ELVIS ORIGINAL BACK UP MEMBERS REUNITES.
NEW ORLEANS
- All the King's men are back - absent Elvis.

Elvis' longtime musicians got together in a down-home bowling alley/music hall this week as part of the Ponderosa Stomp, a fringe festival that has sprung up around the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
It was a who's who of the guys who backed Elvis Presley throughout his turbulent and revolutionary career from the gig circuit in Memphis in 1950s to worldwide fame.
Wednesday night, the King's guitar players Scotty Moore and James Burton - legends in their own right - and longtime Elvis drummer D.J. Fontana played Elvis classics, assisted by Paul Burlison, Kim Curtis and others.
Standing in on vocals for the ducktailed boy from Tupelo was Big Sandy, a Southern California singer whose Fly-Rite Boys travel the country in a yellow school bus playing rockabilly, Western swing and mariachi classics.

It was the closest that 700 mortals, packed into the Mid-City Bowling Lanes, a music hall known as Rock 'N' Bowl, could get to witnessing the smoldering volcano of rock's revolution.
"If someone had told me that tonight, or anytime, that I would end up with Elvis' guitar players and drummer on stage, I wouldn't have believed it in a million years," said Big Sandy, who was asked out of the blue to accompany the aging legends on vocals.
"In a way it's like a family reunion," said Moore, 71, who has also been a successful music producer in Nashville.
In the summer of 1954, Moore met Elvis, an aspiring singer, and the two unknowingly changed the course of music history when they and bassist Bill Black recorded Elvis' first hit, the blues song "That's All Right Mama," in the studio of Sun records in Memphis.

"He's as popular being dead 25 years as he was when he was alive. Explain that to me?" Moore said.
"I go to Europe and in the autograph lines there are grandparents, people my age, with their grandchildren, and they'll have an Elvis record under their arm wanting to be signed," Moore said.
Moore was recently inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and he has a Gibson guitar named after him, modeled after the original ES-295 that he played in the old days.

COVER STORY ROLLING STONE

Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen
They brought sex, passion and adventure to rock & roll

Elvis Presley was the big bang. He was the most influential single figure in the history of American pop culture. He changed the way we looked, thought, dressed, held a guitar. He didn't invent rock & roll, but he defined it in a way that everyone who followed him owes him a debt. While parents were listening to Patti Page and Perry Como, Elvis was inspired by the raw sensuality of country and blues. But he didn't limit himself to either genre: He melded them into something real and electrifyingly new. His early Sun records are the blueprint for the birth of rock. You could argue that Elvis happened so big because he was white, handsome, sexy, young and managed by a master showman, but you can't deny his impact. And have I mentioned sex yet? Girls reached puberty just listening to his records, but once they saw him on television, every parent, religious and political leader ran for the hills. Elvis took the power of sexuality and rebellion and showed us how to be free.
Bob Dylan enabled rock & roll to grow up and survive. He injected the power of language and ideas into the music. It was suddenly no longer just teen celebration and fantasy but an art form as vital as film and literature. John Lennon once told me that he was inspired by Elvis but challenged by Bob Dylan. There's a good chance that without Dylan there'd be no Rubber Soul or Revolver. He became an icon because he had the talent and the courage to say things that no one else ever had before. Dylan captured what was on a million minds and turned it into poetry. With "Blowin' in the Wind" or "The Times They Are A-Changin'," he set a whole new standard. The times were changing, and Dylan changed forever how much you could say in a song and the way you could say it.

Bruce Springsteen gave people faith in rock & roll and in themselves again. In 1975, when Born to Run was released, American rock & roll fans were still reeling from the deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison, and coping with the national tragedy of the Vietnam War. There wasn't a lot of reason to believe in music or the future. I know, because I was twenty-two at the time. Bruce showed me and his audience and whoever would listen what an uncompromising will can achieve. To me, part of what Bruce brought to this world was a complete lack of compromise. You couldn't buy, rent or borrow Bruce Springsteen in any way. That's one of the most admirable, attractive and chilling qualities I've ever come across in a human being. And it came across in his music, too. Bruce brought together the poetry of Bob Dylan, the innocence and sexuality of Elvis Presley and the live heat of James Brown. Twenty-five years later, he still reflects all that. After 9/11, Bruce and his music once again helped us through the darkness.

Elvis, Dylan and Bruce are all part of a story. They all had the gift. They all had the voice. And they all hit that big button that made millions of people say, "That's me." The story is bigger than all of them, but it's unimaginable without any of them.

AN EXCLUSIVE INDEPTH INTERVIEW WITH ERNST JORGENSEN. PART 1.
By Andylon Lensen & Ep.Gold.Readers.

Well, it took a little while before Ernst and I were both satisfied on the interview we both wanted, because this time we (I was more nosy of course...) wanted to do it right!!!.
Anyway, last week we had several phone conversations (I think four-five times ) next to the e-mails from our Ep.Gold readers who had the opportunity to participate this time and allowed them to ask Ernst also some serious questions concerning the upcoming releases on the FTD- RCA / BMG CD Labels, etcetera.

From my part this is the loooongest interview I ever did with anyone in the Elvis World, I guess all in all, I had OVER 50 questions and most of them were clear enough for me to publish, some I am not allowed to publish and a few questions I made, I went too far.... a quote by Ernst; "I can not answer these questions, Andylon these are strictly confidential only for
RCA/BMG"

Well, what the heck I thought and said to Ernst: "I and the Elvis fans wanted to know", that's why I am asking you these questions....lol.

I am the Interviewer Ernst...

"yes , Andylon and "I am the one who can answer you or not”.... lol

RUMOURS.

Ernst, what must be very irritating for you is, ( at least for me ) that there is not a week passing by or there pops-up a new rumour.
I know BMG is NOT paying you your wages by answering all those other Elvis web sites by answering them if it's true or not.
I do know you get paid when you make a public statement to promote a new release on FTD- RCA /BMG releases..
At least because these are facts..lol

It is sad that they even mention they are shy about doing this but at the same time it goes on and on, and there is always...we heard this and that, or there is a rumour, a maybe, a possibility..... But they just wham-bam-bam copy it from other sites and just publish it.

Wham, bam, bam, Andylon?

Oh, that's just the words I use for their middle name, wham, bam, bam. Sites...lol
Well, normally if you want to publish the facts at least you can do is first check it out or take the effort to make some phone-calls before publishing NEWS... that's how they call it, Ernst.... News... maybe they should change their name into Yellow papers News
and it is sometimes annoying for me too Ernst, because our site are getting e-mails, if it is true or not and I am not able to answer them right away...

so here I go again..send e-mails or make phone-calls to the BMG US and UK or to you to find out the facts.
And mostly the answers: "What? Uhhh, Really???, Oh, I didn't know that, where can we order it, Andylon...lol"
That's why we take all the effort, time, money on phone-calls to check it first before we publish it and I can say this also for the site from Paul Dowling World Wide Elvis and Solid Gold Elvis.

Now what I did Ernst, with all the rumours from the last couple of years ( and some rumours started to lead their own life and up until today ) and they still mention and talk about it; that it exists, it is in the vaults, and on and on...
I placed the rumours on one pile and want to throw them to you.....hihi

And I have to throw the pile rumours back with answers, Andylon.

Right Ernst.

Okay, Andylon...call me back on Monday afternoon and we work on this.
And we did...and the following days, last week...so here it goes :

The last rumour this week published on other sites is that the new upcoming FTD "Southbend" , contains bonus tracks.
And one bonus track is a "NEW" song that Elvis sings during the introduction?
Is this true, Ernst?

What? No,no, this is not true at all, Andylon.

Okay, but will there be bonus tracks on this CD and how many?

We will add 3 bonus tracks.

Are the titles and information on these bonus tracks known yet?

Even on the bonus tracks whe haven't decided which tracks we will add, we got about 200 songs to add as bonus tracks.
We are now focused completely on the "Close-Up" box-set and working on the compilation of "2nd To None", album.

How come we don't get any alternate of "Good Luck Charm" , On Studio B. That was the place to put it officially for the first time: isn't it obvious?

There are no unreleased takes of "Good Luck Charm", sorry.

For the "Girl Happy" CD, why is it that we don't get an outtake of "I've Got To Find My Baby" , with the extra verse?

Because we don't have it in our vaults.

I presume track 24 on "Girl Happy" is going to be the master version of the main title at the "correct" speed. Am I right?

Yes.

On which track do we hear the saxophone player, mentioned in the footnotes of "It Happened At The World's Fair" ?

Good question - I don’t have the time to listen to it now, so let's discuss when you have heard the record.

Is FTD going to release in the same movie series "Viva Las Vegas" ?

Yes, that's the intention.

How are you going to manage the movies with very limited number of songs like" Follow That Dream" and talking about "Follow That Dream" , did you find the master tape in Stereo?

No, the Stereo master is still missing. As for how we release the short ones, and those with no outtakes, we haven't decided yet.

Naturally, "On Tour" , is on everybody's mind. What's going to happen with this one finally?

As for the movie, only TURNER knows, they own the rights.
As for the music, we will definitely release more of it on both RCA and FTD.

And on "Close Up"" box-set. Can you verify if they are going to present master versions of 70's songs without overdubbing?

No, they are not.

And is CD 1 on the "Close-up" box-set all binaural, because on the press-release it's stated Stereo?

Because this box set is released for the big market we rather call it Stereo, but for the Elvis die-hard fans it's of course all binaural takes.

And CD 4 the Live show, San Antonio, Tx. is that show also a Stereo release, I guess you got the 16 track Master reel?

Doesn't it mention on the press release, Andylon?

Nope...

Okay.. it is Stereo

When are you going to release the complete "Aloha Dress Rehearsal" 1973, fully remixed? And what about Midsouth 1974?

We are looking into it - especially the 1974 show.

When will the next round of 3 movie CD 's will be released on FTD?

If this projects is successful, we are planning to do this again at Christmas time this year.

My favourite ever Elvis recording is "Let yourself go" , from the comeback special..Except for the "bordello" version with the weird instrumental and the legendary performer version (which appears spliced), there is not a single full version available as far as I know.
Have any complete takes surfaced?

It was recorded in pieces, and they only way to release it is by splicing it together

Do we get also FTD releases with only 50's outtakes or live?

It was planned to do a complete FTD CD. with binaural, but now it's on the "Close -Up" box - set.
And for other 50's outtakes and live-shows, not at this time we need to find more.

When will the FTD Website be up and running?
The Elvis World is waiting and has been so for a long time.
What kind of new information can you tell us about the FTD Website?
And will there be a forum?

This is on hold, simply because we don't have the time to do it now. We are working on "Close-up" box -set and now we are working on the compilation for the "2nd to none" , album and than there will be a remix single release and another FTD "Southbend" and the Christmas / Gospel CD, really we are fully booked at BMG this year. I am sure you would rather want us to do what we do for RCA and FTD just now.

Yep, Ernst... Keep them comin'.... lol.
Can we expect on releasing a remixed version of the "Live On Stage in Memphis" , CD (1974) and in its entirety?

Again to answer your question at some stage - Yes

Does FTD plan on re-releasing just the soundtracks? All of the soundtracks? Especially "Viva Las Vegas" ?

It will depend on interest from the fans, but we hope (and believe) that we will be able to release all of them.

Any plans for releasing deleted NON-soundtrack albums? "The Legendary Performer" Volumes, "Memories of Elvis" , etc?

It will to some extent be dependant on what RCA wants to do with their catalogue. I don't think we would want to release either LEGENDARY or MEMORIES, but other titles may turn up.

Is there a timetable for this? How many "Special Releases” like this will be released each year?

No, We’ll have to see the reaction of the first three, but we are preparing more material for Christmas.

miscellaneous questions:

Will the ""Hound Dog" /" Don't be cruel" sessions ever be discovered?
We have no leads - they may very well have been destroyed in 1959.

Any plans for updating " Madison Square Garden" , " Live On Stage in Memphis" or the 1968 Special?
No.

Are there any dream projects that you want to do that you haven't been able to do for one reason or another?
Oh Ernst, did I ever tell you someone offered to me all the outtakes of " Hound Dog" in binaural , Ernst?
They wanted at that time $ 12.000 dollar for it.

Yes, I heard the tape it was also known to us, we found out it was all fake, you won't believe nowadays what they can do in the studio to make it sound real, it's incredible.
There was a guy who had a "Mystery Train" in stereo, it was fun to listen to, though .lol

And what about the other rumour that the complete "King Creole" exists in binaural or any other outtakes, Ernst?

Oh, that rumour is really still living his own life ha,
No, no, a couple of years ago I did a interview with a Canadian guy, and he asked me what would be
great release by us and I made a cynical answer that it would be great to release a complete binaural session "King Creole" .
And he misunderstood and told in his interview he said, that this were in our vaults.
So, this is a MISSUNDERSTANDING we have no binaural or any other outtakes from "King Creole" .

But I would love to do a 10 CD SUN- box, but I don't have enough recordings. (Lol)
Then we both order our copy, Ernst.
See what you do Ernst, now a new rumour will pop-up... a Ten CD Sun box...lol

There is one Ep.Gold reader who has a personal question Ernst
How can I be Ernst& Roger's assistant/protégée? I'd give my left arm if I had to.

I do think Ernst that is a heavy statement, if I had to answer this question I would have said: isn't that a shame I just need
a right arm, because I am missing my left.... lol

Well to give a serious answer : If he is an expert on some usable Elvis matter, we would certainly like to hear- or anybody else!

There has been rumours about a soon to be released bootleg of the concert from Lake Tahoe, May 13 1973.
It was announced a couple of years ago that this was soon to come. What happened?
And I also wonder if we will get the Wichita December 1976 concert?

'73 Tahoe concert will be one of the next FTD soundboards.
No date yet. And nothing planned for Wichita at this time.

Part Two coming soon exclusive on Ep.Gold.Com.

IT'S KING TIME ONCE AGAIN.

All-Elvis radio program "Predominately Presley" to return to the airwaves May 11, 2003

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS…

Predominately Presley, the acclaimed all-Elvis radio program, returns to Chicago airwaves and to worldwide listeners via the internet, exclusively on Chicago's UIC Radio, www.uicradio.ws. Broadcasts are to begin on Sunday, May 11, from 1pm-3pm CST.

The radio show, hosted by Bryan Gruszka, began life in 1991 as "The Elvis Hour", had aired locally in the Chicagoland area on WRDP Radio (640 AM) until 1997, when it found a new home on Chicago's Flames Radio (89.5 FM) and a whole new audience via a simulcast on the World Wide Web. From 1997 until 2001, the show continued to expand its audience with its mixture of rare Elvis cuts, including outtakes, rehearsals and live performances along with the latest Elvis releases, all combined with entertaining news stories, trivia, and special themed programming, eventually reaching listeners in over 40 states and 26 countries. "Predominately Presley" aired its last program on April 17, 2001, 10 years to the date of its very first broadcast, but now returns to bring the magic of the King to a new listenership.

"Predominately Presley" has been featured in articles in the Chicago Tribune, Southtown Economist, Southwest News-Herald, Near North News and the Oak Lawn Village View. In addition, the show has been featured in Elvis World, one of the most widely circulated Elvis magazines in the country, in articles and newsletters of the ElvisMania fan club of Macedonia and the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain's Berkshire Branch, and on "The Len Petrullis Show" on local Chicago cable TV and the award winning "Wild Chicago" television program.

UIC Radio, the new home of the "Predominately Presley" show, uses Nullsoft SHOUTcast streaming MP3 technology, enabling users with both dialup internet connections and faster cable, T1 and DSL connections to enjoy all formats of music regardless of where they are located in the world. Listeners simply need an internet connection and a compatible media player (such as iTunes for Apple users and WinAmp for PC users). For complete listening instructions, including links to download appropriate media players, simply log on to www.uicradio.ws and click on the "Listen" button. Setup only takes a few minutes.

One aspect of the "Predominately Presley" show that will be retained in its return to the airwaves is the Instant Request option. This feature allows listeners to instantly request Elvis songs or make comments while the program is on the air, and provides for a great rapport between the host and the listeners. Users with AOL Instant Messenger (AIM- available at www.aim.com), can simply send a message to uicradiostudio. For those without AIM, requests can be phoned in to 312-413-2191 or emailed directly to the show at predominatelypresley@yahoo.com.

Listeners interested in discussing the program, learning about upcoming theme shows, or listeners who'd like to leave feedback or suggestions for future programming can join the Predominately Presley Yahoo Group at groups.yahoo.com/group/ppresley, which provides a forum for discussing anything related to the show as well as being the source for the latest show information.

About the Host

Bryan Gruszka, host of the "Predominately Presley" program, is a lifelong Elvis fan, who had turned his passion for Elvis Presley into a format for others to enjoy by creating a radio program that focuses on music from all periods of Elvis' career and not just the select few songs heard on most radio stations. In addition, Gruszka strives to present Elvis and his music in ways that showcase the reasons why Elvis is known worldwide as the King of Rock and Roll. As Gruszka states, "Elvis was, first and foremost, a musician, and I believe that the best way for people to learn about the real Elvis, and not the stereotypical Elvis, is through his music. Just sit back, listen, and let the King speak for himself." Outside of Elvis, Gruszka is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Political Science, and his spare time is an avid classic video game collector and reader, and loves British comedy and science fiction.

THE COLONEL - THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF TOM PARKER AND ELVIS PRESLEY.

The publication date for " The Colonel " book by Alanna Nash is July 15th, 2003. Alanna Nash's THE COLONEL The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley attempts to solve one of the biggest riddles in the history of the music industry who was Colonel Tom Parker?

Little is known about Elvis' mentor, manager and manipulator. Nash, an Elvis expert--she was the first journalist to see Elvis' body after his death--and a personal friend of Colonel Tom Parker, goes deeper into the secrets surrounding the Colonel than any journalist before her. With over 300 new interviews, Nash traveled to Holland-where Parker fled after allegedly bludgeoning a young woman to death-to interview Parker's family. Nash examines Parker's status as an illegal alien, his desertion from the US army, his psychosis for which he was hospitalized, his decision to put Elvis in a long string of terrible movies designed to protect his own secret past, and his lack of paper trail--he had no FBI, INS or CIA files and no marriage license.

Nash proves that the only figure in American popular culture as fascinating as Elvis is the man who made Elvis-Colonel Tom Parker.

BLUE MOON OF KENTUCKY - REMEMBERING MY DAD AND ELVIS
Essay written by Roger Hall - The Tune Man.

It's hard to believe that this is the birthday of Elvis once again. He was born at 4:25 a.m. on January 8, 1935.

What is even harder to believe is a very special milestone in my own family history.

My dad, Russell, was born in Winchester, Kentucky one hundred years ago today.

So he shares the same birthday with Elvis. What a coincidence!... read more

BORN ON A RED STAR.

Shaun Nielsen and the Danish singer and musician Peter Viskinde (Who is the lead guitarist of the Danish band Big Fat Snake) has a new Cd out, entitled "Born On A Red Star"

Peter Viskinde was one of the acts at this years "Aloha From Randers" charity show in Randers, Denmark.
The concept for this album is to get back to the pure "live" studio sound from the past. And they did it!
The great Danish female singer Sanne Roslev (Who also were part of the "Aloha" show) is also on this album.

The album comes with a bonus Cd-Rom. This one is about the making of the album and how to create the pure sound.
Shaun Nielsen and Peter Viskinde’s duet on the title song "Born On A Red Star" is one of the best reasons to get your self a copy of this album!
Uffe Christensen from one of the biggest Danish newspapers reviewed the album this way:

It’s a great musical experience to listen to all the songs on Peter Viskinde and Shaun Nielsen’s new album "Born On A Red Star" This album contains original pure "old-fashioned" sound that nobody uses anymore. It’s very clear that this album is done in pure love and respect for the music!

You can order your copy from Elvis Unlimited for only 139.- Dkk.

Paul's Elvis Page
Elvis: Behind The Image Book Review.
http://members.rogers.com/paulselvispage/behindbookreview.html

Bud Glass Productions (Executive Producer of the DVD Behind The Image) have produced an excellent photo book full of great candid shots of Elvis, truly taking us behind the image. Photo books have been hit and miss lately in the Elvis world, but this one has exceeded my expectations. The Book is 119 pages, of which 109 pages have photos (400 give or take a few, the majority in colour) of Elvis ranging from 1960 (bottom of page 35) to 1976 (top of page 114). The journals of Sandi Miller are used to provide background and details about many of the photos. This is a very welcome part of the book, as Sandi's observations give great insight to the photos. The majority of the photos are dated, which is something I always like to see.

Some of my favourite photos are pages 31, 51, 56, 57, 60, 68, 69, 72, 73, 92, 93, 98-101, 110 and 114. Some photos we have seen in the past, but only one or two from a set. Here, we can see several photos from each set that have not been published before. Besides the photos of Sandi Miller, there are also photos from the collection of Russ Howe. Russ has a photo collection to die for, and I hope to see more of his photos in future books by Bud Glass Productions.

This hardcover photo book is published by Praytome Publishing and it belongs on every fans bookshelf!.

THE CONCERT AMSTERDAM.

Rogier van Luyken tried to organize some extra events for the concert in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam on June 8th. As this is the last show of the tour and (al)most certainly the last one ever, he felt something special needed to be done.

The plan was to do an afterparty where some 150 lucky fans could meet the bandmembers and enjoy some music, we hoped for JXL to come over etcetera, but until now this didn't materialize. BMG Holland is still working very hard to do something exclusively for this concert, hopefully this will work out.

“Currently, there are hundreds of active Elvis fan clubs and we know this will be a way for fans to find clubs in their own area. This exciting endeavor will also work nicely with the new Official Elvis Collectors Club which has grown to almost 6,000 members in less than a year,” says Burgess.

LISA MARIE STRIKES OUT.

After a huge publicity build-up with network interviews and magazine covers, Lisa Marie Presley has made only a small dent in her first week record sales. To Whom It May Concern will likely do about 125,000 copies and barely make the top five this week when her CDs are counted. The zillions of rabid fans of her dad, Elvis Presley, did not queue up to support her after all.
In most cases, a massive concert tour would be the next way to go for an under-performing artist. But Presley -- who has no experience performing live -- is unlikely to go that route.
