4 extra tracks on original 'On Stage' LP?

Was the 1970 album 'On Stage' supposed to have 4 extra tracks? One would think so, now that an original acetate of this record has shown up on eBay, with 4 extra tracks.

It is not clear why these tracks didn't make the album, nor why exactly these titles were picked.

From the item description:

"The word "rare" gets used a lot when people are selling Elvis items, but I think this one qualifies.

It is a metal acetate for Elvis "On Stage" album. This particular acetate however has 4 tracks that were not released on the final version of the LP.

The photos are hard to read so the unreleased tracks are as follows:

"Polk Salad Annie" alternate take

"I Got A Woman"

"Kentucky Rain"

"Don't Cry Daddy"

There were not many acetates made and even fewer survived. This is the first piece in a huge 30 year collection to go on the block."

$1-Million Dispute over Final Elvis Photo.

Once again doing the news circuit is the battle over the final National Enquirer photo of Elvis. Supposedly a "million-dollar battle" it is suggested that it has erupted into a courtroom dispute.

The photo of Elvis lying in his casket at Graceland published in the National Enquirer in 1977 may have been destroyed during the anthrax contamination of the gossip magazine's former headquarters in Boca Raton.

The man who bought the American Media Inc. building in Boca Raton in 2003 while it was still sealed and quarantined, David Rustine, has filed a federal lawsuit against the company he hired to decontaminate the building, New York-based Sabre Technical Services.

However, two weeks before their contract was up, Rustine's lawsuit claims, Sabre demanded more time to finish the job and threatened to 'lose the Elvis photo' if the contract wasn't extended. Rustine refused and filed suit. Sabre's President countersued for defamation and claimed that AMI advised that all the Enquirer photos be destroyed as part of the anthrax cleansing process.

There's even a picture in the court file of a Sabre worker holding the Elvis photo during a shredding operation. In his lawsuit, Rustine has demanded the return of the Elvis picture or be paid what he says the picture is worth, $1-million.

The coffin photo was taken by Elvis' cousin Billy Mann.

The Elvinator: One Man's Quest to Merge Singing Elvis Robot with Terminator Killing Machine.

I thought I had seen the last of the WowWee singing Elvis robot last summer when Wilson skinned the thing and gave me nightmares. I was wrong. Instructables user GW Jax has put his Elvinator on display, which combines "The King" with T101, the king of death.

The Elvinator is only part done, as GW Jax has only given the skin a burned/melted look, and outfitted the Elvinator with an LED eye. But he plans to add in a Jaw piston for custom mouth movements, give the bot custom phrases, and endow it with interactive abilities, such as voice recognition and the ability to "learn." Looks pretty damn cool.

Las Vegas fan club will have star its way.

A local Elvis fan club isn't feeling a whole lot of love from the Elvis Presley Estate. The cold shoulder includes efforts to obtain a donation for Elvis' celebrity star on Las Vegas Boulevard and silence as far as offering input on where to install the star.

Letters were sent to everyone from Robert Sillerman, who purchased 85 percent of Elvis Presley Enterprises in 2004 for $114 million, to Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley.

"We have heard nothing in response," said Sue Laurenz, head of the Viva Las Vegas Club, the fundraising force behind getting Elvis a star. The club has about $13,000 of the required $15,000. "We're moving on. The fans have made it happen, and it's all fan money," said Laurenz, adding that she's seen donations as small as $2 and $5. The Las Vegas Walk of Stars announced last week that Elvis' star will go in front of the Riviera on Sept. 26, the 27th star on the Strip.

As for the oft-asked question: Why the Riviera?

The Riviera, Laurenz noted, is the closest casino property to the Hilton (then The International), where Elvis was a sensation from 1969 to 1977. She added that the county gave authorization to the Walk of Stars only along Las Vegas Boulevard. "For what it's worth, Elvis was with Liberace in November 1956 at the Riv when those famous photographs were taken of the switched jackets and instruments," Laurenz said. Stars for Sammy Davis Jr. and Liberace are in front of the Riv, "and I do believe Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin will be there, too. Elvis will be among his friends, and that is pretty special."

The Shell Reopens!

Now known as the Levitt Shell at Overton Park will kick off it's inaugural five week season begining September 4th with special guest, Amy LaVere. The 5 week season will continue every Thursday through Sunday. There will be two shows on Saturday including a concert for kids. This will continue until October 5th. The second season will begin in May of 2009. Again lasting a 5 week span.

"I don't think anybody was able to put together a clean enough package to get the city to sign on the dotted line for a lease," says Chip Pankey, executive director of Friends of the Levitt Shell and the man responsible for the operation of the new facility. "Save Our Shell was an incredible organization, but they couldn't get the major funding."

"Memphis, for me, was a cold call," says Hirsch. "But when I saw that Shell, my heart skipped a beat. It was perfect for what we do. We knew we had to be part of it. ... We saw the Shell as a beauty that had been ignored. It needed a lot of love, and we wanted to provide that love." said Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch, the foundation's vice president.

"We want to be a community venue as opposed to a tourist venue," says Pankey.

"We've had to navigate that issue of Memphis music. We're not here just to promote Stax or Elvis -- though that's a part of our legacy and history. But really we want to focus on contemporary music and the diversity of that music. In a given 50-concert season, 25 of our acts will be local, another 25 will be national," says Pankey.

It's great to see the Shell will continue on and not be torn down as are many historically important Elvis sites.

WHY MEXICANS HATED ELVIS!

May 1959: While Elvis Presley's popularity in the U.S. was arguably at its all-time peak, Mexico was in the midst of a huge anti-Elvis backlash.

Tijuana tabloids called him a racist and homosexual, after the singer reportedly told gossip columnist Federico de León "I'd rather kiss three black girls than a Mexican." A Mexican woman in the same column was quoted saying "I'd rather kiss three dogs than one Elvis Presley."

Mexican Radio Exitos read de León's column over the air and spearheaded a boycott of the "insolent artist," while the powerful student group Federación Estudiantil Universitaria (FEU) held public record burnings.

When Elvis' movie King Creole screened in May 1959 at the Américas Cinema in Mexico City, newspapers who'd advertised the film under the title Melodía Siniestra (Sinister Melody) reported a "riot" occurring.

Mexican counterculture novelist Parménides García Saldaña wrote a short story, "El rey criollo," about the screening where several hundred gatecrashers reportedly shredded the seats and threw lit papers onto patrons from the balcony.

"Before the film began," wrote Saldaña, "it was pure chaos, a f-ing riot as they say more vulgarly. The different gangs shouted ‘Here the Guerrero [neighborhood],' ‘Here the Roma' ...And then some chicks come in with leather jackets with swastikas painted on them, pony tails and bobby socks, real rock and roller like...a group of guys gang up around them [and shout] "‘Dance!'"

Mexican reporters suggested Elvis' hip-wiggling and mannerisms proved he was either maricón (homosexual) or actually a woman in reverse-drag.

The movie Los chiflados del rock'n roll, a musical spoof, was promoted with posters showing Elvis in drag, being shot by rifle-toting men in sombreros, under a banner reading "Die Elvis Presley!"

The book "Refried Elvis: The Rise of the Mexican Counterculture" (Berkeley: University of California Press, c1999) claims the original Elvis quote was fabricated. According to author Eric Zolov, "Herbe Pompeyo of Polygram Records in Mexico City claims that a high-up Mexican political figure wanted to contract Presley for a private party, for which he sent the performer a blank check to fill in as he wished. Presley, according to the story, returned the blank check, so the politico, extremely offended, invented the storyline about Elvis not liking Mexican women."

Who could have imagined that, four decades later, Mexico would be producing more Elvis velvet paintings than any other region in the world...

...not to mention giving us "El Vez, the Mexican Elvis...."

Reaction from Raised on Rock - TCB:

Well what it is known among Elvis fans here in Mexico these days is that that rumor was started not here but in the U.S. by one more gossip Mag that wanted to put down Elvis (whatever the reasons) by the late 50's, now Presley could have not said that, as it is known today that he didn´t even was at the town were he suposedly said that.

Now by the late 50's Elvis Presley was loved and hated in Mexico, same percentage as he was loved and hated in his native country or any other part of the world. Today, Presley is both worshiped and mocked here, and everything in between, as same as in the U.S. or any other country. It is retarded to believe that a whole country hates one singer by some fake rumor isn´t it?

Sure, back in the 50's Presley public records burnings happened here, elder people was shocked by his stage antics, and lots of religious right movements and people in the media wanted him banned in the country, he was conceived as a bad influence by many, but these was no diferent from any other part in the world, Memphis included. So of course when that nasty rumor started to circulate around here, it was pushed by the anti Elvis establishment and used as an another excuse to put him down, now I guess as ever some people swallow it, but the diehard fans, that huge mass of rock and rollers and teenage girls that were Elvis crazy, knew it was bullshit, and they still loved him, those are now the older fans of these days. It was well known among Elvis fans clubs that the rumor was a total fake since the 50's.

Now about that Herbe Pompeyo of Polygram Records in Mexico City, claiming that a high-up Mexican political figure wanted to contract Presley for a private party: total carp. That guy was a well know disc jockey here in Mexico City back in the 60's, 70's and 80's, not of my liking I might say, the guy is full of sh... one more of those rumor promoting guys just to boost their bad radio shows, the guys knows nothing, and altough he is an Elvis fan, he´s just one of those guys that even claim they meet Elvis once to promote themselves, a total looser.

At last, when King Creole was premiered here in Mexcio in '59 a huge riot happened, but that has nothing to do with the anti-Elvis people, that riot was nothing but a display of a the mass histeria that might be known as the ELVIS-MANIA, a big bunch of girls going crazy, that boosted up with some hooligan rock and rollers going wild, trashing out the cinema just for kicks while Presley did Trouble. Well I guess some elder people didn´t liked that much.

National Enquirer picture of Elvis Presley in open casket shredded during anthrax decontamination.

BOCA RATON — The original photo of the famous National Enquirer picture of Elvis Presley lying in his open casket was shredded during a six-year anthrax decontamination effort on the tabloid's former Boca Raton headquarters, according to the newest twist in a federal lawsuit.

The front-page photo, which sold a whopping 6.5 million copies in 1977, is the center of a dispute between Boca Raton developer David Rustine, who bought the contaminated building at a bargain-basement price in 2003 while it was still sealed and quarantined, and John Y. Mason, whose company, Sabre, was hired to decontaminate it.

In a lawsuit filed in May, Rustine, who values the photo at $1 million, said Mason held the photo hostage in a dispute between the two over the cleaning. Rustine wants him to return the image or pay for it.

The photo is part of rock history. For years, it fueled fan-frenzied stories that "The King" was not dead, that it was all a hoax because the man in the photo didn't look like their iconic rock daddy with attitude. But a 2004 tell-all book by former Enquirer editor Iain Calder laid to rest some rumors when he spilled that the paper paid one of Presley's cousins $18,000 to secretly take the snapshot of the really dead King.

In October 2001, former Enquirer photo editor Bob Stevens opened a letter containing weapons-grade anthrax spores that killed him and contaminated the building owned by Enquirer parent American Media Inc. The attack has never been solved.

In 2003, Rustine's company, Broken Sound LLC, bought the building once valued at $10 million for $40,000 from AMI. In December 2003, Rustine's Broken Sound and Mason's Sabre entered an agreement to clean and decontaminate the building.

On May 17 or 18, 2005, Rustine alleged Mason said "he would lose the Elvis photo" if the decontamination contract were not extended past a May 31, 2005, deadline.

Mason's countersuit, filed Friday, said Rustine doesn't even own the photo. He said AMI still owns the rights to that photo and millions of other celebrity photos that were contaminated and entombed in the building.

Mason said that AMI's rights to photos and documents in the building were recognized in the decontamination agreement.

According to Mason's countersuit, Sabre began destroying documents and photos in February 2004 at the direction of AMI in-house counsel Daniel Rotstein.

Mason's Sabre argues that it was ordered to destroy all documents and photos until a late 2004 agreement but that by then the Elvis photo was in ribbons.

In the lawsuit, Mason also accuses Rustine of defamation saying he "never threatened to steal or to otherwise withhold the Elvis photos" from Rustine or Broken Sound.

Today in Weird: Velvet Elvis.

Elvis enthusiasts unite.

Tonight local artist Bethany Cisco, otherwise known as “Vicious Velvet,” will unveil her latest work: a giant painting of Elvis on velvet. Once they pull the sheet off this baby it will supposedly be the largest velvet painting ever created.

This got us thinking, considering we never realized velvet paintings existed in the first place. But not only do they exist, apparently it's your patriotic duty to own one that prominently features the president's package.

We also learned that velvet Elvis paintings are quite popular. Considering this one trumps them all in size, we guess it could be considered “the King.” Wah wah waaaaaah.

Cyndi Lauper Celebrates Elvis Style!

June 22 marked Cyndi Lauper's 55th birthday. While in Dallas to promote her latest CD, Bring Ya To The Brink, and performing with the b-52's and Joan Jett, she checked into the Stoneleigh Hotel.

Elvis Presley himself stayed at this hotel among various other celebrities such as Bob Hope, Andy Warhol, and Judy Garland. The hotel now has 9 tribute themed suites including the Elvis Presley Suite.

Cyndi checked herself into the Elvis Presley suite and her band threw her a small birthday party in that very suite fit for the king himself!

Lisa Marie Presley and Cyndi are also friends. In September of last year, they dined together in Lauper's native NYC at the Waverly Inn in the west village.

Then in November, Lisa presented Cyndi with the "Makin A Difference" award for human rights on behalf of the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

Maybe a future musical collaboration could be on the horizon?

Tractor Featured in 'Loving You' Still Around.

Elvis still lives on.

If I've learned nothing else, I've learned this: Raise the subject of Elvis Presley, there will be no end to it.

On April 11 and 25, I wrote about a Presley photo showing the King with my late father-in-law, who had worked at a Dallas radio station in the 1950s. When I asked if readers might have their own Elvis pictures, I should have expected the flood that came. I should have said, "Don't Be Cruel." As much as I appreciated the enthusiasm, I couldn't keep up with all the Elvis e-mail coming from here to Italy and back again.

At risk of stirring it up again, I'll share one more scrap of Presley correspondence. Mike Cockrum, 52, of Marysville has a novel Elvis collectible. His grandparents, the late Homer and Georgia Cockrum, owned a ranch in California's San Fernando Valley where the 1957 Presley movie "Loving You" was filmed.

He doesn't have a guitar or a piece of Presley clothing, no. Cockrum owns an old tractor seen in the movie. It's still in California. His e-mail said: "Here are a couple of pictures of Elvis with the tractor in the background, and a couple of the tractor as it is today."

Sure enough, same tractor. What a thing to have.

"Elvis was there about four days," Cockrum said. His grandparents told him the King was polite, "but after the film crew left, the place was such a mess they vowed never to do it again."

He hopes to move the tractor and store it in Idaho.

Too bad. Couldn't Marysville use a rusty old Elvis tourist attraction? Don't answer that.

Elvis fan builds gala Graceland.

Walter Gibb built a three-dimensional timber replica of Graceland

An Elvis Presley fan from Grangemouth has converted his house into Graceland for his local gala day.

It took Walter Gibb and his family 11 weeks to make the three-dimensional timber replica of Elvis's Memphis home.

The 46-year-old, whose daughter Robyn is a maid of honour in the Grangemouth Children's Gala, said he wanted to do "something a wee bit special".

Mr Gibb said he wanted to raise the profile of the gala day which has been under threat in recent years.

"Rather than doing a Disney or a cartoon character theme, which a lot of children do and which is lovely, we decided to go for something different this year," he said.

His daughter shares his passion for the "king of rock 'n' roll" and she suggested the Graceland theme.

Mr Gibb said: "None of us had been there before so off the internet we got pictures of Graceland and we recreated it out of timber in a three-dimensional effect.

"Rather than just doing a flat screen and painting it, we decided to look into it seriously and try to create it as close as we could."

A neighbour's house shows what it looked like before the transformation.

The front two gables, the sides and the roof of Mr Gibb's modern home are now covered by a timber copy of the American "colonial" style mansion.

Mr Gibb would not say how much it cost but it was "not as much as you might think".

"I am not a rich man", he added.

He said that at least 10 family members and friends gave their construction skills for free, keeping the costs down.

"A lot of people say that for one day it is a lot of effort but we feel we want to put the gala day on the map because there are rumours that it is not doing very well," he said.

Mr Gibb said that other gala days in the area were no longer running because of lack of money and he thought it was important for the community that Grangemouth retained its special day.

He set up a replica Elvis and a wishing well at the gates to the mansion to collect donations.

As the home of Scotland's petro-chemical industry, the massive companies which operate out of Grangemouth should be paying more back into the community, Mr Gibb added

"We don't want to see the gala day fail because it has been around for 100 years," he said.

"With the industry we have in Grangemouth I don't see why it should fail because at the end of the day they pollute our skies and they should give something back."

Elvis’ Secret Diary Found - The King’s Innermost Thoughts and Feelings … in His Own Words.

Presley kept a private journal for more than 20 years - and never told anyone about it

A college professor claims to have found Elvis Presley’s secret diaries in a box of used books that he purchased in Memphis, Tennessee just weeks ago.

The volumes allegedly span the years 1956 to 1977, with the last comments having been entered just hours before The King died.

“They’re authentic, I guarantee it,” the scholar told derekclontz.com in a taped, world-exclusive interview. “There are seven volumes containing entries that begin November 16, 1956 and end August 16, 1977.

“The diaries appear to reveal Mr. Presley’s innermost thoughts and feelings about life, friends and his career. To the best of my knowledge nobody, not even the people closest to Elvis, knew these diaries existed.

“At least they didn’t know, until now.”

The professor revealed that he was in possession of The King’s secret diaries in an e-mail to derekclontz.com editor-in-chief Derek Clontz on Monday, June 16. He refused to identify himself or name the city he was calling from.

He did say that he teaches English literature in Mississippi. He also confirmed that he found the diaries at the bottom of a box of old novels he bought on April 15 of this year.

“It isn’t clear how to diaries got into the box, and without seeing them there is no way for me to verify their authenticity,” says Clontz, who has written over 200 articles on Presley since 1982 and is considered to be an expert on his death or, as fans who believe him to be alive would say, “his faked death.”

“But the academic who claims to have them in his possession says two handwriting experts, both from the Mississippi’s state university system, studied the diaries and concluded that they were, in fact, written by Elvis Presley’s own hand. True - or false? I’m keeping an open mind.

“Our readers can judge for themselves.”

The professor agreed to read portions of the diaries to derekclontz.com so he can gauge public reaction prior to publishing them in their entirety next Christmas.

“I can’t put a price on the diaries until I see how the public responds to them,” he said, “and that’s why I’m giving portions of them to you for publication on the Internet. I invite your readers to respond through you.

“I want to know what they think.”

The professor read 20 entries from The King’s alleged diaries over the phone. They were taped and printed below - verbatim, with no corrections or changes - just as we received them.

1950s

November 16, 1956

Met Liberace today and that man is funny. I mean real funny. He’s a showman but I don’t know what I could learn from him. He’s nice but he’s prissy. And the woman who like him are old.

March 30, 1957

Graceland is perfect. Thirteen rooms and we’re going to make it bigger and better. I knew Mama would find the right place. She loves it and so do I. Look out the windows and it just seems to spread out forever. The whole family is here and there’s room for all of us.

We’re going to fix it up just like we want. I wish I could see their faces now. They said I was nobody. Now nobody is somebody and they’re going to know it.

August 14, 1958

Where are you, Mama? I know you’re here. You’re not dead. You can’t be dead. You can’t leave me, Mama. You said you’d never leave me. You promised. I’m not ready. Mama, I’m scared.

June 28, 1959

I slipped and almost killed myself in the shower this morning. Now wouldn’t it be hell to die in a bathroom? Ha, Ha.

1960s

February 17, 1960

I wonder what the girls would think if I did marry them, even for a day? What would they think about Elvis Presley. They might not like who I really am. I’m not sure that I do. Elvis knows who he is. So who is Elvis? Mama know, don’t you, Mama? Damn it. Damn it. Why did you leave me? Don’t you know what I feel like? Don’t you? I do and it stinks. One of these days something’s going to give. I just wish I knew when.

June 15, 1961

Wild in the Country premiered today and it’s worse than I thought. It stinks and I’m embarrassed to say it’s my movie. When are they going to let me make a real movie? The Colonel [Editor: Tom Parker, Elvis’ manager] and Mr. Wallis [Hal Wallis, producer of numerous Elvis films] must know what they’re doing because people pay to see me no matter how bad the movies are.

I’m as good as James Dean. I know I am. Maybe The Colonel and Mr. Wallis will let me make a karate movie. It couldn’t be any worse than what I’m doing now. It might be fun. Maybe I could talk them into getting Debra Paget [Elvis’ costar in the 1956 movie Love Me Tender] to be in with me. I’d like to work with her again.

May 14, 1962

I miss you, Mama, but we’ll be together again. I promise.

August 28, 1965

The Beatles are O.K. I don’t know why John [Lennon] was so nervous [when Elvis and the Beatle met]. What did he think I was going to do, bite him? He said I inspired him. We played and sang some but we’d never make it on one stage. I’m a show. The Beatles are just a band.

[The Beatles - John, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr - considered Elvis to be a pioneer of rock music and finally met him face-to-face at his home in Bel-Air, in California, in 1965. Rumors that they recorded a few songs during the meeting are often heard but have never been confirmed.]

September 3, 1965

I don’t care what they say. I like guns. And there ain’t nothing like blowing the screen out of a TV.

February 1, 1968

Lisa Marie is so beautiful I’m afraid to touch her. But when I hold her I can’t describe it. I feel like a king.

January 21, 1969

In the Ghetto is a beautiful song but I wonder if it will make a difference? There’s so much pain and misery in the world. I hope it does.

1970s

December 21, 1970

President Nixon has got to let me help the country. Damn drugs. Damn hippies and traitors. They’re killing us. They’re killing our country. The President has got to listen. I don’t have enemies. Nobody would know what I was doing if he made me a federal agent. I hope he does something before it’s too late.

November 15, 1971

I realized I was daydreaming on stage. Daydreaming … I started singing and the next thing I knew I was taking a bow. I must be getting old. I don’t know … maybe I’m getting bored.

November 16, 1971

Day after day, city after city, show after show. The fans are all over me. I can’t go anywhere or do anything without a screaming mob on my heels. Right now I don’t know if I love them or hate them. If I had control it would be easy but I don’t and it seems like I’d get used to it. My like isn’t mine anymore. It never will be. And it’s too late to turn back now.

April 27, 1973

Should I cut my sideburns? I wonder what the girls would say? I wonder what The Colonel would say? I wonder what I’d say after they went down the drain?

March 26, 1973

I wouldn’t know what to do with the answers, if I had them. Sometimes I think I’d be a lot better off driving a truck.

August 27, 1974

If I have to kiss one more fat girl I’ll puke. Where the hell are my pills?

June 20, 1977

Why do I bother to go on? I’m not a kid anymore. Nothing’s the same. What the hell am I supposed to do? I’m tired and I’m fat. I make myself sick. Fat pig Elvis. I know God’s testing me. My life is in His hands. I wish you were here, Mama. No, I don’t, I wish I was there. I don’t want these damn pills, but I’ve got to have them. I’ve got to get some sleep.

August 15, 1977

It won’t be long now, Mama. I’m coming home.

August 16, 1977

I can’t go on.

Graceland Tour DVD - 2008.

Review Graceland Tour DVD - 2008 written by Elvismatters.

The previous edition of the official Graceland tour DVD was produced in 2000.

Even in a house where nobody lives any more, things can change in eight year: time for a revamped version. We’ve watched this DVD in premiere and must say that it is an absolute must-have.

While the old release came out on one disc with a total running time of 60 min., we now have 2 discs with over 140 min. The quality of the footage is crystal clear and the soundtrack is mixed in the high quality 5.1 Dolby Digital format.

When we visit the music room, we hear a moving instrumental version of ‘How Great Thou Art’ and when the narrator tells about the passing of Elvis’ mother, we hear an emotional female voice humming ‘Amazing Grace’ through the back speakers.

The documentary starts with a technical gimmick: a collage of famous pictures are rendered in 3D so it looks like they are ‘moving’. It’s hard to explain in words, but the effect looks awesome!

Before we enter the mansion, there is some pre-history of Graceland and Elvis’ rise to stardom. The guided tour in the house is combined with footage from important moments in Elvis’ life.

When the front door closes behind us, the camera looks upstairs – the forbidden area for visitors. EPE is well aware that fans are anxious to know more about the second floor.

Eventually, we see a shot from the top of the stairs, ending at a closed door…what follows is a nice 3D animation of the second floor, made from the blue prints. We got a virtual look upstairs in all the rooms and learn about their function.

Each room that is open to the public is narrated in detail. We see different views from angles that you don’t have as a visitor. This gives us some interesting surprises: under the table in the dining room is a buzzer at Elvis seat, so he could call somebody from the kitchen in complete discretion. In one of the kitchen drawers, we get a look of the acts of Lisa-Marie as a child: she carved her name in the wood.

The items that are on the night stand next to Gladys bed are from her purse, at the time she passed away and the lamp above the pool table is broken from behind due to a ‘lost’ billiard bal. Such facts are spread all over the DVD, together with never before seen pictures of various interiors during the years.

After we have visited the mansion, we go back to the foyer to have a quick look at the rooms during Christmas time. We leave the house for a while for a brief overlook of the car museum and the two planes and go back to the trophy room and the racquetball building where we can see the complete second floor for the first time with the dressing room, Jacuzzi and bath room.

Whenever you bring a visit to the Meditation Garden, Elvis’ grave site is always covered with lots of flowers, cards and souvenirs. It’s a strange sight in these shots when you see that the lawn is completely empty and there is only one white rose on each grave.

The documentary ends with an overview of the activities around Graceland and Elvis after 1977 with emotional footage of the Candlelight Vigil.

The second disc contains over 60 min of bonus footage in 4 chapters.

Graceland in the Snow (15:24)

Footage from January 1958 with Graceland under a large coat of snow. This is the known footage of Elvis’ parents walking around in the snow and driving around in the pink Caddy. This time, the footage is complete.

A Fan’s Home Movies of Elvis (19:35)

Some of these shots are included on various DVDs (Elvis during horseback riding, talking with the fans at the gates …), but know collected in its total. The footage was shot by one fan and donated to Graceland. Filmed between 1968 and 1970.

‘Home from The Army’ Press Conference (16:04)

The famous press conference from March 7, 1960 when Elvis returned back from the army.

‘Graceland Archives’ (14:13)

Probably the most interesting item on this disc is this extended tour of the Graceland Archives by Angie Marchese, director of archives. In the past, we had some sneak peeks in this building, but it’s always interesting and fascinating to see the lady with the white gloves opening another box full of surprises.

Once again, this proves that there are still hundreds of documents and pictures in the archives that are never seen by fans. We can see the blue prints for a recording studio that was never build, the plan was cancelled and the racquetball building was build on the location.

Another large box is stuffed with items that the Presley’s took with them when they moved from Tupelo, we see a postcard from Vernon that he wrote to his wife and son when he was in jail. Probably each fan will want to take a look in the files with documents for the preparation of the august 1977 tour…the tour that never was…

The production of this DVD was the last project that Todd Morgan was working on before he passed away. This DVD is dedicated to his memory. With this item, Todd leaves a great legacy to all fans! An absolute must-have!

Tupelo Elvis Festival nets $75,000 but future still uncertain.

The Elvis Presley Festival has got its groove back, but it might be too late for next year. Festival organizers on Monday said the festival, held earlier this month, had a net income of at least $75,000. The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, the organization that puts on the festival, lost about $46,000 on the 2007 festival.

Based on ticket counts, this year's festival had 9,529 attendees, up from about 7,300 last year.
But despite the record year, DTMSA board President Camille Sloan said members are going to "see logistically how we can restructure it."

"We were anxious to make some money," she said. "We hope we are going to have another festival. It's a real strain on our office."

Sloan will meet with fellow board members today in a board retreat that will focus on options for the Elvis Presley Festival. She said her goal is to "get our Main Street effort going strong" and "be fiscally responsible with what we've got."

"Fiscally responsible" is a term that has been bandied about at nearly every DTMSA board meeting this past year. In 2007, the festival lost $45,959.72, and the group cleared out its rainy day fund to pay bills.

This year, the Elvis Presley Festival, with chairwoman Amy Nash at the helm, scaled back. The festival was held on one downtown stage instead of two, and about $100,000 was slashed from the budget. This year's $251,750 budget was based on the amount of sponsorships that were committed to the festival, said DTMSA Executive Director Debbie Brangenberg. Organizers saved $25,000 by skipping the car giveaway offered previously, and by cutting back on expenses for entertainment, marketing, insurance, security and site management.

"I think we've got the best formula," Brangenberg said. "It worked well for us ... I think we did a great job in selecting the entertainment ... Our attendance was outstanding ... I'm just really proud of the whole organization and the volunteers and the festival committee that helped us achieve this success, as well as the sponsors."

Brangenberg said she's "already working to see what next year will bring."

Will it include the 11th Annual Elvis Presley Festival?

"As far as I know, but I'm not the one that votes," she said. "We are the birthplace of Elvis Presley. We have to have a festival."

School gets guitars from James Burton Foundation.

Photographer: Ron Rutten

Southern University-Shreveport has received 30 Yamaha acoustic guitars and gig bags from the James Burton Foundation to initiate a new guitar class through the university’s Continuing Education Program.

The class, Acoustic Guitar For Beginners, will be offered from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. June 23 through July 14, at SUSLA’s Metro Center, 610 Texas St. Course fee is $79 and those over 12 can participate.

Foundation President and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame member James Burton was to be on campus to today to present the guitars. Burton, who was Elvis Presley’s guitarist from 1969 until Presley’s death in 1977, began his own career at the age of 14 at the Louisiana Hayride.

In addition to Presley, Burton is also known for his work with Rick Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis, John Denver, and Emmylou Harris. He has recorded with thousands of other well-known artists throughout the world during his career.

The legendary guitarist is still doing session work with leading artists such as Brad Paisley, who was a headliner at the first James Burton International Guitar Festival in 2005.

Geller loses bid to undo sale of Elvis' home.

Spoon-bending London "psychic" Uri Geller and two partners lost their bid in federal court Tuesday to overturn the sale of Elvis Presley's former house on Audubon Drive in East Memphis.

Geller and his partners bid $905,100 for the house in an eBay auction in 2006, but the contract was not completed. Geller's group made changes to the contract, delaying the sale when they marked out a provision giving owners Cindy Hazen and Mike Freeman 60 days to move from the property.

When negotiations for a closing date postponed the sale, Hazen and Freeman then decided to sell the house for $1 million to Nashville record producer Mike Curb, who then worked with Rhodes College to use the home as part of a new Mike Curb Music Institute.

Presley and his family lived in the ranch-style house for about a year. He was forced by throngs of fans to move to more secluded Graceland in 1957.

U.S. Dist. Judge Jon McCalla said the eBay auction was not a binding sale because eBay auctions specifically advertise themselves as vehicles "for sellers to advertise their real estate and meet potential buyers." Even if it were a contract, McCalla said Geller and his partners would have breached it when they altered the closing terms after the sale.

Hazen said, "I'm relieved that this is all over and, given that Uri and his partners were malicious, I am delighted that Mike Curb and Rhodes College own the property."
