THE JOE FRANKLIN STORY!!

Auctionhouse Lelands offers a range of ten exclusive Elvis items at this moment. A guitar Elvis supposed to use during the Joe Franklin show in 1955?

Lelands Auctions

This is what Paul Dowling writes today on a forum:

This Joe Franklin rumor has been around for MANY, MANY years (and so has that guitar auction of his)! Of course it was started by....Joe Franklin. But Franklin has NEVER provided any photos of him and Elvis or any other proof that Elvis was ever on his show. I love the "In 1955, he gave Elvis Presley his first opportunity to perform on live TV" comment on the auction site.

Someone's really delusional. The documentation is nothing but a letter from good old Joe trying to continue the myth that this was "his 1st TV booking".

And Elvis doing "Shortnin' Bread"???? Wouldn't it make sense that, if he was on such a show around the "holiday season of 1955" that he'd be doing MYSTERY TRAIN or one of his songs! Of course it would.

Read the interview from October 22, 2001 with Joe Franklin conducted by Andylon Lensen for elvis news.com

Note Epgold:

Joe Franklin mentioned in the interview  "Elvis appeared with Ann-Margaret Olsen and Jimmy Rogers (both of whom were well known, far, far better known than Elvis) and it was not until the next year that he really became "ELVIS PRESLEY", via his appearances on nationally broadcast shows such as Ed Sullivan" .

Ann Margret was borned April 28, 1941 and in 1961 George Burns propels her into national prominence in Las Vegas Ann-Margret Olsson becomes Ann-Margret.

New Live Cd With Orion (Jimmy Ellis).

Jimmy performs a great set of songs from his own career and also covers from famous country artists and of course some Elvis songs.

The Cd will also contain an 8 page full colour booklet with many rare and unreleased photos of Jimmy, memorabilia and an informative text about his career during this period.

The whole concert has been professionally re-mastered from the original master tape.

"Fans Forever Memorial Wall" .

"Fans Forever Memorial Wall" is being built on land known as Elvis Presley Heights, in East Tupelo, Mississippi.

It is located near the birth place of Elvis Presley. This will be a tribute to fans, a man, his music, and an area in time, celebrated all over the world. This area was known as East Tupelo when Elvis was born. It was a town of it own with its own post office, etc.

Anybody may have their individual name or the name of another family member, relative, or friend engraved on the "Fans Forever Memorial Wall". Also fan clubs are more then welcome to do so.

"It's Elvis Time" the official Dutch fanclub is the first European fan club who engraved the name of their fan club as a everlasting tribute to Elvis Presley. We hope a lot of European clubs will do the same.

When you ever get the change to go to Tupelo make sure you pay attention of this memorial wall.

More Nixon/Elvis corrsepondence released.

The National Archives today released 122,800 pages of mostly routine correspondence from the Nixon presidency, none of it apparently earth-shaking but some of it mildly interesting.

One of the more extraordinary letters was from Nixon aide Egil Krough Jr., thanking a friend for helping secure a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs badge for Elvis Presley following Presley's 1970 Oval Office meeting with the president.

“We meet many fascinating creatures in this business," Krough wrote, "but I think that meeting between the president and Elvis Presley was one of the most interesting."

Elvis pledged his support to the president in the war on drugs, and had the president look in his desk for presents for his bodyguards… and their wifes… But Elvis was not the only celebrity to visit Nixon.

Frank Sinatra became a Nixon buddy, but early in Nixon’s presidency, his staff debated whether it was appropriate to have Sinatra sing at the White House. "I am sure that many of our friends in the entertainment field would think it wrong to have a former anti-Nixon person entertain at the White House," presidential aide Dwight Chapin wrote in a 1970 memo.

But Sinatra did perform, and he was soon signing his hand-written notes to the president, "Affectionately, Francis," while Nixon, ever the stiff, signed a photo of the two, "Richard Nixon."

Judge rules Wecht's jury to remain anonymous.

PITTSBURGH - A federal judge says jurors will remain anonymous at the trial of former Allegheny County Coroner Dr. Cyril Wecht.

U.S. District Judge Arthur Schwab isn't saying why, but defense attorneys objected, saying it's not necessary and raises constitutional issues.

With an anonymous panel, names are withheld from the public and attorneys. Neither the defense or prosecution made the request.

Wecht is scheduled for trial in January on charges he used his county staff to do work for his private pathology practice. Wecht, who has consulted privately in the deaths of Elvis Presley, JonBenet Ramsey and others, resigned in January after being indicted on 84 counts by a federal grand jury.

Filmmakers to Share Experiences of Making Elvis Presley Bio-Movie at LDS Film Festival.

OREM, Utah — Tears of a King, a bio-pic of Elvis Presley that explores Elvis' spiritual search, will be discussed as part of the LDS Film Festival in Orem, Utah, this Friday.

Film writer and director Rob Diamond, Producer Josh Pearson, and Director of Photography/editor/ producer Kels Goodman will discuss their experiences in the creation of their new motion picture at 2:00 PM on January 19. It will be one of several presentations given as part of the 6th Annual LDS Film Festival, chaired by Christian Vuissa.

The location is the SCERA Theater at 745 South State Street in Orem. (www.ldsfilmfestival.org)

The festival runs from January 17-20 and features dozens of films by, for, and about members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Tickets for all events are available at 801/225-ARTS, online at http://www.scera.org  or at the door.

Tears of a King was filmed in Orem in September 2006. It explores a part of Elvis' life never before told — his personal quest for spiritual knowledge and peace. During their presentation, the filmmakers will give festival-goers a “sneak peak” at some of the footage from the movie, which is still being edited. There will also be a Q&A session.

Millions know Elvis Presley’s music and the flashy jewel-studded costumes, but few have explored the man behind the myth, the loneliness behind the legend, and the spiritual hunger lurking beneath the glitz and glamour of a rock ‘n roll “King.”

Elvis Presley, as depicted in Tears of a King.

Behind closed doors, Elvis often escaped from his daunting public life into his bedroom at Graceland for weeks at a time — especially in his later years. This is where much of the film Tears of a King takes place. The filmmakers built a replica of Elvis’s room from the few existing photos and floor plans of the mansion in Memphis, in order to give fans a glimpse of a place where no fan has gone before — Elvis' personal sanctuary. The actual room at Graceland was sealed shortly after his death and remains untouched even today.

It is there that we meet the man Elvis, not the star. We see a man searching for answers in a world that for him has gone wrong. We witness first hand the struggles and hopes of a man humbled by his excesses — a grieving human being in despair.

Elvis Aron Presley grew from humble beginnings to become one of the most famous men ever to walk the face of the earth. He was known worldwide almost as well as Jesus Christ himself. Elvis seemingly had everything anyone could ever want. But what he wanted most — a family — he had lost due to bad choices and public demand on his time and energies.

Much of the film is told in surreal flashback sequences where Elvis comes face to face with his past. In a manner similar to the Scrooge character in A Christmas Carol, he gains insight from each of his reflections. And like Scrooge, he is guided in his discoveries about himself by a “mysterious man” — a supernatural character from the Beyond.

Newcomer Matt Lewis plays Elvis in the film, and in addition to his uncanny physical resemblance to Presley his speaking and singing voice almost perfectly match that of Elvis. In several musical numbers Lewis captures both the voice and spirit of “The King” so exactly that many visitors to the movie set thought they were hearing and seeing a ghost.

Power comes with fame and fortune, and Elvis lived in a world governed by his own rules, which ultimately became the catalyst for his demise and also his eventual journey to redemption. In spite of his human weaknesses, he was known to be a kind and generous man and a devout Christian — a good soul who sought peace and knowledge from his Maker. An avid reader, Elvis devoured many books and studied many religions. In one particular ancient and sacred volume, the film shows the “King of Rock n' Roll” as he comes face to face with the King of Kings and finds spiritual guidance in a time of great need and sorrow.

The film’s producers were able to obtain permission to use in the movie a copy of The Book of Mormon that was owned by Elvis, which is now kept in the LDS Church archives.

Tears of a King tells a story of struggle, of self-discovery, and of forgiveness and redemption. It is a film to be loved by both young and old alike. Regardless of religious affiliation, Tears of a King promises to be both entertaining and enlightening for movie-goers worldwide.

Tears of a King will be released in theaters during August of 2007 to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary of Elvis’s death.

At the same time, a factual documentary program about Elvis’s spiritual quest will be released on television and DVD.
Both films are produced by “7 Films 7” Productions and Matthew Reese Films. For more information go to www.tearsofaking.com or call 801/824-2843.

THE MEMPHIS RECORDING SERVICE  VOL. 1 - BOOK / VINYL / DVD-A

"The Memphis Recording Service, Vol. 1" is a book, a 5.1 DVD audio; and a vinyl 45 single. A 100 PAGE BOOK with exclusive new information, unseen documents and colour photos covering the humble beginnings of Elvis Presley's music career and its effects on the birth of Rock n' Roll during 1953 -1954.

The 5.1 audio DVD contains 11 fully restored tracks from 1953-1954. All of these has been remastered using never before released original sources of masters, acetates and tapes to produce high quality sound never before heard. A selection of photographs is used to accompany each song.

Highlights Include: For the first time since 1954 - That¹s All Right in its true Sun sound without the fake RCA echo. This track has now finally been re-mastered from the original Sun Mother master straight to 5.1 Audio/ Dolby Digital sound. This original version has never before been re-released on record, CD or any digital disc until now.

The 45 RPM VINYL SINGLE is processed and pressed for the first time since 1954 from the original Sun master ³Mother stamper². The original Sun 209 45 rpm issue of That's All Right was Elvis Presley¹s first commercial record. It was recorded on the July 5, 1954 at the Memphis Recording Service and was released later that month. In late 1955 That's All Right was re-released by RCA Records with an added echo effect on the vocal track. Subsequent re-issues of this song from 1955 to the present day have all contained that same echo effect, not faithful to the first Sun recording. If you have never been fortunate to own the original pressing and hear the sound as it was intended, here it is.

Through acquisition of the Sun's master 'Mother' - the part responsible for pressing the first run of records, we can present 'That's All Right' back in its original format with the same same matrix number and three pushmarks. This will give all true Elvis fans an exclusive chance to experience the birth of R+R for themselves.

Please note that this disc is a DVD-A and not a CD. It will not play on any CD player but will only play on DVD players and Roms. For optimum sound, it should play on DVD-A players but since most people do not have this it will play as dolby digital.

Elvis Presley Leads the Early Voting for the Greatest Rock n' Roll Artist of All-Time.

SEATTLE, Nov. 26 With a little over five weeks remaining to vote, Elvis Presley has an impressive lead in RockinTown.com's annual poll of the Greatest Rock n' Roll Artist of All-Time. The King leads Led Zeppelin and Evanescence, who are virtually tied for 2nd and 3rd, in the most recent tally. Last year's winner, Pearl Jam, is fourth while the 2005 winner, Nirvana, sits at 7th. Fans have until New Year's Eve to vote for their favorite artist.

"The 30th anniversary of Presley's death was this year," said RockinTown editor Mark Clinton. "Elvis has been gone a long time. So it's pretty amazing he still has a hold on a sizable audience." Led Zeppelin has consistently placed in the survey's Top 5 while Evanescence is the most current band to land in the Top 10.

Presley is the only 1950's star to make the survey's Top 50. 1960's legends The Beatles and Rolling Stones are at #12 and #22, respectively.

"Whether you are talking about his '50s rock or legendary comeback, Presley's music and image obviously has enormous staying power," added Clinton.

There might also be another reason. The 1950s are seen as a peaceful and optimistic era (even though that's not entirely true). "And after the tumultuous '60s, the '70s were practically docile, or as close to the '50s as we'd ever get," said Clinton.

"Elvis reached iconic status in the '70s performing sold-out shows in Vegas when he wasn't touring. So he's directly associated with two of the better decades - at least in memory. When times are uncertain, people get nostalgic."

A complete list of the Greatest Rock n' Roll Artists is available at:  http://www.rockintown.com

RockinTown also conducts polling on the Best Rock Act of the Year.

Elvis “Jungle Room” in Wild Life Magzine.

A very nice article in the Dutch “Wildlife Magzine”. With one black and white and three full colour pictures.

It gives the readers a very positive view on the room where Elvis recorded his famous “Jungle Room Sessions”.

Rev. Frank Smith Died.

Rev. Frank Smith, the man who pastored the Assembly of God church in East Tupelo when Elvis, Vernon and Gladys lived here, died Sunday morning approximately 9:00. He had been to breakfast and returned to his room. When the nurses came to check on him later, he was gone, sitting in his recliner.

Funeral arrangements are tenative; most likely Tuesday night for visitation; Wednesday for the funeral. Pegues Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

This November marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Jerry Lee Lewis' 'Great Balls of Fire'. We are offering some great deals in our
online store to celebrate the anniversary of this landmark recording, so keep us in mind if anyone you know would like some Sun gear.

Just type 'GBOF' in the "purchase code" window located in the bottom left of the checkout page to receive 40% off any clothing items.

We hope the year is going well, and wish you all a happy holiday season.

At Presley Place there will be a touch of Osborne Christmas Lights on the front gates and and inside each unit all families will receive a 6 ft Elvis styled white Christmas tree with blue lights and ornaments and a gift of Osborne Christmas cheer in memory of Elvis.

HIGH VOLTAGE - Birmingham '76 Revisited.

HIGH VOLTAGE - Birmingham '76 Revisited - As Recorded live from mixing desk in Birmingham, Alabama, Jefferson Coliseum, on December 29, 1976.

The two leading import labels have now joined forces, and are proud to present the first results of this very special partnership, a strictly limited edition release of the classic December 29th , 1976 concert in Birmingham, Alabama, under the title "High Voltage - Birmingham '76 Revisited".

Some of you may recall that this concert was originally released in mono on “Burning In Birmingham” back in ’98, and that it quickly became a firm favorite. In fact, many fans preferred this show over the legendary Pittsburgh concert from two nights later, as Elvis’ performance in Birmingham was far more relaxed and authoritive, and particularly Elvis’ intense reading of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” was a great surprise to many.

For this reissue, we worked directly from the first generation DAT, and we were able to make significant audio improvements. After a long and painstaking process of repairing and enhancing the original binaural recording, we were able to mix it down to genuine stereo, thus ensuring a much more satisfying listening experience. Originally, the left channel consisted of all the vocals and nearly all of the instruments, while the right channel featured the (isolated) keyboards.

To give you an idea of how the tape originally sounded in binaural, we added two bonustracks “as recorded”. This release is neatly packaged in a 16-page full color booklet with ultra-cool design, relevant liner notes and a collection of stunning pix taken during Birmingham show.

'Audionics / 2001' hope that this special joint-production will satisfy all those fans who have been clamouring for a reissue of this much sought-after title.

A great deal of care and thought went into this release, and we promise you that the improved sound will blow you away. In a time where you constantly see bugball labels ripping off classic titles with cheesy equalizer-jobs, it’s becoming harder to do quality releases, but we will continue as long as you want us to.

The original 2001 people want to thank everybody for their loyalty, and add that, “It ain’t over until the fat lady sings!”. And with this little gem of a CD, she finally has a good reason to sing with joy. This CD is scheduled for late December release.

Tracks:

01. Also Sprach Zarathustra (Theme from "2001 A Space Odyssey") - 02. Opening Vamp / C. C. Rider - 03. I Got A Woman / Amen (medley) - 04. Love Me - 05. Fairytale - 06. You Gave Me A Mountain - 07. Jailhouse Rock - 08. O Sole Mio (by Sherrill Nielsen) / It's Now Or Never (medley) - 09. Tryin' To Get To You - 10. My Way - 11. Polk Salad Annie - 12. Band Introductions - 13. Early Mornin' Rain (complete) - 14. What'd I Say - 15. Johnny B. Goode - 16. Drums Solo (by Ronnie Tutt) - 17. Bass Solo (Blues - by Jerry Scheff) - 18. Piano Solo (by Tony Brown) - 19. Electric Piano Solo (by David Briggs) - 20. Love Letters - 21. School Day - 22. Funny How Time Slips Away - 23. Hurt (with last part reprise) - 24. Hound Dog - 25. Status of Elvis On Tour DVD Release.

Recently, Elvis Australia asked Todd Morgan of EPE for comment regarding rumors about Warner Brothers' having cancelled plans to release Elvis on Tour on DVD. We also put forth for his reaction a suggestion regarding the future of the bank of footage shot for the films Elvis On Tour and Elvis, That's the Way It Is.

Elvis Australia asked Todd Morgan if the story that Warner Brothers' 2001 DVD release Elvis: That's The Way It Is, Special Edition did not sell very well was true. And if so, was this causing Warner to drop plans for the anticipated Elvis On Tour DVD release.

Todd's reply to us was, "Elvis: That's the Way It Is, Special Edition was very successful. There's no truth to any rumor to the contrary. There's also no truth to the rumor that Warner Brothers has cancelled their plans for the release of Elvis on Tour on DVD. We should see that come along from them in a couple of years or so. Until Warner Brothers is ready to share more details publicly, we aren't at liberty to say anything more regarding what they have let EPE know about their plans so far."

Elvis Australia suggested that since it seems unlikely to many Elvis fans that Warner Brothers would financially commit to releasing DVD box sets of the material shot for these two Elvis concert films, could it be possible for EPE, possibly with Sony BMG, to approach Warner for access to their vaults, offering to finance, produce and distribute special additional DVD releases of the footage with a royalty paid to Warner.

We suggested that it has been proven with EPE and Sony BMG's partnership on the Aloha from Hawaii and the '68 Comeback Special box sets that a financial success can be made with such comprehensive releases.

Todd Mogan's response to this was "We have suggested to Warner Brothers on several occasions the possibility of their someday licensing to EPE the Elvis, That's the Way It Is and Elvis on Tour footage for us to produce special additional DVD releases or partnering with us on such special releases as Andrew Solt did with us on last year's Elvis/Sullivan DVD set.

Nothing like that is actually in the works with Warner and EPE at this time, but it remains open for consideration in our ongoing and very good relationship with Warner Brothers. In whatever scenario it might happen, we just hope there will be special additional DVD releases of material from the two Elvis MGM concert films."

The special decoration stays in place until January 8th, Elvis's 73rd birthday.

The interiors of Graceland mansion will also be decked in Elvis' Christmas decor for the holiday season and will include Presley family Christmas artifacts on display for the first time.

Also new for this year is a special display featuring gifts and Christmas cards from fans, as well as rarely seen artifacts and Christmas cards sent to Elvis by other celebrities.

Throughout the mansion tour, various Christmas gifts will be displayed for visitors, including: a set of bongo drums Priscilla Presley gave to Elvis, Elvis' Bible, given to him by members of the Memphis Mafia, Portable television Elvis gave to his mother in 1957 (her last Christmas), gifts to Lisa Marie from Santa, including a giant stuffed animal, chalkboard, makeup table, and tricycle, …

Looks like Jay Leno bought a Harley.

In the Elvis newsletter that came out today it said:

Quote:

Jay Leno, the host of NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, is the lucky owner of one of the 30 Elvis Presley 30th Anniversary Signature Harley-Davidson motorcycles. You can check out lots of photos and even a video at Jay Leno's Garage.

Actually he didn't get one of the 30, he bought a prototype. This was one of the  first they made and it was on display at Graceland Plaza (or one was) at least through Elvis week this year when they delivered the 30 at Graceland.

BIRTHDAY WEEK 2008 - BIG NEWS!!!

A MEMPHIS CITY TOUR WITH A DIFFERENCE
JANUARY 8th 2008 (during the day)

Christmas is certainly in the air, and fans are beginning to look forward to their annual Birthday Week journey to Memphis. If you’re planning on being there, we have some exciting news.

Due to the success of our city tour in August, Essential Elvis is planning another all-day tour of the city. Bigger and better than anything offered before, we aim to show fans a huge number of Elvis-related sights in and around the city of Memphis - and all in the comfort of a luxury coach.

In August, a hundred excited fans were shown a total of eighty Elvis-related places (the general fan club / package holiday will offer around twenty) over a period of 8 hours. Instead of disinterested holiday reps, your tour is organised and conducted by Elvis historians who provide expert commentary along the way. You’ll enjoy accurate facts and stories by experts.

Our tour will begin at Elvis’ Circle G Ranch in Mississippi, and progress towards downtown Memphis. We have enlisted the help of a surprise guest, who will be coming along for the ride. This person was a personal friend of Elvis’ and rode around the city with him over many years in the 1970s. So, we guarantee some first-hand tales of life with the King - making this particular tour very unique.

The tour is on January 8th and will leave from the Graceland area once the ceremony on the lawn has finished. Cost is just £35.00 ($70.00) per person. Please reserve your places as soon as possible as seats are limited, and we expect the tour to be very popular. Email us now at enquiries@essentialelvis.com  with your telephone number.

A BIRTHDAY PARTY FIT FOR A KING
JANUARY 8th 2008 (evening)

If our great tour isn’t enough, we are also planning a wonderful party to commemorate what would’ve been Elvis’ 73rd birthday, and the venue is as exciting as what’s on offer. Join us at Vernon Presley’s former home on Dolan Drive, just yards from Graceland, to enjoy some great music and delicious birthday cake. You’ll also be able to mingle with Elvis’ friends, associates and colleagues. We are currently finalising details with some very exciting guests. Tickets (in advance only) are just £15.00 ($30.00) per person.

You’ll need to book your places in advance as space is also limited. Email us as soon as possible with any questions at enquiries@essentialelvis.com

SPECIAL DEAL

Combine both events and we'll end your tour by dropping you at the party, and we'll also reduce the price to just £40.00 ($80.00).

OUR AUGUST VISIT

For those who are in any doubt that we offer the very best time whilst in Memphis, take a look at our photos, now on our website. Simply visit www.essentialelvis.com  and look out for the red link at the bottom of the page. If you missed out in August, we’ll make sure you make up for it in January!

Eric Braun, one of Britain’s most famous showbiz writers, has died at the age of 86.

He began his career as a an assistant film director in the 1940s and went on to write bestselling biographies of Doris Day, Elvis Presley and Deborah Kerr. He also co-authored three books with the actress and comedienne Beryl Reid.

In 1945 he became an assistant director to the film producer Gabriel Pascal at Denham Studios and later he worked on David Lean’s classic 1946 film Great Expectations.

He went on to become one of the West End’s leading theatrical publicists representing stars such as Peter Sellers, Michael Denison and Dulcie Gray, and the pop star Ruby Murray.

As a showbiz writer he interviewed many leading Hollywood stars including Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford, Veronica Lake and Joan Bennett.

He contributed to many leading publications including The Stage. Ill health forced Braun to give up his Twickenham home in 2003 and he became resident at Brinsworth House, the Entertainment Artistes Benevolent Home in Middlesex, where he died yesterday.

Eric Braun wrote "The Elvis Film Encyclopedia" (ISBN: 9780879518141 / ISBN10: 0879518146) which was issued in the UK by B.T. Batsford Ltd. and in the US by Penguin Books in 1997.

UPDATE: Latest Ruling Over Dr.Nick's Collection.

The ongoing dispute over Dr. Nick’s collection of Elvis memorabilia continues. Although the Supreme Court upheld a ruling granting businessman Richard Long ownership of the disputed Dr Nick Collection, it seems that Defendants Robert Gallagher and Betty Franklin wanted an appeal. That was thrown out by a panel, so they are appealing their failed appeal.
Its all too much...

Here is the story so far:

California businessman Richard Long is suing ex-Las Vegas lounge singer Bobby Freeman (real name Robert Gallagher) for $1.2 million dollars, which he invested into a remarkable collection of Elvis memorabilia known as Dr Nick's Memories of Elvis.

Apparently this huge collection fills three large trailers and includes Dr Nick’s medicine bag - complete with drugs prescribed for Elvis, a laryngeal scope, Elvis’ copy of Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, several guns, a 14k gold and diamond TCB, Dr Nick’s tour jacket and a Tissot watch inscribed with Elvis Presley.

Items from the collection have been displayed in New Mexico, Harrah’s in Laughlin Nevada, the Hollywood Casino in Tunica and the full collection was due to be displayed at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas, which has now been conveniently demolished.

Freeman claims he has a 50% share in Dr. Nicks collection, but he has used the collection as collateral to raise several loans, along with other scams that mean he is being chased for several hundreds of thousands of dollars, and even the FBI are watching him. His latest deal with California businessman Long, for $1.2 million included the money to buy Dr. Nick out, but Long says he was duped and Dr Nick, is denying all knowledge of Freeman’s financial shenanigans.

The collection now sits in an aircraft hangar in Nevada, but it looks as though Mr Long will be packing it back into the trailers and taking it home by convoy and Gallagher and Franklin need to get back to their day jobs.

Graceland Zoning Issue Among Deferred Council Items.

Memphis City Council members will attend three more meetings together before most of them leave office at the end of the year. As their terms draw to a close, an agenda set by council chairman Tom Marshall back in September is shaping much of the last-minute business the council is pursuing.

It's also creating a to-do list that will require action after the New Year. Marshall originally had drawn up an 11-point action plan to guide the current council's final days. One of those 11 tasks had called for the council quickly scheduling a vote to approve a rezoning request needed as part of the large-scale redevelopment of Graceland, the famous home of Elvis Presley, along with the neighborhood around it.

That item has been punted down the road for the new council to address.

"The Graceland rezoning application just couldn't make it, because it came down to a matter of timing," Marshall said, referring to the fact that council ordinances must be voted on three times. "They simply couldn't make application in time in order for this council to go through three readings.

"So instead of jeopardizing that huge financial initiative with two readings before one council and then another reading before a new council, they've elected to start their initial presentation to the new council," he said, "which I actually recommended to them to do."

'Tremendous' but close to the vest: As far as what that presentation will consist of or the details surrounding the need for that rezoning, Marshall isn't saying. Whatever they are, Elvis Presley Enterprises - the corporation that officially conducts and manages Elvis-related business - apparently intends to make a big announcement about the effort soon.

"I can't tell you specifically what they'll be doing," Marshall said. "But I can tell you in very large and general terms that they are going to be pursuing a tremendous, unprecedented financial infusion to the current Graceland site. And they're going to be requiring council action to make it a reality. That action will include zoning and other potential community enhancement initiatives."

The most recent annual report of CKX Inc., which acquired an 85 percent ownership stake in EPE in February 2005, hints at what those efforts entail. Company officials already have held several meetings with local government officials in Memphis about revamping Graceland.

That redevelopment effort includes "building an expanded visitors center, developing new attractions and merchandising shops and building a boutique convention hotel," CKX management writes in the annual report. "This project is conditioned on a number of factors including obtaining necessary approvals and concessions from local and state authorities and attracting an appropriate hotel partner."

DUBLIN, Ireland - Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, star of the Henry VIII soap opera "The Tudors," has been charged with public drunkenness and breach of the peace at Dublin Airport, police said Monday.

Rhys Meyers, 30, was arrested Sunday after police twice confronted him over his erratic, abusive behavior at an airport gate and at a desk of the British airline BMI, on which he was planning to fly to London.

Dublin Airport Police said they called Ireland's national police force, the Garda Siochana, after Rhys Meyers refused repeated requests to calm down.

CHRISTMAS SPECIAL - GOSPEL INSPIRATIONAL FAVORITES BMG CHINA.

First of all, as everyone can see, this may be the most attractive promotional CD package that BMG China has released!

Well, actually it's not out yet but will be in early December. It is interesting because, since the Chinese don't celebrate Christmas but do enjoy gospel songs, they have titled this a CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!

Very odd but who cares as it's a REAL BEAUTY! Rumors are that there are some alternate takes and outtakes on this although it is not known how many and if they have already been issued.

Crone Corkill celebrates 30 years in careers.

1977 saw ‘Rocky’ pick up the Academy Award for best picture, the death of Elvis and the launch of the Apple II computer.

1977 was also a special year for office support recruitment consultancy Crone Corkill as they saw the opening of their first office in Eldon Street, London.

30 years later, 2007 sees the release of Rocky Balboa, ‘the King of rock and roll Elvis Presley’ firmly positioned as the second highest earning posthumous entertainer and the launch of the new Apple i-phone, demonstrating that quality brands are still impacting on today more than ever.

With over 90 consultants in five locations, Crone Corkill is one of the UK’s most respected secretarial recruitment consultancies.

The 30 years since 1977 have seen the role of the Secretary change out of all recognition. “The status and responsibility of office support staff has developed enormously” comments Tracy Durrant, Managing Director of Crone Corkill. “Whereas PAs and secretaries used to act mainly as gatekeepers, diary managers and typists for the boss, roles today have a much more strategic angle. Responsibilities can cover a multitude of differing areas – from office management to marketing – from HR to PR! Consequently, salaries are now on a par with many other professional staff and are a far cry from the £30 a week you would have got paid in 1977!”

“One thing that has remained consistent over the past thirty years is Crone Corkill’s dedication to a quality recruitment service” adds Tracy. “From day one we have worked hard to achieve the best results for both clients and candidates which is what has kept us as leaders in our field for the past 30 years.”

Larry Strickland joins new gospel quartet.

Away from the music business for several years, Larry Strickland, the former bass singer with Elvis Presley's Stamps Quartet, is making the music he loves again with his new band: Classic Sound Quartet.

Born in North Carolina and the son of a preacher, Larry began singing bass as a teenager and quickly advanced from appearances at local events to singing further across the state and then around the USA.

When his band opened for JD Sumner and The Stamps, JD was so impressed with Larry's singing he invited him to audition in Nashville for the Stamps.
So, in 1974 Larry joined Elvis Presley on stage in Las Vegas as the bass singer for the Stamps Quartet, and 'Life,' he admits, 'would never be the same after that.'

Larry is married to country singer Naomi Judd, who is well known for her Grammy Award winning partnership with her daughter Wynonna in the legendary country duo The Judds.

After Larry and Naomi were married 18 years ago, Larry stopped touring and singing to devote his time to his family and his wife’s career. Although he still manages Naomi, Larry recently began to miss singing and especially missed the Southern Gospel Music, which prompted him to make music again with Classic Sound Quartet.

The group has just released a new single to great acclaim, entitled Day By Day from their debut album In God We Still Trust.

Almost Graceland.

Buy Almost Graceland from Amazon

Steve Carlson, is regarded as one of the most successful commercial actors in USA, having filmed or supplied the voice for over 600 TV and radio commercials, industrial films and narration.

He has appeared as a series regular on General Hospital, The Young and The Restless and A New Day In Eden among many other appearances in hit shows such as Seinfeld, Baywatch and Hawaii 5-0

Steve has also been a writer in Hollywood for nearly twenty years, writing books on the craft and know-how of acting, but has now turned to Elvis as his subject matter in Almost Graceland, the tale of unemployed construction worker Ray Johnson.

Steve explained the reasons for writing his book to Elvis.co.uk:

'I think Almost Graceland started writing itself in my mind when I first heard that Elvis was born a twin but that the twin was still-born. I hadn't heard that before a few years ago but immediately started to wonder what would have happened if little Jesse had lived?'

'Would we have had the Presley brothers like the Everly brothers? ' 'How would that have changed Elvis's life and career as we know it?'

'The tack I decided to take was that they didn't meet until later in life. Elvis's life played out just as it really did. The twin possibility was kept from everyone; his family, friends, the press.'

'The whole experience has been great fun. This was one of the most unique of lives and it was a pleasure to spend time in and around it - even in a fictional sense.'

Here is a brief synopsis from Steve’s website:

Ray Johnston was an unemployed construction worker, whose only real claim-to-fame was that hardly a day went by without someone telling him how much he looked like Elvis. He got pretty tired of it.

Ray's life changed dramatically when he found some of his mother’s journals and learned that he was adopted. This was compounded when he later discovered that he had been born in Tupelo, Mississippi and shared the same hospital and the same birthday with … Elvis Presley.

Now, wait a minute! Those facts, plus the way Ray looked, (which even he had to grudgingly admit, was a dead ringer for Elvis) were just too many coincidences.

What was he supposed to do now? What should he do with this information? Would anybody believe him? How would Elvis feel? Ray found out. Word got out which led to the two men meeting face to face. That changed everything. As upset as Elvis was, thinking someone was trying to capitalize on his dead brother, neither could deny what they saw. Their eyes were mirrors.

An uneasy relationship ensued while they tried to figure out what to do about this.

Ray also got to know Vernon, Elvis's dad (and Ray's dad?). Though Elvis hadn't told anyone but Vernon about Ray, Elvis still couldn't decide if he wanted him around or not. One day he would, the next, everything would be called off. It was very frustrating for Ray, especially with a 'rag' offering up to a million dollars for the 'brother' story, which was awfully tempting at times

Eventually, Ray and Elvis rode motorcycles together, they argued, played racquetball, sang, dealt with a blackmail, shared stories about their very different lives and started growing closer. Ray was even mistaken for Elvis and kidnapped for ransom. Elvis got quite a kick out of that one. Ray also saw Elvis getting sicker by the day.

ALMOST GRACELAND tells the story of these two men, up to Elvis' death and it's aftermath. We are also privy to the poignant legacy left by Elvis, one that would change Ray's life forever.

Donny Osmond: "Elvis was a really nice, down to earth guy" .

Donny Osmond told a US entertainment show about his first encounter with Elvis Presley and how ‘The King’ became a family friend.

The singer told Entertainment Tonight he first met Elvis in Las Vegas. Osmond said: “I was sitting on the sofa looking at Elvis talking in that way he did and thought there’s a real person. He was down to earth and a really nice guy.”

Osmond also revealed how Elvis liked to check in on the family to see how they were, and even invited them round for dinner.

Donny said: “He loved calling my mum on the phone because he wanted to learn more about our family.”

He added: “He invited us over to his house to cook us some steaks. But he passed in 77′, three months before we were supposed to do that, so unfortunately it never happened.”

Plans for top release of Houston Press Conference.

The new Elvis Unlimited magazine features an interview with top-collector Sherif Hanna. Sherif, for obvious reasons, doesn't go into detail, but one quote is extremely interesting.

When interviewer Megan Murphy asks about his future plans, Sherif replies: "We can talk about the Houston Astrodome Press Conference. I have that in 16 mm. The original footage of that is absolutely stunning, it is gorgeous.

That is something that I plan to release on some kind of high definition format. And to do that, you have to have the original source to transfer to HD's." Sounds promising!

Zero Tolerance For (Public Domain) Bootlegs - Update.

Here is the latest full detailed FTD newsletter sent to FTD sellers.

"Unfortunately Sony BMG’s legal department has informed us about several of you selling illegal records, and apparently there is more to come.

As the guilty ones know, it’s both unpleasant and expensive to be caught, and for the future there will be a ”no tolerance” policy. Any customer getting in trouble with the authorities on this issue will automatically be dropped by FTD.

One of the key reasons for the development of FTD was to give the fan clubs legal product to sell in order to substitute the sales of bootlegs that escalated in the nineties. Not only are these illegal activities potentially hurtful to your business, but they also put the whole future of FTD in jeopardy.

We have heard many absurd excuses over the years for selling product that wasn’t legal (Czech republic releases is just one example), but all of you are experienced Elvis dealers, and it is your responsibility to know if the product you are selling is legal or not.

As some will know, the so-called P.D. releases in many instances are not P.D. at all. Original masters recorded AND released more than 50 years ago are public domain (free for all), but masters and outtakes released within the 50-year period are not automatically P.D. Selling illegal P.D. recordings is exactly the same as selling bootlegs. Don’t let yourself down!!"

According to Elvis Presley Scrapbook posted on a forum:

Music Service Recording  "New York RCA Studio 1: The Complete Sessions" .

The reason that HMV had stock problems distributing the latest Music Service Recording  release was partly due to Sony/BMG's current zero tolerance campaign.

A friend of mine who works for the distribution company that was responsible for shipping the product to the HMV stores told me that he was aware that his management had been notified by Sony/BMG to cease the distribution on the M.R.S. product !

“Any customer getting in trouble with the authorities on this issue will automatically be dropped by FTD.

Steel guitar player John Hughey dies at 73.

(Photo: 1951 John Hughey, Conway Twitty, Wesley Pickett)

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — John Hughey, a steel guitar player who toured for years with country legend Conway Twitty and recorded with Elvis Presley and many other stars, has died. He was 73.

Hughey died Sunday night, according to a statement from his publicist. The Tennessean reported that he died of heart complications.

The Elaine, Ark., native was credited with developing a unique style of playing that focused on the instrument's high tones, resulting in a distinctive "crying sound."

He started playing professionally in the early 1950s with a Memphis-based band, Slim Rhodes and The Mother's Best Mountaineers, before playing for about 20 years with Twitty, who was a school mate of Hughey's when his family lived in Horn Lake, Miss.

Hughey later recorded songs with Presley ,Loretta Lynn, Marty Stuart, Willie Nelson, Dickey Betts of The Allman Brothers and others. He recorded and toured with star Vince Gill for about 12 years.

"He gave my music definition," Gill told the newspaper. "His introduction to Look At Us makes that song recognizable by what happens before any words even get sung."

He still played live regularly with The Time Jumpers, a Western swing band composed of top Nashville session players.

"This is a pure heartbreaker," said Stuart, who had Hughey play on his 1992 album This One's Gonna Hurt You. "John was a top-drawer statesmen who helped define the whole 20th century sound of country music. The work he leaves behind is timeless."

Hughey is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jean, a daughter, four brothers and four sisters.

A visitation was scheduled for Tuesday at Hendersonville Funeral Home, with a funeral on Wednesday at Hendersonville First Baptist Church.

Note by www.ashlandcitytimes.com:

John was known as one of the best steel guitar players in the USA and was inducted in the Pedal Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. He also was a session musician for the album 'From Elvis in Memphis', with classics as 'In The Ghetto' and 'Long Black Limousine'.

The Buzz 100.

The 100 most discussed and blogged about artists.

Billboard's "Buzz 100" compiles a list of one hundred of the week's most discussed artists on blogs: "The Buzz 100 Chart is currently formulated based on the number of times an artist that appears on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart is mentioned in blogs. Each week, as new names appear in the Hot 100, they are added to the pool of artists from which the Buzz 100 is drawn."

The current top five is as follows:

1. Britney Spears (0)
2. The Beatles (0)
3. Kanye West (-4)
4. Radiohead (+1)
5. Alicia Keys (-8)

(Number in parentheses indicates change from last week; a lower number is better, so a negative number in the parentheses indicates an improvement. A zero indicates no change.)

Elvis is currently at twenty-eight, moving up four slots from last week's position (thirty-two). Other vintage artist in the top thirty include Bob Dylan (10), The Temptations (13), Pink Floyd (14), Bruce Springsteen (17), John Lennon (19), and Johnny Cash (29).

"Elvis Presley: The Life and Times of the King" book release.

Due for release from Taschen Publishers in the Movie Icons series is the 192 pages book "Elvis Presley: The Life and Times of the King" by F.X. Feeney (Author), Paul Duncan (Editor). The languages available are German, French and English (ISBN-10: 3822823236 / ISBN-13: 978-3822823231)

Synopsis (The New York Times Book Review): Elvis Presley would have been the first to laugh at the mad, godlike status he attained after death, but he would have surely identified with the human, gospel-haunted need such adoration rises out of. He shared that need, and courted it. He could sing and move with a spellbinding violence and grace. Yet his nature was also marked by a startling passivity - an eerily contented lack of ambition at his essence that kept him from growing after his first fiery years of success. That early fire still burns, nevertheless, and his mythical figure remains an omnipresent fixture today.

In "The Movie Icon" series, people talk about Hollywood glamour, about studios that had more stars than there are in heaven, about actors who weren't actors but were icons. Other people talk about these things, "Taschen" shows you. "Movie Icons" is a series of photo books that feature the most famous personalities in the history of cinema.

These 192-page books are visual biographies of the stars. For each title, series editor Paul Duncan has painstaking selected approximately 150 high quality enigmatic and sumptuous portraits, colorful posters and lobby cards, rare film stills, and previously unpublished candid photos showing the stars as they really are.

These images are accompanied by concise introductory essays by leading film writers; each book also includes a chronology, a filmography, and a bibliography, and is peppered with apposite quotes from the movies and from life.More bang for your buck! "...a fast-food, high-energy fix on the topic at hand."

Fortas ultimately spent nearly twelve years working for Elvis, having been asked to join his fraternity of bodyguards and close buddies that came to be known as "The Memphis Mafia" back in 1958.

He lived, travelled and played hard with Elvis during that time, watching Elvis become increasingly disillusioned with the endless stream of movies he was forced to act in, saw him become increasingly reliant on drugs, and witnessed Elvis's colourful sex life.

The only other memoir of Elvis that can offer such genuine inside knowledge and intimacy is Elvis and the Memphis Mafia, by three other members of his bodyguard fraternity, which Uncut magazine acclaimed as "the best Elvis book written to date", and which Aurum has already re-published and seen reprint four times.

Now it re-issues Alan Fortas' book, which has been out of print for over ten years. Written in collaboration with Elvis authority Alanna Nash, who also collaborated on Memphis Mafia and wrote the definitive biography of Elvis's sinister manager, Colonel Tom Parker, it is a must for every Elvis fan.

About the Author: Alan Fortas subsequently worked as an investment banker in Memphis, and died in 2004.

Alanna Nash is the acclaimed author of The Colonel, a biography of Colonel Tom Parker (also published by Aurum, 978 1 84513 025 1), and co-author of Elvis and the Memphis Mafia. She lives in Louisville, Kentucky.

New Elvis related movie in the pipeline.

UK stage musical star Connie Fisher is to make her TV acting debut in a new drama about an obsessive Elvis fan.

The former telecoms girl, starring in the West End production of The Sound of Music, will play Gemma Perkins in the film, which is inspired by a true story.

In Caught in a Trap, Gemma lives with her overbearing mother and downtrodden father and has a dull job emptying car park meters. But when she finds an easy way to improve her fortunes she goes on a spending spree for Elvis memorabilia - which soon spirals out of control.

Connie, 24, said she was "thrilled" to have landed the role. "I am very excited and can't wait to start filming."

The NEW Import EPB76 records label is proud to announce its first release scheduled early November and titled " Big Boss Man In Trouble " This Brand new CD will feature previously unreleased audience recording of an Elvis show in Atlanta, June 06, 1976.

This show last 80,00 minutes of pure magic music.

This release is taken directly from original MASTER tape and professional remastered with a great audio-quality. Its a full length show , the best of the June tour. It's a very good performance with Elvis in good mood and strong voice, the highlights of the concert are surely the rare last live version of “SHAKE A HAND” and an outstanding performances of “AMERICA&HURT&BIG BOSS MAN”.

The CD contains a de-luxe 16-page full color booklet with 16 rare photos mostly unreleased taken from the original concert in a very professional layout.

Extract from the inside note:

Atlanta, June 6th and the end of a tour of 13 shows where the last four were just in Atlanta. In spite of a passable tour with Elvis often not in good condition, slow in his movements and lacking concentration in some songs. Despite this the tour was completely sold out and with the public full of enthusiasm. The last show, presented here lasts 80 minutes. We decided to leave out the solos because the audio quality was very bad in respect to the rest of the tape and overall to keep the concert to one CD of purely Elvis. The Show is good the repertoire result very interesting without doubt is no the classic boring concert of the last period of Elvis' live activity. Elvis sings 19 songs with a great mood with a great public reaction, here is almost possible to breath the atmosphere of the Elvis' performance. The electricity that Elvis generates in the attendance is possible to touch with our hands what mostly considering the limitation of the audience tape here is the winner element…

ELVIS PRESLEY – "YOU KNOW, IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE STRICTLY COUNTRY “ VOLUME 1 and 2.

‘ELVIS PRESLEY – YOU KNOW, IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE STRICTLY COUNTRY “ VOLUME 1 and 2 are 70% unreleased and 100% better sounding 45 amazing tracks collected from private collections of which many for the first time in this shape on CD.

These are the acetates which Elvis took home to play-back and agreed to be released! All tracks have been digitally restored and re-mastered. These acetates often sound better & different than what we know and made it to a LP or nowadays on CD.

Some tracks which appear to be known are now for the first time in their complete form. So in a way it’s released and unreleased……… This includes studio talk, count in, left & right channels, longer fade outs or even different lyrics or simply differently sung. Most will be stereo.

As happened in the past some releases only used one channel (This was a easy way to reduce the distortion but so much got lost!) The audio difference between tracks is purely the source and the transfer.

Some have been transferred on to DAT others on to regular cassette tapes in the past. Keep in mind that the original acetates are various in playability.

Original acetates can only be played a few times (after that the quality gets less.) We chose for maximum sound quality per track instead of making them similar to each other! In this way you always get the best sound out of very recording.

The synopsis for these two cds: The masters without dubbing and without repairs in their complete form. Unfortunately we don’t have every master on acetate of the June and September sessions.

So we added some first takes to cover all songs. Also a few tracks of work in progress, a rare chance to hear, a song still being built up to a complete dubbed final master. Guide-strings, -horns, -backing vocals, the talking, it’s all there!

Something which will strike everybody is that Elvis’s voice remains impressive on each track.

Background information; It’s a public known fact that Elvis regularly disagreed with the released version of the songs. Unluckily he hardly made his point towards the ones responsible, knowing there were times he was wrong and the song became a hit (In the ghetto, Suspicious minds, Burning love and others) These two cd’s contain the versions how Elvis liked it!

All together a really new kind of release which will make many Elvis fan’s happy to hear these rare acetates available in their best possible form. The purist will be happy since no effects have been used to enhance the sound.

There are no further copies of acetates available in better sound, only a very few copies were made of each song and most are gone or badly damaged. The acetate lacquer wears out very fast so every track is unique.

HISTORIC REMIX OF ELVIS PRESLEY'S BABY LET'S PLAY HOUSE HAS EVERYONE TALKING.

NEW REMIXED PRESLEY SONG BY A CONTEMPORARY DJ/ARTIST IS RELEASED: SPANKOX (OF CLUB ANTHEM TO THE CLUB FAME) BRINGS ELVIS' VOICE BACK TO RADIOS AND CLUBS WORLDWIDE FOR THE THIRD TIME AFTER CHART-TOPPERS A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION AND RUBBERNECKIN'

Recognized worldwide as one of the most influential figures in music and pop culture, Elvis Presley is today on the verge of another career milestone, exactly 30 years after his death. Presley's classic Baby Let's Play House, re-mixed by progressive DJ/producer Spankox, will be released in several territories as a commercial single on the 10th of December.

Canada, Italy, Finland, Sweden and Norway will be the first territories to release the single and the reaction has been a mix of delight, surprise and respect. In Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Holland, Belgium and UK the track is available from today as exclusive download from the iTUNES store.

Spankox (his real name is Agostino Carollo) is a Verona (Italy) based progressive DJ/producer/composer who most recently wrote and produced the club classic "To The Club" and has produced and remixed tracks for Roxette, Snap! and Vasco Rossi (Italy's n.1 rockstar) among the others. This release of his treatment to the Elvis classic marks the third time in history that a Presley song that has been remixed by a contemporary DJ/artist will be will mass market: the first two, Rubberneckin' (remixed in 1998 by American DJ Paul Oakenfols) and A Little Less Conversation (remixed in 2003 by Dutch DJ JXL) were wordwide hits, selling millions of copies.

"Initially, we're always wary of anything that involves altering Elvis' master recordings in any way, but this Spankox Re:Version is fantastic and just blew us away. Elvis is a great and constant source of inspiration for the creativity of other artists, and this is an outstanding example of that," said Tom Holzen, President of EP Ltd.

"The Spankox Re:Version of Baby Let's Play House will deliver Elvis to a new generation of music fans in an unexpected, cool and compelling way," said Edward Johnson, Brand Partnership Marketing Manager of ELPR Inc.

After the digital release, the physical release of the record will be on CDvinyl: it's a special compact disc playable in a normal CD player but also by a traditional 33rpm turntable. The packaging of this original Elvis Presly CDvinyl, which is indeed a charming collectable item, will also be very special and will resemble that of a 12" vinyl. It will include a radio edit version, an extended version and the original Presley song. Also, as bonus, the ringtone and the fantastic videoclip (that can also be already watched on YouTube) will be included in the disc.

The United States release is tentatively set to Dec. 24th, although negotiations are still in process.

B & K has exclusive rights to manufacture these replicas, originally designed and produced by Bill Belew and Gene Doucette in the 1970s. Many of the original jumpsuits worn by Elvis in concert are currently on display at Graceland. Doucette remains involved with B & K in the creative process by producing the embroidery work on the costumes using original patterns and designs.

B & K has produced jumpsuit costumes for numerous films, television shows and print campaigns, including Disney's recent release "The Game Plan," the 2001 film, "3000 Miles to Graceland" and the November 2007 cover of Conde Nast's new magazine Movies Rock, featuring Bill Murray in an Elvis jumpsuit. The designs have also become popular with celebrity clients, including John Mellencamp and Madonna. EPE's first-ever and highly successful Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest held in August of this year featured many of the contestants performing in B & K costumes including the winner, Shawn Klush.

The family-owned business headquartered in Charlestown, IN, is one of the premier full-service custom costume shops in the world and produces costumes for stage and screen in addition to Elvis jumpsuit replicas. Butch Polston, owner of B & K Enterprises says, "This is more than a business, it's a passion. I'm a lifelong Elvis fan and his jumpsuits are pieces of art to me. The costumes personified Elvis' larger than life image as a music artist, it's an honor to create these costumes with EPE's stamp of approval."

In addition to replicas of Elvis stage wear, B & K offers a line of shirts, vests, belts, jackets, casual wear, jewelry, all authentic replicas of clothing worn by Elvis Presley. The new upcoming Dvd Documentary "Fit For A King" produced & Directed by Andy Dumas tells the story of B&K Enterprises, a unique costume company famous for their extraordinary recreations of the stage-wear and personal wardrobe made famous by the late King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.

It is also the story of childhood sweethearts who followed their dreams from Indiana to Graceland and around the globe.

Gene Doucette in Memphis 2007                                    Butch Polston & Bill Belew

“Fit for a King” also showcases the close personal relationships B&K Enterprises shares with designer Bill Belew, Presley’s personal designer, and Gene Doucette, who later designed some of the most famous and recognizable stage outfits for Elvis, until his death in 1977.

Containing rare video footage and archival photographs of Elvis wearing his amazing outfits, “Fit for a King” also showcases the risk-taking costume styling and imagery that was part of Presley’s power as a Rock and Roll Icon.Other segments include complete access to the new Jumpsuit display, and we were allowed to film inside Graceland.

We have great untold stories behind the suits. Rare Sketches of Jumpsuits that were never made. We have great interviews with George Klein, one of Elvis best friends. There is a great section on some of the best tribute artist. Even people who don’t like the tribute artist will enjoy this part of the story.

Another Elvis hotel?

Dream or reality? A group of investors is contacting fanclubs from around the world to see if they would be interested in another Elvis hotel in Memphis, near Graceland. From the mail by Fred Powers: “We have been planning to build the project as residential condominiums when a local Elvis fan (someone in the Memphis music scene) said "Why don't you create a hotel catering to Graceland visitors from around the world?" We think the idea has merit, so we decided to drop you an email and ask you, the friends and fan members who visit Graceland, what you think is needed.”

The four buildings (see picture) can accommodate about 100 rooms and a number of suites. There will be a very large rooftop entertainment area for parties (and play Elvis' songs as loud as you wish) food, swimming and more! Secure parking, concierge and room service, health facilities, parking for tour busses, the works! We are open to a creative way to make this project a Friends of Elvis residential project . . . with lots of activities related to the fan's wishes, like limousine service to and from Graceland, trips to the Casinos nearby in Mississippi, tours of famous Beale Street for great food and to hear the 'blues'.”

The gold award that was presented to Joe Guercio last September in the Elisabeth Music Hall (at the ELVIS 2007 concert) for sales exceeding 30.000 copies of ‘The Essential Elvis Presley’ is now in Graceland.

Angie Marchese, director of the Graceland Archives, received the award in the offices of Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis. Ms. Marchese told us that the award will be put on display in the racquetball building next week, right on time for the Christmas decoration.

Also note that the award is received with white gloves: the most precious items from the Graceland archives go through this hands!

Analysis: Vegas has become a political boomtown.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- What's new in Las Vegas? Everything -- including the politics!

Las Vegas is a boomtown, literally. Take Tuesday night's giant implosion of the Frontier Hotel. It was the Las Vegas Strip's first themed casino. It went up in 1942 and came down at 2:30 a.m. (5:30 a.m. ET) Tuesday.

Elvis Presley and Siegfried and Roy made their Vegas debuts at the Frontier, and Ronald Reagan performed there.

Now it's being replaced by -- what else? A $5 billion development modeled after New York City's Plaza Hotel.

They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. But not for long.

This is a town where everything changes -- fast.

Las Vegas's Rep. Shelley Berkley, a Democrat, points out, "I've got the fastest growing congressional district in the United States with 1.9 million people. We have 5,000 new residents a month coming into town."

Who are all those people?

They're young people with families, taking new jobs in the booming service sector. They're retirees, veterans, Hispanics and Asian-Americans.

"We build a school a month in order to keep up with the growth," Berkley said, noting that her congressional district also has the fastest growing senior population.

"I've got 212,000 veterans here in the Las Vegas Valley," Berkley said, in addition to the fastest growing Asian and Hispanic populations.

You've heard how the American labor movement is struggling to survive? Not here.

Berkley says Las Vegas is "the only community in the United States that has a growing union population."

The politics are changing, too. Until the 1980s, Nevada tended to vote Democratic. It's the Silver State. William Jennings Bryan, the candidate of "free silver," carried it three times. New Deal Democrats like Lyndon Johnson did well here.

The population boom of the 1970s and '80s brought a lot of new voters. Mostly white, mostly Reagan Republicans.

Now with a new population boom, it's changing again.

"We have recently flipped the state and there are now more registered Democrats than Republicans in the state of Nevada." Berkley said.

Who's this "we?" Vegas, baby, Vegas.

"Seventy percent of the state population is located here in southern Nevada. We've dramatically changed the state," she says.

With just five electoral votes, why is Nevada significant?

It's a bellwether. Nevada has voted for the winner in every presidential election since 1912, save one -- 1976.

What happens in Vegas may happen everywhere.

No On Tour on DVD.

Despite all the rumors that are flying around on the internet and specialized Elvis sites, there are no plans for a DVD-release of the 1972 rocumentary “Elvis On Tour”.

EPE’s spokesman Todd Morgan has just clearly given their view on the matter. Elvis Presley Enterprises is willing to work together with Turner/Warner, but there’s no project in the pipeline for now.

Therefore, and for the time being, “On Tour” will only be available on homevideo, not on DVD – let alone a DVD with a bonus disc and unreleased footage.

Donations for an Elvis Forest in Israel.

The Elvis Show Fanclub of Switzerland is collecting donations for our own project of a park in Israel with 500 donated trees...this park shall be then, when the 500 tress are collected, named after Elvis Presley, the King of Rock & Roll.

It will be planted next to the See Genezareth in the Swiss-Tiberias-Forests. This is a non-political project which is co-sponsored by the Jewish National Foundation KKL. This organisation is the main non-profit-organisation in Israel which stands in for the nature, such as resources of water and planting trees! Even in the desert!

So far we have collected approx. 100 tree-donations. Each tree costs only CHF 30.-, or in Euro: € 20.- (the amount in $ is becoming enormous). There are forests (of each 5000 trees) in Israel, which have been planted in the name of J.F.Kennedy and the Pope, so why not have an own forest with a beautiful plaque named after Elvis Presley?

Once JNF/KKL-Switzerland has received the money, they will (if you wish) send you a wonderful Elvis-tree-certificate (see picture below) with the amount of the donated trees. Therefor they will need your name and address so that they can send it to you or to a person that you want to offer it to. The Certificate comes in English language or in German language.

For more Infos, contact: kkl-basel@bluewin.ch  or www.jnf-kkl.ch  or esfc@bluewin.ch

Rock stars who have dominated the decades.

We've had Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Madonna and Kurt Cobain. Who next?

Since the inception of rock'n'roll over half a century ago it's been reasonably easy to identify the key figures who have dominated each decade, squeezing out all the other contenders not only in terms of their lasting musical influence (not to be confused with huge commercial appeal) but also making a significant social and cultural impact.

Setting aside all matters of personal musical taste and taking a tilt - for once - at objectivity, this list reads:

1950s Elvis Presley: Not the first. Not necessarily the best. But the most.

1960s Bob Dylan: Rewrote the rule book. Revolutionised the language of the pop lyric, and invented not only a behavioural template for the modern rock star but - with the Band behind him - rock music itself.

1970s David Bowie: Recognised - and, crucially, popularised - the almost limitless range of possibilities of what popular music could do, say, be, sound and look like.

1980s Madonna: The perfect pop construction. An almost indestructible marriage of ambition, sex, media manipulation, the ability to change faces - and a fistful of brilliant tunes. Everyone from Kylie and Robbie to Britney and Christina have watched and learned.

1990s Kurt Cobain: Yes, he died in 1994, but he brought the electric guitar and the intensely introspective "bedwetter" mentality back into the heart of pop music - where, for good or ill, they have remained ever since.

Some of you will no doubt have a problem with the list, but I'd argue that the enduring credentials of that rather motley crew are clear: in terms of sheer global impact, when it comes to a battle between Madonna and, say, Morrissey, there can only ever be one winner.

The real problem is finding the next influential name on the list: who on Earth is going to be in the frame come the end of the noughties? I've racked my brains and can only come up with a shortlist of Thom Yorke, Tupac (yes, he died in 1996 but his "afterlife" has been far more influential than his actual one) and, and ...

In fact, it's probably Simon Cowell. Tell me I'm wrong.

(Photo: David Hamal)

Months after a driver destroyed the beautiful “Elvis Presley Boulevard”’ signage on the crossing of EP Boulevard and Brooks Road, (mid September), the city has not yet begun repairing it.

According to the representative for the Visitor’s Center right behind the signage, there is even a reasonable chance that the plaque stays the way it is now, for at least another year.

Jay-Z locks his 10th No. 1, that will tie him with Elvis Presley.

Jay-Z is on course to achieve his 10th No. 1 album on The Billboard 200, as his "American Gangster" set (Roc-A-Fella) leads Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart, released (Nov. 7).

If Jay-Z locks his 10th No. 1,
selling between 425,000 to 450,000 units that will tie him with Elvis Presley for second place among artists with the most chart-toppers. Only the Beatles have more, with 19.

Unweighted sales for "American Gangster" through the close of business yesterday from the Building Chart's panel of reporters stood at 179,000. That's the third largest figure seen on the Wednesday Building Chart since SoundScan began compiling it in September. Jay-Z trails only the first-day numbers for Kanye West's "Graduation" (437,000) and 50 Cent's "Curtis" (310,000).

Jay-Z's last album, 2006's "Kingdom Come," opened atop The Billboard 200 last fall with 680,000.

On the Wednesday Building Chart, Chris Brown's sophomore Jive set, "Exclusive," was in second place with 107,000, while the Eagles' "Long Road Out Of Eden" was third with 89,000. Garth Brooks' new "Ultimate Hits" (Pearl Records) claimed the fourth slot, with 61,000.

The New Frontier Reduced to Rubble.

It’s a little after 3am on Tuesday, November 13th, 2007, and the Frontier Hotel (also known as the New Frontier) is no more. After a two-hour buildup and a few test fireworks, the sky above the Strip lit up with a full-on fireworks show at 2:30am.

Lights then counted down from ten on the southern side of the hotel, which had already been prepped for the implosion by the removal of windows and sections of the outer shell. As the timer reached zero, the number hovered for a few seconds before the big booms signaled the charges had been detonated.

Falling on top of its foundation, the building crumbled into a pile of rubble around 2:40am. A huge cloud of smoke billowed into the air from the explosions and the impact of the concrete, and we in the media area were blessed that the bulk of the dust and air debris was blown away from us, providing a clear look at the hotel’s final moments.

I’m still working on editing the video, but here are a few photos taken during this early morning event. This truly has to be one of the top most memorable moments I’ve ever witnessed, seeing this slice of Vegas history gone in a matter of minutes.

Lewis honored as ‘ American Music Master’ .

(Actor and songwriter Kris Kristofferson presents Lewis, 72, with a statuette naming him the 2007 "American Music Master" during the celebration in Cleveland. Lewis was the first living recipient of the honor.)

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- When all was said and done, Jerry Lee Lewis did not kick over any stools, did not set his piano alight, or wail songs of fire. Instead, he played and sang gently and beautifully of rainbows and bluebirds, and left very few dry eyes in the house.

Well into the autumn of his years, Lewis' body may have begun to wither, but his stature as one of the singular artists of all time has only grown. On a chilly Saturday night in Cleveland, he joined two of his personal heroes -- Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams -- in being honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Case Western Reserve University as an "American Music Master."

A three-hour tribute concert at the Playhouse Square's State Theatre capped a week-long celebration titled "Whole Lot of Shakin': The Life and Music of Jerry Lee Lewis." Previous years had seen Rodgers, Williams, Leadbelly and Sam Cooke, among others, recognized, but Lewis was the first-ever living recipient of the honor.

Still irascible and unpredictable at age 72, much speculation had centered on whether Lewis would show for the concert, and whether the resident of Nesbit, Miss., would actually perform if he did.

The New New Frontier.

The Las Vegas Strip is changing once again as another hotel implosion is just hours away. Demolition of the New Frontier hotel/casino should be quite impressive. Dynamite is wired up throughout the property.

This old hotel is where Elvis made his Las Vegas Debut in April of 1956. The implosion will be held Tuesday morning at 2:30 local time, and aired live on TV.

The company that bought the property is demolishing it so they can build a luxury resort modeled after New York's Plaza Hotel.

But what will the New New Frontier look like? This artist's rendering made available Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 by Preferred Public Relations & Marketing shows a $5 billion megaresort planned for the former site of the New Frontier hotel in Las Vegas.

Bob Gray Died.

Bob Gray, a major leader of southern Fundamentalism, died Sunday of an unspecified cause. A picture of Bob Gray preaching against the sensuality of Elvis Presley’s music appears in a 1956 edition of Life magazine. Elvis marked a “new low in spiritual degeneracy” according to Gray. Gray died one week before he was to stand trial for molesting several girls while he was a pastor.

This is what Elvis said about him:

When Elvis rolled into Jacksonville, Florida, on August 10, 1956, Judge Marion Gooding had prepared an arrest warrant for Presley charging him with impairing the morals of minors in the event that Elvis swiveled his hips.

Young people at the Murray Hill Methodist Church heard Elvis denounced in a sermon entitled, "Hotrods, Reefers, and Rock and Roll." Elsewhere in town, the Rev. Robert Gray, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, offered up prayers for Presley's salvation after declaring that the singer had "achieved a new low in spiritual degeneracy."

Elvis later confessed frustration at the Baptist preacher's actions. "I think that hurt me more than anything else at first. This man was supposed to be a religious leader, yet he acted that way without ever knowing who I was or what I was like," said Presley. "I believe in the Bible. I believe that all good things come from God.…I don't believe I'd sing the way I do if God hadn't wanted me to. My voice is God's will, not mine."

Elvis: From Memphis to Hollywood Re-issue.

Announced for April 2008 is the re-issue of Alan Fortas' book "Elvis: From Memphis to Hollywood". The first edition was published in 1992.

Synopsis:

"When in June 1968, clad in black leather, a nervous Elvis Presley made his television "Comeback Special", Alan Fortas was one of the five friends asked to be on stage with him.Fortas ultimately spent nearly twelve years working for Elvis, having been asked to join his fraternity of bodyguards and close buddies that came to be known as "The Memphis Mafia" back in 1958. He lived, travelled and played hard with Elvis during that time, watching Elvis become increasingly disillusioned with the endless stream of movies he was forced to act in, saw him become increasingly reliant on drugs, and witnessed Elvis' colourful sex life. The only other memoir of Elvis that can offer such genuine inside knowledge and intimacy is "Elvis and the Memphis Mafia", by three other members of his bodyguard fraternity, which "Uncut" magazine acclaimed as "the best Elvis book written to date", and which Aurum has already re-published and seen reprint four times. Now it re-issues Alan Fortas' book, which has been out of print for over ten years."

To be published by Aurum Press Ltd in April 2008 (paperback, 338 pages, ISBN: 1845133226 / 978-1845133221)

The REAL VIC COLONNA has returned!!!

Vic Colonna says: Hello sports fans.

I am back. Back from the dead thanks to Paul Dowling who somehow tracked me down in my cave in Montana where I've been holed up because I thought the feds were still after me. Any questions about those records that changed the recording industry?

You know, those nineteen single lps, three double lps, and the 4lp box set, they will be answered here while I work on the book that will chronicle those thrilling days of yesteryear.

Paul has provided me with a laptop and urged me to get in touch because he says some of you actually still care. I only ask one thing of you: If you are a fan of George Bush or approve of his policies please kill yourself immediately because we do not want you infecting the gene pool.

I saw enough fighting in Vietnam and in various African countries during my mercenary days and for what dumbya has done he should right now be hanging from a yardarm or walking the plank to shark–infested waters below. When men were men we would have run this scoundrel out of town on a rail, tarred and feathered. Enough of that, before I tell you how I really feel let's talk about the Elvis records, those fun days, days when many of you could not get enough of that stuff and kept asking about our next release.

Yes, we had more records "In the can" when we hung up our Rock 'n' Roll shoes but those pesky g-men, thanks to the election of Ronnie Rayguns, forced us to call it a day. I see Ernst has carried on the tradition quite capably. He still has some goodies for you, of that I am sure, either that or we had some things he did not.

We'll have to see, and if you still have not heard "Afternoon jam", what would have been our next record, a great session with Elvis and the boys jamming in NBC studios one afternoon during the filming of the '68 comeback, then we will have to petition him to get that out to you all. Elvis sings "Young love" and "Oh, Happy day" and it is a treat.

1957 Original Graceland Signed Real Estate Contract Archive.

Vernon and Gladys Presley lived in a well-appointed house on Audubon Drive in Memphis, TN, purchased for them by their increasingly famous son, Elvis. They would have been comfortable there had their son not become the biggest show business sensation in the western world. It soon became apparent that 1034 Audubon Drive failed to provide privacy from an increasing army of fans who even started camping on the home’s front lawn.

Consequently, Elvis and his parents spent much of early 1957 in Hollywood where Elvis was filming “Loving You”, which featured his parents as extras. On Saturday, March 17, 1957, a day after they returned to Memphis, Elvis’ mother and father called real estate agent Virginia Grant to see what she had to offer. Grant wasted no time. That day she showed them two properties, leaving Graceland to last. By 6 p.m. she had accepted a $1,000 deposit from the Presleys and drawn up a provisional sales contract detailing the terms of sale, including an asking price of $90,000.

At 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 22-year-old Elvis, accompanied by his parents, met Grant at Graceland. According to the real estate agent's highly detailed, published account of the transaction, Elvis surveyed the property for a few minutes, then baptized the house by playing some Rock & Roll at a piano. Elvis, Vernon and Gladys Presley signed the sales contract on the spot as purchasers, and a closing date was set for Tuesday, March 26, at 4:30 p.m.

The remarkable archive Mastro Auctions’ is offering in its December Connoisseur Sale details these landmark events. It includes two legal size copies of the sales contract document, each double-sided and dated March 17, 1957. The Graceland signing is written in Grant's hand in red ink, hand-dated by Grant and signed on the reverse by the Presley family as purchasers and Virginia Grant as selling agent. Vernon Presley signed first in bold deep blue fountain pen, Elvis appears immediately below in a different ink, and Gladys Presley signs below in different black ball point. The trio of signatures is immensely scarce, particularly Gladys Presley who died on August 14, 1958.

Accompanying is a second, final version of the sales contract. Amendments include a revised price of $102,500, inflated due to several offers made to the seller as news of the deal leaked out. Also included is a remarkable survivor from the closing: a receipt slip dated March 26, 1957, acknowledging repayment from Virginia Grant of the $1,000 and signed by Elvis Presley.

Auction estimate is $50,000 - $75,000.

Play addresses Elvis' influence.

The nature of Elvis Presley will be explored in the world premiere of a play that presents a down-to-earth portrayal of Elvis' past and challenges audiences to reconsider their opinions about his origins.

"Tupelo: to Elvis and the town he left behind," will open at 8 p.m. today at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro. It is the inaugural event of UNC's 15th annual Southern Writers in Performance Series. It will play again tomorrow and also 15-18 November.

The play deals with two fictional boys, one black and one white, who, as friends, went to see a free concert Elvis gave for his hometown of Tupelo in 1956. Paul Ferguson, professor of performance studies at UNC and the play's director, described the town of Tupelo, Miss., as "a highly segregated place with a lot of racial tension and socioeconomic disparity," which enjoyed a rare sense of unity at the concert.

"Because (Elvis') music was so deeply influenced by African-American blues artists and jazz singers, he appealed to that community," Ferguson said."

The concert was a time when an African-American kid and a white kid could go to the same concert, as friends, without any kind of societal barriers between them."

Ferguson said after seeing the concert, the boys were deeply moved and found something they wanted to embrace: an undivided Tupelo. The play's theme of illuminating the past runs parallel to a motive of Ferguson's to dispel a rumor about The King.

"There was a persistent kind of myth that Elvis might have been a racist; in fact he was the opposite," Ferguson said. "The play offered me a chance to continue the debunking of that myth."

The belief that Elvis was racist is based on claims that he made a bigoted remark during a radio show moderated by Edward R. Murrow.

"In reality, (Elvis) was never on the radio show and never said that. Even Edward R. Murrow said that it was completely untrue," Ferguson said. "If anything, Elvis is the only artist who is giving African-Americans the due credit for his works."

LaMark Wright, who plays one of the lead roles in the play, said he was at first unsure about assuming the role of a black man in the context of Elvis' supposed racism.

"I had always heard the story about 'Yeah Elvis is racist and all this and all that,' and that's the notion I had gathered," Wright said. "I had preconceived notions of who and what Elvis was. (Tupelo) spoke volumes to me about what I had to personally let go of or re-evaluate."

Andrea Powell, an actress in the play, said performing in "Tupelo" gave her a new picture of the famed singer.

"One thing that I really love about this play is that it approaches the story of Elvis from a completely different perspective," she said.

"(People) think Graceland, 'Viva Las Vegas' sequined guy, but this play focuses on what really made him different in terms of changing music forever."

Elvis is Alive Museum sold.

Someone from Elvis Presley's home state of Mississippi has placed the highest bid in an EBay auction of memorabilia from a museum devoted to proving that the King is still alive. The bidder had until the close of business Friday to put up the US$8,300 and arrange to pick it up from the Missouri museum, which is shutting down. The auction closed at 5:20 p.m. Thursday.

If the high bidder does not emerge, the museum's proprietor can offer the memorabilia to the second-highest bidder at $8,200. As of Friday afternoon, three e-mails to the high bidder had not been returned.

"He could be a very busy individual and hasn't slowed down or he could be so excited he won he had a heart attack and is in the hospital," said Steve Beeny, the son of museum owner Bill Beeny. "I'm keeping an open mind. Hopefully, he will make contact."

Bill Beeny, 81, placed the memorabilia on EBay late last month. He hoped someone would buy the collection and open a new museum dedicated to the idea that Elvis never died. The collection includes photographs, books, yellowed news clippings and replicas of Elvis' Cadillac and the casket and gravestone from his 1977 funeral - which Beeny believes was a fake.

The Baptist minister founded the quirky museum in 1990. Steve Beeny declined to put a value on his father's collection.

"Value is in the eye of the beholder," he said. "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

He said Bill Beeny would have liked the museum to stay in the family but all of his six kids "have real life going on."

"I'm sure there's some regret there," Steve Beeny added. "But he's always been one to look forward and not look back. It's bittersweet. It's kept us entertained through the years."

Original Nativity set for sale.

The original Nativity set that was used at Graceland, beginning with the 1965 Christmas season, is now for sale on eBay.

The seller, Med Phipps, is the son of the late Hardy Phipps, a local Memphis artist who contracted to provide the annual Christmas scene at Graceland until the early 1990’s. Hardy created this handmade, hand-painted fiberglass nativity scene for Elvis and Priscilla to display at Graceland in the 1960’s.

The stable was later upgraded and enlarged. As a young man, the current seller helped his father set up the scene each year. The set includes

• Mother Mary

• Joseph

• Three kneeling wise men

• One standing shepherd

• One angel

• One calf’s head

• Three-piece stable

"Elvis The King- 30 tracks" / "Elvis #1 Hits - 15 tracks"

The DVD "Elvis #1 Hit Performances" released in the U.S.A. with 15 tracks has been released as ""Elvis The King" in Europe with 30 tracks.

The U.S.A version has fewer tracks, according to Graceland, because of clearance problems with the extra tracks. Anyway, SONY/BMG in Germany has released it in NTSC, Region code "0," which is playable on U.S.A. DVD players and TVs.

I just got my copy from Amazon/Germany (approximately $45 U.S.D.) in about 10 days - it's really nice to have the extra 15 tracks.

Any U.S.A. fan who is interested in buying the 30 track edition, go to:

Cyrus out-Elvises Elvis.

Elvis Presley was a lot of things. He was a rags-to-riches success story. He borrowed blues and gospel licks from the black performers he admired and introduced them to a mainstream audience. He wasn't a mere American Idol, but the king himself. But he didn't really know how to tell a woman to "Love Me Tender," singing the song with a syrupy sincerity that's rarely the best way to a lover's heart.

Cyrus Chestnut, on the other hand, knows how to conjure up a spirit of genuine romance. Just listen to the jaunty jazz pianist's reinvention of "Love Me Tender" on his new CD, Cyrus Plays Elvis. It's a great example of how a gifted musician can take a sappy song and set it free.

The much-heard melody, lifted from an old Civil War ballad, rings out with newfound oomph, sounding insistent yet dreamy. Chestnut reinvigorates the song with lush chords, playful grace notes, worshipful tremolos and effortless runs up and down the 88s. Sometimes, the melody disappears altogether before returning, as if by magic. Chestnut works over the keyboard to win over the unnamed object of his desire, and it's hard to imagine anyone not giving in.

Je t’aime, Nicolas Sarkozy tells America as he aims to be the ‘ally-in-chief’

President Sarkozy of France yesterday dazzled President Bush and Congress by proclaiming his love for America as he sought to rekindle a long alliance that turned soured over war in Iraq.

His address to both Houses of Congress was delivered in French. He began by breathing warm words of fidelity into the translation earpieces worn by almost all the US legislators.

To the first of many standing ovations he spoke of the shared values and history of the two nations, dating back to the War of Independence, and declared: “France is the friend of the United States of America.”

At a dinner held in his honour the previous evening, Mr Sarkozy had signalled his amorous intentions when he toasted President Bush, saying: “On behalf of all Frenchmen, I want to reconquer the heart of America.”

Mr Bush replied by making a rare foreign-language foray, welcoming his guest with the words “Bienvenue à la Maison Blanche.” The White House — as it is more usually known — has been enthralled by Mr Sarkozy, who appears ready to slip into the role of “ally-in-chief” so recently vacated by Tony Blair.

The British former Prime Minister’s own address to Congress in 2003 had been received with a huge ovation. But yesterday Senator Patrick Leahy suggested that Mr Sarkozy had outdone him, saying that the response to a foreign leader had been the “most positive that I’ve heard in 30 years”.

At a joint press conference with Mr Bush held at the Mount Vernon home of George Washington, Mr Sarkozy reiterated his hardline stance against the nuclear ambitions of Iran, saying that “the outstretched hand of continued discussion” must go together with the “worst-case scenario” of military action.

Mr Bush said that there had been disagreement with France over the invasion of Iraq, but added: “I don’t sense any difference of opinion now.” He continued: “It’s safe to say that you’ve impressed a lot of people here on your journey. I have a partner in peace, somebody who has clear vision, basic values, who is willing to take tough positions to achieve peace.”

In his speech to Congress yesterday the French President did not even mention Iraq. Instead he chose to pay tribute to the sacrifice of US soldiers in both world wars for which France owed America “an eternal debt”.

He added: “Whenever an American soldier falls somewhere in the world, I think of what the American Army did for France. I think of them and I am sad, as one is saddened to lose a member of one’s family.”

He promised that the two countries would stand together in the “fight against terror”, solemnly declaring that French troops would “remain engaged in Afghanistan for as long as it takes” and suggesting that Iran should not “doubt our determination” to stop it developing nuclear weapons.

Mr Sarkozy described “the American dream” and went on to cite such figures as Elvis Presley, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe and Neil Armstrong as he spoke of the impact that the US had made on his generation. But he also knew that his performance would be closely followed back in France. The Opposition is ready to pounce on him for fraternising too closely with Mr Bush, cartoonists have already started depicting Mr Sarkozy as an American “lap-dog” and his own Gaullist party is itself nervous about his enthusiasm for America.

With this is mind he concluded his speech by setting out areas of disagreement, including monetary policy and currency speculation with a country that should be “setting an example”.

Mr Sarkozy said that America’s admirers expected it “to stand alongside Europe in leading — I repeat, leading — the fight against global warming”.

The US hopes that he will bring France back into full Nato membership, healing a rift that dates from 1966, during the presidency of Charles de Gaulle. But yesterday Mr Sarkozy suggested that America needed first to be less suspicious of plans for a common European defence force.

“The more successful we are in establishing a European defence, the more France will be resolved to resume its full role in Nato,” he said.

Curdled relationship

1778 France enters American Revolutionary War, providing crucial support for the US

1803 France sells the US 530 million acres of French North American territory. The Louisiana Purchase was the biggest land deal in US history

1886 The Statue of Liberty is presented by France to the people of the US. It is agreed that France would produce only the statue, whereas the US would have to pay for her (more expensive) pedestal

First and Second World Wars US troops are instrumental in pushing German forces from French soil, joining the First World War in 1917 and contributing 70,000 men to the Normandy landings in 1944

2003 French President Jacques Chirac is a leading opponent of the US foreign policy, pledging to veto a second UN Security Council resolution that would have authorised the use of military force against Iraq. Chirac’s stance leads to growing anti-French feeling in the US, with a Capitol Hill Administration Committee ordering French fries be renamed freedom fries.

Note: Today on French television - news, they talked about the new Johnny Hallyday album, made in the States, and again Johnny said that seeing LOVING YOU, it changed his life in 1958 at 15 years old. Great !

Supreme Court upholds ruling in dispute over Elvis memorabilia.

DOVER, Del.—The Delaware Supreme Court has upheld a ruling granting a California businessman ownership of an odd collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia, including a glass nasal douche reportedly used to irrigate the King's sinuses before he took the stage.

A Chancery Court judge entered a default judgment in July in favor of Richard Long after his erstwhile business partners, Robert Gallagher and Betty Franklin of Nevada, repeatedly failed to appear for court hearings and depositions and ignored court orders to allow the collection to be inspected for insurance purposes.

Gallagher, also known as Bobby Freeman, appealed to the state Supreme Court after vice-chancellor Leo Strine Jr. held him and Franklin in contempt and gave Long authority to dissolve the partnership and sell the collection.

The Supreme Court rejected arguments by Gallagher and Franklin that their behavior was excusable, and that Strine violated their due process rights in entering a default judgment for Long.

"To the contrary, the Court of Chancery demonstrated commendable patience and forbearance in its dealings with the Gallaghers," Justice Jack Jacobs wrote in a ruling handed down Tuesday. "Only when the Gallaghers had clearly demonstrated an extreme degree of willfulness and conscious disregard for the Court of Chancery's orders did the Court of Chancery impose its sanctions."

The collection, known as "Dr. Nick's Memories of Elvis," consists of items once owned by Dr. George Nichopolous, once a personal physician to the rock star who died of heart disease and prescription drug abuse in 1977 at his Memphis mansion. Among the items is a black doctor's bag used by Nichopolous and containing prescription bottles bearing Presley's name. The collection also includes jewelry, guns, and a laryngeal scope used to examine Presley's throat.

According to the lawsuit, Nichopolous, who has collaborated with Gallagher and Franklin in past exhibitions of the collection, agreed last year to sell it to them and Long for $1 million.

Long said he agreed to put up the $1 million, and that Gallagher and Franklin, who claimed to have a "half interest" in the collection, agreed to assign all their rights to a limited liability company he controlled. Long also allegedly agreed to lend the new company $1 million to cover expenses incurred by Gallagher and Franklin, and another $1 million for operating capital.

Long alleged in his lawsuit that Gallagher and Franklin refused to surrender access to the memorabilia and would not provide proof of their expenses and the paperwork needed to obtain insurance. He also claimed that within weeks of closing the deal, Gallagher said he was putting together a group to buy him out. The sale never developed and Franklin blamed Long for "tremendous losses" after plans to exhibit the collection at the Stardust casino in Las Vegas before it closed last year fell through.

At one point, the collection was being stored inside three tractor-trailers in Nevada airport hangars. David Finger, an attorney for Long, said Wednesday that his client doesn't know where the collection is now but is determined that Gallagher give it up.

"If he does not turn it over, we will seek to have him incarcerated," Finger said.

Michael Matuska, an attorney representing Gallagher and Franklin in a Nevada lawsuit against Long, did not immediately return a telephone message Wednesday.

COMMITTED TO DIGITAL: Malco Speed Deployment in Partnership with Dolby.

The King of Rock 'n' Roll recently had one last encore on celluloid at the fourth annual Elvis Film Festival in Memphis, Tennessee, during the 30th edition of the city's official Elvis Week. Although digitally remastered by Warner Home Entertainment, the return of four of Elvis Presley's movies to the big screen at Malco Theatre's Studio on the Square still happened on film. At this classic house, Malco VP of operations and technology Mike Thomson contends, digital deployment "is a little difficult because of how the theatre was built, but we'll definitely do it."

Elvis may have mused "Live a Little, Love a Little", but at Memphis-based Malco, management and audiences love digital a whole lot. Elsewhere at the 17th-largest circuit in North America with 330 screens at 33 locations across the mid-South, film has already pretty much left the building. "Even at 2K resolution", Thomson enthuses, "it is amazing what these pictures look like at Malco. For me, they exceed film already in many, many ways. Our customers are asking for digital presentations. Every screen in the Malco circuit will be Dolby Digital - that is the commitment."

... Adding the same Barco 3000 projector that during this past ShoWest "put something like seven-plus foot-lamberts on that Real D screen at the Jubilee Theater", Thomson envisions the very first dual-digital-projector 3D at his 62.5-foot (19 m) giant Memphis Paradiso screen. "If all that comes together for Beowulf in the way I';m hoping it will, with all the final calibrations done perfectly, we'll have something to compete with IMAX. It will make that 3D image stand out like you would't believe". What would Elvis have crooned about that?

MUSEUM PROPRIETOR PUTS ELVIS MEMORABILIA ON EBAY.

(Photo: Bill Beeny, proprietor of the Elvis is Alive Museum in Wright City, Mo., has placed his Elvis memorabilia on eBay in hopes someone else will keep the dream alive that the King never died.Jeff Roberson - Associated Press)

The King needs some help to stay alive.

WRIGHT CITY, Mo. — If Elvis were here today, he might say, "Thank you, thank you very much" for the 17 years an odd Missouri outpost has been making the case that the King never died.

But the burden of proof soon will fall on someone else's shoulders.

Bill Beeny, the 81-year-old proprietor of The Elvis is Alive Museum, said he has placed his Elvis Presley memorabilia on eBay in hopes that someone else will take up the cause. His collection includes photographs, books, FBI files, replicas of the Cadillac the King drove and of the casket and gravestone from his 1977 funeral, even a painted Elvis head.

Beeny, a self-described "western Kentucky hillbilly" Baptist minister who wound up in Missouri 50 years ago, is selling the contents of his roadside attraction, a transformed coin-operated laundry 55 miles west of St. Louis that he opened in 1990, to satisfy something else that drives him.

"I have a burden to help people," said Beeny, wearing the penciled dark mustache, long sideburns and slick black hair of an Elvis aficionado. "Someone else can run, will run, the museum. No one in the whole county is doing the job I intend to do."

Beeny wants to put his energy into serving the needy in rapidly growing Warren County by providing child care, senior services, a food pantry and counseling for the addicted.

Beeney said he'll miss Elvis, "but life has its changes. You have to let go."

He hopes someone will buy the collection and open a new museum dedicated to the theory that Elvis lives — although the look and feel of Beeny's place could be hard to duplicate.

Outside, a 16-foot sign of a rhinestone-belted Elvis holding a microphone dominates an otherwise humdrum small-town landscape. A replica of Elvis' old Cadillac that hasn't been started for years is parked out front.

Inside the small museum, signs in large, bold letters and exclamation points scream out, "FREE MUSEUM," "SEE FUNERAL ROOM," "10 REASONS WHY I BELIEVE ELVIS IS ALIVE!" and "DNA PROVES ELVIS IS ALIVE."

Visitors wind their way around a casket, complete with a mannequin that doesn't look anything like Elvis, hundreds of photographs and yellowed news clippings, and a poster of the famous photo of President Nixon and Presley from 1970.

Visitors can hear what is said to be a tape recording of Presley's voice, supposedly copied off a telephone answering machine six years after the funeral, as well as see piles of documents that Beeny said are FBI files proving Presley's involvement with federal authorities.

Beeny, who had been only a nominal fan of Elvis Presley, started to doubt his death when customers at Beeny's former 1950s Cafe in Wright City asked questions that couldn't be answered.

Beeny said he eventually showed that the tissue samples of Elvis he says he obtained from a Memphis doctor did not match samples he says were taken from the cadaver "purported to be Elvis." Beeny later wrote a book, "Elvis' DNA Proves He's Alive!"

He also claims Presley had good reason to disappear: He's in the federal Witness Protection Program for assistance he provided federal law enforcement authorities.

Implosion Date Set For The New Frontier.

Its been expected for some time, but the New Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas is to be imploded at 2.30am on November 13, to make way for The Plaza, a multi-billion dollar resort which will open in 2011.

Elvis made his Las Vegas debut at the New Frontier in 1956 in the futuristic new showroom - the Venus Room. From the Western-themed hotel that had opened as the Frontier in 1942, the resort was re-modelled in 1955 and renamed the New Frontier with a décor that encompassed the nations growing curiosity with space travel, featuring planets and flying saucers in the Cloud Nine dining room and celestial chandeliers hovering over the casino, where six alien figures headed towards its entrance.

The Venus Room, where Elvis appeared, was a circular showroom and could seat up to 972 people, who surrounded the revolving stage, but Elvis' appearance did little to excite the stuffy Vegas clientele, when he was used to performing to screaming teenagers. Elvis was reportedly paid $12,500 a week, during an era when headline acts could command double that amount in other resorts.

It was at the New Frontier where agent Bill Miller, who was booking acts for the Dunes at the time, spotted Elvis and is quoted as saying 'Boy, some day I'm going to fire up this guy's career.'

So, at the close of the next decade as the booking agent for Kirk Kerkorian’s International Hotel, Bill Miller booked Elvis for his famed Las Vegas comeback in 1969 and the rest, they say, is history.

Elvis in the 11/4 Mallard Fillmore comic strip.

Mallard Fillmore:

A seasoned, rumpled ex-newspaper reporter, Mallard now works for WFDR-TV in Washington, D.C. The fact that he is a duck doesn't stand out at Channel 3 nearly as much as his unapologetic political viewpoints do. Mallard loves to question his colleagues' more liberal-minded views about current affairs.

He thinks average, hardworking Americans need a break instead of a lecture. Mallard thinks taxes are too high, educational standards are too low, and that the "radicals" of the '60s and '70s now set the establishment's politically correct media agenda. Mallard tells it the way he sees it and he isn't afraid to ruffle feathers to get his point across.

Having Fun With Elvis in Hoogeveen, The Netherlands.

A very nice day, yesterday, November 3th in Hoogeveen, The Netherlands.

An Elvis bazaar with lots and lots of Elvis stuff. Three official Elvis Fan clubs had a lot of fun together. “Elvis For Everyone”, “There’s Always Elvis” and “It’s Elvis Time”. The doors opened to the public at noon.

The paying visitors received a nice cd to take home as a souvenir. Mr. John Weema did his own TCB-ing, by singing for his live audience. Then a nice auction started.

Some Elvis related items were sold to the people (for example: an original concert ticket ’76, Elvis magazine 1956, autograph Lisa Marie Presley).

We’d like to thank Constantijn Zantingh for inviting us, so we could be part of it all.

Mae Boron Axton inducted to Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.

Two of Ada’s legends were honorees for Thursday night’s annual Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame Concert and Induction ceremony. Mother and son, Mae Boren Axton and Hoyt Axton, Ada natives, where honored.

Mae Boren Axton is most famous for writing Elvis Presley’s first No. 1 hit in 1956, “Heartbreak Hotel.” The song became the biggest-selling record of 1956 and eventually earned her a Grammy hall of Fame award in 1995.

Mae Boren Axton is also known for writing other hits, including Patsy Cline’s “Pick Me Up (On Your Way Down)” and “Honey Bop” by Wanda Jackson. She was also influential in fellow Ada native Blake Shelton’s career. Mae Boren Axton told Shelton he might have a chance in Nashville after he performed in a tribute concert in her honor. Mae Boren Axton is also recognizd as an East Central University Distinguished Alumna.

She was the mother of fellow 2007 inductee Hoyt Axton as well as the sister of former Oklahoma Gov. and U.S. Sen. David Boren, who now is serving as president of the University of Oklahoma. Mae Boren Axton died in 1997.

Hoyt Axton enjoyed a wide-ranging succes as both a songwriter and performer. He wrote “Greenback Dollar” for the Kingston Trio and “The Pusher” for Steppenwolf. Hoyt Axton wrote “Never Been to Spain;” Presley also recorded the song. In doing so, Presley recorded songs by mother and son.

Hoyt Axton continued his career writing “Joy to the World” which became a huge hit as performed by Three Dog Night. Hoyt Axton appeared as a character actor in “The Black Stallion” and “Gremlins,” among other films. Hoyt Axton died in 1999.

Other inductees in Thursday night’s ceremony were Sammi Smith, Tommy Crook, Cal Smith and the rock band Hinder. Three Dog Night was to perform a tribute to Hoyt Axton at the post-ceremony concert, along with tributes to other deceased honorees. Hinder was scheduled for an acoustic performance.

Voyage from Star Trek to Lampeter.

Man who produced award winning Elvis documentary.

During the 1960s and '70s, Herb Solow was arguably one of the most influential people in Hollywood.
As a studio chief, he oversaw two of the most successful and enduring shows in TV history - Star Trek and Mission Impossible.

Not only that, but he produced an award-winning documentary about Elvis, and worked with Frank Sinatra and Clint Eastwood, among others.

So it may come as a surprise that he now lives quietly in mid Wales.

The market town of Lampeter, Ceredigion, may be a long way from Captain Kirk's journeys to the far reaches of the universe, but Herb and his wife Harrison seem to love it.

They have lectured part-time at the town's university for the last three years. Mrs Solow works part-time at Trinity College Carmarthen too, but she primarily moved to Lampeter to study a PhD - where she is also learning Welsh and singing in two choirs.

Her husband maintains contact with his previous life as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and is currently reviewing movies for next year's Oscars.

Star Trek remains one of the best-loved series in TV history, but he recalled how worried he had been that - going boldly or not - it would fail to make it to air at all.

He also had to convince creator Gene Roddenberry to alter Mr Spock's original look, which he described as satanic.

"I had been working for the US network NBC and was offered a job at the Desilu Studios (later to become part of Paramount) which was owned by TV star Lucille Ball and her husband Desi Arnaz," said Solow.

"I was keen to start making programmes for the studio and put the word out that I was looking for ideas.

"I was soon approached by Bruce Geller, who I made Mission Impossible with, and it was a huge hit around the world.

"But Star Trek was a slightly different story. I was approached by this softly-spoken Texan who was nervous, sweating and was holding a crumpled piece of paper. This man was Gene Roddenberry.

"On the crumpled piece of paper he had the outline of a story which was to become Star Trek.

"He wanted to create a new version of Buck Rogers, but we had to change a few things. Initially, Gene had Spock with a red face, pointed ears and a tail, and he looked just like Satan."

A pilot made in the mid-1960s was mauled by the critics. A second with a new cast, apart from Leonard Nimoy as Spock, led to a three-series run between 1966-69.

By then Solow had quit Paramount to become MGM's vice-president of worldwide TV and motion picture production.

He also headed MGM's studio in California and its set-up at Borehamwood in England.

This led to work with legendary British director David Lean on the Oscar-winning Ryan's Daughter, and at around the same time he also worked with two 20th Century icons in Sinatra and Elvis.

Solow commissioned the comedy western, Dirty Dingus Magee, starring Sinatra.

"I found Frank Sinatra to be a very pleasant and professional performer," said Solow.

"Frank always turned up on time and knew exactly what he had to do, he didn't interfere and just got on with it."

Solow was called on next to produce the documentary Elvis: That's The Way It Is.

"Just like Sinatra, he was an absolute delight. He had stopped performing for a bit and the documentary showed him on the comeback trail and finally ended up with him performing in Las Vegas.

"Everybody loved Elvis - that's the way it was."

Solow was also responsible for commissioning the WWII comedy caper Kelly's Heroes, which starred Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas and Donald Sutherland.

"I've enjoyed my life and I've worked with some great people. On Star Trek there was DeForest Kelley (Dr McCoy), who was a lovely guy.

"Leonard Nimoy is devoid of any ego and remains a close personal friend, and so does George Takei (who played Sulu in Star Trek)."

As for his work at Lampeter University, his lectures focus on Jewish/American influences in Hollywood, a topic close to his heart as he is descended from a Russian/Jewish family.

CD High Sierra Fever Out Now!

This new import Cd High Sierra Fever is from Lake Tahoe, May 7th, 1973 Midnight show as taken from an excellent quality audience source. Compared to the January/February 1973 Las Vegas shows, Elvis was in better voice in Lake Tahoe, and his shows were more engaged and playful again.

This concert includes classy performances of "Steamroller Blues", "You Gave Me A Mountain", "I'm Leavin' ", "What Now My Love", "I'll Remember You", "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "A Big Hunk O'Love". As a bonus, an excerpt of "Surrender" and the seldom performed "It's Over", recorded during the Midnight Show the previous day were added. Both mastertapes were recorded by the same person, and they are of equal sound-quality. This recording comes from a 1st generation copy of the original tape. As you’ve come to expect from us, the sound was restored in a renowned studio to achieve the best possible results. And it's not necessary to emphasize another Straight Arrow label tradition – this new CD comes in a deluxe package with a 16-page booklet, containing a collection of live- and candid photographs from April, May and June 1973, rare Lake Tahoe memorabilia, informative liner notes as well as details about Elvis' Lake Tahoe 1973 season.

Ernest Young thinks he is Elvis’ son.

Ernest Young, or Jason Presley as he believes he is called, claims he is the 50-year-old son of Elvis Presley.

In a court hearing yesterday, he was sentenced to jail after years of threatening Graceland and several judges in his efforts to claim $700 million from the Estate – what he believes he is entitled to as his heir.

Not Surprisingly the Estate did not take any notice of his demands, so he started to pester several judges, accusing Graceland of criminal acts that included rape, murder and extortion.

The charge of retaliation against a judge earned him sentance a of zero to five years for a third-degree felony, but having already served 520 days in jail, he may be released on probation with mental health supervision.

GMA GOSPEL MUSIC HALL OF FAME TO INDUCT PHIL KEAGGY, STATLER BROTHERS LARNELLE HARRIS, THE WINANS AND JOE MOSCHEO.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - September 13, 2007 - The GMA Foundation (GMAF) will induct artists Phil Keaggy, the Statler Brothers, Larnelle Harris and The Winans along with former music executive Joe Moscheo, announced John W. Styll, president and CEO of the GMAF.

"This year’s class of GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductees are each unique in their significant contributions to the heritage and diversity of gospel music, but together share a legacy of creating redemptive music that has inspired music audiences for decades,” said Styll.

The GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner will be held at the Richland Country Club in Nashville on Monday, Oct. 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available to the general public.

The GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame was established in 1971 and has inducted more than 140 members since its inception, including Elvis Presley, Mahalia Jackson, Keith Green, Amy Grant, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Andrae Crouch, Sandi Patty, Vestal Goodman, Tennessee Ernie Ford, 2nd Chapter of Acts, The Oak Ridge Boys, Petra, Bill and Gloria Gaither, the Rambos, Evie, Richard Smallwood, Jake Hess, The Lewis Family, Thomas A. Dorsey, the Fairfield Four, Billy Graham and the Jordanaires.

Phil Keaggy has been a beloved artist and musician in Christian music for over two decades. Born and raised in Ohio in a Catholic family of 10, Keaggy always loved music and spent hours listening to singers like Elvis Presley and Johnny Ray. His first guitar was a late-'50s Gretsch Anniversary model; at age ten his father bought him a Sears Silvertone, and by the end of fifth grade, he was playing in front of his entire school. He and his longtime friend, drummer John Sferra, founded Glass Harp in the late '60s when Keaggy was still in high school. They became known as one of the most innovative power trios around, even though they only made four albums for Decca Records, Glass Harp earned a devoted fan base, thanks in great part to Keaggy's lightning-fast guitar riffs and experimental sounds. At their pinnacle, Glass Harp was opening for such major acts as Iron Butterfly, Yes, Traffic and Chicago. He left Glass Harp in 1972 and the following year recorded his first solo album, What a Day. His first instrumental project, The Master and the Musician was released in 1978. Keaggy has released well over 45 albums earning critical acclaim for both his virtuosity on guitar and his songwriting, which ranges from Beatles’ pop to more subtle instrumentals. Over the years, Keaggy has shared in the music ministries of artists such as Love Song, Paul Clark, Randy Stonehill, Barry McGuire, Honeytree and others who were pioneers in the Christian music movement.

Few names are as synonymous with inspirational Christian music as Larnelle Harris. Admired by fans and peers alike for his majestic tenor voice, Harris has enjoyed a career that spans over three decades. Before becoming a soloist, Harris toured with the gospel group The Spurlows and was a member of the Gaither Vocal Band. Honored with five Grammy Awards, 11 Dove Awards including three Male Vocalist of the Year honors, a Stellar Award and numerous other accolades, Harris has garnered 19 No. 1 radio singles and many of his songs such as "How Excellent Is Thy Name," "I Miss My Time With You," "I've Just Seen Jesus" and his signature song, "Amen," are considered modern classics. From the White House to the danger zone of the 38th Parallel, Harris has impacted audiences across the globe with his music and ministry. He was the first Christian artist to perform inside the Kremlin after the fall of the Soviet Union. He is one of a handful of celebrities to receive the Ad Council's Silver Bell Award for Distinguished Public Service in recognition of his song "Mighty Spirit" as the theme song for the longest-running Public Service Announcement in television history. Still a sought-after vocalist for special events and ceremonies, Larnelle also continues to perform 75-100 solo concerts for churches and Christian organizations worldwide each year. Wowing crowds with a voice that still soars with both soulfulness and tenderness, Harris continues to receive rave reviews for his performances.

The Statler Brothers - Harold Reid, Phil Balsley, Jimmy Fortune and Don Reid - was the premier group in country music for nearly 40 years. Starting out in 1964 as backup for Johnny Cash on stage, record and TV, they served their apprenticeship with him for nearly nine years. During that time they recorded their first hit record, "Flowers on the Wall", and were regulars on the weekly "Johnny Cash Show" on ABC. Leaving the Cash troupe in 1972, they continued with such hit songs as "Bed of Rose's", "Class of '57" and "I'll Go to My Grave Loving You." Their original harmonies, sense of humor and lyrical style of writing highlighted a career that led them to the top of the music charts countless times and to a concert touring success that packed arenas and theaters with every performance. They have also appeared at the White House a total of five times. Their award winning (Grammys, CMAs, Gold and Platinum records and etc.) is legendary and they are considered to be the most honored of any act in the country music field. The '90s saw them starring in their own television series, "The Statler Brothers Show," on TNN (The Nashville Network) for seven years and remaining the number one show on the network its entire run. Deciding to retire from a lifetime of traveling and enjoy the good life in their homes in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, they gave their farewell concert in the fall of 2002. Although no longer touring, the group remained active, releasing a new gospel album, Amen, on Crossroads Records and following it in 2003 with a CD/DVD of their final show. In 2006, Mercury Records released Favorites, a 12-song compilation handpicked by the band's remaining members.

The Winans, a contemporary gospel music group was formed by four brothers, from Detroit. The family has additionally produced two well-known solo/duo gospel performers, BeBe and CeCe Winans. After having sung in gospel choirs all their lives brothers Marvin, Carvin, Ronald and Michael Winans, began their professional career in the early '80s, following in the footsteps of their siblings BeBe & CeCe but forging their own successful career. The brothers were first discovered by Andraé Crouch, who signed them to Light Records with their first record, Introducing The Winans, released in 1981. The group always stayed close to their gospel roots but created a more urban contemporary sound that drew mainstream attention from leading R&B artists such as Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Anita Baker and Michael McDonald and resulting in their signing a record deal with Quincy Jones’ label Qwest Albums in the early '90s. After two successful R&B charting albums All Out and Return, which featured the hit single "It's Time" which was produced by Teddy Riley (who also rapped on the song). In 1995 the Winans returned to their trademark gospel with Heart & Soul. The group took a break after this album to pursue personal endeavors and reunited in 2000 to release a holiday album, Christmas: Our Gifts to You. In 2002, Rhino Records released The Very Best of The Winans and the whole Winans family, not just the group itself, went on tour together making it the first time in a decade all the family members had performed together.

Few people associated with gospel music have had such a diverse and long-standing impact on the industry as Joe Moscheo. His career, which stretches over four decades, has run the gamut from musician to manager to songwriter to producer to author, putting Moscheo in a category all of his own. In 1964 Moscheo joined The Imperials as a singer, keyboard player and arranger. Throughout a very successful career, they worked with the likes of Elvis Presley, Jimmy Dean, Roy Clark, Carol Channing and Pat Boone and Moscheo wrote gospel songs recorded by many different gospel groups. His musical accomplishments earned him multiple Grammy and Dove Awards. In 1978, Moscheo joined the business of music at BMI where he served as Vice President of Special Projects. After a 16-year stint at BMI, he formed his own management company, working with such notable recording artists as BeBe & CeCe Winans, Michael English, Wynonna and Naomi Judd. In 1996 Moscheo launched the Entertainment/Music Division for Nashville’s First Union Bank, and served there for nearly a decade before joining MCS America, Inc., where he oversaw the U.S. operations of this London-based company, and was later made President in 2004. Moscheo was a member of the founding council of Leadership Music. He has served as a past president and trustee of the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). He was also a board member (and past president) of the W.O. Smith / Nashville Community Music School. Moscheo is also a past president and permanent board member of the Gospel Music Association. In 2007, Moscheo published his first best-selling book remembering his years with Elvis Presley, The Gospel Side of Elvis.
