We will release in a
few days a new interesting product.
After the release of two
volumes of the very successful DVD series "Elvis Behind
The Image" (in association with Bud Glass
Productions) we
have developed a new format .
The new documentary will
supplement our choice of premium DVDs of Elvis Presley. It will not
replace the triumphant
documentary series
"Elvis Behind The Image". We are also looking forward to
present your several new volumes
of "Elvis Behind
The Image".
But today we want to
present you our newest production:
ELVIS ADRENALINE
This DVD contains a
brilliant documentary about Elvis Presley and the basic changes in
his life and career in 1968,
1969 and 1970. As it
is already a tradition of our house it has been added
Super8 footage of Elvis in the historic context.
The documentary and
the Super8 material complements one another and an interesting and
entertaining Elvis Presley DVD
has been originated. Some
sensations are waiting for you.
As
well as in our "Behind The Image" products we have found
again the original source of incredible Super8 footage and
it has
been transferred for the first time in highly professional quality
from the original reel. The result is just perfect.

Elvis Outlives Himself On The Charts.
In life and death, Elvis Presley is the
"King", a legendary title that is
now established as a fact of pop history.
The latest edition of British Hit Singles and Albums, published today,
has
compiled the definitive top-50 list of artists who have dominated the
weekly
singles and album charts since the "hit parade" was launched
in 1952.
In its 52-year history, Presley has appeared in both for a staggering
total
of 47 years and two months - four years and six months longer than he
lived.
The 17th edition of the "pop bible", published by Guinness
World Records,
analyses the album and singles success, to provide an overall picture of
artists' sales performance over the half-century.
Following Presley, in second place, is Sir Cliff Richard in a top ten
which
features, in order, the Beatles, Queen, Madonna, Sir Elton John, the
Shadows, David Bowie, Michael Jackson and U2.
The singles chart in Britain has varied in length over its history. When
Presley first appeared in 1956 with Heartbreak Hotel the hit parade
listed
30 records. In 1978, the year after he died, the chart stabilised at its
present length of the top 75 singles. But no matter the number, Presley
is
comfortably out in front in the all-time top-50 UK chart.
The list was compiled from data on every single act ever to have entered
the
UK single or album charts since 1952 and it has revealed a raft of pop
trivia.
"Combining singles and albums charts for the first time allows us
to
accurately measure the greats," said David Roberts, the editor of
British
Hit Singles and Albums.
But even he was astonished at the amazing
Presley statistic.
He added: "It's a massive performance from Elvis, who's notched up
almost a
decade's worth of extra chart life over his nearest rival, Sir Cliff.
"However, Elvis is simply timeless; he just goes on and on forever,
the fact
of that being that he has been in the charts longer than he was on
earth.
"He was 496 weeks clear of his nearest rival.
"Any album released with his name on it is guaranteed to get into
the
charts. He had old fans, and he gets new fans, because he is still cool.
"The Beatles are the same. They just don't become dated."
Mr Roberts said that apart from Presley's musical longevity, the top of
the
all-time chart had not thrown up too many surprises.

FAQs About the Elvis '68/Regal
Theatres Screening Event.
What is the content of the 100-minute
version of the '68 special being shown
for this screening event?
Basically, it is comprised of: the Trouble/Guitar Man show opener, Black
Leather Sit-Down Show #1, a taste of Black Leather Sit-Down Show #2,
most of
Black Leather Stand-Up Show #1, a special montage of funny moments with
Elvis throughout the '68 footage, and the special new If I Can Dream
music
video. At the end, there is a collection of clips to promote the new
Aloha
from Hawaii DVD set. If you are a new fan and do not understand what
this
material is, please see our posting of the detailed liner notes for the
DVD
sets.
At some point, the "funny moments with Elvis" montage will be
posted as a
streaming video here on Elvis.com for your enjoyment. That montage is
not on
the DVD set. It was put together for the screening event. Of course, all
the
footage it's made from can be found throughout the DVD set.
Why does this event not include more cities? Why not include Memphis?
The screening event is a deal BMG in America did exclusively with Regal
Theatres. Contractually, they are prohibited from doing screenings at
non-Regal properties. There are some cities that have Regal properties
or
affiliate properties, but they don't get the screening due to technical
reasons. The property must be one of those already outfitted to receive
and
show the special closed-circuit video feed being transmitted into the
theaters from Regal headquarters. Not all Regal or Regal-affiliated
properties have that kind of equipment.
Elvis's hometown of Memphis, unfortunately, is a city without a properly
equipped theater. BMG and Regal did look into bringing in equipment for
one
night to make the transmission work at one of Regal's affiliate theaters
in
Memphis, but it proved not to be feasible.
Will a similar screening event happen in other countries?
We don't know. We will have to wait and
see if any of the branches of BMG in
other countries put together a similar promotional event as part of the
marketing efforts in their territories. We know they are interested in
doing
so and we certainly hope it happens. If ever there is any further
information to report about this, will post it immediately in News here
on
Elvis.com and immediately issue an "Essential Elvis
E-newsletter" alert.

Miller Celebrates 50 Years of Rock and Roll With Music Icons
Wednesday May 26, 8:02 am ET
Commemorative Miller Beer Cans and Napster Music Giveaways Part of
Festivities.
MILWAUKEE, May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Miller Brewing Company announced this
week
plans to celebrate 50 years of rock 'n' roll -- from Elvis's
groundbreaking
single, "That's All Right," through all the changes and artists
the genre
has seen to this day. Miller is teaming up with Rolling Stone magazine,
Napster and Fender to give rock fans across the nation an earful -- and
more
-- all summer long.
Miller will sponsor activities and events throughout the summer with the
50
Years of Rock and Roll celebration reaching its apex in New York City on
September 17th and 18th, when yet-to-be-named artists will take the stage
at
the legendary Roseland Ballroom in Midtown Manhattan. Legendary artists
paired with today's icons will be featured to celebrate 50 years of rock
with unique collaborations and special guests. Each night will feature
different artists to give consumers a memorable experience that pays
homage
to 50 years of great music.
"We're going to give music fans access
to great music all summer in honor of
the 50th Anniversary of Rock and Roll," said Peter Laatz, manager of
entertainment marketing at Miller. "Summer is a key beer season and
we're
going to kick it off with commemorative Miller Rock and Roll cans, keep it
going with Samsung Napster Digital Audio players and free Napster music
downloads throughout the summer and finish it up with a once in a lifetime
concert."
Miller pays tribute to 50 years of rock with a series of commemorative
cans
featuring past Rolling Stone magazine covers of legendary artists Elvis,
Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Blondie, Willie Nelson and Def Leppard, as well as
the classic Fender Stratocasters used by Eric Clapton and Joe Walsh. The
24-oz. cans of American brewed Miller Lite and Miller Genuine Draft will
be
available in June and July wherever beer is sold in the United States.
To further celebrate the "mark" that certain artists have left
on the music
scene, Miller is dedicating space in upcoming issues of Rolling Stone
magazine that help commemorate the 50 Years of Rock. The creative
executions, which will appear throughout the summer, will celebrate both
the
movements and experiences of music that literally transcend time and hold
as
true today as they did 50 years ago.
Earlier this year, Miller and Napster announced they will partner to award
Samsung Napster Digital Audio Players and $50 worth of music downloads
from
Napster to thousands of lucky music fans 21 and over across the country.
Consumers 21 years of age and older will be eligible to win through an
online sweepstakes or local giveaway promotion. Winners can use the $50 to
download 50 tracks from Napster's catalog of more than 700,000 songs, and
can transfer this music seamlessly to their Samsung Napster Digital Audio
Player for easy listening anywhere or burn to CD.
Consumers 21 and over can find more information about "50 Years of

rock 'n' roll, and Warner Home Video (WHV) has the ultimate DVD to mark
the
momentous anniversary. WHV's The History of Rock 'n' Roll will be released

"The History of Rock 'n' Roll is a must-have for any music lover and
Warner
Home Video is thrilled to be releasing this title on DVD just in time for
the 50th anniversary of rock 'n' roll."
Rock historians worldwide have declared the official beginning of rock 'n'
roll to be July 5, 1954, the day Elvis Presley recorded "That's All
Right"
at Sun Studio in Memphis. This pivotal moment in rock history brought rock
'n' roll into the mainstream and launched a movement that would change the
spirit and culture of America forever. This year on July 5th, Memphis will
lead the nation in a celebration of the 50th anniversary of rock with a
"Global Moment in Time," a nationwide radio tribute where radio
stations
across the nation will simultaneously play Elvis' "That's All
Right," the
song that started it all.
Since 1954, rock 'n' roll has become the most popular and enduring form of
music in America, and The History of Rock 'n' Roll is the definitive
documentary on the stars, songs and history that have made the past fifty
years so memorable. With nearly 10 hours of exclusive interviews, classic
footage and unforgettable concert performances from rock 'n' roll's
biggest
stars, fans can experience their favorite rock moments all over again and
get an inside look at all the moments they didn't see. Features exclusive
interviews with Mick Jagger, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Pete
Townshend, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Page, Jerry Garcia, Jerry Lee Lewis,
Peter,
Paul & Mary, B.B. King, and many, many more era-defining artists whose
personalities and music styles have dominated the airways and the culture
of
America.
The DVD set includes ten episodes, beginning with the early rock 'n'
rollers
of the fifties and the opposition they faced in defining this
never-before-heard style. The program then journeys through the '60's,
with
the British musical invasion, soul music, and the counterculture bands
that
emerged late in the decade. In the '70's and '80's the show explores the
great guitarists of the day, the backlash against disco, punk and much
more,
ending with an inside look at the MTV revolution and the rise of
superstars
like Prince and Madonna.
The History of Rock 'n' Roll was executive produced by Quincy Jones (Tupac
Shakur: Thug Angel, 68th Annual Academy Awards) and is narrated in part by
Gary Busey (The Hand Job, Fallacy). Originally released in 1995 in VHS
format, the collection has become known as the definitive documentary on
rock 'n' roll. The History of Rock 'n' Roll on DVD will be essential for
any
music lover and DVD collector.
HISTORY OF ROCK 'N' ROLL
EPISODE SYNOPSES
Episode 1- Rock 'n' Roll Explodes
A fast paced overview of the entire series- we see rare performances and
learn how the pioneers of Rock and Roll influenced music for the next 40
years. Next we see recordings by the first people to put it all together:
Little Richard, Fats Domino and Ray Charles. The episode ends with Elvis
Presley's first television appearance in January 1956.
Episode 2- Good Rockin' Tonight
Rock's first golden era, a period in the 50's that saw the emergence of
Rock
and Roll's first superstars: Elvis, Chuck Berry, Ray Orbison, Buddy Holly
and the Everly Brothers. The music genre soon goes through a period of
transition with Elvis in the Army, Berry in prison and Buddy Holly dead.
New
artists take the helm in the form of The Beach Boys, The Drifters and Phil
Spector.
Episode 3- Britain Invades, America Fights back
A new revolution begins in 1964 when the Beatles burst onto the scene.
Although they had a string of top hits, they were quick to be challenged
on
the charts by a diverse American counter-offensive, which included Motown
groups as well as the new California sound of the Beach Boys.
Episode 4- The Sounds of Soul
James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles combine gospel, R&B and
dramatic showmanship that created the sound that defined black music in
the
60's. We also see classic performances by other soul legends that paved
the
way to the present for the modern sounds of soul in the music of Luther
Vandros, Whitney Houston and others.
Episode 5- Plugging In
The folk-rock boom in the mid 60's liberated the language of Rock and Roll
and how other artists from Elvis to the Beatles played their music. The
result of this was exemplified in Bob Dylan's famous concert at the 1965
Newport Folk Festival. The movement rapidly picked up momentum leading to
the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, which features legendary performances from
Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
Episode 6- My Generation
In the late 60's drugs, political dissent and utopian visions became
enmeshed in a counterculture that formed with Rock and Roll as the
soundtrack. The period peaks at Woodstock, but the good vibes are soon
quashed by the deaths of Hendrix, Joplin and Brian Jones. The episode ends
on a positive note as the Grateful Dead show that you can survive on good
vibes and good music.
Episode 7- Guitar Heroes
Rooted in the 70's and featuring such legends as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page
and Duane Allman, this episode goes back and forth in time presenting the
story of an instrument that defined Rock and Roll- the electric guitar.
Demonstrations from Carlos Santana, Eddie Van Halen and BB King detail how
their unique styles influenced several generations of players.
Episode 8- The 70's: Have a Nice Decade
In the mid 70's rock was divided into several camps, with country rock,
heavy metal, and disco developing at the same time. From Elton John's wild
outfits to Led Zeppelin's first live performance we will see and hear the
mix of the various styles that came to embody the expressive spirit and
culture of the 70's.
Episode 9- Punk
As Rock and Roll became bigger and bigger in the 70's, it was time for
another revolution- a return to a basic, raw, three cord sound, namely:
punk. From the streets of New York to the underground of London, punk
turned
the status quo on its head. While most of the bands did not become
successful, they were extremely influential to the history of Rock and
Roll.
The punk legacy continues in bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and
Nine-Inch
Nails.
Episode 10- Up From the Underground
MTV rules and makes superstars out of
Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson.
In this last episode we follow the interweaving stories of rap and MTV
from
the early 1980's to 1994. We hear many artists talk about the creative
opportunities offered by MTV, and just as many who criticize the new
medium.
The episode concludes by visiting the 1994 Lollapalooza Festival.

Nicolas Cage And Lisa Marie Presley
Officially Divorced.

Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley took
nearly a year and a half to end a
marriage that lasted less than four months. The divorce was finalized
Monday, according to court papers filed in Superior Court in Los Angeles.
The documents show that neither will pay financial support to the other
and
each will retain any assets they had prior to the marriage. They filed for
separation in November 2002, just a few months after their romantic
wedding
in Hawaii in August of that year.
The actor - filing under his real name, Nicolas Coppola - cited
irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split in the original
divorce petition.
"I'm sad about this, but we shouldn't have been married in the first
place.
It was a big mistake," Presley said in a statement at the time.

The Golden Guys of MGM.
There's a fab new book called The Golden
Guys of MGM.
It focuses on some of the biggest actors from the studio's heyday, such as
Clark Gable, Mickey Rooney, Spencer Tracy, Frank Sinatra and Elvis.
The book features large chapters dedicated to specific stars; notably
Gable
and Elvis. It's a good read; or what I read of it is; though there's few
new
revelations. It's worth seeking out, though.
Sinatra, Rooney, Gable and Elvis are on the cover.

Ernst ICE Comments.

Fine article in the new ICE Magazine, in
which Ernst discusses the new CD
"Elvis At Sun." The article proclaims the CD to be the
"go-to disc for
collectors and mainstream consumers alike who simply want to hear the
brilliant first phase of Elvis' career."
Ernst is quoted as saying, "We've spent the better part of a year
restoring
every single one of these. Every one of those 19 tracks will sound better
than you've ever heard them before. That's very hard to tell people,
because
we say that on every release (laughing). But this time, it really is
true...I've been working with an English and a Swedish (expert), and we've
gone through every one of them, hand-corrected every mistake, readjusted
the
EQ's until we were silly...all to get close to what the original Sun
records
sounded like."
He goes on: "In several cases, we've been able to get a tape that was
one
generation earlier than what we had. Of the 19 cuts, we have new and
improved audio sources on 14 of them."
And: "Just 15 months ago we located a tape that had gone terribly
wrong
(gotten lost). It has better generation masters of seven of the tracks,
including 'That's All Right,' 'Good Rockin' Tonight,' 'I'm left...,' and
'Baby, Let's Play House. We restored the end of 'I'm Left...,' which has
gone bad for so many years; we got the full-length fade out of 'Mystery
Train' on there; and we got both 'I Love You Because' and 'Harbor Lights'
without the reverb that RCA always added to them, because we were able to
get hold of the real tapes."
"Technology has certainly improved in
five years (since 'Sunrise'), but it's
really the time spent...we've had to take this outside normal
recording-studio scenarios, because we never could have paid the bill for
the restoration we've done. It's been done by three people with too much
equipment for sensible people to own, so...no studio costs. At a going
rate
of $250 an hour, this would have been a million-dollar project; we've been
working on it for a year."
"I played it for (an RCA executive) who's ultra-critical, and even he
said
it's like night and day when played against the versions of everything
we've
ever put out before."
New liner notes were penned by Knox Phillips (Sam's son)....

Elvis And Other Celebrities.
Elvis And Other Celebrities - Favourite
Candid Shots is the title of a new
book terribly missed by all Elvis fans. It's written by Elvis Unlimited
writer Martin Kloster and is first A-Z book ever, listing all the
essential
facts relating to the lives of all the other famous celebrities Elvis met
during his life. With every picture there is a
short biography containing the basic facts and details of when, where,
why,
how and who is seen on the picture.
The book is not intended to be a book with many rare and unpublished
pictures of Elvis. Instead it is an essential book with well-known and
rare photos of Elvis together with other celebrities he met in his career,
collected in one single book. A compilation of this kind has not been
attempted before. A one of a kind.
Elvis And Other Celebrities - Favourite Candid Shots will be published
shortly.

ALVIN LEE IS JOINED BY SCOTTY MOORE AND
DJ FONTANA
ON NEW ALBUM ‘ALVIN LEE IN
TENNESSEE OUT MAY 18, 2004.

ALVIN LEE is returning to his musical roots on his new CD, ALVIN LEE IN
TENNESSEE, out May 18 on Rainman Records. On his 25th album, the legendary
singer and guitarist--of Ten Years After fame--is joined by his own
musical
heroes, former Elvis Presley guitarist Scotty Moore and drummer DJ
Fontana,
to cook up an authentic blend of rockabilly and blues. LEE will mark the
album’s release with a six-week co-headlining tour of Europe and
the
U.K. with Edgar Winter that launches April 17 in Oxford, England and wraps
May 27 at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall. A U.S. tour is
expected
this summer.
Ever since he picked up his first electric guitar (a Guyatone) as a kid
back
in Nottingham, England, LEE heard the call coming from Nashville, in the
form of Scotty Moore's gritty, soulful playing on "Heartbreak
Hotel" and
other Elvis hits.
As he assured a local newspaper back in 1967, on the eve of his own
worldwide acclaim for his instrumental wizardry with Ten Years After,
Moore
was his favorite player. Those rockabilly licks burned into LEE's brain
and
helped spark the fire in his playing--a fire that would engulf the world
with his history-making solo through "I'm Going Home" at
Woodstock '69. By
the time the two guitarists crossed paths and briefly played together in
London back in '99, LEE knew that he had no choice but to get into the
studio and tear it up with his hero.
Flash forward a few years and LEE’s getting off the plane in
Nashville
with his "Big Red" Gibson 335 guitar in hand, ready to record a
new album
with Moore. To make the sessions a truly special event, the recording took
place in a space Moore built into his own basement. Not only that: the
band
that would gather there was probably the finest that could be assembled
for
a few days of pure rock & roll: DJ Fontana, the rhythm dynamo on all
those
Moore sessions with Elvis, would lay down his no-nonsense,
nothing-but-the-groove backbeat on drums. Pete Pritchard, a co-founder of
the respected Alligator label, would slap, hammer, and lock his acoustic
bass line into the rhythm, just as he had done on records with Chuck
Berry,
Bill Haley & His Comets, and other masters of the craft. And the organ
and
piano would be manned by Willie Rainsford, who has been summoned to record
or tour with Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Marty Robbins, Steve Earle,
Dottie
West and countless other artists who know great keyboard playing when they
hear it.
The results jump from the surface of ALVIN
LEE IN TENNESSEE. LEE may never
have had a band as tight and soulful as these all-stars. There's not a
wasted note in the pop of Fontana's snare or Pritchard's prowling bass.
And
there isn't a band alive that can play pure rock and old-school R&B
like
these guys either. You won't hear any fancy effects, unless you count that
slapback on some of LEE's lead vocals. Every song in this set exists for
one
purpose only: to inspire the band to hit it with passion and joy. And
every
lick they play is aimed right at you, with the intention of getting you
out
of that chair and up on your feet.
Jump right in with the opening track, "Let's Boogie," on which
LEE digs into
the beat with a sound and feel that recalls Western swing as much as
boogie-woogie. Follow it with "Rock & Roll Girls," where the
guitar changes
hats and evokes the tone and feel of classic Chuck Berry--with a hint of
Little Richard tossed in on the piano. Vintage Chicago R&B sets the
mood on
"Take My Time" and "Let's Get It On"--check out LEE's
chords and fills,
which take us back to some Southside lounge circa the late forties.
"Getting
Nowhere Fast" offers an acoustic moment, though the restlessness in
the
interplay between the guitars that keeps us from kicking back too far.
There's much more too, all leading to a remake of LEE's Woodstock tour de
force, but this time "I'm Going Home" carries a double message:
There in
Scotty Moore's studio, he actually has gone home.
No doubt ALVIN LEE has plenty yet to do in music. Ditto for Scotty, DJ,
and
the rest. But with ALVIN LEE IN TENNESSEE he's reached at least one of his
goals. No matter what happens now, he can pack this music into his memory
and take it wherever he goes.

ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING !

Richard Boussiron's eagerly awaited
ELVIS: A MUSICAL INVENTORY 1939-55 is now on its way to the printers.
The book will be published on Monday, 5 July 2004,
the 50th anniversary of the recording of the song that started it all,
"That's All Right". You will be able to order your copy from
around
mid-June.
DETAILS :
This 'musical inventory' is the product of over 30 years' original
research
including interviews with Elvis' teacher, church ministers, work
colleagues
and fellow musicians. Presented like a discography, it is an
extraordinarily detailed listing of the King's earliest musical influences
-
hymns and spirituals he sang at church, songs he learned at school or
heard
on the radio, the live blues he listened to outside Eulysses Mayhorn's
grocery store in Shakerag - with full historical details shown for each
song. But it doesn't stop there. The enormous variety of
numbers Elvis
sang on the radio, in clubs and at backstage jams during his early career
reveals an already extensive repertoire encompassing blues, R&B,
gospel,
country and pop that will fascinate any fan. As an added bonus, the
book
also includes - for the first time anywhere - complete details of all the
legendary Sun sessions, taken directly from the personal files of Marion
Keisker. Possibly the best-kept secret of the last century, these
files
have revealed a mass of new information
including details of erased titles
and several previously unknown sessions. Quite simply a 'must have'
for
Presley specialists and anyone with an interest in early Elvis.

Stax Museum Hosts Beatles Exhibition.

Following is a press release from the Stax
Museum of American Soul Music in
Memphis. It is a new facility on the site of the famous Stax studio, where
Elvis and other greats of Memphis music recorded. This is about a Beatles
exhibition they've added to the citywide calendar of events for the 50th
Anniversary of Rock 'n' Roll.
THE BEATLES ARE COMING TO MEMPHIS!
Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis, Tennessee, where Elvis
recorded in 1973, welcomes "The Beatles! Backstage and Behind the
Scenes."
Just in time for The 50th Anniversary of Rock 'n' Roll and Elvis Week
2004,
Stax Museum of American Soul Music is bringing to Memphis these
eighty-four
behind the scenes, never before published photographs of The Beatles. They
will be on display at the museum from June 12 - Sept 12, 2004. This is
only
the third American venue to host the show, which is being shown in
conjunction with Memphis' international 50th Anniversary of Rock 'n' Roll
Celebration.
An opening-night reception is planned for 6-8 p.m., June 12th at the
museum.
Photographer Bill Epperidge will be on hand to sign copies of the
exhibition's accompanying book while supply lasts. Live
"Beatles" music will
be performed and cocktails and hors D'oeuvres will be served. Admission to
the reception is free to museum members. General admission is $9 adults,
$6
children 9-12, which includes the full museum tour. Tickets available at
the
door that night or in advance any time at the Stax Museum entrance.
"The Beatles! Backstage and Behind the Scenes," is the latest
traveling
exhibit from the CBS Television Photo Archive. Shown to date only in
Washington, D.C. at the Smithsonian Museum, and in New York City at the
Museum of News and Radio, the exhibit is a fine art photography show
chronicling The Beatles' earth-shaking North American debut on the CBS Ed
Sullivan Show in 1964 and on their first train journey that same year from
New York City to Washington, D.C. The photographs - Paul, 21; George, 20;
John, 23; and Ringo, 23 - were taken by
various CBS photographers that year
and by Bill Epperidge, a leading photojournalist for more than 35 years.
Bringing this rare collection of Beatles photographs to Memphis is just
one
of the ways the Stax Museum of American Soul Music is helping Memphis
celebrate this year's 50th Anniversary of Rock and Roll. According to
Deanie
Parker, President and CEO of Soulsville, the umbrella organization that
operates the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and the Stax Music
Academy,
"Our focus at the museum, of course, is soul music and in particular
the
soul music recorded at Stax Records, where the museum now stands. But we
also celebrate the roots of soul music, which include blues, gospel,
country
music, and other influences, all of which are intertwined in so many ways,
and in so many ways came from Memphis. We are thrilled to host this
exhibition of never-before-published photographs of The Beatles, as The
Beatles are such an integral part of what popular music is today, and
celebrating music of all genres brings together people from all walks of
life, and that is also an integral part of our mission."
The Stax Museum of American Soul Music is now a $20 million,
state-of-the-art, 17,000-square-foot museum located at 926 E. McLemore
Ave.
in Memphis, Tennessee, the original site of Stax Records, which was
demolished in 1988. The museum contains more than 2,000 interactive
exhibits
and artifacts, including films, photographs, records, clothing,
instruments,
an authentic century-old Mississippi Delta church, Isaac Hayes'
gold-trimmed
1972 "Super Fly" Cadillac El Dorado, and other artifacts from
Stax Records'
heyday as the world's most renowned soul music label. The only soul music
museum in the world, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music shares its
Soulsville Campus with the Stax Music Academy, which reaches thousands of
potentially at-risk children in the community each year through music
education, guidance, mentoring, and other programs. The mission of the
Stax
Museum of American Soul music is to promote, preserve, and pay homage to
the
legacy of not only Stax Records, but also other soul music labels such as
Hi, Atlantic, and Motown.
Stax Records is critical in American music
history as it is one of the most
popular soul music record labels ever, second only to Motown in sales and
influence, but first in gritty, raw, stripped-down soul music. In 15 years
Stax placed over 167 hit songs in the top 100 on the pop charts and an
astounding 243 hits in the top 100 R&B charts. Artists who launched
their
careers and/or recorded hits at Stax Records include - among many others -
Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Sam & Dave, Carla & Rufus Thomas,
Booker T. & the
MG's, the Staple Singers, The Bar-Kays, Albert King, Wilson Pickett,
Johnnie
Taylor, The Emotions, Big Star and the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis
Presley.
When you stand in the Museum's Studio A, you are standing in the exact
spot
where such songs as "Green Onions," "Sittin' on the Dock of
the Bay," "Soul
Man," "I'll Take You There," "Hold On, I'm
Comin'" and "Theme from Shaft"
were recorded and changed popular culture throughout the world forever.

Stax Museum of American Soul Music showcases more than 2,000 exhibits that
are fun, fascinating, interactive and entertaining.

On 5th July, 1954 Elvis Presley recorded That's All Right. It is the
single
event generally considered to be the birth of rock 'n' roll. As the
defining
moment in popular music's history, the importance of this single cannot be
overstated - yet interestingly, things moved at such a pace at Sun that
That's All Right was only ever released as a single in the US and has
never
actually been released in the UK as a single before - until now. On its
golden anniversary, That's All Right is released as a 3-track CD b/w the
original B-side, Blue Moon of Kentucky plus an alternate take of That's
All
Right from a subsequent Sun session.
To celebrate 50 Years of Rock'n'Roll, BMG UK and Ireland are releasing two
albums, Kings Of Rock N' Roll and ELVIS at SUN, as well as two vintage
special edition TV specials with two rare DVDs, Elvis: '68 Comeback
Special
Deluxe Edition DVD, and Elvis, Aloha From Hawaii Deluxe Edition DVD, both
of
which collectively showcase over 5 hours of never-before-seen footage.
Kings Of Rock N' Roll celebrates the original Sun recording sessions by
Elvis, which many consider to be the
original birthplace of rock'n'roll, and
also coincides with Presley's first Sun Recording of the single That's All
Right, plus songs from other quintessential rock'n'roll pioneers that
include Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Cliff
Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. Featuring over 28 tracks, this album
encapsulates what the music buying public was listening to during the mid
to
late 1950's .
That's All Right also features on the new BMG album release ELVIS at SUN,
the definitive collection of Presley's work at this historic studio,
recorded with the legendary producer Sam Phillips. ELVIS at SUN is the
single-disc set charting the fledgling career of the boy who would be The
King. It includes all 5 of Elvis's original Sun singles (A & B sides),
plus
rare alternate takes. It is beautifully packaged with rare Elvis photos, a
track-by-track commentary by renowned Elvis expert, Ernst Mikael Jorgensen
and an introduction by Sam Phillips' son, Knox. A limited edition LP vinyl
is also available.
"Rock 'n' roll has been the soundtrack for several generations of
fans and
through the years BMG Music has been one of its foremost archivists,"
said
Executive Vice President of BMG Strategic Marketing Group, Joe DiMuro.
"Now,
we are proud to be able to continue the tradition and release these
storied
recordings for people to rediscover where it all began."
In addition to the two CD releases, BMG UK and Ireland has partnered with
Elvis Presley Enterprises to distribute two comprehensive deluxe DVD box
sets chronicling two of Elvis Presley's most memorable television
appearances. The DVDs ELVIS: '68 Comeback Special - Deluxe Edition DVD and
ELVIS, Aloha from Hawaii - Deluxe Edition DVD features all the previously
released material and an abundance of previously unreleased footage.
The ELVIS: '68 Comeback Special - Deluxe Edition DVD is a three-disc set
featuring all the material shot for Elvis
Presley's 1968 television special,
which is considered one of rock 'n' roll's greatest moments on television
and one of the most magical and important moments of Elvis's career. The
original broadcast version of the special is included for historical
context.
The DVD set features the two complete jam session concerts and the two
complete solo concerts - all with Elvis in black leather - that were shot
as
the resource for the heart of the original broadcast. These four concerts
have never been released in their entirety. Also included are all takes of
the material shot for the original broadcast's two big production numbers
and for the show's opening and closing segments. Over half of the seven
hours of material on this set is previously unreleased. The material is
presented with newly remastered sound and picture.
ELVIS, Aloha from Hawaii - Deluxe Edition DVD is a two-disc set featuring
all the performance material formally shot in conjunction with Elvis's
Aloha
from Hawaii television special - a historic concert event seen in more
than
40 countries by 1.5 billion people when it initially aired in 1973. The
original American broadcast version of the show is included for historical
context.
The DVD set features the complete concert that was adapted for that
special
and the complete rehearsal concert performed two days before. Both
concerts
are presented with newly remastered sound and picture and are being
released
in their complete, uncut form for the first time. Also included is the
raw,
uncut footage shot for the "Elvis arrives" sequence of the
special's
original opening and the raw, uncut performance footage of songs recorded
for the after-show session that Elvis taped as a resource of extra
material
for the American broadcast.

BMG celebrates the 50th anniversary
of Rock'n'Roll with therelease of "Kings Of Rock'n'Roll"
Featuring Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Cliff
Richard, Eddie Cochran, Chuck
Berry, Little Richard, & Jerry Lee Lewis
To coincide with the 50th Anniversary of Rock'n'Roll, BMG are proud to
announce the July 5, 2004 album release of the Kings Of Rock'n' Roll
album.
This marks the very first time multiple recordings (24 tracks in total) by
Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Cliff Richard, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry,
Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis have compiled together on one album.
Stylish, hip, and ultra cool, the collection of milestone rock'n'roll
songs
accurately captures the fever, adulation and pure hysteria surrounding the
'Kings Of Rock N' Roll' at the height of their fame. Now's your chance to
get an exclusive backstage view as rock's greatest performers perform
their
magic, only to reaffirm their contribution to rock as the stuff legends
are
of.
Kings Of Rock N' Roll will be the definitive collection of the stars that
mattered. Six of the seven artists featured on the album are listed in the
'Guinness Book of Hit Singles Top 500 Acts of All Time' with Elvis and
Cliff
being numbers 1 and 2 respectively.
What's more, Cliff Richard has personally selected his best rock 'n' roll
songs for inclusion on the album. Kings of Rock N' Roll features nineteen
Top 20 hits, including six No.1 hit singles.
The album embodies the original roots of 1950's rock'n'roll music that
revolutionised the music of youth culture and society. Without Elvis and
Check Berry, there would be no Beatles or the Rollling Stones.

Biographies:
ELVIS PRESLEY is regarded as one of the most important figures of
twentieth
century popular culture. His musical influences were the pop and country
music of the time, the gospel music he heard in church and at the
all-night
gospel sings he frequently attended, and the black R&B he absorbed on
historic Beale Street as a Memphis teenager. In 1954, he began his singing
career with the legendary Sun Records label in Memphis. In late 1955, his
recording contract was sold to RCA Victor. By 1956, he was an
international
sensation. With a sound and style that uniquely combined his diverse
musical
influences and blurred and challenged the social and racial barriers of
the
time, he ushered in a whole new era of American music and popular culture.
He starred in 33 successful films, made history with his television
appearances and specials, and knew great acclaim through his many, often
record-breaking, live concert performances on tour and in Las Vegas.
Globally, he has sold over one billion records, more than any other
artist.
His American sales have earned him gold, platinum or multi-platinum awards
for 148 different albums and singles, far more than any other artist.
Among
his many awards and accolades were 14 Grammy nominations (3 wins) from the
National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the Grammy Lifetime
Achievement Award, which he received at age 36. Elvis died at his Memphis
home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977.
CHRISTOPHER ASHLEY (Director). His Broadway
credits include The Rocky Horror
Show (Tony nomination) and Voices in the Dark. Most recently he directed
Wonder of The World for Manhattan Theatre Club, Rude Entertainment for the
Drama Department, and newyorkers for Manhattan Theatre Club. His other New
York credits include What You Get and What You Expect and The Most
Fabulous

the
film versions of Jeffrey (Orion Classics) and Blown Sideways Through Life

JOE DiPIETRO (Book). His plays and musicals include I Love You, You're
Perfect, Now Change, The Thing About Men, Over the River and Through the
Woods, The Kiss at City Hall, The Art of Murder (Edgar Award, Best
Mystery,
2000), the upcoming "new" Gershwin musical Heaven on Earth,

Julian Aberbach - Longtime Music
Publishing Partner of Elvis - Dies at 95.
Julian Aberbach died this week at age 95.
He and his late brother Jean were
music publishing dynamos. Most of the music publishing interests Elvis
Presley owned were in partnership with the Aberbach brothers. EPE
continues
to own those interests and enjoys a close, enjoyable and successful
relationship with the Aberbach family in continuing to administer that
catalog of songs.
Last year, Julian Aberbach celebrated his 95th birthday and his 50th
wedding
anniversary. At a party commemorating these milestones, Julian received a
plaque from EPE that reads:
To commemorate the sales of more than one billion Elvis Presley recordings
from the music publishing catalogs of Julian and Jean Aberbach and the
Aberbach Family since 1956.
Thank you for your monumental role in bringing unforgettable words and
music
to a monumental voice and for being a great partner to Elvis and to us in
music publishing through the years. Your impact on the Elvis phenomenon
and
the music industry is eternal.
Presented to:
JULIAN ABERBACH.
All of us at EPE mourn the loss of a dear friend and collaborator. Our
thoughts and prayers are with his family.
