Ladies and Gentlemen,
dear Elvis Fans,
again we put a lot of work and money in one of our projects and are
now
proud and glad to present it to you. This time more than 150 pages

waiting for the fan - in the well known high grade of all products
of
Praytome Publishing. A hard cover book printed on a heavy premium
paper with
a special print finishing for a higher print quality, longevity and

impassivity.
More than 170 excellent shots of a professional photographer plus
more than
60 candids as a perfect foil to them. The professional shots of
three
concerts in a breathtaking quality will give you a "first row
feeling". The
candids complete the historic view with background information,
funny or
remarkable situations on stage and Elvis off stage in many little
occurrences happend around the tour of July 1975. It is a perfect
composition to turn back the time and to dip into a period were
Elvis rule
the world and enthuses the masses.
In 1975 Elvis was not the "Rock ´n´ Roll boy" from 1954
any longer, but
against all prophecies of doom this book is the evidence, that Elvis
Presley
has been at the top of his carreer by then. That the former young
firebrand
has evolved into a man and has become the one and only "King of
Entertainment" forever. Through all generations and social
levels he has
been the undisputable King.
As always Bud Glass has not only searched and compiled the photos.
He gives
us substantial background knowledge about every single picture, the
concerts
and the appropriate period of 1975.
When we brought
out the book "Elvis Behind The Image" with high grade
materials and manufacturing, positive information and photos in the
best
possible quality at a reasonable price, we took a route, which we
kept on
moving with this new product.

Hendrix Gets Best
Cover Honour.
Jimi Hendrix's
reworking of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower has been
named the best cover version of all time topping a list of 50 covers
selected by Daily Telegraph music critics.
Pet Shop Boys came in second with their 1987 version of Elvis
Presley's You
Were Always on My Mind and Sid Vicious's version of My Way was No 3.
Justifying the selection the critics said Hendrix's version of a
from
Dylan's John Wesley Harding album completely outgunned the original.

"The
Elvis Story" To Play Montreal in April/May 2005.
A while back, a
French-Canadian production team obtained licensing and
assistance from EPE for a Broadway-style Elvis musical they had
created. The
Elvis Story has played to sell-out crowds each season at Le Capitole
de
Quebec Theatre in Quebec City for over a decade. Occasionally, the
show is
engaged in other cities. In April and May of 2005, The Elvis Story
will play
the St-Denis Theatre in Montreal.
The cast and production team have done a fine job bringing the life
and
career story of Elvis Presley to the stage. Learn more about this
production
and get all the details about the Montreal engagement on the show's
web
site: www.elvisstory.com. Do
catch this highly enjoyable production if you
can.

Chinese surrender
to the "King of the Cats"
Beijing and Shanghai are all shook up by a red-haired,
hip-swivelling
Canadian 'Elvis,'
At the height of the Cultural Revolution, a young Chinese woman
named Chen
Shuzhen caught a glimpse of Elvis Presley in an illicit film. It was
love at
first sight. For more than 30 years, she secretly nurtured the dream
of
seeing the American pop idol. But throughout his lifetime, the music
of the
man known to the Chinese as Mao Wang -- the King of the Cats -- was
banned
by the Communist authorities.
This weekend, at the age of 62, Chen finally fulfilled her dream.
Clutching
a pair of binoculars to make sure she wouldn't miss a single
swivelling hip
or curled lip, the grey-haired chemistry engineer sat transfixed
among an
enthusiastic crowd of fans in a Beijing concert hall, watching the
first
official Elvis musical ever to perform in China.
"It was worth spending a month's income on a ticket to sit here,"
she said.
"I never had a chance to see him when he was alive, but now I'm
getting the
chance. I feel like I've been transported to the America of the
1970s."
Almost half a century after the first eruption of Elvis mania in
North
America, the King finally arrived in Beijing this weekend. And in a
slightly
surprising twist, he was Canadian.
Martin Fontaine, the star of The Elvis Story, is a red-haired
French-Canadian rock singer who has become perhaps the world's most
successful Elvis performer. For almost a decade he has been the
centrepiece
of a Quebec City production of The Elvis Story that has toured the
planet,
playing to capacity crowds in France, Japan, the United States and
now
China. The show generates more than $20-million in annual tourist
spending
in Quebec City alone, where it plays to 120,000 spectators every
summer.
Critics have sneered at the show.
When it played Toronto in 1997 in its English-language premiere, the
reviews
were scathing. The Globe and Mail called it cheesy and embarrassing
-- an
"utter failure." The Toronto Star called it a glorified
nightclub act and a
bad impersonation of a musical. Its legions of fans didn't care.
Since then,
the show has gone from strength to strength.
With a cast and crew of 24 Canadians, the production has played
hundreds of
shows in Paris, Tokyo, Osaka, and even in Biloxi, Miss. -- not far
from the
birthplace of the King himself. Promoters are talking to the Quebec
producers about a possible return visit to China and more shows next
year in
Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. In Shanghai earlier this month,
the
musical played its biggest-ever venue, an 8,000-seat stadium, where
it
managed to fill two-thirds of the seats.
And in Beijing this weekend, despite minimal publicity, four
performances of
The Elvis Story sold 70 to 90 per cent of the tickets at the
1,300-seat Poly
Theatre, one of the city's biggest concert halls. Most Chinese fans,
unlike
those in Japan or the West, had never heard of Elvis during his
lifetime or
even in the years after his death.
None of his albums was officially released in China until 1991. But
in
China's new capitalist era, the King of the Cats is hugely popular.
His most
instantly recognized song here is Love Me Tender, popular in karaoke
bars
and often used in school textbooks to teach English. Tickets for the
Elvis
musical were quickly snapped up in Beijing this weekend, despite
prices of
up to $170 per ticket -- far higher than in other countries.
Teenagers
brought their parents to introduce them to the music. Young female
fans
squealed and fought for the sweat-soaked scarves that Fontaine
tossed into
the crowd. "We love you Elvis," they screamed.
"I feel that I'm right in the middle of something I don't quite
understand,"
Fontaine said in an interview yesterday. "We're pioneers here.
The crowds
are getting bigger and bigger. Maybe it's curiosity, maybe it's
because
we're foreign and they think we are exotic, but the people are very
excited.
It's been very satisfying." Chinese newspapers gave rave
reviews to the
show. "Martin Fontaine is so much like Mao Wang, in his makeup
and costume
and singing and dancing, that he could almost be regarded as the
real
thing," one Beijing newspaper wrote.
The fans were ecstatic. "Before the show, I didn't know much
about Mao Wang,
but it was a wonderful evening," said Zhou Jing, a 22-year-old
Beijing
woman. "Everyone in the audience was high. I was excited
throughout the
show." Karen Jiang, a 34-year-old fan, recalled her shock when
she
encountered Presley's music for the first time.
"When I first heard about Elvis, I couldn't understand why
American music
was so crazy. Compared to our Chinese music in the 1980s, Americans
such as
Mao Wang were considered crazy. But I don't think that any more. The
Chinese
people have become a lot more open."
The Elvis Story had its origins in the early 1990s as an idea by
Quebec
music impresario Guy Cloutier, who had attended dozens of Presley
concerts
in Las Vegas. He recruited the artistic director Mouffe -- famed
producer of
Quebec rock stars such as Roch Voisine and Robert Charlebois -- who
developed a two-hour review of 40 Elvis songs, linked by narrated
film
scenes on giant television screens that trace the Presley story from
birth
to death.
Fontaine, the leader of a Montreal rock band, won the audition for
the lead
role in 1994. In civilian clothes, with his spiky red hair and
boyish looks,
he sometimes jokes that he resembles Bart Simpson. But every night
he
transforms himself into Elvis with a two-hour makeup session and a
wig and
sideburns -- which he changes four times a night, along with 16
costume
changes.
Since 1995, the 39-year-old singer has performed as Elvis for an
average of
200 nights a year, accompanied by six musicians, four singers and an
elaborately evolving stage set. The Quebec show is the only
world-touring
review with the official blessing of the Presley estate, allowing it
to use
television and film footage of the singer.
Travelling to China, however, was a tough challenge. Language is one
problem: The narration has to be translated into Chinese in
scrolling text
on either side of the stage. A greater obstacle is the no-nonsense
attitude
of China's theatre owners, who imposed strict rules that required
him to
stay on stage and out of the audience. He opted to defy the rules,
despite
threats of police action. "Come on and arrest me," he
mused as he leaped
into the audience to shake hands and kiss the girls.
Chinese audiences are notoriously reserved and cautious, and
Fontaine has
had to work hard to overcome the emotional barriers. "It's a
little slower
here," he says. "It takes time to convince them. I talk to
them, I tease
them, I ask them to sing. I make them an accomplice. I give them
permission." While most of his audiences are unaware of his
Canadian
identity, Fontaine sees it as a natural advantage.
"Look at Cirque du Soleil -- they reinvented show
business," he notes. "We
can do so much with so little. We have a big imagination. We're not
too
tacky or too flashy like the Americans. We try to put more feeling
into it
-- because we don't have the money. We have nothing to lose."
Despite his financial success, Fontaine might not be touring as
Elvis much
longer. He is committed to another 46 shows in Paris next spring,
but by
next fall he is considering a completely new show that would
liberate him
from Elvis.
"I'm already working on it," he says. "I'm going to
explore my musical
influences, from blues to soul and R&B music."

Elvis - If Only We'd Known.

Here is the cover of the book "Elvis
- If Only We'd Known" by Sandra
Richardswhich is set for release September 2005.
From the publisher:
"In the spring of 1974, Elvis received some anonymous letters from
a young
woman. The letters contained Bible verses, encouragement, and casual
conversation.
As the letters continued to arrive, Elvis became piqued with their
author.
Elvis wanted to know who she was but she always signed her letters with
"Your friend, Sandie". Without a return address or last name
he had no way
of knowing how to contact her. After a couple of months, Elvis received
a
letter with Sandie's last name and address included on the envelope.
Immediately, Elvis decided to repay her for her letters of encouragement
and
made plans to travel to her home town and surprise her with a visit from
him.
Though Elvis traveled thousands of miles and planned and paid for a
Christian concert to cover his presence-circumstances prevented their
meeting. Three and a half years later, Elvis still had this young woman
in
his thoughts and wanted to reach her. At his last concert he sent out a
message that only she would understand--if she heard it. "

Debbie Wines of the Presley
Commission passes away.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - The Liaison
Office of the Presley Commission in the
United States has announced the sad passing of Debbie Wines. Debbie
served
as the Executive Investigative Coordinator during the commission's
tenure
from 1994 through 1997, and continued working on a consulting basis with
the
Liaison Office to complete a book project that will be released by early
2006. The book will outline and review matters pertinent to the years of
1970 through 1977 and later, as a discussion and explanation for what
happened to Elvis Presley during those times. Actual incidents will be
offered to explain the events of August, 1977 as well. This office, and
the
fans who knew her, join in our hope that Debbie's work over the years on
behalf of Elvis Presley will be revered as a compassionate and caring
testimonial, and will be respected the world over. Deb Wines will be

Presley promoters want help.
Paul and Joyce Fournier are huddled under
an umbrella within yards of the
shotgun shack where Gladys Presley gave birth to the King. Reading about
Elvis on a brick wall, they moved from one printed recollection to
another,
ignoring the rain and enjoying the lawn and flower gardens.
"We live in Michigan, but this is a part of my life and Paul's life,"
said
Joyce Fournier. "When I was in eighth and ninth grade, Elvis
blossomed even
in small towns of central Indiana. So, here we are." An estimated
75,000
visitors a year flock to the Elvis Presley birthplace. For the Elvis
Presley
Memorial Foundation, which oversees the site, the part-time upkeep by
the
city isn't enough. Members have proposed that the grounds have full-time
attention to complement the recent improvements.
Henry Dodge, the foundation chairman, recently pointed out those
improvements to the Tupelo City Council. Among them, the life-size
sculpture
by Michiel Van der Sommen of Elvis at 13, which stands on the grounds
adjacent to the house, and a $75,000 renovation of the house and
revamping
of the gift shop, funded by the Tupelo Convention and Visitors' Bureau,
fans, corporate entities and other sources.
Now, Dodge and the foundation want to turn the birthplace site into a
world-class attraction, and that means a full-time maintenance man. The
proposal to the city asks for a $10,000 supplement to maintain the
grounds,
but for the foundation to have its own maintenance employee. The city
will
consider the request in December.
The idea of a full-time person suits parks director Don Lewis just fine.
The
proposal will save the city $7,000 per year of the $17,000 it already
invests in the site, including the maintenance worker, who usually
spends
30-plus hours a week at the birthplace. Sometimes, having two masters
causes
confusion. For the foundation to take over maintenance, Lewis said,
"would
be kind of a win-win situation." Museum director Dick Guyton agrees.
The site requires a lot of grooming. It needs new plantings twice a year,
Guyton said, and it's mowed twice a week in the summer and once a week
in
the winter. The foundation doesn't want a full-time person to replace
its
current maintenance man, Guyton said. It just wants someone it doesn't
have
to share with the city. Send this link to a friend

Memphis Heritage Fund-Raising
Calendar.

Memphis Heritage is proud to announce
that this year's calendar is sponsored
in its entirety by Elvis Presley Enterprises. This unique 18-month
edition
will focus on vintage Don Newman photographs of Memphis as they relate
to
Elvis Presley and the Memphis he knew. The calendar offers a glimpse of
Elvis's Memphis, the footsteps of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, as so
eloquently photographed by Don Newman. The content is supplemented by
anecdotes and images of artifacts and documents from the Graceland
Archive.
Peter Guralnick, noted music historian and author of critically
acclaimed
Elvis Presley biographies including Last Train to Memphis, Careless Love
and
Elvis Day by Day wrote a special introduction to this year's calendar.
(Reprinted at the end of this article.)
All paid MHI members will receive one free calendar and can purchase ten
(10) or more at a discount. This 18-month calendar sells for $10.00
(slightly more on the web to cover handling and mailing charges.) The
calendars will be available for purchase through the Memphis Heritage
gift
shop at 509 S. Main or on line at www.memphisheritage.org.
These Memphis
retailers also will be selling the calendars: Davis Kidd Booksellers,
Otherlands and Burke's Bookstore. All profit from the sale of these
calendars goes to aid Memphis Heritage in their ongoing historic
preservation efforts.
Following this same theme, in March 2005 Graceland will unveil an
extraordinary yearlong exhibit using several mural-size Don Newman
photographs in conjunction with Elvis artifacts and archival materials
from
the vaults of their repository. This new exhibit in the Sincerely Elvis
Museum in Graceland Plaza will explore Elvis Presley's ties to the city
he
loved and called home. Further details will be posted here in News on
Elvis.com closer to the date of the installation of the new exhibit.
Peter Guralnick Text in the Calendar:
Elvis Presley loved Memphis. His music is informed with its attitudes
and
its rhythms. But, even more, it is infused with the sense of democratic
possibilities that Memphis nurtured in him. From slums to public housing
to
private ownership in a single generation was the motto of Lauderdale
Courts,
the Memphis public housing development in which he grew up -- and Elvis
clearly achieved that goal beyond even its most hopeful construction.
But he
achieved something much more. With his music he broke down barriers, he
refused to acknowledge categories -- social, racial, or musical -- he
consciously sought to bring together all the worlds that he had
experienced,
from Main Street to Beale Street, from Overton Park to East Trigg
Baptist
Church.
More than anything else, Elvis Presley celebrated freedom, individuality,
and the triumph of the human spirit. That was the heart of rock n roll
as he
defined it, an amalgamation of the rich musical traditions of ordinary
people, black and white, who lived side by side and imbued their music
with
their hopes, their dreams, their unarticulated ambitions.

What had he missed most about Memphis?
Elvis was asked after two years in
the army. "Everything, he said. I mean that -- everything."
His music sprang
from Memphis, and with that music he helped redefine the American
mainstream.

Elvis Lives on in Bonn.

Elvis fans can be a determined bunch, and
that's why much of the memorabilia
is behind glass.
Elvis is still a cultural icon - and he's back in the building
Forget Memphis, Las Vegas and Graceland -- Germany has always had a
special
place in its heart for Elvis, and now, anyone wanting a personal glimpse
of
the man behind the myth need go no further than Bonn.
Boasting exhibits ranging from glitzy catsuits and strands of hair to
first-edition records, the show that opened in Bonn Monday marks what
would
have been Elvis' 70th birthday.
Taking a fond look at the two years that Presley spent in Germany as the
most famous GI in history, it pays tribute to one of the 20th century's
brightest stars and explores the reverberations of rock & roll in
post-war
Germany.
The curators aren't taking any chances. Elvis fans can be a determined
bunch, and that's why much of the memorabilia is behind glass. "We
don't
want anything ending up on Ebay," explained Jürgen Reiche, the
director of
the House of History in Bonn.
The King was welcomed by crowds of screaming fans when he arrived in the
northern port of Bremerhaven to begin military service in October 1958.
How pop culture changed Germany

Photo:The King was welcomed by crowds of
screaming fans when he arrived in
the northern port of Bremerhaven to begin military service in October
1958.
When Elvis Aaron Presley was drafted into the United States Army, he
might
have left his fans back home so lonesome they could cry -- but Germany
couldn't wait to meet him.
"For many, Elvis opened a window on to the world," explained
Reiche. "His
music and way of being gave them a touchstone -- after all, many young
Germans had grown up without fathers."
The King was welcomed by crowds of screaming fans when he arrived in the
northern port of Bremerhaven to begin military service in October 1958.
The fresh-faced 23-year-old private assigned to the US Third Armored
Division was to spend the next 18 months at Ray Barracks in the sleepy
town
of Friedberg.
A corrupting influence
Under Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, 1950s Germany was a staid and
conservative
place. Not everybody was thrilled to be playing host to Elvis the
Pelvis.
Local politicians alleged he was corrupting young people, while East
Germany
dismissed his music and raunchy performances as anti-communist
propaganda.
In March 1960, Germany bid "Auf Wiedersehen" to the King of
Rock and Roll,
but not before he'd ensured himself a permanent place in Germany's
affections by recording a version of the famous folksong "Muß i
denn zum
Städtele hinaus." It may have been incomprehensible to his US
fans, but his
winsome rendition featured in the 1959 movie "GI Blues" meant
he was claimed
as an honorary German.
From pink Cadillacs to
Priscilla

As well as featuring clips from movies
like "GI Blues" and "Jailhouse Rock",
the House of History show includes 300 items from Presley's stay in
Friedberg, including the military-issue bag he was carrying when he
arrived,
the pink Cadillac he drove on days off and even the partially
reconstructed
barracks hut where barbers gave him his regulation army haircut.
While Presley clearly had an electrifying effect on post-war Germany,
ushering in the country's lasting love-affair with American pop culture,
the
exhibition also explores the role Germany played in Presley's life.
After all, it was here at that he met 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu,
his
future wife and mother of his only child, Lisa Marie. At one point
during
his stay, he even moved his father Vernon and his grandmother Minnie Mae
into a house in Bad Nauheim, a small town near to the military camp
where he
was stationed.
"It was rock 'n' roll and the PX shops with American products and a
whole
new image for Friedberg -- very exciting," said deputy mayor of
Friedberg,
Michael Keller.
The extent to which Elvis shook up mainstream culture cannot be
over-estimated, say the organizers. "He still preoccupies us, he's
well-known across the generations, and he brought about a sexual,
musical
and social revolution," pointed out Jürgen Reiche.
In his opinion, post-Elvis Germany was never the same again. "He
inspired
and motivated society," he explained. "He was an ambassador of
a movement
that spoke to people who wanted change."

the typical 2 lp sets from that period.

It will include a 40 page full color booklet, all about Elvis in 1972

reproduction of the
original rare 1972 MGM-pressbook (12 pages) for "Elvis On

Rare Elvis Recordings Fail To Sell.

A batch of Elvis Presley's earliest RCA
recordings from nearly 50 years ago
failed to meet the minimum asking price at auction on Monday, but lesser
keepsakes from the King of Rock 'n' Roll fetched more than $6,000.
The highlight of the two-day sale of show business memorabilia by
international auction house Bonhams and Butterfields was a private
collection of six reel-to-reel tape recordings of Presley valued at
between
$30,000 and $50,000. The "pre-master" recordings of some of
Presley's first
sessions at RCA included never-before-heard versions of such hits as
"All
Shook Up" and "Jailhouse Rock" as well as studio banter
among the singer,
members of his band and the engineer who recorded them, Thorne Nogar. It
was
Nogar, working under contract for RCA, who ended up in possession of the
reels and whose family put them up for bid through Bonhams &
Butterfields.
Nogar died in 1994. The tapes ended up being withdrawn from auction
because
"they did not meet minimum price set by the owners," auction
spokesman Erik
Simon told Reuters. He said the family did not want to divulge the
reserve
price set for the collection or the range of bids received. Several
other
pieces of Presley memorabilia did sell, including a signed photograph of
the
singer ($2,115), an autographed movie banner from his 1968 film "Stay
Away
Joe" ($3,525) and an autographed record sleeve ($470).
BMG already has everything which is featured on these tapes.

Elvis sightings abound at open
casting call CBS
Elvis sightings abound at open casting
call CBS miniseries will focus on
singer's early career.
It was the ultimate Elvis sighting.
Some 200 sneering, hip-swiveling Elvis Presley look-alikes in pompadours,
leather jackets, jumpsuits and blue suede shoes lined up for an open
casting
call Wednesday outside CBS studios, hoping to play the king of rock 'n'
roll
on TV.
Elvis impersonators from as far away as Buffalo, N.Y., Boise, Idaho,
Toronto
and even Scotland turned Sound Stage 46 into a virtual international
house
of Presley as they filed one by one before casting directors and
producers
to perform a few bars of "Don't Be Cruel," "Jailhouse
Rock" or "Hound Dog."
Most, including beefy, middle-aged candidates dressed as the Las
Vegas-era
Elvis, were politely thanked for their efforts and sent on their way. A
lucky few -- all of them practitioners of the younger, thinner
Presley look
-- were asked to stick around to read a few lines from a script.
One of them was Gino Monopoli, 29, a soft-spoken professional Elvis
"tribute
artist" from Toronto, who like most of the contenders, spoke of
Presley in
unbridled superlatives.
"Elvis was the epitome of cool. You could bring him out today, in
2004, and
he'd still rock," Monopoli said.
Monopoli acknowledged being caught a bit off-guard when he got a chance
to
read for the part. "The southern accent was a little tough. I had
about 10
minutes to get it down."
'Essence of Elvis'
Organizers said they were looking for someone who captures the
"essence of
Elvis" and bears a close resemblance for an upcoming CBS miniseries
about
his early career.
Director Jim Sadwith said he hoped to find a newcomer who possessed
"the
sexuality, the vulnerability and the danger of Elvis .... We're not
looking
for just an impersonator."
The program will trace Presley's rise to fame from age 18 to his
triumphant
1968 comeback at age 33. No air date has been set. Presley died in 1977
at
age 42.
While all the candidates had to perform a Presley number for the tryout,
the
winner won't actually sing in the miniseries. He'll lip-sync to Presley
recordings licensed especially for the program.
Lined up outside the studio was a colorful collection of Presley
hopefuls
who came in all shapes and sizes. Tall, lanky Steve Gagnon, 44, a real
estate agent and Elvis moonlighter from Battle Creek, Michigan, said he
got
his start performing as Presley for a charity and made it a part-time
career.
Dressed in black leather jacket and pants, he now tours with an
entourage of
24 people, including band, backup singers and bodyguards. He left them
all
back in Michigan. "It's going to be a little rough to pass for
Elvis at 18,"
he said.
Chris Monte, 28, of Bryson City, North Carolina, stood out in a white
jump
suite studded with sequins and the likeness of a peacock embroidered in
blue
and turquoise. Part owner of a family lumber company, he brought along a
personal publicist.
Francesco Caputo, 44, from Long Island, was the very first in line at
1:30
a.m., more than eight hours before auditions began. But he made it clear
he
had other interests besides TV.
"This Elvis is available to hot chicks," he joked.

Now there was a song: Hit song was
gift to a new bride.

Many hit songs were written under unusual
circumstances, but Billy Swan's
1974 hit, "I Can Help," was written because of a wedding gift!
Swan was born in Cape Giradeau, Missouri in 1943 and grew up listening
to
Hank Williams, Webb Pierce, and Lefty Frizzell-but his musical interests
later shifted to rock and roll.
He wrote his first song at age 16.
Swan commented, "I wrote a poem during English class one day. A
couple of
years later, Bill Black showed it to Clyde McPhatter, who wasn't that
impressed with it, but agreed to record it anyway. The result was his
"Lover
Please" record. I guess that record spoiled me. All of a sudden I
figured
that show business was the easiest thing in the world." He then
moved to
Memphis, Tennessee, to work as a songwriter.
According to Swan, "The first thing I did when I got to Memphis was
to drive
by Elvis Presley's house. I had been there before and I had sneaked into
his
yard and stole a towel I found as a souvenir. I had hoped it would have
his
name on it but it didn't. Instead, the towel has "Roosevelt
Hotel" on it.
But when I moved to Memphis, I went by his house again and talked to
Travis
Smith, who was working the gate at Graceland. I told him I was writing
songs
for Bill Black and that I was looking for a place to stay. He told me
that
he had some room and that I could stay with him. So I did and I worked
the
gate sometimes when he needed some time off."
Swan later moved to Nashville, Tenn., and worked as a janitor at
Columbia
Studios. When he gave up that job, they gave it to another aspiring
songwriter named Kris Kristofferson.
When Kristofferson organized a band, he invited Swan to join. The band
toured the world with Kristofferson and when the group finally made it
back
to Nashville, Billy joined Kinky Friedman and The Texas Jew Boys,
playing
rhythm guitar and singing harmony.
It was about that time that he met a young lady named Marlu and they
were
married shortly thereafter.
Billy commented, "Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge gave me a
little RMI
organ for a wedding gift. My wife had one of those electric drum
machines. I
was sitting in the living room playing around with my new organ and that
drum machine. I started playing some chords and the lyrics to "I
Can Help"
just came pouring out. I did it in two takes. I didn't even overdub the
vocals. I just stood up-played my new organ and sang."
"I Can Help" entered the country music charts October 12th,
1974 and made if
to the top slot, where it stayed for two weeks. It was on the country
charts
for 14 weeks and was the first of 16 songs that he placed on the country
lists between 1974 and 1987. "I Can Help" was also pop music's
number one
song the week of November 23rd, 1974.

Rare Elvis Presley Recordings Go Up
for Auction.

Some of Elvis Presley's first RCA
recordings from nearly 50 years ago,
including never-before-heard takes of "All Shook Up" and
"Jailhouse Rock,"
will be put up for bid on Sunday at an auction of show business
memorabilia.
The six unedited reel-to-reel tapes -- "pre-master" originals
from the
private collection of the studio engineer who recorded them, are valued
at
between $30,000 and $50,000, according to international auction house
Bonhams & Butterfields.
Highlights will be played on Saturday for potential bidders at the
Bonhams
gallery in Los Angeles, marking their first public exhibition, auction
spokesman Erik Simon told Reuters.
The more than two hours of audio consist of 57 musical tracks, including
multiple takes of songs Presley performed in the studio, as well as
casual
banter between Presley, members of his band and the engineer, Thorne
Nogar.
It was Nogar, working under contract for RCA at Radio Recorders studios
in
Los Angeles, who ended up in possession of the reels and whose family
has
put them up for bid through Bonhams & Butterfields.
"We've had them for a lot of years, and I think the people should
enjoy
them," said Nogar's son, Stephen, 57, a retired trucker who now
resides in
Kentucky. "And frankly, we could use the money."
Because they do not hold the underlying copyright to Presley's music,
Nogar
said his family may sell the physical recordings to another party for
"personal enjoyment" only. The tapes cannot be copied for
commercial gain,
he said.
The tapes were made from September 1956 through September 1957 during
the
singer's initial sessions at RCA, which had bought out Presley's
contract
from Sun Records for $35,000.
Nogar, who died in 1994 at age 72, made a habit of rolling two tapes
simultaneously as he recorded Presley so he would have a backup of the
sessions in case RCA producers changed their minds about which version
of a
song they preferred after the master was cut. It was the backup that
Nogar
kept.
"He called them his ass-saver tapes," his son said, adding
that the quality
is noticeably crisper than even a new vinyl record, which is four
"generations" removed from sound made in the studio.
"You ought to hear a first-generation tape. It's so much fresher,"
Nogar
said. When bidders here the playback on Saturday, he said, "They're
going to
find out what a 22-year-old Elvis sounds like."
The recordings include such early Presley hits as "Jailhouse
Rock" and "All
Shook Up," all the material he recorded for his original Christmas
album and
a batch of religious tunes. Stephen Nogar said his personal favorite is
a
ballad titled "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You."
The Presley tapes are part of a larger auction being held by Bonhams,
which
also will include the original suits worn by the Beatles on their first
album cover, a guitar owned by rock legend Jimi Hendrix, rare Disney
animation celluloids and a collection of more than 300 vintage movie
posters.
Note :
Andylon Lensen talked to Stephen Nogar a couple times a few months ago
to
negoniate and
discussed this matter with Ernst Jorgensen who met Stephan Nogar and his
sister many years ago about this issue in person.
Enst claimed to Andylon he checked all the tapes and 1st of all they
were
ALL saved - Mono copies and 2nd of all, the recordings Stephan
Nogar has in
his possesion are also original in the vaullts of RCA.

Exhibition Traces The Elvis Years
As A GI In Germany.

The two years that Elvis Presley spent in
Germany as the most famous GI in
history are the subject of a new exhibition opening in Germany on Sunday.
The organisers are putting on show 300 items from Presley's stay in
Friedberg, which left the sleepy town "All Shook Up", to quote
one of the
King's best-known songs.
Fans can see the military-issue bag Elvis was carrying when he arrived
in
the northern port of Bremerhaven in 1958 to begin his military service,
the
partially reconstructed barracks hut where he had his regulation army
haircut, or the pink Cadillac he drove on days off.
The exhibition also highlights that Germany played an important role in
Presley's life -- it was there that he met Priscilla, his future wife
and
the mother of his only child, Lisa Marie.
Presley even moved his father and his grandmother into a house in Bad
Neuheim, a small town near to the military camp where he was stationed.
The deputy mayor of Friedberg, Michael Keller, recalled earlier this
year
how Presley's arrival electrified the locals.
"It was rock 'n' roll and the PX shops with American products and a
whole
new image for Friedberg -- very exciting," he said.

James Burton In Sweden.

James Burton did a flashvisit to Sweden

Ricky Nelson tribute show joined Carina for some promotion work.
Among the songs they performed was the for Elvis fans famous "Hurt"

the
Swedish newspaper Expressen where he said that he had no intention to
retire
and said that he hoped to bring a Gram Parsons tribute show to Europe,
he
concluded by saying - I will be back!.
The picture shows the interview, and a picture of James and Carina.

Brando's son weds Elvis' "daughter"
.
Marlon Brando's son Christian has married
a woman who claims to be Elvis
Presley's daughter. Christian, 46, exchanged nuptials with 48-year-old
artist Deborah Presley on 16 October 2004 at Las Vegas' Little White
Chapel.
Deborah claims she is an illegitimate daughter of the late rocker, but
in
1988 a judge ruled that her claims have no legal merit. Christian was
released from jail in 1996, after serving nearly half of a 10 year
sentence
for the fatal shooting of his half sister's lover in 1990.
Deborah tells PEOPLE magazine that she saw a picture of Christian in
1987
and "loved him from that moment".

The objective of the project is to
produce a full-size, bipedal humanoid
robot. The humanoid will have human dimensions and weight. At present
the
plan is to build the robot around a plastic human skeleton. The robot
will
be controlled by a hierarchy of evolutionary systems. A 60 cm tall
prototype
named ELVIS has been built. The objective of ELVIS is to try various
hypotheses regarding hardware and control software. We are motivated by
a
strong belief in the future importance of humanoid robotics for industry,
research and society in general.
Project goals:
To create a mechanical humanoid that:
is autonomous
can walk
has vision assisted orientation
can communicate verbally
shows more advanced behaviours, such as walking to an electric outlet to
recharge its batteries
We strive towards creating an individual who is able to adapt to and
take
advantage of its environment to reach its own purposes.
Our short term goal is to get the robot to balance on two legs, and then
make it walk.
Purpose:
To see what is possible to do today
Research areas:
AI
Robotics
Computer vision
Audio computer communication
Human interfaces for robots
