New Elvis documentary in the works.

Pickle Productions (UK) is working on a documentary film about Elvis' early
years. It is being produced for the British broadcast and DVD market. Pickle
Productions has previously been responsible for documentaries on Kurt
Cobain, AC/DC and Queen. These have been informative historical
documentaries, and the Elvis programme will follow in this tradition,
looking primarily at his life in Memphis in the 1940s and 50s and his rise
to fame, as well as his lasting impact on popular music.

Rockwell: 'Zaphod is a bit like Elvis'.

Actor SAM ROCKWELL's alien character in the upcoming movie adaptation of THE
HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY is based on a mixture of famous Americans.

The 36-year-old star introduced an ELVIS PRESLEY quality to his portrayal of
space monster, ZAPHOD BEEBLEBROX after jokingly impersonating the rock 'n'
roll king with actor VINCE VAUGHN. And from that point on, Rockwell couldn't
stop bringing other famous Americans to the role.

Rockwell explains, "Vince and I were taking it in turns to be Elvis, just
playing around. From that improv came this kind of Elvis/Vince amalgam.
"Zaphod is a bit of Vince, a little Elvis, with some BILL CLINTON and a few
other things too. Maybe even a dash of GEORGE W BUSH."

Lisa Presley all loved up on tour with ex-husband and boyfriend.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY has convinced her first husband DANNY KEOUGH to join her
on tour. The bass player, who is the father of Presley's two children, has
been reluctant to team up with his ex, but has now accepted the role of her
musical sidekick on the road. Presley says, "I tried to get him on the first
record but he wouldn't have anything to do with it. I think he just didn't
want it to look like he needed to be associated with me to do anything. "I
was like, 'Get over it, you're a great bass player. It'll be great if you're
on the road,' 'cos he's also my best friend." Presley will be totally loved
up on the road - her new boyfriend, MICHAEL LOCKWOOD, is the rocker's
guitarist.

ANOTHER SCRIPT IN THE WORKS.

Aaron Webster, author of the critically acclaimed book "Elvis - A Radio
History" is currently adapting and 3-act script which will be intended for
theatrical feature, or made for TV production (as of yet un-optioned) ® WGA
Writer's Guild pending.

The story will be a music-filled biopic of the "Young Elvis: Memphis Flash"
era; spanning May 1955 - December 1955; when Elvis zipped around in a series
of junk, better and nicer Cadillac's, and he infiltrated Country & Western
entertainment and upstaged hillbilly acts.

The story will also detail his management relationship with country DJ, Bob
Neal and how that came to include side deals with a blustering ol' carny Tom
Parker, pitchman of a thousand names looking for that one Big Name to give
him his one big break.

Aaron Webster states; "This script has attitude, youthful, energetic,
mobility and is smartly tuned to "The New Rage" positive hope-filled finale
as he reaps rewards for a very busy year, and embarks upon a new career with
RCA Victor".

UPDATE FROM AARON WEBSTER:

Ernst Jorgensen has read the script's logline but due to Sony?BMG not having
a motion picture division, they are unable to make a film, he recommended to
Webster that he contact EPE.

Webster adds, "I approached Sony/BMG because the script designates places
for complete 1954-55 Elvis songs (studio and live) and parts of songs. I
personally would love to hear real Elvis vocals - not a sound-a-like.
Nothing is confirmed yet as to this script is not going into production
under any
particular company banner. But for this Country/Sun/Hayride perspective on
young Elvis, CMT (Country Music Television) would be an ideal broadcast
medium for an original bio-pic.
They have done compelling documentaries on artists in the past."

This Just In...From CBS Entertainment - Behind the Scenes with "Elvis"
Mini-Series.

Following is the third installment of a fun series of regular features from
CBS Entertainment with inside scoop from the production of the new
mini-series "Elvis":

How did Jonathan Rhys-Meyers approach the challenge of becoming Elvis for
the upcoming miniseries "Elvis?" According to Rhys-Meyers, He studied Elvis,
his films and his music, all the nuances that fans know and love. He also
worked with a dialect coach and a dance instructor so that his sound and
moves were authentic.

Both Rhys-Meyers and dialect coach David Dahlgren had reservations about the
accent: the actor didn't want to sound like a nightclub impersonator and the
dialect coach was concerned about getting an Irishman to sound like an
American southerner. "Elvis had more than just a regional [southern]
accent," said Dahlgren. "He had very distinctive speaking mannerisms,
pronunciations and inflections that are well-known to his audience." Actor
and coach worked on inflection and intonation and individual word
pronunciation. Rhys-Meyers also found it helpful to have his dialogue
written out phonetically. "For example, if he had to say 'I can't sing right
now,' it became 'Ah cain't sang rat now," Dahlgren explained. "We also
worked on speaking sincerely and naturally and, once this process became
second nature, Jonathan was free to concentrate on just his acting [in the
scenes]."

Marcus L. Brown was cast as Wynonnie Harris, a blues singer from the '50s
who influenced how Elvis Presley performed. Rhys-Meyers asked the producers
to hire Brown to help him perfect his own dance moves. Brown and Rhys-Meyers
watched a number of Elvis performances together and then went to work. "We
saw how his body moved and acknowledged the sexual essence of his
performance," Brown said. "Jonathan was a very quick study and very
passionate about what we were doing. We would work on a couple of things
[movements] for a shot and then he [Jonathan] would master another on his
own. He was able to hit a signature move at almost any point in the
performance." Brown also noted that in the process of breaking down Elvis'
movements, his and Rhys-Meyers' appreciation of Elvis Presley's talent
deepened.

And if clothes make the ordinary man, Elvis Presley's wardrobe stands out
all on its own. Eduardo Castro served as the costume designer on the
mini-series and noted that there are volumes of books and archival footage
on Elvis' clothes. "We were lucky that there are so many books available
that illustrate Elvis' style," said Castro. "One book, Elvis Fashion, was
published recently and it was invaluable. We had close-ups of the gold suit
as well as the black leather suit that Elvis wore [on his comeback
television special]. It also has a lot of archival photos from Graceland."

Castro's department had over 100 costume changes for Elvis alone, and actor
Rhys-Meyers wasn't in the country until a few days before production began.
"We just 'guesstimated' his sizes and luckily we were accurate," Castro
said. "We built most of his performance wear in Los Angeles, including the
famous gold suit and the black leather suit that Elvis wore for his comeback
television special." For the gold suit, Castro found a special fabric that
needed to be fused to a backing because it was so fragile. "It's very
lightweight but it's very close to the original fabric. The beads were made
of Austrian crystals and covered the lapels, the side stripes, the bow tie
and part of the shirt. The beading process took more than three weeks."

Castro also had to work with the difference in Elvis' style from his humble
beginnings through his rise to fame. "We wanted [his clothing] to be worn
out in the beginning, then get slicker as he became successful. Elvis
created a look for himself and had a patina about him. We were very careful
to keep that image alive."

As production drew to a close, all involved felt they had done their best to
meet the requirements of the Elvis Presley Estate. Per Todd Morgan, the
Director of Media and Creative Development for Elvis Presley Enterprises,
Inc.: "We wanted the mini-series to be unflinchingly honest but properly
balanced and, overall, to be as historically responsible as possible."

To that end, the estate pulled out all the stops to be of help to the
production team. They made suggestions for the script to be sure that the
dialogue and sequences in the mini-series were accurate. "The Graceland
Archives provided access to photos, home movies and artifacts," said Kevin
Kern, Media Coordinator for Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. "We worked with
the wardrobe and makeup departments on the mini-series to help create the
look needed for the 20 year span of the movie. Their set designers and
locations scouts visited Graceland in an effort to get a feel for the home
they would create in New Orleans [the primary location for the
mini-series]."

Best of all, the estate allowed the production to shoot for a day at
Graceland, the first time that a mini-series had been allowed to do so. "Six
scenes were shot on the grounds of Graceland," Kern continued. "[Graceland]
tours continued while the shooting took place, which required careful
planning." Almost 3,500 people took the Graceland tour that day and some
guests were able to snap pictures of the home and the stars in the movie.

As the cast and crew were arriving at Graceland the night prior to the
shoot, they were offered a special evening tour of the mansion. "We felt
that everyone would want to have the Graceland tour experience, but with the
intense one-day schedule [planned for the shoot], most would not have the
opportunity to break away for it," Todd Morgan said, so he and his staff
arranged for a special nighttime tour. "Being at Elvis Presley's home is a
special experience anytime, but it's never more magical than at night when
the regular daily public tours are over and you're there with just a few
other people. There's a spiritual presence of Elvis there all the time, a
certain kind of warmth, but it's stronger in the quiet of the night."

Morgan knew that taking the Graceland tour would increase the production
team's knowledge about Elvis and that they would feel closer to the very
real and fascinating person behind the legend. Did the experience contribute
an extra special element to the actors' performances? "Maybe it did," he
said. "Everything shot at Graceland turned out just beautifully."

ELVIS, a new four-hour mini-series, will be broadcast as the "CBS Sunday
Movie" Sunday, May 8 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) and Wednesday, May 11
(8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The fact-based drama
is about the life of Elvis Presley, one of the greatest entertainers who
ever lived. His electrifying story -- from his humble beginnings to his
meteoric rise to fame -- will be told. Also, Presley's master recordings
will be heard in a biographical film for the first time.

Comments from Ernst JØrgensen about the SUN Projects.

The news on the EU Sun Box ( see previous news yesterday)  mentioned that
the FTD project would concentrate mainly on the year 1955.

Mr. JØrgensen is indeed aware of this EU Sun Box  project. It seems the fans
will benefit from both projects.

'' I have known for quite some time that Joseph is working on a SUN project,
and we have had conversations about it, but apart from his stamper single I
have no idea what his materials are.

The "news" on several boards reveals nothing, but obviously sounds exciting.
I'm not an expert on the legal issues, but I assume that Joseph has done his
home work.

Although I am producing a project on the same subject (Elvis in 1953-55),
I'm just as much of a fan as the rest of you, and welcome any unpublished
material.

I see that Joseph has a list of great people helping - several of these
people are also helping me, and one of the greatest things for me in this
project is that so many people have decided to share their knowledge and
materials - it seems that everybody realises that it's time to forget about
personal agendas, and help create the historical document about these early
times - we will all benefit from this. ''

The discussion about Joseph's book will only really be meaningful when we
know the content, although dreaming and speculating is good fun.

However, when people suggest that we all pool our efforts, it makes little
sense. If Joseph had wanted to be involved in the FTD project, I'm sure he would
have told us.

The situation with Joseph is nothing different to that of John Heath, Sherif
Hanna, Sean O'Neal, Linda Jones, Stanley Oberst, Brian Petersen, Trevor
Cajiao, Ger Rijff, Andylon Lensen, Danny Kane, Kevan Budd, Luca, Lee Cotton,
John Singleton, Knox Phillips, dozens of newspaper men and women, the people
at EPE, and the hundreds of people who have volunteered their stories and
pictures for the project (I'm sorry if I left someone out).

All of these people decided to be part of the project. Others decided not to
be - they all have their own good reasons.

First of all the FTD project is a book. It's meant to be factually as
correct as possible. It will be stories told by the people who were there.
It will have hundreds of photos - many rare and unpublished. The idea is to
collect all we know about those first 18 months in one place.

Secondly it's CD'es - in great sound. There will be previously unreleased
material on the set, a few outtakes, and some live performances, but
different to Joseph we have no exceptional rarity to tease you with.

Presley great friends with Nic Cage.

Rocker Lisa Marie Presley and ex-husband Nicolas Cage have become the best
of friends after looking at their disastrous 180-day marriage from a
distance. The couple split in 2004 after a lover's tiff, leaving friends and
fans convinced they'd always hate each other, but Presley insists nothing
could be further from the truth. She says, "We were two pirates... You can't
have two pirates. "That was not a fun time for either of us. He did redeem
himself in the end and we did become very good friends after that and we're
better like that, and (now) he's happily married and has a baby coming now,
which is great. We're fine." Presley admits she should have known the
marriage was doomed because she couldn't see herself living happily ever
after with the movie star. She adds, "I had a bad, bad habit, which no one
else should have... where I didn't think like that. I was caught up in some
whirlwindy sort of romantic idea. "That's why I've made as many mistakes as
I have."

"Elvis Presley - Desert Storm: The Shattering Of A Myth!"

A new book entitled "Elvis Presley - Desert Storm: The Shattering Of A
Myth!" written by Darrin Lee is scheduled for release on April 25th, 2005.
This A5 format softcover book will have 225 pages and feature two of Keith
Alverson's never-before-seen photo-graphs from the Closing Show.

Chapters 1 - 3 of "Elvis Presley - Desert Storm: The Shattering Of A Myth!"
don't contain the words "Desert Storm" once. The first fifty pages of the
book are devoted to The 1974 "Elvis Summer Festival."

Fifty pages! In these information-packed chapters devoted to the 2 week
engagement that opened up on August 19th and closed with a bang on September
2nd, 1974, you will be given a crash course.

You'll learn about The Opening Night Set List and Show Framework Shakeup,
The Karate Dialogue, The Scarf or Lei Comedy Bit, and the list goes on and
on. It's ground breaking material in every respect.

The allocates nearly ten pages to detailing/analyzing Opening Night and the
mystery surrounding what happened. The f-bomb Elvis launches at a heckler is
covered and so is his controversial use of the n-word.

One of the book's key chapter is entitled, "Elvis' P. I. Investigates The
Paternity Suit." This chapter contains all germane details about John
O'Grady's involvement in the paternity suit that accused Elvis Presley of
fathering a son in 1970.

Darrin Lee has taken reference from dozens of court documents in writing the
definitive account of Pat Parker's paternity suit. Elvis didn't even scratch
the surface of the legal maneuvering that took place. If you like Court TV,
then you're gonna love this chapter!

Movie magazine coverage of the paternity suit is an important component in
the forty page
dissertation on the subject.
It must be understood that back in the 1970's, for all intents and purposes,
it was left up to the
movie magazines to write about the lives of show business personalities.

Some of you will feel that what you learn about the paternity suit will be
worth the cost of the
book
The author has spent hundreds of dollars and countless hours on this
subject, but it's very important for the fans to know the seriousness of the
legal battle Elvis faced
from 1970 - 1974.

The book also tackles the subject of Elvis and Priscilla's divorce in a big
way and has struck gold. An entire chapter is devoted to it and rare
pictures were uncovered in the process.

As you know, Mike Stone's name came up during The Priscilla Dialogue. My
in-depth analysis will take you below the surface & reveal that conventional
wisdom is way off base.

Presley dishes about marriage to Jackson.

Lisa Marie Presley aired her "Dirty Laundry" on "Oprah." In the first of a
two-part interview on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to promote her new album,
Presley spoke Monday about her brief marriage to Michael Jackson, who is on
trial in Santa Maria, Calif., on child molestation charges.

She told Winfrey that her marriage to Jackson, which lasted from 1994 to
1996, was real. "Do you think that he loved you as much as he could?" the
talk-show host asked.
"Yes, as much as he was capable of loving somebody," Presley replied. (They
famously opened the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards by exchanging a long kiss.)

In a "PrimeTime Live" interview with the couple in 1995, Presley told ABC's
Diane Sawyer that anyone who questioned their relationship could "Eat it!"
When Winfrey asked if she felt that Jackson had used her, Presley replied,
"All signs point to `yes' on that.

I can't answer for him." Presley, the daughter of Elvis, claimed she was
uncomfortable talking about Jackson, at one point exclaiming: "This seat is
hot!" The 37-year-old singer made similar comments about her former husband
while promoting her 2003 debut album, describing the relationship to The
Associated Press as more "toxic" than her other relationships.

Then, she told the AP: "I don't want to bash him. I don't hate him, I don't
have any of that going on."

Marilyn Manson and Elvis.

Citing Marilyn Manson's history of "violence, drug abuse and civil
disorder," Congressman Dick Armey (R-Tx.) has asked promoters to reconsider
allowing the musician to perform in Dallas's Reunion Arena on March 23.
Despite this letter--in which Armey, the powerful House majority leader,
describes himself as a concerned "father of five"--the show will go on. Hail
Satan! (2 pages) The Armey missive reminds The Smoking Gun of a hilarious
letter written 43 years ago to FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover regarding another
threat to the republic. A Wisconsin Bible-thumper was so enraged by Elvis
Presley's perverted concert antics that he branded the singer "a definite
danger to the security of the United States." Impressionable girls, the man
noted, were Presley's most helpless victims.

The Year the Music Changed.

Release date September 2005.
Novel, 225 pages Author Diane Coutler Thomas (ISBN 1592641229)  at Tobi
Press.Com

"It is 1955. Achsa is a lonely, passionate and precocious fourteen-year-old,
isolated at school by her intelligence and disfigurement, troubled at home
by the undercurrents in her parents' relationship. She finds comfort and
inspiration in the tunes and rhythms she hears on her radio. Hearing a
recording by an unknown 20-year-old country singer named Elvis Presley, she
fires off a fan letter, telling him she knows he's going to be a star.

Insecure in the world he is entering, passionate about music and burning
with a desire to succeed, Elvis answers her and enlists her help in teaching
him how to "talk good." The intimate, touching correspondence that follows
chronicles Achsa and Elvis' coming of age as artists and individuals. Able
to confide in nobody else, they share with each other their most private
dreams and fears. Elvis becomes Achsa's sounding board as she watches her
beautiful, distant mother and her sternly religious father lurch toward
tragedy, confronts her own scarred mouth, and faces a shattering loss. The
young singer's responses reveal his fierce, aching innocence in the year
before his star burst forth and offers a fascinating glimpse into the
grassroots history of rock and roll.

"inappropriate" gifts that her estranged husband, Elvis had given to his
daughter LISA MARIE, so that people wouldn't poke fun at the youngster.

The German-born socialite used to upset her daughter time and time again by
taking away gifts her father had bought her - because as she states "they
weren't the kind of things a little girl should have".

Presley recalls, "He gave her a fur coat that was a mink coat and she
brought it home. I think he gave it to her for her birthday and I said, 'You're not
wearing this.
This is not for you. You're five years old.' She went on; "I called him up
and I said, 'What are you doing?' It was just too much.

The Kings Ex-Wife says that she only did it to protect her daughter, "Even
though a child doesn't put a lot on it, others put a lot on it. The comments from
other people: 'Oh my God, she has this, she has that,' that really bothered me".

On one occasion, Elvis gave his precious little girl a precious gift, "He
gave her a little diamond ring one time when she was about six-years-old. I  take that
away".

Priscilla and Lisa Marie appeared  together for their first TV interview on
yesterday's (29th MAR 2005) OPRAH show in America.

GER RIJFF ATTACKS THE UPCOMING SUN RELEASE.
(Read the complete article on Ep.Gold  March 20,2005, Hot E News)

NEW LABEL 'MEMPHIS RECORDING SERVICE' TO RELEASE SUN BOX SET.

Joseph Pirzada:

Please note that I have not yet made any statement pertaining to the
'MEMPHIS RECORDING SERVICE' project.

Any news regarding this will be seen on the relevant Elvis news sites, that
says the information is sourced from myself.

As for Ger Rijff maybe he does not know that both names he mentioned in
another thread (Sherriff Hanna - Stanley Oberst) are very very close friends
of mine (long beofre the MRS project was undertaken) and they were never
contacted by any party as I spoke to them yesterday.

They have no interest in being dragged into the Elvis politics.

I dont want to sink to his level on the site (Fecc-Messageboard)) and call
him a liar since he is not the one pulling the strings on his childish and
unproffesional statements.

When the project comes out, all can see the list of contributors to this
project and do all the investigating they want.

ANOTHER ELVIS PLAY
Hopeful writer plans ultimate play

Elvis plays seem to be like buses, you wait forever and then several turn up
at once.

We already have 'Jailhouse Rock', 'All Shook Up' and 'Elvis, Lennon & JFK'
which are currently on the theatre stages in the UK and America.

Then we have the wonderful potential of 'The Memphis Lullaby' and another
play which we are banned from telling you about (and no, its not a banning
order from EPE).

Now we have another.....The play is not yet finished and he has yet to start
the long task of finding the funding needed but the writer is looking to produce
what he says will be the 'ultimate' play on Elvis Presley's life.

The writer who wishes to remain anonymous at this time said this; "I have
been researching Elvis' life for 7 years in order to try and get the full picture
of his life and career. The play will mainly focus on the musical side of the kings life
but will include all the key moments in his personal life as well."

We will bring you more detailed information on the play which is tentatively
titled "ELVIS - A MUSICAL JOURNEY" when we get it.

simply nods and says "yeah" when Winfrey asks her to confirm the rumours
about the end of her short marriage. She then tells the host, "I was upset,

Elvis rules in Dubai.

For Americans, Elvis Presley holds a special place in their cultural hearts.
It was not surprising therefore that any link, no matter how tenuous, to the
King captivates the American media as became evident after Elvstroem won the
Dubai Duty Free. But, as Nash Rawiller discovered there was an air of
mystique surrounding this latest 'Elvis' wanna be. "Is it you they call
Elvis?" one television interviewer asked a gobsmacked Rawiller, who
laughingly reassured the woman he was not. Like all good jockeys he didn't
miss the opening. "But, Elvis showed tonight he can still rock and roll,"
Rawiller said. For the 30-year-old Rawiller, who copped a roasting for his
ride on Elvstroem in the Australian Cup a fortnight earlier, the Dubai Duty
Free stood out like a Vegas Elvis impersonator as a career high. Asked how
winning the $2.5 million Dubai Duty Free rated in 15 years plying his trade
as heavyweight jockey, Rawiller replied: "It was like winning the Melbourne
Cup".

Don't be cruel? Elvis is slighted.

It takes only the opening number of All Shook Up to come to the pained
conclusion that Elvis is no longer in the building, which is the Palace
Theatre. The song is "Love Me Tender," and in the new musical untimely
ripped from the King's legacy, it's offered by a hopeful young woman who has
yet even to meet the man who will love her, tenderly or otherwise.

The disconnect continues with a treatment of "Heartbreak Hotel" done by a
chorus of drinkers in a bar who join in unison preposterously to complain,
"I feel so lonely I could die." And so it goes in All Shook Up, a show to
make any Presley purist feel like a blue suede shoe that has just been
stepped on. It is damning with the faintest of praise to say that All Shook
Up is not the worst of the songbook musicals. There are strong voices in the
cast and some weird fascination offered by Joe DiPietro's book. DiPietro,
who is best known for I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, is obviously
aware of the many pitfalls that await writers within this dubious genre.
His solution is a plot that combines elements of Twelfth Night and a host of
other Shakespearean references with the teen rebellions beloved of
rock-and-roll movies of the '50s. This focuses the show in the era when
Elvis did his groundbreaking work and keeps the image of the obese Vegas
caricature at a welcome distance.

The Elvis figure in the proceedings is Chad (Cheyenne Jackson), a wanderer
who arrives in a pelvically challenged rural town with his motorbike and
pompadour both carefully oiled. It is Chad's mission to teach the town to
boogie; he is, of course, opposed by hidebound conservatives led by the
mayor (Alix Korey), who doesn't want the local youth corrupted. The
principal romantic triangle involves Natalie (Jennifer Gambatese), the local
mechanic who admires more than Chad's bike.

In the evening's dopiest development, her rival for the sideburned
roustabout is the knockout blonde who runs the local museum, housed in a
trailer. No fewer than 26 Elvis songs are jammed into Natalie's pursuit of
Chad (she disguises herself as a man and becomes his best buddy) and the
other entanglements of lovers. Whenever desire overtakes a character, he or
she erupts into a comic outburst of "One Night With You."

One of the show's problems is that it tries to put a humorous spin on
original Elvis material that was utterly serious in its expressions of
yearning and vulnerability. It would be too much to expect director
Christopher Ashley to invest any of this with coherence, but he at least
encourages a lighthearted approach.

All Shook Up is a show for an undemanding mainstream Broadway audience.
Shaken Elvis loyalists, who cherish what their man brought to every lyric,
will think that only fools could fall in love with it, that All Shook Up
should be interred in a quiet corner of Graceland.

All Shook Up Directed by Christopher Ashley, written by Joe DiPietro.

Starring Cheyenne Jackson and Jennifer Gambatese.

Playing at: Palace Theatre, 1564 Broadway (at 46th Street), New York.

Tickets: $19.55 to $100. Information: 215-336-2000 or www.ticketmaster.com.

Elvis Presley died nearly 30 years ago.but death isn't hurting his career.
For example, a new show featuring Presley has just opened on Broadway at the
Palace Theater. There's a new CBS mini-series coming in May. And Lisa Marie
Presley is just about to to release her second CD. Yesterday on Soundcheck

work continues to influence young performers today, and took your calls.

BOOTLEG RIP-OFF WARNING.

We would like to warn fans about a bootleg out on the market which is
titled "I Couldn't Live Without You" released on the Snowy Label.

The tracks on this CD have been ripped off by the makers from the
excellent audio website from Keith Flynn and are ALL available from his
site FREE for your enjoyment.

Keith contacted the Elvisinfonet site and said; "Can you believe someone
has made a Bootleg CD of songs from my web site, and actually think
they are real 'Takes'? I mean, come on, who actually thinks Elvis did a
vocal overdub for the song 'Angel'? or the Stereo Master for 'A Whistling
Tune' has been found! I made them myself for God's sake!"

Because the tracks have been downloaded from Keith' site, they are in
poor sounding MP3 samples and are not in the great sound quality that
he owns in his personal collection.

The Tracklisting:
01 - Mystery Train (new backing by Jamie Aaron Kelley)
02 - Milkcow Blues Boogie (new backing by Jamie Aaron Kelley)

18 - I'm Leaving It Up To You (live)
19 - The First Time Ever I Held You Close (live)
20 -  I Couldn't Live Without You ( live ) (Performed by Pete Hallin)

Keith went on to say. "This sort of thing really pi**es me off as all I want
to do is let fans hear (and see) what is in peoples private collections, but if
this is going to happen, then I will have to close my site."

We hope that no-one is duped into buying this release but more important, we
say this to Keith. "Don't close your superb site, It is righly thought of by
Elvis fans around the world!"

If you have yet to visit Keith' site then get there and enjoy.

The point, of course, was that artistry celebrated in one style or genre
doesn't necessarily translate to another.
I suspect this joke, however obvious, would have been lost on the producers,
casting agents and
others involved in the new Elvis Presley homage All Shook Up, the latest
professional karaoke contest to masquerade as a Broadway musical.

Say what you will about Mamma Mia! and Good Vibrations, two other greatest-
hits showcases designed to tap into the growing nostalgia and burgeoning
bank accounts of aging pop fans. However off-putting their opportunism and lack
of imagination, both at least aimed for musical authenticity, drawing on the
expertise of insiders such as ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and
Brian Wilson colleague Van Dyke Parks, and enlisting performers with a
passing affinity for rock 'n' roll textures.

In contrast, most of the game young cast members of All Shook Up, which
opened Thursday at the Palace Theatre, sing and act as if they just stepped
off a Marvin Hamlisch tribute tour.

There are some pretty and potent voices here, to be sure; but their approach
to the material tends to range from painfully self-conscious to outright clueless.

The calculated growls and mannered sneers that sometimes embellish golden
oldies such as Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel and That's All Right only add to
the false, sterile feel of the numbers.

Joe DiPietro's book is even more tone-deaf. The plot, an unlikely and
idiotic hybrid of Grease, Footloose and Twelfth Night, involves a tomboyish mechanic
who falls for a guitar-wielding, hip-swiveling, motorcycle-riding drifter with long
black sideburns.

Tall, dark and hammy, Cheyenne Jackson plays the Elvis-like leading man with
all the sincerity of a Chippendale dancer trying to bilk a drunk matron.
Even at his most kitschy, Presley projected a certain earnestness; irony was the
last quality you would associate with him.

Yet like many contemporary shows that have nothing new or interesting to
say, All Shook Up revels in winking jokes and self-reference - even as it makes
lame attempts to touch on issues such as racism and homophobia. Cutting
social satire is provided by way of a female mayor, played with cartoonish
haughtiness by Alix Korey, who runs around lecturing everyone on moral
decency.

Which Elvis fans, you may ask, will want to witness this strange marriage of
snark and schlock?

Some of the same ones, I suspect, who were drawn to Las Vegas toward the
end of his life - not to catch a glimpse of his former glory, or even to
mourn its loss, but to celebrate the same triumph of excess over substance that, come to
think of it, has increasingly characterized Broadway musicals in the decades
since.

In one number, If I Can Dream, "angels" emerge on motorbikes suspended in
midair by wires, sporting shiny suits and pouffy white wings.

The person accompanying me remarked that it was a horrible thing to do to
that song.

And to all the others, he should have added.

This Just In...From CBS Entertainment - Behind the Scenes with "Elvis"
Mini-Series.

Following is the second installment of a fun series of regular features from
CBS Entertainment with inside scoop from the production of the new
mini-series "Elvis":

How do you accurately make a film about a legendary performer whose life
story has been well-documented both on film and in print? When Elvis
impersonators abound, who do you cast so that the legend comes alive but is
not a parody? Those are questions that producers asked themselves when they
decided to make a mini-series about Elvis Presley.

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers ("Bend It Like Beckham") stars as Elvis Presley, Emmy
and Golden Globe Award winner Camryn Manheim ("The Practice") stars as
Gladys Presley, Golden Globe Award winner Randy Quaid ("LBJ: The Early
Years") stars as "Colonel" Tom Parker and Rose McGowan ("Charmed") stars as
Ann-Margret.

Robert Greenblatt, David Janollari and Howard Braunstein are the executive
producers who contacted the Elvis Presley Estate prior to going ahead with
the project to talk about making a mini-series. "While we were interested in
doing the film, we felt that with such an iconic figure [as Elvis Presley],
we didn't want to move forward without the blessing of the Presley family
and the estate," said Braunstein. "Once they agreed to cooperate with us,
they also opened up their archives so that we could really show Elvis in a
way that hadn't been seen before."

"In the mini-series, we see Elvis between the ages of 18 and 33 and we learn
about his upbringing -- how poor he was," Braunstein continued. "We see his
musical influences, watch his rise to fame and get insight into his
relationships with the key people in his life including his mother, Gladys,
his manager Colonel Tom Parker, Ann-Margret and Priscilla."

One more piece fell into place that had never before happened in an Elvis
movie. "We were able to convince the Estate to let us use actual master
recordings of his [Elvis'] music," said Braunstein. "So every time you hear
an Elvis song, you are actually listening to an Elvis recording."

Next, they set out to find the right actor to play the legendary Presley.
"We did a world-wide casting call," said director James Sadwith. "We saw
actors in Los Angeles and New York as well as Canada, Australia, New
Zealand, Ireland and England." An open casting call was held in Los Angeles
where Elvis wannabes, including a number of bona fied Elvis impersonators,
lined up around the block.

But, from the very beginning, there was one actor who they felt was right.
"We liked Jonathan Rhys-Meyers from the start, but he wasn't interested
originally so we moved on," said Sadwith. As they went through the process
there was another person who came very close. "He was one of 11 children
born to a traveling tent preacher. All of the kids played musical
instruments and the father had told them that they were born to carry on
Elvis' work. He came very close but ultimately backed out because he really
wanted to be a preacher himself and felt that his congregation wouldn't take
him seriously if he had been an actor reading lines and doing love scenes."

Finally, casting director Mary Jo Slater went to England to meet with
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and convinced him to read the script and then to take
the part. Sadwith said: "So we got the very first person ever mentioned to
do the mini-series. It was really great!"

Elvis's Hair Helps Sell Classic Muscle Cars.

Northern Illinois Classic Auto Brokers, Ltd. and Classicmusclecars.com
announced today that their rock and roll memorabilia collection has acquired
Elvis Presley's authentic hair. Presley's hair and other memorabilia can be
viewed online at classicmusclecars.com, along with the documentation of
providence on video. Presley's hair will join other memorabilia including, a
rare 36 diamond TCB ring, a leather jacket worn by Presley around Graceland,
a guitar given to John Wayne signed by Presley for a birthday present and
many records, pictures and other miscellaneous collectibles at
Classicmusclecars.com's showroom. "Elvis was not only a rock and roller, he
was a car guy too. He loved beautiful cars and loved to buy them. He also
gave away many of the cars that he owned, which showed great generosity and
kindness from a once poor southern boy who became the most famous
entertainer of our time. Although people may feel a little uncomfortable
with the fact that we have acquired some of Elvis's real hair, I feel it
brings him even closer to help us with the success of selling classic muscle
cars. It brings out that good feeling to people when they buy classic muscle
cars just like the good feeling they get when they listen to Elvis's music.
He is still with us everyday at our showrooms at classicmusclecars.com,"
said Tony Begley, owner and founder of Northern Illinois Classic Auto
Brokers and Classicmusclecars.com.

Elvis Documentary.

Hi Everyone,

I am so happy to be able to announce that we are getting ready to do our
last set of trips to interview people for our 13-hour Elvis documentary.

We have already interviewed over 600 people for the film and it has truly
been a wonderful experience. We are also speaking to both the Las Vegas
Hilton and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame about hosting the World Premier of
the film early in 2006 and of course, all those who we interview will be
invited to a huge party there.

The interviews are great fun and just this past weekend we were up in
Baltimore for the premier of my documentary "Snow Angeles" and picked up
interviews with both Bob Grimm from the Four Seasons and Beatle George
Harrison's family.

In April I will be traveling to do interviews there and then between April
and July I'll be in CA, GA, FL, MD, CT, NY and Virginia for other events I'm
doing and will pick up interviews in each of those places in the process.

The interviews take about 30 minutes, although they can take as long as you
like and, of course, we'll come to you. If you would like to be interviewed
(especially for our first and last trip to Nashville,) and/or know of
someone who might, please get back to me as soon as possible.

The film is currently being edited and those who've seen clips of it feel
it's the best thing that's ever been done on the King.

I look forward to hearing from you and thanks again.

O Rei de Las Vegas (King of Las Vegas)

The bazilian fan club Elvis Presley's Wolrd Fan Club released in February,
the first book of the collection Essential para fãs (Essential to fans).
This collection of 3 books will be released yearly until 2007 and it will
comprise all Elvis' career. The first volume's title is O Rei de Las Vegas
(King of Las Vegas). The book is written by Waldenir Cecon, it has 240 pages
and it's all written in Portuguese.

Design
This books's cover is appelative with an Elvis' picture on stage over Las
Vegas. Back cover has several Elvis' pictures on stage too. Inside we can
find several Elvis photos (none new) and cd covers (official and imported
ones) with Elvis' concerts in Las Vegas. All pictures are in black and white
and, to me, the only negative point in this book is the picture's quality
which isn't the best.

Content
The book starts with some brief autor notes to help the reader and to reveal
what the next two books will include. O Rei de Las Vegas has 16 chapters,
one for each of the 15 Elvis' seasons in Las Vegas between 1969 and 1976 and
another one for the Lake Tahoe seasons. Each chapter is named after the song
the author thinks marked the season. Each chapter starts with a little text
and some pictures of the season. Then we have the complete list of each
concert of the season, with its date, the kind of concert (opening, closing,
dinner or midnight) and - when possible - the list of the songs Elvis sang.
Then we have testimonials from fans who were there, the images that were
made (by fans or not), official and imported cd's with the concerts (along
with the picture of the cover) and the songs they include. To finish the
chapter, there's a list of all songs Elvis sang during the season (even if
he sang only one line), the jumpsuits, the musicians, the number of concerts
and the number of fans in the audience. Lake Taho's chapter has a text about
each season there between 1971 and 1976 and the list of the official and
imported cd's, along with their covers and the songs included.

Conclusion
This small book (19x12,5 cm) is a in fact, a big book. It's very complete,
with lots of information and very easy to look for information. Finally,
there is a book written in Portuguese with all the information about Elvis'
seasons in Las Vegas. To all the fans who cannot read English and to the
fans who want all the information in the same volume, this is the ideal
book.

This book has only 500 copies.

DOWNLOADING TO BE INCLUDED IN UK SINGLES CHART FIGURES.

The first Elvis single to be affected by this ruling will be 'The Wonder Of
You'. The new ruling becomes effective from April 10th.

More information on this topic.

U.K. Physical and Digital Singles Sales Charts to Merge

The U.K. music industry has agreed in principle to merge the recently
launched digital singles sales chart with the traditional singles chart,
perhaps by early next year. The Official UK Charts Company reports that
sales of physical singles often dip below 400,000 each week while between
200,000 and 250,000 digital singles are sold each week from Internet
download services.

Sales of physical singles have been tracked in the U.K. for more than 50
years but sales have declined over the past several years. The top-selling
pop single for the week ended October 17th sold only 23,500 physical copies,
the lowest ever for a number one single. In 2003, sales of physical singles
in the U.K. declined 30 percent, but the rate of decline slowed to 10
percent in 2004. While an increasing number of U.K. consumers turn to
digital downloading services to purchase tracks, there remains however a
considerable number of consumers who do not own a digital music player or
know how to download a song.

In the meantime, a company called Inspired Broadcast Networks has announced
plans to install kiosks that sell music downloads in two London railway
stations next month. Individual tracks will cost about one pound each and
can be downloaded onto either a mobile phone or a digital music player. The
company hopes to launch with a repertoire of two million songs and plans to
install as many as 20,000 machines in retail stores, service stations and
pubs by the end of next year.

Elvis Hunter Needs Help From NE Mississippi Storytellers

Elvis researcher Ernst Jorgensen wants to document all of the King of Rock
'n' Roll's shows from late 1954 through 1955, before he hit the world stage.
If you have pictures, posters, ticket stubs, diary entries, memories or
mementos, call (718) 247-4448 or e-mail dannykane@cox.net.

CD prizes will be offered for the best info and photos.

Some of the stories Jorgensen uncovers will be told in future editions of
the Daily Journal. You may not believe this, but there are Elvis Presley
stories that haven't been told.

"With a project like this, we're trying to document history," Ernst
Jorgensen said during a phone call from Denmark. "We can't do it without
help."

Jorgensen has been hunting all things Elvis since the early 1990s, when he
began repackaging the King of Rock 'n' Roll's music. He was behind "Elvis:
30 No. 1 Hits," the follow-up, "Second to None" and many others.

Now, he needs your help (see fact box with this story). He's trying to
document all the shows Elvis performed during the latter part of 1954 and
throughout 1955, when the boy who would be King honed his skills at clubs,
armories and high school gymnasiums across the Southeast.

Gaps

"From West Texas towns we have six, eight or 10 pictures from this town and
20 from another. I've seen only one photo ever from Northeast Mississippi of
Elvis' young days before he was famous," Jorgensen said. "I've seen family
photos, but I'm talking about when Elvis played at schools and football
fields and all that.

"The only photo I've seen was, I think it was from Bruce, where he's
backstage with two young ladies," he continued. "No photos from Corinth. No
photos from Booneville. No photos in Houston or Houlka or Tupelo, all these
places he played. That cannot be right."

So, he's asking for your memories, and he doesn't care if they're good or bad.

"There are people who went to the shows and thought Elvis was awful," he
said. "We want those people to step forward as well."

He already has a list of shows that he knew took place during Elvis' early
days. On Jan. 17, 1955, Elvis was in Booneville, and the next day, he played
at the Alcorn County Courthouse.

There are dates for Ripley (Feb. 1), Randolph (March 1), Tocopola (March
29), Corinth again (April 7), Bruce (June 14), Belden (June 15), Tupelo
(Aug. 1), Houston (maybe Oct. 25) and Amory (maybe Dec. 12).

"We know a lot of people went to these shows, and maybe some of them took
small cameras," he said. "We're hoping these stories will come out."

The search has been easier in other states because Texas and Arkansas shows
were advertised in newspapers, but many of the Northeast Mississippi events
were advertised over the radio.

He's not expecting posters, though the ones that exist could be worth as
much as $20,000. He's not expecting recordings, though he found one in
Meridian and there's no telling how much it's worth.

But why?

Jorgensen has been an Elvis fan since he first heard "Little Sister" on the
radio in 1961. He's now an Elvis researcher and producer for Sony/BMG, which
owns the RCA catalog, including Elvis' songs.

This hunt, Jorgensen said, is about documenting the musial beginnings of a
worldwide phenomenon. Love him or hate him, everyone has an opinion about
the biggest pop icon of the 20th century.

"To a lot of people, Elvis was only a guy who happened to be at the right
place at the right time and got lucky overnight. This project is going to
demonstrate exactly the opposite," he said. "If you look at Elvis' calendar
for the year '55, and the last few months of '54, he was playing every
single day one or two shows, sometimes with 12-hour driving time between one
show and the next one.

"Elvis didn't just get lucky," Jorgensen continued. "He spent every day
refining his music, refining his stage presence."

Jorgensen knows about Elvis ripping his britches crawling through a school
window for a show at Belden, but he has no pictures or ticket stubs from
that day in 1955.

He also knows there are plenty of concerts that are not included on his
list. In one case, a woman's diary entry provided a crucial date that helped
expand his knowledge.

When people call or e-mail, he tries to get in touch with them as soon as
possible, though there is a time difference between Northeast Mississippi
and Denmark.

"We will get back to people, so they should be patient," he said. "In
certain places, there are great storytellers and they'll have memories that
nobody ever thought of. This is a lot of fun."

titled Idiot, and collaborating with in demand songwriter Linda Perry and
Pink on six other tunes, the daughter of rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley
still believes there's little hope for her new disc. She says, "I don't
think my music fits into the radio formats of today so I wouldn't be
surprised if it didn't get any airplay. "But I didn't do this for money or
fame because I've always had that."

400.000 copies of "Elvis By the Presleys"

It seems as if the Graceland Estate has high expectations of the sales for
"Elvis By the Presleys" (see new cover). The first print was set at 400.000
copies. According to the press release, this will be a beautiful, lavishly
designed book full of personal photos, memorabilia, and never-before-seen
shots of Graceland's rooms. "Elvis By the Presleys" will mark the first time
Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley have teamed up to talk about Elvis. Their
poignant, firsthand memories center around important themes and events in
Elvis' life, such as his rise to fame, his courtship of teenaged Priscilla,
his life as a devoted father, his desire to be a serious actor, his
generosity, his style, his dark side, and the decline in health leading to
his death. The photos will include home movie stills and never-before-seen
treasures from Graceland's huge archive.

Hunt for early Elvis is fascinating fun.

Mention Elvis Presley and your telephone number in the same newspaper
article and the expected happens.

I should know. I did it and the ringing phone is without intermission.

No complaints, though. The search for Elvis in Biloxi is a welcomed
diversion. Readers think feature writers are interviewing or writing all
day, but that is far from reality. Mucho footwork, phone calls, processing
of press releases and production go into getting out this newspaper.

Again, no complaints. A press release to my features editor, Scott Hawkins,
sent me on a fascinating hunt for the early Elvis. It came from Danny Kane,
who lives near Baton Rouge and who asked if we would help his colleague,
Ernst Jorgensen, aka The Elvis Hunter, producer of Elvis books and record
sets.

Ernst is piecing together Elvis' movements in the 18 months from his first
hit, "That's All Right, Mama," in July 1954 to his first mega-hit,
"Heartbreak Hotel," in December 1955.

Part of that time was in Biloxi, and Ernst wants the proof.

Our first article, titled "Did you witness dawn of Elvis' career?" appeared
Jan. 24. As Ernst faces publishing deadlines, he is ferreting through
hundreds of calls from here and across the country.

Then last Sunday, we published a follow-up. Elvis definitely gave six 1955
concerts in Biloxi and several club gigs. Important questions were answered
but one still remains: Did he perform at The Fiesta, a popular Biloxi
nightclub?

Our search also turned up unpublished 1955 photographs, including one from a
Biloxi concert taken by Al Lewis of Orange Grove. A teen at the time, Lewis
doesn't remember where he took the photo so we asked readers, with the
majority voting for the Biloxi Community House.

Something else surfaced from Al's photo.

"I think that's me, the shadow on the left," Bill Stafford said with a
laugh. "I know that's my steel guitar to the left of Elvis, and my wife says
the shape of the shadow is me. I was there that night and played with Elvis.
I brought my steel guitar, a Rickenbacker with two necks."

He is recognized nationally for the steel pedal guitar, and he was
associated with Dan Seal, who in 1955 had a band and owned Hambone in
Gulfport, a club where Elvis played in '55 at age 20.

Our follow-up also brought several claims that Elvis was here before 1955,
and Bill's was one of them. He remembers Elvis spending the night at his
parent's home in Handsboro when they were both teenagers. He has memories of
playing guitar with Elvis at Rosetti's Grocery and on the porch of Handsboro
Masonic Lodge.

Elvis in Biloxi before 1955? That's news to Ernst, who has compiled Elvis'
day-by-day life. As a teen he had a car that would barely take him on a
Memphis date, so he didn't drive here. He was so busy supplementing the
meager income of his parents that teachers asked the Presleys to cut down on
work hours because he fell asleep in class.

Ernst, however, has no records of where Elvis slept in June 1955 after two
concerts at Keesler Air Force Base and one at Biloxi's Slavonian Lodge. So
on this recent hunt, new myths were born and others popped.

"The legends just grow and grow, and unless people in these towns can show
us elements of proof, they remain just stories," Ernst explained.

He cites Gladwater, Texas, where a persistent story claims a 16-year-old
Elvis arrived by bus, alone, to play at a nightclub and he hung around for
days to pick up more shows. Does it jibe? He was in high school, worked long
hours, had watchful parents.

All this history mystery stuff is captivating. Even if we hadn't uncovered
kingly gems, the hunt was fun.

Percy Sledge praises Elvis.

"Picked up the most recent Goldmine and it featured an interview with Percy
Sledge the man behind "When a Man Loves a Woman", "Take Time to Know Her",
"Warm and Tender Love" and another dozen or so deep soul classics. In the
interview Percy talks of the influence of pop and country oriented artists
on his music. He starts off the list with a very familiar name: Elvis
Presley. He also mentions Hank Williams, Brenda Lee, Marty Robbins, and
Connie Francis.

"They were all my favorites," says Sledge in the interview.

This little tidbit once again demonstrates the esteem with which Elvis was
held by African-Americans of his own generation and the one just after. Most
of the artists who put Elvis forth as a rip off artist came later divorced
from his original context.

The people who were really there (especially the ones who were teens when
Elvis hit the big time) often recognized in Elvis a kindred spirit and their
admiration exposes the political bias behind the later dismissals of Elvis'
work and influence. It also points out to me the absurdity of trying to
break music down into strict color barriers.

For Percy Sledge, this music belonged to him as much as it belonged to any
white listener. Music and emotion are universal and real artists recognize
this. Not that Percy's admiration of Elvis was a secret before. He had nice
size hits with both "Love Me Tender" and "True Love Travels on a Gravel
Road". Still, it's nice to have it on the record".

GER RIJFF ATTACKS THE UPCOMING SUN RELEASE.

Ger Rijff is a worldwide known figure into the Elvis world and has published
several Elvis books which include; Memphis Lonesome, Florida Close-Up, Fire
In The Sun, Inside Jailhouse Rock and Inside King Creole.

But the upcoming 1953-54 Sun collection being released by new label "Memphis
Recording Service" seems to have him in a spin?

On a known website, Mr. Rijff suggests that "The design for the Sun CD from
Mr. Pirzada (who?) stinks big time?"
The Elvis book publisher goes on to say; "It's like 'coca cola' meets happy
days designed especially for the Asian
market. This is so not 50's. This is so bloody wrong."

Label owner, Joseph Pirzada states that he has been working on this project
for 3 years and boasts a long list of associates involved in the project which includes
Elvis' original guitarist, Scotty Moore. Pirzada, who's former projects include the
'Rubberneckin (Groove Mix)' and the 'Born To Rock (Remix)' claims that all
the tracks have been remastered and restored to their original Sun sound.

Mr. Rijff feels this about the collection; "Pirzada's (who?) sales-talk on
the site comes across to me as one from a second-hand car dealer. This
project with all it's claims and promises smells like a dead cheeseburger to me."

The first of 2 Sun collections from the 'Memphis Recording Service' also
claims to include a previously unreleased recording from 1954 as well as live
recordings.

But Mr.Rijff also has an opinion about the unreleased recording; "Can it be
that 'How Do You Think I Feel' (released on when all was kool) is the
mysterious unreleased Sun title on this cd?"

Ger Rijff went on; "If Pirzada (who?) had a real exclusive song to offer he
would give out the title now. Why wait if you have nothing to hide?"

Comments from Ernst Jorgensen about the SUN Projects.

''I have known for quite some time that Joseph is working on a SUN project,
and we have had
conversations about it, but apart from his stamper single I have no idea
what his materials are. The
"news" on the board reveals nothing, but obviously sounds exciting. I'm not
an expert on
the legal issues, but I assume that Joseph has done his home work. Although
I am producing a
project on the same subject (Elvis in 1953-55), I'm just as much of a fan as
the rest of you, and

welcome any unpublished material. I see that Joseph has a list of great
people helping - several of these people are also helping me, and one of the
greatest things for me in this project is that so many people have decided
to share their knowledge and materials - it seems that everybody realises
that it's time to forget about personal agendas, and help create the
historical document about these early times - we will all benefit from this.

Fort Baxter Classic Series.

The Fort Baxter label is aware that some producers are re-releasing some of
their CD's from the Profile box-sets with inferior artwork. We think the
fans deserve the best products and  decided to re-release some of those
concerts in very limited edition on the label '' Fort Baxter - Classic
Series ''.

All the re-release will come with full color booklets ( 12 pages ) and
improved sound from our original master tapes. The technology has changed
and this is now possible to improve several of those recordings originally
featured on the two box-sets '' A Profile - The King On Stage ''. Several
fans missed those sets back then and will now have the chance to obtain
these concerts from the original label. The first of the series will be ''
Kansas City Blues '' ( June 29th, 1974 evening show in Kansas City ). More
details will be given later.

"between 50 euro and 125 euro (160 dollar) each month, and 11 percent bought
for a total of 125 euro to 250 euro (325 dollar) CD's, books and memorabilia

Europe 2005, Cast Changes for Elvis-The Concert.

Cast updates for Elvis-The Concert's Europe 2005 Tour.

Ronnie Tutt is performing only at the Mohegan Sun Casino engagement on the
2005 tour.
In balancing career and personal commitments that have arisen, he will not
be on this year's tour of Europe. Ron has personally selected his friend and
colleague Paul Leim to rock the house in place.

As previously announced, health issues have forced Ed Hill of The Stamps
Quartet to drop out of the show. We wish him all the best with his recuperation.

Recently, on the Current Cast & Song Lineup page we posted the song list for
this year's tour.
Note that all the '68 Comeback Special and Aloha from Hawaii components of
the show now benefit from the remastering of the '68 and Aloha material for
last year's deluxe edition DVD releases.

The Current Cast & Song Lineup page soon will be updated with the cast
changes noted in this article.

Our Web site service provider has received this information and will make
the adjustment soon. The change would be in place now, but pages that are
seldom altered are not accessible from our staff computers at EPE, so we
have to send in changes to the service provider for those areas and we have
to wait our turn in the queue with the service's other clients. We wanted to
wait until that page was updated before posting this news item, but word has
leaked and we're getting e-mail inquiries about Ron.

Already posted is a cast addition. Superb guitarist Tony Smith has joined
the principal orchestra members as rhythm guitarist. He once subbed for lead
guitarist James Burton when James had a conflicting engagement for a show on
one of out tours a while back. We're pleased to welcome Tony back to the
show. Due to the unavailabilty of Elvis's original rhythm guitarist John
Wilkinson, there has not been a rhythm guitar position on any of our tours
before now. Tony Smith is endorsed by Indie Guitars and plays an ITC 6.

NEW LABEL 'MEMPHIS RECORDING SERVICE' TO RELEASE SUN BOX SET.
http://www.elvis-express.com/sitebuilder/images/ElvisMRS002b-

After making a quick call after having heard confirmation on the Sun FTD
release, a new Sun box set through a newly establised EU trademark label
'Memphis Recording Service' which now controls all the rights including the
original Logo's from the 1950.s is about to unveil there first release which
has been 3 years in the making.

To my understanding there will be 2 box sets that will cover the entire Sun
era. The first volume to be released in June 2005 will deal only in the
years 1953 - 1954. It will include what Mr Joseph Pirzada calls a 'super CD'
with all tracks remastered in original Sun sound and will include a
unreleased track from 1954 as well as live recordings. He promises a sound
never heard before that even FTD will not afford to package. Joseph has said
'our recording sources are much better than BMG can ever get'

With the package to my understanding, will also be a 7 inch vinyl record of
'Thats all Right' pressed from the original Master Mother stamper which will
be identical to the original 45rpm released by Sam Phillips in 1954 with all
the hallmarks and obviously the exact sound.

Included is a 200 page book containing unpublised photographs including
colour with documents never before seen during the 53- 54 which will include
the 'MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENT EVER FROM 1954' (I am not allowed to say what
that is at this stage) that has never before seen. All items will packaged
together within the Box set.

It is also understood that major contributions to this package include
Scotty Moore, Ed leek, John Heath, Joseph Tunzi, Stanley Oberst, Sheriff
Hanna, Russ Howe, Bud Glass are just the few that are involved in this
project. The book itself is written by Joseph Pirzada and John M Heath.

On speaking to Mr Pirzada he did say 'this is a package MADE BY THE FANS FOR
THE FANS and items contained in this package are never before seen and many
of the items contained in this package are completely out of the hands of
the FTD version due later in the year. We Elvis fans know what we want and
this time you are going to get it. There is absolutley no point on relying
on pen pushers because at the end of the day, they always let you down. I
wont let myself down, I know what I want as a fan. The main significance on
the FTD release is 1955. I want to make the best Sun package that can be had
which is why we are going into every detail to cover the 53-54 era. On
having spent 6 months last year in the mid -south in the USA on research I
am going to set the story straight. Every past book I have seen have just
got it wrong. The 1955 era will have to go on volume 2 which will be out
January 2006. Making both volumes the ultimate Sun collection. That will
have more unreleased tracks and will have a pressing from Sam Phillips
original Master plate 'Mystery Train'.

The price for the item apparently will be made very affordable!

Its also understood that these releases will be made available in shops of
HMV and Virgin in the UK.

With all the rare items 'Memphis Recording Service' have secured, it appears
they will not be on the FTD release.

Note:

Since when did Ernst Jorgensen gave us the complete list of songs for the
FTD SunBook&Cd release?
So how can this 'Memphis Recording Service' make the statement "With all the
rare items 'Memphis Recording Service' have secured, it appears they will
not be on the FTD release" .

Jerry is king for a song.

Chat show host Jerry Springer will get audiences all shook up when he
appears on Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes as Elvis Presley.
Springer has always been a huge fan of The King and jumped at the chance to

his hero.
For his appearance he wears a £10,000 rhinestone jumpsuit -- the most
expensive
costume ever designed for the ITV show.
And with a dark wig and shades, he is virtually unrecognisable as his usual
self.

Springer will croon I Can't Help Falling In Love on the April 2 show.

He said: "Elvis is one of my favourites. I'm from that generation where as a
kid we all started
combing our hair back like him.
I've only ever sung in the shower or performed for friends so this will be
the first time I will have sung in public.

"The make-up for Stars In Their Eyes is fantastic and I've got a ton on. My
eyebrows have been made pitch black and it's had the most startling effect.
Though it does seem rather a waste as I'm wearing sunglasses on the show!

"I love the costume and it's amazingly heavy. I guess they've done this
deliberately so I don't run away with it."

And he added: "I'm looking forward to performing but I don't expect that
I'll get a record contract out of it!"

Model Nell McAndrew also appears on the show as Kim Wilde.

She said: "I feel sick at the thought of performing. My stomach can't take
the nerves.

"Quite a few people have commented that I look like Kim Wilde, which I find
very flattering. I'm looking forward to getting into the outfit. I'm hoping to
hide behind the big hair and baggy jacket as I'm so nervous."

The show, hosted by Cat Deeley, will also feature Jade Goody's ex Jeff
Brazier as UB40's Ali Campbell, Bad Girls star Victoria Bush as Sixties singer Mama
Cass and The Bill's Vickie Gates as Maria McKee.

Playing Elvis.

Onte Tree Hill star Tyler Hilton realised a childhood dream when he played
the young Elvis Presley in forthcoming Johnny Cash biopic "Walk The Line".

Hilton, 21, tells MTV.COM of his audition, "They said, 'Do you know any
Elvis songs?' I did because he's one of my favourite musicians from when I
was a kid.

"Afterwards, the casting lady said, 'You know, I think we'll have you come
back and read some of Elvis' lines.'

"I was really nervous about it, but the more I thought about it, I'm such a
big Elvis fan, and I would have been bummed if anyone else got this part. I
would've been so jealous. So I was happy to take it and I had a good time,
too."

13-hour documentary on Elvis, "Tribute - Remembrances of the King."

Hi Everyone,

We are now to the point where we have completed the first 2 hours of our
13-hour documentary on Elvis, "Tribute - Remembrances of the King." A great
many people from all around the world have graciously offered to allow us to
use still pictures they have of Elvis or things related to Elvis in the
film. Because a substantial amount of the money that's raised from the sale
of the film will be given to charities Elvis was involved with, during his
life, we are not in a position to pay for pictures but we will certainly
give anyone who supplies us with pictures will see their name in the credits
of the film. Our only requirement, as we do not want to get into trouble
with EPE, is that any image we use must not be owned by anyone and you must
posses the rights to allow us to use it.

If you would like to help us, we would e-mail you a list of all the images
we need, as we need them and all you'd need to do (if you had any that
worked) is send us high res jpegs. If you'd like to help please let me know
as soon as possible. We anticipate needing about 80 images per hour so you
can see this is a huge undertaking. That said, we invite you to be part of
Elvis history and help us with a film that many who've seen the rough cut,
are already calling the best film on Elvis ever done. If you'd like to hear
more about the film type Ken Vrana and Elvis into your search engines.

Thanks so much

Talk about sequel to "Elvis" mini-series.

The production "Elvis" covers Elvis from ages 18 to 33, when he made his
now-fabled 1968 "comeback" appearance via an NBC special. So there could, of
course, be a sequel, particularly if Part 1 of Elvis somehow holds its own
against ABC's "Desperate Housewives." "They'd have to pay me a helluva lot
of money, baby!" Jonathan Rhys Meyers (who plays the part of Elvis), 27,
laughs during a break from filming. "I'd become Vegas Elvis then! I'd get my
own Colonel on it!" Then he downshifts. "I don't know. Let's see how this
one works first. I don't think it's an option right now. I'd have difficulty
putting on that weight, first of all. I'd have difficulty taking it off,
too." Many others have gone before him, including pacesetter Kurt Russell in
ABC's 1979 version of "Elvis." Don Johnson then gave it a go in 1981's
"Elvis and the Beauty Queen," and Dale Midkiff starred in 1988's "Elvis and
Me." ABC's 1990 weekly series "Elvis," also dramatized his early years, but
largely favorable reviews weren't enough to save it from a quick
cancellation. Its star, Michael St. Gerard, hasn't had a screen credit of
any kind since 1994's "Replikator."

Tupelo Elvis Festival Sings New Marketing Tune.

Organizers of the Tupelo Elvis Festival plan a new approach to marketing
this year that could dramatically increase ticket sales. If successful, the
change could propel the 7-year-old festival honoring the rock 'n' roll
legend back into the black after two straight losses. Elvis Presley was born
in Tupelo and later moved with his parents to Memphis, Tenn. Through a deal
with Clear Channel Communications and Dodge's Chicken stores, festival
organizer Jim High said he hopes to pre-sell 10,000 tickets. The most
tickets sold - before and during an event - was 8,500 last year. This year's
festival is June 3-5 and features a performance by Chuck Berry. Elvis
festival chairman Gary Bailey dismissed rumors that the event would end
unless it earns a profit this year, but said it eventually must start making
money. The event lost $2,642 in 2003 and $5,465 in 2004, the same year the
Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau halved its usual festival grant to
$50,000.

The doctors told his family that Ed Hill has lost his short-term memory.
They said he may eventually get it back - but it may take 3 months -
6-months or even a year or perhaps never. It just takes time to recuperate.

A response From Ernst Jorgensen On The MGM Acetate Jailhouse Rock.

This acetate has a superb sound  and is a  strange version of Jailhouse Rock
the intro is on Piano... NOT on drums !!!!
An MGM acetate  is dicovered by Jean Marc Gargiulo  "The  Official Fanclub

Treat Me Nice"  in France.

A response from Ernst Jorgensen  On The MGM Acetate Jailhouse Rock:

Andylon, It Seems like some sort of movie version.

Yes, this is a long Movie version from The MGM Acetate Jailhouse Rock.

It's not interesting - we better  try to concentrate on the real Elvis music
Andylon
and not so much the movie overdubs.

Current Song Lineup

Following is the song lineup the 2005 tour. There are a few song changes
since last few tours. The big change is that the Aloha from Hawaii and '68
Comeback material used in the show benefits from the excellent remastering
work that was done for the new DVD compilations released in 2004.

The Elvis performance footage comes from these programs: the Elvis (a.k.a.
the '68 Comeback) television special, the 1973 Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii, via
Satellite television special, and the MGM concert films Elvis, That's the
Way It Is (1970) and Elvis on Tour (1972). In parentheses after each song is
an indication of which program the Elvis performance comes from.

All our singers and musicians play live. The Elvis performance footage is
presented with virtually all the sound removed but for Elvis's voice. The
only pre-recorded music you hear in our show is Elvis Presley's voice and
what small amounts of the original accompanying music could not be removed
from the Elvis performance material.

Before Elvis There Was Nothing.

Releasedate May 15, 2005.
204 pages from the Author Laurie Foos at  "Coffee House Press",
(ISBN 156689168X)

"'A wonderful mixture of insecurity and insanity. Every line of Laurie Foos'
new novel is suffused with intelligence, wit and daring. Exhilarating!"-Fay
Weldon

A fabulist for the twenty-first century, Laurie Foos is back with a
whip-smart, refreshingly contemporary take on the nature of beauty, the
importance of appearance and the all-too-human cravings for friendship,
spiritual fulfillment and love.

A modern-day superwoman, Cass embodies the Elvis adage 'Taking Care of
Business'-from coping with the disappearance of her Elvis-obsessed parents
and caring for her agoraphobic sister to treating the folically-challenged
and avoiding the attentions of a perverse podiatrist-until the day a horn
sprouts from her forehead. As Cass seeks treatment for her unwelcome
appendage, she finds herself in a facility only Dr. Moreau could love. Join
the beautiful Cass as she plans her escape and, in the process, resolves her
physical and spiritual ailments, discovering more about herself than she
ever thought possible.

In a world gone mad, where we're all on display and our obligations and
obsessions are magnified by a voyeuristic culture, this feverishly hip,
comic caper is the perfect tonic-one that.

Elvis on coast still a mystery.

The "Elvis in Biloxi" jigsaw puzzle is coming together piece by piece, with
a few pieces still missing. In Ernst Jorgensen's latest research trip
through South Mississippi, he has picked up more pieces of the puzzle that
illustrates Elvis Presley's early years. For 18 months before Elvis became a
national star with "Heartbreak Hotel," the Mississippi native and his two
bandsmen performed anywhere that would have them. He spent at least six days
on the Coast, in concert at Keesler Air Force Base, Slavonian Lodge and
Biloxi Community House. In the music world, Jorgensen is The Elvis Hunter,
and his tenacity to compile the day-by-day accounts of Elvis' life has made
him a foremost authority. He lives in Denmark and is researcher-producer for
Elvis' record label RCA/FTD, now a subsidiary of Sony/BMG.

Jailhouse Rock London Staging to Close - The Musical Eyes Broadway.

Jailhouse Rock might actually soon rock to the "Jailhouse Rock." The London
musical version of the famous Elvis Presley movie has so far been unable to
use any of the film's classic Lieber and Stoller songs (it uses generic
songs of the period instead). However, its forthcoming American production
has, after more than a year of haggling, been granted the rights. The news
comes at a welcome time for the show. The London staging is due to close at
the Piccadilly Theatre on April 23 to make way for the Ewan
McGregor-starring production of Guys and Dolls. There had been speculation
that Jailhouse Rock might simply theatre hop. However, the producer Alan
Janes and director Rob Bettinson have decided to close the show in the U.K.
to concentrate on developing the new version for the U.S. (where Rene
Sheridan will co-produce). It is hoped that the U.S. version, if successful,
will spawn a U.K. tour in 2006. After that, a West End return is the aim.
Janes said in a statement, "It is sad to be coming to the end of the London
run, but what we do have to look forward to is coming back to London with a
completely new version of the show - and the song that has until now eluded
us!"

Keep The Fire Burning CD Import CD Now Released.

The new CD from the import label Audionics is released.

It contains a previously unreleased soundboard recording of Elvis' tour
closing show in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on May 7th, 1975.

The concert is 60 minutes long and the recording is complete and unedited,
which is rare for Elvis 1975 soundboard tapes. This CD includes a 12-page
full color booklet with several various and unusual photographs taken during

Elvis was in good voice and in a great mood that night, as is evidenced by
his humorous remarks and his excellent performance. One of the highlights is
a dynamite version of "Burning Love", and for the 'one-liner freaks' amongst
you there's a one-liner of "Alfie".

In The Press - "Elvis: Born To Rock" Book.

"Elvis - Born To Rock"
(Praytome Publishing/ Bud Glass Production)

The book lying before me includes Elvis pictures from July 19th 1975 and as
a bonus also pictures from 1976. Would you mind? Pictures of Elvis from the
years 1975 and 1976?

Maybe the generality would be shivering. In all probability they would name
all the prejudices about Elvis that they know: Elvis was fat and lost his
own accord, Elvis was a miserable drug addict, Elvis was almost a living
dead in his last days and so on and so on.
You could go on with all these stereotyped ideas.
The attempt to disprove these clichés is almost ineffective.
All those yellow press-reports about Elvis - even in his lifetime were
mostly ungracious (f.e. "fat and forty") - and the sensationalism by authors
like Albert Goldmann ("Elvis" & "Elvis - The Last 24 Hours") still have big
influence on the public opinion about Elvis nowadays.
Even Elvis Presley Enterprises has obviously difficulties to accept the
fact, that Elvis didn't die after Hawaii 1973.

Elvis in 1975. All those who are familiar with the live-recordings from
Uniondale on July 19th 1975, will know what to expect from this book.
It opens with a foreword from Al Dvorin, who died in a car accident short
time ago. He remembers the co-operation with Elvis, which started in 1955 as
he became acquainted with Colonel Parker. His foreword leads over to the
foreword from Paul Larsen, who was present at the afternoon show on this
particular date - July 19th 1975.

The afternoon show is treated with a comprehensive documentation.
It starts with a picture, that shows Presley as he left the JFK Hilton Hotel
on his way to perform the afternoon show - and it ends with a picture from
the end of the concert. What you get inbetween? Pictures, pictures and even
more pictures.
In comparison with other books the most obvious difference is the quality of
the majority of the used photos, which is nothing less than superb.
Not alone the motives which are mostly unpublished - especially the
full-paged close-ups - are convincing, even the paper-quality and the
printing are first-class.
Nearly all pictures are very sharp - which is very impressive with regard of
the fact that Elvis moved a lot in this concert.
The same goes for the quality of the private candids, which are very good.
Partly the material gets short explanations.
Also you can read the monologues and the band-introductions that were done
by Elvis during the afternoon show - plus pictures from that particular
moment of the show.
In addition to that, you have full pages - called "Elvis-Trivia" - which are
revealing, if you want to know for example which jumpsuit did Elvis wear
during the show, why he gave away scarfs and so on and so on.
This part of the book finishes with excerpts of a concert review from John
Rockwell, which was published in the New York Times at that time.

The next chapter about the evening show is presented in a similar manner.
First you got an oversight of all the songs Elvis performed during the show,
which was also done for the afternoon show in the first chapter.
At this point it should be said, if one never heard the concert presented on
the import "America's Own Vol. 2", than this should be changed as fast as
possible.
The concert is nothing less then breathtaking and presents the only known
live-recording of "You'll never walk alone" with Elvis on piano offering a
topnotch performance.
Exactly this concert is also comprehensivly documented throughout the second
chapter of "Born To Rock".
Elvis changed the overall and wore the gypsy-jumpsuit for the evening show,
after he had worn the aztec-jumpsuit on the afternoon performance.
Because of the high quality of the photos it looks much more colorful and
very impressive.
On every page you can see unpublished pictures, which are showing an Elvis,
who has nothing to do with all those stereotyped ideas that circulated after
1973 until today.
He looks good, he is obviously in a very good mood - and judging on the
pictures - he is very active on stage.
The import CD confirms the pictures and the pictures are confirming the CD.
In the second chapter you also got printed monologues, the band
introductions added with fitting pictures from the introductions and also
full-paged "Elvis Trivia" inserts.
Beyond dozens and dozens of impressive photos, one special photo should be
mentioned here: a photo that shows Elvis in his gypsy-jumpsuit, sitting at
the piano - photographed during the performance of "You'll never walk
alone"! How can you ask for more?
This part closes also with excerpts from newspaper reviews.

After that a summary follows about the tour-dates from Elvis in 1975 - added
with lots of candid-shots: Elvis in the hotel, Elvis backstage, Elvis at the
airport etc.etc. - the quality of them is unquestionable good.
The chapter is closing with a private story by the photographer John Faro,
who travelled together with his wife from New York to Memphis to meet Elvis.
The story gets completed with fitting candid-shots from the meeting.
A survey about the recording sessions, single- and LP-releases in the year
1975 and a general view from the year 1975 are closing this chapter.

Next is the bonus-section, which documents the concert from July 27th in
Largo, Maryland. Needless to say that it is done in a comprehensive way.
Like before you got a summary about the tracklisting, musicians and the
back-up singers. Similar to the concerts from 1975 it starts with pictures
from the beginning of the concert.
In comparison to the pictures from July 1975 you have to say, that Elvis has
gained weight through the year. Also you have to admit that Elvis looks in
his blue bicentennial jumpsuit only "puffy", but not really fat.
The picture material gets completed by printed monologues from the
performance. The bonus-section, which offers also high quality photos, gets
closed with a concert review by Phil Gelormine ("Crocodile Rock meets
Jailhouse Rock"). Partly the review tells the story from a backstage meeting
of Elvis and Elton John before the concert.
If the publishing of the pictures from Largo '76 contradict the wellknown
clichés about Elvis the same way the pictures from July 1975 are doing is
maybe questionable, but in every case the photos are doing one thing for
sure - they're showing an entertainer, who's doing his job after 22 years
still and obviously with great enjoyment.

Before the book was released they were discussions and arguments, that the
book would be to expensive. To sum it up: There's no kind of pressure to buy
Elvis-books, Elvis-CD's or other Elvis related material, so that everyone
can decide for him-/herself, if he wants something or not. In this case the
only thing that can be discussed is the context, not the product itself.
What you get is a more than a pleasant product that convinces in its
entirety: that goes for the high-quality paper, the printing, all the rare
photos (most of them in color, less in black/white) and nontheless in its
circumference with 150 pages. The price for the book is much more like a
inducement to buy it when you see it. Highly recommended!

An evening featuring comedy and Elvis is being held at the club's Windsor
Room. Elvis fans are in for a treat as a look-alike, Elvis Brettini, aka
Damian Brett, will be performing at the event. Damian was enticed from a
career as a successful tri-lingual sales professional to become a tribute to
the King of Rock and Roll. His professionally trained vocal skills developed
during his early years singing in his school choir and have allowed him to
sing just like Elvis. "People know what they want from an act like mine,"
said Damian. "They know the difference between a good Elvis and a bad Elvis.
Damian has performed all over Europe and the US, including appearances at
the Stardust in Las Vegas, as well as the International Elvis Convention in
Nashville, Tennessee.

Minors not welcome at Lisa Marie's concert.

The new CD of Lisa Marie Presley is hitting the shelves this week. As said
before, the record will be available in two formats: one with explicit
lyrics, and one with clean (censored) versions of the same song. Because
Lisa obviously isn't afraid to use bad language, it was decided that minors
(under 19) are not welcome at her next show (May 12th, Casino Rama -
Ontario). Everybody attending the concert, needs to be able to show a
picture ID. The record sales apparently do not suffer from the controversy
surrounding "Now What". The CD entered at number 5 in the Billboard Chart list.

Bubba Ho-Tep 2 update.

The second Bubba Ho-Tep film is tentatively called Nosferatu: Curse of the
She-Vampires. Set in the late 1960s, soon after Elvis Presley starred in
Clambake, this movie will present the comedy/horror adventures of the King
of Rock and Roll when he was in his early 30s (rather than the senior
citizen version that starred in Bubba Ho-Tep). Looking to get away from
movie sets, Elvis heads down to New Orleans looking for a good time, and
encounters usage of black magic, voodoo and (presuming from the title)...
she-vampires. The producers have also revealed plans for a third Bubba
Ho-Tep film and that it may be called Bubba Sasquatch and depict Elvis
Presley adventures in the north woods, helping someone fight off a pack of
bloodthirsty Bigfoots.

Elvis' Texas Mystery.

Tyler and East Texas hold a significant place in Elvis Presley's rise to
stardom. That is why Brian Petersen, a Presley fan and author who lives in
Sweden, recently e-mailed the Tyler Morning Telegraph for help.

He is working on his second book about Presley's early career, with the help
of Ernst Jorgensen, an RCA/BMG producer. However, Petersen stumbled onto
what he thought could be a discrepancy.

Petersen has two photos of Presley performing; one that is said to have been
taken at the Mayfair Building at the East Texas State Fairgrounds, and
another supposedly taken at the Reo Palm Isle Club in Longview. Yet, both
pictures had the same unusual ceiling in the background. Petersen thought
the ceiling was too distinct to be in both buildings.

Presley played several gigs in East Texas during 1955 with the Louisiana
Hayride, a tour presented by Shreveport radio station KWKH, and a disc
jockey from Gladewater's KSIJ station, Tom Perryman.

Petersen knows this because he has a copy of an advertisement about the
Hayride show dates and times in Tyler, Hawkins, Gilmer, Longview and Gaston.

He said the ad came from the Tyler paper and with further investigation, the
ad was found in the newspaper archives at the Smith County Historical
Society. The ad ran on page nine in the Sunday edition of the Tyler
Courier-Times--Telegraph on Jan 23, 1955.

Petersen knew Presley performed at both the Mayfair and the Reo around the
same time but the question still remained if both the pictures were from the
same place.

Who better to ask then the man who promoted Presley in East Texas during
that time - Perryman, now a morning DJ on KKUS 104.1 FM "The Ranch" in
Tyler?

"Elvis' first day he ever worked in Texas was in Gladewater on Highway 271
at the Mint Club," Perryman said.

Presley joined the Hayride tour in the fall of 1954 but some of the dates
fell through, and the promoter in Shreveport called Perryman for help.

"He asked me if I knew of somewhere Elvis, Scotty and Bill could play on
short notice," Perryman said. "I said 'Yes' and put them in Gladewater."

That night, Perryman's wife, Billie, sold tickets at the door and they
pulled in $90.

Perryman said there was no recorded date of this performance because it was
only advertised on the radio a few times.

"Usually I would keep 15 percent of the profits for plugging the gig on the
radio but I gave it all to Elvis," Perryman said. "And he never forgot."

When Presley came through East Texas on the Hayride tour again in 1955 with
Jim Ed and Maxine Brown, Perryman served as the master of ceremonies.

"I probably was the only hillbilly disc jockey playing Elvis' record," he
said.

Hitting The Ceiling

While providing insight into Presley's beginnings in Texas, Perryman
couldn't say for sure that the photos were taken at the Mayfair Building.

Next in line for clarification was Alice Emmons, East Texas State Fair
general manager.

"He played in my high school gym when I was a junior," said Mrs. Emmons, who
attended school in Hawkins.

The fairgrounds building 'expert' studied the photographs and confirmed they
were taken in the Mayfair Building - water spot stains on the ceiling in one
photo gave it away for certain.

To this day, the unusual pattern on the ceiling is still evident. Petersen
was pleased to hear the confirmation.

"Elvis was and still is the greatest performing artist ever, and we feel
that it is time that the record be set straight as to his rising to
superstardom," Petersen said. "July 1954 through December 1955 is the period
in Elvis' career we know the least about. We hope to be able to change
this."

Petersen's first book, "The Atomic Powered Singer," details Presley's
whereabouts during 1956.

He began writing about Presley's gigs after reading a book called "Long
Lonely Highway" by Ger Rijff, a Dutch writer.

"It was sort of a scrapbook with pictures and articles about Elvis in the
1950s, and I started going through all my books and magazines making a list
of all the shows Elvis did back then," Petersen said. "Soon I discovered
that different books place him in different states on the same dates."

Petersen, an air traffic controller, started writing to libraries all over
the United States and borrowed microfilmed newspapers from 1954 through
1958.

"Going through page after page, day after day, week after week and month
after month, I spent thousands of hours doing research," he said.

Petersen even spent four weeks looking at archives in New York, Raleigh,
N.C., Memphis, Little Rock, Dallas, Austin, Baton Rouge and Biloxi Miss to
find "hidden gigs."

"In 1994 I felt I had sufficient information to put 1956 on paper," he said.

The result was a 240-page book "that set the record straight for the first
time ever according to Elvis' whereabouts during that year," he said. "I
came up with no less than 40 dates that had never been printed in any book
before."

His book was only sold through Elvis fan clubs, and due to the fact an
American author put out a book six months later dealing with the same issue,
the book never hit the US market.

"I still sit on 400 copies but would need one person to take the whole lot
in order to make it cheap for them to buy," Petersen said. "The postage to
the United States is far too expensive for single book orders."

For the next book, Petersen is looking for more advertisements, ticket
stubs, photographs and personal stories about Presley from 1954 to 1955.

"We are interested in everything the readers can tell us and everything they
can show us," he said.

Petersen's e-mail is bripet56@yahoo.dk.

Elvis Rocks the Wine Charts.
Hottest Small Brand of the Year; Wine Business Monthly Magazine Honors
Graceland Cellars.

HAYWARD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2005--According to a leading wine
industry magazine, Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll(R), is fast
becoming a monarch of the grape. In its latest issue, Wine Business Monthly
magazine named Graceland(R) Cellars one of the hottest small wine brands of
the year. The winery launched the first-ever vintages of Jailhouse Red
Merlot, The King Cabernet Sauvignon and Blue Suede Chardonnay in 2004 and
quickly established retail distribution in 40 states. A special 4,000 case
holiday release of Blue Christmas Cabernet Sauvignon sold out within days
last November.

"The response from consumers, distributors, and retailers has been
overwhelming," said Scott Cahill, CEO of Graceland Cellars' parent Signature
Wines. "There is no reason why good wine can't also be fun. The combination
of high quality wines and the Elvis(R) brand has really struck a chord with
consumers."

Graceland Cellars gained award-winning status last year with three medals:
The 2001 Jailhouse Red Merlot won gold and silver, respectively, at the
International Eastern Wine Competition and the Riverside International Wine
Competition. The 2001 King Cabernet Sauvignon won a bronze medal at the
Dallas Morning News Wine Competition.

The Year of Elvis

With the debut of a major Broadway production based on Elvis' tunes later
this month and the premiere of a biographical miniseries on CBS in May,
Graceland Cellars is poised for major growth as interest in all things Elvis
reaches new heights. Graceland(R) Cellars plans to add new labels and
products to the line to support existing distributors, and will continue to
expand distributor relationships. Major retail chains currently stocking
Graceland Cellars' Elvis Presley(R) line include Kroger's, Cost Plus, and
many regional chains.

In addition to its retail line, Graceland Cellars offers the Elvis Presley
Private Collection, a selection of wines bearing unique labels featuring

Elvis exhibit to grace next State Fair.

After nearly 50 years, the spirit of Elvis will return this year to the
State Fair of Texas - or at least his red crushed-velvet bedspread will.

The bedspread, which once lay on the King's 9-by-9-foot bed in Graceland,
will be among 250 Elvis artifacts on display at the Hall of State when the
fair opens next fall.  So will the "Tree of Life" pendant that friends gave
Elvis for his 30th birthday - which became his favorite piece of jewelry -
and the Drug Enforcement Administration badge he received from President
Richard Nixon.

Then there are the garish rings, his Army induction papers and his employee
identification from Precision Tool Co., where he held his first job.

And what would an Elvis extravaganza be without the King's white two-piece
leather suit he wore in a Las Vegas floor show?

The items will be the centerpiece of an exhibit dedicated to the history of
rock 'n' roll and organized by the Dallas Historical Society. It will also
pay tribute to Texas musicians who influenced Mr. Presley and those who were
influenced by him.

But there will be no mistaking the center of attention.

"The Elvis artifacts are what are going to grab people," said Alan Olson,
the society's director of collections. "The other stuff is nice, but what
people are going to come out to see is Elvis."

Mr. Olson said fair organizers decided on the musical theme after a series
of years when the top historical draws were exhibits on Bonnie and Clyde,
World War II and the assassination of President Kennedy.

"We thought we'd do something this year to get away from death and
destruction," he said.

The Elvis artifacts are part of "The King's Ransom," a traveling exhibit
assembled by three longtime collectors. Russ Howe, one of the three
partners, said the artifacts were accumulated over 30 years.

"It started out as a hobby and became a sickness," he said.

A fan then and now: Betty Pitcock, 77, looks forward to a reunion with Elvis
at the fair. Mr. Howe's favorite part of the collection is the Bible found
on the singer's nightstand the day he died.

"I like it because it's so personal," he said. "You look at it, and you can
see all the verses he underlined."

Among those who have vowed to see the Fair Park exhibit is Betty Pitcock,
who attended the Elvis Presley concert at the Cotton Bowl on Oct. 21, 1956.

Ms. Pitcock, 77, who lives near White Rock Lake, said: "I don't remember
many details about it, other than that he was wonderful. He was just like he
was advertised on television."

Although Elvis was still at an early stage in his career and not quite
respectable to mainstream tastes, he received an enthusiastic reception at
the State Fair.

"They say women threw their panties at his feet, but I don't remember
anything like that," Ms. Pitcock said. "We weren't in seats close enough
where we could see the bottom of his legs, so I can't say for sure."

At the end of the concert, people just "cheered and cheered and cheered."

Ms. Pitcock was among them.

"I was a fan then," she said, "and I've never stopped being a fan."

Two New Czech Releases.

Memory Records will soon release two new CD's. You can find hereunder
excerpts from the booklets and track listings.

Elvis finished the year of 1976 with a string of inspired, high-energy
performances culminating in a fantastic New Years Eve celebration in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This renewed vitality gave hope for the future.
However, during January of 1977, the state of affairs became worse than ever
before. Probably due to personal problems with Ginger, Elvis cancelled an
already scheduled recording session in Nashville as he was in no mood for
recording. The February tour started in the southern states and some fans
were shocked when they saw Elvis during the first few shows. The second tour
of the year was cut short after the Alexandria, Louisiana concert on the
30th of March due to illness.

We have chosen a somewhat typical show from the third tour: Green
Bay, Wisconsin April 28, 1977. There are no signs that the singer is
overmedicated, "out of it" or vocally weak.  Rather the opposite, Elvis'
voice is strong and he is in a cheerful mood. It is apparent that Elvis is
physically tired as he asks Sherrill Nielsen to sing his two numbers rather
early in the show and there are no traditional power ballads, i.e. "Hurt" or
"Unchained Melody" before the show closing. It was a 1976/1977 "tradition"
that Elvis butcher the majority of his 50s oldies, but this evening he gives
equal effort to all songs: rock, ballad and country. Among the best
performances of this Green Bay show are the semi-autobiographical "You Gave
Me A Mountain" and an especially poignant version of "My Way".

Track listing :

01. Also Sprach Zarathustra 02. C. C. Rider 03. I Got A Woman/Amen (medley)
04. Love Me 05. If You Love Me (Let Me Know) 06. You Gave Me A Mountain 07.

(medley) 13. My Way  14. Band Introductions 15. Early Mornin' Rain  16. Lead

Bass Solo (Blues - Jerry Scheff)  19. Piano Solo (Tony Brown) 20. Electric
Piano Solo (Bobby Ogdin) 21. School Day (Hail Hail Rock'n'Roll) 22. Hawaiian
Wedding Song 23. Hound Dog 24. Funny How Time Slips Away 25. Can't Help

Bonus tracks (recorded 02.06.1977 in Mobile, Alabama,  Municipal
Auditorium):27. An American Trilogy (last live version) 28. Polk Salad Annie
(last live version) 29. Unchained Melody (Elvis at piano).

In early 1974, after the indespensable rehearsal sessions, a new Las Vegas
season began on January 26 with a very good, if somewhat sedate opening
night (released in 2002 as "Something Old, Something New", Memory Records CD
MR 2028-2). With the exception of some short jokes, Elvis restricted his on
stage monologues to a minimum and unlike September 1973, he paid full
attention to his vocal control. He strengthened the repertoire with recent
Stax Studio recordings "Help Me" and "Spanish Eyes" in which he added an
extra "Old Mexico" verse not found in his studio version. Also, older songs
i.e. "Sweet Caroline" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" were revived and
performed on a regular basis once again. Other "newies" included the
beautiful gospel song "Why Me Lord", sung as a duet with bass singer J. D.
Sumner, and his very favorite Olivia Newton-John tune "Let Me Be There"
where Elvis reprised the ending often due to terrific audience response.

The midnight concert from February 8 was chosen for this release to
illustrate the atmosphere of the season's progression. After three somewhat
predictable opening cuts, "Trying To Get To You" is the first excellent
performance and it's nice to hear Elvis giving a full effort to this old Sun
Studio song. "Suspicious Minds" is performed with the power, but the real
enthusiasm as heard in 1969 and 1970 is missed here. "Help Me" can be
considered the very best song of the show. It's pure joy to listen to the
magic of Elvis' voice during this song.

Track listing :

01. Also Sprach Zarathustra 02. C. C. Rider 03. I Got A Woman / Amen
(medley) 04. Love Me 05. Tryin' To Get To You 06. Sweet Caroline
07. Love Me Tender 08. Johnny B. Goode 09. Hound Dog (with reprise) 10.
Fever 11. Polk Salad Annie 12. Killing Me Softly (by Voice) 13. Spanish Eyes
(incomplete) 14. Why Me Lord 15. Suspicious Minds (with false start) 16.
Band Introductions 17. Celebrity Introductions 18. Blueberry Hill (false
start only) 19. I Can't Stop Loving You 20. Help Me 21. An American Trilogy
22. Let Me Be There (with reprise) 23. Can't Help Falling In Love 24.
Closing Vamp.

Bonus tracks (recorded in Las Vegas 27.01.1974 Dinner show):25. You've Lost
That Lovin' Feelin' 26. Sweet Caroline 27. Long Tall Sally / Whole Lotta
Shakin' Goin' On / Mama Can't Dance / Flip, Flop And Fly / Jailhouse Rock /
Hound Dog (medley) 28. Spanish Eyes.

New Historical Exhibit On Elvis's LifeIin Memphis.

Visitors to Graceland this year will be treated to an extraordinary new
exhibit about Elvis's life in Memphis, featuring several mural-size Don
Newman photographs taken in the late 30's, 40's, 50's and displayed with
Elvis artifacts from the Graceland Archives. The "Elvis Presley's Memphis"
exhibit is located in the Sincerely Elvis Museum in the visitor center
complex across the street from Graceland Mansion. The exhibit, which will be
in place for one year, explores Elvis Presley's ties to the city he loved
and called home, and was mounted with the support of Memphis Heritage, a
local historical organization.

The new exhibit includes a downtown Goldsmith's department store display
featuring a Newman photo of the Main Street landmark from the days when
Elvis shopped at the city's finest store. Items in that display include a
record cabinet, a phone lamp and a black circular chair with leopard print
seat cushion - all purchased by Elvis at the downtown Goldsmith's - plus
samples from Elvis's personal record collection.

The exhibit follows the life of Elvis in Memphis through other displays such
as The Claridge Hotel, Lansky Bros., Mid-South Coliseum, Lowenstein's and
the Sears superstore on Cleveland. The Britling's Cafeteria display is
dedicated to Elvis's mother Gladys, who once worked at the local restaurant,
and offers a rare look at some of her personal effects and the Presley's
1953 tax return.

The exhibit was made possible with the help of Memphis Heritage. The
organization's annual fundraising Memphis Heritage calendar is sponsored
entirely by Elvis Presley Enterprises, and is a unique 18-month edition
featuring Newman photographs of Memphis as they relate to Elvis and the
Memphis he knew. The content is supplemented by anecdotes and images of
artifacts and documents from the Graceland Archives. The calendar is
available on www.memphisheritage.org and in Graceland stores and elsewhere
in the city.

Like a Prince from Another Planet.

New on the market is the picture book "Like a Prince from Another Planet".
The title refers to a news paper article from June 1972, in which a reporter
for the New York Times describes one of the Elvis concerts in Madison Square
Garden. Contrary to the title may indicate, the book contains late seventies
shots only (1975-1977).

Keep The Fire Burning.

The Audionics label, which released "El Goes El Paso" last January, will
soon release another new soundboard CD, titled "Keep The Fire Burning". This
release will contain a previously unreleased soundboard recording of Elvis'
tour closing show in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on May 7th, 1975. The concert
is 60 minutes long and the recording is complete and unedited, which is rare
for Elvis 1975 soundboard tapes. Like "El Goes El Paso", this CD includes a
12-page full color booklet with several various and unusual photographs
taken during April/May 1975 tour, as well as informative linernotes. Elvis
was in good voice and in a great mood that night, as is evidenced by his
humorous remarks and his excellent performance. One of the highlights is a
dynamite version of "Burning Love", and for the 'one-liner freaks' amongst
you there's a one-liner of "Alfie". "Keep The Fire Burning" is set for
release in March.

More on Elvis' coffin pillow.

Southpaw posted the following message:

According to Joe E. the only thing removed from the casket was the TCB ring
that he took off for Vernon and handed it to Vernon before the casket was
closed. Also Larry Geller just sent this to verify his view of the events.
"There is a lot of so-called Elvis memorabilia that suddenly pops up for
sale. Here we go again! I was standing there when Joe took the TCB ring off
Elvis' finger and gave it to Vernon. Nothing else was removed before the
casket lid was closed. It's as simple as that. Larry."

Elvis tribute to move into bigger venue.

Those blue suede shoes are hitting the road. San Jose Stage Company has
announced it will produce "Idols of the King',' a musical tribute to Elvis,
at the newly restored 1,100-seat California Theatre this summer instead of
at the company's own 200-seat home. San Jose Stage officials cited strong
group ticket sales, better acoustics and more backstage breathing room as
reasons for the change. The musical, which spins around hits such as
"Heartbreak Hotel'' and "Jailhouse Rock'', will be at the California July 13
through Aug. 7. Single tickets are $25 to $60 and will go on sale in March.

Presley, Tarantino Air 'Dirty Laundry'

"Kill Bill" and "Pulp Fiction" director Quentin Tarantino isn't just
directing the finale of CSI, as previously reported. I can tell you that he
also signed on to guide Lisa Marie Presley through her video for her new
single.

Tarantino has directed Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley, the king of rock
'n' roll, in a version of Don Henley's old hit, "Dirty Laundry." A sneak
audio peek of "Dirty Laundry" can be heard in promos for ABC's "Desperate
Housewives."

Tarantino once told an interviewer that when he met Lisa Marie years ago he
was "star struck." Evidently, it stuck.

Also Ernst told me he really feels sad that Kevan has made this decision.

I feel responsible to Kevan & Ernst not to publish any further information

Is it really the pillow from Elvis' coffin?

Doubt has been shed on the authenticity of the pillow recently listed on
eBay (see Saturday 26 February 2005) - "From Marion Cocke, Elvis' nurse: I
actually think this to be a piece of crap - first - I WAS THERE and his head
was on a pillow - I drove to the cemetary with Bob Kendall - he drove - and
after the service he drove us back to the house - the only way that he could
have removed the pillow was to go back to the cemetary after he took us back
to the house - and I just don't believe that he would have done that - and -
Bob Kendall was divorced from this woman and he died seveeral years ago -
its hard for me to believe that he did this and when he would have had the
opportunity to do so!! - am gonna forward this on to GK".

Cher honors Elvis.

As part of her Farewell Tour show, Cher acknowledges Elvis, although as the
following excerpt from a concert review indicates, not everyone is impressed:

"But the true musical low-point was Cher claiming Elvis Presley as her first
true hero, and then honouring him not with one of Presley's own gems, but
with her version of the atrocious 1991 Marc Cohn song (Who? Exactly!)
Walking in Memphis."
