JULIE PARRISH DIES. 

Actress Julie Parrish, known for numerous roles in television and film, including her tenure on the popular TV series Beverly Hills 90210 and co-starring with Elvis Presley in Paradise, Hawaiian Style and with Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professor, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon. We will post further details when her family is ready for us to share them.

In recent years, Julie has participated in Elvis Week events in Memphis, including hosting the Official Elvis Collectors Club conference last August. We mourn the loss of a lovely, lovely friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends in this difficult time.

Why the King's guns will leave Customs men feeling all shook up

THE Elvis Presley museum in Liverpool is fighting to prevent a collection of the King's guns being returned to sender by Customs officials.

The Fingerprints of Elvis museum at the Albert Dock is borrowing six of Presley's beloved pistols for an exhibition, but now has to persuade the Home Office to allow them into the country.
Restrictions have been tightened up since handguns were banned and now the museum faces a lengthy wait before finding out if the weapons can leave the US for the first time.
The collection includes the golden Beretta that Elvis was so desperate to have he bought the house it was kept in, as well as the Derringer that remained in his boot as the paranoid Presley took to the stage in his later years.

The museum's curator, Gerry Goldman, said getting permission was not a formality.
He said: "It's not going to be easy. I have spoken to the firearms department at Merseyside Police who have been very helpful, but since the new legislations after Dunblane they are not able to licence handguns.
"The only way of getting them in legally is getting special dispensation, but there are a number of issues we have to satisy the Home Office on.
"One issue is to make sure we're totally secure, and the other is how they get transported here."

The guns were bought at auction by a private collector in the US for around $150,000 (£100,000).
They include the Smith & Wesson .38 that he used to shoot at his sports car when it refused to start.
There is also a WWI Colt matching the one he presented to President Nixon, the Derringer he took on stage with him, and a Smith & Wesson magnum engraved with Elvis' motto "Taking Care of Business", along with his prize Python 357 Magnum. Mr Goldman said: "Elvis had a passion for guns. Along with martial arts and religion, they were one of the great passions of his life and he would just buy hundreds at a time. But there are only a few special guns with a particular meaning, or that he used frequently."

A spokesman for Customs & Excise said that paperwork would be examined rigorously before the guns would be allowed into the country.
He said: "Guns are potentially a problem in terms of prohibitions and restrictions as they are offensive weapons.

There is the potential for them not to end up where they say they are going.
"The important thing to ask is, why are they being brought in? If it is to be put into a museum then that, to my mind, is a perfectly legitimate reason to be bringing them in.

"I am sure they are not the first old guns to be brought into the country."
Rock 'n' roll star who had a lifelong obsession with guns

EARLY photographs of Elvis Presley as a child show him dressed as a cowboy complete with pistol and gun belt. It was the start of a lifelong obsession with guns for the king of rock 'n' roll.
There are an estimated 100 firearms in the archive at Elvis' home of Graceland, including engraved and personalised Colt .45 autos and Berettas.

Elvis carried concealed guns wherever he went out - sometimes as many as three on his person. Towards the end of his life, when he was receiving constant death threats, he even had a handgun while on stage in Las Vegas.
Not a man to do things by halves, his collection contained everything from sub-machine guns to M16's, which together with his bodyguards - the "Memphis Mafia" - he would shoot at one of the several ranges he had constructed at Gracelands.

Elvis even presented President Nixon with a boxed Colt. 45 in 1971, although was not actually allowed to carry it into the White House. In return, Nixon - with no irony - presented him with a badge designating him an official of the Federal Drug Enforcement Bureau.
Early on in his career, his PR-savvy svengali, Colonel Parker, discouraged any articles saying that Elvis liked guns. But, given the king's liking for shooting at TV sets in hotels, it soon became common knowledge.

Unlike the museum that bears his name, Customs never presented a problem for Elvis.
By having his own plane, he and his trigger-happy bodyguards could criss-cross the country and go in and out of airports without ever being checked.

TUNE IN THE CAT TO GO BACK IN TIME FOR ELVIS MEMORIES.

George Klein is taking his long-running Elvis Hour radio program to The Cat 98.1, beginning Sunday morning. 

The show will air at 7, followed by Breakfast with the Beatles at 8 and Redbeard's in the Studio at 9. 

Klein, an Elvis intimate, has been doing the show for 23 years. It includes music, updates about Elvis-related activities and a feature that goes back in time to events surrounding Elvis while he was alive. Klein also conducts interviews with contemporary musicians, as well as archived interview segments Klein taped with Presley. 

The program had been airing on a small Arkansas oldies station. The Cat will be the show's fifth home in its 23-year history, which began at Sam Phillips's old WLVS-FM. 

Klein was a deejay at the station when Phillips suggested an hour devoted to Elvis, and said he would run it commercial-free. No commercials? That would be unthinkable today.

This is another good show and one where Elvis makes reference to his plane during Early morning rain where he changes the lines to:-“Big 880 set go..”Also after introducing Kathy tonight he makes some extra comments about last night. Interestingly he gets a little boy on stage before performing hound dog and does a slightly different version with a Polk Salad Annie styled ending. Jerome Monroe replacing Ron tonight gets introduce as ‘‘ THE STUMP ” I’ll remember You seems to be a highlight song tonight and a 2nd version of early morning rain this season is a bit fast, but still a very good full version. The most noticeable difference in drumming is during fairytale and Polk Salad Annie.The best sung part of this show is from the intros onwards

PIC OF THE WEEK.

A 1961 bl/w picture from the benefit show in Hawaii.The show was slated for Sunday, March 25 - 1961 at 8.30 P.M. at the Bloch Arena in Pearl Harbor. There were 4000 tickets sold in the price range from $ 3 - $ 10. 
The show was opened by the Phil Ingall Orchestra, followed by an Hawaiian comedian; Sterling Mossman. Then there were performances of Boots Randolph (sax) , Floyd Cramer (piano) and The Jordanaires (vocal) before country comedian, Minnie Pearl hit the stage. Finally after the break, Rear admiral Robert L. Campbell introduced Elvis on stage.

Elvis wore his gold lame jacket and black dress pants. This would be the last time Elvis would ever wear the gold lame jacket. The concert itself would become the last performance on stage till Elvis return on stage, almost 8 years later in Las Vegas in 1969.

The show raised nearly $65,000 for the USS Arizona Memorial building fund. This show created one of the biggest private donations to the memorial.

JAMES BURTON LIVE ON AUSTRALIAN TV.
	James Burton was interviewed live on Australian TV this morning (Tuesday) The TV Channel 7 morning show "SUNRISE" interviewed James live from the states, just after 8 am (local time) and it was a very nice interview. James spoke highly about Elvis and his music and why the band accepted the Australian shows offered to them. Great stuff for the Australian Elvis Fans.
