DVD ELVIS ADRENALINE.
A Review By Andylon Lensen.

Trailer
Praytome Publishing released a new
interesting product.
After the release of two volumes of the successful DVD series
"Elvis
BehindThe Image" (in association with Bud Glass Productions)
they have
developed a new format :
ELVIS ADRENALINE.

The new documentary supplement a premium DVDs of Elvis Presley.
It does not replace the documentary series "Elvis Behind The
Image".
This DVD contains a documentary about Elvis Presley and the basic
changes in
his life and career in 1968, 1969 and 1970.
They have found (again) the original source of incredible Super-8
footage
and is transferred for the first time in highly professional quality
from
the original Super-8 reel.
Now, these are the facts, and I have no intention to write that
after
seeing this DVD "My pants are falling off" or "the heaven opened itself
and I saw the light" .
I rather stick to the details and facts and use some questions from
other
Elvis Fans who have seen and purchased this DVD.
I have gathered here some questions and remarks :

The footage is 40 minutes, is it from one concert?
Yes, it is almost a complete concert, which is very rare on the
Super-8 format!
The material on this DVD, can you also see this on the TTWII
DVD?
No, this is completely different material.
First of all according to the French mega-collector
Jean-Marc Garguilo who
filmed this on Super-8 the MGM Crew already left with their material.
This is clearly mentioned on the DVD.
Do we know this 40 minutes almost complete concert?
Yes, there are analog Video tapes circulating for many years before.
But this footage on VHS cassettes is extremely bad on quality
compared with
the DVD Adrenaline.
The Material was never offcially released on DVD or on the video format.
The material was circulating only on a trade basis in very bad quality.
Howcome there is so much difference on Quality?

This time the original reel was digitally remastered and done at the
famous
German Bavaria studios.
This might ring a bell for European ElvisFans who all know the Series "Derrick" .
This is one of the biggest movie studios in Europe which where in charge
of
many international productions like "The Boot" or "The
nerverending Story".
So, I do not talk about a normal standard transfer which you can
get everywhere.

There is sound on this footage?
The 40 minutes I'd seen on the VHS analog copy, this footage had
sound.
Yes correct, Jean-Marc Garguilo added Elvis "Live
Music" to his silent 8-mm
reels from different soundboards because he didn't only want to
let the
ElvisFans see his silent footage.
It's not the actual concert that was put under the footage.
No, The footage is silent, this footage was filmed in 1970 and the first
Super-8 mm film WITH sound was introduced in late 1974...early 1975.
Is it not possible to add sound to this footage?
No, This is not allowed for legal copyright reasons and we
probably never
will get an official release with sound.
Praytome Publishing at least did not use the ringingtone mp3's for
the
footage and made for this footage proffesional high quality
instrumental songs.
Is 30 minutes long, narrated documentary Elvis '70 - "The historic
context", Interesting?
What makes this documentary as a production so special, when you hear
"ELVIS
HIMSELF" do a part of the narration and talks about his life
from the day
he was borned, till the day he was performing On stage at the
Elvis
International.
Wich means it's not only a narrated documentary, the soundtrack makes it
also special on the background "while Elvis is talking" ....
it really
gives you the atmosphere you are directly into the specific room with
Elvis.
This is never done before!!!.
It shows how much the producers took love, care, knowledge and technical
wise make this DVD entertaining and interesting as it could be.
Yes, the documentary brings you to Elvis's career " right on
TOP" where the
concert footage was filmed, August 1970 , after the filming of
"That's The
Way It Is" from MGM.

View Elvis as an actor in the 60s, the '68 Comeback show, see and hear
Elvis
during the recording sessions in the American Sound Studios, Elvis'
return
to live performances in Las Vegas, how the International Hotel was
build,
Elvis signing his contract and how Las Vegas looked like in those days.
Sensational 30 seconds stunning footage of Elvis's comeback engagement
in
1969, unseen in this high quality.

Why Barabara Streisand was the first person to premiere at the
International and not Elvis?
Including a footage of Barbara Streisand performing at the Las Vegas International.
The documentary is filled with rare and never before seen pics and
footage
from Elvis at the Las Vegas engagement ' 69.
The "making of" documentary Creation of Dreams.

The almost 6 minutes "Making Of documentary" is for the
viewers also quite interesting!!!
See how super8 reels are digitally transferred, enchanged and remastered
at
the famous German Bavaria studios.
The Menu.

This DVD contains an inter-active menu;
Documentary (Elvis-70- The Historic
Context)...
Pure Adrenaline (Elvis On Stage
1970)..Super 8 mm..Credits
Conclusion :
The way this DVD is presented, it resemblance the exact specific
styling as
"That's The Way It Is" release.
It starts with the cover, the colors and the credits.... it all
breaths that same atmopshere.
To my acknowledge this is the 1st time ever that there is a documentary
made
on DVD about Elvis's engagement of Las Vegas 1970, filled with
new interesting information and details, unknown and rare pictures &
footage.
If anyone would like to have my opinion and/or advise on this DVD
"Elvis Adrenaline" :
For the overall Fans this is an extraordanary entertaining DVD.
The ElvisFans who are interersted in the '69 - '70's this is a
comprehensive
and interesting DVD to add to your private collection.
As for me being an ElvisFan for 43 years and collecting Elvis Super-8
material for many years
"I was davistated and shocked " to view this footage
from '69 and ' 70's
in the best quality I have never seen before in my life.... and this is
a fact!!!!
This is a MUST for all die hard ElvisFans who are into collectting Super-8
footage.
It certainly gave me an Elvis Adrenaline......

Justin Timberlake to play Elvis?:
Pop prince JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE is reportedly being lined up to play ELVIS
PRESLEY in a new musical about the King of Rock. Movie giants MIRAMAX
want
the hunky singer - who has confessed to being a fan of Presley - to star
in
the Broadway, New York production to be titled ALL SHOOK UP. But
representatives for Timberlake, who will make his movie debut playing a
reporter in upcoming film EDISON, are remaining coy. When quizzed on the
venture, a spokesperson told American news site PAGESIX.COM,
"Absolutely no
way." .

Bestselling Elvis DVDs and books.
The "online" best selling Elvis
DVDs in England last week were (in
descending order): Aloha From Hawaii; The '68 Comeback Special; Elvis
The
Last 24 Hours; Loving You and Elvis Presley True Stories (The Elvis
Presley
Anthology). Meanwhile in the US there is a new best selling Elvis book.
The recently published Elvis Presley The Man The Life The Legend by
Pamela
Clarke Keogh has replaced Elvis Fashion by Julie Mundy as the #1 selling
Elvis book.
Peter Guralnick's two volume Elvis bio, Last Train to Memphis and
Careless
Love occupy the #2 and #3 spots respectively, with Elvis and Me by
Priscilla
Presley is at #4 and Elvis Presley Unseen Archives (Marie Clayton) at
#5.
ElvisBookResearch commented that the golden age of high sales for Elvis
books has passed. Most new Elvis books in the US are not selling in
large
numbers, partly due to the effect of so many competing Elvis titles and
decreasing interest in new titles.

Preview Elvis And Celebrities Book.

Elvis is said to be the most photographed
man in history. If not the most
photographed, he is certainly one of the most photographed anyway.
From every angle and corner, Elvis has been exposed,
"recycled" and
captured, almost from the day he first stepped in at Sun in Memphis, to
record that little single for his beloved mother - or from the day he
redefined popular music. Since then, every moment and movement of his
life
and career has almost been captured on film. The result: An enormous
collection of Elvis photos spread around the World. But what was missing
in
that huge collection - for a big deal - was some crucial information of
what, whom and who was seen on the pictures.
"Who is Elvis standing with on that pictures?," you have
probably asked
yourself a hundred times. That problem has now been solved, thanks to a
new
book coming from Elvis Unlimited.
Elvis' magnetism
For the many fans who actually met Elvis personally or saw him at
concerts,
it was a revelation seeing Elvis' powerful and prolific character. For
the
many Elvis fans who didn't caught a glimpse of the King - likely the
biggest
part - it is still a revelation seeing him on pictures and feeling the
fascinating magnetism and mysterious charisma of Elvis.
Some of those many thousands of photos spread around the World is
well-known
to many Elvis' fans, thanks to the thousands of books written about the
man.
Some of the most famous - and perhaps most bizarre and controversial of
the
history of popular music - being the ones taken in the Oval office at
the
White House in December 1970. It's off course Elvis' meeting with former
President Richard M. Nixon.
At the time being, it was a meeting of probably the country's (and the
World's) two most prominent household-names for every American citizen.
To
this day the pictures that captured the event, is still as fascinating,
as
they were back then. They're simply become household-pictures for every
Elvis fan around.
Not alone
But they're not alone. Elvis was also captured with other personalities
like
Nixon. He was photographed together with Frank Sinatra, Muhammed Ali,
Glen
Campbell, Bill Haley, Dean Martin and Sophia Loren among many, many
others.
All of which today is considered to be household pictures as well, in
the
enormous collection of Elvis snapshots taken during his life.
But sometimes you've probably caught a glimpse of Elvis with someone
else on
a picture, you never knew who were? If so, you have the chance to learn
a
lot more about these other - not to famous - personalities. Names like
Tempest Storm, Imogene Coco, Dorothy Harmony, Gary Merrill and Hedda
Hopper.
You can read a lot more about them and many others, their meeting and
connection to Elvis, in the detailed new book entitled "Elvis and
Other
Celebrities - Candid Favourite Shots", released through Elvis
Unlimited in a
few months time.
First A-Z book
The new book is not supposed to be a new photo book, with many rare and
unpublished photos, even though some are really rare. Instead it's the
first
ever A-Z book, to sum up all the details of every personality Elvis met
in
his life, in a compact form with a picture of Elvis and the person
written
about.
A book terribly missed for every Elvis fan around the world!
The book will be full color on 80 pages. Release date August 10, 2004.

The new CD is entitled "In The Right Place", a

and mixed for the Sweets. Elvis Unlimited also release a single of the
2004

Estelle Brown, Myrna Smith, Sylvia Shemwell and Portia Griffin
As most Elvis fans know, original member Sylvia Shemwell suffered a
stroke
several years ago and her recovery has been slow, with her ability to
speak
and sing greatly compromised. As the ladies neared completion of the new
CD,
they were able to coax Sylvia into the studio to participate on a track
and
her voice prevailed. Sylvia also recorded for the CD a special message
to
the Elvis fans, so many of whom have sent her some very meaningful
encouragement over the last few years. And she got glammed up for a new
publicity shot. As you can see, like all our ladies, she's looking
beautiful.
We all look forward to the day that Sylvia can hit the studio and stage
again full force. If you would like to send her a note of encouragement,
here's the address:

Shreveport Group Commits $40,000 To
Elvis Statue.
Opting for a little less talk and a lot
more action, Shreveport's Downtown
Development Authority has voted to invest 40-thousand dollars toward a
statue of Elvis Presley that one day will grace the front of Municipal
Auditorium. Hopes are to have the statue in place in time for the
October
16th celebration of the 50th anniversary of the king of rock 'n' roll's
first performance on the Louisiana Hayride.
The statue, which will become one of only a handful of
Graceland-sanctioned
Elvis statues worldwide, will cost 60-thousand dollars.
The remaining funds will be collected through donations, an initiative
being
led by the local Elvis' Angels Fan Club. So far, the group has raised a
little more than 200 dollars. However, club president Dianne Patrick of
Mooringsport says letters of support have been received from as far away
as
London, Ireland and Belgium.

Uptown Memphis Announces Opening Date
for Former Elvis Presley Home.

The Uptown Partnership and the City of
Memphis announced today that the
renovation of young Elvis Presley's teenage home will be completed this
summer with a grand opening slated for 10:00 am, August 9, 2004. In a
partnership with Elvis Presley Enterprises, the Elvis Suite has been
designed to accommodate tours for fans and the public during Elvis
Birthday
celebrations each January and Elvis Week every August.
The Presley residence is now part of the new Uptown Square community in
the
innovative Uptown Memphis development. The apartment was originally part
of
Lauderdale Courts, a Roosevelt-era WPA housing development. The Presley
family lived in this close-knit neighborhood from 1949 to 1953. Here
Elvis
met other Memphis musicians, practiced in the basement laundry room and
gained confidence by performing for family and friends in the community
courtyards. He walked to nearby Beale Street, where he listened to the
blues
artists of the day. He had easy access to Sun Studio and Pop Tunes
record
store around the corner.
Originally slated for demolition, Lauderdale Courts was saved by the
appeals
of Elvis fans and the Memphis Heritage preservation organization. The
colonial revival 347-unit apartment community is now on the National
Register of Historic Places. Renovated and renamed Uptown Square, the
model
mixed-income property is Memphis' first wireless apartment complex
complete
with business center, pool, fitness center, media and coffee rooms.
"We asked fans and the public for their opinions on what we should
do with
this important American treasure," stated Henry Turley, managing
partner of
The Uptown Partnership, a Belz-Turley Community Development Company.
"Considering our residents, the best solution was to open the
apartment for
public tours on the two weeks that mean so much to loyal Elvis
fans."
Public tours will take place from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, August 10 - 15,
2004.
Timed-tour tickets will be on sale August 9, 2004 at the corner of N.
Lauderdale and Alabama streets, near Uptown Square's leasing and
community
center at 252 N. Lauderdale.
"Living at Lauderdale Courts, Elvis had access to a myriad of
musical
experiences," explained Jack Soden, president and CEO of Elvis
Presley
Enterprises. "The proximity to Beale Street, Sun Studio and Pop
Tunes made
this community the perfect environment for his incredible talent to grow
and
flourish."
"Uptown Square was a national treasure worth saving," said
Memphis Mayor,
Willie W. Herenton. "Early leasing indicates that it is a great
mixed-income
community. From doctors and lawyers to working and public-assisted
families,
it is what innovative housing is all about."
Uptown Memphis is the newest development of the Downtown Memphis
renaissance. The resurgent 100-block Downtown neighborhood, east of
Harbor
Town, will soon feature 1,000 new homes and apartments, along with
public
improvements such as new parks and streetscapes. Uptown Memphis is the
concerted public-private revitalization by downtown Memphis developers
Jack
Belz, CEO of Belz Enterprises and Henry Turley, CEO of Henry Turley
Company
and the City of Memphis.

Uptown Memphis Thanks Elvis Fans.
Dear Fans:
Thank you for submitting your ideas on how to use the apartment where
Elvis
Presley and his family once lived. We received literally hundreds of
exciting, creative and thoughtful submissions from Elvis fans all over
the
world.
As you know the former Lauderdale Courts is undergoing a $36 million
historic renovation and is now named Uptown Square Apartments. Phases I
and
II of Uptown Square are now complete and are leasing. The Presley
apartment
is part of Phase III, currently scheduled for completion this summer.
The
apartment's location within an occupied residential community presents
us
with the challenge of preserving Elvis's legacy while not causing too
much
interruption or disturbance to the daily lives of the community's
residents.
After reviewing all the emails and letters we received regarding the
apartment, it became apparent that these wonderful suggestions and
opinions
were working beautifully with our own development and renovation plans.
As a
result, the apartment is being furnished in a style that mirrors the
time
when the Presleys lived there, complete with period appliances and
fixtures.
The week of Elvis' birthday in January and Elvis Week in August will be
open
for tours for Elvis fans and the public to see the apartment and get a
feeling of what it was like to live in Lauderdale Courts in the late
1940s
and early 1950s.
For Elvis Week 2004 the apartment will be open to fans and the public
for
tours from Tuesday, August 10th through Sunday, August 15th. For more
details on tickets and times for tours, please check our website at
www.uptownmemphis.org.
Thanks again for all your input and don't forget to check back here for
more
details on plans for the apartment and the tours coming soon!

Trust me, this will be the MONSTER of all Elvis promotional CD's. By the
way, comparing the times on the promo to the regular AT SUN CD, it
appears
that THAT'S ALL RIGHT and BLUE MOON on the promo are longer; BLUE MOON
OF KY
is shorter; and the other three are about the same. I don't have the CD
yet
so I can't be certain if there's anything different about the versions.

The Tupelo-Memphis Murders.

The Elvis International Network site
mentions a new book titled "The
Tupelo-Memphis Murders" which is scheduled for publication in
September-October as a limited edition print available only through
online
auction houses and fan clubs. Here is the text from the E.I.N. site:
'The Tupelo-Memphis Murders: A Psychological Study of Self-Destruction
and
Murder!' was the subject of considerable discussion and debate on
underground message boards last year and its release is being eagerly
awaited by many fans.
Anonymously written as a novel, the plot is cleverly composed with none
of
its characters named, yet because of the events described and their
locale,
you know exactly who they are. In addition, the story can be read (or
interpreted) on two levels: as a straightforward tale or as a resonant,
reflective narrative embedded with higher level symbolic
representations.
Unlike 'Fairytale', another anonymously written book from the Elvis
Underground, 'The Tupelo-Memphis Murders' is well written and stylish.
It
also has much more substance within its pages than the 700 page
'Fairytale'.
Apart from its titular themes, 'The Tupelo-Memphis Murders: A
Psychological
Study of Self-Destruction and Murder!' contains: quite graphic
descriptions
of incest, the impact of drug cocktails, an assassination attempt in
Memphis, the Mob & FBI stings, sinister "Men In Black",
and details of a
raft of the colourful conspiracy theories that dominate the Elvis
underground.
While many of the themes are familiar to Elvis fans, others are not and
will
surprise many. Inclusions like a passage from 'Alice Through the Looking
Glass' test the reader's ability to think laterally and view the story
on a
symbolic level. While the book is at times unsettling and not for the
squeamish, its dark, menacing themes and highly symbolic prose make it a
most unusual and testing entry in the world of Elvis literature.

Elvis Fans Trying For Statue To
Commemorate Anniversary.
Fans of Elvis Presley are trying to raise
$80,000 to have a statue of the
rock 'n roll icon created in time for the 50th anniversary of the
Presley's
first appearance on the Louisiana Hayride.
Friends of the Municipal Auditorium and a fan club known as Elvis Angels
plan to ask the Downtown Development Authority next week for money, said
Johnny Wessler, past president of the auditorium group.
Artist Eric Kaposta of Houston, who formerly lived in Shreveport, said
he
can have the statue ready in time for the Oct. 16 anniversary if backers
can
come up with $20,000, Wessler said. He said Kaposta has already created
a
bust of Presley. The bust bore such an accurate resemblance to the
singer
that Elvis Presley Enterprises, which handles Presley's image, agreed to
sanction the project for Friends of the Municipal, Wessler said.
"The statue will be on a tremendously large granite base that will
tell a
story and include lyrics from his songs," Wessler said.
Presley was among a cadre of stars - including Hank Williams, Johnny
Cash
and George Jones - who appeared early in the careers on the Hayride, a
stage
show broadcast weekly from the Municipal Auditorium from 1948 until
1960.

Raised On Elvis Book Released.

Raised On Elvis - (A Look Back At The
Good Times With Sandi Pichon)
The much anticipated new book, "Raised On Elvis" - (A Look
Back At The Good
Times With Sandi Pichon) has been released.
Like millions of first-generation Rock & Roll teens, Sandi Haynes
Pichon,
Author, Columnist & President of TCB ELVIS STYLE Fan Club in
Louisiana, was
Raised on ELVIS! ELVIS! ELVIS! In between the time she sat with him on
his
motorcycle at his Audubon Drive home until the day she stood weeping by
his
coffin inside Graceland, Sandi was front row and center for ELVIS
concerts
all over the country. As a pre-teen in Memphis, she was there to witness
a
regional attraction which become a national obsession; she devoted years
of
her adult life to being part of his global audience, and has since
dedicated
herself to charities that pay homage to his iconic memory.
Through several chance meetings with ELVIS himself and friendships with
his
inner circle Sandi was close enough to feel for the wonderful man that
was
living in the shadow of his awesome reputation. They exchanged gifts and
kisses across the footlights and she was invited to the parties after
the
shows and even to Graceland Mansion. "I was so fortunate to have
been able
to have such meaningful contact with the most beloved entertainer
ever,"
Sandi relates. "I always knew that I was there for the millions who
wished
they were, so this story belongs to all the fans, who have loved him,
turned
their rooms into shrines to him, and stood by him for all these
years." So
now enjoy this pictorial novella of a time and place where a man changed
the
world one heart at a time.
Release date June 2004 - 300 pages.
Reviews - High Praise For Raised On Elvis
..... Fortunately Pichon and Peters have found the winning formula in
the
pictorial novella "RAISED ON ELVIS! ELVIS! ELVIS!" by
balancing the pictures
with a tremendous storyline that is historic and insightful. The
pictures
are used to put you in the middle of the scene, so that they're relevant
to
the story and therefore interesting; when the ladies take a wild ride to
the
concert right behind Elvis in the motorcade the snapshots taken on the
fly
allows you to join the moment and share the good time that they were
having.
Gypsy Irwin, Hollywood Night Move Magazine
This is not simply another pictorial of gilded Elvis photos, but a look
inside the life and heart of the man from the greatest perspective of
all;
an Elvis fan who was there from the beginning - from a far, from up
close
and finally face to face. It's exciting to follow her adventures as she
made
whatever arrangements necessary to be out there in the front row in city
after city, night after night literally driving to beat the band to the
next
gig, so she could be there to exchange gifts and kisses with ELVIS!
ELVIS!
ELVIS!. This is a story that must be preserved by those who were there
so
that generations to come will know the euphoria of being a fan is his
presence. David Kane, Reviewpoint
This book is a treasure that reveals the truth about what Elvis meant to
his
fans. It is written from a sane fan's point of view and her experiences.
Most important to me is the fact she recalls events that even I had
forgotten in the midst of living the experience. She also documents and
proves what I have been desperately attempting to tell people - that
there
is a degree of TRUTH that is totally MISSING from all other accounts of
Elvis' life, his illnesses being the most important to me.
Enjoy this gem... this most wonderful book. Thank you, Sandi, for
writing
this... and thank you for being a true friend to Elvis and to me... and
to
the others who had the most awesome experience of a lifetime. Kathy
Westmoreland, Backing Singer for Elvis (Kathy Westmoreland has also
written
the Foreword) -
It was just three and a half short years ago that I received Sandi's
original manuscript "Raised On Elvis". I guess I was probably
one of the
first people to read Sandi's story. Sandi asked me to peruse her
manuscript
and give my opinion - while also checking for typos. Well folks, I ended
up
reading the original manuscript three times before I returned it to
Sandi -
I was hooked and this was only the draft copy! About a year or so later
I
received Sandi's handmade galley copy that included many of the photos
that
Sandi had taken of Elvis over the years. Once again I re-read the book
and
found it just as enjoyable as the first time - actually even more so now
that it was enhanced with great photos. This is a book written from the
heart, full of love and a tribute to Elvis the "MAN".
This is not just a story about Elvis - it is also a story about my
special
friend Sandi Pichon - a little girl from the South that grew up to be a
genteel Southern lady and became friends with a true Southern gentleman
-
this will always be Sandi's story and will forever remain her legacy!
Pete
Smith, Friends Through Elvis
Sandi Pichon has a unique and very personal story to tell - of her life
as a
12-year old who first visited Elvis and his parents on Audubon Drive,
Memphis - and then spanning Elvis' entertainment career as she attended
his
concerts 100+ times in the '70's. Sandi not only chronicles the little
details that every fan wants to hear (what he wore/sang etc.), but
describes
how it was to be a young farm girl from Tennessee, growing up to become
a
part of Elvis' inner circle. It certainly changed the course of her
life!
Joan and Paul Gansky
About the Author: Sandi Pichon attended Jacksonville University in
Jacksonville, Florida. She has published two cookbooks "Dixie
Delights" and
"Dixie Delights II". She writes for the Times Picayune
newspaper. The author
currently lives in USA with her husband, Stanley.

Jake Hess Talks about Elvis.

Bill Gaither: You know any serious
biography of Elvis Presley would tell you
that Jake Hess was one of Elvis' favorite singer, if not his very
favorite
one.
Whenever Jake and the Statesmen would come to Tupelo to sing, young
Elvis
always came to see them.
Tell me about the early Tupelo days when the Statesmen would come to
town.
And how old would Elvis have been at that point?
Jake Hess: He was just a little bright-eyed kid and they said he never
was
talkative around people, but he'd come to that record table where we had
our
song books and pictures and everything.
He'd look at me and he'd say, "How many suits do you have?"
"How many times
you made a recording?" You know, things like that.
I mean, he was so inquisitive... his little mind, He had to know what
was
going on.
Bill Gaither: Can you still remember the auditorium you performed in
there
at Tupelo? What was it? Was it a high school building or what?
Jake Hess: A high school. And there was... we were just about... every
three
months or so, we'd go to Tupelo, because we'd go to Memphis to the big
sing
at the Ellis Auditorium. And that was a good date we'd play on the way
to
Memphis. And it wasn't... we really had a crowd... the house filled
every
night, but the house wasn't too large.
But it was amazing, we didn't know that that was the Elvis that would
later
moved to Memphis and become a star, until after he had become a star...
did
we know that was the same kid.
Bill Gaither: But he showed up at all programs?
Jake Hess: Yeah, oh yeah.
"It Is No Secret" sung by Jake Hess (around 1970 & 1999)
Bill Gaither: Jake loved songs and stories with a message. One of his
dear
friends, J.D. Sumner once had a conversation over lunch about a friend
of
his who had been in prison.
When asked why the person was in prison, J.D. thought for a second and
said
"Why does it matter?"
Jake loved that story because that's exactly how Jake felt about
everyone.
He didn't care where you'd been or what you had done. He just cared.

Getting back into the groove.

Queen Victoria, Abraham Lincoln, Florence
Nightingale and other characters
from history may soon be able to speak again, as scientists perfect
techniques to recover the sound from recordings that are far too
delicate to
be played.
In the corner of a California university laboratory, two men are
battling
against time to perfect a machine that will read old recordings - using
special microscopes to scan the grooves - and software that can convert
those shapes into sound. Their work could bring history to life.
The dulcet tones of movers and shakers from an earlier age could soon be
heard once again, thanks to scientists Vitaliy Fadeyev and Carl Haber,
who
usually work with subatomic particles at the Lawrence Berkeley National
Lab.
They are now planning to use that technology to give a voice to the
great
and the good down the annals of history.
Haber says the idea came to him by accident after he heard a radio
report
about the problems archivists have in preserving and accessing the
voices
and music of the past. He says a lightbulb went on in his head.
Why not adapt the precision techniques he and Fadeyev are using in a
European-led project on particle physics, and apply it to old
recordings?
Made perfect sense to him.
Historically valuable.

Photo:A groovy kind of history
"We stumbled on the idea and kind of made a connection,"
explains Haber.
"To us, it's a wonderful way forward where basic research in the
physical
sciences can be made to work for another field of research or culture,
which
you might naively think was unrelated to particle physics.
"Of course these are all the human endeavours and it's wonderful
they can
benefit each other. "
Russian-born Fadeyev agrees: "It's great that our very technical
field can
give benefits to other humanitarian activities."
A groovy kind of history.

Photo: Sound can be seen through the microscope
Their first experiments involved extracting high quality sound from old
shellac discs from the 1950s.
The two scientists programmed a precision optical metrology system
normally
used to inspect silicon detectors, to map and photograph the undulating
grooves etched on these old recordings.
The result was a digital reproduction with all the scratches, bumps,
dust
and wiggles ironed out. Those images were then transferred to a computer
and
turned into a sound file to produce a clean version of the original.
Non-invasive
The beauty of this technique is that nothing ever has to touch the
actual
recording, thereby avoiding any further damage to it.
"It's like a fancy Xerox machine," quips Haber.
Early success in reviving The Weavers' 1950 rendition of the classic
Huddie
Ledbetter song Goodnight Irene suggested the two scientists were on to
something.
And the US Library of Congress, in Washington, DC, backs that view.
It has given the scientists funding to perfect their technique and
technology in the hope it can be used to access a huge archive. The
library's files include 128 million items in formats ranging from tape
to
disc and from wax cylinders to tin foil cylinders.
History is something that everyone shares. When you can see it or
hear it,
that real time experience of it happening in front of your can awaken a
whole other dimension for people
Carl Haber
In the past, the library has said that America's audio heritage is in
danger. At least half of the wax cylinders used to record sound before
1902
are gone, because no one bothered to preserve them or because they
weren't
properly stored.
Fungal mould and insects have been the main culprits in silencing the
voices
of Americans from legendary eras such as the Civil War, the conquest of
the
western states, and the early days of slavery.
"They have lost as many cylinders to the mould as to breakages and
other
causes, so mould is definitely one of the major destructors of this old
media," says Fadeyev.
In the corner of another Berkeley lab, two men are battling against time
to
perfect a machine that will read old cylinders using special microscopes
to
scan the grooves and software to convert those shapes into sound.
History speaks
In an early successful experiment, scientists John McBride and Christian
Maul from Southampton University helped retrieve data from a well worn
1912
cylinder recording of a sentimental tune called Just Before the Battle,
Mother. In Berkeley, it was translated into a sound file.
Haber says, "A stylus measures a groove by one point, essentially
where the
stylus sits. The data we take is taken at least a factor of ten if not
at a
higher sampling or resolution than the stylus measures. So if you have
ten
times as much information, you have that much more of a chance to
recover
something. And we could even maybe go 20 or 30 times and increase our
chances even more so."
Sound can be seen through the microscope
Both men are excited at the possibilities in being able to give voice
once
again to cylinders that are said to contain recordings of Queen
Victoria,
poets Alfred Tennyson and Walt Whitman, nurse Florence Nightingale,
actress
Sarah Bernhardt and Germany's WWI leader Kaiser Wilhelm.
Rumours abound that Abraham Lincoln even made a recording during the
Civil
War in 1863.
"History is something that everyone shares. When you can see it or
hear it,
that real time experience of it happening in front of your can awaken a
whole other dimension for people," says Haber.
Vitaliy believes breathing new life into recordings that have been
thought
unplayable might also change the way we view the past.
"I think it's hard to quantify, but it's certainly a great cultural
and
emotional imprint. The very first sample that we reconstructed was the
Goodnight Irene song. It's thought of as a lullaby these days, but if
you
listen to the lyrics it's about adultery, murder and some other things.
That
immediately gives you the feeling for the cultural change between the
1930s,
40s, 50s, and these days."

New Book: Elvis and Other Celebrities.

Elvis was also captured with other personalities
like
Nixon. He was photographed together with Frank Sinatra, Muhammed Ali,

others.

the

Green light to a merger between
Japan's Sony and the music arm of Germany's Bertelsmann.
The European Commission gave an
unconditional green light to a merger
between Japan's Sony and the music arm of Germany's Bertelsmann, in the
latest global entertainment industry tie-up, an EU source said.
"The Commission has given its green light without conditions,"
the source
said, confirming information from sources close to both companies in
Germany.
The Commission, the EU's executive arm, opened an inquiry into the deal
between Sony's music arm and Bertelsmann music business BMG in February
on
concerns that a combined group would dominate the market.
Under the merger, the market will be carved up between four instead of
five
majors: Vivendi's Universal, the newly-created SonyBMG, Warner and EMI.
Together they would share around 80 percent of European recorded music
sales.
The European and US competition authorities have run parallel
investigations
into the merger, which will create the world's largest music company by
market share according to 2003 figures.
The merger will bring together Sony stars such as Barbara Streisand and
Beyonce and BMG stars, including Elvis Presley and Christina Aguilera.
The Japanese and German parent groups argue that their businesses need
to
join forces to tackle the crisis in the global music industry faced with
both pirate CDs and an explosion of illegal music downloading.

Recipes and Meal Memories Fit for the
King of Rock and Roll
Elvis always wanted to return to the place that captured his heart -
Graceland. And the heart of Graceland itself was the dining room, where
Elvis gathered at the eight-foot-long table surrounded by gold-colored
carved chairs to dine with his extended family and friends. The
atmosphere
was always warm and casual. This was a setting that gave Elvis a sense
of
his familial place. This was home.
Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. has joined with Ellen Rolfes Books, Inc.

Elvis And The Stars - Candid Shots Of
Elvis And The Other Celebrities.
Elvis is said to be the most photographed
man in history. If not the most
photographed, he is certainly one of the most photographed anyway. From
every angle and corner, Elvis has been exposed, "recycled" and
captured,
almost from the day he first stepped in at Sun in Memphis, to record
that
little single for his beloved mother - or from the day he redefined
popular
music. Since then, every moment and movement of his life and career has
almost been captured on film.
The result: An enormous collection of Elvis photos spread around the
World.
But what was missing in that huge collection - for a big deal - was some
crucial information of what, whom and who was seen on the pictures.
"Who is
Elvis standing with on that pictures?," you have probably asked
yourself a
hundred times. That problem has now been solved.
Some of
those many
thousands of photos spread around the World is well-known to many Elvis'
fans, thanks to the thousands of books written about the man. Some of
the
most famous - and perhaps most bizarre and controversial of the history
of
popular music - being the ones taken in the Oval office at the White
House
in December 1970. It's off course Elvis' meeting with former President
Richard M. Nixon. At the time being, it was a meeting of probably the
country's (and the World's) two most prominent household-names for every
American citizen. To this day the pictures that captured the event, is
still
as fascinating, as they were back then. They're simply become
household-pictures for every Elvis fan around.
Not alone
But they're not alone. Elvis was also captured with other personalities
like
Nixon. He was photographed together with Frank Sinatra, Muhammed Ali,
Glen
Campbell, Bill Haley, Dean Martin and Sophia Loren among many, many
others.
All of which today is considered to be household pictures as well, in

a book by Robert Raymond Holton
The King Is Dead...
In 1998, Katco published its first edition of Robert R. Holton's
provactive
and intriguing book "The King Is Dead." Now, after five years
of the book
being out of print, the second edition will be unveiled on the
twenty-seventh anniversary of the King's death. Advance order your copy
today...this reprint will be in limited quantity, and it is a MUST-READ
for
any Elvis fan. No author has ever presented such a gripping account of
one
facet of Elvis Aaron Presley's celebrated life AND DEATH like Robert
Holton!

Funeral Director Robert Kendall takes you behind the doors of a
legally-closed enbalming room to reveal the funeral of rock & roll's
greatest legend...
"The King Is Dead" by Robert Holton details the
minute-by-minute play of the
Funeral of Elvis Aaron Presley.

Memphis Funeral Director Robert Kendall
was the last man on the face of the
Earth to see the body of Elvis Aaron Presley following his sudden and
unexpected death in August 1977. Now, for the first time, you will read
about the intimate details of the burial of Elvis Presley and what
Kendall
went through to pay the final tribute to Elvis.
Some have accused Holton and Katco of presenting a morbid and disturbing
tale of history's most famous funeral. But, these critics have obviously
never read this book. "The King Is Dead" is NEVER disturbing;
NEVER mobid.
Instead, it is a touching, heart-warming story of how the world said
goodbye
to a rock and roll legend.

CIRCLE 'G' RANCH PLANS BACK ON AGENDA.
HERNANDO - Horn Lake Mayor Mike Thomas
said Tuesday that Georgia developer
J.D. Stacy plans to resurrect his dream of building an Elvis-themed
development on land once owned by the late singer and 317-acres adjacent
to it.
"He's been back and the Circle G Ranch is back in its original
form," Thomas
said. "He was supposed to close on it (land deal) last Thursday but
I
understand that it did not close for whatever reason. Funding is
supposed to
be in place. I'm going to take the approach that it could happen, but
I'm
going to sit back and watch."
The on-again, off-again land deal involving the singer's former ranch
dates
back more than two years.
Plans then called for construction of two 18-hole golf courses, luxury
condominiums adjacent to the golf courses that would sell for between
$429,000 and $600,000 each in addition to an Elvis-themed theater, guest
houses and a museum.
The plan fell through in December 2002 after the development group
failed to
make payments on its option to purchase the land from the McLemore
heirs.
Elvis Presley Enterprises officials have repeatedly stated that they own
the
exclusive right to Presley's image, name and likeness.
Stacy met with Elvis Presley Enterprises officials in 2002 but no
details of
the meeting have been released.
Meanwhile, owners of the 317-acre tract, said they remained hopeful that
the
land adjacent to the original ranch can be sold.
"The last I heard they were trying to get another appraisal,"
said Bette
Simpson, wife of Vernon Simpson, president of the Hugh Dancy Co. Simpson
owns the entire 317-acre tract east of the Circle G property, owned by
the
heirs of the late W.F. McLemore. "I'll get excited when it actually
closes."
Gerald McLemore, owner of the original Presley ranch where Elvis and
Priscilla honeymooned in 1967 reportedly met with Stacy about two weeks
ago.
McLemore could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
In 2002, Stacy said he planned to capitalize on local legend that Elvis
lost
his wedding ring somewhere on the grounds and never found it.
Presley used to ride horses and motorcycles on the ranch property until
he
sold the land in the mid-1970s.
The original honeymoon cottage and barn are among the only original
structures still standing.

The birth of rock 'n roll.

Elvis Presley, who died on Aug. 15,
1977-that means 27 years ago-is back in
the news again. The King of Rock and Roll's version of That's All Right
was
proclaimed as the song that gave birth to rock and roll. A cover of an
old
blues tune by Arthur Crudup, it was recorded by Presley on July 5, 1954
at
the Sun Studio in Memphis. It was not a hit for Elvis, but it certainly
got
the ball rolling. It caught the attention of DJs all over the US and
later
of RCA Records, who thought there was something in the hillbilly truck
driver that spelled star. What followed was the biggest phenomenon in
the
history of popular music.
Of course, not everybody agrees. Some historians say the first rock
recording was actually Rocket 88 by Ike Turner in 1951. There was also
Bill
Haley who hit the charts with Rock Around the Clock and Shake, Rattle
and
Roll ahead of Elvis in 1954. I admit there is truth to that. But there
is
also no denying the fact that everybody thinks of Elvis when you say
rock
and roll. Presley may not have invented the genre but he was certainly
its
most popular exponent. Turner and Haley had the ideas, the talent and
the
sound but they did not have the Presley sex appeal that drew fans from a
wide spectrum to him like a magnet. Because these fans liked Elvis, they
bought his records, enjoyed his songs and went on to listen to more rock
and
roll.
Today, 50 years after That's All Right was recorded, interest in Elvis
remains at an all-time high. This is of course due to many admirers who
have
decided to devote a lot of their time to keeping Elvis' memory alive and
make the younger music lovers aware of this man's contribution to modern
music. Here in the Philippines, foremost among these is Chito Bertol, a
local Elvis who has retired from performing and the moving force behind
the
Manila Seedling Bank Foundation. Bertol is also chairman and president
of
the Elvis Presley Friendship Club Phils. International and if you like
Elvis, you should try to keep tabs on Chito and his friends. Here are
some
of the things they are busy with right now.
To celebrate the fourth anniversary of the Graceland-accredited Club,
Bertol
has come up with Rare Elvis Duets, the only duet collection of Elvis
songs
in existence today. The CD however, is only available for officers and
members of the Club. So join in if you want one. It has songs culled
from
Presley's film and TV appearances and will surely delight diehard fans.
Just
think. Each time they listen to the CD, they will be able to replay in
their
minds the movie or video footage where their idol did the song.
Some of the real treats are Crawfish with Kitty White from King Creole,
which shows a rare side of Elvis as a singer; the famous rendition of
Love
Me Tender in counterpoint with Witchcraft by Elvis with Frank Sinatra;
and
Don't Cry Daddy, a recording by Lisa Marie Presley with one of her
father's
old hits, You Were Always in My Mind. Also included are There Ain't
Nothing
Like a Song with Nancy Sinatra and three goodies with Ann Margret from
Viva
Las Vegas: Lady Loves Me, You're the Boss and Today, Tomorrow &
Forever.
More on the Club's activities. There will be a concert featuring The
Young
Elvises of the Philippines at the Quattro Music Bar & Restaurant at
96 Timog
Avenue in Quezon City on Sunday, Aug. 15. These are Edmund Arevalo, the
Up &
Coming Elvis; Lito Jauregui, first prize winner of the Cook Magazine and
Eat
Bulaga contest; Nina Ureta, third prize winner and the Lady Elvis of the
Philippines; Richie Barangan, third placer in the Discovery Cable TV
contest
and Alex Torres, second placer of Cook Magazine. A club donation of P300
per
person is requested of the public for entrance and snacks. CDs and DVDs
featuring Elvis, of course, will be raffled off. Call telephone numbers
929-9312, 924-0166 and 929-1681 for inquiries.
For more Elvis news, sounds, trivia, etc., etc., tune in to the Elvis
Presley Sunday Specials hosted by Club chairman Chito Bertol. It airs
every
Sunday, 8 to 10 a.m. over DZSR, 918 AM. Those who want to join the Club
can

City.
004/07/21 SOUNDS FAMILIAR By Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star /
Ep.Gold.Com.
Lisa Marie will be a Featured Artist on SoundStage on July 22nd.

This episode features the eclectic,
dynamic and wonderful Peter Wolf who is
best known for his years fronting the J. Geils Band. Wolf's delivery is
high
velocity all the way with songs including: "Growin' Pain,"
"Long Way Back
Again," "Nothing But The Wheel," "Long Line,"
"Homework," "Believe in Me,"
"Sleepless," "Cry One More Time," "All Torn
Up" and "Waiting on The Moon."
Wolf recently scored a record within Rolling Stone's list of the
"500
Greatest Albums of All Time" with his solo release,
"Sleepless." Throughout
the evening, his soundscape washes through the audience and locks them
into
a syncopated, pulsating rhythm. His effervescent energy parallels
performers
half his age. His soulful vocals and rollicking persona culminate in a
performance not to be missed.
Singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley introduces audiences to her debut
album
To Whom It May Concern in an introspective, candid and compelling
Soundstage
performance. Songs "Better Beware," "SOB," "To
Whom It May Concern," and
"Indifferent" reveal the very modest, human side of Presley
and hint at the
weight she has carried as heiress to the family legacy. Elvis' daughter
does
reveal some resemblances. She seems to simply turn her head a certain
way,
or move her hips at precisely the right moment and the audience is
stunned
to a hush. But it's the music that they came to hear - confessional,
aching
and dark - which carries Presley's sometimes shy,

Elvis Presley's Sun Recordings.
That's All Right Elvis Presley's Sun
Recordings
In the summer of 1953, most likely inspired by a July article in the
local
paper on the Memphis Recording Service and Sam Phillips's recording of
the
Prisonaires, a group of prisoners from the state penitentiary, Elvis
ventured into 706 Union Avenue and asked to record his voice for the
very
first time. There he made a two-sided acetate at his own expense
and
accompanying himself on guitar. The songs he recorded were:
MY HAPPINESS
This song was written in 1933 by Betty Peterson and Borney
Bergantine. It
was recorded in 1948 by John and Sandra Steele, whose release went to #3
on
the Billboard Singles Chart. Others to record it in 1948 were The
Pied
Pipers with Paul Weston Orchestra, Ella Fitzgerald, The Song Spinners,
and
The Marlin Sisters. In 1953 the Mulcays, a harmonica group,
released it as
an instrumental. In 1959 a version by Connie Francis hit #2
on the Hot 100
Chart.
THAT'S WHEN YOUR HEARTACHES BEGIN
This song was written in 1940 by William J. Raskin, Billy Hill and Fred
Fisher. The Ink Spots recorded it in 1950. In 1951, a
recording by Bob
Lamb was released. In 1952 Billy Bunn and His Buddies released a
version of
it. Elvis re-recorded it for RCA on January 13, 1957 at Radio
Recorders.
This version was the B side to the single "All Shook Up" and
it peaked at
#58 on the Hot 100 Chart.
Elvis stopped in at the Memphis Recording Service from time to
time. On
January 4, 1954, just four days before his nineteenth birthday, he
again
paid to record two songs. There were:
I'LL NEVER STAND IN YOUR WAY
This song was written by Fred Rose and Walter (Hy) Heath in 1953.
It was
released in November 1954 by Joni James and then just a few days
later a
version by
