ELVIS LIVES ON DVD.

The "Elvis Lives" TV Special will be released on DVD on October 21, 2003. The original 45 minutes program will be extended to 100 minutes on the DVD version with the addition of unreleased sequences. Some of the extras will contain: longer interviews, the video of "A Little Less Conversation", a photo gallery and other features unknown at this time. More information when we have it.

Hi Ernst , you're back from New York.... 

I am back, but it doesn't feel like it... those jet legs......lol.

Well, you got some news for me about the following -up Album E 1 and the new Remix CD single?

Shoot Andylon ; 

First of all, is this really the new title for new new album : 2nd To None? Because first it was told they would name the new CD : Top Ten Hits.
When ever I hear this new title, Ernst it always makes me think 2nd to a nun..... you know a nun in a monastery.....lol

We decided, that this will be the title : 2nd TO NONE.

The reason why we decided NOT to use the Title : Top Ten Hits is because then we got stuck by only using the Single Hits that were in the Top Ten in the US and UK.
And we do feel there were some great songs that are Hits, but never made it / or were big Hits in the Top Ten.

Like for instance : "That's All Right Mamma'", and "Blue Suede Shoes, at the time there were no Top of the bills existing
Also memorable songs like : 'Viva Las Vegas", or the B-side : "Alway's on my mind", they never made the Top Ten.
Or for example the beautiful song written by Ben Weisman : "Riding The Rainbow", it was at the time such another style for Elvis to record.
And what about the "An American Trilogy" , these are all favorites amongst many fans.

So what does this mean, we will have songs like : "Viva Las Vegas" or "Always on my mind" , etcetera on this CD Album?

No, I was for a whole week in New York and we ran through all kinds of GREAT songs other than TopTen Hits alone... and at this moment we didn't get any further than 17 songs at this moment .
And still we are not certain which songs we will really use on the 2nd To None CD Album, Andylon.
Nothing has been decided yet.

What about the big rumour that the other version of Roustabout written by Otis Blackwell & Winfield Scott will this be on 2nd To None CD Album , Ernst?

I don't think so, this would be something for a new BMG Box-Set or a new FTD.- Special Edition.
But again, everything is possible we have NOT decided even ONE song that will be on this album yet, we are still working on it.

Now my dear friend David Bendeth ( we still have close contact , Ernst ) has left the building , so who will do this Album Production as a Remix 2nd To None?

Ray Bardani worked with David Bendeth on the E 1 Album last year and now Ray Bardani will do the job on this 2nd To None as the mix - Producer.

What about the announcement made on other Elvis web-sites : that the next Remix CD Single will be possible "Rubberneckin", Ernst?
I guess they know more than we...Andylon...lol

No, no, no again this is not true.
At this moment we have more songs in mind for the next Remix CD Single to release.
Although we do realize that songs like : " Let Your Self Go", "Rubberneckin" , "Polk Salad Annie" , "Guitar Man" , "Big Boss Man" , etcetera are favorites amongst ElvisFans.

And now the last question ; When will the FTD CD and the FTD Special Editions film CD's be released, Ernst?
Tomorrow it's out, but I guess because of Eastern many will have them next week Tuesday.

Great news Ernst, well I let you go now .... I know you are busy with checking and listening to Elvis songs to compile them for the 2nd To None CD project.

TONY BROWN WHO ACCOMPANIED ELVIS AS A PIANO PLAYER IN 1976-1977, IN LOS ANGELES INTENSIVE CARE.

Universal South Senior Partner and Record Producer Tony Brown was involved in a serious accident on Friday while in Los Angeles. 
As a result of a fall, Brown sustained a head injury and is under the care of UCLA Medical Center’s Neurological Department.
He is listed in critical but stable condition and his wife Anastasia, and children are by his side.
Because he is in the intensive care unit, no flowers or gifts can be sent and visitation is limited to immediate family at this time.

E 1 CHART UPDATE

In the Dutch album chart the CD "ELV1S 30 #1 Hits" dropped from #82 to # 89. In Germany the CD dropped out of the album chart last week, but there Lisa Marie took over the "Presley presence" on the album chart with her new album.
On the U.S. Billboard Country Album Chart Elvis remains solid at #11 for the 4th week in a row.

In its 43rd week on the Portuguese chart, the single 'A Little Less Conversation' dropped from #10 to #25.

And in the 28th week E 1 Album re- entered in the Billboard Top 100 at # 99 this week.

Actor Jim Carrey toured Graceland today. He and a group of friends arrived in Memphis on motorcyles yesterday, took in The Dempseys' show at Elvis Presley's Memphis restaurant and spent the night at Heartbreak Hotel. Carrey selected the Graceland Suite for his accommodations.

RELEASE DATE NEW GERRY RIJFF BOOK.

This Friday Elvis Unlimited will release the new Ger Rijff book "The Rock'n'Roll Years - My Wish Came True". This book covers the years 1954-56 with a portion of never before seen pictures and rare record sleeves, magazines etc. Trevor Cajiao has done a a text about those exciting years. The book is on 112 pages. All printed in full color on heavy glossy paper.

The first 500 copies of this book will contain a free interview CD containing some unreleased interview from the 1950's and 1970's.

It´s a honour to announce to you the fact that from now on I am a part of
the EPGOLD website team.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name
is Stefan Kock, am 23 years old and live in Holland. My fascination
with / for Elvis started almost 15 years ago, when I was about 10 years
old. As the years got by my biggest fascination grew towards the 70´s
Elvis. Why? Actually a couple of reasons: His voice, his charisma, his
humour etc, etc.

The last two years I have been writing concert reviews, some of them can
be read on this website already. Not so long ago my good friend Andylon
Lensen asked me if I would be interested to join her site as a part of the
EPGOLD team. Little time did I needed to decide to take this opportunity.

On this website my main focus will be the 70´s Elvis. What can you expect
from me? In depth concert information, concert reviews, bootleg reviews,
but also in depth information about his films, VCD reviews and a lot of
information about the 70´s suits worn by Elvis.

Again I would like to say it's a great honour to become a member of this
great website's team and hereby I would sincerely thank Andylon Lensen.

The Elvis Friendship Club invites you to the Elvis Presley Convention on Saturday April 5th 2003, from 11am to 5pm, at St-Gilbert Hall located at 5415 Jean-Talon East in Montreal, near the St-Michel metro.

Dealers and collectors from all over Canada will be on hand to buy, sell, and trade Elvis memorabilia of all kinds; lp’s, Cd’s, tapes, and everything from Elvis dolls to Elvis stamps.

Door prizes will be handed out every hour, and for trivia buffs, an Elvis trivia contest will challenge the Elvis fans on hand. Elvis fans are welcome to try their luck, become the Elvis expert of the day!

The CD "ELV1S 30 #1 Hits" dropped out of the top 100 of the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart to #101, the CD remeained at #11 on the Billboard Country Chart. In Canada the CD climbed 3 spots to #61 on the Album Chart. 

In the Netherlands the CD dropped from #56 to # 74 on the Album Top 100 and in its 26th week the CD fell from #81 to #86 in the German Album Charts.

It could be Elvis playing piano on this take,. It's only after listening closely to the take in binaural, that you hear the piano clearly in the same channel as Elvis' voice.

This take has been released in mono on "Today Tomorrow And Forever:" Box-set last year, and if you listen carefully you'll notice that they are both from the same source (Master) tapes and are of equal sound quality,

We only know X generation tapes that had been released on Bootleg "Stereo '57", Volume 1 & 2 in pretty bad sound.

Andylon, I just spoke with Gordon and he said that they credited him with the piano on the sessions where they redid those two songs, but, as he remembers, Elvis played piano on them sometimes because he didn't like to use the pro piano players because they played too much. NEW MUSICAL CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE FEATURING ELVIS SONGS HEADED FOR BROADWAY.

"We did a reading for both the Elvis Presley estate and invited industry guests," said producer Jon Pollard about a new musical in development with eyes towards Broadway.

Can't Help Falling in Love features an an original book, written by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) and the music made famous by the legendary Elvis Presley. The work was commissioned by the Presley camp. 

"What he did was wrote an original musical that is based on a A Midsummer Night's Dream and Twelfth Night," revealed Pollard about the DiPietro stagework. "Essentially, it is a farce. A jukebox arrives in a sort of dusty, depressed Anywhere, U.S.A. town of 1965 and casts a spell over the town. Everybody starts falling in love with everybody else and the wrong people. You have all the plot twists of both of those Shakespearean comedies but with glorious and rocking Elvis music." 

Christopher Ashley (The Rocky Horror Show) will direct as he did for a reading earlier this week in New York City. The cast of the reading included Jarrod Emick, Ron Orbach, Ana Gasteyer, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Kevin Cahoon, Leah Hocking, Sandy Binion, Ashton Holmes, Nikki M. James and Billy Porter. 

Stephen Oremus, whose credits include arranging and orchestrating tick, tick... BOOM!, Avenue Q, and the upcoming Broadway production of Wicked, also lends his talents to Can't Help Falling in Love. 

The work may draw comparisons to such current Broadway musicals as Movin' Out which features the music of Billy Joel and Mamma Mia! which features ABBA songs. However, while Can't Help Falling in Love does feature songs made famous by the singer, most of the King's tunes — as fans will note — were written by other songwriters including Jerry Lieber with Mike Stoller (Smokey Joe's Cafe), Otis Blackwell and Ray Charles among others. Also, many of his songs were already written to serve a storyline for his numerous movies. 

The title song, which serves as the first act finale, embodies the central plot of the piece. While the musical may attract some of those avid Elvis fans, Pollard offers "There's nothing in the show that mentions Elvis, it has absolutely nothing to do with Elvis. But, it takes Elvis' music to a different dimension and to a different audience."

UK TV SERIES REBORN IN THE USA VISITS GRACELAND.

The U.K.'s ITV1 reality series Reborn in the U.S.A. was in town this week to shoot for a Memphis-based episode. In the series, music stars from the past get a shot at renewed stardom. The viewing audience votes, performers are eliminated, and when the series ends, the one remaining performer is the winner. Episodes are shot in various cities around the U.S.A., reflecting the performers' musical ties to the particular city. The influence of Memphis music and Elvis prompted the shoot in Memphis. Part of the cast's visit to Graceland and Elvis Presley's Memphis restaurant were shot for the Memphis episode. We don't have airdate information at this time. Elvis fans in the U.K. will need to consult their local listings and the ITV1 web site.

BROADWAY LOOKS FIT FOR THE KING AS LOVE READING BEGINS.

NEW YORK (Variety) - Elvis Presley's first book musical moves ever closer to Broadway. 

Theater biz insiders attended a first reading of "Can't Help Falling in Love" Monday night at the Westside Theatre, with another performance to follow the next day. 

Producer Jonathan Pollard described it as "the first step in the development process." 

Pollard announced the Presley project in 2000, and a preliminary draft of the book by Joe DiPietro was presented to Presley's estate in spring 2001. In the style of the Abba song-filled "Mamma Mia!," "Can't Help Falling in Love" features more than 20 Presley favorites, including "Heartbreak Hotel," "Love Me Tender" and "Blue Suede Shoes." 

The principal cast at the "Love" readings includes Sandy Binion, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Kevin Cahoon, Jarrod Emick, Ana Gasteyer, Leah Hocking, Ashton Holmes, Nikki M. James, Ron Orbach and Billy Porter. Christopher Ashley directs. 

DiPietro is represented Off Broadway with the long-running "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change." 

As for Presley, his songs comprised a Broadway revue called "Rock 'n' Roll: The First 5,000 Years." It opened in fall 1982 and was performed for one week before closing.

One of gospel music's pioneer groups, the Blackwoods, appears in concert at 1:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. today at the Country Dinner Playhouse, 6875 S. Clinton St., Englewood. The Blackwoods perform a mix of traditional and inspirational songs, including "I Believe," "The Sweetest Song I Know," "He Touched Me," "How Great Thou Art," "Peace in the Valley," "Amazing Grace" and "His Hand in Mine." The shows also feature a special tribute to Elvis Presley. Three brothers and the son of one, R.W. Blackwood, formed the group in 1934. The group now includes R.W.'s sons, R.W. Jr. and Ron. Over the years, the Blackwoods have received 27 Dove Awards, gospel music's top prize.

FLOYD CRAMER EARNS POSTHUMOUS HONOR.

Pianist Floyd Cramer, a self-taught player who became one of the key session players during the “Nashville Sound” era, was elected posthumously to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Cramer joins a select group of topflight instrumentalists whose contributions are so monumental that they merit recognition even if they’re not ostensibly rock musicians.

Cramer’s trademark was the “slip note,” a technique in which he struck two notes simultaneously, doing it so smoothly that it seemed each one led into another. Cramer excelled on ballads, providing a seamless, floating background and embellishing the arrangement without ever dominating or overpowering it. Cramer’s versatility also made him a standout, as he could play country, rock, pop, or even jazz with ease. His peak commercial period came during the late ‘50s and early ‘60s when his piano lines were heard on songs by Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline and the Everly Brothers among others.

Cramer began pursuing a professional career after high school, and garnered some early fame by being the pianist on the heralded Louisiana Hayride radio show in Shreveport, La. During this period, Cramer backed such artists as Hank Williams, Sr., Webb Pierce and Lefty Frizzell. He moved to Nashville in 1955, where his reputation soared following his appearance on Presley’s 1956 Nashville sessions. The line-up also included guitarist Scotty Moore, bassist Bill Black, drummer D.J. Fontana, and lap-steel guitarist Jimmy Day.

However, Cramer wasn’t merely a great session star. He also enjoyed solo success, recording 50 instrumental albums and winning a Grammy in 1979 for Best Country Instrumental with the single “My Blue Eyes.” His most famous song is “Last Date,” a 1960 single that reached the number two spot on the pop charts. He had two other top 10 hits the next year, “On The Rebound” and “San Antonio Rose.” 

Cramer died of cancer in Nashville in 1998. Other sidemen inducted included legendary Motown drummer Benny Benjamin and saxophonist Steve Douglas.

UNRELEASED FOOTAGE SHOWN ON NORWEGIAN CONVENTION.

Kenneth Dokkeberg from Norway reports: "Yesterday I was at a Elvismeeting in Oslo and they showed some unreleased stuff from 'On Tour' that was amazing! Elvis was singing 'Burning Love' in the Blue outfit that he's wearing when he sings 'I John' in the original movie. There was also a lot of backstage footage, and Elvis' meeting with a kid that had cancer. Unbelievable. I really hope this will be released in the near future!".

Here's the story from Kenneth

I saw about 20 - 30 minutes of footage. They claimed to have 50 hours which I'm not sure about.
I saw the following:

-1 song from Hampton Roads (Teddy Bear )
-Elvis is rehearsing with his entire band in the same suit he uses during "I John", he sings "Burning Love" but his mike is broken so it is a lot of distortion. Very cool version as he sings it a tiny bit different.
-Elvis backstage with the suit he does Burning Love in ( San Antoine..? ) where he throws a glas of water in Lamar's face and the Mafia cracks up.
-Elvis in one of his dressing rooms in private clothes (August '72). He uses a shirt which can be seen inside the "Elvis Now" album. He ties a tie that's HUGE and laughing a bit, then George Parkhill comes in and hands him 2 gold records ( 1 from Madison Square Garden! ) and Elvis says "This one was released fast right?" and he has trouble handling both of them. 
- Elvis meets a young boy with cancer inside his tourbus, wearing a white jumpsuit. He signs autographs (a photo of this can be seen inside the Czech talking cd). Really cool stuff.

Then they decided to turn off the tape......

When I play the record : "Sitting On Top Of The World" , by Jerry Reed one of my favorite composers / artists, I beginning to understand that Bud Glass Productions / Praytome Publishing ( known as "The Behind The Image" Team. ) are rising in the Elvis world.

First we had the succesful Behind The Image DVD, with UNSEEN 30 minutes Elvis footage. ( only able to confirm by the die-hard Elvis fans, film - footage specialists ).

ALL SHOOK UP HOW ROCK 'N ROLL CHANGED.

Glenn Altschuler, autor of various books on the history of America and its populair culture will show with this book how Rock And Roll changed America. Besides the great Elvis picture on the cover we have no information yet on the amount of "Elvis" in this book. The will have 240 pages and will be published by "Oxford University Press" and is set for release in August 2003.

E 1 CHART UPDATE.

On the Dutch Album Chart the CD "ELV1S 30 #1 Hits" dropped from #47 to #56. On the Billboard Album Top 200 the album moved up one spot to #84 while the album remained steady at #11 on the Billboard Country Chart.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY MAKES SINGING DEBUT.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Elvis Presley daughter quietly made her first singing appearance at an industry trade show Tuesday. 

Lisa Marie Presley debut, in promotion of her first album's impending release, was before 1,000 enthusiastic record label executives and music sellers at the National Association of Recording Merchandisers' annual convention. 

But it was difficult for the audience to hear Presley's voice above her backing band. 

"She's a little shy, but she's new. Give her six months, and she's going to get much more comfortable," said Alan Josef Kaplan, with the music production company Music Universe. 

Kaplan added that Presley has "star presence," and "you can see Priscilla and Elvis both in her." 

Although her quiet voice may have been a technical problem, convention attendees surmised that Presley's label, Capitol, is hiding her behind the music as she starts her career. It was also difficult to hear her voice in the video for the single "Lights Out," which was shown at the convention. 

Presley was visibly nervous during her first song, saying, "This is our first real applause ever." 

By the second song, she was relaxed, smiling and joking around with band members. During her third song, she showed some attitude and stage presence. 

Presley, dressed semi-casually in black slacks, black shirt and orange T-shirt, was kept away from attendees and the media. She was ushered out immediately after her three-song set. 

Although comparisons to her father will likely be made, Presley's voice is completely unique, a hint of country mixed in with rock. Some attendees couldn't figure out Presley's genre of music, but agreed that it could fit into both rock and pop categories. 

Even Capitol president Andy Slater said when he first heard about Presley singing, he was skeptical. 

"Is it another celebrity trying to be a rock star?" he said at the time. 

However, Slater said she is "tough and passionate about her music" and "radiates that thing that says, 'she's a star.'" 

Said Jim Donio, executive vice president of NARM: "She is a celebrity, but now they see that she is a singer and a songwriter. She was very well received." 

Presley's album, "To Whom It May Concern," will be released April 8.
