FIGHTING OVER WARHOL'S ELVIS.

An Andy Warhol painting of Elvis Presley is the focus of a dispute involving theft charges. A Swedish heiress says her art dealer and newsprint magnate Peter Brant of Greenwich stole the $12 million 1962 silk screen "Red Elvis" from her. The painting, which stands nearly 6 feet tall and features 36 identical images of Elvis Presley's head, is in the collection of Brant, a top Warhol collector, at this moment.

| THE GUNS OF ELVIS: THE KINGS PERSONAL ITEMS AT AUCTION - BURTON - OHIO APRIL 5th, 2003. |
|

|
The Gunrunner Auction Series, Ltd. will be auctioning four
(4) very important Elvis Presley items at our April 5 firearms auction
(starting at 11 AM). As many of you know, one of Elvis' greatest
passions was gun collecting. Until now very few of The King's guns have
been released from Graceland, but April 5 is your chance to own the
ultimate Elvis collector piece.
|
| Here are some details on Elvis' guns and other collectibles: |
|

|
Elvis Presley's Personal Rifle, Remington 740
Elvis Presley owned this Remington Model 740, .280 cal. semi-auto rifle with scope (mfg. 1959) and personalized it with his initials "EP" in gold and "Thunderbolt mark" on the receiver as well as adding "TCB" ("Taking Care of Business") on both sides of the stock in gold. The rifle has been shot and used, but is in excellent condition. Included are a letter of documentation and a cherry/glass presentation case. |
|

|
Elvis Presley's Signed Application for gun purchase
On Dec. 2, 1970 Elvis visited a Palm Springs, CA. gun shop to purchase an Astra handgun and filled out this extensive Federal Firearms Form 4473 and signed it. At the time he says he was 6'1" and 160 lbs. and gives a Beverly Hills address. Interesting notes on this fascinating look at Elvis: He misspells his last name while printing and writes "NO" when asked if he is addicted to stimulants or narcotics. His signature is big and bold on this outstanding document - a rare glimpse into Elvis' vitals seven years before he left us. Authenticity letter included.
|
|

|
Elvis Presley's Personal Browning Shotgun
Elvis Presley bought this Browning Auto-5 20 ga. shotgun in 1967 at the Southland Mall in Memphis at Sears. He owned and shot it and then gave it to his cousin/bodyguard/concert promoter Billy Smith who lived at Graceland. The little gun has been shot and used, but is in excellent condition. Included is a custom cherry/glass presentation case. Letter of documentation included.
|
|

|
Elvis Presley Colt .45 auto Commemorative
Elvis frequently carried a pair of highly decorated .45 autos on his person (the originals can be seen at the Graceland Museum), so Colt Firearms and Elvis Presley Enterprises (Graceland) commissioned this highly gold engraved Colt .45 auto in only 300 editions. All over the gun are scenes from Elvis' life - this beautiful piece is as new, unfired, with all authenticating paperwork, history, wood presentation case. A great tribute to The King's favorite handgun.

JUKEBOX JURY'S TOP TRACK.

A 40-year-old track whose indecipherable lyrics were subject to an FBI investigation has pipped Elvis to top a poll as the ultimate jukebox record.
Louie Louie by The Kingsmen made it to just 26 in the UK charts but became one of the most famous garage rock hits.
It tops a list of the 100 singles, which experts from Mojo magazine say all music fans should own.
Writers such as Nick Hornby and St Etienne star Bob Stanley were asked to come up with the singles which would grace a fantasy jukebox.
They generally chose tracks which also had outstanding b-sides to give listeners a greater choice when they dropped their coin into a Wurlitzer.
The Kingsmen were a group of Oregon teenagers who needed a tape in order to get a gig on a cruise ship.
They laid down a cover of Louie Louie - later to become a rock standard - and one of their own songs at a cost of L24.
Their raw recording led to rejection by the liner company but a Seattle record label took a chance on the track.
FBI staff were set to work listening to the song at various speeds to check whether the mumbled words were really obscene.
Elvis Presley classic 1961 hit (Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame was runner-up in the Mojo Ultimate Jukebox.
While Sixties' songs dominate the upper reaches, the Sex Pistols' 1977 release Holidays In The Sun was the most recent release in the top ten.
Top ten:
1. Louie Louie - The Kingsmen (1963).
2. (Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame - Elvis Presley (1961).
3. Holidays In The Sun - Sex Pistols (1977).
4. Jumpin' Jack Flash - The Rolling Stones (1968).
5. I Don't Blame You At All - Smokey Robinson And The Miracles (1971).
6. Israelites - Desmond Dekker And The Aces (1969).
7. Rumble - Link Wray And His Ray Men (1958)
8. 96 Tears - ? & The Mysterians (1966).
9. Green Onions - Booker T And The MGs (1962).
10. Paperback Writer -The Beatles (1966).

THE COLONEL.

The True Story Of Colonel Tom Parker And Elvis Presley, by Alanna Nash (Previous book: Elvis Aaron Presley: Revelations from the Memphis Mafia, 1995) : * 416 pages * 6 1/8 inch x 9 ¼ inch * 16 pages of black and white photographs.
The startling, never before disclosed story of Colonel Tom Parker - conman, illegal immigrant and wanted murderer – who more than anyone was responsible for Elvis’s success, his legend, his sad decline, and his death.
Perhaps the only figure in American popular culture as fascinating as Elvis Presley is show biz legend Colonel Tom Parker. And while many books have been written about the King, this is the first ever in-depthbiography of Parkler to dig so exhaustively into this man’s murky past. Containing ninety-percent new material, The Colonel was written by a journalist who knew him personally. Alanna Nash’s research isn’t just exclusive, it’s explosive, and it turns the Elvis saga on its ear.
At age twenty, Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk most likely bludgeoned a woman to death in his native Holland. The next day he fled to America, entered the country illegally, and joined the U.S. Army as Tom Parker. He deserted his unit, suffered a nervous breakdown and was discharged for reasons of : psychosis, psychogenic depression and emotional instability!
Out of these ashes rose the strangest saga in music industry. Every move Paerker made in his handling of Elvis Presley – from bad movies, to the drug use, to Presley’s own army career – was designed to protect the Colonel’s terrible secrets. Parker was a certified psychopath and Elvis Presley was only one of his unwitting victims. The Colonel brings this story to light in full detail.

ELVIS # 12 IN THE ROLLING STONE LIST.
"I don't care too much for money," Paul McCartney once sang, but that hasn't kept him from leading Rolling Stone magazine's list of the pop world's richest artists.
The former Beatle, who by some tallies was rock's first billionaire, raked in $72 million in 2002 largely from his first tour in nine years, according to the U.S. magazine's second annual "Rock's 50 Richest" list, to be published on March 14.
Being dead does not keep artists off the list. Elvis Presley, whose songs were licensed for the Disney film "Lilo & Stitch," ranked No. 12. RCA Records also issued a remix single and compilation of his No. 1 hits which both went to #1 worldwide.

BMG ELVIS CATALOGUE 2003.
There have been two significant announcements from BMG in recent weeks. Firstly, the great news that the company is working on a follow-up release to last year’s mega album, Elvis 30 #1 Hits, and secondly, the much anticipated release of the new ’50 title’ Elvis catalog. On E.I.N. the new catalogue was listed.
Essentially, all BMG offices worldwide will stock the same 50 titles with only ‘exceptional’ other releases being sanctioned by BMG USA for issue in particular countries. And when a new Elvis title is released one of the existing 50 will be deleted to keep the catalog maximum at 50.
It appears that the long-standing BMG marketing strategy of producing smaller profits across a large number of releases rather than larger profits from a smaller number of 'strategically' released and promoted releases is going to continue. The policy is a major reason why Elvis has yet to register any Diamond award certifications (10 million units) from the RIAA in the US.

ELVIS KARATE SUIT AUCTIONED.

An Elvis karate suit is being auctioned, if you have the spare estimated US $12,000.00 - US $18,000.00 you might have a chance. Kang Rhee special ordered several karate gis for Elvis Presley; some for routine practice, other more elaborate uniforms for demonstrations and exhibitions. Presley kept uniformas at all three locations of Kang Rhee's school and at Graceland; Rhee also kept some at his home. When Rhee traveled with Elvis in the early 1970s, he was assigned to carry Elvis's uniforms so that the King could exercise at his convenience. This uniform is the rarer "demonstration" gi.
The set contains three items:
1. White sailcloth cotton jacket with red satin trim to lapel and hem, with labels reading "Tae Guck" and "Size 5 made in Korea," with "TCB Faith Spirit Discipline" patch over left breast, crown/fist patch on left wrist, and "Kang Rhee" patch to back, signed in English and Korean by Kang Rhee beneath "TCB" patch, very light soiling, otherwise fine.
2. White cotton sailcloth pants with drawstring waist, size 5, with labels reading "Tiger Claw" and "Made in Taiwan R.O.C.," with flared legs secured with three braided buttons in red, white, and black, flare vent and cuffs trimmed in black and red piping, minor soiling, including what appears to be body makeup residue to interior pants legs.
3. Red satin obi (measurements), with black cotton ends, with embroidered "Elvis Presley' to one end and "Tiger" with Korean and Chinese Characters to the other, in very fine condition.

ELVIS INC.
Next door to Graceland, a company of 500 guards the multimillion-dollar Kingdom
By Mark Feeney, Globe Staff, 3/12/2003
EMPHIS -- Driving along Elvis Presley Boulevard, the first thing you notice isn't Graceland but the two jets across the street from it: the Lisa Marie and the Hound Dog II. Yes, it's rather strange to be heading down a four-lane highway and see two planes by the side of the road (one of them a 96-seat commercial jetliner, the other a business plane). But if the career of Elvis Presley teaches any one thing, it's to expect the unexpected. Certainly, a nondescript brick building with a mansard roof next to Graceland seems insignificant. Elvis has left the building? The King wouldn't have entered this one in the first place.
Yet this building is more important for Elvis today than Graceland itself. It houses the headquarters of Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. The business of EPE and its nearly 500 employees, says president and CEO Jack Soden, is to ''protect the integrity of the legacy.''
Do you want to use Elvis's image for commercial purposes? License his name? Play music he bought the publishing rights to? This is where the requests get approved. More important, this is where the royalty payments get sent.
''In every respect, they do an excellent job, all the way from the director of the organization down to the gentlemen who run the tour [at Graceland],'' says Roger Richman, a Los Angeles attorney who heads an agency that repre-
sents the estates of deceased celebrities. ''I always used to joke [EPE's] mission statement was `Don't screw it up,' '' Soden says. ''Because it's got a life of its own, and the only thing dramatic we could do would be to mess it up.''
EPE hasn't messed it up. Forbes magazine estimates the company earned $37 million in fiscal year 2002. (No exact figure is available: EPE, a privately held corporation owned by Elvis's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, doesn't make its records public.) According to Forbes, Elvis earned more than any other dead celebrity during that time; by contrast, the estate of ''Peanuts'' cartoonist Charles Schulz, the runner-up, took in $28 million.
FY 2003 should be even better.
Aug. 16 was the 25th anniversary of Elvis's death, and some 75,000 fans descended on Memphis to observe the occasion. Six Elvis songs appeared on the soundtrack of the hit Disney animated feature ''Lilo & Stitch.'' A remixed version of Elvis's 1968 recording ''A Little Less Conversation'' became a worldwide No. 1 hit. (Tellingly, the remix originated with a Nike ad, an example of Elvis's continuing appeal to marketers.) An even bigger success was ''30 No. 1 Hits,'' a compilation album that shipped some 9 million units worldwide and hit No. 1 in 26 countries.
Such successes might be attributed to the anniversary. But EPE doesn't lack for perennial revenue sources.
Graceland, which attracts some 600,000 visitors annually, is reputed to be second only to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. as the most-visited residence in the United States. There are licensing deals with around 100 companies, including Russell Stover chocolates, the Franklin Mint, American Greetings Corp., Bradford Plates, and Wurlitzer Jukebox.
The company has a Los Angeles-based music-publishing division, and in recent years EPE has opened a pair of properties in Memphis: Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel (free in-room Elvis movies included) is across from Graceland; Elvis Presley's Memphis, a restaurant and nightclub, is located in the Beale Street entertainment district downtown.
The most surprising thing, perhaps, isn't that EPE has so many ventures, but so few.
''Every day brings new proposals,'' Soden says. Especially popular have been high-tech propositions: computer-enhanced imagery and holography involving Elvis. But what remains the most memorable proposal to come EPE's way -- submitted twice, in fact, by two different sources -- is a cemetery for Elvis fans.
''The front gates would look like Graceland,'' Soden recalls. ''All the roads would be named after songs. There'd be speakers in the trees playing Elvis music 24 hours a day. You just shake your head.''
It's not hard to imagine a different response to such a proposal 30 years ago. Back then, Elvis was seen as a cash cow to be milked ceaselessly -- and carelessly. The prime milker was his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. (It's a mark of how legendary Elvis is that even his manager became a legend.) Parker's reputation for shrewdness, self-promotion, and ham-fisted negotiating remains unmatched. No one ever associated him with finesse or aesthetic considerations, though.
''Elvis was put forward in a certain way that pretty quickly didn't make sense for an artist of his stature,'' says Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis. Perhaps the nadir of Elvis marketing was ''Having Fun With Elvis on Stage,'' a 1974 LP that, as the critic Greil Marcus memorably described it, ''consisted of the King saying `Well . . . welllll . . . wellllllll' for thirty-seven minutes.''
EPE dates from the '60s, but the licensing of Elvis's image and name then was largely handled by Parker's Boxcar Enterprises. EPE was resuscitated in the early '80s, just in time for the opening of Graceland to the public, in 1982. Elaine Dundy, author of ''Elvis and Gladys,'' a study of Elvis's relationship with his mother, recalls researching her book at that time.
Memphis abounded with ''stores selling awful things like white plastic Elvis swizzle sticks,'' she says. ''There was a freewheeling quality I miss [now], but they needed something like EPE to clean things up.''
Doing right by Elvis is a way of doing well, Soden notes. ''I suppose there's a devoted core who would visit Graceland even if it were done badly,'' he says. ''But even the most devoted fans would come less often if it were badly done, poorly organized.''
Soden, 56, was a stockbroker in his native Kansas City, Mo., when his business partner introduced him to Priscilla Presley. Priscilla, who'd been married to Elvis, oversaw the estate on behalf of their daughter, Lisa Marie, then still a minor. Soden recalls being more impressed by Priscilla's beauty than by the identity of her ex-husband. ''I was a Beatles fan,'' he says.
When she later approached Soden about going to work for EPE, he confessed his previous lack of interest in Elvis. ''That's good,'' he recalls Priscilla saying, ''because this job has to be done by somebody who's objective.''
Soden has had ample opportunity to make up for lost time. ''Listen, I've been doing this now, what, 21 years,'' he says. ''I've never had two days the same. I've never had a boring day. It's always changing.''
EPE has several projects it hopes to undertake, including a museum across the boulevard from Graceland and one or more traveling exhibits of Elvis memorabilia, but the soft economy keeps the plans on the drawing board. The impulsiveness that led Elvis to give away Cadillacs on the spur of the moment is not reflected in the EPE corporate culture.
Yet economic prudence may be the strongest argument for undertaking such ventures. Soden is quick to note that 53 percent of Graceland visitors are under age 35, but he's well aware that demographics are working against Elvis: The King's diehard fans are getting older.
''As time goes by it'll be more important through exhibitions to put the whole story in context,'' he says. ''When we opened Graceland in 1982, Elvis had been gone for five years. We had a huge visitorship base that knew the context; they'd lived it, they'd experienced it.''
Not that Soden thinks the King's reign is likely to end any time soon. He finds reassurance in the history of another Southern icon that conquered the world.
''It's like Coca-Cola,'' Soden says. ''There's this core thing that never changes -- the product is a formula that's 100 years old -- and on the other hand the whole competitive world they live in changes continually. We're kind of like that.''

DIVA LAS VEGAS.
Celine Dion got a new theater and millions of dollars to perform in Vegas. Now, if someone could just figure out what her show is about
By JOSH TYRANGIEL/LAS VEGAS Sunday, Mar. 09, 2003
Celine Dion was first offered her own Las Vegas show by none other than Colonel Tom Parker. In 1987 Dion's husband and manager Rene Angelil was in Las Vegas to see a Wayne Newton tribute to the Colonel's client, Elvis Presley. "For $5 you could visit the suite at the Hilton where Elvis lived," says Angelil. "So I go, and the Colonel's there selling souvenirs. One of my friends points to me and says, 'Colonel, this guy manages a terrific girl singer.' The Colonel says, 'Who is she?' I say, 'She sings in French, but she's a Barbra Streisand type.' The Colonel gets very serious. He says, 'Let me give you some advice: Never compare your artist to another artist.'''
Fast-forward to 1994. Dion, now singing in English, had covered Elvis' Can't Help Falling in Love for a Disney Channel special. Soon after, says Angelil, the Colonel called: "He says, 'I've heard that song so many times since Elvis died, and I never heard it like that. I'm a consultant for the Hilton, and she's never played Las Vegas. I want her at the Hilton.'" Angelil told the Colonel that Dion's American career was just taking off and that she wasn't ready for Vegas. "He said, 'I respect that, but this girl could be huge ? like Barbra Streisand!' I swear to you," says Angelil, laughing. "I said, 'Colonel, she'll never be Barbra Streisand. She can only be Celine.'"

ELVIS THE CONCERT IN AMSTERDAM..
It looks like the extra concert in Amsterdam is getting more special then usual and in more ways then one. For the very first time (and the last as it appears) this concert will be a 'standing' concert. There only will be seats in the back of the hall (just as in Ahoy) so you can rock 'n' roll for two hours and dance till you drop. Rumour is there will be something special done after the show.

PRESLEY'S SON CONVICTED OF MURDER
March 3, 2003 - TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - The son of slain Lee County Sheriff Harold Ray Presley was found guilty of depraved heart murder Saturday night, a charge that carries a mandatory life sentence.
Circuit Court Judge Thomas Gardner asked Patrick Presley if he wished to make any comment before a sentence was imposed. "No sir, other than that I'm sorry to the family," Presley said.
After the six-day trial, it took jurors just 2 hours and 15 minutes to deliver the guilty verdict.
Presley, 30, was charged with the death of Melissa White, 37, of Mooreville. Presley's vehicle collided with Moore's on U.S. 78 in June.
Testimony showed Presley had been driving down the wrong side of U.S. 78 East for nearly five miles before colliding with White. Blood tests showed Presley had methamphetamine in his system.
Harold Ray Presley was killed during a shootout with a kidnapping suspect in July 2001.
Dist. Atty. John Young worked with Harold Ray Presley while Presley was with the sheriff's office. He said prosecuting the late sheriff's son was "unfortunate."

UPDATE HIDDEN WORKS OF THE KING.
Here is an update on the status of "The Hidden Works Of The King" electronic book for Elvis CD collectors. Revision 2 is on-target for a March 2003 release, and will contain 542 compact disc entries. The concert date section of the book not only lists 1843 concert dates (including show details, such as showtime, costume worn, attendance, etc), but also serves as a concert audiotape reference guide. The 542 CD entries also create a searchable list of 12,044 song entries - perfect for piecing together studio take variations spread across multiple CD titles, or locating each time a song was performed live. This revision also MANAGES your collection - you can flag any entry to indicate you own it, and enter extra information about YOUR copy too!
My web site (http://www.sdaughtry.com) now has the Windows help file available online for immediate download. This help file provides a context-sensitive user manual at your fingertips while using the book. If printed, it would require almost 40 pages and 36MB of disc space! The file download is 6MB in size, and does require Windows to run. Screen captures of every screen are there, along with detailed discussion on how to get the most out of the book. I recommend that ANYONE interested in my book should download the file and see how good this book really is! A direct download link is: http://www.sdaughtry.com/downloads/BOOK.HLP
Everyone that has contacted me via email, as well as registered users of previous versions of the book, will automatically be emailed when the book has been burnt to CDR. So far the response has been outstanding, and I believe this is definately the BEST revision yet. Happy collecting!

FIRE DOWN BELOW FESTIVAL AT EPM.
Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. Presents
The Fire Down Below Music Festival
Elvis Presley’s Memphis on Beale Street hosts seven featured young bands and presents each with The Gladys Award
Seven young bands are being spotlighted on March 25th - March 29th at Elvis Presley’s Memphis at 126 Beale Street in Memphis at the first Fire Down Below Music Festival. Each band will also be a recipient of The Gladys Award.
The Festival takes its name from the last song Elvis worked on in his final recording session, which was at Graceland in 1976, the year before his death. His vocals on this Jerry Scheff composition were never completed.
The Gladys Award, appropriately named for Elvis’ mother, acknowledges and recognizes each bands’ participation in the festival as well as their early achievement as a cutting-edge, live music presence in Memphis, the “mother” of all music towns.
“Since Elvis Presley’s Memphis first opened its doors, we’ve wanted to put this great venue’s acoustics and ambience to work showcasing new music talent in our city." said Jennifer Burgess, director of Marketing for EPE, Inc., "This festival is our latest expression of that goal.”
The bands, which are listed below, will perform beginning at 10:00 p.m. during the five-night festival. More information will be available on the festival web site.

FTD asked input for future releases. they mailed a "Thank You" to all the people who have spent time sending forward ideas. Unfortunately a lot of these wishes do not match with the tapes FTD has. FTD has chosen the October 1,1974 South Bend show, and added 3 bonus tracks from the same tour.

I think the idea for relasing them in this great package and outtakes makes it interesting to buy this as a collector.
But what would have been more spectacular if " Girl Happy" would be released for the 1st ever on the right speed.
A shame though.

Isn’t it about time somebody make a long interview with Ernst on the coming FTD movie releases. Many questions remained unsanswered and it’s frustrating. Can Andylon do this or Henrik Knudsen?

THE LIFE OF JAMES MARCUS SMITH ALSO KNOWN AS P.J .PROBY.

The life of James Marcus Smith began on November 6th. 1938 at Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas.
As a young boy, Jim, like many others was influenced by black negro musicians and their music. In spite of the racism that ruled heavily in the Southern States, he listened to all the Baptist Gospel singers around his area on Sundays and sang along with them. In those days nearly everybody in the South used to sing in Church. As a three year old his Uncle Dan took him to a recording booth at the nearby fairground and recorded him singing his first ever recorded song called "Roll Out The Barrels".
Jim met and worked with Tommy Sands and Elvis Presley.... read

Introduction:
I'm pleased to be a columnist for the best Elvis web site I've seen anywhere - Ep.Gold. Andylon deserves much credit for telling it like it was and still is with Elvis.
My special interest in Elvis is what I call his "Golden Decade" between 1954 and 1964. I consider myself fortunate to have grown up with Elvis during that time and consider that to be his greatest period. I was even inspired to write one of my early songs, "Dream World," thanks to one of the great Elvis recordings, "It's Now or Never." Later on, I received advanced degrees in music. Because of my work in locating and preserving old songs, I'm known as "The Tune Man." I'm also a lecturer, teacher, radio producer, and folk singer. During the 1970s I worked for the Cleveland disc jockey who introduced Elvis on national TV. His name is Bill Randle. Since I'm a songwriter, I'm more interested in the music of Elvis rather than the media mania that still surrounds him. So, I'll be writing about Elvis in the '50s -- including his early films, his gospel records and the recordings that made him so popular.
First essay on Elvis for the Ep.Gold readers will be published soon.
Books:
Songs of Survival: Mini-Memoir of a Mad Musician -
mostly about my music career, with sections devoted to Elvis and Bill Randle, as well as to the trials and sorrows of a struggling songwriter. The book is now out-of-print but there is a CD-R available with songs, radio shows and interviews.
A new book is now being written about great American music recordings of the past, including some by Elvis.

JACK LORD'S SPECIAL MEMORY OF ELVIS.
Elvis Presley had the ability to touch others’ lives as few human beings ever could. Just as people were magnetically drawn to him, so too, he had an almost fan-like devotion to those he admired. Among that group was Hawaii 5-0’s Jack Lord and his wife, Marie. Theirs was a relatively brief but extremely intense friendship so illustrative of the rapid magnet-like attraction Elvis had for those comparatively few people he ever really got close to once fame had crowded in on him.... read

ELVIS COMEDY HAIR ON THE BLOCK.

The strands of Presley's hair being auctioned were collected by a barber who gave the King a trim at his Graceland mansion in 1973 |
Elvis fans can have a brush with their idol by bidding for some of his hair in a Comic Relief auction of celebrity hair.
Also for sale in the online auction are hair snippings from Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe and the famously spiky hair of Gareth Gates.
Wool from the late Dolly the Sheep and locks donated by Graham Norton, Carol Smillie and Caprice will be sold in the auction, organised by hair firm Wella.
The strands of Presley's hair for sale were collected by a barber who gave the King a trim at his Graceland mansion in 1973.
The star was noted for his jet black locks, but was naturally a dark blonde who dyed it. |
The auction at www.wella.co.uk lasts until March 9. All proceeds go to Comic Relief, for which Wella is one of the official partners.
Wella spokesman Kevin Arkell said: "I'd like to thank all the celebrities who have donated their hair to the auction, their generosity - and temporary bald patches - are much appreciated."
Angus Deayton, Gary Lineker and Dale Winton have also donated locks of hair.
Comic Relief holds its national fundraising Red Nose Day on March 14. |

ELVIS UNLIMITED WILL RELEASE A TRIBUTE CD TO JACKY KAHANE ENTITLED READING THE DIARY.

Elvis’ long time friend and comedian Jackie Kahane died at age 79 in 2001. He’s one of the few people around Elvis that never have been so much attention on. Believe me "That’s a same!" Jackie was a very nice and funny guy! Like Colonel Parker use to say about Jackie: He’s a very funny man who can make all age groups laugh without embarrassing anyone"
EU Production will release a tribute Cd to Jackie Kahane entitled "Reading Of The Diary" on Friday March 28th This release will contain an in-deep interview with Jackie Kahane, some rare recordings of Elvis and his group on tour and last but not least the VERY funny recording of the reading of the diary. The story behind this "Diary" is that Jackie did write a diary on every tour he was on with Elvis. When the tour was over the band and all the crew people have a party (not attended by Elvis) were Jackie would read the diary and make fun of some the things that have happened on the tour. This Time (July 1976) did Jackie for example interview Felton Jarvis (Who’s dressed up as Elvis and acting like him). This interview is one of the funniest interviews that I’ve heard!
You can pre-order your copy of "Reading Of The Diary" from Elvis Unlimited for 149.- Dkk. + Shipping

JONES TELLS PK WHY ELVIS IS STILL THE KING.

THE grand old man of pop Tom Jones will be telling Patrick Kielty why he prefers Elvis to the Beatles when he appears on the Almost Live chat show tomorrow night (BBC1 10.35).
"I thought John Lennon and the rest wrote great songs, but they didn't impress me like my friend Presley," he said today.
The Welsh miner's son who has just received an Outstanding Contribution Brit Award, first met Presley in 1965 in Hollywood on the set of the movie Paradise Hawaiian Style and they were close for years until his death in 1977.
Jones (62) - and with no thoughts of retirement - is coming back to Belfast in early summer to play the Odyssey on May 13 - and it's going to be a sell-out.
"I'm proud that people like the way I sing," he said. "It's something God gave me and I did something with it."
During his career Jones has amassed a £350m fortune. He lives in Bel Air with his wife Linda, the childhood sweetheart he married in 1957.
On the show too will be Danii Minogue, Kylie's little sister.

TV DIRECTOR HENRY PETER TEWKSBURY DIES AT 79.
LOS ANGELES - Henry Peter Tewksbury, a director who won an Emmy Award for the television series "Father Knows Best" and created "My Three Sons," has died. He was 79.
Tewksbury died Thursday in Brattleboro, Vt., of undisclosed causes, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
His focus had moved away from Hollywood decades ago. For the past eight years, Tewksbury managed the Brattleboro Food Co-op's cheese department. His book, "The Cheese of Vermont: A Gourmet Guide to Vermont's Artisanal Cheesemakers," was published last year.
"His curiosity and commitment to whatever he touched, films or farming, milling wheat or tasting cheese, was astonishing in the depth of its commitment," said his wife, Cielle Tewksbury.
Tewksbury, born in Cleveland in 1923, was a Dartmouth College graduate and served in World War II as an Army captain. In the postwar years, he worked in radio and then as a community theater director in Porterville in central California.
When "Father Knows Best" moved from radio to television in 1954, Tewksbury was hired to direct the comedy starring Robert Young. Tewksbury received an Emmy in 1959 for his work.
In 1960, he created, produced and directed another hit comedy, "My Three Sons," which starred Fred MacMurray. A more complex series, the critically acclaimed "It's a Man's World," lasted just 19 episodes in the 1962-63 season.
Tewksbury went on to direct other TV programs and movies including "Sunday in New York" and the Elvis Presley pictures "Stay Away, Joe" and "The Trouble with Girls."
Tiring of the business in the 1970s, Tewksbury turned to ranching in California and farming and teaching in Vermont.

JUSTIN INSPIRED BY ELVIS, SAYS HIS DAD.
London: Justin Timberlake's sizzling performance last week at the Brit's award along with Kylie Minogue has once again won him the title of one of pop's biggest talents. He has been dubbed the new Michael Jackson, thanks to his sensational dance moves and high-pitched vocal style.
But the N'Sync star was actually inspired by Elvis Presley, reveals his dad in an exclusive interview with The Sun.
From the age of three, Justin sang along to the King's songs as he strummed his toy guitar. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee - home to Elvis's Graceland mansion - and Justin's family were always playing Presley records.
Now 22, he has enjoyed massive success with the boyband N'Sync, and his album, Justified, topped the British charts for a second time last Sunday.
Justin's musician father, Randy, split from the star's mother Lynn when Justin was two. But he has followed his boy's career closely.
Speaking from his home in Memphis, Randy told The Sun: "Justin was surrounded by music from the day he was born. We never had to teach him how to sing. Even as a toddler, he would sing and dance for us.
"When he was just two or three he would jump on stage when my band were playing and pretend to play his toy guitar", he added.
"Justin was raised very close to where Elvis lived and that was a big influence. Elvis was always around you in Memphis and Justin was a big fan. He was always listening to his records and singing along."

A LOT OF CONVERSATION WITH JXL.
Last year Dutch musician/producer Tom Holkenborg - aka JXL - shot from obscurity to worldwide sensation in just a few weeks on the back of his remix of Elvis Presley's A Little Less Conversation. He plans to stay in the headlines this year, he tells Mike Houlahan.
It's just as well Dutch producer JXL - aka Tom Holkenborg - took the words "A little less conversation, a little more action baby" literally.
The line comes from the obscure Elvis Presley track A Little Less Conversation, which he remixed as a dance track for a Nike advertising campaign during last year's soccer World Cup.
Holkenborg - soon to visit New Zealand - confesses to going ahead and remixing the track and then asking the Presley estate whether he was actually allowed to or not.
Fortunately for all, they agreed - A Little Less Conversation topped the charts in 20 countries, including New Zealand.
If you were a fan of industrial music you may have heard of Holkenborg's earlier band, Nerve, who in the early 90s followed in the musical footsteps of groups such as DAF or Front 242.
Techno trainspotters might have noticed the early releases by Junkie XL, which were highly acclaimed slices of hardcore techno which earned Holkenborg a tour slot supporting Prodigy.
"I always felt comfortable being in the underground and doing stuff that I really liked," he says.
"Suddenly I went totally overground."
As A Little Less Conversation took off worldwide, Holkenborg was left wondering what had happened.
"It's not really a commercial remix, it was a gritty, underground remix... but it was a $19 million campaign worldwide and the 25th anniversary of Elvis' death. So many things came together to make the track as big as it became."
Naturally, after the success of his Elvis remix the offers of work started flooding in for Holkenborg. "Insane offers" he calls most of them, to remix artists such as The Beatles and Frank Sinatra.
"I don't want to touch that because it's perfect as it is," Holkenborg says.
"The Elvis track, I would never have considered doing something like Love Me Tender or Burning Love. This was an unknown track which sounds like it has been recorded in a half an hour left over time in the studio, and I felt I could add a different vibe to it.
"For me, there are a couple of reasons I would like to do a remix. One is that you hate the original track, you think it's a piece of shit, and you think you can turn it into something great. It sounds arrogant, but sometimes I feel that way.
"Sometimes you love the original track - and you're talking about an unknown track from an unknown band - and you want to give it something else to give that band a bigger platform."
That was the case with Holkenborg's project immediately after A Little Less Conversation, a remix of a track by Australian band Infusion "which I did pretty much for a crate of beer".
He diplomatically refuses to answer which category remixes of artists like Rammstein, Natalie Imbruglia and Fisherspooner fall into.
One production assignment he is keen to talk about is Junkie XL's other big career moment last year, his collaboration with top trance DJ Sasha on his album Airdrawndagger.
"We connected on many different levels, not just music," Holkenborg says.
"For example, we both love to cook. Sit us down at a table and we can talk for hours about cooking. Aside from that, the music really clicked. He said he was looking for six years for someone who could connect with him and organise all the musical ideas he had into an album, so it was really special.
"It was a thrilling period. I learned so much from him and he from me. It was one of the best periods of my life."
This year, Holkenborg says his focus is his own music, with the new Junkie XL album due out soon. Three years in the making, Radio JXL: A Broadcast From The Computer Hell Cabin, is a conceptual double album, with each disc being a simulated radio broadcast from Holkenborg's Amsterdam studio.
"One is called 3pm and one is called 3am," he says.
"The 3pm CD reflects daytime radio and dance music merged with pop music, and I worked with artists like Saffron from Republica, Gary Numan, Robert Smith from The Cure, Chuck D from Public Enemy; there are 15 people with pretty different backgrounds on the record.
"The B CD reflects night time radio and is similar to what a DJ might do. It is very dance-orientated, it starts slowly and dubby, and builds up over 70 minutes to steaming techno."
Holkenborg's live set at the Two Tribes dance party he is playing at in New Zealand will be around 1am, so it will be very much a B CD showcase, he says.
He plans on coming back later this year with a full band and as many guest artists as he can rustle up to highlight the 3pm set.
* Junkie XL headlines Two Tribes, a dance music party also featuring Armin Van Buren and Dave Seaman, in Auckland on February 28.
