LISA MARIE'S MOM WATCHES HER IN VEGAS,

Lisa-Marie Presley's appearance at the Divas Duets show in Las Vegas was the first time her mother Priscilla Presley ever saw her perform live for fans.

Presley, who graced the stage with Pat Benatar at the Thursday night extravaganza, also arrived at a personal milestone with her first ever performance in the American gambling capital - where her father Elvis Presley had performed three decades earlier.

Former Dallas star Priscilla says, "I think her dad would be very, very proud of her. She's really strived to be her own person.

"It really brings back memories. Never did I ever think that I'd be here a second time around."

The song line-up for The Concert has changed. Besides the inclusion of five new songs also “Funny How Time Slips Away” and “A Big Hunk O' Love” are back in the line-up. A big surprise is the inclusion of "If I Can Dream". LISA MARIE PRESLEY ON TOUR.

Dates have been confirmed for the debut tour by Lisa Marie Presley, who will join Chris Isaak on a 17-city U.S. tour kicking off July 11 at the FleetBoston Pavilion and hitting key markets including New York City, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Memphis and Nashville.
Presley has been confirmed to perform live at New York City's Rockefeller Plaza June 20 as part of "The Today Show" outdoor concert series.
She also will perform on "VH1 Divas Duets," airing live from Las Vegas Thursday at 9 p.m. An episode of VH1's "Driven" devoted to Presley will premiere June 1.
Additionally, Presley's special acoustic performance on "AOL Live Sessions" premiered May 15. Presley's recently released debut album, "To Whom It May Concern," entered the Billboard album charts at No. 5 and has now been RIAA certified Gold.

MEMPHIS IN TUNE WITH ELVIS ESTATE.

In Memphis, Tenn., pictures of Elvis Presley and Graceland, his former mansion turned museum, appear on most of the Convention & Visitors Bureau's promotional materials. But the agency's vice president of communications rarely needs permission. "Graceland's over 20 years (old) now; it's really well established," said Denise DuBois Taylor. "They've worked out the kinks." Taylor has a set of photos that Elvis Presley Enterprises allows her to use. For an unusual item, she'll send them an e-mail: "We're going to be working on this promotion. If you have a problem, let me know," she said.
Taylor, who has worked for the visitors bureau for the past decade, can't recall any disputes. She doesn't need permission to identify Memphis as the home of Elvis Presley or Graceland. "Those are just statements of fact," she said. "There's nothing to debate." Bobby Davis, a spokesman for Elvis Presley Enterprises, described the relationship as "very warm, very friendly." "Elvis and Memphis, there's a connection between the two," he said. "You have really a perfect marriage of a city and an artist."

CLINTON: ELVIS' SOULMATE?

Bill Clinton is trying to ride on the coattails of Elvis Presley. With opening day less than two years away, officials at the Clinton Presidential Library Foundation are putting up so-called "Bill" boards along major highways leading to Little Rock, Ark., as well as in Memphis, Tenn., where foundation director Skip Rutherford is involved in partnership talks with Graceland, The Hill newspaper reports.

Rutherford's theory is that anyone interested in touring The King's mansion will want to drive 140 miles south to learn more about Clinton because "Elvis was the president's musical hero," he explains. The Clinton Library plans to stage a special preview exhibit of Clinton's collection of Presley records, scheduled for later this year at Little Rock's Cox Creative Center. "He had records, memorabilia, all kinds of things," Rutherford says. "Clinton was 'Elvis.' That's what the press nicknamed him. I think there's a natural linkage."

NEW TELL- ALL BOOK ON ELVIS' MANAGER DUE IN JULY.

A new book, The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story Of Colonel Tom Parker And Elvis Presley, is scheduled for publication on July 15. Author Alanna Nash, who also wrote the 1995 book Elvis Aaron Presley: Revelations From The Memphis Mafia, calls Elvis' legendary manager a "conman, illegal immigrant and wanted murderer, who more than anyone was responsible for Elvis's success, his legend, his sad decline, and his death." The book even makes the shocking claim that Parker once bludgeoned a woman to death.

According to Nash, Parker was born Cornelis van Kuijk in Holland. It was there that he allegedly killed a woman--then fled to the U.S. the following day. He entered the country illegally, and joined the U.S. Army using the name, "Tom Parker."

The book also claims Parker deserted his army unit, suffered a nervous breakdown and was discharged for psychosis, psychogenic depression and emotional instability.

ELVIS NIGHT WILL ROCK IN SUSSEX.

Brighton, England is to become the regular meeting place for Elvis fans in the south thanks to local fanzine, "The Elvis Express" and The Hanover Bar in Queens Park Road, Brighton.
The first Elvis night will be held on June 26th with more to follow. Lee Dawson, editor of the Elvis Express said: "We were looking for a way to bring Elvis fans together in one place to meet up with old and new friends, listen to the King and raise money for a good cause".
Each Elvis night will benefit the Chestnut Tree House, which is a hospice for Children with terminal illness.

JAKE HESS IN HOSPITAL.

Singer Jake Hess, is currently in hospital. He has had problems with his kidney and the hospital have had to fluid put back in to rehydrate. His family are now worried in case he has congestive heart failure and ask for your prayers. Jake of course was a longtime friend and influence on Elvis' own style. He appeared with Elvis on the 'How Great Thou Art' album and his group the imperials back elvis on numerous ocassions.

ELVIS IN LIVERPOOL.

In June the exhibition 'Fingerprints Of Elvis" will open in the Albert Dock in Liverpool (the Beatles' city). The influence of Elvis on the Fab Four and whole Mersey Beat scene is legendary. With this exhibition they want to honour Elvis for his contribution to "making Liverpool the world capital of pop music".

The exhibition got his name from one of the items on disply, Elvis' fingerprints (for getting a gun licence). Other items are Elvis' Harley Davidson, guitars, Army insignia, karate belts and stage suits. A guided tour will be narrated by David Stanley.

Regarding the news about the 'Fingerprints Of Elvis' Exhibition in Liverpool. I was always under the impression that Memphis was the musical capital of the World and not Liverpool. Perhaps David Stanley could remind the visitors who attend of this fact.

LISA MARIE TOPS ELVIS WITH LONDON CONCERT.

LONDON (AP) - Lisa Marie Presley has achieved one musical landmark her father never managed - playing a concert in Britain.

The 35-year-old daughter of Elvis Presley performed songs from her debut album, "To Whom It May Concern," in front of 200 people at a London nightclub Monday.

Elvis visited Britain only once, making a two-hour stopover at Scotland's Prestwick Airport as he returned from military service in Germany in 1960.

"I thought she was amazing," said one member of the London audience, British comedian Frank Skinner. "A bit like Avril Lavigne."

The How Great Thou Art Sessions that will be released on 2001 label, will probably be completely in MONO. It also will be a 3 cd set.

The same sessions were also announced by LMP. LMP will release a 4 cd set with stereo recordings, LMP will also include the masters in a soundquality that’ll blow your socks out. These masters were remastered by Joan Deary, but unfortunately the tapes got lost.

However, now those tapes were found again.
LMP will give out an announcement this weekend about this release.

CHARITY AUCTION RESULT.

Last Sunday's auction in Cultural Center 't Getouw in Mol Belgium was a smashing success. In less thank three hours time over $US 10,000.00 was raised for the Belgian Cancer Research Fund. One of the highlights in the auction catalogue was a cherry red Phoenix acoustic guitar, donated to the auction and personally signed by John Wilkinson. The winning bid was $US 420.00. A report on this auction is broadcasted on VRT national tv, June 1st.

NICK GRIPPO DIED.

Caterer to the stars Nick Grippo, who prepared morsels for Oscar night galas, celebrity birthdays and Hollywood movie wrap parties, has died. He was 64. He served in the Army in Germany in the special services unit where he worked at a radio station and interviewed Elvis Presley on his last day in the military.

ELVIS INCS.BLOCKS LOCAL TRIBUTE SHOW.

The song that people at Seven Angels Theatre in Waterbury are singing this week is "Don't Be Cruel."

But Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. got all shook up when it found out that a small, nonprofit theater was planning a musical tribute to the singer titled "The King of Memphis: The Music of Elvis." It charged that the theater was using the Presley name, image and songs without the approval of the licensing organization.

For now, the King has left the building.

The sudden exit of the show threatens the existence of the theater, says founding artistic director Semina De Laurentis. Seven Angels is in its 12th season.

The Elvis show was set to play May 8 to June 8, but the theater received a cease-and-desist letter Monday, saying legal action against the theater would be taken if it opened the show. The theater notified The Courant in a fax on Friday.

"This comes up from time to time," said Gary Holbey, vice president of the Presley organization, adding that there was legal action pending this week against an unauthorized show in Munich.

The Memphis-based organization, created by the Presley Estate and the Elvis Presley Trust, is the exclusive owner of the trademark of Elvis Presley and protects the authorized use of the Presley image for commercial profit. It also owns the publishing rights to many of Presley's songs. "Commercially exploiting his name, image or likeness in a stage show involves our rights," said Todd Morgan, director of media and creative development for the Presley organization. A Broadway musical featuring the music of Presley is being planned.

"It never occurred to me that you can't even say `Elvis' on stage without permission," said De Laurentis, who added she was in the process of obtaining the performance rights to the music when the Presley group presented her with the threat to shut the show down. Holbey said his organization was not in communication with the theater about the rights of songs it holds.

The Seven Angels show was created and staged by De Laurentis and features five performers and a pianist telling the singer's life through narration and his songs. No one "played" Presley, said De Laurentis: "This was not an Elvis impersonation show."

The theater canceled the production and is looking at another show to put in its place. Although the theater entered the season debt-free, this season it was struggling with a "five-figure" deficit that De Laurentis hoped the Presley show would ease. With the cancellation of the show, the theater's red ink is now more than $100,000.

De Laurentis said she feared that the loss of the Presley show could force the theater to close for good, because it does not have an endowment or a reserve.

"We're looking for another angel or two," she says.

Mexican songwriter and producer Armando Manzanero took home a Latin Billboard's Lifetime Achievement Award for expanding the boundaries of Latin music. Manzanero, 68, recorded his first album in 1959. He has written more than 400 songs, which have been recorded by artists ranging from Luis Miguel to Elvis Presley (who recorded "It's Imposible").

THE PERFECT GIFT

Set for release on May 13 (Exactly 30 years after this actual event) on the TRIANGLE label comes Elvis’ special 3 am show as recorded on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1973 at the High Sierra Theatre in Del Webb’s Sahara Hotel, Stateline, Nevada.

Although it’s an audience recording, the sound is crystal clear and far above average, even better than most soundboards. Help Me Make It Through The Night, Steamroller Blues, Bridge Over Troubled Water (with reprise), My Way and a very rare version of Faded Love are among the highlights of this show. Elvis is not very talkative but it seems he is in a pretty good mood and delivers a very good show.

I'M LEAVIN IMPORT CD UPDATE.

This new release from Sweden on Silly Billy Records should be out at the end of May. According to the e-mail just received, this CD would contain more bonus tracks than what was previously announced. The show features on this CD is the same as " Vegas Birthday Show " ( released in 1993 on the Stage Entertainment label ) but from a different tape and not with the same sound. More details when we have it.

EPGOLD’S Australian correspondent Bob Hayden has sent us some extracts from a very interesting story that was told and then printed in the Australian media during August 1967.

We all know that Bob likes to research the stories of yesteryear, especially Australian and New Zealand musicans that have meet Elvis Presley, and this one is quite remarkable, and will test the memories of a few Elvis researchers memories

“My mate SOLD Elvis Presley”

The dark-haired, good looking kid fronted up to the TV cameras, unleashed his guitar and hips, and began belting out a wild rock - n – roll number that exploded out of the TV set I was watching.

I didn’t like his voice that much, but he generated an electric atmosphere. He had presence with a capital P; he had the kind of dynamic impact rarely seen in showbusiness.

I turned to the cigar – smoking person sitting next to me and said; “You should make a million in the first year with that kid. He’s great.”

My friend replied: “ I’m not handling him anymore. Yesterday, I sold his contract to Tom Parker for $30,000.”

The kid was Elvis Presley, who was making his second appearance on the “Ed Sullivan Show.” The man who had sold his contract was Oscar Davis, one of the most dashing showmen and gamblers in America, and a man who launched countless big stars.

"Meeting Elvis is one of my most vivid memories of my 12 years in the United States and Canada, many of them in Hollywood as a singer, hypnotist, theatrical agent, hotel entertainment organiser, and TV character actor.

"Presley was one of the host of big names I rubbed shoulders with during those years. In company with Oscar Davis and Colonel Tom Parker, I met Presley several times and found him a good, clean- living kid who spoke respectfully, and knew exactly where he was going.

"Oscar went to a card game with his $30,000 and lost it without the blinking of an eyelid.

I believe that Colonel Tom Parker made three million dollars in the first year with Elvis.

"With Oscar, I toured Canada and the United States with a young songwriter – singing genuis he managed. The young entertainer’s name was Hank Williams, probably remembered in Australia for his great songs “Cold Cold heart”, “Your Cheating Heart” and “ Kaw-liga”. Hank could write the words and music to a song in 20 minutes as he sat in the back of our car travelling between shows."

The extracts were taken from an interview given by Tex Morton to Colin Mackay. Tex was billed in the states as “Australia’s King of the cowboys” when he toured there.

Bob is most interested in the sale of the Elvis Presley management contract, as it has been written that that another well known person was paid the fee for the selling of the contract? Could it be that Colonel Tom paid his good friend Oscar, to make sure he got Elvis into his stable as fast as possible. I wonder if we will ever find out.

I hope your readers get pleasure reading this little story from one of Australia’s greatest entertainers. Tex Morton wrote and recorded a song that mentioned Elvis in the lyrics when he came home from one of his very early USA trips. This was in the late 50’s.

A 100-minute version of the TV Special Elvis Lives is to be released as a stand-alone DVD on October 21, 2003. Plans are for an abundance of previously unseen footage from the special, still photo gallery and extended interviews.

ELVISNIGHT IN SWEDEN.

The Swedish Public Service company, SVT, will have a 12 hours long Elvis evening on 17-18 July. It starts at 21.00 the 17th and ending the 18th 09.00. And no commercial breaks, just 12 hour Elvis!

The Elvis night starts with showing the movies "Jailhouse Rock" and "Viva Las Vegas". It continous with the documentary "Elvis and June" and other documentaries that include the making of Elvis first album and another that depicts Elvis generosity and charity work. The event ends with the shows "One Night With You" and "Elvis Aloha from Hawaii"

Only available from HMV Berlin, Germany.
These booklets were only available for the first 1000 copies sold and sold in a matter of days.

It is a 16 page booklet written in German language containing a short bio on elvis, the a-z of elvis, a competition and part of the HMV elvis catalog. The tracklisting is the same as the normal release.

The cd itself is the UK pressing from Disctronics.

KING SIZE LAW SUIT?

King Size Law Suit? Tri-Villa Trust of Boston filed a lawsuit yesterday in federal court in Boston claiming both CNN and Universal Studios used without permission photographs of Elvis and Priscilla Presley that belong to the trust. The suit alleges CNN violated Tri-Villa's copyright and misused the two photographs, both taken in Palm Springs, Calif., by showing them on ''Larry King Live'' during an interview of Joe Esposito, who is billed as Elvis's confidant, about his relationship with the King. And Universal used the photos - one of the couple locking arms and drinking juice and the other with Priscilla on Elvis's lap - in a DVD without permission. The amount of damages sought was not specified.

RAY BARRACKS US ARMY IN GERMANY CLOSED BETWEEN NOW AND 2008.

According to the Headquarter of the US Army, with its base in Heidelberg/Germany,
the barracks and military objects in Gießen, Friedberg, Wetzlar and Bad Nauheim will be closed
by 2008 when the last soldiers of the 1st armor division have moved to other barracks. one of those
military objects is the Ray Barracks in Friedberg, in the northern part of Frankfort, where
Rockstar Elvis Presley was stationed from 1958-60, serving as a jeep driver.
