteran rapper-turned-actor LL Cool J take over Archway station.

The map was drawn up by music writer Dorian Lynskey, who said: "The different character of each line lent itself to a genre. Pop intersects with
everything else so that had to be the Circle line. Classical music occupies its own sphere - perfect for the Docklands Light Railway."

LU Managing Director, Tim O'Toole said: "The Underground and music are essential elements in the vitality of London. The Tube and music are
synonymous in many Londoners' minds, through the songs or the memory of travel to a fondly recalled gig."

The famous Underground map was designed by Harry Beck in 1933. Previous adaptations of the map include Simon Patterson's The Great Bear designed in 1992 which features philosophers, actors and politicians.

Lisa Marie Presley Married

LOS ANGELES - Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of rock 'n' roll king Elvis Presley, has married guitarist and music producer Michael Lockwood in a ceremony in Kyoto, Japan, her publicist said Thursday. Presley, 38, and Lockwood exchanged vows in a traditional Japanese ceremony on Jan. 22, spokesman Paul Bloch said.

It was Presley's fourth marriage. She was previously married to Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson and Danny Keough, who is the father of her two children.

The bride's mother, actress Priscilla Presley, walked her daughter down the aisle and gave her away, Bloch said.

Daughter Riley Keough was maid of honor and son Benjamin Keough was a groomsman.

The best man was Presley's first husband Danny Keough.

Also attending the wedding were Lockwood's parents, Vivian and William Lockwood.

Lockwood was Presley's musical director and is listed as executive producer on her 2005 album "Now What."

Presley lives in the Los Angeles area but Bloch said he didn't know where the couple planned to live.

Elvis? Did you ever see Elvis when he was on vacation in Hawaii or Colorado? Did you ever see Elvis in any unlikely Place?

He was, and still is a phenomenon that hit this world with such an incredible impact, the ripple effect is still being felt over 50 years later.

The Elvis Presley Show - Holding Down The Fort.

Right after " Elvis - A Legendary Performer Volume 8 " the Madison label will issue a double CD set titled " The Elvis Presley Show - Holding Down The Fort, " featuring the much-heralded Fort Worth, Texas concert from June 3, 1976. About five years ago Madison issued portions of this show, unfortunately far from complete and in lesser sound quality. However, this 2006 collection will be taken from a first generation soundboard recording in superb sound quality. And the packaging will include a 16 page, illustrated booklet with relevant text. But there's more!

For the first time, this " 30th Anniversary Edition " will feature all the music from the " pre-show, " with Joe Guercio and the Hot Hilton Horns, J.D.
Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, and The Sweet Inspirations. All these performances will be as presented that night in Fort Worth. Highlights from
the first CD include " When The Saints Go Marching In " and "You'll Never Walk Alone" from the Stamps, and the Sweet Inspirations energetic vocals on " Philadelphia Freedom, " " Lady Marmalade " and a medley of Stevie Wonder hits. The stand up comedian Jackie Kahane's set was not recorded and will not appear on this release.

Elvis' concert itself will feature all the tracks previously released on Madison's Cajun Tornado, but this time in great sound quality from the first generation soundboard recording and in unbroken running order. Some of the previously unreleased performances will include " If You Love Me (Let Me Know), " " Heartbreak Hotel, " " Help Me " and many more. Don't miss the dynamic 1976 return of The Elvis Presley Show to Cowtown.

Manuel Cuevas instrumental with Elvis' fashions.

Quite possibly the coolest collection of the week came from a 73-year-old Country & Western legend. Take that fashion snobs!

I don't listen to country music, but after living in the beautiful state of Colorado for six years now, I'm embracing Western style. I wear my Frye
boots all the time. I own a pair of cowboy boots. I even bought a pair of Uggs (OK, not Western, but definitely Colorado). I love my Rockmount shirts. And, if only I could afford it (up to $4,500 for a ready-to-wear outfit), I'd be buying up all of Manuel Cuevas's first New York Fashion Week line. And, then, I'd buy up all the men's line for my husband. The coolest leather jackets, shearling coats and customized denim are the height of cowboy couture. Some fast facts on Cuevas, courtesy The Daily: In the 1960s, he was head tailor for Nudie Cohn, Hollywood's celebrated rodeo clothing designer, where he made duds for Hank Williams, Roy Rogers, John Wayne and Dolly Parton. "I've known Dolly since she was in training bras," he says.

When Walk the Line became a hit song, Johnny Cash ordered nine outfits to take on the road. "I made the outfits, and he called me and said, 'I
received my suits, but how come they're all black?' It just became his thing for his whole life. We were very close."

Manuel was key in developing Elvis's aesthetic, beginning with the famous gold lame jacket. "It was the most horrible suit I ever made in my life...But it turned out to be his most famous look." He also made the 70s white rhinestone and fringe Vegas jumpsuits.

In 1967, Manuel designed the Beatles' uniforms for the Sgt. Pepper album. "Those guys were just fun people, great kids, and everybody loved them all over the world. I could have thrown a sheet on them, and everyone would've loved it."

Manuel is credited with designing not only the Grateful Dead's skull and rose logo but also the Rolling Stones tongue. "I made a pillow with the tongue image on it for Mick's birthday. When I make something for someone, I find a part of them -- with Mick it was a big mouth and a loose tongue." Elvis Presley Enterprises does not own the film Elvis On Tour and has not played any role in the German DVD release.  We do not know why Warner Brothers' German branch chose to release the exisiting version of Elvis On Tour rather than wait until the new edition Warner Brothers in America is planning becomes available.  Whenever Warner Brothers has information to share about the content of the new DVD and its release date, information will be posted in News on our site, our FAQ item about the concert films will be updated and we will include the information in our e-newsletter mailings.

Billy Smith, Elvis' cousin and Memphis Mafia member talks candidly to EIN.

Billy Smith was Elvis' first cousin, the son of Gladys Presley's oldest brother. Billy was 8 years younger than Elvis and grew up with him in Tupelo. Billy's family also went with the Presleys when they first moved to Memphis.

When Elvis bought Graceland Billy's family also moved in and his father Travis worked for Elvis as Chief guard. When Billy was old enough he started  working with the 'Memphis Mafia' team.

Once married he & his wife Jo lived behind the main Graceland house except for a few years when Billy worked on the railroad. They were true family and were in Elvis' company to the very final day. Being both family, and also a member of the 'Memphis Mafia', Billy Smith was probably the closest friend that Elvis ever had.

Billy lives in Mississippi & is still working as a machine specialist in a steel manufacturing company.

Ernst Jorgensen Talks .Elvis Insiders.

Ernst just spent an hour answering various questions posed by Elvis' Insiders on the Graceland website. Here's a - best of - transcript from Elvis Sessions for the  www.elvisinsiders.com

Question: Could you tell us if you've run across anything on all those tapes that are going to really blow our minds, on a future FTD... like a complete song that was never recorded, or something Elvis spoke?

Ernst Jorgensen: No. We haven't found any new song since we found the other version of Roustabout. But we are still looking.

Ernst Jorgensen: What will be on the Sun CD will be the original version [of That's All Right] without the reverb that RCA added to it.

Question: I was wondering if there are any shows from the 50's that might be released in the future?

Ernst Jorgensen: Yes... we have one complete show from 1956 that we haven't released yet. There is no release date set at this time.

Ernst Jorgensen: The Sun book is coming out this year or next year.

Question: Have these boxes of paperwork [regarding sales figures] been researched yet and is there any possibility of another major upgrade for the 30th Anniversary of Elvis' death in 2007?

Ernst Jorgensen: We constantly upgrade with the sales numbers we can find. But you can't blame Sony BMG, we bought RCA in 1986 and we only got what they left. There is a lot of sales information missing and that may never been found.

Question: Now that [Kevan Budd has] had even more time to work with these [Sun] classics can you say whether they will sound even better on your book/CD project?

Ernst Jorgensen: They will not sound any better - but there will be a lot of other [material] that will be just as good that you have not heard in this quality.

Question: will Elvis' last concert be released on the FTD Label? One more question if you don't mind will there be DVDs released as well?

Ernst Jorgensen: I think we will eventually. We are still holding to find a soundboard so we don't have to release the audience recording that we have. FTD has no rights at the present time to release DVDs.

Question: Do we have both you and Roger to look forward to at our EI conference in August?

Ernst Jorgensen: We are still working out details on scheduling.

Question: I', curious as to what you guys might have planned as far as the '77 recordings. Also. Is the Elvis On Tour project being pushed back so that it can be released for the big 30th anniversary? We are patiently waiting.

Ernst Jorgensen: The only decisions at this time are that we will release soundboard recordings from 77 covering more shows. And we are discussing releasing the last concert on FTD at some point. As for Elvis On tour... I am impatiently waiting too. I trust something will happen on this issue in the not too distant future.

Question: Besides (maybe) a sneak peek on significant content details on the April releases, can you tell us which of the other rumored FTD releases for the next year are likely and what other new releases we might expect?

Ernst Jorgensen: The April release is pretty straightforward. One is called Made in Memphis and consists of outtakes from 1969, 1973, & 1976. Something for Everybody is the same treatment of the album Elvis is Back. In the classic album series, we are also working on Clambake and Wild in the Country. And on the soundboard side, we are currently putting together a Las Vegas February 1974 album.

Question: Which is your personal favorite [FTD]? If you had to send one to someone, to show them what Elvis is all about, which one would you send?

Ernst Jorgensen: That is difficult. They are all my babies. I think the most surprising and possibly most important was the Jungle Room Sessions. It
showed the stage of Elvis's career in a very different and possibly more attractive way.

Question: What is the status of the FTD Sun Era Project?

Ernst Jorgensen: We are still researching and writing so there is no release date yet.

Question: Just wondering if the soundtrack reissues on FTD are at a dead end or if there are enough outtakes for FTD treatments of the remaining albums.

Ernst Jorgensen: We have a number of releases where we don't have extra materials and we are searching for materials for these. But the majority of them will be released as these deluxe CD releases.

Question: Is there any one thing you've been looking for and haven't found.... yet?

Ernst Jorgensen: Shows from the Louisiana Hayride in 1955.

Question: Besides a possible Elvis on Tour special edition -- which I realize BMG doesn't control -- do you have plans for a fresh package that you expect will garner widespread attention (beyond the ranks of us fanatics)?

Ernst Jorgensen: We always are discussing this with EPE and we always are trying to come up with ideas that will attract new fans to the Elvis
catalog. But we are not giving away details at this early stage.

THIS IS ELVIS ANNIVERSARY DVD IN 2007?

Andylon Lensen mentioned last year October for EpGold.Com that the DVD This is Elvis (an extented Version) and Girl Happy was planned for release in 2006.

Now a change of plan and a confirmation has been made to Jon Romanovich for the Film "This Is Elvis" .

Warner Brothers will release this in Aug 2007. Now it will be a 2 DVD set.

Andrew Solt says he has no longer a creative control. He will be more of a consultant on the project, lending his voice for commentary.

Warner Bros and EPE are combining forces (per AS) for the DVD.

Country singer Garth Brooks is close on the heels of legendary Elvis Presley.

Country singer Garth Brooks is close on the heels of legendary Elvis Presley for best-selling solo artist in history with his latest release The Limited  Series.

The box set was released exclusively through Wal-Mart and the total album sales of Brooks totals to approximately 116 million.

Note: A new Brooks album was also released on 7.2.06 and sales of this will definately overtake Elvis on the RIAA totals.Come on Sony BMG - where are all those missing sales.

In the circumstances, it would be greatly appreciated if all readers could e-mail Joe Dimuro at Sony BMG in New York and request that they spend more money on researching Elvis' back album sales.

His e-mail address is
joe.Dimuro@sonybmg.com

Brooks albums are not the best-selling solo artist.

But the artist with the highest total of RIAA awarded sales.

The King and I - Bernard Lansky.

Photo: Elvis Presley & Bernard Lansky

Ever wonder where Elvis got those way-out threads? (From Lansky's on Beale Street, man) 'He always called me Mister Lansky'. The unmistakable Southern accent echoes through the clothing store in the lobby of the regal Peabody Hotel at 149 Union Avenue, Memphis. 'I told him, 'Call me Bernard.' But Elvis always said, 'Thank you, Mister Lansky'. He was brought up right. His mother brought him up a gentleman'.

Bernard Lansky has seen a lot of Memphis history in his 78 years, and from his elegant haberdashery, which he runs with his son, Hal, he's furnished the wardrobes of rock 'n' roll royalty for more than a half-century. His original shop, on famed Beale Street, is where music and fashion made  beautiful harmony.

Elvis Presley was raised on the sound of gospel music sung at church services he attended with his parents, Vernon and Gladys. The family moved
to Memphis in November 1948, when Elvis was 13 years old.

Bernard, meantime, was one of nine children of immigrants from Kiev. His father bought a used clothing store at 126 Beale Street for Bernard and his six brothers, ensuring they'd have secure jobs working as their own bosses. But Bernard took one look around and said, "It ain't me."

He tried an Army-surplus clothing business, but the postwar inventory eventually dried up. "So I started high fashion for the ethnic people," he says. "They had bands and concerts."

The store took off. 'Cut, make and trim. Lot of people wanted to look hot on Saturday night. They'd come into the store on Friday night, we were so busy. One day I saw a bright young man walking on Beale Street. I knew he went to church down there where they had gospel singing'.

Bernard and young Elvis struck up a conversation. 'He looked in the window and said, 'You have some nice stuff in there', Bernard recalls. "'When I get rich, I'll buy you out.' I said, 'No, don't buy me out, just buy from me.'" Elvis was an usher at Loew's theater at the time. He cashed his paycheck and made his first purchase, a $3.95 shirt. Later, while still attending L.C. Humes High School, he had the tailor create an ensemble set of black pants, pink coat and pink-and-black cummerbund for the junior-senior prom. "He always wanted to be the belle of the ball," Bernard remembers.

'One day he came in and said, 'I'm going to be on TV with Ed Sullivan.' So, I got him dressed and told him how much it was. Elvis said, 'I got a  problem. I got no money.' I told him, 'Yes, that is a problem. But I'll tell you what, I'm going to float you.' That was the key in the lock for him and
me.'

It wasn't long before Elvis bought Graceland--he was 22 years old. "He got good and did a lot of concerts," says Bernard. "Memphis had a lot of pimps, gamblers. We had high fashion in the window. I'd do tailor-made mohair, silk and wool. Flare leg, no back pockets. Twenty-six-inch knee, 14-inch bottom drape. Then I made thinner legs."

Word got around in the music business. 'Elvis Presley was my PR man all over the world', Bernard recalls. 'I put clothes on Johnny Cash. He brought me a Prince Albert tobacco can and pointed to the man on the cover. 'I want this,' he said, 'a black suit.' I made a cutaway coat with black pants. Didn't have to worry about him, he always wore black'. The stream of entertainers kept coming: Frank Sinatra, Sonny Burgess, Carl Perkins and others.

But Bernard never forgot who put his little store on the map. 'I used to make deliveries for Elvis at Graceland. Gladys, his mother, would greet me at the door. They used to stay out all night on gigs. They'd eat breakfast at four o'clock in the afternoon. Gladys would tell me to take the clothes up to Elvis' bedroom and come back down and eat breakfast with them. Vernon Presley was sitting right there. Every time he went out on gigs with Elvis, Vernon would get three suits'.

Bernard was shopping in Dallas in August 1977 when he learned that Elvis had left the building for the last time. 'We flew right home, and I went out to Graceland', Lansky remembers, sadly. 'He was a heck of a nice guy. I put him in his first suit, and I put him in his last suit'. Bernard Lansky's creations suited the King, but they never brought acclaim from the fashion world. An article in the January 1957 Sunday New York Daily News column 'What's on TV' in fact named Elvis 'Worst' Dressed Male TV Star'. TV's 'Best' Dressed that year was Hal March, according to style authority Irving Heller. The dishonor stung, perhaps, but then, who does entertainment history remember? Elvis or Hal March?

Today you can still stroll through the formal lobby of the grand Peabody Hotel in Memphis and up to the ornate glass doors of Lansky's haberdashery. The world's top fashions are on display, along with signed guitars from the likes of Jimmy Dean, Johnny Cash and the King himself. Behind the counter you'll still find Bernard Lansky. At 78 years old, he has a wiry frame, and is usually dressed in a designer tie, blue shirt and sleeveless cardigan. He still shakes hands with a strong, bony grip. Every morning at six o'clock, the tailor to the King is in, and ready for the next big thing.

Site Of Elvis' Last Stadium Concert To Close.

The Pontiac Silverdome is getting ready for its final bow. The former home of the Detroit Lions most recently hosted 2006 Super Bowl activities, including Pittsburgh Steelers' practices.

It's scheduled to close after a February 25th fundraising walk. The Oakland County Walk for Warmth raises money each February to help people pay their heating bills. Pontiac has said the dome would close sometime this month.

It hasn't finalized plans about the future of the 132-acre site. The Silverdome has hosted many significant events, from Elvis' last stadium concert in 1975 to the 1982 Super Bowl. Pope John Paul the Second led a Mass there that drew 93-thousand people at the end of his 1987 U-S tour.

INVESTIGATION OF U.S. CHARTS

Elvis is set to remain at the top of the Billboard Hot Single Sales Chart for the 4thconsecutive week, with the 50th anniversary release of his fist RCA hit recording, 'Heartbreak Hotel'.

And as Elvis rules the U.S.A with singles sales, he still does not appear on the much ridiculed "Billboard Hot 100 Chart".

Any national music chart that uses radio play to formulate it's listings is flawed and open for corruption. It means that the U.S charts does not indicate what the public like, it indicates what the radio station want you to hear.

With this in mind, the following could be more important to the future of getting Elvis back on the radio than we think!

ABC TV show 20/20 is to air an investigation on Thursday night that is set to blow the lid on the corrupt American music charts. The special claims to be the most comprehensive investigation into corporate payola in the history of the music industry.

Paying to play records on radio -payola - seems as old as the recording industry itself - but this time its not low level promoters under investigation - its the record companies and the conglomerates that own thousands of the nation's radio stations.

Attorney General Eliot Spitzer says evidence he has gathered clearly shows some of the radio conglomerates have participated in the illegal practice of accepting payments from record companies and middlemen for guaranteed air play for certain songs.

Spitzer says record company documents obtained in the investigation of Sony BMG and Warner, both which have settled with the attorney general, reveal payments for songs that became major hits, including Jennifer Lopez's "I'm Real" and John Mayer's "Daughters."

Spitzer's probe could be the most comprehensive to ever hit the industry. Sony BMG settled for $10 million. Sony BMG agreed to cease any questionable business practices and to comply with Spitzer in his ongoing probe

Other artists whose songs are named in the documents Spitzer has obtained include Jessica Simpson, Celine Dion, Maroon 5, Good Charlotte, Franz Ferdinand, Switchfoot, Michelle Branch and R.E.M.

A LOOK AT THE TCB GANG DVD.

Narrated by Charley Pride, this DVD begins with Elvis singing 'Kentucky Rain' and introduces Joe Esposito and Al Dvorin to the viewers.

Dear Al starts off by saying to Joe that they were all very lucky to have been around Elvis and then goes on to tell a great story of how the first  met Elvis and comically says that the only job he never did for Elvis was dye his hair.

Then we are introduced to Jerry Shilling, Dick Grob, Sam Thompson, Charles Stone and Loanne Parker. Each one shares a little story of being around Elvis and as soon as they are all together the memories really start to flow.

The documentary is produced well and one thing that really comes across is how relaxed and happy all of them are to see and be with each other again for the first time in over 7 years.

I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this, many wonderful and comical stories are told by all.

From Elvis and Jerry Schilling getting a little tipsy and leaving the hotel for their car only to realise that they are staying at the hotel, the time a  hotel would not allow the Sweet Inspirations to say there because they were black and then Elvis pulling everyone out of the hotel as a result, to the time the Colonel bit his cigar in half thanks to Charles Stones driving.

There are too many stories to mention and you really do need to see this release! You can almost imagine yourself being there with these guys and joining in the fun.

In fact, Lana and I nearly was! Charles Stone was trying to get us over there to appear on the documentary but sadly that never came off.

A chance of a lifetime missed but still one we can treasure always just by putting on this DVD.

Velvet Jesus? Velvet Elvis? False Idols!

Human Rights Protestors Create World's First Velvet Muhammad; Velvet Prophet Paintings Given to Radical Islamic Groups

New York, NY February 7, 2006 -- With or without fluorescent paint, few things are as quintessentially kitschy as black velvet paintings. But many political leaders in Europe and the United States seem to agree with the Pope and the Islamic community that free speech is what's truly out of style. In response to this officially endorsed cultural intimidation, an international group of brave human rights activists have created the Velvet Muhammad to demonstrate that "free speech is never in poor taste."

The Prophet, who shares a remarkable likeness to the King, can be viewed in all his finery at
www.velvetprophet.com - or soon, in the offices of several major Islamic organizations. The Velvet Prophet team is giving original, hand-painted Velvet Prophets to several of the groups inciting rage in Muslim communities. Gift recipients include Jamaía Islamiya, Arab European League, Muslim Council of Britain, Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Islamic Defenders Front, Islamic Circle of North America and the Organization of the Islamic Conference. These organizations, which were appalled by a few cartoons, will see for themselves that the Prophet looks much more dignified on black velvet.

The Velvet Prophet is also available to mere infidels. Global citizens who support freedom of expression and oppose the spread of culturally oppressive forms of Islam are hanging their very own Velvet Prophets in homes and businesses. If some true believers wish to murder us all for the sin of being human, at least give us the freedom to laugh about it.

All profits from the sale of Velvet Muhammad paintings, shirts and prints go to non-profit organizations that either support free speech or work against the growth of radical Islam.

ABOUT VELVET PROPHET PEOPLE:

And what of the team behind Velvet Prophet? We like our heads attached to our bodies, thank you very much. Art and social commentary should not meet with threats of violence. We'll keep painting the Velvet Prophet until this insanity ends. As Matthew Parris wrote in The Times of London, "Structures of oppression that may not be susceptible to rational debate may in the end yield to derision." On Saturday 4th February 2006, the Daily Mail gave away a free copy of the 1957 Elvis Presley movie, 'Loving You'. In doing this, the UK newspaper recorded unprecedented sales of over 3 Million copies.

A great success that we are sure the Editor and board members are over the moon about! So how disappointing it is that just 2 days later, the same newspaper repays Elvis for giving them  unprecedented sales for their Saturday paper by starting a tabloid sensationalist series that appears to set out  to dehumanise Elvis Presley.

A series which includes comments like; "Dee supposedly said that Elvis (blah! blah! blah!) but then she was going through a messy divorce so things she said should be treat with cynicism".

But the reporter still goes on to say "he had sex with his mother" and then goes on to say "it must be rubbish".

This is, in my opinion, the worse kind of journalism there is. Shove in some scandal but at the same time say of course it isn't true. Including this
stuff which has been dismissed by real investigations over the years is pure and simply an attempt to sell papers and at the same time detract from the real importance of Elvis Presley.

Because you just know that the words, "it must be rubbish" will be ignored by the general public and critics but the words "he had sex with his mother" will stay around for years to come and the journalist knows this only too well.

CALL FOR RECOGNITION
As it was Elvis Presley who brought sales figures of over 3 Million copies of the Daily Mail on Saturday 4th February, we call for all fans around the world to contact the editor of the Daily Mail and demand that the paper needs to show some respect and produce a special gold award in recognition of Elvis Presley and Loving You selling 3 Million copies of their Newspaper.

Send your letters to the Daily Mail Editor:

Elvis left the building but now he's in the theatre in South Africa.

Coming up on the Durban theatre scene soon is the new musical-comedy When Basil Met Elvis, which will premiere at the Catalina Theatre on Wilson's Wharf on February 22. The show's run ends on April 2.

everything goes up the spout.Basil ends up saving the day, assisted by his friend, former showgirl Saffron Bowls (the bubbly Lisa Bobbert). Written and conceived by Philander, When Basil Met Elvis celebrates the music of the King and his contemporaries

Philander and Themi Venturas co-direct and Callie Thompson is in charge of musical direction. Thompson also performs with a live band featuring her husband Barry, alternating with Rowan Stuart on guitar, Shaun Peterson on drums and Nikki Lotter on bass. When Basil Met Elvis will run from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8pm and on Sundays at 6pm. Tickets cost R70, with R60 concessions. BEST LEFT FOR CHIP WRAPPING

We did say that we would be reprinting the 5 part series currently running in the Daily Mail every day this week for all to read!

However! We have decided NOT to do this after we read the first part of David Jones' major investigation! As we feel the paper would be best left for wrapping fish and chips for the weekend. After all, when a major investigation gets a simple thing like how many UK number ones Elvis has had, wrong! (Mr Jones claims 18 -but the FACT is Mr. Jones it is 21) what credibility can be given to the rest of the investigation?

I thought that Doctor Who had whisked me away in the Tardis and we had arrived in the 1980's to once again be surrounded by tabloid trash with bold text sub-titles like: He spied on female guests as they undressed and He was reading raunchy porn, the later refers to Ginger Alden saying that Elvis was reading a book about the Turin Shroud when he died! But according to Dr. Dan Worlick, who led the inquiry into his death, Elvis was reading a raunchy and hardcore pornographic book when he died?

If this is investigative reporting at it's best then we should all do pretty much would appears to have been done here. Take a couple of out of print books and some old newspaper stories and re-hash them. Then fly to Memphis and throw some cash at those that knew Elvis and fill in the blanks of your "Major Investigation".

There are several excerpts from Albert Goldmans two books about Elvis and Mr. Jones has enlisted the services of:
Patsy Presley Gambill
George Nichopolous
Marty Lacker
Gordon Stoker
Charlie Hodge
and Joe Esposito

Here we are in 2006 and once again, instead of the media starting to take a serious look into the music and influence that Elvis Presley brought to the 20th Century, we have taken one giant step backwards thanks to a man named "Reporter of the year" who has written nothing more than a re-worked piece of sensationalist tabloid crap.

The way David Jones describes Elvis in his last year really highlights the compassion and understanding that he has obviously not grasped during his
investigation....He describes Elvis as a "Bloated Freak Show".

Will I be buying the rest of the Daily Mails serial of this "Major Investigation" - NO!

Woman far from 'Heartbreak Hotel' after slot machine win.

A Porterville woman is far from "Heartbreak Hotel" after hitting it big on an Eagle Mountain Casino slot machine bearing the name of - who else - Elvis.

"It still hasn't sunk in yet," said Nancy Berkovich, 63, who won a $196,233 MegaJackpots award on an Elvis quarter slot machine Wednesday night. Berkovich was convinced by her sister-in-law to go up to the casino earlier in the afternoon.

"We sometimes go up with her during the evenings so we can eat at the buffet and have a good time," Berkovich said. "But she called us out of the blue and we said sure, we'd go."

Berkovich said she has played the Elvis game "I don't know how many times."

She didn't know that the Elvis game was a "progressive" slot machine: A machine that is hooked up to a network of similar machines at various casinos which builds a progressive jackpot usually larger than what an individual casino like Eagle Mountain can offer on its own

She said she plays it because it reminds her of growing up with Elvis. Berkovich and husband Gary, her high-school sweetheart, grew up during the
1950s, Elvis' heyday. She remembers going to Porter Theater and seeing Elvis' first film, and she and Gary have visited Graceland on a vacation to
Tennessee. Now, she's getting that Elvis money - well, not quite Elvis money, but she and Gary said they'll take it.

"When you've had to work all your life and raise four children, something like this is nice," Gary said. "It would have been nice to have these funds
when raising the kids."

Petula Clark talks about Elvis' final days

Petula Clark talks about life, Elvis.........and the night he tried to seduce her

Trivia: English singer Petula Clark has recorded more than 20 Top 40 hits and was the biggest selling solo female act in England, Australia and New
Zealand during the 1960s

Britain's best-selling female singer reveals she feels badly for young pop stars like Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson.

Petula Clark, who has sold more than 70 million albums, compares today's chart-toppers to tissues.

"You know, you use one and throw it away and get another one," says the legendary singer, who performs March 10th in the Avalon Ballroom at Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario. "It's a little bit like that and I think that must be very tough."

Clark, whose hits include Downtown and Don't Sleep on the Subway, admits she is bothered by performers on shows like American Idol and Canadian Idol.

"I see these kids coming in with such great hopes. Of course, some of them do make it but how long are they going to be there and what happens
afterwards?

"Nobody seems to talk about that and that's really the sad part, I think." Clark, 73, said today's music consumers are to blame.

"It's because the audience is much younger and they're not as faithful to their stars as they used to be back in the 60s."

Born in Surrey, England, Clark has recorded more than 1,000 songs and has graced both the silver screen and stages in London's West End.

Clark admits she finds it increasingly difficult to find new challenges.

"The great roles for women of my age are few and far between and I think I've done them, really," she says. "I'd love to do a new (theatrical) show
but people are very scared about putting on new shows. They're so expensive and extremely risky."

Clark says she has had offers to write a memoir about her remarkable life and career.

"I've thought about doing it but it would take so much time out of my life. I'd have to sit down and think about that for two years, at least, and there's so much of it that I would probably forget a lot of it," she says.

"And there's stuff that might be rather delicate, shall we say, involving people that may not be so happy about having their names in it. And a lot of the good stuff I wouldn't be able to tell, frankly."

Clark does recall, however, seeing Elvis Presley shortly before his death.

"The last time I saw him was not so nice because it was near the end and that was really very sad. I went to see the show and he could hardlysing. Most of the singing was being done by his back-up group. I mean, he had it down pretty pat. He knew the things he just couldn't sing anymore so it was all carefully worked out that it didn't look too bad.

"He was very, very overweight. I went backstage afterwards and he came in and he was kind of out of it, frankly. I hate to say it but he wasn't there anymore. Everybody was saying: 'Fantastic, Elvis, fantastic!' and it wasn't. I just didn't know what to say to him any more and I just gave him a kiss and said goodbye. It was not a happy goodbye at all."

Just years earlier, Clark recalls, the King had tried to seduce both she and her friend, the late Karen Carpenter.

She reveals: "We were just doing sort of a girls night out and we went to see him and we went backstage, of course, and we had a very nice time with him. Little by little all of his chums and, you know, hangers-on disappeared
from the dressing room and it was just Elvis, Karen and myself.

"After awhile I realized that Elvis was coming on quite heavily to both of us. Karen was very innocent, at the time anyway, and I was sort of like the older sister. I said, 'Karen, we've got to get out of here' and she said, 'What?' and I said, 'Come on, we're leaving Karen.'

"So eventually I more or less dragged her out. Elvis looked a bit downtrodden by this. He wanted us both. And that was my first meeting with Elvis."

Not too long ago, Clark visited Memphis and toured the late singer's famous home, Graceland.

"I was surprised. Graceland is a nice little house. I mean, it's not a huge mansion or anything and I found the whole thing very moving. There wasn't anything pretentious about it and I thought that said a lot about Elvis. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would."

The night after visiting Graceland, Clark said she stopped by a bar on Memphis' famed Beale Street, where she was invited on stage.

"I sang Hound Dog, which I had never sung in my life," says Clark. "I was up there for 20 minutes singing that damn song and it was as if Elvis was right there by my shoulder saying, 'Yeah, okay, go girl!'"

ELVIS MENTIONED IN STATE POEM.

House approves state poem. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS JACKSON - Mississippi has a state bird, a state water mammal, even a state toy.

A bill that zipped through the state House on Wednesday would designate an official state poem."I Am Mississippi" by entertainer Paul Ott evokes images of magnolias, antebellum homes, rusty plows, cat head biscuits and blackberry jam. It mentions some of the state's famous sons, including Elvis Presley and B.B. King. Miss Mississippi gets a nod, but no famous Mississippi women are mentioned by name. Ott copyrighted the poem in 1990.

It was not clear whether lawmakers had considered other writers' poetry. The bill moves to the Senate for more debate.

I Remember Elvis CD By Wanda Jackson Released.

She may not have become a household name the way Elvis did, but in the mid-`50s Wanda Jackson shared a bill - and a special friendship - with the Hillbilly Cat.

He inspired her to try her hand at rock`n`roll and rockabilly, and that experiment led to her pioneering role as the first female star in those
genres. Half a century later, Jackson pays homage to Elvis' influence through an album of fiery covers ('Good Rockin` Tonight,' 'Heartbreak
Hotel,' 'Mystery Train'), spoken remembrances and an autobiographical tune ('I Wore Elvis` Ring').

The package also includes rare photos and liner notes by another Elvis - Costello - who has led a campaign for a long-overdue Jackson induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

D. EDWARD STANLEY ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF FIRST FEATURE FILM AT AMERICAN FILM MARKET

DALLAS, TX-(FEBUARY 26, 2004) D. Edward Stanley, independent film producer and president of Impello Films Inc., announced the development of his first feature film "THE HEADHUNTER" at the American Film Market (AFM) held in Santa Monica, California February 25 to March 3, 2004. Stanley, the film's writer/producer, is drawing from the wealth of his own life experiences to bring this powerful original story to the screen. Experiences which for Stanley, began when he was four-years-old and suddenly found himself living in the Graceland Mansion with new big brother Elvis Presley following the 1960 marriage of his mother Dee to Vernon Presley, Elvis's widowed father.

THE HEADHUNTER hits high gear with its portrayal of Stanley as a 16-year-old high school student who just 24 hours later finds himself with the biggest and hottest rock show of the 70's as a personal bodyguard to the King of Rock and Roll. Growing up fast, Stanley quickly builds a repertoire of skills from martial arts to guarding the secrets of his big brother. From 1972 to 1977 Elvis refuses to leave the house without Stanley. The film
chronicles the close relationship and experiences of the two brothers on and off the road from the frightening pressures of tour schedules and Elvis's use and abuse of prescribed medications to the tragic toll of the fast-paced lifestyle on the world famous rock star and his young stepbrother. The pivotal moment for both men comes on August 16, 1977 when all Stanley's consummate bodyguard skills, devotion and love are not enough to save Elvis from the one person that proves fatal - himself.

"This movie isn't about high collars and sideburns," Stanley said. "It's not a story about Elvis Presley. It's a true story about what it was like for me
at the age of sixteen to be plunged into the surrealistic, self-destructive world of an international icon. An icon who was also my big brother, surrogate father, mentor and friend."

Stanley has written four books on his legendary stepbrother including co-authoring "Elvis We Love You Tender" which earned a place on the New York Times' best sellers list. He is considered a leading authority on the life and times of his legendary stepbrother. As president of Impello Films, Inc., D. Edward draws from the wealth of his own life experiences to bring powerful original stories to the screen for theatrical distribution. Stanley's THE HEADHUNTER is scheduled to go into pre-production in early 2004.

I REMEMBER ELVIS Wanda Jackson.

Legions of singers cite Elvis as an influence. Few, however, can back up the claim as personally and dramatically as Wanda Jackson, who toured with -- and dated -- Presley in 1955. If that hadn't happened, Jackson, then a teenage honky-tonk singer from Oklahoma, might not have embraced Elvis's fusion of hillbilly music and rhythm and blues and gone on to become the "Queen of Rockabilly."

And she certainly was that. In 1957 Jackson went head-to-head with her ex-boyfriend, her feral, growling version of "Let's Have a Party" outstripping the King's. Jackson's unhinged performance on that tune alone is grounds for her overdue induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"I Remember Elvis" would be a worthy tribute if only for the loose-limbed playing of Jackson's band, and for the relish with which she digs into everything from "Mystery Train" to "Heartbreak Hotel." And yet it's more than that. "He took me home in his pink Cadillac," she sings to the bouncing beat of "I Wore Elvis' Ring," the record's one new song. "We sang all our favorite songs/Spinning records all day long."

From the snapshots of Jackson and Presley that fill the CD booklet to the unaccompanied recitation that closes the album, the whole package testifies to a formative, if fleeting, friendship. Maybe best of all, it presents a tender, down-to-earth Elvis, the boy "they called . . . the Hillbilly Cat long before they called him King."

ELVIS HAD GAEL, THEN AN EGG.

LONGTIME New York magazine restaurant critic Gael Greene has just as massive an appetite for sex with larger-than-life lovers as she does for gourmet delights.

In her upcoming memoir, "Insatiable: Tales From a Life of Delicious Excess," due out in April from Warner Books, the unrepentant hedonist describes steamy nights of passion with Clint Eastwood, porn star Jamie Gillis and Elvis Presley in between dishing on her favorite haute-cuisine meals. "For me, the two greatest discoveries of the 20th century were the Cuisinart and the clitoris," Greene writes.

Among the hotter hookups she details:

* Clint Eastwood: "He came to my room at the Beverly Wilshire. I opened the door, and my knees buckled at the impact of his Clint Eastwoodness . . . I was a puddle of Jell-O. I forget any questions I need to ask. I'm not sure we even spoke. It never occurred to me that what we had might go on beyond the Beverly Wilshire. It was wonderful sex in an era of wonderful possibilities."

* Jamie Gillis: After watching X-rated movies together in a coin-operated booth at a Times Square porn shop, they headed off to have sex. Greene writes, "He took off his belt and bound my wrists . . . pushed me down into the thick fur of the rug, ripped at my panties. He unzipped his jeans. He was naked, as always, underneath . . . He slapped me slightly with the end of the belt. I couldn't help it. I felt so silly. I started to laugh. After all, I'd begged for this. He slapped me again. I gave into the pleasure."

* Elvis Presley: "I think it was good. I don't remember the essential details. It was certainly good enough. I know the reality of it was
thrilling beyond anything I might have imagined." After they finished, "He twitched a shoulder toward the phone. 'Would you mind calling and ordering me a fried egg sandwich?' The fried egg sandwich - that part I remember. I can't remember . . . how long the sex lasted, or even who was on top (probably me). But I have never forgotten the fried egg sandwich."

At the end of the book, Greene muses, "I miss the extravagant love notes, the demented poems, the endearingly worshipful boy toys, the unexpected breakfasts in bed, champagne and peanut butter sandwiches in the park. I miss dancing all night and not needing to diet. I miss falling in love, being obsessed with sex. I miss [bleeping] into oblivion and coming back."

Next Show Entertainment is proud to announce the long awaited release of a limited edition - special collector's edition -  of the dvd entitled:

In August of 2004, seven of the closest and most personal friends of Elvis Presley gathered together at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel to reminisce and exchange stories about their personal experiences and admiration for Elvis Presley, "The King of Rock-n-Roll".  Present at the filming were:

The Late Al Dvorin - Elvis' friend and master of ceremonies.
Joe Esposito - one of Elvis' closest friends, road manager and best man at Elvis' marriage to Priscilla.

Jerry Schilling - one of Elvis' closest friends and Memphis Mafia Member.

Dick Grob - Elvis' Chief of Security and friend.

Charles Stone - Elvis' friend and concert producer.

Loanne Parker - the widow of the late Colonel Tom Parker and close friend of Elvis'.
Sam Thompson - Elvis' friend, personal bodyguard and tour advance man.

This collector's edition DVD has many unique features, some of which are listed below:

1.  Last film footage of the late Al Dvorin, Elvis' friend and Master of Ceremonies. Unfortunately and at the loss of us all, Al Dvorin was killed in an auto accident within forty-eight hours of the filming of this remarkable DVD. It is to his memory, that this DVD was dedicated. Al was with Elvis from 1956 until the untimely death of Elvis in 1977.

2.  This is the only time in history that Loanne Parker (the widow of the late Colonel Tom Parker) has ever agreed to go on camera and discuss the intimate details of her experiences with Elvis, The Colonel and the TCB Gang.

3.  This documentary was filmed with the permission of the Las Vegas Hilton in Elvis' suite he occupied for many years, while performing there. This is the only filming about Elvis ever allowed in his old suite.

4.  This documentary was completely "unscripted" and "uncensored". It is the filming of the heart felt expressions of seven of the closest people in the life of Elvis Presley.

5.  This documentary was produced and directed by multi EMMY AWARD winner - Dennis Rosenblatt, protégé' to Steve Bender (The Director of Elvis' Come-Back Special in 1968).

6.  Each DVD copy contains a special booklet, written and signed by Loanne Parker.

This documentary is a "must have and must see" memento for every true fan of the King of Rock-n-Roll, ELVIS PRESLEY.

THERE ARE ONLY 900 COPIES!

This documentary can never be done again or duplicated by anyone.

Retail Price = $19.95 + $2.95 S&H = $22.90 per unit

Pepsi Bottles with Elvis

Pepsi in Turkey has a campaign called "Music Collection" and you can get the melody to your mobile phone if you send a SMS message to a given number. Pepsi also released some bottles with the images of some singing stars on them for every decade. For the 50s they have chosen Elvis and the song "Love Me Tender". Unfortunately, they have mixed up the decades and printed an Elvis image from 70s on the bottles. Still it can be an interesting souvenir for Elvis Fans.

Elvis People play now performing in Roanoke.

The second and final offering of this year's Norfolk Southern Festival of New Works at Mill Mountain Theatre is "Elvis People," a play by
Charlottesville's Doug Grissom about people whose lives were touched by the King.

Grissom said he got the idea while reading a biography of Elvis. Among the mostly fictional characters are a blues musician, a Vietnam veteran, a college professor and members of Elvis' entourage, known as the Memphis Mafia.

"It's almost a collection of short scenes and monologues," explained Grissom, who teaches drama at the University of Virginia. "It was fun to research and fun to write."

What: "Elvis People," a play by Doug Grissom

When: Today through Feb. 12

Where: Mill Mountain Theatre's Waldron Stage, Center on Church

Elvis Special #1: Show up dressed as Elvis at 7:30 p.m Wednesday, and get in free.
