Elvis by the Presleys CBS News promotion.
It's been out for a while now but the CBS News website is still carrying
promotion for it this week:
Elvis Presley was an icon who is still, 28 years after his death, loved by
millions. While many admired him, few really knew him.
The woman who may have known him best was his ex-wife Priscilla Presley. She
shares her memories in a new CBS special called "Elvis By The Presleys".
In the special, Priscilla and Lisa Marie speak with unguarded candor about
their lives with the legendary Elvis Presley and offer an intimate look at
their family and private life.
"I'm a very shy person. My daughter and I don't do a lot of interviews, but
we felt there was a whole new generation of people who were discovering
Elvis and his music," Priscilla Presley tells The Early Show in a
pre-interview. "There are many books and stories that have been written
about him, but there are still so many questions that needed to be answered,
so we figured it was time to tell our story. We are sharing some very
intimate and personal things, but I really wanted to show the definitive
Elvis, warts and all."
Rare interviews with Elvis' first cousin, Patsy Presley Geranen, and
Priscilla's parents, Ann and Paul Beaulieu, are also featured.
"My mom is 79, my dad is 80," Priscilla Presley notes. "I felt
they had so
much to add, and we didn't want them to pass on and feel we let the
opportunity go. We knew from the very beginning that this was going to be
difficult."
Vintage, never-before-seen performance footage will be interwoven with
photographs from the Presley Estate archives and press coverage of Elvis
over the years. Private home movies of the Presley family illustrate and
illuminate his story with vivid detail, honest insight and great warmth.
Different aspects of Elvis' life, including his tours, his time in Hollywood
and his home life, are depicted with the insight that only his family can
bring. His career ups and downs, his kindness and generosity and his human
frailties are all brought to light as well as a reflection on his place in
entertainment history and his enduring legacy.
Stay tuned for Priscilla Presley's inteview Thursday morning.
You can see the special "Elvis By The Presleys" Friday night at 8:00
p.m./ET
7:00 p.m./CT, on CBS. This week, a companion book and CD, with the same
name will also be released.

Baptist Hospital - "And the walls come tumbling down."

Following is a press release from Memphis Bioworks Foundation regarding the
demolition of Baptist Hospital, where Elvis was treated on several
occasions, where the official prounouncement of his passing occurred and
where his daughter Lisa Marie was born.
Memphis Bioworks Foundation Announces Date of Baptist Main Tower Demolition
The Memphis Bioworks Foundation has announced that the implosion of the main
tower of the Baptist Hospital on Union Avenue will occur on November 6,
2005, at 6:30 a.m.
The implosion of the 924,000-square-foot tower is part of the Foundation's
second phase of demolition as it makes way for construction of the
UT-Baptist Research Park. The research park will ultimately consist of 1.2
million square feet of laboratory, research, education and business
development space located on a 10-acre campus in the heart of the Memphis
Medical District. The new campus will integrate research, teaching and
biomedical development.
The first phase consisted of the removal of the four-story Service building
in January of this year. The eight-story Interns' Residence and the 10-story
Physicians and Surgeons buildings were then imploded in May.
"Once the main tower has been cleared away, we'll be able to begin work on
the centerpiece of our infrastructure development for the city's biosciences
- the UT-Baptist Research Park," said Dr. Steven J. Bares, Executive
Director and President of the Memphis Bioworks Foundation. "We now will be
able to build highly specialized facilities for Memphis' growing bioscience
community, thereby attracting new companies and further boosting the
economic growth of the region."
Bares added that the clean up and debris removal process is expected to be
finished in about 11 months.
The completion of the UT-Baptist Research Park is estimated to take ten
years, and will be completed in six phases. The Foundation is executing a
business plan that is leveraging Memphis' unique assets to fulfill the
nation's need for an urban biotech research park. When completed, the entire
development will provide $250 million in annual salaries for 5,000 new jobs
and $2 billion in annual economic impact.
Memphis Bioworks Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, was formed in
early 2001 to establish the Memphis region as an internationally recognized
center for biomedical technology. Baptist Memorial Health Care donated its
property in the Medical Center to the Foundation for the site of its
research park, the focal point of the biomedical and economic development.
The research park, which will include an incubation program to develop new
businesses in biotechnology, will be the centerpiece of a larger biomedical
research and development center.

Elvis's cousin and The Jordanaires ready to rock "Heartbreak
Hotel".
His name is Presley, he has a distinctive American accent - and he's
performing in Wales. But before you start thinking Elvis is still alive
after all, it's not The King taking to the stage. It's the next best thing -
his cousin Jerry Presley. And one of the venues he will be appearing at is
the Heartbreak Hotel.
Jerry is the first male member of the Presley family to visit the UK. He
flew into London last night ahead of the second Porthcawl Elvis Festival,
which opens tomorrow. Jerry will be performing five tribute concerts to his
iconic cousin during the festival weekend. He decided to travel to Wales
from his home in Kansas City for the three-day event after learning about it
from the owners of London's Elvisly Yours, which sells Elvis memorabilia.
'The festival's a great idea - it's a good opportunity for fans to hear more
about Elvis and his music,' said Jerry, who possesses the unmistakable
Presley voice.
The festival will feature Elvis tribute artists from all over the world,
including Mario Kombou, recently crowned in Memphis World Champion Elvis
tribute.
'There are a lot of good tribute artists out there,' said Jerry, whose
great-grandfather was the brother of Elvis's great-grandfather. 'It's
amazing that 27 years after his death his popularity continues to grow - you
can't say that about any other person. He was The King - there will never be
another Elvis Presley.'
Jerry believes Elvis, who died on August 16, 1977, would be a little bemused
with his iconic status if he were still alive.
'He never liked being called The King, but as far as the phenomenon of his
popularity is concerned, he would give credit to all his fans.'
While millions of people loved Elvis's public persona as the music and film
legend, Jerry knew the 'real' Elvis.
'He was a typical, everyday, normal human being,' said Jerry. 'He loved to
have fun - he was a big joker.'
Jerry does not see much of Elvis's family. 'I don't see Priscilla or
Lisa-Marie too often as they are in another part of the country.'
Jerry has a busy work schedule and stages scores of shows throughout America
every year.
'I get a very positive reaction from Elvis's fans,' he said. 'I try to pay
tribute to him in a first-class way. I try to keep the shows classy -
nothing cheesy.'
Jerry travels with a 16-piece band, The Jordanaires, who were Elvis's
original backing singers. He will make his Welsh debut tonight with a
performance at The Litten Tree in Bridgend. His other gigs as part of the
Porthcawl Elvis Festival will be at Trecco Bay Holiday Park (tomorrow, 9pm);
The Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl (Saturday, 8pm); Hi-Tide Inn, Porthcawl
(Sunday, 1pm) and Heartbreak Hotel, Porthcawl (Sunday, 9pm). The festival,
which begins tomorrow and ends on Sunday, was launched last year by
organiser Peter Phillips and was a huge success.
'I wanted to do something for Porthcawl and had an idea to put on an award
show for Elvis tribute artists to give them the recognition they deserve. I
had no idea it would be as big as it was. It was the biggest Elvis festival
in Europe and the second biggest in the world. When I went to America people
had heard of Porthcawl because of the festival.'

EPE CLOSE ELVIS-A-RAMA?

Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., a subsidiary of CKX inc, has agreed a deal
to acquire the assets of the Las Vegas based Elvis-A-Rama museum.
The deal includes the trademark to the name "Elvis-A-Rama," the
related
website name and a substantial portion of the memorabilia currently on display
at
the Las Vegas-based museum.
The existing museum will be permanently closed down and the Elvis-A-Rama
name retired as part of CKX's and EPE's overall plan to bring a world class
Elvis-themed attraction to the Las Vegas strip.
Robert F.X. Sillerman, Chairman and CEO of CKX said "As we have mentioned
on
numerous occasions, establishing a major presence for the 'Elvis' brand in
Las Vegas is an important priority of the company. The closure of the museum
together with the purchase of the artifacts and memorabilia currently
located there, clears the way for implementation of our plan."
CKX and EPE are acquiring these assets from Chris Davidson and certain other
minority partners. Davidson has been collecting Elvis memorabilia for more
than ten years and is one of the world's most well known private collectors of
such items.
As part of the deal, Chris Davidson has been allowed the right to open a
licensed Elvis-themed museum in Hawaii, a location often associated with Elvis
Presley.
In addition to receipt of the licensing fee, the Company will retain the
right to acquire a significant equity interest in the Hawaiian operations.
Hawaii
served as the location for three of Mr. Presley's films and perhaps most
famously, was
home to the 1973 concert "Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii," which was
broadcast
worldwide and ultimately viewed by more than 1.5 billion people around the world.
Note: Sillerman's company did not close Elvis A Rama, it will be open at
least another year. Then they are supposedly are going to open an Elvis
related place
somewhere on the Vegas strip.
What they really wanted is two things. One: To eliminate a popular
longtime
established Elvis museum that would be competition for them.
Two: To buy the only Elvis trademarked name they didn't own.
Elvis A Rama was trademarked before Graceland started trademarking
everything Elvis and was granfathered in legally by the previous owner Jimmy
Velvet.

Ann-Margret to star in "The Santa Claus 3".

Ann-Margret will play Tim Allen's mother-in-law, who is waspish and very
critical of her daughter. Michael Lembeck is directing the script, which was
written by Ed Decter and John Strauss.
All three worked on "The Santa Clause 2," the 2002 sequel to the 1994
holiday smash. Ann-Margret was nominated for Oscars for her
performances
in "Carnal Knowledge" and "Tommy," and starred opposite
Elvis Presley in
"Viva Las Vegas."
Her recent credits include "Taxi," opposite Jimmy Fallon

from Houston - February 27 1970 (Evening Show)

If you look at the footage you can see a clock next to the ELVIS sign (in

The footage starts at around 8.24pm (the Rodeo show started at 7.45pm I
guess) with Elvis being driven to the stage, and Elvis is driven back from
the stage and around the Astrodome at 9.02pm (9.03pm). This struck me as a
short concert! (38 minutes).

New Czech Releases.
The Czech fan club label Memory Records will release two new live CDs next
week. Both CDs are dedicated to Elvis Presley appearances in Las Vegas in
1975. The sound of these recordings CDs was digitally restored.

The first CD, "Las Vegas Moonlight" (CD MR 2048-2), contains the
December
10, 10 P.M. (dinner) show. This show was previously available on an old
import CD in very incomplete form and in poor sound. This new release is
taken from different original audience recorded mono master tape.
Originally, the concert was long about 82 minutes. Producers decided to edit
out 2:30 minutes of Elvis' dialogue to fit the show on to one compact disc.
However, no songs or instrumental band solos were edited. Elvis was in a
particularly good mood and his high spirits were evident as he sung "Can't
Help Falling In Love" as the second song of the show. This version was
performed practically acapela and followed immediately by the closing vamp.
Elvis acted like he was going to end the show and left the stage. However he
came back immediately and continued with a short but complete "When My Blue
Moon Turns To Gold Again", a true live rarity. Elvis then showed his full
vocal power in "Trying To Get To You", "You Gave Me A Mountain",
and "Just
Pretend" to name just a few of the highlights. He dedicates "How Great
Thou
Art" to his friend evangelist Rex Humbard and near the end of the show
performs "My Way" by request for the first time since May 1974. He is
unsure
in the lyrics and he gets some help from his accompanying singer Sherrill
Nielsen during the song which makes this particular performance very special
too.
Track listing :
01. Also Sprach Zarathustra (A 2001 Space Odyssey Theme) - 02. See See Rider
- 03. Can't Help Falling In Love (No.1) - 04. Closing Vamp (No.1) - 05. When

Approx. running time: 79:41

Second CD, "Springtime In Nevada" (CD MR 2049-2) represent Elvis
Presley
Spring 1975 Las Vegas engagement. This mono audience recording is previously
unreleased and apparaently in very good sound quality. The CD runs for
almost 70 minutes. Elvis' dinner show on March 25 was a very typical concert
for this season. Elvis was less chatty and he concentrated more on his
singing. His voice was strong again and he gave several solid performances
of recent songs, whilst the majority of his old standards were excluded from
the set list. Among the best moments of this show are spellbinding
performances of his "Stax" numbers "It's Midnight", "Promised
Land" and "My
Boy". Elvis paid attention to rock and rhythm and blues numbers again and
he
treated songs like "Big Boss Man", "Burning Love" and "T-R-O-U-B-L-E"
with
gusto and respect. The latter two tracks are included as special bonuses and
were taken from another tape, recorded live during the following spring tour
in Tampa, Florida on April 26 at the 8:30 P.M. show.
Track listing :
01. Opening Vamp / See See Rider - 02. I Got A Woman / Amen (medley) - 03. I
Can Help (excerpt) / Love Me - 04. If You Love Me (Let Me Know) - 05. And I

09. Promised Land - 10. Fairytale - 11. Band Introductions - 12. What'd I
Say (instrumental, by James Burton) - 13. Drums Solo (by Ronnie Tutt) - 14.

"King of the Mountain" - another brooding epic.
This is a reminder of what we have been missing with Kate Bush's absence.
Tori Amos, Björk and others have attempted to eclipse Bush's
otherworldliness, musicality and sheer weirdness, but none has come close
and King Of The Mountain shows why.
It's a brooding epic which begins with an ominous guitar riff before that
instantly recognisable voice charges in. "Could you see the aisles of women?
Could you see them screaming and weeping?" she asks.
As ever, she is too subtle a writer to offer answers to who the king is and
where his mountain might be, but there are references to Elvis (Presley?)
and Rosebud, the talismanic sledge in Orson Welles' Citizen Kane.
The allegorical lyrical mystery makes her music more alluring. Bush was
always a uniquely physical writer, but the more this song progresses, the
more she sounds buffeted by the elements atop a frozen mountain. Gales howl
around her before she concludes: "The wind, it blows the door closed."
It is
not easy listening, but it is a landmark work. I can't wait for Aerial.

PRISCILLA REVIEWS HER LIFE.

Priscilla Presley -- former superstar spouse, Leslie Nielsen's leading lady
and best- selling author -- is coming to Kentucky Oct. 10 and 11. She will speak
at
Toyota's In the Interest of Women conference and share her formula for finding
success. She recently chatted with us about calling it quits with the King and
her
confident career moves.
Q. What will you be talking about at the conference?
A. I'm basically taking the audience through my life and what I've learned
and how I've come out of it. You kind of go through the trials and tribulations
of
what I had to deal with. One doesn't have lessons on how to live with a
superstar,
especially at a young age. It's fantasy, but believe me, it's more reality than
one can
imagine.
Q. How did you find the courage to end your marriage to Elvis?
A. That was the most difficult year of my life. That was not a decision I
abruptly made. I could not change his world. It was fun and it was great, but
when
you have a child, it's a little bit different. You can't do all the traveling,
you
can't be on set like you used to. . I wanted to bring my child traveling with me
when we
went out of town. That was not really something that I could do, because other
members of the group had children, and he didn't feel like he wanted to have a
bunch of
children around. . You're faced with reality. That was probably the turning
point for me. I (was) serving two masters. I had to face the fact that his world
was never going to change. I didn't leave out of hate. I still loved him very
much,
but I had to start living my own life.
Q. Did you dream of becoming an actress and an author?
A. They were not always aspirations. I was very willing and wanting to
create a home life. My parents are still together. We just celebrated their 57th
wedding anniversary. So I came from a very solid family background, and so did
Elvis, really. I was prepared to basically be a wife and a mother. I didn't have
dreams of coming to Hollywood and being an actress. Those are things I started
very
gradiently on after my divorce. After Elvis died, I realized that I needed
to really get my life together. We remained friends until the day he died.
Q. How did you segue into acting and doing commercials?
A. I started designing clothes and had my own boutique for about five years,
and (after that) I was asked about doing commercials, and I went on to become
the spokesperson for Wella.
I started very late in life for being in the business. It was step by step.
It was a challenge because I'd never acted before. I took acting lessons. I
was very shy, had to be forced on the stage to do a scene. I got this little
show
called "Those Amazing Animals" with Burgess Meredith. Even though we
only did 13
shows, it put me in front of an audience. In many ways, that paved the way
for me to start getting into (more) television.
Q. How did you get hooked up with "The Naked Gun" folks?
A. I was on "Dallas" for five years, and it was during a hiatus. They
were
filming "The Naked Gun" and they asked to see me, and I went in and
auditioned,
never thinking ever that I was going to get the part, because I was never known
to
be, nor am I a comedian. They said they weren't looking for a comedian. That's
exactly what they didn't want. If you look at some of the cast, like Ricardo
Montalban, Robert Goulet, the (Zucker brothers) certainly took risks. I got the
call
three days later saying I got the part. I was totally shocked that I got it. I
had no
idea why they would want me for this. Once we started shooting, I felt very
comfortable
and really loved it. It was the best time that I ever had. Leslie could not have
been
nicer. He was the greatest partner because he knew it was my first major film.
He kind
of took me by the hand and made me feel very comfortable. I was very
intimidated at first, knowing who he was.
Q. What compelled you to become an author?
A. The book "Elvis and Me" was a book in response to a "Elvis"
by Albert
Goldman, which was so critical of Elvis in every aspect. Goldman did one on
Lenny Bruce and John Lennon. I did not want "Elvis" to be a book my
daughter read
thinking this was her father. It was more about a desperation to clear his
name. I did a very personal book.
Q. What was the process of writing like?
A. Writing is never easy, because you get very emotional, and you have to
put everything in perspective. One wants the reader to understand them, and I
found so many times when I wrote, I truly understood what I was writing. But you
have to look at it from the perspective of the reader, and writing takes on a
whole
different form. So I wrote and rewrote. I handwrote everything. And the girl who
was
helping me, Sandra, she'd edit it. I have boxes and boxes of handwritten pages.
It
was not easy, no. It's a very long process. I said I'd never do it again.
Q. Would you take a stab at writing fiction?
A. Maybe, because it's not so personal.
Q. What do you take time out to enjoy?
A. I certainly try to spend a lot of time with my family. I feel that's very
important, especially in a day and age now where families are growing apart. I
value my
family very much. I definitely exercise, and I make sure that I don't get
stressed out. I find things I like to do and mix it with what I need to do. In
America here, we are very work-involved people. We tend to put that before
everything else.
We don't put enough time in for ourselves.
Q. Have you ever been to Kentucky before?
A. I came to Lexington once when I was doing "Dallas." I was there
with
Larry Hagman and Linda Gray and we went to the races. We had come in for the
Derby, and I couldn't stay for it. I remember Anita Madden very well. But I was
so
sorry I missed the big race

Elvis: The Personal Archives Book.

Elvis: The Personal Archives
Channel Photographics proudly announces the release of Elvis: The Personal
Archives, a unique first book by artist Jeff Scott with text by renowned art
historian, E.A. Carmean, Jr.
Beginning in 2000, with the cooperation of the Elvis Presley Enterprises,
artist Jeff Scott gained unlimited access to Elvis's personal artifacts to
create a complex portrait of the music legend through his belongings.
Scott's images reveal the humanity of Elvis behind the recognizable
celebrity veneer.
As an example, the way Scott juxtaposes a gun from Elvis' collection and
vanity police badges reveals a fundamental rift between Presley's rebellious
reputation and his interest in law enforcement. Other photos in the book
include the gold bedside telephone, the TV with a bullet hole though the
screen and the travel trunk filled with scarves still in their dry cleaning
plastic. These provide a rare portrayal of Elvis's inner life, placing the
public man in an intimate context. Throughout, Scott explores our complex
relationship with modern celebrity culture and the ways in which our
possessions and material objects outlive us to tell our story.
Jeff Scott is known for his dramatic imagery of America's historic and
cultural landscape and his work is in the permanent collections of the
Dallas Museum of Art, the Smithsonian, Disneyland, Ralph Lauren, and the
National Trust for Historic Preservation.
E.A. Carmean, Jr., the art historian, includes among his books Great Decade
of American Abstraction: Modernist Art, 1960 to 1970.

The Priscilla Presley Collection.
Australian businessman Bruno Schiavi took Delta Goodrem's knickers to the
world and now he's climbing into bed with Priscilla Presley. Schiavi has
joined forces with Presley to release a range of bed linen, robes, slippers,
towels and candles.
"We are out in the world fighting battles every single day and the one
place
you come home to is a place that is like your bedroom that is a sanctuary
for you," Presley said from her Los Angeles home.
"I love the fabrics. The collection shows versatility, uniqueness and
style."
Schiavi relocated from Sydney to Los Angeles earlier this year to work with
Presley on the collection which will be released in Australia in February
next year.
"I am hands on with this with Bruno," said Elvis' ex, who also has her
own
perfume range. "I could never just lend my name and have somebody do all
the
work for me. I would feel like I am cheating myself and cheating the
consumer."
Schiavi, who was this week listed in BRW magazine's young rich list, said he
is often approached by celebrities looking to broaden their markets. The
businessman specialises in working with high profile people and in the past
has mostly worked on marketing lingerie ranges for celebrities, among them
Delta Goodrem. He said the most important part of his endeavours is feeling
a connection with the person he is working with.
"I could have met Priscilla and she could have been lovely but at the same
time, if I didn't think we could work together, I wouldn't have gone ahead,"
Schiavi, 33, said. "Being a global launch, it is a huge challenge for my
company and I have got to make sure this partnership actually lasts for a
long time."
Schiavi is in negotiations with retail outlets internationally to distribute
the Presley collection. Priscilla Presley will come to Australia in February
or March 2006 to launch the first range.
"February is when I am hoping to come for the launch," she said.
"And that
gives me a chance to meet up with some friends that I have there too and
share what we have created and hope that they are as excited as we are."
The Priscilla Presley Collection will consist of nine lines, with the bed
linen made of fine egyptian cottons and in a range of colours from whites to
browns, gold and green. One line was inspired by a favourite pair of
Presley's pants.
Presley was married to Elvis from 1967 to 1973 and has two children, Lisa
Marie Presley and Navarone Garibaldi. Aside from her new business venture,
Presley has been working on the release of the Elvis by the Presleys book
and DVD.
"I have been taken aback by the success of both the DVD and the book,"
she
said. "I couldn't be happier and I know that means a lot to the (Elvis
Presley) Estate. "Again, it shows that Elvis certainly is probably more
popular than he was when he was alive. His legacy just keeps going."

Presley house nominated to the National Register of Historic Places.

There are no jungle rooms at 1034 Audubon Drive, no gold records and no pink
Cadillacs. But this modest ranch-style house in the Audubon Park Subdivision
of southeast Memphis shares a history with Graceland, the famous
white-columned mansion more than 10 miles (16 kilometers) away.
The house Elvis Presley purchased at age 21, a home that his fame quickly
outgrew, has been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. The
State Review Board approved the nomination Tuesday and now it moves on -
just as Graceland did in 1991 - for approval at the national level.
Judith Johnson, an architecture historian in Memphis, helped the private
owners put the house up for nomination. No stranger to Elvis history,
Johnson was involved in protecting from demolition a Memphis public housing
unit, Lauderdale Courts, where Elvis spent his teenage years.
Now she's hoping to put another Elvis homestead on the map. While Graceland
is synonymous with the rock 'n' roll legend, Johnson said, the little
Audubon represents another period of Elvis' life.
Purchased with his first royalty checks from RCA Studio on March 8, 1956,
Elvis, his parents and grandmother lived in the four-bedroom house for only
a year. One month after moving in, his single "Heartbreak Hotel" hit
No. 1
on the Billboard charts, ultimately ending any privacy he had in the
neighborhood.
Crowds of fans lined the suburban street and police frequently had to be
called in to handle the growing problem. This massive, and often emotional,
response by fans to Elvis and his music would come to characterize the rest
of his life and career.
A Life magazine article from August 1956 had pictures of teenage girls
sitting with their ears pressed to his bedroom wall and picking through the
grass in his yard for souvenirs. A brick and wrought iron fence surrounding
the property was erected soon after, and Elvis' room was moved to the back
of the house, Johnson said, but the attention did not stop.
Freeman said that what made Elvis different from other musicians and
celebrities was his affection for his fans, no matter how large the crowds.
In the short time the family was there, Elvis had a 50-foot (15-meter)-long
granite pool installed in the backyard and a den added to the house,
according to records. The pool was the largest residential pool in Memphis
when he built it. His motorcycles were housed in a separate building, which
eventually became a pool house complete with two dressing rooms.
Many of Alfred Wertheimer's photographs of the emerging musician were shot
at this house, chronicling Elvis' growing fame and fortune. These
photographs helped the owners recreate the interior decoration as close as
possible with period furniture from the 1950s.
In March 1957, Elvis swapped the house on Audubon Drive for a 14-acre
(5.6-hectare) estate with a two-story colonial already known as Graceland, a
home that Elvis would make famous. But the Audubon house still gets its
share of fans, although they've stopped knocking on the doors in the middle
of the night, Freeman said, AP reports.

These songs document the process of the Hillbilly Cat from Memphis, the king
of western bop, becoming simply The King and the music contained here
documents the seed-sowing of what we now know as Rock and Roll.

Britain's answer to Elvis blames radio ban for ending his recording career.
Britain's "Elvis", Cliff Richard.
For his diehard fans it will be a cause for dismay. Others might see it as
an excuse for a celebration. Either way, Cliff Richard's announcement that
he will not be releasing any more records closes the door on one of the most
prolific careers in popular music.
Sir Cliff's music is no longer as popular as it was - at least not with the
arbiters of taste at UK radio stations. The 64-year-old yesterday blamed an
unofficial boycott for driving him out of the recording industry.

Actress/producer Victoria Paige Meyerink visited Graceland on September
15th. She was in Memphis promoting her latest film production.
As a child actress Victoria appeared as the character Ellie Esterlake in the
1968 movie "Speedway" with Elvis. If you know the movie, you'll
remember her
as the little girl who goes around swiping food for her down-and-out father
and siblings.
Elvis's character, race car driver Steve Grayson, befriends the family and
helps them out. Elvis sings the song "Your Time Hasn't Come Yet, Baby"
to
Victoria in the film.

AUSTRALIAN rock band INXS claim their new singer has been approved by
Michael Hutchence. Canadian JD Fortune -- a former Elvis impersonator who
was so broke he slept in his car -- was chosen to replace the late Hutchence
on yesterday's finale of reality TV show Rock Star.
INXS guitarist Tim Farriss said a surprise thunderstorm in LA yesterday --
the day they had to choose their new singer -- was a sign from Hutchence; it
had not rained the entire time they had been in Hollywood to film Rock Star.

Joel Hirschborn Dies.
Joel Hirschhorn, who shared two Academy Awards for theme songs in "The
Poseidon Adventure" (1973) and "The Towering Inferno," (1975) has
died. He
was 67. Hirschhorn died Sunday of a heart attack at Los Robles Hospital and
Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, his wife, documentary producer Jennifer
Carter Hirschhorn, said Monday. He had broken his shoulder in a fall Friday
night, she said.
Hirschhorn's songs sold more than 90 million records, were featured in 20
movies and were recorded by various artists. Elvis recorded his song "Your
Time Hasn't Come Yet Baby" in 1967 for the movie soundtrack of
"Speedway".
Two years later, Hirschhorn and Kasha, who co-wrote the Elvis track, were
nominated for a pair of Oscars for songs from the Disney animated film
"Pete's Dragon." Hirschhorn and Kasha also received two Tony Award
nominations.

PLAQUE FOR ARIZONA MEMORIAL.

Elvis documentary maker Bernard Roughton informs that in August, he was able
to gain access to the Bloch Arena Nr Pearl Harbour, Oahu, Hawaii. Which is
not an easy task to do as a civilian because you need permission from the
base commander.
The show was performed on Sunday, March 25 - 1961 at 8.30 P.M. at the Bloch
Arena in Pear Harbor.

There were 4000 tickets sold in the price range from $3 - $10, and an
additional 100 tickets of $100 each were reserved for a special ringside
section in the bloch arena. 50 of these tickets were bought by Elvis and The
Colonel and donated to patients from the Tripler Hospital.
Elvis' benefit concert raised over $65,000 for the USS Arizona memorial
building fund. All proceeds
went directly to the project, without anything held for expenses. Even Elvis
and the Colonel had to
buy a ticket to get into the show. This show created one of the biggest
private donations to
the memorial fund.
Elvis wore his gold lame jacket and black dress pants. This would be the
last time Elvis would ever wear the gold lame jacket. The concert itself would
become the last
performance on stage till Elvis return on stage, almost 8 years later in Las
Vegas in 1969.
One week after Bernards visit to the arena, Lisa Marie Presley & her son,
plus about 10 other people, also visited the arena, wanting to see where her
Dad did the fund-raising concert for the USS Arizona Memorial.
As you probably know, there is NO OFFICIAL plaque commemorating this concert
at Pearl Harbour, or the Bloch Arena. But Bernard has found out that Tom Hulet
Concerts West?)
has agreed to donate a plaque & there is a place on the outer wall which has
been discussed as a possible site, but the U.S. Naval Authorities are not
keen on the idea of commemorating one of, if not the single biggest and
generous private donation by Elvis Presley in helping to build the memorial.
There is however, a small "non-official" display in a corridor leading
to
the arena, due purely to the efforts of a fan who works near there, but a
proper, "Official" plaque is needed.
Let's get Lisa Marie on board and get Elvis recognised for his part in
honouring the many who lost their lives on December 7th 1941.

A photographic memoir of the making of Elvis Presley's two "in person"
films.
.jpg)
Elvis: The Documentaries By Joseph A. Tunzi Available In November 1st 2005!
In November 1st 2005 from J.A.T. Publishing comes Elvis: The Documentaries.
Joseph Tunzi has put together a beautiful 125-page photo journal that will
take you into Elvis Presley's two acclaimed documentaries, including That's
The Way It Is, and Golden Globe winner Elvis On Tour.
In 1970, Elvis Presley was in the middle of the greatest musical comeback
any entertainer ever experienced. The most exciting aspect of his return was
his triumphant Las Vegas return to the concert stage. He decided that a film
chronicling his live performances would be a way to convey where he was at
today and entertain those who could not come out to see him. The resulting
film was That's The Way It Is, a movie Elvis called his best in a decade.
In April, 1972, Elvis took off on his fourth tour of the 70's and the
cameras went with him. The concerts and the film that resulted, Elvis On
Tour, were rapturously received. Elvis On Tour remains the only time Elvis
publicly reflected on his life and it was awarded the Golden Globe for best
documentary of 1972.
Elvis: The Documentaries takes you behind the scenes during the making of
these seminal films. With new facts on their production and over 135
unpublished photographs, Elvis: The Documentaries is an essential addition
to everyone's Elvis library. You will see Elvis during rehearsals, in the
studio, and onstage entertaining his friends and fans.
J.A.T. Publishing has again created a book that will be both beautiful and
informative. Elvis: The Documentaries is an outstanding book that shows you
why Elvis was proud to have made these films.

Elvis performed on X Factor.
Elvis Presley performed for the X Factor judges on Saturday night's show.
But wasn't the real king of rock and roll hoping to impress Sharon Osbourne,
Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell and make it through to the finals of the ITV1
talent show. Instead the judges were forced to listen to the north of
England's own Elvis Presley - a man from Scomersdale who had changed his
name to that of the legendry music star.
Sadly this Elvis left the building after receiving a unanimous "no"
vote
from the trio who decided the hopeful just didn't live up to his name.
"I think you're more Shakin' Stevens than Elvis Presley," Louis told
Elvis
after his audition.
"Hmm, I think you're more Shufflin' Stevens than Shakin' Stevens,"
added
acid-tongued Simon.
Later in the show, Sharon came face to face with her own biggest fan.
Londoner Erika declared her love for Mrs Osbourne before breaking into
uncontrollable sobs.
"Oh, oh Sharon, can I hug you Sharon? Oh I love you, I meet you in the
flesh, I love you so much," the obsessed fan exclaimed.
Her adulation seemed to carry weight with Sharon, who voted to put Erika
through to the X Factor finals despite both Simon and Louis berating her
performance of the Gloria Gaynor hit "I Will Survive."

THE CHARRO CHAPEL CHALLENGE.

Elvis "Charro" Chapel mystery deepens: On 8 September we published a
story
that the chapel donated to Superstition Mountain Museum was not the chapel
featured in Charro. We have now been contacted by Philip Rauso Jr. whose
research is at odds with our earlier story.
Philip says:
"My name is Philip Rauso, Jr. and I am a historian for the area of Apache
Junction, particularly, Apacheland Movie Ranch and other movie making
locations in the area. I read a recent posting on your website by a man
named Tim Casara. He said that the church the Superstition Mountain Museum
is looking to preserve is bogus and is not the same building from 1969 Elvis
movie "Charro!"I have researched the building for the past 10 years
and I
can assure you that it is in fact the very same building that was in
"Charro!" the movie. After the building was damaged by canon fire in
the
movie, the only way to save the building was to add certain features to it
to cover up the damage. Photos on my site show the current building in the
same position and location as the original building. Other photos show
CLEARLY that it is exactly the same building right down to the fancy trim
under the overhangs and the mountain bluffs and shrubbery in the background.
they match identically.
I applaud the efforts of the Superstition Mountain Museum for saving this
piece of Elvis history and am proud to have been a part of helping to raise
funds for it. When the building is completed and moved to its new location
in the near future, I hope to put my vast collection of "Charro!"
artifacts,
including his cement footprints, on display. I am also helping with efforts
to building "The Arizona Cowboy Museum" in the same location that many
desert scenes were filmed in "Charro!" and many other western movies
and TV
shows. I will also be putting up a "Charro!" display at this location
and
hope the two museums will compliment each other".
You can read more about these efforts on the museum website:

New Book Elvis Religion: Exploring the Cult of The King.

(ISBN: 1845111648) 208 pages by author Gregory L. Reece Published by I.B.
Tauris releasedate March,2006.
The first portrait of Elvis as religious icon From Graceland to Las Vegas,
from fans to impersonators, from novels, films and popular music to internet
websites, outsider art and tabloid conspiracy theories, the cult of Elvis
Presley has, since his death, become ever more imaginative. Elvis Religion
explores the frequently bizarre and weird - yet sometimes moving - phenomena
growing out of this world and investigates what it is that has turned the
King of Rock 'n' Roll into a god-like figure. Elvis, we discover, is found
everywhere.
He is not just an icon for late night lonely hearts in Memphis, or Elvis
impersonators on a Vegas stage, but is the inspiration
behind the violent visions of movies like Mystery Train and Wild at Heart,
the kitsch sanctuary of Graceland Too, the music
of Kirsty MacColl and Paul Simon, and the internet church for whom he is a
supernatural being who dwells in the constellation of Orion. Gregory L Reece
makes a journey to discover the Jumpsuit Jesus for himself, which takes him
into the heart of fan obsession. Along the way, he discovers that if Elvis
Saves it is because now, more than ever, the Memphis Messiah seems like a
prophet for our times.

Investors Are All Shook Up.
A pair of big investors in "All Shook Up," starring Cheyenne Jackson
(center), could've used a hunk, a hunk of burnin' love from the lead
producer.
"I Got Stung" never made its way into the Elvis Presley musical "All
Shook
Up." But it's the perfect song for backers of a show that had enormous
potential but, because of mismanagement, behind-the-scenes feuds and an
arrogant and inexperienced lead producer, has turned out to be one of last
season's costliest flops.
One person involved in the production calls "All Shook Up," which will
likely lose more than $10 million, "a massive missed opportunity." Two
principal investors - Miramax Films and Clear Channel Entertainment - are so
disgusted with the way things have been run by Jonathan Pollard, the lead
producer, that they've withdrawn from the production. The two companies have
written off the money they've already sunk into the show and are refusing to
put up any more. "We're gone," says a source at one of the companies.
"The
thing is a disaster."
While other shows posted recorded numbers at the box office this summer,
"All Shook Up" barely held its head above water. It's expected to lose
hundreds of thousands of dollars in the next month. The picture wasn't
always so bleak for "All Shook Up." While in development last year, it
generated good word of mouth. "People were lining up to give us money,"
says
a production source. "It was fresh and exciting and fun." It was also
Pollard's first Broadway show.
Having made a fortune as the producer of the long-running off-Broadway
revue, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," he was ready to enter
the
big time. He was so sure of the success of "All Shook Up" - and of his
own
producing skills - that he told potential investors, "If you want to be in
this game, you are going to have to follow my guidelines." The only problem
was, Pollard (who refused to comment for this column) really didn't know
what he was doing. The show's budget ballooned during its out-of-town tryout
in Chicago last winter as Pollard butted heads with the creative team. He
also fought bitterly with Miramax founder Harvey Weinstein, who, sources
say, had good ideas on how to improve and market the show.
"The problem with Jonathan is that unless it's his idea, he won't listen to
it," a person involved in the show says. Pollard tried to market "All
Shook
Up," a $10 million Broadway musical, the same way he marketed "I Love
You,
You're Perfect, Now Change," which was produced on a shoestring. He
resisted
spending money on television ads in the spring - a key time, since so much
attention is focused on the Tony Awards - preferring instead to pass out
flyers and CDs at the half-price ticket booth. "Flyers and CDs are not
going
to change your fate," says a production source.
He eventually shot a TV commercial but waited too long to air it, many of
his investors believe. Says one, "We got a lot of good reviews, but he
never
capitalized on them." His arrogance also alienated many people.
"He would sit there at marketing meetings in front of a hundred people and
pontificate for hours," says a person who attended the meetings. "He
produced a little off-Broadway show, and he thought he was Cameron
Mackintosh."
The mood backstage at "All Shook Up" these days is grim. The cast
shows up
for work every day expecting a closing notice. But Pollard is vowing to keep
the show open at least until the end of the year and has raised some
additional money from new investors.
As wise men say, only fools rush in.
