Elvis Presley In Concert (a.k.a.
Elvis-The Concert) Goes To Australia And New Zealand in October 2006.

Elvis Presley In Concert, formerly known as Elvis-The Concert, will tour in
Australia and New Zealand in October 2006. The name change is for marketing
purposes - to distinguish it better from impersonator shows and to clarify that
it stars (via video) the real Elvis Presley. It was decided that using both
Elvis's first and last names would give the show a stronger identity. The new
name often will be accompanied by the tag line The New Concert Tour.
The show will have a dynamic song program similar to that of previous tours,
although adjustments in repertoire do occur from tour to tour and production
values of the presentation will get a real boost, including the use of Elvis
footage camera loads not used on previous tours. Also, for the first time, the
show will be accompanied by an exhibit of Elvis costumes and other
concert-related items from the Graceland archives. The exhibit will be in the
lobby area of each venue and will not have an admission fee.
Original Elvis bandmates scheduled for this tour are: The TCB Band - James
Burton (lead guitar), Glen D. Hardin (piano), Jerry Scheff (bass), and Ronnie
Tutt (drums); Myrna Smith (vocals) of The Sweet Inspirations, Ed Enoch (vocals)
of The Stamps and Joe Guercio (musical director & conductor). Joining Ms. Smith
on female backing vocals will new cast members. Joining Mr. Enoch on male
backing vocals will be members of his modern-day configuration of The Stamps.
Tickets are expected to go on sale in late June. In advance of the regular
on-sale date, will be an advance sale of "golden circle" seats that offer the
purchaser special considerations, including premium seating, a backstage
reception to meet the cast and more. Details will be posted soon here in News on
Elvis.com and on the official site for the show
www.ElvisConcertTour.com, and we will spread
the word via our free e-newsletters service. Confirmed show dates and venues
will be announced sometime in the weeks ahead.
For this same October 2006 tour, efforts are being made to secure some show
dates in the Far East. If this works out, information will be shared as soon as
it is confirmed. Contrary to rumors on the Internet, there is not a sixth tour
of Europe in the works.
2007 REMINDER: In Memphis on August 16, 2007, EPE once again will present a
major concert production starring Elvis Presley (via video) and a large cast of
the musicians and singers he worked with - something along the lines our big
shows in 1997 and 2002 for twentieth and twenty-fifth anniversaries of his
passing. Our Elvis Week 2007 calendar listing for Elvis: The 30th Anniversary
Concert will be updated as other cast commitments firm up. The ticket on-sale
date for this special concert is yet to be determined.

THIS IS ELVIS ON THE BIG SCREEN?

A mock-up cinema poster by Elvis-Express.com showing what may take place in
cinemas across the globe in 2007.
According to a report by Sid Shaw of Elvisly Yours. The long awaited special
edition of the documentary film 'This is Elvis' will be screened at cinemas in
2007.
Warner Bros are said to be treating this as one of it's major projects in 2007,
which marks the 30th Anniversary of Elvis' death.
Out will go much of the early film footage with the Elvis look-alikes and be
replaced with more emphasis on the real Elvis and even more music.
With all the new technology available today dramatic improvements have been made
to a lot of Elvis film footage.
Shaw writes: "It is now 25 years since "This is Elvis" hit the screens around
the world. It never did well in the cinemas and lost money in many countries
because it did not receive much promotional support at the time. But, in
Australia it made a good profit. I am sure the new "This is Elvis" will be a
great improvement on the original that in itself is a classic in the Elvis
World."
Let's hope that Warner will pull out all the stops and promote this new film to
the fullest and don't just rely on fans spreading the word, like they did with
the cineam release of the special edition of TTWII.

OWN ELVIS' CHEQUEBOOK.

Sonny West is offering some rich fan the chance to own one of Elvis' personal
cheque book and it could be yours for a cool $25,000.00
Our source informs us that a friend of Sonny West, acting as a third party, is
sending out the offer to give a select few, first dibs on the item and if it
fails to sell, Sonny will be placing the cheque book on eBay.
The following is the sales patter from Sonny:
It was used by him personally and when he wanted to write a check for personal
expenses for cash or for some other purchase, this is the checkbook he used. The
entries on the check stubs have the date and the subject of what the check is
being written for, ranging from Airline flights, a Charter Airplane flight, a
payment to register his Dunebuggy, including a penalty fee for being late in
it's registration, etc.
It is really interesting to read the stubs and know that that day he signed a
check for any number of reasons, and where he was on that day of his life.
An interesting fact is this is personal account that he kept a $1,000,000
dollars in so that he knew he could always write a check for that amount and
cash it immediately. That amount was still in there when he passed away.
This is a one of a kind item that can't be duplicated or forged like jewelry,
clothes and other such items. I have had this in my possession since 1972. The
entries on the stubs are from at least 3 of us guys, Joe, Charlie and myself.
There are some others that I am not sure who made them. Possibly Hamburger James
did on a couple of them when he forged Elvis's signature for expense money,
which was one of the reasons he was fired.
I have sent this out to friends for them to forward to serious buyers that they
know of that might be interested. This checkbook would make a great display item
in a museum or store.
I am asking $25,000 (usd) for it now because if I don't sell it to an individual
buyer now I am going to put it in an auction, or possibly on eBay.
The reserve on the item in an auction will be the price I am asking for it now,
but who knows, it could go well beyond that if a couple of serious bidders get
involved. I know there is a collector out there that would love to have this one
of a kind item, I just have to get the info out there to them and it will
sell. Sonny West

A Repository of Rich, Riveting, Resonating Raw
Power What is Elvis Presley's Voice?
By Christopher P. Tyler, MPA
Columist For EpGold.Com.
Much has and can be said about Elvis Presley, but lost in it all seems to be
that which makes him such a dominant force, still in the minds of the American
Conscience and its media today. "Elvis is Everywhere," some say, and in some
respects, it is quite literally true. Nearly three decades after his passing,
unlike any other entertainer, his records still sell in the tens of millions
each year. His home, Graceland - just recently named with the most rare honor
of "National Landmark" - remains the second most visited private home besides
that of the White House. In providing Graceland with this designation, Interior
Secretary, Gale Norton, said this.
"It would be difficult to tell the story of the 20th century without discussing
the many contributions made by this legendary, iconic artist."
Would not even some of his most vehement detractors be hard pressed to
disagree? And his movies, though most not artistically significant, nonetheless
remain a staple of everyday Americana running regularly on TV.
For as great a talent as Sinatra was and Marylin Monroe with her iconic status,
no one looms as large on the American landscape as Elvis Presley. The question
is why? It's been said that Presley was polite to all he meant and very, very
few - setting his personal foibles aside - have said a negative word about him
He was a good son they said; a Patriot who served his country during the Cold
War and even resisted the temptations of fitting in with the racial intolerance
of his times while growing up in a breeding ground of intolerance and racism.
Not so well known, too, beyond the giving away of Cadillacs, is Elvis' devotion
to humanitarian causes. He gave away roughly more than half of his entire
lifetime earnings to the poor, indigent and disenfranchised, both black and
white alike, while also performing innumerable concerts for charity being the
number one force behind the creation of Pearl Harbor's 1941 U.S.S. Arizona
Memorial.
But all of that aside, and not even touching on the Adonis like looks of a young
Presley, I believe he remains among us because of his voice. That indescribable,
incredible voice. Or is it indescribable? That's the question I have sought to
answer and in doing so I've turned to the experts. Paul Simpson, a noted
Musicologist in describing Presley's voice seems to agree when saying "[t]his
gift (his voice) probably most easily explains why he endures so powerfully and
why his performances remain so easy to hear." But what type of voice is it that
Presley actually had?
Henry Pleasants, in his book "The Great American Popular Singers" states:
"Elvis Presley has been described variously as a baritone and a tenor. An
extraordinary compass - the so-called register-, and a very wide range of vocal
color have something to do with this divergence of opinion. The voice covers
nearly three octaves from the baritone low-G to the tenor high B, with an upward
extension in falsetto to at least a D flat. Presley's best octave is in the
middle, D-flat to D-flat. Call him a high baritone. In "It's'now or never",
(1960), he ends it in a full voice cadence (A, G, F), that has nothing to do
with the vocal devices of Rhythm and Blues and Country. That A-note is hit right
on the nose, and it is rendered less astonishing only by the number of tracks
where he lands easy and accurate B-flats. Moreover, he has not been confined to
one type of vocal production. In ballads and country songs he belts out
full-voiced high G's and A's that an opera baritone might envy. He is a
naturally assimilative stylist with a multiplicity of voices - in fact, Elvis'
is an extraordinary voice, or many voices." Does not Henry Pleasants give us
great reason to understand the staying power of Elvis Presley? Rock and Roll,
R&B, Ballads, Country and renditions of songs that took the vocal prowess of an
opera singer.
"The voice is so melodious, and - of course, by accident, this glorious voice
and musical sensibility was combined with this beautiful, sexual man and this
very unconscious - or unselfconscious stage movements. Presley's registration,
the breadth of his tone, listening to some of his records, you'td think you were
listening to an opera singer. But it's an opera singer with a deep
connection to the blues
Jerry Wexler, co-founder of Atlantic Records
So make no mistake, there's good reason Elvis Presley remains the only person
who maintains status in the Rock and Roll, Country and Gospel Hall of Fames. He
seemingly had the most unique voice of the 20th Century.
"I suppose you had to call him a lyric baritone, although with exceptional high
notes and unexpectedly rich low ones. But what is more important about Elvis
Presley is not his vocal range, nor how high, or low it extends, but where its
center of gravity is. By that measure, Elvis was all at once a tenor, a baritone
and a bass, the most unusual voice I've ever heard."
Gregory Sandows, Music Professor at Columbia University
Perhaps the most unusual voice any of us have ever heard and I believe Robert
Christgau puts it best when saying, "It's so easy to forget that Elvis was, or
is, a great singer. Any account of his impact that omits that fundamental fact
amounts to a dismissal."
I, quite frankly, don't think it can be any clearer. But whether you like him
or not, one thing remains.
THE VOICE
A repository of rich, riveting, resonating raw power the world - quite sadly
may never know again.

CHARRO FROM THE OEPFC

The "Official Elvis Presley Fan Club" in the UK have been distributing a flyer
offering "Charro" on DVD.
The advert states: "Starring Elvis Presley in the acclaimed classic western
filmed in 1969 in Sedona, Arizona . . . "See Elvis Presley as the bearded Jess
Wade in his most sensual acting role".
"This DVD was never commercially distributed and we have obtained the only
copies, which we understand were manufactured in Denmark ten years ago".
Charro was first released on the European market in 1998 and has since been
available a few times by different companies.
The DVD can be found around the UK for under £5.00 a time but the picture
quality and sound leaves much to be desired.
The OEPFC are selling "Charro" for £17.00 (p&p in the UK included).
Note:
Warning: This edition has bad sound, picture and color quality.
Warner Bros obtained the rights to Charro planned release date on DVD in 2007.

Elvis And Dolly On The Road Together For
Tennessee Tourism.

Go to this website to view the commercial. Pretty cute!!
www.TNVacation.com.
The ad, titled "Tennessee Road Trip," conceived by Memphis advertising agency
Chandler Ehrlich, signifies the first time Elvis has digitally appeared with
another celebrity for a television commercial. Directed by Jacques Bailhe, the
commercial captures the range of culture and music found in Tennessee and
represented by Dolly and Elvis, two of the state's most renowned entertainers.
According to Dolly Parton, the commercial was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"Riding in a convertible with Elvis? What more could a girl ask for?" she
continued. "I am so proud of my Tennessee heritage, and I am thrilled and
incredibly honored to be promoting our great state alongside the world's most
legendary superstar."
The broadcast commercial features Dolly and Elvis side by side cruising through
Tennessee together. How is it done? By shooting Dolly in High Definition against
what's called a "green screen," and by then removing all the green from the shot
in post production and replacing it with the original background of Elvis in
"Clambake." Dolly was then able to be digitally placed in the car with Elvis.
Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen commented: "The idea behind the commercial is
to bring together two international stars that symbolize Tennessee's
unparalleled musical history. The commercial is a positive, energetic and
unforgettable celebration of Tennessee's past, present and future."
"This represents a very rare time that EPE has allowed an Elvis film to be
digitally altered. But we know that Elvis admired Dolly. And no one loved
Graceland and Tennessee more than Elvis, so we agreed, knowing how proud he
would be to welcome the world to visit," said Jack Soden, CEO of Elvis
Presley Enterprises.
Dolly and Elvis transcend superstardom, having achieved world-wide fame as
entertainment legends and leaders among other outstanding Tennessee legends.
Whether it's rock, country, jazz, gospel, soul or bluegrass, Tennessee offers
rich musical heritage and unparalleled live musical experiences. And the state's
stage is not only set for great music, it's set for outdoor adventure and
beauty, available throughout the state, from the banks of the Mississippi to the
Great Smoky Mountains. For more information on Tennessee, please visit
www.TNVacation.com.
Interesting Facts
Chandler Ehrlich creative staff reviewed 13 Elvis films -- over 20 hours of film
-- to find the 10-second scene needed for the commercial. They also reviewed
hundreds of photos and materials from the archives of Elvis Presley Enterprises.
It took approximately 6 months to make all of the arrangements to produce the
commercial.Dolly's wardrobe in the commercial was designed as a tribute to
Elvis. "Clambake" was filmed in 1967. The car used in the commercial is a
customized 1967 Corvette Stingray convertible. The music for the commercial was
scored to fit the classic '50s style of Elvis. Dolly's scene was filmed in
Knoxville, Tenn.; the original music was written and recorded in Memphis; the
editing and special effects were produced in Nashville. Elvis is known for
living in West Tennessee (Memphis) and recording in Nashville. His "Clambake"
album was recorded at Music Row's Studio B. Dolly is known for performing and
recording in Nashville and living in East Tennessee (Pigeon Forge) near
Dollywood.
In preparation of the commercial every detail in the 10-second scene had to be studied so that Dolly could be inserted into the car with Elvis seamlessly --countless hours studying camera positions/angles/locations, lighting to match exactly with the 1967 lighting, location of Dolly in the car, her reaction to Elvis in the car, creating wind to blow her hair the same as Elvis', creating reflections of the Tennessee landscape on the car hood and development of sound effects to compliment the action in the scene.
Dolly Parton has 25 number one country singles, 55 top ten country hits and

pop charts, along with outstanding success on the R&B singles chart and country
singles and albums charts. His American sales have earned him gold, platinum or
multi-platinum awards for 150 different albums and singles. Globally, he has
sold over one billion records, more than any other artist. He starred in 33
successful films, made history with his television guest appearances and
specials, and triumphed on the concert stage. Elvis received 14 Grammy
nominations -- his three wins for gospel recordings. He received the Grammy
Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36. Elvis has been honored with induction into
the Rock and Roll, Country Music and Gospel Halls of Fame -- the only artist to
date so recognized by all three. Graceland, his home in Memphis, has been
designated a National Historical Landmark.About Tennessee Department of Tourist

Audubon Drive Auction Passes US$400.000 Mark.

With well known psychic, Uri Geller, in the bidding, the online sale of Elvis'
former Audubon Drive home has passed $400,000.00. Uri Geller held the bid at
$351,000 before several other bids came in. Geller, who lives in London, said he
would increase his bid substantially.
"If I was Bill Gates, I would bid as much as I can," Geller said. "But I also
have my limits. Hopefully, though, I will be able to go up and up and up and get
it. I have good faith." If successful, Geller, who met Presley in Las Vegas in
the 1970s and owns a large collection of Elvis memorabilia, said he wants to
turn the 3,000-square-foot (280-sq-metres) home into a museum with a twist.
"It will have all the bizarre things that Elvis Presley believed in," including
his fascination with UFOs, Geller told Reuters. "He was ahead of his time." The
auction closes on 14 May.Source: Various

New Tenant For The Former Elvis Presley's
Memphis Restaurant.
Below is an article in today's Commercial Appeal newspaper in Memphis.
If you are not familiar with the history of EPE's former Elvis Presley's Memphis
restaurant and its closing in 2003, please see our FAQ
http://www.elvis.com/elvisology/faq/faq.asp?qid=26 item about it.
The main questions we anticipate from Elvis fans with the announcement of the
new tenant, restaurateur Jimmy Ishii, is whether EPE will have any direct
involvement with the restaurant and whether Elvis Birthday and Elvis Week events
will take place at this location as before.
Yes. While EPE will have no role in managing the the restaurant, we will have a
close, mutually supportive cross-promotional relationship and will assist Jimmy
Ishii and his staff in any way we can.
He definitely plans to participate in the Elvis Birthday Celebration and Elvis
Week each year and the red carpet will be rolled out to Elvis fans just as it
always was when the location was EPE's restaurant.Another main inquiry we expect
is regarding the opening date. The answer is that we will let you know the
opening date as soon as Jimmy Ishii has determined that and lets us know.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Former Elvis club on Ishii's menu.Chef strikes Beale deal to open Southern
eatery.By Michael Lollar
Jimmy Ishii, one of the first chefs to serve sushi in Memphis, is taking a
distinctly Southern turn with a new Downtown venture in the spot once occupied
by Elvis Presley's Memphis Club.
Ishii, who already operates eight Memphis restaurants from Sekisui East to
bluefin and dish, is signing a 12-year lease for the new club, which will keep
its Elvis Presley connection at 126 Beale with the working name "EP -- Delta
Kitchen and Bar."
After 25 years as a restaurateur, Ishii said he wanted a restaurant with a music
theme.
"Memphis is a music city, and Elvis is a symbol of the American dream," he said.
Elvis would be part of his musical tribute to the city, which Ishii said would
be like a "Memphis jam" with music from several genres.
The Southern theme with music and the Elvis tie-in sounds like only a slight
variation on the Elvis Presley's Memphis Club theme. But Ishii spokesman Joe
Hemingway said Ishii's variation will be unlike anything else.
"We're not going to serve Love-Me-Tender chicken. We're not going to try to take
the menu and the place and make it Las Vegas. He wants to take all the things
that are great about Southern cuisine and do new interpretations of them."
The one-time Elvis club had a six-year run on Beale from 1997 to 2003. Elvis
Presley Enterprises attributed the closing to the long tourist drought following
the 2001 terrorist attacks and to the club's heavy dependence on Elvis fans. Its
Elvis theme was not a perfect fit on a street known for the blues.
EPE chief executive officer Jack Soden said Ishii's proposal was one of more
than 20 considered by EPE, which will sublease the building to Ishii.
"We had a lot of interest in the property, but we needed to get it in the hands
of someone who had the wherewithal to do it. It will go forward with the benefit
of Jimmy's reputation."
Ishii, who has nine more restaurants in the Southeast from Florida to Missouri,
was the Memphis Restaurant Association's 1998 chef of the year and the Memphis
Business Journal's 2000 entrepreneur of the year.
Soden said Ishii will open the club under far better conditions than when EPE
closed it.
"We opened in 1997, and in 1998 Planet Hollywood and the rest of the themed
restaurant business genre began to crash. Think how much has changed since. Now
there's FedExForum. Thousands of new residents have moved into Downtown Memphis,
and thousands more are on the way. It's a whole new day. This year the Vesta
Home Show is Downtown."
Hamilton said "paperwork alone" on restaurant permits, building inspections and
lease closings will take months, putting the opening of the club after the
August Elvis tribute week with its huge influx of tourists.
Ishii says a good Downtown restaurant is not dependent on tourism alone.
"Downtown has some good days, some bad. Sometimes it depends on events. It's
hard to predict."
The interior of the club will remain the same structurally, but Ishii said it
will be redesigned extensively. The building is one of the few Downtown
restaurants with its own parking lot.

Rolf Harris's portrait of the Queen attracted critics, and now his portrait of
the King has attracted cash.
His 2002 work, Blue Elvis, a portrait of Elvis Presley, sold at auction in

Harris had given the work to his friend Shining Bear, who regularly plays the

Festival organisers "all shook up" by ETA
registration talk.
The organisers of the Parkes Elvis Festival in the central west of NSW are
seeking legal advice about changes to the rules surrounding Elvis Presley
impersonators. An American billionaire who owns the rights to the Elvis name and
likeness is working to stop "unauthorised" impersonators as part of a plan to
open a show and exhibit in Las Vegas dedicated to 'the king'.
More than 5,000 people travel to Parkes each year to see hundreds of Elvis
look-a-likes and celebrate his music. The festival's Monique Kronk says very few
details about the shake-up are known but organisers want to ensure it will not
threaten the event.
"We've got to discuss not just how it affects the festival itself but ... who
are coming in and we don't know quite yet enough about what they are planning to
change," she said. "But obviously we'll have to speak to Elvis Presley
Enterprises and maybe we can negotiate some sort of licence that will cover for
the whole festival - festival goers coming - we don't know enough yet about the
situation."

Elvis has left the building. Now 30,000
impersonators may have to go as well.
FOR nearly 30 years since the death of Elvis Presley, his impersonators have
suffered for their art. They struggle to achieve the perfect quiff. They sweat
profusely in white sequined jump suits. Some, whose bellies are bigger than
their sideburns, have been floored by gyration-induced hernias.
Now, however, America's estimated 30,000 Elvis impressionists are really shook
up. They fear that they are about to be put out of business. In a move that has
made the ranks of the lookalikes queasier than the thought of a deep-fried
peanut butter and banana sandwich - the King's favourite snack in the bloated
autumn of his life - a New York businessman has bought the rights to Elvis's
name and likeness and has threatened to ban "unauthorised" Elvis clones.
Robert Sillerman, a billionaire media entrepreneur who owns American Idol - the
hugely successful equivalent of Pop Idol in Britain - paid $114 million (£65
million) last year for an 85 per cent stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, which
is run by the Presley family. He got control of Graceland, the King's home in
Memphis, Tennessee, and control of his name and likeness, but not his music.
The Presley family, through Elvis Presley Enterprises, has allowed most
impersonators free use of the singer's name and likeness, believing that it was
good marketing and a way to ensure that the King would never die. In an
interview with The New York Times, however, Mr Sillerman outlined plans that
have left many Elvis impersonators weak at the knees.
CKX, Mr Sillerman's company, intends to open an interactive Elvis exhibit and
huge Elvis-themed cabaret show on the Las Vegas Strip, which he hopes will
attract millions of visitors a year. In Memphis he plans to demolish the
128-room Heartbreak Hotel, which stands opposite Graceland on Elvis Presley
Boulevard, and build two 400-room hotels, convention space, restaurants, shops
and an amphitheatre.
Of Elvis impersonators, he said ominously: "If we were going to do a show that
was based on Elvis impersonators, then obviously it wouldn't make sense to have
unauthorised Elvis impersonators." Mr Sillerman has since refused to answer
questions about what he plans to do with the Elvis impersonator industry, which
many believe has become so risible that it has made Presley more of a laughing
stock than an iconic image ready to be mined financially.
CKX is powerless to take action against impersonators in Europe, including
Britain, where the Elvis image is in the public domain. Mr Sillerman says that
he does not believe that Elvis Presley Enterprises has used Presley nearly to
his full potential in the US. Impersonators in America believe that it is
inevitable that their industry - which includes dwarf Elvises, Chinese Elvises
and African-American Elvises - is in for a cull.
Mr Sillerman has bought Elvis-A-Rama, a museum and impersonator theatre just off
the Las Vegas Strip and is shutting it down in October. Justin Curtis, 22, an
impersonator who had finished a show at Elvis-A-Rama before an audience of 30,
said that he was willing to pay royalties to Mr Sillerman.
But Ted Davis, a trademark lawyer, said that Mr Sillerman had legal precedent on
his side. If the owner of someone's image were successful in stopping
impersonators in one state, there was precedent whereby state courts had imposed
a nationwide injunction on unauthorised impersonators.
Matt Lewis, another Elvis impersonator, said that his agents had been studying
the legal ramifications of his status since Mr Sillerman acquired the rights.
Some impersonators make $300,000 a year, and Mr Lewis acknowledged that he made
"six figures" per annum.
"If they tried to stop me I'd figure out a way to keep going," he said. "We
would band together. I have this image of old ladies going to underground shows
and giving passwords at the door. There would be underground Elvis speakeasies.
Honestly."

Hollywood comeback of film star who
became nun.

THE last time Dolores Hart was in Hollywood she was a starlet flirting on screen
with Elvis Presley. Now, after 43 years cloistered in a convent, she is making
her Hollywood comeback - as a nun.
The 67-year-old former actress, who co-starred with Elvis in Loving You (1957)
and King Creole (1958), has returned to Tinseltown to enlist old friends in the
fight against peripheral idiopathic neuropathy, a neurological disorder that
afflicts 20 million Americans, including herself.
Sister Hart - the only nun to vote for the Oscars as a member of the Academy of
Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - stunned her fans by abandoning her thriving
film career at the age of 24 and joining a convent.
Though the daughter of an actor, she was brought up by her grandfather, a cinema
projectionist in Chicago, and studied acting technique over his shoulder on the
silver screen.
Spotted by a talent scout in a school production of George Bernard Shaw's Saint
Joan, she got a screen test, a contract and a role as Elvis's love interest in
Loving You. "I had no idea who Elvis Presley was," she says.
"He couldn't have been more gracious. He jumped to his feet and said, 'Good
afternoon, Miss Dolores'. He and Gary Cooper were the only ones in Hollywood who
called me that."
Hart made two more films before playing opposite Elvis again in King Creole. In
1960 she starred in Where the Boys Are, a teen comedy that won a cult-like
following.
She appeared in 11 films in all, including Wild is the Wind (1957), with Anna
Magnani and Anthony Quinn, and Lonelyhearts (1958), with Montgomery Clift and
Myrna Loy.
But while making The Plunderers in 1959 she looked in the mirror and heard a
voice saying: "You're really enjoying this, but you're not going to do this much
longer."
On the advice of a friend she visited the Roman Catholic Abbey of Regina Laudis
in Connecticut. She found peace there, and continued to return twice a year.
Back in Hollywood she became engaged to Don Robinson, a Los Angeles businessman,
but eventually they broke off the engagement and in December 1962 she moved into
the convent.
Hart, now the prioress of the cloistered community, has suffered from peripheral
idiopathic neuropathy ever since she went to the dentist in 1997 and had "a root
canal from hell".
The painful and potentially crippling disease, caused by damaged nerves, put her
in a wheelchair for a time.
"I couldn't eat," she recalls. "When I put my feet on the floor, I couldn't
stand. My feet felt like they were on fire. I couldn't talk. I thought, 'This is
ridiculous'. I couldn't understand what in the world was going on. A doctor said
this would improve, but it kept getting worse."
Soul singer Al Green quit a career that included the No 1 single Let's Stay
Together after injuring himself when he fell off the stage. He was ordained and
now preaches and sings gospel music in Memphis, Tennessee
Rick Astley had five No 1 singles in two years, including Never Gonna Give You
Up in 1987. But, fed up with fame, he quit just before a planned tour of the US
Roy Simmons was a star linesman for the Washington Redskins American football
team when he quit football abruptly in 1984. He came out as homosexual almost a
decade later, and admitted that the pressure of keeping his sexuality under
wraps had forced him to leave his career
Hayden Christensen, the 24 year-old Star Wars actor, is rumoured to be quitting
to become an architect because he no longer finds Hollywood interesting
In 2004 Dr Karl Gensberg, a researcher at the University of Birmingham, quit for
a better-paid job as a gas fitter.

Oscar winning actress Rachel Weisz loves
Elvis!

Rachel Weisz who won the 2006 Best Supporting Actress award for her part in 'The
Constant Gardener' makes no secret about her love of Elvis. Her heroes include
Harry Houdini and Jackie Onassis but her greatest admiration is for Elvis. "I
fell in love with him when I was a little girl. He was cute even when he was fat
and wasted," she says. "He was the ultimate performer, in that nothing could get
between him and his gift."
Weisz's attitude to life also reflects Elvis' own generosity. Talking about the
film adaptation of John Le Carre's novel 'The Constant Gardener' she says, "The
message of the film is that if you can help one person, that's better than not
doing anything." Weisz urges people to visit the movie's website
ConstantGardenerTrust.org and help by donating money to improve living
conditions in Kenya's slums. The charity has already built two schools and a
bridge.
Weisz also admits to Elvis being her 'touchstone' whenever she's in stressful
situations. She says, "I hang out with friends and if all else fails I'll just
sit in my apartment and talk to Elvis. He'll take care of me." She explains, "I
don't get starstruck that often but give me a rock 'n' roll legend and I lose
it. I think if David Bowie and I were in the same room, my knees would give out.
And Elvis is my God. My house is covered with pictures of Elvis." Her all-time
favourite Elvis track is 'Suspicious Minds'.Rachel, together with director-fiancee
Darren Aronofsky, is expecting her first child in May

Final Hayride Performance From 56 On FTD?
Hi Ernst,
Rumours are now that the final Hayride performance from 56 will be released on
FTD???
You told me the last time by our phone conversation.. it was NOT decided yet if
it will be an FTD release it might be issued on a Sony/ BMG.
Any decision made on this, Ernst?
Andylon, It's not decided how and when it will be released; on a Sony/ BMG -
FTD release or on the Sun project.
Thanks Ernst and a Happy Eastern Holidays.
Note;
More details by Andylon Lensen & Ernst Jorgensen on the Final Hayride
Performance from 56;on Hot E News was published date April 11th:
Ernst Jorgensen Has Elvis' Final Hayride
Performance!!!

Photo: Joe kent
On various Elvis - sites, messageboards, there are rumours if the FTD has the
final Hayride Performance with a question mark?
We asked Andylon Lensen if she had some information on this issue and confirmed
the following;
Yes, indeed Ernst mentioned this to me 2 months ago; he did acquired an
complete audio recording of Elvis' last performance on the Louisiana Hayride
from December 15, 1956 in a reasonable sound quality. He also told me this
complete show is round about 20-25 minutes in a total.
Ernst also confirmed this show was first planned for the release of the Cd
Presley by the Presley's, but because of problems getting the deal done with Joe
Kent on some publishing or copyrights if I remember well, the deal were
finalized later on and now will be released on a new project.
Only a few songs were released years ago on a vinyl bootleg in a bad, bad sound.
Elvis' last performance on the Louisiana Hayride from December 15, 1956:
Heartbreak Hotel / Long Tall Sally / I Was The One / Love Me Tender / Don't Be
Cruel / Love Me / I Got A Woman / When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again /
Paralyzed / Hound Dog.

Bubba Ho-Tep Prequel Back On Track.

Don Coscarelli, director of the great little genre hybrid Bubba Ho-tep, has
revealed that the oft-discussed sequel to that elderly-Elvis-vs.-a-mummy
picture may be back on track. Bubba Nosferatu, a prequel to Bubba Ho-tep, seemed
to be dead in the water after a series of setbacks, but now things are looking
up for the Elvis/vampire tale.
"I'm putting a big effort into doing Bubba Nosferatu now," Coscarelli tells Sci
Fi Wire. "The project has a life of its own. ... People seem to want it. We just
have to get it finished. The whole idea of Bubba Nosferatu was a joke."
What the filmmaker means by that is that the idea of the sequel started with a
throwaway end credit in Bubba Ho-tep that promised a follow-up film called Bubba
Nosferatu: The Curse of the She-Vampire.
But the fanboys have made that film a reality now, it seems. Coscarelli is
working on the script for the film with Joe R. Lansdale, who penned the original
short story. The film will portray a younger, thirtysomething Elvis, and the
director says that the original film's star Bruce Campbell "can't wait to
put his Elvis jumpsuit back on again." And beyond that? Coscarelli hints that a
third film isn't out of the question, and he even goes so far as to give it a
name: Bubba Sasquatch.

Elvis PresleyT Enterprises announced today that the company has granted rights
for an Elvis® branded debit card program to EDP Licensing, Inc.T
Elvis is the most successful celebrity ever to be branded. The Elvis Presley
Prepaid Visa® card is among the first celebrity-branded debit card programs to

According to Mr. Cleveland, the first card will launch this month. He announced,
"EDP will offer a series of collectible Elvis cards, each displaying a different
image. We hope Elvis fans will be excited and want to collect them all."
Prepaid debit cards are fast becoming the card of choice among American
consumers. Last year, more purchases and bills were paid with debit cards than
with checks. For the past two years, debit cards have outgrown their big brother
- the credit card. Much like a checking account without the paperwork, prepaid
cards offer customers the convenience of a credit card and the "no-interest
charge" advantage of a checking account.

Helen Cohn Who Helped Clothe Elvis Dies.

Helen Cohn, whoalong with her husband helped clothe Elvis Presley, Roy Rogers and
a host of stars in rhinestone creations during the height of cowboy chic, has
died. She was 92. Helen Cohn died Friday at a hospital near her home in
Valencia, her granddaughter, Jamie Nudie Mendoza, said Wednesday. From the 1940s
through the 1960s, the now-closed Nudie's in North Hollywood was where singing
cowboys, country singers such as Hank Williams and other celebrities went for
their sparkly duds.
A gold lame suit for Presley and an outfit embroidered with pills and marijuana
leaves for singer Gram Parsons weren't even the gaudiest of Cohn's creations.
Cohn and her husband, Nudie Cohn, were an inseparable business team until his
death in 1984. She ran the business for another decade before retiring. She
helped her husband sew outfits on a garage pingpong table in the early days and
went on to handle the business end of Nudie's for 50 years, her granddaughter
said.
"She was the backbone to my grandfather,'' she said. "She ran the store.''
She also was the inspiration for the Nudie's logo, her granddaughter said: a
naked cowgirl leaning against a fence, twirling a lasso whose coils spelled out
the company name. According to family legend, the logo dates to one evening in
the 1940s when she appeared before her husband wearing only a cowboy hat, boots
and a holster. The cowgirl on the logo got clothes in the early 1960s, when
Nudie Cohn converted to Christianity from Judaism.
Helen Barbara Kruger met her future husband, a Ukrainian immigrant, at her
mother's boarding house in Mankato, Minnesota. They married and moved to New
York City, where they opened Nudie's for the Ladies, selling G-strings and other
outfits to showgirls and burlesque dancers in the 1930s. They later returned to
Minnesota and ran a tailoring and dry-cleaning shop. In the 1940s, after
hitchhiking across the country several times, they settled in North Hollywood
and began creating what would become the famous Nudie's suits.

Synopsis:
The day that Elvis appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show will forever go down in
history. That one appearance ignited an ongoing, never-before-seen pop culture
explosion revolving around issues of sexuality, race, class and regionality. The
world was changing. That much was clear. After weathering the Depression and the
war, the parental generation was concerned with stability, safety and security.
The teenagers and young adults of that era saw things differently. The world was
getting better. But what good was it if you couldn't enjoy it? Elvis stirred up
a kind of mania in the parents who hated rock and roll, and the kids who loved
it.
THE HISTORY CHANNEL takes an intimate look at the cultural and social evolution
of America in the 1950s, and the huge part that music played in that evolution.
Elvis stepping on stage that one night was just a moment in time - but it was
the spark that fueled a new generation.

MORE ON AUDUBON SALE.

1034 Audubon Drive in Memphis, the former home of Elvis Presley, goes on sale
Friday via eBay.
This was the first home ever owned by the Presleys, who lived there about one
year before buying Graceland.
The home has been appraised at less than £115,000 ($200,000). But due to the
historical importance of it's Elvis connection the home is expected to exceed
£200,000 ($350,000) by the time the auction ends.
The sale of the Audubon home which has been lovingly re-created to when Elvis
and his parents lived there by Mike Freeman is a result of the pending divorce
between Mike and Cindy Hazen.
All we can hope for is that who ever buys the home will continue the excellent
work of Mike Freeman and carry on the tradition of making the home available for
fans to visit when in Memphis.

Iconic Musicians Gather For Hall Of Fame Press
Conference.
A collection of men who shaped the history of country, rock, pop and R&B music
smiled for photos and told stories this afternoon at a press conference
announcing the June opening of the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum in Nashville.
There was rock 'n' roll's first instrumental star, Duane Eddy, talking with
James Burton, the guitar master who came up with the Suzie Q lick for Dale
Hawkins and who was a part of Elvis Presley's band.
Also there were Scotty Moore, whose guitar work with Elvis Presley provided a
foundation for what is now known as rock 'n' roll. They joined Motown bass man
Bob Babbitt, along with Nashville bass legend Bob Moore, Music City piano player
Pig Robbins, Muscle Shoals guitar hero Reggie Young and a roomful of others.
To musicians, those names are iconic. The Musicians Hall of Fame, spearheaded by
musician and guitar store owner Joe Chambers, seeks to ensure that those who
created the soundscape for popular music are held in the same esteem as artists
who sang the songs. The new Hall is located in a converted warehouse at 301 6th
Ave. S., and the 30,000-square-foot building will house memorabilia, a recording
studio, a non-profit school of music and, in 2006, a 350-seat performance hall.
Chambers expects to induct a large class of Hall of Famers this summer, and he
said additional members of the Hall will be voted on by musicians. Players from
all forms of popular music will be honored.
"Now you can really call this Music City," said Babbitt, while Eddy - himself a
member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - said a musicians' Hall of Fame was
long overdue.
Fellow Rock Hall member Burton looked around the room and said, "It'll be good
for the artists, for all of the musicians and for the world."

Fun-Filled Night.

The picture shows Jack Clement and the legendary bass player Bob Moore.
It was a fun-filled night at the movies. Especially the first part, when "Cowboy
Jack's Home Movies (Shakespeare Was a Big George Jones Fan)"showed as the first
flick in a double feature at the Gem Theatre in Heber Springs.
Sunday night at the Gem, anyone who loves music and has any sense of the history
of country and rock 'n' roll music was thrilled to see archival clips from
Cowboy Jack Clement's home videos. Since his recording studio was in his home
and scores (or it seemed like it) of famous or to-become-famous performers
recorded there, this movie is a treasure bin of musical history.
We're talking people like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Charley
Pride, Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner, Roy Orbison, Chet Atkins, Kris
Kristofferson, U2, Louis Armstrong, Paul McCartney, Townes Van Zandt, Eddy
Arnold, George Jones, Charlie Rich, Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, Bono, John
Prine and other famous personalities.
"This is an amazing film," Bob Pest, who organizes the Ozark Foothills FilmFest
with his wife Judy, said before the documentary opened. "Jack Clement made home
movies of everyone he worked with. This is the kind of film you'll see only at a
filmfest."
"Cowboy Jack's Home Movies" won two first place awards - the audience award for
best documentary and the director's award - when it was introduced at the 2005
Nashville (Tenn.) Film Festival.
It's no wonder. Clement is not only a songwriter of powerful impact, but also
was often at the controls of Sam Phillips' legendary Sun Studio in the early and
mid-1950s when the small studio jolted the world with the music of Elvis
Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and a number of other
performers who earned Sun the "cradle of rock 'n' roll" label and Memphis "the
birthplace of rock 'n' roll" slogan.
In other words, Clement's status as a legendary musical genius was secure if he
had left the business in 1957. But he didn't stop there - for several additional
decades, Clement has been writing songs and producing albums and CDs for a wide
variety of performers.
Clement's love of creation and being an off the wall personality is evident in
the prize-winning documentary. Clement says he long ago recognized that a
recording studio was the worst place in the world to make a record. Thus, he put
studio equipment in his home, where performers could be relaxed before cutting a
musical track.
Someone in the film said of Clement, "When a parade is going on in a straight
line, he just can't stand it. He has to do something" to get it out of line.
Another said, "Cowboy Jack has tried to live every song he's ever written."
Clement said artists and directors can sometimes get away with faking something.
"There's a difference between fake and phony," he said. "Don't be phony. Fake,
that's show business."
Clement highly approved of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings creation of country
music's "outlaw' movement several years ago. "Country music was trying to get
too vanilla," he said. "It was time for something crazy, something with pizzazz.
"I didn't change a bit," he said. "I was already an outlaw, and hope I still
am."
A part of the film contained scenes from Newport, just down the road in Jackson
County, where Cement spent parts of each summer with his grandparents. Those
scenes were probably videotaped the same day a professional film crew taped
Clement, Sonny Burgess, Billy Lee Riley, Jimmy Van Eaton, Ace Cannon and others
from the Sun era that evening at Bob King's King of Clubs at Swifton. Clement
said he had visited the empty house that day.
A DVD that includes those performances shows me in the audience, smiling and
clapping.
That night, Clement talked about the house in Newport where he spent those
summer days and, on sweltering evenings, listened to crickets chirp and to
little girls down the street singing "You Are My Sunshine." Those memories wound
up in the Clement-penned "Air Conditioner Song," which Bobby Bare sings on
Bare's 1967 "A Bird Named Yesterday" album. (I believe that album was reissued
in 1992.)
"I've written several songs that probably got their conception here in Newport,"
Clement says in the documentary, including "I've Got a Thing About Trains" (also
on the 'Bird Named Yesterday" album).
Clement said when he was a kid, he hated the 100-mile train ride to Newport from
his home south of Memphis, but grew to appreciate trains and what they did for
the country.
Some of Clement's most enduring songs were recorded by Cash, including
"Ballad of a Teenage Queen," "Guess Things Happen That Way," 'The One on the
Right is the One on the Left" and "Dirty Ole Egg-sucking Dog."
Other notable Clement songs include "Miller's Cave," 'Girl I Used To Know,"
'Everybody Loves a Nut" and others.
"We're in a fun business," Clement said. "If we're not having fun, we're not
doing our jobs."
Watching this documentary is FUN.
And how many performers can claim Elvis opened for them? According to
cowboyjackclement.com, very early in Elvis Presley's career, Elvis opened once
for Clement at the Memphis club The Eagle's Nest.

Ernst Jorgensen Has Elvis' Final Hayride
Performance!!!
On various Elvis - sites, messageboards, there are rumours if the FTD has the
final Hayride Performance with a question mark?
We asked Andylon Lensen if she had some information on this issue and confirmed
the following;

Photo: Joe kent.

Sillerman wilder than a G.O.A.T.
Company Acquires 80% Interest in Name, Image, Likeness, Trademarks and Existing

Interview with Bruce Sinofsky about Elvis
Presley.

"When America Was Rocked," by Emmy-winning filmmaker Bruce Sinofsky, will air
tonight, Tuesday, April 11 at 9/8c on The History Channel and features the day
Elvis appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and changed the face of entertainment
forever.
In looking forward to tonight's episode, we asked Bruce Sinofsky a few questions
we thought Elvis fans would find interesting.
Q. Are you a fan of Elvis?
A. I have always been a fan of Elvis....... even before my love affair with the
Beatles.
Q. What do you think the impact of Elvis's performance was?
A. The impact of Elvis' performance in many ways legitimized Rock and Roll with
main stream America. Ed Sullivan gave him a stamp of approval which went a long
way in taking away any negative stigma his music had at that point.
Q. What do you think Elvis would be doing if he were alive today?
A. If Elvis was still around today I would hope he would be rockin' our brains
out. Once that music is in your blood it never leaves you. He might also sing a
little gospel on Sundays.
Q. What impressions about Elvis did you have that changed as a result of doing
the episode?
A. I didn't realize how much Elvis and America changed together at the same
time. Elvis mirrored the growth America was going through and vice versa.
Q. Why is Elvis still so relevant in culture so many years after histelevision
debut?
A. His relevance will never die - rebels always stay fresh. He made it possible
for America's youth to take off the post war shackles.
10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America is an expansive, 10-part television
event produced and directed by Oscar and Emmy award winning filmmakers.
And you can be certain no look at days that unexpectedly changed America would
be complete without an episode featuring Elvis.
The History Channel world premiere 10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America
debuted on April 9th and will continue until April 13th at 9pm/8c.
10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America is an exciting and thought-provoking
series of films that renews a sense of understanding of and appreciation for the
history of our great nation.
In support of these special presentations, The History Channel introduces the 10
Ways to See America Sweepstakes that includes some incredible Elvis-themed
prizes. 10 winners plus a guest will have the opportunity to take a

First Publicity For Dean.
The Dutch press seems to have found out about the visit of Dean Nichopoulos. The
news paper clipping ) is from a local paper, called "De Ahrenberger".

The interview with Dean on Friday evening promises to be a unique and very
interesting experience. Not only was he Elvis Presley's bodyguard, he stayed
with the King until the very last day, even though the other Maffia members had
turned their backs.
Further more, but not too many people know that, is Dean's name on the Eternal
Flame at Graceland, at the Meditation Garden. Vernon Presley and Joe Esposito
decided that Dean, as one of Elvis's last good friends, deserved a spot on that
'eternal monument'.
The evening with Dean on Friday April 14th takes place in Veldhoven (Partycenter
Merlijn) and starts at 8 pm. On Saturday April 15th, in between 2 and 4 pm, Dean
is a guest at the ElvisMatters Shop in Turnhout.

Elvis Could Handle The Pressure' Says Priscilla.

Priscilla Presley believes the pressures of fame are part of being talented and
'The King' was only too aware of them.
She said: "The pressures are always there, you don't start out being a victim of
fame, you start out with your talent and your passion. You don't really think
about the consequences or being catapulted to such a high level."
She added she is honoured that the home she shared with 'Elvis is to be made a
national monument. Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, a site of pilgrimage for
thousands of Elvis Presley fans the world over, is to receive the prestigious
accolade this year.
She said: It's quite an honour, it is the highest honour the national parks in
our country gives to a home. It is an honour for Elvis as well as this is his
beloved Graceland."
Priscilla was in London to launch her range of bed linen available at Harrods,
which she also believes The King would have approved of. She said: "Well he was
a perfectionist so he would definitely have liked what we have done."

Gene Pitney Wasn't A Big Elvis Fan.
In a 1993 interview for Goldmine magazine, Gene Pitney, who sadly died this
week, said:
"I give Jimmy Webb all the credit for what he's done and all the success he's
had, but it's just like - I remember the day that I was out cutting the grass
and someone said Australia was on the telephone. I came in, I huffed and puffed
up to the phone, and it was a guy that I knew very well, calling from Melbourne,
Australia, and he said, "What did you think of Elvis?"
I thought, what a strange thing for a man to ask, calling me from Australia in
the middle of the afternoon. And I said, "Y'know, I was never really that
impressed. I was not a great Elvis fan."
Then all of a sudden he stopped me and he said, "Do you know what's happened?"
And I said, "Well, I've been out cutting the grass for about three hours. No, to
be honest with you." He said, "Elvis has died."
[Both] Jimmy Webb's songs, and Elvis as a performer never had the depth of the
people that I liked. I like a lot of people who were obscure. [Original Drifters
singer] Clyde McPhatter was one of my favorites, just a unique individual, in
his own pattern, not following after anyone else".

Singer-songwriter, Mac Davis, honored.
The writer of 'A Little Less Conversation' and 'In The Ghetto' will be inducted
into the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the 36th annual induction and awards dinner
this June in New York City.
One of the popular pop singers of the '70s and country singers of the '80s, Mac
Davis has also been a wildly successful songwriter, beginning with successful
recordings by Glen Campbell, Bobby Goldsboro, Lou Rawls, Kenny Rogers and the
First Edition in the mid-'60s.
In 1968, Elvis Presley recorded Davis' propulsive, sly "A Little Less
Conversation," now the theme song for the television hit Las Vegas. After
notching a minor hit with Davis's "Memories," Presley solidified his comeback
with the songwriter's topical classic "In the Ghetto" in 1969.
In 1972, Davis scored a Number One hit of his own with "Baby, Don't Get Hooked
on Me," which also hit the country charts.
His crossover success continued throughout the decade, with singles like "Stop
and Smell the Roses," "Burnin' Thing," and "Forever Lovers."
Davis's success continued in the early-'80s: "It's Hard to Be Humble," the title
track of his 1980 album, was the first of four consecutive Top Ten country hits
that culminated with his biggest country single, "Hooked on Music."

Priscilla Unsure Of Dallas Remake.

Photo: "This is a whole new generation and I don't know if they will appreciate
it as much as our generation" - Priscilla Presley on the remake of Dallas.
Dallas star Priscilla Presley has revealed she is not keen on the idea of
bringing the TV soap opera to the big screen.
The former wife of Elvis said it would be hard to beat the original 1980's
series and that she is very reluctant to get involved.
It is believed numerous Hollywood A listers are battling it out to win a part in
the big money remake of Dallas, with stars such as John Travolta, Jennifer Lopez
and Lindsay Lohan all being linked to the flick.
Priscilla said she would study the script long and hard before committing to
anything but admitted she was pretty certain she would not sign up.
She said: "I'm very reluctant about it because I don't know how it can get
better than what we had.
"This is a whole new generation and I don't know if they will appreciate it as
much as our generation." Priscilla, who is currently in London promoting her new
luxury range of bed linen, also commented on her marriage to the King of rock
'n' roll.
She revealed: "Elvis was who he was - he was an icon even at that time, when he
was alive, and he's a legend today. "We cared very much about each other, even
after we divorced."

Elvis Lectures In Texas.
Steve Davis will discuss "Elvis in East Texas" during the fifth of six lectures
in the Texas Music Culture lecture series at Texas A&M University at Galveston.
Elvis Presley started his music career playing at venues in East Texas from the
Reo Palm Isle in Longview to Driller Park in Kilgore.
Davis said one of the most serendipitous moments in rock 'n' roll took place in
July 1954 when the 19-year-old Presley was working full-time as a truck driver
for Crown Electric and got his break into music with his rendition of "That's
All Right Mama."
Davis is the social science chair in the history department of Kingwood College.
He lectures widely about how Presley developed his approach to music while
playing at clubs and saloons throughout East Texas.
This program is sponsored by Texas A&M University at Galveston and made possible
in part by grants from the Summerlee Foundation, the Galveston Historical
Foundation and the Friends of the Rosenberg Library.

"Elvis Cinema & Popular Culture"
Elvis Cinema & Popular Culture Delayed The release of the upcoming Elvis book
"Elvis Cinema & Popular Culture" by Douglas Brode, has been delayed three months
until 30 June 2006.

Synopsis:
Though Elvis Presley's music is widely credited as starting a sea change in
American popular culture, his films are often dismissed as base marketing
vehicles, commercially successful but insignificant. Beyond the formulaic
plotlines and increasing reliance on weak songs, however, the films-and
Elvis-serve as profound cultural touchstones, revealing changing American
aesthetics more than a changing Elvis. Elvis's rebel image in 1956, as a
guitar-swinging incarnation of Brando or Dean, had by 1969's Change of Habit
become safe and sterile.
The book "Elvis Cinema And Popular Culture" demonstrates how Elvis, through his
films, reflected a shifting social, cultural and political landscape in
America. Encompassing all 31 movies and two 1970s documentaries, it provides a
film-by-film study of Elvis Presley and America, and argues that each film
reflects the society for which it was made. Throughout his career, most of
Elvis's characters combined rebellion with wholesome, traditional ideals, but
the public's perspective changed, and what was considered radical in 1954 was
called reactionary by 1970. Studied sequentially, his films reflect those
cyclical ideals, and unconsciously portray America's process of renewal and
redefinition of self.

Elvis Would Have Loved The Tourists Says
Priscilla.
Ex-wife Priscilla has endorsed the designation of the singer's former home,
Graceland, as a US National Historic Landmark, because he would have loved the
attention.
The rock 'n' roll legend's Memphis, Tennessee mansion was awarded the status
last week (27MAR06), joining a select list of American sites including the White
House, Pearl Harbor and the Alamo.
And Priscilla insists the late star would be thrilled by the honour.
She says, "It's very strange to have Graceland declared a National Historic
Landmark, because it was our home first and foremost.
"I had no idea when I opened the house to the public in 1982 that it would
receive so many visitors. Elvis would be very pleased about it."

Run on.
Front Row Productions SIAE 5003 ( Released 1998)
December 7th, a date which will live in infamy? This decent quality 1976
soundboard recording comes smack dab in the middle of Elvis' final visit to Las
Vegas (15 shows in two weeks), from an up and down year by anyone's standard.
Unlike his bright tour at the end of the month (now documented on "private"
releases of spectacular gigs in Birmingham, Alabama and Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania) this show is like listening to a ghost. Given the spate of
saddening recent soundboards from 1976, anyone who has heard theBirmingham or
Pittsburgh knows that Elvis still had the ability to sing and entertain like no
one else, when he so desired. In Las Vegas there is no desire, no joy and very
little energy to spare -- he's a dead man walking.
The typical Las Vegas audience is one of the most impassive a performer can play
in front of (no matter how great the act, they'll just sit on their
hands like zombies) and it's obvious just how much Elvis hates playing there.
This is the Vegas visit where he sat in his room and wrote philosophical notes
of despair that Wayne Newton later bought at an auction. Perhaps this is one of
those gigs where "Colonel" Parker dunked his head in a bucket of ice water to
rouse him enough to make the show. He's exhausted from the first moments,
complaining of a pinched nerve in his right foot making him late, and his voice
throughout is flemmy and weak ("I got 17 frogs, all in my throat ... if you see
me turn around and spit ... ". There's a draggy feel to the performance, which
also proves that when Elvis switches to low gear so does the band.
Six songs into the set Elvis sits for some acoustic numbers led by his
half-hearted guitar playing -- he claims the key of E is the only one he knows
-- from the 1968 TV Special we all know how good he really was. "That's All
Right, Mama" falls apart towards the end while "Blue Christmas" is just 86
seconds from start to finish, and it's a mid-tempo song!
"Softly As I Leave You" does merit a sincere treatment and songs like "Fever"
and "Love Letters" emerge unscathed as well. He does "part of Hound Dog" as a
request (the standard trashed version) and engages in amusing banter with a
German fan but the best is saved for last.
At the point where it's usually the show closer "Can't Help Falling In Love" and
a quick exit, he asks the audience if he "can do a couple of spiritual songs" --
someone yells out "you're the King" and he says "thank you sir, I'm fixin' to
sing about Him". The Stamps are instructed by Presley to gather around the piano
as Charlie Hodge plays and takes the lead (and Elvis takes the bass line) on
"You Better Run" and "Bosom Of Abraham", recalling a similar scene from 1972 in
his final film, the documentary "Elvis On Tour". The jam session only lasts
about a minute and a half but it's a wonderful moment -- he seldom performed
these numbers on stage and it's obvious how much they meant to him. Too bad he
didn't actually tackle (as the title of this album implies) the gospel song "Run
On" as well.
The disc finishes with the standard outro vamp leading into a pre-recorded pitch
for a Christmas heart charity -- it's kind of weird, because if anyone needed a
new heart that December, it was Elvis.

The History Channel will present 10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America April
9th - 13th. The following information comes directly from the History Channel
news release:
"There are powerful days that make up the fabric of America's history. Some are
big and explosive, while others are understated and unexpected. Their importance
is realized later as we recognize how they set our nation on the path to what it
is today.
10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America is an expansive, 10-part television
event produced and directed by Oscar and Emmy award-winning filmmakers."
When America Was Rocked - April 11th at 9PM/8C:
"When Elvis Presley appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday, September 9,
1956, America stopped, watched and listened. An astounding 82% of households
with televisions tuned in to see the gyrating 21-year-old from Memphis whose
defiant musical style was, until then, mostly heard in black night clubs and on
late night radio shows. Elvis Presley's appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show was
the symbol of a whole new culture involving teenage independence, sexuality,
race relations and a new form of music."

Elvis and Barbra Streisand.
"Christohper Andersen, who has revealed the secrets of everyone from "Jack &
Jackie" & "George & Laura" to "Diana Ross" in his best-selling biographies, now
turns his attention to America's reigning diva. In "Barbra: The Way She Is"
[Morrow $23.95], he takes a long look at Streisand, both the artist & the woman.
This exclusive excerpt is all about Barbra & some of the men who figured large
in her life, if only in passing.
ELVIS PRESLEY:On her second to last night at the International [in Las Vegas],
Barbra introduced Elvis from the audience. Like everyone else who
had been at the disastrous opening-night performance, he was impressed with how
she had managed to turn things around so dramatically.
Afterward, Presley, tanned & fit & on the verge of a major comeback, visited
Barbra in her dressing room. Before she could react, he shut the door, knelt
down, grabbed a bottle of nail polish from her dresser, & started painting her
nails with long deliberate strokes. It was not the first time he had used this
ploy to catch a woman off balance. Ann Margret, with whom he enjoyed a long &
torrid affair, once told a friend Elvis enjoyed painting her toenails.
"I was...speechless," recalled Barbra, who soon added Elvis to her lengthening
list of what she now referred to as her "flings". Later, when Elvis followed her
at the International, Barbra "stayed over a few nights", said David Kramer, who
worked for the hotel under [Kirk] Kerkorian.
Although she seemed a far cry from the big-haired, toothsome, all-American
beauty queens Elvis preferred, Streisand "intrigued him", said alongtime
member of Presley's entourage.
"She had 1 thing Elvis valued above all others, a God-given ability to sing. He
was in awe of great talent".

Elvis Coffin Photo Still Missing.
The anthrax cleanup at the former American Media Inc. building in Boca Raton has
taken another twist. It may even have some officials all shook up.
Some 600 to 800 boxes of decontaminated photos from the tabloid publisher's
extensive library have been removed from the building - with permission from the
U.S. Environmental Agency, which has been overseeing the cleanup. But no one
seems to know where the boxes went. Inside those boxes may be the famed "Elvis
in his coffin" photo that graced the cover of the National Enquirer soon after
the singer's death in 1977.
Palm Beach County health officials don't know where the boxes went. And David
Rustine, owner of the building, did not return phone calls to his
office. Anthrax was mailed to the AMI building in the Arvida Park of Commerce in
October 2001 - only weeks after the 9/11 attacks and before
similar outbreaks were reported at other media outlets and government buildings.
The deadly spores killed Sun Photo Editor Bob Stevens and sickened another AMI
worker, Ernesto Blanco, who recovered. Bio-ONE decontaminated the building - and
last year began to fumigate boxes of building contents that included 4.5 million
photos - dead Elvis among them. Bio-ONE left in June after its lease ran out,
and Rustine hired MARCOR Remediation to finish.
By the end of 2005, MARCOR had fumigated some 8,600 boxes of photos, documents
and other items left behind when employees evacuated. Health officials say most
have been incinerated.

The Story Of The Estate of Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley's Graceland.
When Elvis died at Graceland on August 16, 1977, his will appointed his father,
Vernon Presley, who had long handled Elvis' personal, non-career business
affairs, as executor and trustee. The beneficiaries were Elvis' grandmother,
Minnie Mae Presley; his father, Vernon Presley; and his only child, Lisa Marie
Presley. The will provided that Vernon Presley could, at his discretion, provide
funds to other family members as needed. Vernon Presley died in 1979. Minnie Mae
Presley died in 1980. This left Lisa Marie Presley as the sole heir to the
estate. Elvis' will stated that her inheritance was to be held in trust for her
until her twenty-fifth birthday, February 1, 1993.
Vernon Presley's will brought about the appointment of three
co-executors/co-trustees to succeed him. They were: the National Bank of
Commerce in Memphis, which was the bank Elvis and Vernon had done business with;
Joseph Hanks, who had been Elvis and Vernon's accountant for a number of years;
and Priscilla Beaulieu Presley, who had divorced Elvis in 1973, but had
continued a close friendship with him and was Lisa's legal guardian. Joseph
Hanks retired from his post in 1990.Upon Lisa Presley's twenty-fifth birthday in
1993, the trust automatically dissolved and Lisa chose to form a new trust, The
Elvis Presley Trust, to continue the successful management of the estate, with
Priscilla Presley and the National Bank of Commerce continuing to serve as
co-trustees. In 1998, as Lisa Marie Presley's role in the management grew,
Priscilla Presley chose to redirect her efforts by moving to an advisory
position, continuing her close involvement and support while focusing more time
on her own ever-expanding individual pursuits as a successful actress and
businessperson.
Lisa Marie Presley became more closely involved with the management team of The
Elvis Presley Trust and its business entity, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE),
of which she was owner and Chairman of the Board until February 2005 when she
sold a major interest in the company. The Graceland Operation Elvis Presley
could have left one of the great fortunes of entertainment history, had he been
one to worry about financial planning, rather than freely enjoying and sharing
his wealth as he did. While the estate he left was by no means broke, there was
a cash flow problem, especially with Graceland costing over half a million
dollars a year in maintenance and taxes. It seemed logical for Priscilla and the
executors to open Graceland to the public. In late 1981, they hired Jack Soden,
at the time a Kansas City, Missouri investment counselor, to plan and execute
the opening of Graceland to the public and oversee the total operation.
Graceland opened for tours on June 7, 1982.
In 1983, through a long-term lease, EPE acquired the shopping center plaza
across the street from the mansion. From the time the plaza was built in the
sixties, it had been a typical suburban strip shopping center. However, almost
overnight after Elvis' death, it became an unsightly blemish of tacky Elvis
souvenir shops, which carried mostly bootleg items not licensed by the Presley
Estate. Upon assuming management of the shopping center property, EPE began
policing the un-licensed activities and began an overall facelift, while
continuing to honor the existing leases of the plaza tenants. By 1987, all the
leases had expired and Graceland began major renovations, which continue to this
day. In 1993, Graceland purchased the property. Today, all shops and attractions
in what is now known as Graceland Plaza are owned and operated by EPE. The land
where Graceland visitor parking and the airplanes exhibit are located was
already owned by EPE. (Elvis had purchased it in 1962 and had never developed
it.)
One important development for the Graceland visitor experience was the addition
of Elvis' Lisa Marie jet and Hound Dog II JetStar planes, which Elvis' father
had sold in 1978. They were brought back home to Memphis in a joint venture with
the current owners and opened for on-board tours in 1984. Another major
development was the opening of The Elvis Presley Automobile Museum in Graceland
Plaza in 1989.
Graceland Crossing, a neighboring shopping center with stores that featured
Elvis-related items, situated just north of Graceland Plaza, was built in
the latter half of the 1980's and was independently owned until Graceland
purchased it in the fall of 1997 as an addition to its visitor amenities. The
next major development was the purchase of an existing nearby hotel property,
renovating it and renaming it Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel in 1999.
Continued expansion and enhancement of visitor facilities and the development of
new Elvis exhibition projects are planned for the Graceland
complex.
Since opening to the public in 1982, Graceland has hosted millions of visitors
from every state in the union and nearly every country of the world. Prior to
Graceland's opening, there was minimal tourism trade in Memphis. Graceland
quickly became the cornerstone of the industry for the city and the region. The
Memphis tourism industry has expanded greatly with the development of
attractions such as the FedEx Forum, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the
National Civil Rights Museum, and the Wonders Series exhibits, and with the
continued growth and development of the Beale Street entertainment district,
Memphis in May, and a host of other attractions, museums, and special events.
Graceland welcomes over 600,000 visitors each year, is one of the five most
visited home tours in the United States, and is the most famous home in America
after The White House. In 1991, Graceland was placed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
The peak season for visitorship is Memorial Day through Labor Day. Attendance
ranges from a few hundred visitors on a weekday in the dead of winter to 2,000 -
3,500 visitors per day in the spring and early summer, to over 4,000 per day in
July at the height of the travel season. The total economic impact on the city
of Memphis from Graceland visitors is estimated to be $150 million per year or
possibly much more. A major part of that impact is that most Graceland visitors
come from outside the city, bringing new dollars into the community, not only
touring Graceland, but also patronizing other attractions in the area as well as
area hotels, restaurants, shops and other businesses while they are in town.
Further benefiting the city is the intense worldwide publicity that Graceland
and the Elvis Presley phenomenon continually bring to Memphis. Contributing to
the local impact is the fact that EPE employs approximately 350 people part-time
and full-time year 'round, a number that swells to as many as 450 in the busy
summer season.Graceland visitors come from all walks of life, all ages, all
musical tastes, all income levels, all educational backgrounds, and all parts of
the world. The demographics are broad. Over half of Graceland's visitors are
under the age of 35. Graceland is a must-see for visiting dignitaries, touring
Broadway show casts, touring rock stars, and people of virtually every
description coming to Memphis.
Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE) is the
corporate entity that was created by the Elvis Presley Trust to conduct
business and manage its assets. EPE was wholly owned by the Elvis Presley
Trust/Lisa Marie Presley until 2005.
In February 2005, Robert F.X. Sillerman and his then new media and entertainment
company CKX, Inc. acquired an 85% interest in the company Elvis Presley
Enterprises, Inc., including its physical and intellectual properties. Lisa
Marie Presley retains a 15% ownership in the company and continues to be
involved, as does her mother Priscilla. The pre-existing EPE management team
remains in place and the company's operations, including the Graceland tour,
