ROCK And BLUES.

Recorded live in Las Vegas on February 06, 1972, Midnight show.
As Bonus part of February 21 Midnight Show and February 22 Dinner Show.

This is the first audience show ever released of the 1972 season.

EpGold added below two audio samples of 30 seconds:

you_gave_me_30_sec[1]..wav  -  Bridgge30sec[1]..wav

The forthcoming release from the "SR" label is titled "Rock and Blues" and will feature the unreleased show from Las Vegas February 06, 1972 Midnight + two parts of a show preformed February 21 and 22, 1972.

As everybody knows SR concentrates it's work on early 70's live period of Elvis' activity, trying to produce always unreleased shows with Elvis at the top of his possibilities. This our seventh release, we are proud to present three very rare shows, one complete and part of two others so as to give you a more complete view of the season. The complete show from February 6th midnight performance is the first audience released recording from this season and in addition we combine the best of the February 21st midnight show and the 22nd dinner show to give you the opportunity to listen to a larger picture of the man and his music during this season. Elvis' love of singing is clear in these tapes and we are glad to give you the opportunity to listen to them.

The midnight show from February 06th, as presented on this CD, represents just one of the best shows of the season, If we look closely at the first Vegas act of 1972 we can see that Elvis concentrates on the music to produce great shows. The in-between song chat and banter have gone and each number is delivered promptly without even a pause for applause. The 'NEW' songs introduced do reflect the mood of the man and for sure the rocking days are over but the rendition of the early seventies repertoire is solid and sung with great ability.

Talking of these new additions we see some great songs, representative of his life from this stage on. Naturally we are referring to songs such as 'You Gave Me A Mountain' which has an autobiographical theme and 'An American Trilogy' which demonstrates his personal beliefs and patriotic views. Elvis also worked hard to promote his new single 'Until It's Time For You To Go.' Here are also included rare performances of Help Me Make It Through The Night and Hawaiian Wedding Song.

These recordings come from an early generation copy of the master tape, the sound quality is very good considering the season. The sound was restored in a studio to achieve best possible results. We have spent hours in the studio over the digital restoration of the sound, to achieve the best possible results and to give you the chance to hear it with pleasure. So enjoy our work and realize: this is the best possible audience recording(AR) of this season you can find all around! Until now we had only the opening night and a live compilation from BGM from the period 14-17 February. Here is the first chance to listen to a different Elvis in a complete show far away from nervousness of an opening night or a professional recording.

For the first time from this label, this new CD will come in a deluxe package with a 16-page booklet, containing a collection of live and candid photographs from February - 1972 and informative liner notes. Not a simple collection of pictures but a booklet professionally edited in line with the tradition of SR's previous one. We spent time to research good shots in a way to give shape to something different and an artistic layout hard to do overall because extended throughout a 16 page booklet.

Vernon’s House A Few Hours Open To The Public.

There used to be a time when fans and visitors were chased away from 1266 Dolan Drive, the former house of Vernon Presley, where he lived with his fiancée Sandi, and earlier on, with his wife Dee. The new owners didn’t care too much for fans, and made that clear with signs such as “Stay away” and “No pictures”. But times, they are a-changing. On August 15th, initiated by the Britsih fanclub Essential Elvis, the Dolan House opens up the gates for fans who wish to take a look inside.

On www.elvispresleynews.com  we discovered some interesting history about the house, which was actually a wedding gift from Elvis in 1962, built at a cost of $25,000 and situated behind the barn at the north end of the Graceland property. The Dolan House was original part of Graceland property. Elvis had the Tudor style house built so a back entrance could connect the two properties. Before Elvis died, it was possible to roll the fence to one side allowing Vernon or Elvis to drive between the two houses.

It has been said that Vernon built the house the way he wanted it, then Dee remodeled it to her liking. Some of the changes she made included, enclosing the back patio, turning the garage into living space, constructing a separate carport, and knocking out walls to enlarge the size of the kitchen and dining room. The Jacuzzi (see picture above) in the master bedroom was also Dee's idea.

The first bedroom at the top of the stairs is where Priscilla called home when she first moved to Memphis to be close to Elvis. Other than new paint and carpeting, the house is exactly the way Vernon left it when Elvis passed away. Later Vernon moved into Graceland , and sold the house to the couple that owned the Hickory Log restaurant across from Graceland .

Dee was awarded the Dolan House when she divorced Vernon. Some time later, Vernon bought it back from her and lived in it with his fiancée, Sandy Miller. To the left of the fireplace are steps leading to the upstairs bedrooms that were once occupied by the Stanley brothers.

Elvis Goes To Country Heaven.

During a country-fair in Nuernberg, Germany, last year, the idea of the album „Elvis Goes To Country Heaven“ emerged. Several artists and bands sat down at a hotelbar and talked about music.

The chat came up to Elvis Presley and the 30th anniversary of his death this year. Quickly the idea took shape, that everyone should record their favourite song and add their own personal touch to it.

And so, an album with typical Elvis Presley songs was created, interpreted by European artists of various styles. Among the artists participating in this project are Suzie Candell, Tex Robinson and Wild Bunch.

King's Food More Than PB And Bananas.

The King of Rock n' Roll created music, but thousands of others have created other items in his image. There are Elvis T-shirts, Elvis dolls, Elvis purses, Elvis plates and Elvis tapestries. But for fans who want to eat like the King, there are plenty of Elvis-themed cookbooks out there.

The Tupelo Elvis Presley Fan Club has been hard at work creating its cookbook. The book will feature more than 400 recipes of all types and will also include never-before-seen photos of the King, said club president Barbara Mallory.

On the divider pages, there will be history and fun facts about Elvis' life, she said. The club hopes to have the book ready for this weekend's festival, but if it's not, folks can pre-order the book at the festival. The Tupelo Elvis Presley Fan Club book will sell for $20

Planners Say 30th Anniversary In Memphis Could Be Biggest Yet.

Officials in Memphis are bracing for a tourist invasion as Graceland celebrates the 30th Elvis Week, a commemoration of music, magic and memories of the King.

Hotel rooms are being snapped up three months in advance of the Aug. 11-19 celebration, The (Memphis) Commercial-Appeal reported Tuesday. Major events during the week already are sold out.

Five years ago, the 25th anniversary celebration broke records with an estimated 75,000 tourists, said Jack Soden, Elvis Presley Enterprises chief executive officer. He said he realized the 30th could be bigger when tickets went on sale for the anniversary concert at FedExForum.

Collection Of Coins And Elvis Memorabilia May Have Led To Murder And Suicide.

Scottsdale police say robbery led to the slaying of a former New York City firefighter found dead inside his apartment. The focus of the investigation is on a missing coin collection from a safe inside the victim's Scottsdale apartment, police said. The family of Salvatore Princiotta was unable to detail the exact content or value of the coin collection and what they described as missing "Elvis Presley memorabilia."

Family members told police Princiotta had befriended a person named "Jeff." Police narrowed their search to Jeffrey Lynn Bigham, 56, a resident of Arizona and California. Phone records obtained by Scottsdale police showed Princiotta and Bigham were in daily contact until early May. Detectives said they determined that Bigham was in Scottsdale on May 1, the day Princiotta was killed. Princiotta's decomposed body was found May 14 in his Scottsdale apartment.

By Friday, investigators had developed probable cause to believe that Bigham was responsible for the killing, officers said. Scottsdale detectives discovered that Bigham was in California. They traveled to the San Bernardino, Calif., area to begin searching for him. Late Friday, police located Bigham at a motel in San Bernardino. Scottsdale police detectives and San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies attempted to contact Bigham at the motel. Upon seeing law enforcement, Bigham fled on foot and was chased by detectives, police said. After a short distance, Bigham pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head as officers closed in, police said. Bigham died a short time later at a hospital. Princiotta, 43, responded to the Sept. 11 attacks while serving as a New York City firefighter. He moved to Arizona because he suffered from lung problems.

"We believe it was robbery," his brother Chuck Princiotta, 53, told The News. "I believe [the killer] knew my brother had some valuables." Salvatore Princiotta's vast collection of Elvis memorabilia included items signed by the King. Princiotta was given the memorabilia when he stopped at Graceland two months after 9/11 during a charity bicycle ride that raised money for the widows and children of slain firefighters. Princiotta, 43, a nephew of renowned Deputy Fire Chief Ray Downey, a 39-year veteran of the FDNY who was killed on 9/11, idolized Elvis, his relatives said. He even grew sideburns to look like the famed singer, leading his fellow firefighters at Ladder 9, Engine 33, in lower Manhattan to nickname him "Elvis.

Elvis Gospel Event In Tupelo.

The 2007 Elvis Presley Festival will pay homage to its namesake's affinity for gospel music with a concert at Tupelo's First United Methodist Church. The event started when Travis LeDoyt, an Elvis tribute artist, performed a gospel-themed show.

"It's been a very successful part of the festival," said Jim High, assistant director of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, which oversees the festival.

LeDoyt won't make the 2007 concert, but Dean Vegas, a tribute artist from Australia, will lend his voice to the joyful noise. He'll perform several songs with Terry Blackwood and the Imperials.

"They sang with Elvis on his gospel records, so there's that connection," High said.

The Landmarks and the Lane Chapel Quartet also are scheduled to perform. It's a casual event, and members of the festival staff have been known to appear in their shorts and T-shirts.

"People are free to shout, clap and sing along if they want to," High said.

The church seats about 500 people, and the gospel concert usually sells out. Tickets cost $10 each, and they're available at
www.tupeloelvisfestival.com

"You need to get your reservations early," High said. "Last year, we turned people away. You hate to do that, but when you get full, you get full."

Confiscated Elvis Items Up For Auction.

A date has been set for an auction of Elvis Presley memorabilia which was confiscated from a thief, it was announced today.

Julie Wall's vast collection - numbering thousands of individual items - will go under the hammer next month to repay the £600,000 she siphoned from her employers.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is hoping the sale will attract huge interest in the run-up to the 30th anniversary of The King`s death on August 16.

The rarest item is a South African pressing of a recording by Presley and Janis Martin with a guide price of £500, but which sells for about £2,500 at retail prices.

Among the 600 lots in the sale on June 10 are:

:: A 1964 credit card receipt from Presley`s Texaco Gas account;
:: An autographed copy of the album A Date with Elvis;
:: A limited edition of the first Elvis Presley CD ever released.

CPS confiscation chief Gary Balch said: "Our message to all those who commit any crime for financial gain is that when they are caught they not only run the risk of receiving a prison sentence, but they will be stripped of the full profits of their crimes.

"This case is unusual because of the nature and volume of the property confiscated.

"However, it demonstrates the commitment of the CPS to recover as much compensation as we can."

The sale could generate £200,000 to £300,000.

Mr Balch added: "Whilst we cannot realistically expect the proceeds of the auction to fully recompense the council for its losses, it will be a significant step in the right direction."

In January last year a recorder at Lincoln Crown Court ruled 47-year-old Wall should repay her debts to North Kesteven District Council after she admitted two counts of theft.

She was also handed a three year jail term.

Wall, of Rippon Drive, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, stole a total of £597,964 while working as a cashier for the council.

She pocketed cash collected from council parking meters, taking up to £10,000 every month.

Her role at the council, where she had worked for more than 30 years, was to deposit takings from meters into the council`s bank account.

But for a decade she stole a fortune in small change, using it to feed her compulsion for Elvis memorabilia at collectors` fairs and specialist shops across the country.

The court heard that Wall had declared herself bankrupt following her conviction, meaning her only assets were the Elvis memorabilia and a second-hand Vauxhall Astra.

Proceeds of the sale at Bamfords Ltd in Derby will go to the council which suffered Wall`s thefts over a 10 year period.

Star Wars Stamp Set To Eclipse Elvis Stamp.

The US Postal Service is bracing itself for an intergalactic attack. The Star Wars stamp has been released.

A print run of 450 million Star Wars stamps has been (so far) commissioned. Let's hope the "force" remains with the King!

Farewell To Milo High, Pilot of Elvis's JetStar.

Milo High, who was the pilot of Elvis's "Hound Dog II" JetStar plane, has passed away.

This company has charge of the arrangements:

Family Funeral Care
4925 Summer Ave.
Memphis, TN 38122
901-761-8000

Visitation will be on Tuesday evening, May 29th, time TBA. The funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 30th.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. High and all the family in this time of loss.

Milo High flew both the Hound Dog 1 and was co-pilot to the Lisa Marie.

Elvis paid $250,000 in 1975 for the 96 seat, four engine plane Lisa Marie and spent over a half a million dollars more to have it stripped & customized to include a lounge with suede sofas and leather-topped game tables, a conference/dining room with leather recliner chairs, a sitting/guest bedroom, a master bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a fully equipped galley, and two half-baths with 24K gold-flecked sinks.

Television, video and stereo systems, sky phones and gold-plated seat belt buckles were among the other appointments and accessories. Elvis employed a full-time crew of four for his plane including pilot Milo High.

It was on this plane in February 1976 that Elvis flew with friends from Memphis to Denver (900 miles) just to pick up a takeaway. From Graceland, he ordered them all a specialty sandwich named Fool's Gold because of its outrageous price -$49.95.

Elvis' plane touched down at 1:40 am in Denver and taxied to a private hangar. The owner of the restaurant personally brought Elvis and his party the order of twenty-two loaves on silver trays along with a case of Perrier, a case of champagne and a chest of cracked ice as requested. Elvis, his friends and the crew feasted on board then headed back to Memphis...

Watch Out For Strange Movie Guitar.

Elvis collectors, attention! eBay is offering several Elvis related items which may be of interest to you. An acoustic Franconian musical Framus guitar with two prominent F holes is one of them.

According to the description, the instrument was given to a co-actor on the movie "Easy Come Easy Go" and is signed "Thanks for everything, from Elvis Presley" on the front, and is also signed "Vernon" on the back.

The guitar comes with three letters of authenticity, one from Vince Everett who purchased the guitar, Andy Schroer from the Elvis Presley exhibition and another from the late Bill Lynn. Lynn, however, proved to be not always trustworthy.

The odd thing is that Elvis played electric guitar only in the movie, while the “signed movie guitar” is acoustic. Our advice: do think twice. Target price: 35.000 $US

BBC RADIO 2 DOUBLE DOCUMENTARY.

Saturday 11 August 2007
2000-2100

The programme includes interviews with famous fans Alan Bleasdale, Bono, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Tim Rice, Cliff Richard and Jimmy Webb and memories from those that worked closely with Elvis – his backing group, The Jordanaires, guitarist James Burton and songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller who penned some of his most successful hits.

ELVIS - 68 COMEBACK
Tuesday 14 August 2007
2230-2330

This one hour documentary explores the amazing impact and legacy of a TV special filmed for NBC called ‘Elvis’, now better know as Elvis’s '68 Comeback special'.

Elvis' stands as one of the great television moments in rock music history and a stunningly brilliant milestone in Elvis Presley's career. Elvis rocked the world in the 1950s, a leader among musicians who brought about a revolution in music and pop culture. Through most of the 1960s he concentrated mainly on his movie career, which was very successful, but had become a grind and had not given him many opportunities to prove himself as a serious actor.

By 1968, it had been more than seven years since Elvis had appeared on stage in front of a live audience. In this television special, Elvis played his greatest role - simply being himself.

“Fit for a King” : The Story of B&K Enterprises.

Television Special synopsis:

“Fit for a King: The Story of B&K Enterprises” is the first TV-show to document the extraordinary story of B&K Enterprises one of the most unique costume shops of its kind in the world. They are internationally acclaimed for their reproductions of sequined jumpsuits, leather pants, embroidered capes, and an exquisite collection of accessories epitomized by Elvis Presley.

“Fit for a King” is an all-American story about childhood sweethearts Butch and Kim Polston who followed their dreams from small town Indiana all the way to Graceland.

Butch & Kim Polston have a passion for detail that lead to a working relationship with the original fabulous designers, Bill Belew and Gene Doucette. Together they pay homage to the King with their faithful recreations.

Belew, the designer who created the head-to-toe black-leather look for the 1968 TV special that became known as Presley's "comeback," became a collaborator whom Presley trusted to execute his more and more outrageous style ideas in the 1970s.

In 1972 Gene Doucette, started doing the designing on Elvis costumes for Hollywood costume legend Bill Belew.

Gene designed more than 50 elaborate outfits worn by the king of rock & Roll. He has also designed wardrobes for Cher, Bette Midler, Dolly Parton Diana Ross, Carol Burnette, Tina Turner and Muhammad Ali.

Featuring rare video footage, archival photographs of Elvis wearing his amazing outfits, as well as sketches and other original documentation.

“Fit for a King” showcases the risk-taking style that was part of Presley's power as a rock 'n' roll icon and the heartfelt friendships that have evolved from mutual admiration and respect.

SONNY WEST BOOK SIGNING.

By Sandi Pichon

The Reception from the Viva Las Vegas Fan Club and Sonny's book signings in Vegas were very successful. A special thanks goes to Sue Lorenz, President of VLVFC for all her efforts in making this a memorable event.

One of the most important things about Sonny's Vegas trip. He was able to see his old friend Rich Moreno, a former Hilton Security Guard, and spend some time with him. Moreno, whom Elvis affectionately called "Reno" is in the end stages of cancer.

He shared many stories with us at the Viva Las Vegas Fan Club Reception. Loanne Parker, Col's widow, was also present, and it was great reliving so many precious memories between the three of them. Please keep Rich in your prayers.

Also special thanks to my friend Sue McCasland for letting me stay with her (as always LOL) and for chaueffering us everywhere! Sonny did several tv, radio and magazine interviews and was warmly received everywhere he went in Vegas.

On Friday Sonny appeared with Pete Vallee, known as Big Elvis. Vallee is a very warm, kind man with a lovely baritone voice who pays a respectful tribute to Elvis. Some unkind remarks about Pete have been posted on various clubs and groups, and some have even attacked Sonny for appearing with him. How sad that people are so shallow to attack someone for their weight.

Pete has lost over 300 pounds (KUDOS TO HIM!) and is striving to lose more. Elvis would never have treated him the way some "fans" have, and would have been honored by Vallee's tribute. His show is very popular in Vegas and he is well thought of there. Sonny's friend Sam Thompson came out to see Sonny at Pete's show.

Marshall Terrill and his parents came in to be at the Border's signing. Billy Miller showed up there and tried to get Sonny to validate him and pose with a picture. Sonny told him in no uncertain terms, but in a gentlemanly manner, that he was a liar, that he had maligned the members of the Memphis Mafia, and that he (Billy Miller) did not do the things he had claimed. Sonny did not pose for a picture with him, and Miller and his wife left.

Elvis' and Sonny's old friend Marty Allen invited Sonny to his show at the Gold Coast on Sunday night. There Allen introduced Sonny from the stage and told some cute stories from the past, as well as plugged the book. I got some great pictures after the show.

Just thought you might like an update. If you want to order an autographed, personalized copy of "Elvis Still Taking Care of Business" go to www.sonnywest.com  . For a complete schedule of Sonny's appearances in Tupelo and Memphis please email me at spichon@charter.net

Elvis-Inspired Band Records Upbeat Songs For All Ages.

“Music that cooks with a western flavor” is the mantra for a new local band called the Bunker Boys. The seven-member group is known for recording music that covers a variety of genres, including traditional folk, country, blues and rock.

So far, the group has recorded an eight-track CD titled “Elvis Has Left the Building,” released in June 2006 by Bight Me Records LLC. West Bloomfield resident Rico Steinhert, 56, wrote all of the songs on the disc, including one he said was inspired by his Jan. 8, 2004, encounter with Elvis in the peanut butter aisle of a Meijer store in Kalamazoo.

“Without Elvis, the Bunker Boys wouldn’t be what they are today. We’re like Miss America, we want to conquer world hunger and peace,” said Steinhert. “No — really, we’re trying to entertain and uplift people … just trying to explore and expand the musical border, break down the barriers between genres of music.”

Each of the band’s eight tracks has been played on different radio stations across the country. In Michigan, the Bunker Boys were heard on WATZ, WCSX, WCUP and WJR. The band’s album features a variety of songs, most which are considered appropriate for children. Disney Radio is currently reviewing the tracks for possible airplay.

Song titles on the disc include “Elvis Has Left the Building,” “The Canadian Cowboy,” “I’m Going Fishing” and “Fifteen Minutes of Fame.”

Producer of the band is 35-year-old Plymouth resident Peter Keys, who also plays the keyboard. The band operates out of a Plymouth music studio that temporarily has no name, according to its owner, 52-year-old Doug Moore of Plymouth.

“Rico’s songwriting really sets the band apart,” Moore said. “They’re good and catchy lyrics that are not too long.”

Steinhert grew up in Detroit listening to Motown and attending local blues festivals before high school, when he began playing the harmonica with bands in the Ann Arbor area. He earned a teaching certificate form the University of Michigan in 1973. Other band members are 35-year-old Matt Binder of Plymouth on drums, 60-year old Farmington Hills resident and vocalist Bob Buck, 55-year-old Plymouth resident Joe LaGrici and 35-year-old Berkley resident Chuck Litvin on guitar, and 54-year-old West Bloomfield resident William Stern on clarinet.

Few of the band members were friends before Moore formally introduced them to one another at the studio. At press time, more than 25,000 people from 65 countries had visited the band’s Elvis-inspired Web site. The Bunker Boys remain selective, choosing not to perform small-time gigs in local bars or clubs. Steinhert said that his band would begin performing live should a formal concert opportunity arise.

If you have the first three volumes in the 'American Way' series you'll know what to expect from this new one.

For those who don't see the significance of the cover photo or the connection to the musical contents, perhaps a little explanation is in order. The photo, taken by famous Memphian Robert "Bob" Williams, shows Elvis, Red West and cousin Junior Smith cruisin' on Main Street on a summer night in 1956. It was on Main and Beale that the teenage/ young adult Elvis Presley absorbed and soaked up the musical sounds of the City of Memphis. These influences shine through in some of his best ever studio recordings laid down in his hometown. Sun, American Sound, Stax...those recordings echo the sound of the City of Memphis.

Also a little different is that part of the 16-page bonus booklet is devoted to '50s RCA paperwork, rare photos of the studios he recorded in and unseen pix of Elvis and Scotty at Radio Recorders - all under the heading 'Another Place, Another Time'.

Elvis : Close As A Brother - Elvis Presley TV Special With George Klein.

A new Elvis documentary for George Klein, called : Elvis Close As A Brother is in the works and the producers are asking for help locating home movie footage of (i) early Elvis Las Vegas performances at the International and (ii) any footage of 70's Elvis touring...and in particular Elvis arriving at a gig or backstage and/or with fans....

The show is the life of Elvis as told in a very personal and intimate way by George. It is laced with hundreds of photos, film clips, tv clips and newsreels of the day...

The show contains 9 Elvis performances.

The one-hour special, shot in high-definition, will provide a personal and heartfelt perspective on the legendary star’s life through the eyes of Klein, whom Presley had originally met in high school in 1948. The film is laced with a soundtrack of the star’s music, an original score inspired by the era, exclusive photos, and newsreel and archive footage.

"This candid and touching special is a real gem as it marks the first time that George Klein has ever talked in great detail about his friendship with Elvis, exclusively to camera," said Rick Stevens, the chairman of Record Plant Pictures. "He does so with integrity and honesty, as one of the elite few to have shared the highs and lows with the star."

The production is partnered with Elvis Presley Enterprises and all music is licensed from Sony / BMG (RCA).
