Elvis liquor decanters and more...

For $500, in boxes & in excellent cond., many more Elvis collectibles
available." When asked how many Elvis things she has, Marie Wellman sighs
and says, "Oh, I don't know - too many.
" After 35 years of piecing together Elvis' life one ticket stub, one charm
bracelet and one decorative plate at a time, Wellman, 52, and her husband
are selling their house in Tarpon Springs and moving into a smaller one. She
was 16 or 17 the first time she saw Elvis in concert.

"Any time he was anywhere near here, we'd go," she said. In the mid '70s she
took her first husband with her to a concert, where, she devilishly admits,
she left him in the crowd so she could sneak backstage. She was there just
long enough to see Elvis and grab his hand before his entourage whisked him
away.

She went to Graceland in August 1977 after Elvis' death. She remembers how
her boss thought she was nuts when she called to say she wouldn't be in for
a few days. But she had to be there, had to witness the spectacle.

Had to find a way to reconcile the loss. Had to say goodbye. Now comes
change in Wellman's life. So, out go the trinkets, baseball cards, liquor
decanters and limited-edition lithographs.
But she's keeping her record collection and her newspaper clippings.

The memories may need to be dusted off from time to time, but they will
never die.

Belgian press on Elvis The Concert.

We can't say that the Belgian media was raving wild about the 4th Elvis The
Concert show in Belgium, this past week. However, in both articles (only 2
were written) the respect for Elvis The Singer is never far away.

Gunther Van Assche wrote in "De Morgen" the following quote: "Musicwise,
this show was not to be criticized. The opposite would not only be
disrespectful, but mainly stupid. One can't tamper with rock 'n' roll's
greatest legend.

" Another news paper, "Het Nieuwsblad" wrote: "The music was more than OK.
We don't even have to write that Elvis is an outstanding, one of a kind
singer."

Interview with Priscilla Presley.

Priscilla Presley discusses her relationship with the late Elvis Presley and
her involvement with the new CBS special "Elvis by the Presleys," May 13

CBS, SONY BMG, Crown Publishers and Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. unite in
a multi-tiered effort to celebrate the life and legacy of Elvis Presley with
the television special, a movie event, a commemorative two-CD set and a
lavish book all coming in the month of May.

The following interview with Priscilla took place in Los Angeles in March 2005.

Q: How did this special come about?

PRESLEY: We had an influx of interest from a new generation of fans who are
coming into Graceland and asking a lot of questions about Elvis. Lisa Marie
and I decided to share what little we have about this incredible human so
that the younger generation can learn more about him. It's been difficult,
but the outcome has been very rewarding.

Q: Was the experience of taping the special emotional for you?

PRESLEY: It was emotional for both Lisa Marie and me. We spent many hours
compiling all the data and all the stories that are told by not just Lisa
Marie and me, but by various other members of the family. It was empowering
and emotional to relive that period of time, which we all really cherished.

Q: What will be seen in the special?

PRESLEY: We are sharing a lot of what went on at Graceland which many people
would have loved to have known about but very few got to see. So we are
really opening not only our hearts, but the doors to Graceland to share the
life that we lived together. Every year at Christmastime Lisa Marie and I go
back to Graceland and relive our memories of our lives there.

Q: Your parents talk about their feelings about your relationship with Elvis
which started when you were 14-years-old. How did your parents feel about
you dating Elvis at such a young age?

PRESLEY: Well, 1959 was a different time. My parents were very conservative
and my father was very strict. When I met Elvis, my parents were very
reluctant to allow me to date him. They share their concerns about it in the
special. My mother shares some incredible stories of what her fears were
about my relationship with Elvis.

Q: Is this the first time your parents have spoken publicly about how they
felt?

PRESLEY: They've been asked many times to be on talk shows and there were a
few books that they were asked to participate in and they have turned
everything down. People are interested in what they have to say because
there are so many misconceptions and incorrect stories out there about how
they felt at the time. Now, you get to hear it from them. You get to hear
how frightened they were, not just for me but for their whole family.

Q: Will we get to see what it was like to live with Elvis?

PRESLEY: In this special you will really get a glimpse of how close we were
and how much fun we had behind those gates and everywhere we went. We had an
entourage of people who stayed with us for many years and we truly were a
family. We lived and traveled together and we shared our problems with one
another.

Q: What home video will be seen in the special?

PRESLEY: You will see us playing on the golf cart. Elvis used to take us all
out on the golf cart and give us rides. The funniest clip is when my mother
is on the golf cart trying to hold it together and trying to keep a smile on
her face. But you can see that her eyes are huge and Elvis is laughing and
getting a big kick out of how scared she was. You get to see the little boy
in Elvis. We've all seen Elvis in movies and concerts but in these home
videos you really see the spirit of play he had.

Q: What would Elvis think about how popular he is today?

PRESLEY: I think it would be pretty overwhelming for him to see the love
that is poured out every day from his fans as well the folks who visit
Graceland and the amount of interest people have in him.

Q: Why did you decide to do this special?

PRESLEY: Because a whole new generation is interested in learning more about
Elvis. He gave us so much and he had so much talent. Younger children have
been asking and e-mailing us questions about who he was, why was he so
popular and so important to the history of music.

'Elvis- By the Presleys' book-is it money making propaganda?

I had a look at the new 'Elvis - by the Presley's' book last night.
Yes it is a nice 'coffee' table book and a lot of Elvis fans will like it.

But to be honest there aren't many new pictures in it. I would say about
70%-80% pics we have all seen before. The only pictures I hadn't seen were
Priscilla & EP on the beach back in either 1962 or 1963 when her hair is
very short.

The book is padded out with pages of pictures of Elvis's belongings. Eg, his
remote control from 1957, bottles of mineral water he had on tour, his
riding boot with the 'original' mud on it. Which is great but you start to
think is this all EPE can come with?

I do understand that so much has been printed about Elvis - so what is there
left to print? If EPE can't give the fans any new material then why re-hash
what has already been done?

The book is very biased. As many of you know I am a fan of ALL the Presleys.
But I don't understand why Priscilla's parents are quoted throughout the
book. All this does is re-perpetuate the myth on how she met Elvis, how her
parents didn't want her to go, how she was blindly in love with him, etc.
It is very consistent with Priscilla's book 'Elvis and Me.'
Of course a lot of fans question this which isn't helped by Suzanne
Finstead's book 'Child Bride.'

Overall it is a good book for 15- 20 pounds  but it is all Priscilla and her
parents driven - it is outrageous.

I know this hasn't been released in the UK but I am not sure if you guys in
the States already have it.

Note: Two books called Elvis by The Presleys, the one with the white cover
with piano and glasses is the European version.

The picture of Elvis, Priscilla and Lisa Marie  is the U.S. Version.

#1 AT RISK DUE TO FAULT?

As of Wednesday morning, Elvis Presley' latest and last release in the
re-issue of all his original UK number one' had sold 20,021 copies, compared to Tony
Christies record which had sold just 12,227.

BUT, reports state that due to a "FAULT?" there has been a problem with
downloading of the Elvis single. The Official Chart Company has put it down to 'teething
troubles'. It looks as though Elvis has not been credited with any downloads at all.

And to top that, the UK's biggest music download company, I-Tunes does not
even have Elvis' latest single available.

The fact that the Elvis release has a download "FAULT?" and that I-Tunes are
not making the track available through their site, indicates that Elvis may well
be denied the UK #1 spot.

ELVIS WINE ON WAY TO UK.

Signature Wine Cellars, Inc have announced that they are about to begin
distribution of the 'Graceland Cellars' series here in the UK.

Over the past few months, the Elvis Express has had hundreds of enquiries
regarding the Elvis wine and now this news should please many.

Signature Wines will be keeping us informed as to where the Wines will be
available from and as soon as we hear from them, we will post the news here first.

Below is a previously issued Press Release:

Elvis Rocks the Wine Charts - Hottest Small Brand of the Year
Wine Business Monthly Magazine Honors Graceland Cellars

According to a leading wine industry magazine, Elvis Presley, the King of
Rock and Roll, is fast becoming a monarch of the grape. In its latest issue, Wine
Business Monthly magazine named Graceland Cellars one of the hottest small wine
brands of the year.

The winery launched the first-ever vintages of Jailhouse Red Merlot, The
King Cabernet Sauvignon and Blue Suede Chardonnay in 2004 and quickly established
retail distribution in 40 states.  A special 4,000 case holiday release of
Blue Christmas Cabernet Sauvignon sold out within days last November.

"The response from consumers, distributors, and retailers has been
overwhelming," said Scott Cahill, CEO of Graceland Cellars' parent Signature Wines.
"There is no reason why good wine can't also be fun. The combination of high quality
wines and the Elvisâ brand has really struck a chord with consumers."

Graceland Cellars gained award-winning status last year with three medals:
The 2001 Jailhouse Red Merlot won gold and silver, respectively, at the International
Eastern Wine Competition and the Riverside International Wine Competition.  The 2001
King Cabernet Sauvignon won a bronze medal at the Dallas Morning News Wine
Competition.

The Year of Elvis With the debut of a major Broadway production based on Elvis' tunes  later
this month and the premiere of a biographical miniseries on CBS in May, Graceland
Cellars is poised for major growth as interest in all things Elvis reaches new heights.
Graceland Cellars plans to add new labels and products to the line to support existing
distributors, and will continue to expand distributor relationships. Major retail chains
currently stocking Graceland Cellars' Elvis Presley line include Kroger's,
Cost Plus, and many regional chains.

In addition to its retail line, Graceland Cellars offers the Elvis Presley
Private Collection, a selection of wines bearing unique labels featuring images of
Elvis from the estate archives.   Elvis fans can also join the Graceland Cellars Wine
Club at www.gracelandcellars.com, and have special collector's editions shipped
directly to their homes.

About Graceland Cellars Signature Wines bottled the first vintage of Elvis Presley Graceland

Here, the Elvis Express can give you a sneak peek into the new book 'ELVIS
BY THE PRESLEYS'.

Although we have not yet had the chance to read the book properly, we can
tell you that this looks to be a good read for all Elvis fans.

The book only features two blood Presley', Lisa Marie and Patsy. The other
comments all come from the Beaulieu family which are; Priscilla, Ann, Paul
and Michelle.

There are some nice little memories shared with the fans and the book also
includes many photos of Elvis' personal belongings which include ,
Aftershave, Boots, Film costumes,
Books and more.

From the first look at this book it does appear to be a good buy, but then
not everyone can be pleased.
Again at first glimpse, my only disappointment is that there is not more
unseen photos of Elvis and Lisa together.

ELVIS BY THE PRESLEYS is released in the U.S.A on May 3rd
and then released in the UK on May 5th.

22nd NUMBER ONE CALLING.

The hugely successful Elvis Presley reissue campaign is showing signs of
ending on a high note this weekend, with early retail reports putting the Kings former
#1 smash hit "A Little Less Conversation", as firm favorite for the number one placing,
with a massive 40% sales advantage over Tony Christie & Peter Kay's (Is This The
Way To) Amarillo.

Here are the top 3 chart placing' so far for this week:
01 (NE) Elvis Vs. JXL - A Little Less Converstion
02 (01) Tony Christie ft. Peter Kay - (Is This The Way To) Amarillo
03 (NE) Snoop Dogg ft. Justin Timberlake

If this release does get to #1 it will give Elvis his 22nd UK chart topper
and his 77th top 10 UK hit. The Re-release campaign started back in January 2003 and has
given Elvis an amazing 16 new top 5 hit singles, including three #1s in just the past 16
weeks.

And with new rumours of Sony/BMG looking to follow up the success with other
Elvis releases, this may not be the last time the English charts see Elvis near or
at the top.

Elvis targets number one.

Here are the first predictions for this week's UK singles chart.

Elvis Presley's reissue campaign could end on a high note this weekend, with
early retail reports suggesting his final RCA-released reissue, A Little
Less Conversation, is in the running for a number one placing, with a 40%
sales advantage over Tony Christie & Peter Kay's (Is This The Way To)
Amarillo. The Comic Relief charity track has, however, reclaimed the number
one spot from early leaders on more than one occasion in recent weeks, so
the battle for number one is likely to be a close-run fight at the week's end.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Snoop Dogg, Charlie Wilson & Justin Timberlake's
Signs (Geffen) looks set to give the rapper his biggest solo hit to date,
while Brett Anderson & Bernard Butler's Tears project enjoys a similarly
strong start, with Refugees (Independiente) vying for a top five position.
Destiny's Child (Columbia) also look certain to enter within the Top 10,
while a cluster of guitar acts - Bloc Party (Wichita), Rooster (Brightside),
Paddingtons (Poptones) and Athlete (Parlophone) compete with each other to
secure a Top 20 placing.

Summary Singles
01 (NE) Elvis Vs. JXL - A Little Less Converstion
02 (01) Tony Christie ft. Peter Kay - (Is This The Way To) Amarillo
03 (NE) Snoop Dogg ft. Justin Timberlake

Miniseries tries to dig into real Elvis.

As a new Elvis Presley miniseries arrives, two questions linger.

Who was Presley, really? Was he as great as some people say?

Who was Colonel Tom Parker? Was he as awful as many people say?

Both questions ripple through "Elvis," on CBS at 9-11 p.m. May 8 and 8-10
p.m. May 11.

Clearly, the film loves Presley. It worked with his estate; it uses his
singing voice. CBS also airs the documentary, "Elvis by the Presleys," at 8
to 10 p.m. May 13.

The film follows Presley from a penniless teen to his comeback concerts.
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers plays him as someone with dreams and body at full-throttle.

"He was in constant motion," Rhys-Meyers says. "He was fidgety; he never
stopped moving."

Parker, Presley's manager, is another matter. "He was an enigma," says Randy
Quaid, who plays him.

He shaped rock history, making all the big decisions. "Without Colonel
Parker, Elvis would have never been Elvis," Rhys-Meyers said. "He created the first real
rock star."

Still, people didn't know him.

"I sort of knew he came from a carnival background," Quaid says. "I thought
he was from the South."

He grew up in the Netherlands and left as a young man. In the United States,
he worked with carnivals and country stars -- Gene Austin, Eddy Arnold, Hank Snow.
Then he met Presley and changed everything.

His accent mixed the South and the Dutch. For Quaid, who is from Houston,
half of that was a challenge.

Rhys-Meyers had a bigger stretch. He speaks with a rich Irish accent, far
from Elvis turf

Did Elvis visit Holland?

Is it true that Elvis drove to Eindhoven, Holland, to deliver a letter from
the Colonel to his mother? Nobody says it's true, but rumours have been
flying around ever since his army days in 1958-1960. Sender of the letter
was Tom Parker, born Dries van Kuyck and raised in Breda, Holland.

During his army days, serving his country in Germany, Elvis supposedly drove
to Holland by request of Colonel Parker. The mere 'rumour" was enough to
trigger a brand new documentary that premiered on Dutch local television,
"TV Brabant", last weekend.

In the documentary, relatives of the Colonel talk about the now famous
manager, and the cameramen even found the house where Elvis may have rang
the doorbell...

Lisa Presley's painful song about Johnny Ramone.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY struggles to sing new song WHEN YOU GO live because she
wrote it as pal JOHNNY RAMONE was dying. The rocker reveals she penned the
poignant song when she learned Ramone was fighting for life in hospital
while she was on a flight from Los Angeles to New York.

She says, "He made it out of the hospital, and he lived for three more
months; but it was a really hard song to sing because I realised that it
applied to him just as much as it applied to everything else I was writing
about.

" But she relishes singing another new song, IDIOT: "That is about somebody
who I went through years of hell with before I finally just went, 'You know
what? I've just had it with your a**. I'm going to shoot you at point blank,
right between the eyes, and nail you right where I see you.' "It's just a
good 'f**k you' song."

You told me a couple of days ago  "All Shook Up"  will be the title  for the
new July 1st FTD release RCA Live Recording,  the complete midnight show
from August 26, 1969 from Las Vegas.

Well Andylon, at this moment "Äll Shook Up" is the main title... but there
is a chance we will have a subtitle later on.

Any other news I can mention for example the next CD project for Elvis on
Sony/BMG, Ernst?

No Andylon, we better keep this a secret for the moment, it will take 5-6
months before this next Sony/BMG CD project will take place.

Now I am able to continue to work on the Sun project for the coming months.

Note:

The complete midnight show from August 26, 1969 from Las Vegas.

Book takes candid look at roots of country music.

It took defeating a deep depression, 12 years and three worn-out typewriters
for Maxine Brown to pen her story of singing country music across America with
such stars as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.

With the release of "Looking Back to See: A Country Music Memoir," Brown was
thrilled to put her story about the early years of country music out in the world.

"When I held the book for the first time, well, I just stood there," she
says. "I couldn't help but cry. This is 20 years of my life. I kept saying, 'Lord, let me live to
get this book in print.' I was afraid I was going to die before it was in print."

Brown, along with younger sister Bonnie and brother Jim Ed, formed the
award-winning and chart-topping group the Browns in the 1950s and traveled the world for
the next decade or two singing pop-country hits, such as 1954's "Looking Back to
See."

"Honey, it was glamorous - all those big stars coming to the Barnyard
Frolics driving Cadillacs, and they looked so rich," recalls Brown, now 73. "My God, was I
wrong. That was putting up a front."

At the time, the Browns thought they earned really good money: $125 a day.
But Brown remembers playing shows with Presley in which he would get paid $100 a
day and have to split it with his musicians.

Music got Brown out of Arkansas and gave her the opportunity to travel to
such places as Germany and Japan, where she had corn bread and beans at a Navy
mess hall and entertained the troops. But the road wasn't always paved with
superstars and dates at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. When the group's
shine dimmed, Brown returned to Arkansas to deal with a bad marriage and raise her
children.

"I quit the business to stay home and raise my children," she says. "If I
hadn't, who knows what would have happened? If you're in show business, don't get
married and have kids. It's rough. You can't be a wife, a mother and an entertainer.
You just can't."

Brown began writing her memoirs in 1982. It took 12 long, painful years to
finish it, she says. Then she spent a decade trying to get the book published. What has
emerged is a book that candidly describes the roots of country music, how
performers didn't make much money and, she says, "how hard it was to pioneer
this business, to pave the way."

Goa is all shook up with Elvis.

The Elvis Presley craze is making a comeback in Goa, a popular tourist
destination in western India. The American singer may have died in 1977 but
his popularity lives on as a barrage of Elvis clones try to out-perform each
other. He is possibly the most impersonated rock'n'roll celebrity. Although
it's nearly three decades since he passed away, the spirit of Elvis Presley
lives on in the many performers who make great efforts to dress and sing
like him.In India's popular tourist resort of Goa, that seems to be the
newest attraction for holidaymakers. At restaurants and nightclubs, a motley
mix of chubby and middle-aged Elvis Presley look-alikes belt out hits from
the 1950s and 60s.

Jerry Reed Releases Album And Memories

As a musician, he developed his own immediately identifiable guitar style, a
feat accomplished only by Maybelle Carter, Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and a
handful of other country players. As a songwriter, he's composed more than
300 songs, including hits recorded by Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.

The normally reclusive Reed was the center of attention Tuesday (April 19)
at BMI's office in Nashville during a party celebrating the release of his
new album, Jerry Reed Live, Still!, on his own label, RIIK Records.

The album kicks off with "Guitar Man," including a brief spoken recollection
of his 1967 session with Elvis Presley. Earlier that year, Reed's own
version of the song had peaked at No. 53 on the country singles chart. He
says he wasn't nervous about recreating his signature guitar line on
Presley's session.

"I'd have been nervous if I had to do something I didn't know how to do,"
Reed says. "Elvis had heard my album cut, and he wanted it to sound like
that. His producer was an old friend of mine from Atlanta, Felton Jarvis,
who said, 'Well, you're gonna have to get Reed in here to play on it then.
He's a fingerpicker, and these guys don't have any idea what he's doing
because he does all this weird stuff anyway. He tunes them strings weird.'
So I got in there and I turned that E-string down and that B-string up and
hit that intro. I wasn't worried about playing that."

Ecstatic that Presley had recorded one of his songs, Reed was reluctant when
steel guitarist Pete Drake encouraged him to immediately pitch another song
to Presley.

"Pete and I knew each other in Atlanta, when I was working at a cotton mill
and he was driving a Merita bread truck," Reed says. "He said, 'Have you got
anything else?' I said, 'No, man. Listen, this is enough for me, believe
me.' Then Elvis said, 'Yeah, have you got any other songs?' I said, 'Well
... uh ... yeah.'"

When Reed mentioned the title, "U.S. Male," Presley said, "Let me hear it."

"So I cut down on 'U.S. Male,' and he said, 'Let's cut that thing,'" Reed
recalls. "It was that easy. Absolutely that easy. It's funny how things like
that happen."

Elvis frontpage in La DH.

The well known French speaking (Belgian) newspaper La Derničre Heure
celebrates its centennial anniversary next year. Last April 19th, 99 years
after the newspaper made its debut in Belgium, La DH presented the 100 most
important front pages in their history. Needless to say that they couldn't
pass by the August 17th 1977 edition. Front page news then was "Elvis
Presley est mort d'un défaillance cardiaque" ("Elvis Presley dies of Heart
Failure"), bringing the dramatic event of almost 28 years ago in Memphis
under the attention of their readers, once again.

ELVIS IN GERMANY EXHIBIT.

Memorabilia from Elvis Presley's days in Germany are sprinkled
through the "Elvis in Deutschland" exhibit, along with German newspapers
reporting the death of Elvis.

The King of rock 'n' roll might have left his throne to become a soldier,
but to German fans, Elvis Presley's royal stature didn't end because of a
change in rank.

Memorabilia of Presley's two years in the Army - including 17 months in
Germany - are on display through May 29 at Frankfurt's Communication Museum
along the Main riverbank.
The "Elvis in Deutschland" exhibit is a small, but informative collection of
about 300 pieces from Sgt. Presley's life as a soldier in Friedberg from
1958 to 1960.
Photos and personal items from Presley are sprinkled throughout memorabilia
of the times.

Elvis buffs can read up on how Germany's favorite GI affected their lives
and culture, with English and German explanations set up near each display
case Elvis had already produced several top
10 hits, appeared on television and in movies when he was drafted.
While in Germany, his "Elvis the Pelvis" rebel image was transformed into
that of a more wholesome all American boy with the help of the uniform.

Despite this change, local German teens were caught up in a rebellious phase
attributed to Elvis and his music.
In Germany, the slang term for these troublemaking hooligans was Halbstarken
or "half-strong."German youth embraced this image, but East German
authorities didn't like the
effect the "Western" attitude had on their youth.
According to museum information, many Halbstarken spent years in prison
for sneaking over to the West to buyrecords and watch Elvis flicks.

Among many of Elvis' personal items are uniforms, a lock of hair from an
Army and Air Force Exchange Service barbershop, an original Stars and Stripes article
with an Elvis interview, and American Forces Network memorabilia.

For 20 euro cents, a jukebox will play any Elvis tune. A running video of
Elvis' dance number from "Jailhouse Rock" plays in one exhibit, with outfits he wore
during performances displayed nearby. Near the main entrance to the exhibit, the
film "G.I. Blues" is played on a television screen.

Just before the end of his GI days, Elvis left Germany and returned to the
States, where he resumed his place as the King. But the Germans have not forgotten
his time in Friedberg, and, for the next few weeks at least, the King lives
again in Germany.

Times:
The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 7
p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Costs:
The Elvis in Deutschland exhibit is free. Museum entry costs 2 euros for
adults, 1 euro for children. There is no charge for children under 5.

Food:
The museum deli boasts "the city's best brownies" for 2 euros. There are
plenty of other pastries to choose from, as well as lunch items, such as salads and
sandwiches. A wide variety of drinks is available.

Directions:
The Museum für Kommunikation, or Communication Museum, is in downtown
Frankfurt am Main on the riverbank at 53 Schaumainkai. Exit Autobahn 5 at
exit 21 at Niederrad. Then, turn right and drive straight just over 1˝ miles. Make a
slight right onto Theodor-Stern-Kai and go straight for a half-mile. Make another slight
right onto Gartenstrasse, then a left on Stresenmannallee, and a final right on
Schaumainkai just before the river.

Information:
English tours for the Elvis in Deutschland exhibit are offered Wednesdays at
12:30 p.m. and Sundays at 4:30 p.m. Currently, the other exhibits at the museum are
"Animals Don't Lie: Facets of Animal Communication," with real stuffed
animals and interesting facts about animal and human interaction, and a showcase on
cellphone communication.

Tyler Hilton credits Elvis for early hairstyles.

One Tree Hill star Tyler Hilton credits Elvis for his childhood fixation
with looking after his hair. While the majority of the legendary rocker's
fans admire him for his music, Hilton admits Presley really made an impact
on his tresses.

He says, "Elvis is the reason I started putting product in my hair. After a
family trip to Graceland in elementary school, I wore my hair like him for
years.

"Now I just put stuff in my hair and don't wash it for a week and see what
the bed does to it. Every day my hair is different it's got its own
personality. It scares me!"

Circle G resort moves closer to development.

Plans to develop the old Circle G Ranch in Horn Lake as a golf and
entertainment mecca got a huge shot in the arm Tuesday night when the Horn Lake Board of
Aldermen approved a letter of intent to classify the property as a tourist resort.

Developer J. D. Stacy, formerly of Alpharetta, Ga., came to Horn Lake in
February 2002 with a grand plan to use the Circle G property and adjacent land to
construct a $500 million golf and entertainment resort anchored by luxury town homes.

The idea seemed to die when Stacy could not come up with the development
capital or acquire the 880 acres needed for the development.

The McLemore family owns the 155-acre Circle G Ranch, once owned by Elvis
Presley. It's where Elvis and Priscilla spent their honeymoon in 1967.

The Hugh Dancy Co. owns an adjacent tract of about 375 acres needed for the
development. President Vernon Simpson said last week his company would still
entertain a buyer, but he said no firm offers had been received for the land.

However, Horn Lake Mayor Mike Thomas said Stacy has renewed the drive to
create the resort.

"I talked with him (Tuesday) and he was very positive," Thomas said. "He
remains  committed to his conceptual plan and everything he had said was in the plan
is still in."

Asked if the Circle G Ranch Resort is closer to becoming a reality than
before, Thomas snapped, "Yes."

The ranch resort would have two championship golf courses, performing arts
theaters, two hotels, rental cottages similar to the cottage where Elvis and
Priscilla spent their honeymoon, restaurants, shops and other entertainment venues.

The action by the Board of Aldermen would allow the state to rebate sales
taxes on the property for up to 10 years to help the developer defray some of the
costs. It's the Mississippi Tourism Incentive Program adopted in 2000.

Alderman Brenda Carter, who said she did not talk with Stacy, made the
motion for the letter of intent. It was approved on a 4-0 vote with Alderman Ken
Shackleford absent.

"Basically it would allow the sales taxes to be rebated to the developer for
a set period, depending on the amount of investment involved," Carter said.

"It works out sort of like tax-increment-financing, but the city would not
have to issue any bonds for it," she said.

'Lvis' sighted 90th FTS L Flight makes traditional pilgrimage to Graceland.

"Lvis" has left the building. Eight instructor pilots from L Flight in the
90th Flying Training Squadron took a pilgrimage Tuesday to Elvis's
Graceland in Memphis, Tenn.

Tuesday's cross-country flight was two fold; fulfilling IP annual training
requirements as well as paying homage to the flight's name-sake."During
the flight there and back we satisfied our requirements for formation,
instruments, navigation and patterns and landings," said Capt. James
Barlow, L Flight commander.

The L Flight IPs who traveled to Graceland were Captain Barlow, Capt. Russ
Driggers, Capt. Francesco Mini, Capt. Daniel Brings, Capt. Michael Koenig,
Capt. Tommy Alstad, Capt. Brandon Rasmussen and 1st Lt. Ryan Typolt.

Captain Barlow explained the pilgrimage to Graceland is almost a 20-year-old
tradition for L Flight that recently took a two-year hiatus.
"I took command of the flight on Monday and thought it would be a good idea
to revitalize the tradition of the Graceland pilgrimage. It's a means to keep
IP training up and motivate the IPs at the same time," he said. "These are hard
working IPs and it's great when you can find ways to keep the momentum and
motivation going. It's easier to ride the wave from the front than the
back."

Photo: courtesy photo.

While at Graceland, the group of IPs were given the VIP-guided mansion tour
where they saw the grounds, Elvis's grave, the gold records room and many
other areas of the mansion.
"We took numerous pictures because we plan on redecorating the flight room,
through self-help and IP funding, to mirror Graceland," Captain Barlow said.

Following the tour of Graceland, the group took a shuttle to see Elvis's two
planes, the "Lisa Marie" and the "Hound Dog."
The captain further explained that the next pilgrimage to Graceland will
most likely happen in mid-September after the upcoming Euro-NATO Joint Jet
Pilot Training class graduates and before the next UPT class starts with L Flight

New TV Ads Promote Tourism To Graceland.

Graceland Launches Its First TV Ad: 'The Home Where Elvis Lives'

NOTE: Tomorrow, streaming video of the commercial spots will be added to
this article, so do come back to take a look.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, April 19, 2005 - Two 30-second television commercials
designed to attract vacationing families to Graceland to experience the
"real" Elvis Presley will air nationally beginning in late April.

It will be the first time in the history of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc.
that the company has used television advertising to promote Graceland
tourism.

The spots, created by Memphis-based Thompson & Company, feature vintage home
movies of Elvis, his family and friends. The message reminds viewers that
Elvis was a genuine, fun-loving person, not merely an icon, and people still
can visit his home in Memphis and actually see where and how he lived.

"Elvis was such an amazing entertainer that we sometimes forget there is so
much more to him than all those great songs and fabulous shows," said Mark
Robinson, executive creative director at Thompson & Company. "We wanted to
remind people that by visiting his home, Graceland, they can actually see
how he lived and really meet the man behind the legend."

The spots are tagged, "Graceland. Where Elvis Lives."

Jennifer Burgess, director of marketing at Elvis Presley Enterprises, said
the goals for the spots are to create awareness of Graceland as a prime
leisure travel destination and increase ticket sales for tours and
merchandise revenues.

"Our marketing budget is limited and traditionally we have relied on print
advertising, online marketing and the news media to communicate our tourism
marketing message," she said. "However, this year offers a unique
opportunity for us to capitalize on national television exposure around
Elvis resulting from sweeps month programming on CBS."

CBS will air two high-profile, prime-time shows about Presley during the
sweeps month of May. One program, "Elvis," is a two-part miniseries; the
other "Elvis By the Presleys," is a TV special featuring home movies,
vintage performance footage and new, intimate interviews with this former
wife, Priscilla Beaulieu Presley and their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.

"Those shows will create a significant buzz around Elvis Presley and we hope
to capitalize on this increased focus,' Burgess said. "Spring is also the
time of the year when families plan summer vacations and we want to put
Graceland on their radar screens as the perfect family destination."

Michael Thompson, chairman & CEO of Thompson & Company, said, "Working with
Elvis Presley Enterprises is an opportunity any ad agency dreams about. Our
experience in the travel and tourism industry and, sensitivity to what Elvis
means in American history, made us a blue-suede shoe-in for this account."

The Graceland spots will air via satellite on Dish Network's women-targeted
channels that include HGTV, Lifetime, Food Network, Style, Discover Home,
WE, Lifetime Movie Network, Discovery Health, DIY, Wisdom Television and
SoapNET.

Burgess said the decision to use satellite was made because "we are
targeting a very specific audience and the broad spectrum of channels
targeting this demo are well represented there. We want to reach women 25 to
54 who plan vacations for their families. Also, since our media budget is
limited, we need a cost-effective plan that will give us the best exposure
to our targeted demographic."

Initially, two 30-second spots were produced which will run piggy-backed as
a 60-second spot. Viewers will be asked to contact Graceland by phone at
1-888-ELVIS LIVES or visit tourgraceland.com.
To create the spots, Iddo Patt, broadcast producer at Thompson & Company,
estimates he spent more than two weeks reviewing home movies.
"It was the experience of a lifetime to be able to immerse myself in the
real lives of Elvis and his family," Patt said. "It was a privilege. And it
was very touching."

Some of the footage used in the two spots has never been seen by the public.

"Elvis Presley Enterprises has something no one else in the world has:
Elvis," said Patt. "When you get close to Elvis, you realize what an
inspirational person he was . . . or should I say 'is.'"

Digital Elvis commercial unlikely..but a duet with Britney?

If rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley shows up in any future digital
projects it will not likely be in a commercial, The Los Angeles Times
reports. Robert F.X. Sillerman, who recently gained control of Presley's
name, image and likeness, said he doubted Presley would appear in a car
commercial, the way the late Steve McQueen recently did. Sillerman also said
he didn't think it would be a good idea to do with Presley what was done
with the late Conway Twitty recently, when bits of Twitty's old records were
manipulated through a computer program to make it sound like he was singing
a new song. I'm not sure you're going to see Elvis in a commercial,
Sillerman said. With Elvis, less is more. George Klein, a pallbearer at
Presley's funeral who currently operates an Elvis station on Sirius
satellite radio, said he would welcome a new Elvis record. I think it's
strictly business and this is 2005, Klein said. He's been dead 27 years, and
you have to move on. Market what you got. A duet with Britney Spears or
something like that would be great.

Interview with Stanley Oberst New FT D& 2CD  book "Elvis Presley Rockin'
across Texas".

As a Texas native, I was especially interested when I learned that Stanley
Oberst was working on a new FTD book project that covered Elvis'
performances and time spent in Texas throughout his career. Many of our
members, from all over the globe, enjoyed the great stories and pictures in
Oberst's "Elvis in Texas The Undiscovered King 1954-1958".

I first contacted the author to see if he would be interested in a possible
interview by the local CBS affiliate in my hometown of Bryan/College
Station, as Elvis performed here three times in 1955.

I was overjoyed when he not only expressed a willingness to travel here for
a television interview, but offered to participate in an interview by e-mail
with our fan club.

Enjoy the information provided, and be sure to support this incredible FTD

Humes High School - The Herald.

Fifty years have passed since Elvis' high school graduation. Yet he is still
young in our hearts.
Elvis loved his alma mater and showed his appreciation on many occasions.

He purchased football tickets to a local game for the students. He donated
money for R.O.T.C. uniforms.
He unexpectedly stopped by Humes high school during Father's Night and gave
a brief performance.

In the early years Elvis would stop by the school with Hollywood friends to
visit students and his favourite teachers.
The students of Humes high school returned Elvis' cenerosity in 1957 by
dedicating that years annual to him.

The annual from 1953 (the year when Elvis graduated) was the first to be
re-printed.
ut a short while ago  the 1957  one also was reprinted.

All Shook Up Goes on the Record.

The talented company of Broadway's Elvis musical walked their blue suede
shoes down to the recording studio on April 4 to lay down tracks for the
original cast recording of All Shook Up.

This fun-loving musical, written by Joe DiPietro and featuring the hits of
Elvis Presley, tells the tale of a small-town girl who falls for a
hip-shakin,' guitar-playin' roustabout. Yes, it has classics like
"Heartbreak Hotel," "It's Now or Never," and "Jailhouse Rock.

" Belting out these Elvis favorites and rockin' the Palace Theatre are
Cheyenne Jackson, Jennifer Gambatese, Leah Hocking, Sharon Wilkins, Curtis
Holbrook, Nikki M. James and Jonathan Hadary.

Before the album release (set for May 31), Broadway.com was there to catch
the cast action! Take a look!

IT'S NO WONDER AS ELVIS HITS No:4 ON NEW UK CHART.

Photo Cover:'The Wonder Of You ' at #4 gives Elvis his 75th Top 10 UK Hit
Single.

Elvis Presley' latest single release, 'The Wonder Of You' has entered the UK
singles chart at number four this week with the introduction of counting
download sales, which many sceptics see as a way of preventing an older
artist like Elvis Presley from dominating the Pop scene.

But despite outselling the Number One record in the midweek sales, Elvis
fails to secure his 22nd UK chart topper.

Many fans also downloaded the song from official download companies, but it
appears that if you type in 'The Wonder Of You' you actually download an
album track which doesn't count towards sales, a fact which will anger many
fans.

This weeks placing gives the CHART KING his 75th UK Top 10 Hit, and his 15th
top 5 hit in as many weeks

Elvis' next single release 'Way Down' is out in the shops on Monday 18th

Here is this weeks 'Official' top 5 singles
01. (is This The Way To) Amarillo - Tony Christie Ft Peter Kay

TOP OF THE CONS.
Record Companies Threaten To Rig Singles Chart.

Photo: GET THEM OUT NOW:
The Record Industry want oldies like Elvis & Tony Christie out of the charts
as they outsell the
new acts.

Record companies have made a threat to rig the UK singles chart in order to
challenge Elvis Presley and Tony Christies continued domination of the top
2 places.

Christie has held the #1 stop for the past 4 weeks, but Elvis Presley has
dominated the #1, #2 and #3 positions for the past 16 weeks.

Today's top 40 countdown will be the first UK chart that will include
internet downloads to determine the UK singles chart positions.
Chart officials say that including downloads will give a much more accurate
representation of current musical tastes.

However, the new system is a new and easier way for the charts to be
corrupted and suggestions have been made that major record labels will "Buy
Back" their releases from retailers in order to push their artists up into
the top 10.

It is known that two companies are planning to buy other record companies
releases in bulk, in order to prove that corruption is easy. Independent
record labels are furious that they have a very limited access to download
services for their artists, while Sony/BMG, EMI, Warner Music etc and
completely represented.

One music insider said "The UK charts have been hijacked. The industry has
been embarrassed by the single releases from Elvis Presley, No-one thought
that for a 15 week period, Elvis would have outsold every major act in the
country. As a result, they want to make sure it never happens again."

Guy Holmes, co-founder of the independent trade body AIM said. "Two record
labels have called me to say that they will prove the charts can be
manipulated. They want to do this to prove a point and if someone stands up
next week and proves that they manipulated the chart, all hell will break
loose."

James Gillespie of the Official Charts Company said; "It is not easy to
manipulate the new chart system but if these record labels do manipulate the
chart, we will punish them".

Gillespie went onto say, the company could remove the record from the chart
or even ban the record company.

DOES ELVIS INSIDER MAKE OUTSIDERS OF THE FANS?

Photo: Inside or Outside with Elvis

Elvis Presley Enterprises have announced that they are changing the Elvis
Collectors Club name to Elvis Insider for the "Special" fans of the King of
Rock n Roll.

So, what makes a "Special" fan? It's easy, $29.95 for a whole 12 months.

The official language from EPE is this: As an Official Elvis Insider, you'll
know Elvis better than anyone. You'll have access to never and rarely seen
photos, artifacts, video clips and documents from the Graceland archives.
You'll be given confidential
nformation, exclusiv Just imagine being so special at Graceland that you now
get preferred pricing, discounts, advance notice of ticket sales, and more.

Members have access to a 24/7, private WebCam that looks out of Elvis's
upstairs bedroom window. And you can explore more of the Graceland archives
when each week another artifact and each month another video is added to the
online version of the Graceland archive.

But what do the fans think of this scheme by EPE, is it for the benefit of
the fans or just another money spinning idea to benefit the bank account?

Tony from Bristol thinks this: "Who the hell do EPE think they are? What
gives them the right to say anyone of us fans are not special. I like most
Elvis fans have spent thousands of pounds on Elvis over the years and now
they want even more money to show us rare pictures of our man.....If they
have this stuff then we ALL have a right to see them and not have to pay
extra to view something on a website."

Paul from Florida writes: "How can any fan refuse? Just $29.95 to be the
first fans to know exactly why Elvis In Concert will never be released on
DVD, and then we can also learn why Elvis On Tour can never be released as a
special edition. Sorry EPE but if you want my $30, then release Elvis In
Concert, release Elvis On Tour."

On the Elvis Collectors forum, fans seem to be in one voice over this latest
idea from the EPE boardroom.

"Sorry.. but I cant see many of us this side of the pond queuing up to join
another EPE rip-off" said one writer.

Respected Elvis webmaster, Jordan, from Jordans-Elvis-World highlighted the
divide that EPE have begun to create between the fans; "This is the funniest
thing I've seen all day..... All month actually. Now, I've (unfortunately)
had the pleasure of trying to access the ATM in the Graceland Plaza while it
was being set up for a "Collectors Club" meeting this past January. I kid
you not.. Every ten feet closer I'd get to the ATM some idiot would step in front of me and
ask "Are you a member?" (me, "no") "well YOU can't be in here, this is for
members ONLY". Emphasis on the capped words.

Other than that experience with the "Club", I've had none. But I could only
step away from this thinking "What a bunch of B.S.!"

Gerry from the UK wrote: "Their greed never ceases to astound and amaze me!
Furthermore they are the reason why we will have to wait years for Elvis On
our as the estate ask so much. Again their greed is astounding they actually
block priceless prime-time UK promotion again because they have to be paid
as they own the image of Elvis thus any project/video/magazine the estate
have to be satisfied first."

The general feeling amongst Elvis fans is that they are not happy with the
way this new system is being created and many are feeling that they are now
the Elvis Outsiders.

As to whether or not this EPE site will take off remains to be seen, but due
to many fans constant wanting of anything new of Elvis, we feel this will
indeed  bring in hundreds of paying customers to have the "Special"
privilege of being able to look out of Elvis' bedroom window at all those

THE WONDER OF TWO Elvis still rules the #2 spot on CDUK chart.

As the 18 week UK singles releases draw to an end, Elvis Presley' latest
single release,

It gives Elvis his 15th top 10 hit on the CD-UK chart (including 6 number
one's).

The Official UK chart is not announced until tomorrow (Sunday 17th) and with
downloads
now being counted, some critics predict Elvis will fail to enter the top 10
for the first time
since the releases started 3 months ago.

Sillerman And George Klein On Elvis Projects

If rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley shows up in any future digital
projects it will not likely be in a commercial, The Los Angeles Times
reports.

Robert F.X. Sillerman - who recently gained control of Presley's name, image
and likeness - said he doubted Presley would appear in a car commercial, the
way the late Steve McQueen recently did. Sillerman also said he didn't think
it would be a good idea to do with Presley what was done with the late
Conway Twitty recently -- when bits of Twitty's old records were manipulated
through a computer program to make it sound like he was singing a new song.
"I'm not sure you're going to see Elvis in a commercial," Sillerman said.
"With Elvis, less is more."

George Klein, a pallbearer at Presley's funeral who currently operates an
Elvis station on Sirius satellite radio, said he would welcome a new Elvis
record.

"I think it's strictly business and this is 2005," Klein said. "He's been
dead 27 years, and you have to move on. Market what you got. A duet with
Britney Spears or something like that would be great."

WHO WANTS TO BE ELVIS?

Performer and Elvis tribute artist, Ronnie McDowell is reported to be lined
up to host a new reality TV show starting in August called "Who Wants To Be Elvis".

The planned series is said to be a 26 part show and will be screened on the
CBS network.

Ronnie is a huge fan of Elvis and many fans feel that with his involvement
in the show, it will be tastefully done?

Right now, there are two versions of this "Elvis Idol" doing the rounds, one
from Elvis-A-Rama and now one from CBS.
I guess we will just have to wait and see if either of these proposed shows
actually make it onto our TV screens.

Color picture of Vernon and Gladys.

Surfing on the waves of internet, we discovered this nice picture of Elvis's
parents.
It's one of the very few color pictures in existence of Vernon and Gladys,
probably taken in the first part of the fifties.

The guy on the right is Calvin Presley, Elvis's cousin. Calvin was the
oldest son of Calhoun Presley, brother to 'granddad' Jessie Presley. It's
unclear where the picture was taken.

YOU CAN'T BE SIRIUS.

The powers that be at the Elvis station on Sirius radio have decided to pull
the plug on all requests on the show, the cool questions of the day,
conversations with the listeners, and all the other live interaction between
Doc Walker and the other DJ's and the fans!!

Elvis Radio on Sirius was like the live vibrant radio of the good old days
when you could call up a DJ and they would put you on the air or take your
request fore for this format change.

DJ's such as Doc Walker let the fans request alternate takes, or different
versions, live versions, etc. etc. Ever since this change took place, Elvis
radio has suddenly become stale and boring without the interaction with the
fans.

It simply isn't as exciting as before when the fans could call in talk and
request songs.
This was our radio station, the fans station and now many fans feel it has
been taken away from them and are now being dictated to what we will have to
listen to....just like traditional land based terrestrial radio.

If you are a listener, you can mention what you liked about Doc Walker when
he took calls and requests and put fans on the air and what you don't like
about the new format.

If you are not subscribing, but have considered it, or would like to, you
can also just send an email stating that you have heard of the change and
would prefer to have a live DJ format with live requests, etc.

To make to voice heard, send an email to docwalker@elvis.com and let him
know that you prefer a live, interactive format where fans are allowed to
request songs and talk about Elvis versus this new bland format they have
switched over to.

Elvis asked President Carter for a favour.

Q&A Report - Q. In the 1990s, former President Jimmy Carter stated that he
was one of the last people to speak with Elvis Presley before he died.

I have never heard or read anything about this. Do you have any details
about this meeting? A: What Carter told students at Emory University in
Atlanta at a recent town hall meeting was that he was one of the last people
to speak to Presley before the singer died on Aug. 16, 1977.

The conversation was by telephone, when Presley called Carter at the White
House. According to Carter biographer Douglas Brinkley, Carter's White House
Diary showed that the conversation took place between 5:18 and 5:24pm June
14, 1977.

Carter had met Presley previously, backstage at the Omni in Atlanta, when
Carter was governor of Georgia. The telephone conversation took place during
what was said to be the "roughest part" of Presley's life. In the
conversation, Presley asked Carter to pardon a sheriff friend of his in
Memphis who was in trouble. Carter explained that a person who hadn't yet
been tried or convicted could not be pardoned.

After Presley died just two months later, Carter issued an official White
House statement.
At that time, it was unheard of for a President to make an official
statement about a rock star's death.

Carter called the singer "unique, irreplaceable and a symbol the world over
of the rebelliousness and good humor of this country."

Official site for the CBS mini-series.

CBS has launched the official site: http://www.cbs.com/specials/elvis/ for
their new two-part event miniseries Elvis.
The biopic stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the late King of Rock n' Roll.
The cast includes Camryn Manheim as his beloved momma Gladys, Robert Patrick
as dad Vernon, Antonia Bernath as Elvis' wife Priscilla, Rose McGowan as
starlet Ann-Margret, and Randy Quaid as manager Col. Tom Parker.

Not all of the links on the site are fully working as of yet but the
features include a story synopsis, cast credits, videos, still photos, and a
community section.
The community section includes a sweepstakes entry, "Ask Camryn Manheim," a
pop quiz, and a poll. The logo on the site shows Rhys Meyers in moody
profile as Elvis.

This is the same image that residents of L.A. may have noticed gracing a
billboard on the side of a CBS soundstage on Beverly Boulevard.

The tagline on the Elvis billboard reads: "The legend you know. The story
you don't." As the official site reminds us, Elvis was produced with the
full cooperation and participation of the Elvis Presley Estate, thus
allowing the King's master recordings to be heard for the first time in a
biographical film.

The father of rock n roll, Johnnie Johnson, has died.

Photo: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Dinner. (AP Photo 2001/Ed Betz)

ELEANOR HALL: And before we go, a tribute to the musician some call the
father of Rock and Roll - and no it's not Chuck Berry, or Little Richard, or
Elvis Presley, it's the legendary piano player Johnnie Johnson, who died
earlier today at the age of 80.

While he was never a household name, Johnnie Johnson helped define early
rock and roll, in collaboration with guitarist Chuck Berry.

The classic Berry hit Johnny B Goode was in fact a tribute to his friend and
inspiration, Johnnie Johnson, as Alison Caldwell reports.

(Excerpt from Chuck Berry song "Johnny B Goode")

ALISON CALDWELL: It was New Years Eve in 1953 in St Louis, when Johnnie
Johnson invited a young and inexperienced Chuck Berry to fill in for a sick
band member.

It was the beginning of a crucial musical collaboration that spanned 30
years, with Johnnie Johnson on piano and Chuck Berry on guitar.

Teaming up for hits like 'Maybelline' and 'Roll Over Beethoven', Johnson
composed the music on his piano, then Berry converted it to guitar and wrote
the lyrics.

(Excerpt from Chuck Berry song "Johnny B. Goode")

Rock historian and three-time recipient of the BBC's Rock Brain of the
Universe, Glenn A. Baker.

GLENN A. BAKER: He was certainly a seminal figure. He was one of those
keyboard players, perhaps the only keyboard player who bridged that sort of
boogie-woogie, purely jazz style and took it into rock n roll.

His Sir John Trio of course launched the career of Chuck Berry, and he was
by Chuck's side for decades; it was a long and wonderful relationship, and
when you consider that Chuck basically fell out with anyone he ever actually
encountered, it's a real surprise that it lasted as long as it did.

I mean, you know, he took those things into the sort of like, you know, from
Earl "Fatha" Hines and the jazz guys, you know, Artz Hayden (phonetic) and
Mo Lewis, etc, and turn it into like a sort of more direct rock n roll
style.

Johnnie had such a great ear, too. He had a great rhythmic ear, he
understood dynamics, he understood tension and relief and build and all
those wonderful aspects of black music. And so, you know, Chuck couldn't
have had a better teacher.

ALISON CALDWELL: Later in his career Johnnie Johnson performed and recorded
with the likes of Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker and Bo
Diddley.

GLENN A. BAKER: He was still recording, and over the last decade he made
albums for, you know, for blues labels. He actually came to Australia. He
performed at the Basement.

I mean, he was still out there doing it and getting around. And I think when
you saw him you had a sense that even. let me put it this way, the British
groups were sort of like, you know, once removed from the origins of it all,
but even the people that were inspired by the British groups, who inspired
the British groups, such as Chuck Berry, they were even one step removed,
and what they were all removed from was people like Johnnie Johnson who
were, you know, the real deal, the real thing, you know, the origins of it
all, the guys who sort of understood that sort of glory of hybrid that was
there for the taking and the making.

What people like Johnnie Johnson will mean in history, when you and I are
gone, is. who knows? I mean, but you know, all we can do today is doff our
hats, if we're wearing them, and to say thank you, Johnnie, you're an
inspired band leader, inspired pianist, a great avuncular gent.

I mean, just good fun and the spirit of rock n roll is just that joyous
excitement, and Johnnie Johnson delivered that in spades. And he trained his
acolytes well.

(Excerpt from Chuck Berry song "Johnny B Goode")

ELEANOR HALL: Rock historian Glenn A. Baker on Johnnie Johnson, the Johnny
in Johnny B. Goode, who died earlier today. And Alison Caldwell prepared
that report.

Elvis By The Presley's DVD Details.

Press - release from BMG UK  "Elvis By The Presley's" DVD:

The public Elvis is well known, but the private Elvis remains a mystery.
"Elvis By The Presley's" 2-DVD set released on 23rd May 2005 will change
that. Fans are granted an unprecedented understanding of the Presley family,
with unhindered access into the archives of the Elvis Presley estate,
coupled with extensive new interviews with both Priscilla and Lisa Marie
plus rare performance footage of the King at his best. Over four and a half
hours of footage make the DVD "Elvis By The Presley's" arguably the most
revealing and poignant video portrait we will ever see of the artist as
husband, father and friend.

The program grants access to his life like a glimpse into a family album,
beginning with "Elvis: Meets Priscilla" a chance for Priscilla to recall her
story of meeting Elvis in Germany. Beautifully restored audio of Elvis
speaking is inter-cut with Priscilla as they chronicle their lives together
for the first time.

Early care free days at Graceland and In Los Angeles are painted with
fantastic home movies.

This revealing footage shows Elvis as a playful family man, building snow
men, snowmobiling, riding horses, swimming, water skiing and hamming it up
for the camera. These were perhaps the happiest times for all.

As the documentary turns a corner, Priscilla reveals the realities of a
Hollywood relationship and her efforts to win over Elvis completely,
sacrificing her own ambitions and desires for the security of their
relationship. In rare interviews, Elvis talks candidly about women and
dating and the pressure he felt to remain single for his public image. As we
watch Lisa Marie grow, she shares more and more of her earliest memories of
life at Graceland as a kid; the big southern dinners, the menagerie of pets,
the wild games, the late nights at the movie theatre, and of course, what it
was like having Elvis as a father.

"Elvis: After Dark" is a deeply moving segment featuring Lisa Marie and
Priscilla speaking about Elvis' spiralling drug use and his ultimate death.
The story of his demise has never been so poignant and heartbreaking as we
heat it told by those who were affected the most.

The final segment "Elvis: Forever" documents Elvis' legacy as it continues
to grow and in the wake of his passing other Presley's have stepped up to
the plate, proudly carrying on his name and keeping his voice in the public
ear. Elvis' daughter and grandchildren would have made him proud and the
documentary ends on a high note as we see a great future for Elvis with no
end to the success of the Presley's.

Alongside the deluxe DVD documentary are a number of special features,
including a photo gallery and two exclusive bonus chapters entitled "Elvis:
Nixon" and "Elvis: Karate".

THE KINGS FANS EAGER TO HEAR HIM SING AGAIN.

But don't expect Elvis in ads, says the man who boughta majority stake in
the rock star's estate.

If there is a dead singer with a fan base ready to hear him sing from beyond
the grave, it's Elvis Presley.

"There is, of course, only one Elvis," said Robert F.X. Sillerman, an
entertainment entrepreneur who recently gained control of Presley's name,
image and likeness.
"And I'm honored to have the responsibility of shepherding his legacy into
the Digital Age and the 21st century."

Sillerman is fresh from closing a deal valued at $100 million giving him an
85% stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, the business name of the rock star's
estate.

He said that he kept tabs on recent projects involving Conway Twitty, Steve
McQueen and others,
and they struck him as what Presley should not be doing in the afterlife.
"I'm not sure you're going to see Elvis in a commercial," Sillerman said.
"With Elvis, less is more."

Still, George Klein, who was a pallbearer at the rock star's funeral and now
is host of an Elvis station on Sirius satellite radio, said there had been recurring
chatter in
the Presley camp that the late icon's considerable film and music archives
were so
broad that much could be mined from them.

"It's been talked about and it will happen, and I don't see anything wrong
with it,"
Klein said. "I think it's strictly business and this is 2005. He's been dead
27 years,
and you have to move on. Market what you got. A duet with Britney Spears or
something like that would be great."

Fans' appetite for all things Elvis was proved not just with the recent
success of a new package of his No. 1 hits but also with the surprise smash
of an electronica reworking of his hit "A Little Less Conversation."

Sillerman said that certain celebrities became symbols not only of their art
but also of cultural currents that helped define the modern world.

"Elvis is one of those stars that really grabs hold of us," Sillerman said.
"You know, it's funny with these stars; we always talk about them in the
present tense."

Night One

Dressed in a black leather suit, a nervous 33-year-old Elvis Presley (Rhys
Meyers) is backstage preparing to sing in front of a live audience for the taping of
the "The '68 Comeback" television special.

Flashback - 18-year-old Presley lives in a small apartment in Memphis,
Tenn., with his mother Gladys (Manheim), and his father, Vernon (Patrick). Although
he is currently working as a truck driver, Presley promises that someday, when he
makes it big in the music business, he will buy his parents a Cadillac and a house.

As a teenager, Presley spends a great deal of time hanging out on Beale
Street in Memphis, listening to R&B music. He shares his dreams of becoming a famous
recording artist with his girlfriend, Dixie Locke (Jennifer Rae Westley). He
confides to her that he wants to record a song for his mother on Sun Records in the
hopes that someone will hear his singing and sign him to a recording contract.

Presley walks into Sun Studio with the beat-up guitar his mother gave him
when he was a child and tells the receptionist, Marion Keisker (Jill Jane Clements),
that he would like to record a song for his mother. He asks her to let him know if
they ever need a singer, then goes into a booth and sings "My Happiness." Record
producer Sam Phillips (Tim Guinee) is not impressed by what he hears and doesn't even
come out of the booth after Presley finishes singing. Always supportive of
her son, Presley's mother is moved to tears when she hears the song.

Presley does get a call from Sun Records that they have a song that could be
right for him. But after hearing him sing it, Phillips thinks Presley sounds
like other singers of the day. Frustrated, Presley begins to sing "That's All Right,
Mama" with a different sound. Phillips records the song, which turns into a smash hit.

October 16, 1954, Louisiana Hayride Auditorium - Presley belts out "Good
Rockin' Tonight" while perfecting his gyrations and soon the crowd is so out
of control that the promoter must announce at the end of Presley's performance
that he has left the building to avoid pandemonium. It is during one of his
performances at the Hayride that Presley first meets "Colonel" Tom Parker
(Quaid), who manages some of the biggest singing acts in town.

Parker tries to persuade Presley to make him his manager, promising that he
will get him a record deal with RCA and roles in feature films. Although Parker
doesn't Like Presley's kind of music, he believes he can make him a worldwide star
because he is a good salesman. Presley eventually signs with Parker, who
makes good on his word.

Presley's first RCA song, "Heartbreak Hotel," goes to Number One on
Billboard magazine's pop, R&B and country charts. The song goes on to sell one million
records and becomes Presley's first Gold Record.

Presley and Parker argue about playing small venues. Presley wants to play
big houses, but Parker wants lines outside of theaters because selling out shows
makes Presley look appealing. When Presley questions Parker's tactics as a
manager, he quickly tells Presley that a famous movie producer wants him to
come to Hollywood for a screen test and that he has booked Presley to perform on
"The Milton Berle Show."

Presley tests for his first film, "The Rainmaker," and is beside himself
with excitement at the prospect of working opposite Katharine Hepburn and Burt
Lancaster. He is disappointed when Parker tells him they are turning the
role down because Presley will not be the star of the film.

While in Hollywood, Presley performs "Hound Dog" on "The Milton Berle Show."
Critics pan the performance, saying that Presley's stage presence is
suggestive and vulgar. Presley worries about the bad publicity but listens to Parker,
who advises him to keep doing the gyrations because they help sell records.

Presley is told by a judge that he will be arrested if he makes lewd
movements while in Jacksonville, Fla. During a performance of "Don't Be Cruel," he is
observed by police officers. Although he is not allowed to move his hips,
Presley wiggles his pinky, still managing to make girls in the audience go wild.
Soon Southern politicians, religious leaders and radio disc jockeys are
condemning Presley's music.

Presley is brought to court after a gas station manager hits him because he
drew a large crowd of fans who wanted his autograph. The judge finds Presley to
be innocent but the incident is enough to make his mother beg him to quit
singing. Presley tells his mother that the music is stronger than he is and he could
never walk away from it. He asks her to find a home in Memphis that will give them
more privacy. She finds a home that Elvis names Graceland.

While shooting "Love Me Tender," his first movie, Presley is disappointed to
learn that he will have to sing in the film. Once again, he questions Parker's
managerial decisions and tells him that he does not want to sing in films. Parker tells
Presley to leave the managing to him and informs him that he has booked Presley on
"The Ed Sullivan Show," a show on which he has longed to appear.

Parker encourages Presley to go into the Army after he is classified 1-A
because he thinks it will help clean up his image and would be good publicity. He
tells Presley that he will be a bigger star than before when he returns from the
Army.

Night 2

In the Army, Presley is homesick and frequently calls his mother, telling
her that he fears his fans will have forgotten about him when he is discharged in two
years time.

When his mother is hospitalized with liver failure, he is granted a leave so
that he can visit her in Memphis. The night Presley goes to the hospital, Gladys
Presley dies in her sleep. At his mother's funeral, he is inconsolable and feels guilty about
his mother's death, believing that he contributed to it because he caused
her to worry about him. Afterwards, Presley tells Parker that he wants to quit the
music business because he thinks that's what his mother would want him to do. He
quickly changes his mind once Parker reminds him that he will have to pay
Parker for all commitments and obligations that he will be unable to fulfill by
quitting early.

While stationed in Germany, Presley begins taking pills to help him fall
asleep and to help him wake up. He is also introduced to opera and records "It's Now or
Never," which becomes a Number One Billboard hit.

In Germany, Presley is introduced to 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu
(Bernath), whose father is an officer in the Army. Presley and Beaulieu begin dating,
and he is warned by his father to be careful because he could go to prison for
having a sexual relationship with someone who is underage. Presley meets Beaulieu's
parents and promises to respect their daughter. When he is released from the
Army, he asks Beaulieu to remain faithful to him when he returns home, and
he promises to stay in touch with her.

Upon his return to Memphis, Presley holds a press conference in the lobby of
the airport, where he denies that he and Beaulieu are involved. He also
announces that Frank Sinatra, who condemned his music years earlier, is now embracing
Presley by hosting a television special for him.

Presley tells Parker that he wants to star in the feature film "West Side
Story," but Parker turns the role down because he believes that Presley needs to confine
himself to shooting films like "GI Blues," which make a lot of money. When
Presley questions Parker's managerial style, he is again reminded that Parker has
created his success and Presley should stick with him.

Presley persuades Beaulieu to stay with him permanently in the United States
by enrolling her in Catholic school instead of having her live with him at
Graceland. Presley is now taking large quantities of drugs, and people close to him
begin to wonder if he is becoming dependent on them.

Presley goes to Hollywood to shoot "Viva Las Vegas" with Ann-Margret
(McGowan) and they begin an affair. When Beaulieu questions Presley about rumors of
his infidelity, he denies them. Parker doesn't like Presley's relationship with
the actress and tries to put a stop to it by telling Presley that it would look
bad for him to toss Beaulieu aside after he moved her to the United States with the
promise of marriage. Presley ends the affair only after a magazine quotes Ann-Margret
as saying that she and Presley are engaged, which is untrue. When Presley
confronts Ann-Margret about the item, she accuses Parker of planting the
story.

April 1964 -The Beatles begin to outsell Presley's records, but he is still
earning a good living and is very generous to those around him. Parker and Presley's
father warn Presley that he is spending too much money and ask him to stop giving
gifts to his friends. Presley's father also tells him that he thinks he is taking
too many pills and asks him to stop. Presley tells his father to mind his own
business.

Presley becomes interested in religion and metaphysics, though he continues
to use drugs. Parker warns him to get his life together and finally marry
Beaulieu, who is now of legal age.

Presley and Beaulieu are married in a hotel in Las Vegas. Parker makes the
arrangements for the ceremony and holds a press conference after the
wedding. Nine months after Presley and Beaulieu are married, Presley's only child,
Lisa Marie, is born.

February 1968 - In an effort to revitalize Presley's career, Parker makes a
deal with NBC for a Christmas special and introduces him to producer Steve Binder
(Jack Noseworthy). The plan is to tape the special over three days in front
of a live audience. Backstage in his dressing room, Presley has a case of stage fright
and tells Binder that he cannot go on stage and sing. Binder convinces him to go
out in front of the audience, where he sings "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" and feels the
passion he once had for singing return. The audience roars, there's a fire in his
eyes - the King is back!

Backstage, Presley and Parker argue over the songs that will be performed in
the special. For once, Presley stands up to Parker and says that he won't sing
another song he doesn't believe in or appear in a movie he doesn't care
about.

After a heated exchange, Presley fires Parker, but Parker won't go away that
easily. He tells Presley that he will have to pay back the money Parker has
advanced him, as well as future earnings from movie profits and residuals
from his records. Presley realizes that there's no way out and must keep Parker as
his manager. Parker tells Presley that he has signed him to do another film and
wants him to do concerts in Las Vegas. A disheartened Presley returns to the set
to sing the heartfelt "If I Can Dream."

Presley never went on tour overseas. He played Las Vegas and one-night
stands for the rest of his career. Elvis and Priscilla Presley divorced in October,
1973. Presley died at Graceland on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42. Colonel
Parker died in 1997, having gambled away most of the fortune he earned from
managing Presley. Posthumously, Presley is more popular than ever and is consistently
recognized as one of the most significant icons of pop culture.

Elvis in Aloha.

The Dutch monthly magazine "Aloha", known for its Elvis articles, focuses on
the army days (1958-1960). Author Patrick Oxesner begins his article in this
month's magazine like this: "In the two years that Elvis Presley traded
Colonel Parker for Uncle Sam, his life changed. He lost his mother, his
rebellion and the competition. He found his friends, his drugs and his wife.
A portrait of a time where the King had the chance to be human again." Be
sure to take a close look at the picture. As far as we know, it's the first
time that this well-known picture is published in its entirety, from corner

LAMAR FIKE UPDATE.

Direct from those closest to him, we have had news that Lamar Fike is doing
well after medical investigations show that he is suffering from
Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, which is categorised as a type "B" cancer.

This type of cancer can be cured and reports say that Lamar is very upbeat
about his prognosis.

Lamar would like everyone to know that he is simply overwhelmed by the many
messages of love and support that has been passed onto him from Elvis' fans,
friends and family.

Lymphoma is a form of cancer -- a disease of the body's cells.
Normal, healthy cells grow, divide and replace themselves in an orderly
manner.
When cancer is present, the cells grow abnormally and may continue to
grow out of control, forming too much tissue -- a tumor.

Lamar would like to let everyone know that he has every intention of
beating this illness.

We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. We will keep you informed of
any news regarding Lamar's battle.

Lamar Fike, Elvis' friend, in hospital.

Lamar Fike, Elvis' friend and member of "The Memphis Mafia", has recently
been hospitalised and is undergoing tests for suspected lymphoma. If
correctly diagnosed Fike will begin treatment immediately since lymphoma is
often curable if identified at an early stage. Lamar Fike really was a
larger-than-life figure amongst Elvis'

friends, to the extent that Elvis even paid for him to have an intestinal
bypass. In a similar act of generosity Elvis also paid for a kidney
transplant for his friend & producer Felton Jarvis when he became ill in
1970.

Lamar Fike is often berated for working with Albert Goldman on his vitriolic
& dishonest biography of Elvis however, he has always said that Goldman
misled him - which does seem highly likely. On a positive note Lamar Fike
was a good friend to Elvis, often helping to keep Elvis' spirits up by
playing the role of court-jester. Fike also brought several great songs to
Elvis for him to record when working for Hill & Range publishers.
These included, 'Wearin' That Loved On Look', 'Inherit The Wind' & 'Kentucky
Rain'.

Presley has no idea why tabloids like her.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY fails to understand why she's been a tabloid target for
so many years. The LIGHTS OUT singer, daughter of ELVIS PRESLEY, endured a
drug problem as a teen and has had three very public marriages including
headline-grabbing unions with NICOLAS CAGE and eccentric singer MICHAEL
JACKSON - but she can't see why her private activities would be vaguely
interesting to the public. She says, "The tabloids like me. I don't know
what their deal is with me, I really don't. And I also never realised how
many people read them and how big of a circulation they have. "People read
and they believe these things. That's why they're doing what they do, and I
am some source of interest to them. I don't know why."

Erns Jorgensen  talks about new CD for the soundtrack to Elvis by the
Presleys.

Sony/BMG plans May 3 for the soundtrack to Elvis by the Presleys, a two-hour
CBS-TV special on Elvis Presley's life slated to air in May. The TV special
will have plenty of Elvis music, but the highlight will be ex-wife Priscilla
and daughter Lisa Marie telling their stories throughout the show. The
soundtrack CD will consist of one primary 24-track disc with material
ranging from the expected ("Heartbreak Hotel," "In the Ghetto") to
less-famous ("I'll Hold You in My Heart," "Got a Lot O' Livin' to Do!"). A
second bonus disc features eight rarities, some of which were outlined for
ICE by album co-producer Ernst Mikael Jorgensen:

"It Wouldn't Be the Same Without You" (1954) - "We don't have any
unreleased [Sun] demos with Elvis," Jorgensen says, "but we have this one
which was only used once. We wanted to show what Elvis sounded like before
anybody, even Sam Phillips, knew him."

"Jailhouse Rock" (1957) - "We hear him do the first five takes of
'Jailhouse Rock,' how he builds that song." In Duophonic stereo, with four
of the five takes perviously unreleased.

"You'll Be Gone" (1962) - "A song that Elvis wrote with Red West and
Charlie Hodge. Their initial idea was to re-do 'Begin the Beguine' with new
lyrics, but Cole Porter didn't grant them permission. So the guys decided,
'Let's just change the chords around a bit and create a new song.' The
reason we've included it is because it's the last time Elvis ever wrote a
song.

"Too Much Monkey Business" (1968) - "We hear him goof around in the studio
with Jerry Reed, totally enjoying it, semi-jamming on the song before they
get a real take done. It's the same session that produced 'U.S. Male,' and
they're running out of repertoire, so they start doing this [Chuck Berry]
song. They're just having fun, with Elvis going off, singing small pieces of
other songs. Elvis's mannerisms completely take over, because he knows it's
not the final take, that they're still 'getting there.' So it's very
charming."

"Baby What You Want Me to Do" (1973) - "We've acquired two recordings of
Elvis just sitting at the home of friends. He's sitting there in somebody's
living room, playing this Jimmy Reed song, with just a guitar."

There's more release news in the pipeline for Elvis fanatics. Jorgensen
oversees and produces the Follow That Dream series of special Elvis releases
that are sold only through Graceland, the fan club and very selected
outlets. The series presents live concerts, studio outtakes and expanded
versions of Elvis albums that are deemed too specialty-
driven for the normal marketplace - a "legal bootleg series," if you will.
The series is up to about 40 titles at this point.

Sony Group Takes Control of Storied MGM Studio.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. on Friday said Sony Corp
(SNE.N). and a group of partners have completed their $3 billion cash
acquisition of the venerable film studio that was a centerpiece of
Hollywood's golden age of movie musicals.

Sony Pictures, the movie and television wing of Sony Corp., will assume
distribution of MGM's library of some 4,000 movies and 10,000 TV shows,
which was a key factor in making the deal. The investor group will repackage
old movie titles like MGM's James Bond movies to cash in on new digital
technologies.

The MGM library adds to Sony's catalog of some 3,500 movies and 35,000 TV
shows.

MGM remains actively operating and based in Los Angeles. It will continue to
produce television programs and co-produce movies with Sony Pictures.

Its operations will be run by President Dan Taylor, who was formerly the
chief financial officer of MGM. He will report to a board which includes
executives at Sony and its investment group, Providence Equity Partners,
Texas Pacific Group, DLJ Merchant Banking Partners and Comcast Corp.

MGM currently employs about 1,400 people worldwide, and while Taylor and his
new managers and owners work out details of a new structure, no widespread
layoffs will occur, said a company spokeswoman.

Under a merger deal approved by MGM shareholders last December, the Sony-led
group agreed to $12 cash per share, plus the assumption about $1.8 billion
in debt, for the company that was controlled by billionaire investor Kirk
Kerkorian.

The dealmaker Kerkorian had owned the company three times in its 80-year
history which saw the studio produce some classics like "Gone with the Wind"
and "The Wizard of Oz." Those movies are not part of the current MGM
library.

Joining Taylor in running the company under its new owners will be Charles
Cohen, executive vice president, who has been with MGM since 1997.

The company's television distribution group will be run by Jim Packer. It's
home entertainment division will be run by Blake Thomas, and its MGM
Networks unit will be headed by Bruce Tuchman, and consumer products will be
overseen by Travis Rutherford.

MGM shares closed at $11.99 on Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.

Elvis clones revive singer's popularity in Goa.

The Elvis Presley craze is making a comeback in Goa, a popular tourist
destination in western India. The American singer may have died in 1977 but
his popularity lives on as a barrage of Elvis clones try to out-perform each
other. He is possibly the most impersonated rock 'n roll celebrity. Although
it's nearly three decades since he passed on, the spirit of Elvis Presley
lives on in the many performers who make great efforts to dress and sing
like him. In India's popular tourist resort of Goa, that seems to be the
newest attraction for holidaymakers.

At restaurants and nightclubs, a motley mix of chubby and middle-aged Elvis
Presley look-alikes belt out hits from the 1950s and 60s. There is
'Surrender', 'One Night', 'All Shook Up' and more. And the tourists love it.
Elaine, Tourist from England, said: "The guy who is first can really sing
like Elvis so well. It was so sexy when he sang and he can swivel his hips
and all so authentically when he sang. It's wonderful to see." While some
performances can only be described as sloppy, many are simply humorous.
Either way, this magic has spelt a new boom for the tourism industry in Goa
and new profits for the Elvis-clone employers. Rakesh Mathur, Nightclub
Owner, Goa, said:

"The response is very good. There is no place to sit. People are shouting at
me. I don't know how to cope with it now." The thrill of vintage Presley
with a strong Indianised flavour is a recipe that is certainly making a
splash with tourists there, adding a new twist to the traditional Indian
attractions of cultural diversity and ancient civilisations.

Elvis CBS Series Website.

CBS has launched the official site for their new two-part event miniseries
Elvis.

This is the same image that residents of L.A. may have
noticed gracing a billboard on the side of a CBS soundstage on Beverly
Boulevard. The tagline on the Elvis billboard reads: "The legend you know.
The story you don't."

As the official site reminds us, Elvis was produced with the full
cooperation and participation of the Elvis Presley Estate, thus allowing the
King's master recordings to be heard for the first time in a biographical
film. The series will be first aired on CBS starting May 8.

Press Release For Upcoming Sonny West Book.

Sonny West and Marshall Terrill have surpassed the halfway mark with their
new book on Elvis Presley called, "Still Taking Care of Business."

The collaboration, which started in 2002, is the follow-up to the 1977 book
"Elvis: What Happened?" Terrill said he's already written approximately 400
pages and suspects that number could double by the time he's finished.

Currently, he's working on a chapter called "Meet the Beatles," about
Presley's historic rock 'n' roll summit with the Fab Four in 1965. Terrill
expects to finish the first draft of the manuscript by summer 2005.

"The trend these days is to write smaller books in the 200 to 250-page
range, but we want Elvis fans to feel as if though they are getting their
money's worth," Terrill said. "I think once we're finished, people will be
very surprised with the tone and the depth of the book, and get a better
understanding of Sonny's true feelings for Elvis."

The new book will cover West's 16 years with Elvis Presley from 1960 to
1976, the aftermath of "Elvis: What Happened?" to his thoughts today on
Elvis, Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley.
The book will feature several stories and anecdotes that have never been
told before and will include many never seen before photos from West's
personal collection as well as photos donated from the Russ Howe Collection.
The book will also include a section on former Memphis Mafia members called
"Where Are They Now?" and an additional appendix called "The 100 Most Asked
Questions about Elvis" in which West answers questions directly from Presley
followers.

"I am very happy with the way this book is turning out and I'm taking my
time to make sure all the facts are correct, and that it's being told in the
way that I want to tell it," West said.

"This book is a labor of love and is dedicated to a man I loved like a
brother. My co-author Marshall Terrill and I are very much on the same page
when it comes to this project." Terrill is the author of eight books,
including the 1993 best-seller, "Steve McQueen: Portrait of An American
Rebel" and "Sergeant Presley." His latest project, a definitive biography on
basketball legend "Pistol" Pete Maravich, will be released in 2006.

The authors have enlisted veteran literary agent Tony Seidl of New
York-based TD Media, who will shop the manuscript once it is finished and
fully edited. Seidl, who has sold more than 150 books, specializes in
celebrity biographies and autobiographies. He has brokered book and movie
deals on subjects such as Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Eddie Fisher, Pete
Maravich, Larry Holmes and Joe Frazier.

Terrill is seeking questions from Elvis fans for "The 100 Most Asked
Questions about Elvis" at marshzoe@aol.com.

THE WONDER OF YOU  VINYL QUESTION ANSWERED.

Photo: 10 Inch Vinyl.

Since the start of the 18#1 releases in january, we have had many e-mails
asking if we knew what the package design would be for the 2 number ones
from the 1970's.

Although we always answered that Sony/BMG "Should" issue them in the
green and white sleeves and the orange label, we could never be 100%
certain.....We all know BMG!!!???

Well, now we can confirm that this willbe the case as you can see by the
picture above.

"The Wonder of You" is released in the UK on Monday 11th April.

For Professional Bands/Singers Who Specialize In Performing Elvis Music
Without Impersonation.

Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) is frequently contacted by bands and singers
who specialize in performing from Elvis's musical repertoire. The calls, the
e-mails, demo tape shipments, etc. land in various departments here,
depending upon how the performers choose to attempt contact. These
performers are interested in participating in our Elvis Week events, Elvis
Birthday events and other activities. And EPE is certainly interested in
knowing about all these non impersonator bands and singers so that, when it
comes time to plan events requiring Elvis music performed live, our event
organizers can have a resource library of current demo material and contact
information. We now have put a system in place for bands and singers to make
themselves known to EPE and to get their information and demo materials into
a centralized file accessible by the various EPE staff who plan events.

If you have a band, or if you are a singer, specializing in Elvis music
without impersonating Elvis, we invite you to send, via e-mail or snail
mail, your current information, Web address and/or demo materials to EPE.
Contact info:

Graceland/Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc.
Attn: Elvis Bandbox
3734 Elvis Presley Boulevard
Memphis, TN 38116

Email: ElvisBandbox@elvis.com

This is NOT A CALL FOR AUDITIONS OR BOOKINGS. This is simply our means of
gathering and organizing information about great performers of Elvis music
and to give these performers "go to" information for when they want to be in
touch with EPE with their current information and demo material. By
communicating through Elvis Bandbox, you automatically reach all EPE staff
who plan events and handle any entertaiment bookings. Performers are invited
to keep EPE on their regular mailing list for updated material shipments.

If you are not a performer but an Elvis fan who has favorite bands or
singers to recommend, please do alert those performers to this communication
system.

This article also is also posted in our Frequently Asked Questions section,
where it will remain after the posting in News is put in News Archive or
deleted.

EPE DISPUTE LOST SONG.

Elvis Presley Enterprises, the business arm of the Kings estate have
publicly stated that there is nothing to indicate that there is any truth in the
claim that the song "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses" which was co-written by Elvis
Presley.

An EPE spokesperson said; "The first we'd ever heard of this was when the
song was listed on eBay. We have not found anything to indicate there's any
truth to what is being said about it. No, we do not have ownership in it."

Chris Davidson, owner of the Elvis-A-Rama museum in Las Vegas, bought the
rights to the song on E-bay for several thousand pounds and announced that
he was Looking to consummate an agreement with a production company for a
multi-episode reality TV show to find the worlds best Elvis voice and the
winner will be awarded with a contract to record a song reportedly written
by Elvis Presley.

This latest claim by the Kings estate will undoubtedly put any of those
plans into turmoil.

One thing that is known is that a song which was published in 1973 would
have be registered under all of the songwriters' names through BMI or ASCAP in
the United States.

This information is easily available to music scholars like Ernst Jorgensen
and BMG. If Elvis had indeed co-written a song back in 1973, one has to ask why
this information has not been available in the numerous and detailed
discographies until now?

Corbis Buys Agency That Still Represents Elvis.

Corbis, founded in 1989 by Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, the second biggest
provider of archived news and advertising images, said yesterday it had
acquired Roger Richman Agency, a licensing firm specialising in dead
personalities including Elvis Presley, who reportedly still earns $40m
(Ł21m) a year. It also represents Albert Einstein, the Marx brothers and
Steve McQueen.

Demand for the use of dead celebrities has been on the rise, Corbis said.
"It is an extremely attractive proposition for advertisers to tell a story
using the strong emotive qualities of a famous personality or icon," Mr
Shenk added.

According to Forbes magazine, Elvis Presley is the highest-paid dead
celebrity with annual earnings of $40m, followed by Charles Schulz, the
creator of the Peanuts comic strip, JRR Tolkien and John Lennon. Roger
Richman, who began the business 27 years ago, will stay on as a consultant
to help integrate the company.

EPE BOARDROOM NIGHTMARE PRESLEY AND MOTHER IN BOARDROOM SQUABBLE!!!

LISA MARIE PRESLEY and her mother  Priscilla (Ex-Wife of Elvis Presley),
have been revealed as boardroom nightmares whenever they're together at meetings
involving the Kings estate, because they spend a large percentage of
important business meetings squabbling with each other.

Since merging Elvis Presley Enterprises with Sports Entertainment
Enterprises, Inc.,the Mother and Daughter have participated in a number of meetings regarding
the future of the Kings legacy and in one of these meetings the whole thing was
overshadowed with a dispute regarding the position of a chair!

This particular meeting was held in New York, Lisa Marie says, "We were in
our business meeting with this guy (Sillerman) three months ago in New York. ]
It was a  six-hour meeting so I'm sitting in the same position the entire time.

Now my mom decides to scoot back and now all of a sudden she can't see him.
So she hits me and she's like, 'Can you move?' And I was like, 'What? Why are you yelling at
me? I'm sitting in the same position and you're telling me to move?' She's like,
'We can't see! Will you move out of the way?'
And I'm going, 'But you moved! I'mm sitting here like this the whole time!"

According to sources, this is the kind of things that are happening in the
business meetings right now which involve the pair.

ELVIS - 1st, 2nd & 4ever.

An Essential Import VCD For Any Fans Collection
We had a surprise item come through our door this
week, it is the latest import VCD release which is
titled, "Elvis - 1st, 2nd & 4ever" issued from a
company by the name 'Star Productions'.

Before I go on with this review, I must state that we
DO NOT sell this or any other bootleg DVD / CD
and we DO NOT know where to obtain these so
please don't waste your time by asking! The best
place to find these kind of releases is Ebay.

This VCD is simply a music video compilation to
compliment the 30#1 hits and 2nd To None albums
plus some bonus tracks.

The content is huge and is worth any fan grabbing if
they find it. Several of the music videos are simply
the original footage with the songs overdubbed.

But what makes this worthwhile is the time and effort
given to videos like 'The Elvis Medley', 'Love Me
Tender', 'Jailhouse Rock', 'Little Sister', 'Burning
Love' etc.

The video for the JXL remix 'A Little Less
Conversation' is a master piece and puts the official
version to shame.

Unfortunately, there are some UK #1s missing, such
as a music video for 'Are You Lonesome Tonight',
'Devil In Disguise' and 'Crying In The Chapel', which
is a shame but doesn't detract from the highly
entertaining content.

If you do get a chance to grab a copy of this VCD
then I would encourage you to do so.

Also on this release is a trailer for forthcoming VCD
release called "Hard To Get" and if the producers
decide to send us a copy we will review this for you

Fight breaks out at Presley gig.

Lisa Marie Presley's recent California concert erupted into chaos, after a
frisky man sparked a huge fight in the crowd. The Lights Out singer was
performing at Anaheim's House of Blues late last month and wasn't sure what
to do when she saw the melee break out as she entertained the crowd. She
says, "It was song two and I always thought (before this), 'I'll stop the
show and say knock if off, because I don't like that.' "Then I realised if
you do that, the whole place will get involved so it's not a good idea. It
was not fun. Some guy grabbed the wrong girl's butt."

Unrecorded Elvis 'Roses' Song Surfaces: Search Is on for New 'King' to
Record It.

Press Release:

"Elvis-A-Rama Museum Acquires 50% Rights to Song, Announces International
Contest for World's Best Impersonator"

When a song written by Elvis Presley, which was never released by the King,
surfaced last month at auction on eBay, Chris Davidson, an owner and founder
of the world's largest Elvis museum experience outside of Graceland, with $6
million worth of memorabilia, knew he had to have it.

Davidson, 40, who opened the Elvis-A-Rama Experience in Las Vegas more than
five years ago, has announced a world wide search for someone to fill
Elvis's blue suede shoes.

"We're looking for the world's best Elvis impersonator to record the song,"
said Davidson. "We hope to consummate an agreement with a production company
for a multi-episode reality TV show."

"If I'd Only Bought Her Roses" is the only song co-written by Elvis and Paul
Terry King, an association that dates back to the late 60s, at American
Sound Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. Elvis recorded his last number one hit,
"Suspicious Minds," there in 1969.

"Roses," registered in 1973 with BMI, appears to have been inspired by the
lost love that both artists were experiencing in their personal lives at the
time.

Elvis was freshly wounded from his divorce from child-bride Priscilla
Beaulieu, an event made official in October 1973. The song was never
recorded. According to sources, Elvis considered it "too personal and
painful," at the time.

The song is a bittersweet ballad of lost love and regret. "We would like to
have the song recorded at one of Elvis's old haunts, either historic Sun
Records Studios or the old RCA Radio Recorder's Studio. We intend to put
much effort behind the song to make it a national hit and the project has
already elicited national media interest," said Davidson.

The song is unique in that Elvis is credited for very few songs as a
composer/songwriter. It is our intention for the song to be released on the
50th Anniversary of Elvis's first Gold Record, Heartbreak Hotel, which was
released in January 1956.

The Elvis-A-Rama Museum is in the process of creating an international
contest for the impersonators with tryouts likely to be held in Sydney,
Frankfurt, Tokyo, London, New York, Los Angeles and Memphis as prime
locations. Final selection will take place in Las Vegas, where the winner
will appear in an engagement at the Elvis-A-Rama Experience.

Impersonators will be judged in three categories: vocal talent, appearance,
and stage presence. "Roses" is currently jointly owned by Elvis-A-Rama and
Elvis Presley Enterprises. A majority interest (85%) in EPE was recently
purchased by Robert Sillerman of (CKX), Inc.

Elvis Presley, Song of the Week, Played As Tribute to Pope Paul 11.

The song, "Crying in the Chapel", by Elvis Presley, a million selling hit
single in 1965 was re-released on a single CD, 4th April 2005.

It was played on LM FM Radio Ireland as a tribute to Pope Paul on 5th April.

Many people will be surprised to hear an Elvis Gospel song hit the number
one spot in the music charts, at the height of The Beatles success.

Elvis fans are now requesting the beautiful song should be played on radio
stations world-wide as a special tribute to the late, Pope Paul 11.

The song will no doubt follow the string of recent Elvis hits on the
official British music chart announced on BBC Radio 1, broadcast on Sunday
evening.

ELVIS CLONES ATTEMPT RECORD.

It will be hard not to step on some Blue Suede Shoes later this month when
Selfridges attempts to set the world record for Elvis impersonators
performing at one venue.

The Oxford Street department store hopes to attract more than 100 Elvises to
perform Love Me Tender in full costume, in tune and in harmony, on Sunday 17
April.

There is currently no record for a mass Elvis show but the Guinness Book of
Records has agreed to reognise it as a new category.

The record attempt will also take the form of a talent contest, with the
best Presley in line for prizes including the chance to perform at a major
Las Vegas casino.

Other would-be Hound Dogs should call Gerry Cottle Jr on 020 7404 3000, or
turn up at Selfridges at 9.30am on 17 April, in their own costumes and with
the words to Love Me Tender memorised.

Unrecorded Elvis Song To Be Recorded By Impersonator

The song "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses", apparently co-written by Elvis
Presley, surfaced last month at auction on eBay and was bought by Chris
Davidson from the Elvis-A-Rama museum.

More Information : http://elvisarama.com/info.htm

The song, a bittersweet ballad of lost love and regret, was never recorded
by Elvis, according to sources Elvis considered it "too personal and
painful," at the time.

"We're looking for the world's best Elvis impersonator to record the song,"
said Davidson. "We hope to consummate an agreement with a production company
for a multi-episode reality TV show. The Elvis-A-Rama Museum is in the
process of creating an international contest for the impersonators with
tryouts likely to be held in Sydney, Frankfurt, Tokyo, London, New York, Los
Angeles and Memphis as prime locations. Final selection will take place in
Las Vegas.

Inside Graceland Elvis' Maid Remembers.

Description:

If you wanted a picture of the life of Elvis Presley, who better to paint it
for you than someone who worked as his trusted cook and maid at Graceland?
Someone whose daily tasks centered around keeping the 'King of Rock & Roll'
happy, whose every move was designed to please the greatest music legend the
entertainment world has ever known. Here is that picture, as painted by
Nancy Rooks. Nancy worked for Elvis from 1967 until his untimely death in
1977. Read her stories of what those years were like, of what the routines
were at Graceland, and what it meant to be close to Elvis and his family on
a daily basis. Read the sad account of her rushing upstairs, after a frantic
call from Ginger Alden, and finding him on the bathroom floor. This book
presents that picture, one that every Elvis fan will want to see.

Lisa Marie debuts latest CD.

When it comes to performing, Lisa Marie Presley concedes that she's not a
chip off the old block. Elvis' daughter tells the San Francisco Chronicle
that, unlike dear old dad, she wasn't born to rock. "When I first started
playing live, there were some natural elements, but my discomfort level
tipped the scale," says Presley, 37, whose second CD, "What Now," is due out
today.

"The thing with me is, I'm not vain and I don't want attention on me. But
you need to be front and center onstage. You have to want attention, and I
had to really find my way with being OK with that.

" Her new CD features a collaboration with Pink and a cover of Don Henley's
'80s hit "Dirty Laundry." Her debut album, "To Whom It May Concern," was
released in 2003.

"There's not a large market for this kind of music on the radio going on
right now. ... So I don't know. Last time, I was pushed into the Top 40
thing, and that's not my demographic.
I think that was a mistake."

'All Shook Up' Troupers Record Cast Album.

The company of Broadway's All Shook Up enters a recording studio April 4 to
preserve the collection of Elvis songs that make up its score. The songs in
the musical were made famous by Elvis, but represent many composers and
lyricists.

The new cast album from Sony BMG Strategic Marketing Group is expected in
stores May 31. Stephen Oremus is the show's musical supervisor and arranger
and is as much a star on the recording - and in the theatre - as Cheyenne
Jackson and Jenn Gambatese. Oremus brings jazz, blues, rockabilly, rock and
gospel flavors into the Christopher Ashley-directed production.

Jackson is a leather-jacketed stranger who shakes up a square town in 1955,
and Gambatese is a tomboy mechanic who falls for him in the original story
by Joe DiPietro.

The score includes "Heartbreak Hotel," "Burning Love," "Love Me Tender,"
"Can't Help Falling in Love," "Jailhouse Rock," "Blue Suede Shoes," "A
Little Less Conversation," "Hound Dog," "Don't Be Cruel" and more. All Shook
Up continues at the Palace Theatre on Broadway.

Lisa and Priscilla on Oprah show.

Last week, Lisa Maria and Priscilla made their 'debut' on the Oprah Winfrey
show. It was the very first double interview that the two Presley ladies
gave. Of course, Oprah had her typical mother/daughter questions ready, but
in the course of 50 minutes she also painted a portrait of the modern life
of the Presley heirs.

Other subjects the ladies talked about, were Elvis's fans, the merging of
Graceland, Lisa's music, the pre arranged marriage to Michael Jackson,
Priscilla's grand children, ...

One day prior to the mother/daughter interview, Oprah talked to Lisa Marie
alone.

ANOTHER RECORD BROKEN BY THE KING.

As of 'Devil In Disguise' Elvis now becomes the artist to have the most
consecutive chart singles ever in one year in the UK. This breaks the record
held by The Wedding Present in 1992 who had twelve singles in twelve
consecutive months. By the end of this campaign, Elvis will also break his
own record of 14 chart singles in one year.

The current campaign has so far yielded 3 No.1's; 6 No.2's; 3 No.3's and one

High price of second-hand Elvis books update.

Our news item on 31 March about the soaring price of second-hand Elvis books
available from dealers sparked a number of comments. Most people drew
attention to the old adage "it pays to shop around"! And they are certainly
right. The anomaly in prices between book dealers and prices on eBay can be
astronomical. One example, The Films of Elvis Presley by Susan Doll from can
be bought at a very reasonable price on eBay while Books In Books Out in
California lists it at a whopping US$1468.00!.

HOWARD BRAUNSTEIN Executive Producer of the CBS Mini-Series ELVIS.

Click Here to hear Joanna's interview (or download) with Howard Braunstein :
http://ladyluckmusic.com/radio/interviews/cbs/

This month's live interview is with Howard Braunstein, executive producer of
the upcoming CBS mini-series ELVIS, which will air during the week of May 8
(details below).

When asked, "Are you an Elvis fan?" Howard enthusiastically answers, "I am
now, that's for sure!" and, as the interview progresses, we can clearly hear
Howard's genuine admiration for Elvis Presley and his excitement about the
upcoming TV movie which has been produced with loving care and attention to
detail.

Howard tells us that he and his producing partner wanted to produce an
authentic movie about Elvis, but felt that without the co-operation and
participation of the Presley Estate it would not be as authentic as they
could make it.

Knowing that the show is, and will be, under the close scrutiny of Elvis
fans, they have done very careful and thorough research over the past year.
They have worked with the Estate and have gained access to archival material
in storage, to Elvis' master recordings which can be heard throughout the
movie, and they were able to film at Graceland. They have also consulted
many other people and have spoken to many of Elvis' friends and to the
"Memphis Mafia" members. As Howard says, with award-winning movies such as
"Ray" (about Ray Charles) and other movies of that kind, people have come to
expect high quality and they knew they had to deliver.

When asked about the casting (among others: Camryn Manheim as Gladys
Presley, Robert Patrick as Vernon Presley, Randy Quaid as Col. Tom Parker,
Rose McGowan as Ann Margret), Howard agrees with Joanna's remark that it is
easy to visualize the actors in those roles, and he says that he was
involved in every aspect of the casting.

And when asked about the process of casting the lead role of Elvis -- and
the selection of actor Jonathon Rhys Myers -- Howard elaborates further. He
and his producers had previously watched the movie "Bending Like Beckham" in
which Jonathon starred, and felt strongly that Jonathon had just what it was
they were looking for and "was Elvis." However, Jonathon was signed for
another project at the time and wasn't available, so they went the route of
the "casting call" and auditioned hundreds of other people for the lead
role. Howard says that although a couple of people were good, they felt
there was no-one who had the ability to evoke the "feeling" and "embodiment"
and "essence" of Elvis, to the degree that Jonathon did.

As it turned out, Jonathon Rhys Myers' movie commitment was pushed back and
when they knew he was available after all, they "jumped on it." Howard says
they put Jonathon in front of a camera to see if he had what it took, and,
again, he just "was Elvis."

Continuing this discussion, Howard says this was one of the biggest casting
challenges he's had. They looked at hundreds of other "hopefuls" and knew
they had to have someone with the right "sexuality, physical presence, some
physical resemblance, and sensitivity" and who was also a good actor who
could carry the role. Of the 500 or so ETA's and actors they saw, he said
there were some who "had parts of that" and others who "had other parts" and
even some who looked remarkably like Elvis, but they didn't feel there was
anyone who had it all to the degree that Jonathon did.

In closing, Howard says he is very happy with the show, and you can almost
see the big smile on his face as he describes it as "wonderful!" He
emphasizes that he's come away from this realizing how brilliant a musician
Elvis was and how you just need to hear Elvis' music and it puts a smile on
your face. He very genuinely describes Elvis as "truly a musical genius."

This is great news for Elvis fans and ETA's, who, of course, have known this
all along -- and it sounds as if the CBS mini-series will be presenting the
life, legacy and musical brilliance of Elvis Presley to a huge audience of
fans and "fans to be."

Many thanks to Howard Braunstein for this interview.

Details:

ELVIS, a new four-hour mini-series, created with the full cooperation and
participation of the Elvis Presley Estate, will be broadcast as the "CBS
Sunday Movie" Sunday, May 8 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) and Wednesday, May 11
(8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

CRUISE SHIP, HAWAIIAN STYLE.

Elvis Co-Star, Suzanna Leigh (left) looking to start a joint venture with
Elvis family member, Donna Presley Early?

UK Elvis Impersonator, Jim Devereaux informs us that when he met Suzanna
Leigh at a book signing in Memphis during a trip in January this year, he
had a nice long chat with her and She mentioned to him that she was looking
at starting a joint venture with Donna Presley Early providing fans with
Hawaiian cruises, setting out from Florida.

Devereaux suggested to her that she should call it "Paradise, Elvis Style!".
Leigh who co-starred in the 1966 Paramount movie "Paradise, Hawaiian Style"
also told him that "She was looking for an impersonator to entertain on the
ships and expressed a strong interest in him to perform".

We will bring you any further updates as and when they happen?

Death from Vegas hotel.

In Las Vegas, Elvis Presley defies mortality. From impersonators to wedding
chapel officiators to films like "Honeymoon in Vegas," America's favorite
Sin City has always kept Elvis' spirit soaring. Tragically, the same can't
be said for one of Elvis' greatest admirers. Last Friday television producer
Melanie Bell leaped 109 floors to her death from the top of another Vegas
icon, the Stratosphere Hotel. Bell was in town to film one of the cities
most revered impersonators, Jesse Garon. Last Thursday, Bell put the
finishing touches on the production, then left a message with another
producer saying her car was on the fourth floor parking lot of the
Stratosphere and the keys were at the front desk. Bell was last seen on a
surveillance tape, buying a ticket to the top of the towering hotel. Bell
was once a showgirl and friends say she lamented her weight gain, but it's
not clear why shy took her own life on the top of a real life Heartbreak
Hotel.

Devil in Disguise #2 on UK Singles.

Elvis Presley's 'Devil in Disguise' entered the UK singles chart at #2.

Return to Sender dropped to #37 and Tony Christie remains at #1.

the latest Music Week Chart analysis:

Christie's (Is This The Way To) Amarillo single suffered a 49.9% dip in
sales to 130,700 but still outsold nearest challenger Elvis Presley's
similarly parenthetical (You're The) Devil in Disguise by a margin of almost
exactly five to one. Overall, the singles market slipped week-on-week by
29%, to 553,522. Even so, last week was the third biggest week of the year
for the format. With only Crying In The Chapel, The Wonder Of You and Way
Down to go in the Presley 70th birthday reissue campaign, (You're The) Devil
In Disguise - which sold 26,279 copies last week - provides him with a top
five debut for the 14th week in a row. When the record topped the chart 42
years ago, it was during a rich vein of chart domination by British artists
- out of 28 number ones from the start of 1963 to October 1964, 26 were by
homegrown acts, one by an Irish act (the Bachelors) based in the UK, and the
other was Devil In Disguise. [...]

Summary Singles Sales:

Tony Christie: 130,716 / Elvis Presley 26,729
Mariah Carey: 21,809 / Kylie Minogue: 18,421

Here in spirit(s): Elvis inspired wines making a splash.

Here's a wine to get all shook up over.

It's the Elvis Presley wines produced by Graceland Cellars. The first
vintages of Elvis Presley vinos were released last fall and sales have been
extremely strong. "We launched Graceland Cellars as a tribute to the King of
Rock 'n' Roll," said Scott Cahill, president of Graceland Cellars' parent,
Signature wines. The winery is in Hayward, Calif., a northern coastal area.
"But while the soul of our company is in Memphis, our products are firmly
planted in innovative California winemaking." Getting Elvis Presley
Enterprises to allow them to use the trademark took time and assurance of a
quality product, he said. "We couldn't ask for a better partner than Elvis
Presley Enterprises. People feel a real connection to Elvis and that opens
the doors to our wines. The quality in the bottle is what brings them back."
Graceland Cellars is releasing 20,000 cases of the wines this year; area
buyers can expect to see them in retail shops within the next month. Blue
Suede Chardonnay, Jailhouse Red Merlot, and The King Cabernet Sauvignon will
have a suggested retail price of $12 a bottle. "Wine and celebrations go
hand-in-hand," Cahill said, "What could be more fun than bringing Elvis to a
dinner party?"

13-hour documentary on Elvis.
http://by2fd.bay2.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/getmsg?curmbox=F000000001&a=adf9692df4bac30890bf1d88ae5ed266

Hi Everyone,

As most of you already know, we are now finished with the first 2 1/2 hours
of our 13-hour documentary on Elvis.

We are hoping to be completely finished by this January but with me
traveling so much doing all these charity events it's tough.

We had over 600 hours of footage to reduce to only 13 hours and I don't have
to tell you, this could have been a 60 hour movie if we'd let it be!

What we are lacking at this stage is two things. First, still photos of
Elvis and related things. We want to keep put of the way of Graceland and
EPE so we can only use things they or anyone else do not own the right to.
If you would like to receive our periodic shot lists to see what we're
missing I will be more than happy to send them two you.

Second, we are looking for any music with an Elvis feel, that you might have
or be willing to create especially for the film. Again we can not afford to
use real Elvis music in the film, as I already have a huge amount of my own
money, not to mention nearly 5 years of my life invested in the film.

If you have either stills you'd be willing to let us use and/or music we
could use, I'd love to hear from you. If you supply stills we will give you
a nice credit line in the film and if you contribute music, you will also
receive that credit line.

Finally, after traveling over 200,000 miles filming this project, I am about
to make my last trip to Nashville, at the end of April. Between now and the
end of August I will also be making trips to CT, NY, LI, NJ, DEL, MD, DC.
PA, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL and maybe California (although the CA trip is

SONY/BMG; ELVIS ESTATE & WRITERS TO SEEK ROYALTIES

Elvis Presley' estate and his record company Sony/BMG are joining forces
with many of the writers of the Kings songs in an attempt to secure millions in
lost revenue over the public performances of the Kings hits by Elvis
impersonators around the world.

A Sony/BMG spokesman said; "Song Writers gave Elvis' publishing company a
license for him to record their songs. And under copyright law, once the
song has been recorded and publicly distributed, then compulsory licensing kicks
in and everyone who wants to cover or record the song can do so without that
writers specific permission."

"They are required however by law to pay these writers a statutory royalty
rate, however, as well as notify the writer that they're going to release it
or publicly perform a song, and send royalty statements."

"Elvis impersonators have been performing these songs in public for years.
They get paid and yet pay nothing in royalties to the copyright owners and
that is about to change.

Some have even released CD's and DVD's and have never paid anything in
Monthly Royalties."

This new venture is sure to anger the thousands of Elvis impersonators and
many will be visited at shows in the coming months. Both in the U.S. and the
U.K. The two countries which boast the most Elvis impersonators around the
globe.

"We are simply seeking what is our right" said one songwriter; "The song
writers union is working very closely with Sony/BMG and the Elvis Estate and
we will be demanding that these performers apply for a performance rights
license and possibly back pay in royalties owed."

A Spokesman for Elvis Presley Enterprises said; "For live performances by
Elvis impersonators, ASCAP and the BPI in the U.K. will review set lists
which must be provided by the performing artists. The bottom line is that these
people are paid to perform songs that are not theirs, but now they will have
to pay. As from today, the 1st of April, no-one will be taking us for fools any
more."

The BPI will be contacting UK tribute artists from information taken from
their websites and requesting set lists for past performance dates as shown on the
sites and for upcoming performances.

According to our sources, failure to provide these lists and the making of
royalties payments can result in a hefty fine or in extreme cases,
imprisonment.

Elvis wins Stars In Their Eyes final.

The 2005 final of the UK reality TV program Stars In Their Eyes was won last
week by an Elvis tribute artist singing Suspicious Minds. He won based on a
public vote.

Strangely, messageboards have listed the names of other contestants in the
final but not who appeared as "Elvis". The Australian version of the show,
Starstruck, includes a "young" Elvis impersonator (Anthony Petrucci) in the
upcoming semi-finals. Anthony won heat #2 singing Love Me Tender.

Lisa Presley pays tribute to her parents on her new CD.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY's new album NOW WHAT is full of tributes to her parents,
ELVIS and PRISCILLA including one song, RAVEN, which always makes her mother
cry. The rocker admits she wrote the song after finally coming to terms with
her relationship with her mother two years ago. She says, "(It's about) the
evolution of
her and me. It came to me; the chorus locked into the lyrics and got
emotional and I figure I was on to something when I do that. "It's taken a
long time for us to bond... We're so the opposite of each other... She's got
a china shop and I'm the bull that comes in. "I'm more abrasive, she's very
poised and the way she is and I am the way I am and I think that just
couldn't find a way to blend or exist. "I feel like she wanted me to go to
college and marry a lawyer or a doctor.... I think she wanted me to
absolutely avoid singing... and I didn't turn out or come close to anything
that she had in mind." The new CD, released next week (05APR05) also
features a sleeve dedication to Lisa-Marie's famous parents, which reads,
"For my beautiful mother and father... Each of us have pioneered unusual,
imperfect lives and challenges and we're still an eternal unit, never broken
and I love and appreciate you two so very much it could bury me alive."
