NEW  DVD  BY STAR   "HOLLYWOOD ELVIS"  VOLUME 4.

COMING THIS FEBRUARY:

This series does not need introduction, again STAR deliveres an incredible dvd, with 35 newly re-edited clips, like the first 3 volumes, all the clips are made in a less “movie” way, and the accent is on the performance of Elvis; the reason why we are fans!

Movies included this time are:

THE TROUBLE WITH GIRLS, FLAMING STAR, IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLDS FAIR and EASY COME, EASY GO.

Not only all the songs from the movies are included, but again there are lots of bonusses to make it even more fun:

U.S. MALE – close up footage of Elvis from the movie The Trouble With Girls, a very funny clip!

BRITCHES, we see “a gail in britches” and Elvis on horse, where it SHOULD have been in the movie, but was deleted. Also from Flaming Star : BLACK STAR , The movie version of SUMMER KISSES, and the END TITLE version of FLAMING STAR.

WHAT NOW WHAT NEXT WHERE TO, still pictures from It Happened At The Worlds Fair, this clips tries to tell that Elvis has lost grip on the movies, and does not know “WHAT NEXT”.. he dreamed about movie contracts, but they were very dissapointing to him (“You were part, of every dream i dreamed... how could i know our castles were build upon the sand....”)

GONNA GET BACK HOME SOMEHOW Behind the scenes footage of Elvis on the set.

I GOTTA KNOW – rare pictures of Elvis during Flaming Star.

Make sure you get the “REAL thing” with the REAL cover, made with love “By fans, for fans”. Don’t support the ones, made only for the money.

SIRIUS: ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING.

The cost cutting continues at Sirius Satellite Radio, according to messages posted on a New York radio broadcasting Web forum. Sirius has eliminated live disc jockeys from its '50s channel and two other feeds, said a posting by Fred Richards.

A consensus of comments was that Sirius has given up on listeners over the age of 50.

Richards said saving money by eliminating live talent on the channel was "making the grievous error of chasing people like me back to our FM sets." The Sirius Web site lists only one disc jockey on the '50s channel now, Norm N. Nite, who broadcasts weekend afternoons.

"If this is how Sirius is managing the cost of doing business, the essentially become a satellite-based iPod/MP3 player," commented Phil Seely.

"It's such a pitifully small drop in the change bucket (cutting disc jockey staff) that even bean counters must wonder 'why bother' when the dog (Sirius' mascot) continues to give away large bounties to non-radio talent like Jamie Foxx," who was just hired to help produce an urban
comedy/entertainment channel.

Another comment, from Pat Ryan, asked if dropping the '50s talent was a reflection of the retirement last week of Jay Clark, the Sirius' 63-year-old programming chief. "No one," said Ryan, "has a clue regarding the older crowd."

The cutback on the '50s channel (and reportedly others) could be a result of Howard Stern's prominence on the service.

With his appeal to a younger demographic, the Sirius audience may not include many pre-boomers. It could also be that Sirius believes XM's won the '50s audience, what there is of it. "

The 50s" channel has about a dozen oldies shows in addition to its jukebox programming.

Rumours are also spreading that Elvis Radio available through Sirius could be next on the cost cutting hit list.

The following is taken from DJ MOWO's website.

MOWO! ELVIS REMIX TO BE IN AD DURING SUPER BOWL!

WELL.......im not sure when or if ever the tune is being released commercially.......but the HONDA spot with my HUNK OF BURNING LOVE remix is going to air during the SUPER BOWL

Yes folks...the grand daddy of all TV broadcasts.....EL BOWL DE LOS SUPER!

Im not sure when its going to air.....but I do know that it costs a fortune to get a spot on during the game.

So big ups HONDA......looks like you chose my lil spot as the fatty one in the campaign.

Fun fun fun.

Everyone have a great weekend......im finally feeling better and out of my house.

Being sick wasnt really relaxing like I thought it would be so Im going to take a vacation a week from monday.

You all can guess where Im going if you want to.......let's see who comes up with the best answer!

yee haa!

be well,
MOWO!™

Note: Several automakers kick off their new campaigns in during the US Super Bowl.

More than 90 millions people will watch the Super Bowl in the U.S. alone and CBS charges as much as $2.6 million for 30 seconds of ad time.

Honda plans to run two 30-second commercials during the game's fourth quarter.

The first commercial will promote the fuel efficiency of Honda and the second is a blatant appeal to baby boomers.

A Honda spokesman said the second spot is known inside the company as "Elvis" and features a CR-V dancing to Elvis Presley's song "Burning Love."

Group Hopes To Revive Overton Park Shell

The City of Memphis, the Mortimer Levitt Foundation and a group of Memphians will partner to revive the Overton Park Shell.

The partnership was announced Monday in a news release prepared by The Carter Malone Group, a Memphis-based public relations firm. Further details about the project will be released in February.

The Overton Park Shell closed in 2004. An engineering study found the venue would need about $550,000 worth of improvements.

The Mortimer Levitt Foundation has a history of helping restore amphitheaters.

In 2003, the foundation endowed the city of Pasadena, Calif., with a $250,000 grant to restore the Gold Shell in Memorial Park, which was built in 1930.

That venue, now called the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, recently held its fourth annual free summer concert series.

Elvis Presley held his first paid performance at the Overton Park Shell in 1954.

Over the years, entertainers such as The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead and Neil Diamond have performed at the Midtown venue.

The Mortimer Levitt Foundation was created in 1963 to support the arts across the U.S.

And isn't it EPE's primary objective to preserve the name, likeness and image of Elvis Presley ?

Ebay:

Elvis Presley with Real Coffin Just Like Famous Last Photo.

Extremely unusual item is composed of a ceramic elvis bust laid in a real Poplar wood casket, reproducing the well known last photo of the King.

The coffin was purchased new specifically for this display, which has been featured in a few local newspapers. This would make a great Halloween prop with or without Elvis.

The lot includes the casket, the Elvis bust and torso and the visitation hours sign.

Lost Elvis Donut Commercial Found?

Elvis made only one commercial in his life on november 6, 1954 for Southern Maid Donuts.

This commercial was broadcasted during tje Louisiana Hayride. Elvis song the jingle: "You can get 'em piping hot after four PM, you can get 'em piping hot.

Southern Maid Donuts hit the spot, you can get 'em piping hot after four PM." This commercial is never published.

George Klein got a phonecall this week in his show on Sirius Radio. The caller claimed that he received the commercial thru an ex-employee from the productioncompany.

He is willing to give the commercial for free to EPE, if they arrange a meeting with Lisa-Marie. Klein did not give any warranty, but it has no doubt that this story continues.

Legends Of Music Spotted At Bono's Window.

Yo, Jimi ... Bono is in good company in his new video.
Photo: Paul Rovere

A triumph of reconstruction has allowed some of music's most beloved names to star in U2's latest music video, writes J. Freedom du Lac.

In the breathtaking video for U2's new song, Window in the Skies, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Billie Holiday, Marvin Gaye and a shirtless Iggy Pop take turns singing the lyrics on Bono's behalf.

Instead of the Edge on guitar, you see Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Elvis Costello and a very young Keith Richards, back when he looked like a George Harrison doppelganger.

And hey, there's Vladimir Horowitz playing the piano! And that guy from Wilco on bass! And the manic Keith Moon on drums!

All thanks to the magic of editing and copyright clearances.

The Window in the Skies video is a stirring montage that features roughly 100 archival clips of various musicians performing in concert. The footage has been carefully and cleverly edited so the performances sync up with U2's lyrics and music - right down to Frank Sinatra conducting the soaring song to its conclusion.

It's a triumph of postmodern reconstruction, a four-minute-19-second celebration of some of popular music's most beloved and influential figures.

Let other, lesser artists feature video cameos by one or two of their famous friends. U2 seems to have invited the entire Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame to its party, and more than a few folks showed up: Ray Charles, Joe Strummer, Smokey Robinson, Patti Smith, Jerry Lee Lewis, Robert Plant, Ronnie Spector, Roy Orbison. They were joined by some celebrated newcomers, from rapper Kanye West to the Canadian indie-rock band Arcade Fire.

"We wanted to honour these great artists," says Gary Koepke, the video's director.

"Throughout time, they've been playing music and trying to achieve greatness. We wanted to celebrate them and their passion. This video had to happen. And it made itself, basically."

Well, not really. It took three months to make the addictive video, which has become a hit on YouTube and has inspired endless pages of internet discussion-board messages about who appears in the clip and when. (That's Lou Reed, not Jim Morrison, at the 44-second mark; Beyonce, not Britney Spears, at 1:47. A rundown of all of the artists might eventually appear on U2's website.)

While Koepke oversaw creation of the video, he left much of the heavy lifting to others - including three young editors who, he says, "wanted a break": his son, Max, plus David Brodie and Julian Wadsworth. "They're all in their 20s and they love music and embraced this. If I'd gone to somebody my age, in their late 40s, they would've grumbled and said, 'You're crazy.' The spirit of youth really drove this project."

Koepke had exactly one music video credit on his résumé prior to working on Window in the Skies (David Bowie's Slow Burn). He's an advertising executive by trade, the co-founder of a Boston agency, Modernista!, which last year teamed with Bobby Shriver and U2's designated world-saver Bono on their "Choose Red" initiative to help fund medication for AIDS victims in Africa.

Koepke says the wheels began to spin almost immediately when Bono gave him a copy of a new U2 song that was intended for a greatest-hits package. "Everybody probably has a different interpretation," the director says, "but to me, the song is about time and the power of love."

Somehow, that interpretation led to the idea of a montage of … musicians.

The resulting video features 137 clips, including several "Where's Wally?"-type crowd shots in which the various members of U2 can be seen, if only briefly. There's also footage of people dancing, people kissing, flowers blooming, and what Koepke calls "the money shot" - an atomic bomb turning into a sunset. But the guest musicians are the stars, their presence overpowering U2 and its featured song.

It's a little bit Bruce Conner (he of the famous found-footage film A Movie), a little bit Christian Marclay (he of the multimedia music presentations). And it's a whole lot of Jeff Estow. As director of business affairs for Modernista!, Estow spent endless hours making licensing deals for the archival footage and trying to secure permission to use the artists' likenesses.

In making his pitch, Estow says, he told the musicians' reps that the video would be "a very tasteful homage to artists from across eras and genres who've provided particular influence and inspiration to U2".

The lawyer for Sinatra's estate signed off on the project almost immediately (it didn't hurt that Bono had worked with Sinatra before the crooner's death). Shortly thereafter, Presley's estate agreed to allow the singer's iconic image to appear in the video and provided footage from a 1968 comeback special that synced exceptionally well with Bono's singing. "Once that happened, we went to other artists and said Sinatra and Elvis are in the video, and things really got rolling," Estow says.

While the video celebrates musical greatness, it is not meant to be a comprehensive yearbook of popular music's best.

"There were a few legends we missed, obviously, that we really would have liked to get," he says. Among them: Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, James Brown, Chuck Berry and Bruce Springsteen. While the Beatles didn't make the final cut, their representatives approved the project after the deadline, and because, well, they're the Beatles, the video has been redone to accommodate them. The new version is likely to be released in the US this week.

And then, Koepke says, that's it: No more music videos. At least not ones in which a quartet transforms itself into a cast of thousands in the editing bay.

"This project took a quarter of a year to finish," he says. "If I do another one, it will just be a picture of the sun rising and the song playing over it. Very conceptual."

Presley Publishing Now Exclusively With Cherry Lane.

New York based indie Cherry Lane Music Publishing has been selected by Elvis Presley Enterprises, LLC and the estate of Julian Aberbach to administer their 75% share of their prestigious Elvis Presley catalogue. The catalogue contains over 1,000 songs recorded by Elvis Presley as well as other legendary singers of the time, including Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald.

Cherry Lane had previously administered 25% of the catalogue on behalf of the estate of Jean Aberbach. The multi-year deal marks the first time since 2000 that the administration of the catalogue will be handled by one publisher, a scenario coveted by music licensees given the speed and efficiency of "one-stop" publishing.

In addition, Cherry Lane has committed to special promotions specific to the catalogue. These will include advertisements in Film, TV and advertising trades as well as delivery of songs to music supervisors on branded digital music players.

Phil Cialdella, Vice President, Administration and Licensing for Cherry Lane, notes "Representing this prestigious song catalogue has been a tremendous honor, and carries great responsibility. We look forward to further maximizing the exposure and accessibility of these legendary songs by consolidating and expediting the clearance process for music users. Everyone benefits, but the songs will benefit the most."

"All of us at EPE are looking forward to collaborating with Cherry Lane in promoting these catalogues filled with songs Elvis made popular," states Gary Hovey, Executive Vice-President of EPE. "We are very excited about working together to bring these great songs to new generations through the many new technologies we have today."

Cherry Lane Music, New York-based privately held music publisher founded in 1960 by renowned producer/arranger Milt Okun, oversees an extensive catalogue of songs ranging from legendary classics “All Shook Up,” “Just the Two of Us,” “Take Me Home Country Roads,” “Day-O,” “Anarchy in the U.K.,” “Man In The Mirror” and “P.Y.T.” to more recent Billboard chart-toppers including the Black Eyed Peas’ “My Humps,” “Don’t Lie,” “Where Is The Love” and “Let’s Get It Started,” John Legend’s “Ordinary People” and Fergie’s “Fergilicious.”

Cherry Lane has also amassed a vast catalogue of film and television credits including The Passion of the Christ, Shrek, Shark Tale, Gladiator, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Known for its innovative copyright exploitation and administration, Cherry Lane has forged relationships with DreamWorks Pictures, DreamWorks Animation SKG, Walden Media, NASCAR, Icon Productions, NFL Films, World Wrestling Entertainment, Professional Bull Riders, Pokémon USA, Inc. and 4Kids Productions, to name a few.

What Did Elvis Think Of Impersonators?

The fact that EPE decided to hold their first official impersonator contest is still an actual discussion.

A lot of people are asking the question what Elvis would have thought about this situation. There is an answer to this question in the archives.

On july 19, 1977, Elvis wrote a letter to the winner of talent competition who did an impersonating act. People who are pro don't read further than Elvis' congratulations.

It is not hard to understand the diplomatic message from the King in quotes as 'Do develop YOUR OWN talent' and 'never neglect your own special abilities to be yourself also'. The complete letter:

Dear David,

Congratulations on winning the talent competition you were in and good luck on the show this Friday:

I really do appreciate you as a fan.... and mimicry is a sincere form of being a fan. Do develop your own special talents and abilities though, David.

This is a great compliment to me that you would work so hard on this act like mine but never neglect your own special abilities to be yourself also.

Best Wishes in the future and God Bless you.

Sincerely
Elvis Presley

Elvis What Really Happened.

Elvis what really happened: As promotion for Joe Esposito's new release, Celebrate Elvis, Elvis The Magazine has circulated excerpts from the book. Here is one:

Reporter: There are rumors when Elvis was in the Army in Germany that Elvis and the Sergeant he was driving for got so cold one night during maneuvers that they pulled a tarp over the Jeep as the engine of the Jeep was running to stay warm.

Is it true that the Army used the publicized tonsillitis hospital visit to cover up the fact that Elvis almost died from Carbon Monoxide poisoning resulting from the fumes that came into the Jeep from a hole in the floorboard?

Joe Esposito: The Unit that we were in Germany used to go into the field quite a bit. One night in the winter, Elvis was out on maneuvers as a scout driver and he and the Sergeant decided to pull over to the side to take a little nap. So, they covered the jeep with a tarp and left the motor running so they could warm up to the heat of the engine.

So, after awhile they passed out from the carbon monoxide gas, which is as you know, quite deadly.  Now, here is the strange part. While Elvis and the Sergeant were lying there unconscious, a really strong wind came and blew the tarp off the jeep. That's what saved their lives. That really happened.

They didn't pull the tarp off themselves as so many people believe. As for the tonsillitis, well, he got that because of the extreme cold out on maneuvers. So, he went to the hospital to get that taken care of.

So, the story that it was a cover up was not true. However, it is true about the gas and the tarp and everything. But the strangest damn thing about it is that the wind blew the tarp off. Talk about divine intervention.

Review FTD  Unchained Melody.

Finally a real pro review is written by Geoffrey Mc Donnell  from Elvis Australia.

Review - Unchained Melody

This January 2007 Unchained Melody  release from FTD presents us with Elvis' concert tour back in February 1977 ... it's a good CD similar to Spring Tours, but it most certainly does represent Elvis during this tour and well worth having in your collection.

Elvis STILL Hasn't Left The Building Are you ready for... The Untold Story?

Seems like you just can’t keep a good King down.

He may have died thirty years ago (August 16, 1977, to be precise), but Elvis Presley’s legend shows no signs of stopping – his records still sell by the truckload, thousands of visitors still clump around his home, Graceland, every year, and the sister of one Empire staffer still spends a small fortune on Presley merchandise, from spoons to the Elvis version of Monopoly...

You may think you know the Presley story inside out by now, what with various biopics and TV films about The King of Rock’n’Roll, including the original and best – John Carpenter’s Elvis, starring the incomparable Kurt Russell – but a deal has just been closed to bring you an inside view on one of the most private parts of Presley’s life: his time in the US Army.

Cinema League, a new production company, has just bought the film and TV rights to a book entitled, Sergeant Presley: The Untold Story of Elvis' Missing Years, co-written by one Rex Mansfield, a soldier who served alongside Elvis during his much-publicised tour of duty in the Army, from 1958 to 1960.

Aha! But the intrigue doesn’t stop there, fact fans. This isn’t just going to be Full Metal Presley, for the book is also co-written by Mansfield’s wife, Elizabeth, who was once – shock! Horror! – Presley’s lady. So, as well as telling all about Presley’s time serving Uncle Sam, from his basic training to his time spent in Germany (which inspired the Presley flick, G.I. Blues), where he met a (very) young Priscilla Beaulieu (one day to become Mrs. Presley, and of course comedic foil to Leslie Nielsen in three Naked Gun flicks) for the first time, the movie will purport to tell all about the affair between Presley and Elizabeth, and how the heroic, manly Rex Mansfield drew her slowly away from the allure of the King himself.

Of course, that means that the movie’s viewpoint may not be entirely unbiased or, indeed, flattering towards Elvis. After all, it could, in fact, be subtitled How I Shagged Elvis’ Bird, Ha Ha Ha, but we must trust that the events recorded within won’t be entirely one-sided.

It’s very early stages yet for Sergeant Presley – if that is to be the name – and in fact, it may wind up as a TV series. But Cinema League is a production company formed with the express intention of making films in the $5-20 million league, so expect to see it first on the big screen. Currently, Cinema League’s Milo Vrana, a sports agent turned screenwriter, is working on adapting the book (which, we have to add, is also co-written by Marshall and Zoe Terrill).

So far, there’s no word of a director and, perhaps more pertinently, a star, someone to fill Elvis’ big shoes and follow in the footsteps of Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer (uncredited in Tony Scott’s True Romance) and, bizarrely, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the Irish actor having played Presley in 2005’s epic TV movie, Elvis.

Given the movie’s probable budget, it’s unlikely that Sergeant Presley will bag an A-lister, but you can bet on the search for a King – let’s not forget, a young, lithe, charismatic and handsome Presley – generating more than a few column inches. Needless to say, we’ll keep you updated. Thanguverymuch!

To Shell And Back.

The outdoor Memphis amphitheater where a young Elvis Presley played his first show in 1954 is a shell of its former self.

Its rows of wooden benches are begging for a fresh coat of paint, metal buildings around the stage have become eyesores and the whole thing long has been in need of structural repairs. Standalone panels that display community notices and events still include a faded program schedule for 2004.

Nevertheless, supporters of the Overton Park Shell take heart: The amphitheater soon will be spruced up in a major way and could be hosting live concert performances again as early as spring 2008.

Play it again, Sam

City officials recently were briefed on details of the renovation, some funding for which already has been approved by the Memphis City Council. Those details include pulling up some or perhaps all of the wooden benches that exist now to allow people to bring their own blankets and chairs to fill what would be a sloping grassy knoll.

Other details that have been discussed include the possibility of signage along Poplar Avenue and possibly in Veterans Plaza within Overton Park promoting the refurbished shell. If those details and more all come to fruition, the shell also would reopen with modern touches that might long ago have seemed unthinkable for the venue, built for less than $12,000 in the 1930s by the City of Memphis and the Works Progress Administration.

A representative of the civic group pushing for the shell's renovation told Memphis City Council members last week that current plans also call for removing the metal buildings that flank the shell and replacing them with smaller wings that feature back-lit screens and some audio equipment.

"Elvis Presley asked me to sing with him at the Overton Park Shell in Memphis, and I sang 'Cry Cry Cry' and 'Hey Porter.' And from that time on, I was on my way, and I knew it, I felt it and I loved it."- Late singer Johnny Cash"

The mission of our whole organization is to build community and to do that through the performing arts," said Barry Lichterman, who's been at the forefront of the private end of the public-private renovation project.

Shell no, we won't go

Ever since the more than 70-year-old venue was closed by city officials three years ago, citing a fear that the structure was so damaged someone could get hurt, Lichterman has been quietly leading the push to get the shell going again.

Supporters who have signed on for the project include Lee Askew, the founder of Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects in Memphis, who lives in the vicinity of the park.

Last August, a Memphis City Council committee approved a management and renovation agreement with the private group of Overton Park Shell supporters, after previously voting to shell out $500,000 in city funds on the project.

Lichterman told the council's Parks Committee earlier this month that his group anticipates creating a free 50-night concert series once the shell project is up and running. The project also entails, among other things, some decorative touches so the public can enjoy concerts that apparently will be billed as "music under the stars."

"This historic venue has been the epicenter of Memphis entertainment for over seventy years," said local architectural historian Judith Johnson. "And I am sure many citizens of our community share fond memories of this modest outdoor amphitheater with its old-fashioned wooden benches under the blazing sun or starry skies."

Shells 'n' cheeses

Cynthia Buchanan, director of Park Services for the City of Memphis, told council members this month that plans for the shell still have to go before the council for schematic design review before any major steps are taken. And the venue apparently is being renamed to something along the lines of the Levitt Shell for the Performing Arts or even shortened to the Levitt Shell.

That would honor Mortimer Levitt, the late businessman who built an empire of menswear stores around the country. Levitt, who died in 2005, was also an avid patron of the arts, and a New York-based foundation in his name was established in the 1990s to fund arts and other community-related projects.

That group, the Levitt Foundation, also is lending its support to the Overton Shell project.

Meanwhile, there's no question the Midtown concert venue decorated with a brightly colored rainbow still occupies a special place of significance in Memphis music history. Besides Elvis, scores of other nationally recognized acts have played there, from the North Mississippi Allstars to The Allman Brothers.

In 1997, Johnny Cash gave an interview to Terry Gross of National Public Radio in which he recounted playing a date at the shell with Elvis.

"When I started playing concerts, I went out from Memphis to Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee, played the little towns there, and I would go out myself in my car and set up the show or get the show booked in those theaters," said the late singer in the interview.

Soon enough, Cash was invited by Elvis to sing with him at the shell.

"Elvis Presley asked me to sing with him at the Overton Park Shell in Memphis, and I sang 'Cry Cry Cry' and 'Hey Porter,'" Cash recounted on the NPR program. "And from that time on, I was on my way, and I knew it, I felt it and I loved it."

Movie 'Ears Of A King About The Spiritual Elvis.

In the summer of 2007, the movie 'Tears Of A King' will hit the American movie theaters.

In stead of yet another biography, this picture will focus on the spiritual side of Elvis that was very prominent in the 70s.

The search from Elvis to his believe leads him to the Mormons.

This community claims that Elvis was willing to join them thru a baptism, but he never made it.

It's highly doubtfull that the movie wil come to the European theaters.

Restored and revitalized: a new look at Presley, the SUN King. Elvis Presley, wearing his " Mexican sundial " jumpsuit, was nothing but a road warrior in his final year, giving more than 50 shows in five months. Elvis Epitomized U.S.  'Melting -  Pot'  Ideal.

The legacy of America is the blending of black, white and Native American into a whole greater than its individual parts.

The music of America is perhaps its greatest export.

It was built upon the foundation of slaves, poor southern whites, Native American rituals and aristocratic European immigrants. Jazz is America's classical music and it was the first export to give the rest of the world a sense of what America is and what it could potentially represent for the rest of the world.

Yet the ultimate personification of American culture did not come until 30 years after the jazz revolution began. Simply put, America can be summed up in two words: Elvis Presley.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Presley's death and many are reconsidering the role he played in pop culture history.

When he exploded upon the American cultural landscape in 1956, Presley was an enigma to all except the city of Memphis, and possibly New Orleans. This guy performed the most simple, yet most profound, kind of music and elicited a firestorm of response.

There were whites who said he sounded black, blacks who said he didn't sound white but certainly not black. He was what author Stephen Talty called the personification of Mulatto America. In his book of the same name, Talty writes, "The moment when the young Elvis, out of nowhere, started singing 'Blue Moon of Kentucky' in his half-breed style is the pivot on which much of modern culture turns. Rock and roll, youth culture, and all that followed was born that day in Memphis."

What America exported to the rest of the world as a result of this poor, white singer would change societies the world over. According to The Beatles Anthology, John Lennon said, "I'm an Elvis fan because it was Elvis who really got me out of Liverpool."

In an April 2004 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, U2's lead singer, Bono, wrote that Presley had "hips that swivel from Europe to Africa, which is the whole point of America, I guess."

Presley not only reminds us of America's ability to influence the world, but also of our own paradoxes. He made black music more popular than any other form of music in the world, which would lead some to claim that he stole it. But all musicians "steal" from one another; it's in our blood. Presley would merge a gospel hymn like "Amen" with Ray Charles' classic rhythm and blues song "I Got a Woman" with no second thought. Vocally, he would be the anti-drug, yet die addicted to them. Yet it's the cultural paradoxes that made him the influential singer he was.

Bono wrote, "In Elvis, you have the blueprint for rock and roll: The highness - the gospel highs. The mud - the Delta mud, the blues. Sexual liberation. Controversy. Changing the way people feel about the world."

In recent years, Presley has been thought of more as an overweight Vegas circus act than the socially revolutionary figure he actually was. Most rock and hip-hop musicians have no idea how many doors were opened for them by Presley's 1956 cultural explosion. In Presley, the divisions America likes to focus on were temporarily blurred, and a new possibility of seeing and hearing the world was opened up. Hopefully we, as a nation, can be as harmonized socially as Presley was musically and show the rest of the world what America is supposed to be about.

Elvis Presley And  Halle Berry; What Do They Have In Common?  Diabetes.

Celebs in Hollywood, Past and Present: Who Hides Their Diabetes-Who Doesn't; This Sunday on dLifeTV

Halle Berry hardly discussed her diabetes for years.

Elvis Presley kept it a secret. Mary Tyler Moore has it, and is an outspoken advocate for the cause.

dLife Correspondent and Hollywood actor Jim Turner (Arli$$, Bewitched, and others) has type 1 diabetes himself. This Sunday on dLifeTV, Turner examines the 'dream factory' to reveal what Hollywood legends have revealed their diabetes, who has kept it a secret, and who lives with it today.

At a star-studded diabetes gala in California, Halle Berry stated that her disease was " ... a gift..." that " ... gave me the strength and toughness I needed for my life."

From Oscar winners to Emmy winners, Elizabeth Taylor, Dick Clark, Victor Garber, and many more are discussed.

The in-depth segment also features current TV Actor Sam McMurray (over 150 appearances including Friends, King of Queens and The Tracy Ullman Show) and Management Inc.'s Margarit Polak (one of Hollywood's top management firms), who explain what revealing diabetes could mean in a profession that is based just as much upon perception as it is on talent and good looks.

What are the reasons to keep diabetes silent? Tune in Sunday to find out on another new episode of dLifeTV (on CNBC at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT/4:00 PM PT).

Lisa-Marie Engine Not Sold As Jewelry.

In the series 'remarkable Ebay-auctions', you can bid untill tomorrow on one of the four engines from the Lisa-Marie.

After served as a didactical tool in technical schools, the engine was bought by a fan in 2002.

His original idea was to dismantel the engine and use the small parts to manufacture some juwelry.

That plan was dismissed because of the sellers health and he will sell the item as a complete piece.

Startbid is $65.000, but buyers have to pick-up the item by themself.

Less than 24h before the auction ends, there is still no bid, so we think that this item will end in the same lane as the Cadillac and white grand piano.

Elvis And Dakota Fanning Have Everyone All Shook Up.

Entertainment insiders are abuzz about a new controversy, and this time it has nothing to do with Lohan's "water bottle" or Justin's latest ladyfriend.

This time, it's Elvis and Dakota Fanning who have everyone all shook up.

Seems that 12-year-old actress Fanning's role in the movie Hounddog is that of a child who is brutally raped, then turns to the music of Elvis for comfort.

The scene is so brutal that the film's investors actually pulled out, and production had to be stopped until new investors with deep pockets and thicker skin were located.

Despite the controversy — or perhaps because of it — the movie was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

The question now: Is Memphis ready for the dubious attention Hounddog will bring to its most famous dead resident?

Plans For Elvis Themed Cirque Du Soleil  Show Collapse?

Rumors are rampant around Vegas show-business circles this morning that the giant alliance between Cirque du Soleil and Robert FX Sillerman to launch an Elvis Presley show in the new MGM City Center, currently under construction, has collapsed.

Luxe Life will attempt to obtain official Cirque clarification this morning, but staffers learned over the weekend that the two producing entities had allegedly agreed to part company. Before the rumored shakeup and split, plans called for Cirque to develop the Elvis show for the 2009 opening of the three hotel-towered mega-city on 70-acres of land between the Bellagio and the Monte Carlo hotels at center-Strip.

It has only been two weeks since public sales began on the residences at City Center. As of this weekend 1,500 reservations have been taken out of 2,700 total units. The sales staff has added 300 sales in just 14 days from the 1,200 that were snapped up opening weekend, indicating still strong demand for on-Strip condominium projects.

Cirque has been simultaneously developing a new magic show with 'Mindfreak' magician Criss Angel for the Luxor which Luxe Life will have all the latest details on Wednesday. Cirque director Gilles Ste-Croix confirmed the Elvis project to Luxe Life several months ago adding he also wanted to develop an ice-skating themed entertainment spectacular sometime in the future.

New Haven Implodes Downtown Coliseum.

The Coliseum on the morning of the implosion, with much of the structure stripped away.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (1010 WINS) -- Veterans Memorial Coliseum came down in a matter of seconds in a thunderous implosion Saturday morning that drew more than a thousand people who exchanged memories about the sports and concert venue.

The 35-year-old arena, which hosted concerts by Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra as well as minor league hockey and wrestling matches, was razed at 7:50 a.m. to make way for downtown redevelopment.

``I feel sad to see it go,'' Mayor John DeStefano said. ``Just seeing it come down this way, whatever mixed feelings we had, it's still sad.''

Crowds filled a nearby, 10-level parking garage on Temple Street to watch the implosion. It was cold, but skies were clear.

``I've seen many hockey games and concerts at the coliseum, and it's sad to see a landmark in New Haven leaving us,'' said Ed Seward, 50, of East Haven.

Others were happy that the building, which was an eyesore to many, was demolished.

``The first time I came to New Haven, I thought it was so very ugly. I'm glad to see it go. It's not a pretty site,'' said Linda Young, 32, of New Haven.

The implosion, which was delayed for 20 minutes as police and firefighters removed people from unsafe areas, created a huge dust cloud that drifted away with the wind and left behind piles of metal and other debris.

``I thought it was spectacular, said Dagmara Zeidenbergs, 43, of Hamden. ``The most dramatic moment was seeing the smoke dissipate and then having the ruins right before our eyes. It was well worth freezing for.''

There was some unexpected collateral damage. A utility pole at George and Orange streets came down, and a kiosk on George Street fell over. A few windows at nearby buildings were broken.

Officials said there was a 60 mph wind gust during the implosion. Debris forced the temporary closure of the westbound lanes of Route 34, but interstates 95 and 91 were not affected.

Fire Chief Michael Graham said there were no injuries, but someone at the Temple Street garage had an anxiety attack.
Two children from Guilford won the chance to push down the plungers on the detonators. Tori and Ben Staniewicz, 8 and 10 respectively, won a lottery after donating food to the Connecticut Food Bank.

``I really liked being part of history,'' Tori said.

The site will be used for more housing and taxable properties and will enhance New Haven's role as the cultural arts capital of Connecticut.

The new development will create thousands of construction jobs, millions of dollars in new taxes and additional spending by bringing college students and theater visitors downtown, officials say.

Crews trucked in more than 15,000 rented tires to absorb the impact and traffic at the busy Interstate 95/91 interchange was stopped so drivers weren't startled by the noise and vibrations. About 2,000 pounds of explosives were used to bring it down.

Much of the building had already been dismantled before the implosion, which left behind 50-foot piles of rubble.
Within a few months, the debris will be cleared and the area will be paved as a temporary parking lot until New Haven embarks on its next development.

Gateway Community College and Long Wharf Theatre will move from the outskirts of the city to the coliseum site and an adjacent property. Those moves are part of a $230 million development project that also includes stores and up to 280 housing units.

Adam Christoferson, 23, of New Haven, said his father snuck him into an Aerosmith concert at the coliseum when he was 12 years old, after his Little League team lost an all-star game. He was among the onlookers Saturday.
``I hope something good comes to this place,'' he said. ``Everytime I look at it, I'm reminded of life-changing events for me.''

WHERE IS ELVIS?

We all know EPE are now supporting impersonators and holding impersonator events during Elvis Week and
the Birthday celebrations but I for one am growing more and more annoyed as now EPE are selling photos of
these impersonators for $10.00 each through their Elvis Insiders website.

It seems EPE are turning Memphis into a boom town for impersonators. What's next? Will EPE start producing
and selling impersonator merchandise?

Where's Elvis Gone? Elvis are you there? You use to be what it was all about for fans going to Memphis for in
January and August.

Elvis is being hijacked as all the important Elvis Events are becoming more and more impersonator
celebrations.

I personally do not mind attending impersonator shows, and in fact I enjoy many who actually do pay tribute
and give respect to Elvis, but these shows should not be in conjunction with the time fans have to honor,
remember and celebrate Elvis Presley, the greatest entertainer the world will ever know!

And I do not think that EPE should be promoting impersonator shows and merchandise especially when they
cannot be bothered to promote other events by Elvis' costars and associates during Elvis Week!

Ghostly Elvis - King of the Street Artists

Christchurch will be all shook up as "Silver Elvis" and a host of the world's premier street performers hit its streets.

The unique take on the King of Rock 'n' Roll is the creation of Canadian Peter Jarvis, who joins other top international acts in Christchurch today for the start of World Buskers Festival.

The annual summer festival has grown to be one of the largest of its type in the world. This year it will run for 10 days and will include more than 40 invited artists from New Zealand, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Portugal, Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, Britain and Australia.

The performers show off their amazing talents, and try to make some money, at a variety of street locations around Christchurch, while more edgy acts are available to adult audiences at clubs around the city.

Jarvis, a former Canadian disco dance champion, has been performing his swivelling, robotic-style Elvis act around the world since 1999. "A lot of people say I'm an Elvis impersonator. And I say, 'No, I'm an Elvis simulator'."

He uses a combination of silver reflective clothing and expensive make-up to create the robotic effect.

The response everywhere in the world has been overwhelming, he says. "The young kids know it because the Elvis music comes through on the Disney movies and in film culture.

The grandmothers love it because they grew up with it, and teenagers like the robotics and the dance elements."

Last year 250,000 people attended 447 shows over 10 days on the streets and in the clubs of Christchurch.

Muhammad Ali Gives Praise To Elvis On His Birthday!!!

From USA Today:

Today on Muhammad's birthday he was asked what brings him the most pleasure in life and he responded that watching his old fights was one of them and the other great pleasure that makes him happy is watching Elvis'

"He watches film of a lot of his old fights," said Phoenix businessman Jimmy Walker, who has grown close to him in the 13 years since he founded Ali's annual fundraiser, Fight Night, in the battle against Parkinson's.

"He watches Rocky and he listens to Elvis; I always hear Elvis in the background. He really likes Elvis a lot."

As told by Ali:

"Few years ago, Elvis came to my training camp in Pennsylvania, stayed two weeks. Nobody knew about it. One night I said, 'Elvis, do me a favor. I got a guitar.

Please come with me down to Pottsville, little town nearby, this redneck place called Spoonies.'
I called the owner, told him to let us come in the back door.

It was Saturday night, dancin' inside. Elvis went up to the mike, towel over his face, took it off" - and here Ali imitates - "'You ain't nothin' but a hound dog, cryin' all the time.'

Then we flew out the door again. Can you imagine bein' in a little one-horse town and Elvis Presley runs on stage?

Man, people ran all outta the place lookin', gettin' in cars, tryin' to find us. Elvis said 'Champ, I've never done that before in my life'."

UK fans of American Idol can see the new series from 8:30pm on ITV2 this Friday.

And it looks like the American Idol team will be in Memphis next week, so we are pretty sure that Elvis will  feature in next weeks episode.

Of course the early parts of the show are the best, everyone watches for those "singers" who are obviously deluded and give us weeks of entertainment.

There is no word yet on any Elvis themed shows during this years programme but as the show is owned by Mr Sillerman and with Sony/BMG involved, there should be something big and Elvisy planned for what is the  30th Anniversary year of Elvis' passing.

Jury Candidates Selected For Phil Spectors Murdertrial.

The trial that accuses Phil Spector for the murder on actrice Lana Clarkson in his mansion starts in march 2007 en will take 2 to 3 months.

Spector says he is not guilty and tells that Lana commited suicide before his eyes. Spector and Elvis are connected in many ways.

He composed and produced  'You've Lost That Loving Feeling'  together with a lot of 60s demos for Elvis.

He was a good friend of Doc Pomus who wrote 18 hit records for Elvis.

In 1972, Spector introduced his personal bodyguard to Elvis: Mike Stone, who turned out to be Priscilla's partner after the divorce with Elvis.

Spector always admired Elvis: Elvis is sensational.

He can do anything with his voice. He can sing anything you want him to, anyway you tell him.

Memphis Airport Area Needs A Facelift.

Before Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi visited Graceland last June, one local civic booster jokingly suggested blindfolding the visiting dignitary during his trips to and from the airport.

The location of the city's top tourist attraction surely doesn't qualify as a national secret.

However, this booster (who shall remain nameless) thought that Koizumi might be less than impressed by the condition of some of the property near Memphis International Airport.

With good reason. The Brooks Road/Elvis Presley Boulevard corridor is pockmarked with run-down buildings, strip clubs and other eye pollution.

And that creates a bad impression not only for tourists, famous or otherwise, but also for business executives who might be considering plans to relocate or expand their operations here.

There was a time when people probably didn't much care what happened to be built near the airport.

After all, the noise makes the area undesirable for homes and many types of businesses. So just about anything that wanted to be located near the airport was just fine.  That sort of thinking is changing, though.

University of North Carolina business professor John Kasarda said Memphis has great potential as an "aerotropolis" -- that is, a community planned around and heavily oriented toward its airport.

During a stopover in Memphis last month, Kasarda stressed the importance of making the highly traveled corridors leading to and from the airport as attractive as possible.

Kasarda said property along those corridors should be well-maintained, landscaped and even decorated with public art to enhance their "curb appeal."

It will take a great deal of work, but there are those in this community who are interested in creating that kind of environment.

A group of civic and business leaders plan to meet next Wednesday to begin developing a comprehensive plan to improve the areas around our airport.

The effort has attracted some of the business community's heavy hitters, including Smith & Nephew, Medtronic, FedEx, Pinnacle Airlines and Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Other partners include the Memphis Regional Chamber, the Lamar Airways Business Association and the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority.

Part of the solution to the area's problems will most likely require cooperation from the city in the form of stricter code and law enforcement.

Some of the neighborhoods around the airport would also seem like good candidates for some of the anti-blight funding Mayor Willie Herenton mentioned during his New Year's Day speech.

Zoning changes could help steer the right kind of new development to the area, at least over time.

None of this will happen overnight. In fact, this effort is only likely to succeed if those who have expressed interest in cleaning up the area are willing to stick with the project for the long haul.

We don't get foreign heads of state visiting our community every day. When we do, we ought to be proud of what we have to show them.

Auctions For Exclusive Possesions Without Succes.

It seems to be that not all of Elvis possesions are a warranty for making big money.

Lately, there are some exclusive properties that are announced with a lot of publicity but did not find a new buyer.

Last night, the auction of a 1972 Cadillac ended different as expected. Only one bid for $30.000 was placed, but that was not enough to meet the minimum price.

During the holidays, the white grand piano that stood in Graceland for many years was presented as the 'perfect christmas gift'.

Because of the musical history that is linked to the instrument, the owner hoped to break the record of Lennons grand piano (George Michael bought it a few years ago for $2.000.000).

Just before the end of the auction, the highest bid was only $200.000, it dissapeared from the auction site shortly after it ended and untill now, it remains silent if the piano was sold or not.

Elvis.com: A Little Less Conversation Video Clip.

To watch the video-clip Click Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VD3XUA0gz8

Elvis Presley's original recording of this song was part of the soundtrack of his 1968 movie Live a Little, Love a Little.

Later, during a studio session for the pre-recorded portions of his 1968 television special, Elvis laid down a new vocal.

Early on in the planning of the special, parts of this new version were to be used as a thematic linking device for various segments of the show.

It ended up not being used in the television special at all.

On the 2006 single-disc release Elvis: '68 Comeback - Special Edition DVD it is used for the newly produced closing credits with Elvis footage from the special choreographed to it.

But, here it is with the closing credits removed, making it purely a music video. (This version was the basis of a global smash-hit remix single released in 2002.)

Muhammad Ali Turns 65, And Still Enjoys Time With Elvis.

Muhammad Ali turns 65 today, the heavyweight champion who rocked the world is a senior citizen now.

Although he is badly affected by Parkinson's disease his mind remains sharp and clear, and his passion for people hasn't faded with age.

Interestingly visitors to his home in Arizona often find Ali absorbed in the past, watching documentaries on his fights & life - and Elvis Presley movies.

In the seventies Ali and Elvis were friends spending time together. In the past Ali has said, "Elvis had a robe made for me.

I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know."

Thirty five years later both of them now have their images used for marketing brands to younger generations.

Ali sold the rights to his name and likeness for $50 million last year.

Elvis 1972 Custom Cadillac For Sale On Ebay.

Elvis' Cadillac Estate Wagon is up for auction and stands at only $30,000. It is cream with a brown vinyl top, light leather interior and has a small gold plaque on the passenger side door engraved with 'TCB'.

Elvis owned it from 1972 until his death. The car has the original Tennessee title, an insurance document signed by Elvis and a letter from Jack Soden President of EPE describing a colourful story about the history of the car.

Apparently Col Parker's widow said that Elvis owned the car and gave it as a gift to Colonel Parker. The car was in Las Vegas and Elvis would "borrow" the car for trips to Los Angeles and his home in Palm Springs.

Col Parker got tired of tracking the car down, so he told Elvis to take the car back.

After Elvis' final Vegas season in December 1976 the car was sent back to Graceland where it was used to haul around Elvis and his friends. After his death the car was relegated to the staff at Graceland to run errands.

Copies of all the original 1999 Guernsey Auction documents and appraisal comes with the car.

Unlike other cars Elvis owned this one has never been titled to anyone but Elvis (when alive) and Elvis Enterprises (after he died).

So far the auction has had only 1 bid for US$30,000. The reserve has not been met.

Ebay Item number: 280068090720 and there is one day to go for bidding.

Stolen Bible Will Not Be Replaced.

There's still no trace of the bible that got stolen from the Elvis Memorial Chapel in Tupelo, last summer.

The Tupelo committee that looks after the birthplace, has now decided not to replace the bible.

However, there will be at least one bible on display in the new museum.

Also, security cameras are out of the question, as nobody wants to interfere with the visitor's privacy.

The stolen bible has a sentimental value only. Elvis did not write in it, nor was it signed.

Elvis Acetates On Yellow Vinyl

(Reproductions of the two acetates, My Happiness/That’s When Your Heartaches Begin

It Wouldn't Be The Same Without You/I'll Never Stand In Your Way)

The very successful re-prints of the two acetates Elvis made in 1953 and 1954 will be released next week on yellow (Sun Records) vinyl.

There are only be made 300 copies of this soon to be rarity.

100 % reproductions of the two acetates, My Happiness/That’s When Your Heartaches Begin and It Wouldn't Be The Same Without You/I'll Never Stand In Your Way. Elvis made the originals back in 1953 and 1954.

Both acetates are exactly like the original ones. For the first time ever these reproductions of both pre fame Elvis Presley acetates be available in their originally form. Both are made on a 10” vinyl record that will play at 45 rpm.

This is a one of a kind and unique chance to own an exact copy of two of the most historical records of modern music. There will only be a limited amount of 300 copies of each record produced.

In August 1953 did a very young Elvis Presley walk into the local Memphis Recording Service. He paid $ 4.00 to recorded two sides and get them home with him on a one of kind two sided acetate. The songs were the two ballads My Happiness and That’s When Your Heartaches Begin.

Elvis probably hoped that Sam Phillips (the owner of Memphis Recording Service and the founder of the local record label Sun Records) would pay attention to him and that he might get a chance on being invited for a real recording session. Sam wasn’t there that day but Marion Keisker who at that time worked for Sam did the recordings and noted that Elvis was a great ballad singer.

In early 1954 Elvis still haven’t heard from Sam so he decided to go back and pay another $ 4.00 to record two more sides. This time did he record two more ballads titled It Wouldn’t Be The Same Without You and I’ll Never Stand In Your Way.

Nearly the same happened again. In other words Marion was impressed and saved a copy for Sam, but Sam wasn’t. It would take nearly another half year before Sam decided to call the young kid Elvis and invite him in for a try-out and a possible recording session. The rest is history.

For the first time ever will a reproduction of both pre fame Elvis Presley acetates be available in their originally form. Both are made on a 10” vinyl record that will play at 45 rpm. The labels are exactly like the original primitive ones.

The first one My Happiness/That’s When Your Heartaches Begin was originally a white label with typewriting on it. The fun thing is that a leftover of the Sun label from Prisonaires’ Softly And Tenderly (Sun 189) single was flipped over so that the back was used. On the original acetate can you see that thru the label.

Exactly the same is the case with the new reproduction. (maybe not easy to see in the picture, but it is easy to see when you hold the record). The second one It Wouldn’t Be The Same Without You/I’ll Never Stand In Your Way was originally made with a more professional label. This time did Marion used a pre-printed Memphis Recording Service label. Again she used a typewriter to put the song titles and Elvis’ name on it.

Additional Day Added To 2007 Elvis Presley Festival.

TUPELO, Miss. - Concerts, an artist contest and a number of other events are planned during the extended May 31-June 3 Elvis Presley Festival - a hometown salute to the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

Debbie Brangenberg, executive director of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, announced during a Monday meeting of the E-Club that the 2007 festival would have more to offer. The E-Club party at the BancorpSouth Conference Center was held on what would have been the Tupelo native's 72nd birthday.

"We've expanded the festival to Thursday evening with an old-fashioned street party," Brangenberg said.

Officials said the street party will feature performances by Sonny Burgess and the Pacers and the Tiptops, as well as Dean Vegas, an Elvis tribute artist from Australia.

During Friday's festival day, tribute artists will spend the day competing to see who gets to represent Tupelo at the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis during Elvis Week, Aug. 11-17.

That Saturday's events will include a pair of tribute artists performing with the Sweet Inspirations and D.J. Fontana, and a Sunday gospel show will feature the Landmarks and Donny Blackwood and the Imperials.

Headliners for the concerts on June 1-2 will be released later.

Members of the E-Club got to experience David Lee as he channeled Tupelo's favorite son. He wandered the center in a white "Inca gold" jumpsuit, and sang "In the Ghetto," "Blue Suede Shoes," "Love Me" and others.

"I'm handing out scarves to the ladies," Lee said. "I don't give out scarves to the men."

Memphis Airport And Graceland Neighborhoods To Be Upgraded In The Future.

Memphis business leaders including EPE are interested in improving the area near the Airport/Brooks Road corridor. Part of the reason is nearby Graceland which brings an estimated 600,000 visitors to the area every year.

While the neighbourhood around Graceland is middle- to upper-middle class, the drive from the airport to Graceland -- particularly along heavily travelled routes like Brooks and Elvis Presley -- is dotted with empty, outdated and decaying buildings.

When Robert F.X. Sillerman, who paid $100 million for an 85 percent stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises in late 2004, visited Memphis last year to tout his vision for an improved Graceland, he wanted assurances that the city would do its part to improve the area.

"It needs to be because we have around 600,000 people, for the most part getting off at the interstate at Brooks and Elvis Presley, making their way down to Graceland," said Jack Soden, president and CEO of EPE.

"Every step of the way they have to be going, 'Surely we're lost?'

"A lot of them have this vision of Tara and they're coming down Elvis Presley Boulevard saying, 'It can't be here.' But, you know, Graceland tends to save the day."

EPE has been buying property along Elvis Presley Boulevard in anticipation of making millions of dollars worth of improvements to the area. "We've got an ownership group with very deep pockets and significant intention to invest in the future of the Elvis legacy," said Soden.

"If we make Graceland as big a draw as we think it can be, we are going to suffer if we don't control the doughnut of land around us."

"We've been working and made some incremental benefits," said Dexter Muller, senior vice president for community development at the Chamber.

"What we've realised is we've got to step it up a notch."

Hip-shakin' Birthday Salute To The King Of Rock.

D.J Fontana

Some say there was only one Elvis Presley but, in truth, there were many.

Aside from the sneering image of teenage insurrection, Elvis was the all-American boy in G.I. fatigues; the pastel-adorned pretty boy in a string of B-movies; the leather-clad rocker with a late-'60s social conscience; and the Las Vegas icon in rhinestone jumpsuits.

All those eras of Presley were saluted at the Merrillville Star Plaza during Omar Farag's annual Elvis Birthday Tribute.

"I'll be doing the movie years," said Chicago's Rick Saucedo, who has portrayed Presley since 1972 and who also played The King in the Broadway musical,

"The Legend Lives On." Joining Saucedo in representing various periods of Presley's career will be Donny Edwards, as the young 1950s Presley, and Matt Lewis as the leather-clad Presley of the late 1960s.

"I close the show by recreating Elvis' mid-'70s Las Vegas years," said Pennsylvania-born Shawn Klush, who has impersonated Presley since the 1980s.

Klush said he orders his jumpsuits from the same wardrobe company Presley used to the tune of $3,500 to $5,000 per suit.

Adding authenticity to the Star Plaza concert is Presley's original drummer, D.J. Fontana, and his vocal group The Sweet Inspirations.

"We'll sing backup for them (the impersonators) just like we did for Elvis," singer Estelle Brown said."One thing about Elvis that I loved was how he always took time at every show to let the audience know who we all were," Brown said.

"He was a wonderful man. He never acted like a boss. Elvis called us his 'family' and that's how he treated everyone who worked with him, like family."

D.J Fontana also commented on Presley's kind and generous ways, even before he became rich and famous.

"They weren't making much, but Elvis still paid me better than 'The Hayride", Fontana said of early shows he played with Presley after meeting him on the Saturday night radio show 'The Louisiana Hayride'.

"Elvis wasn't too well known at the time. He had a couple of records ('That's All Right' and 'Blue Moon of Kentucky') that got him some shows in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.

They did those records as a trio with just two guitars and a bass, but they had a really great sound," the 74-year-old drummer said.

"Elvis wanted to try the songs with drums, and asked me if I would sit in with them on their
'Hayride' ppearances," Fontana said. "I played with them and tried to stay out of their way (musically) and Elvis liked the way it sounded.

They asked me if I wanted to do some dates with them in Texas and, since I was only playing the 'Hayride' on Saturday nights, I had plenty of free time to go with them."

Shortly afterward, Fontana became a full-time member of Presley's band, along with guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black.

"I know that Elvis would be very flattered by these talented young men and how they portray him so respectfully," Brown said.

The Elvis Birthday Tribute Celebration featured Shawn Klush, Rick Saucedo, DJ Fontana, Sweet Inspirations, Matt Lewis and Donny Edwards.

The Quartet That Almost Was On CD.

Donnie Sumner has just released a new CD, called “All In The Family.”

It features his uncle JD Sumner, his son Jeff, his brother Pete and himself. In the liner notes, Donnie explains why he put this special CD together: “On Wednesday, before The Stamps were to leave on Thursday for what would be J.D.’s final trip, Marty, (my Wife) and I were sitting with J.D. in his car listening to the final mix of The Stamps latest record that I had just completed. (Released two months later as, ”The Final Sessions”).

Suddenly, J.D. got really serious and said to me, “Duck,” (that’s my family nickname) “I’ve had a dream ever since Elvis died and I’m gonna rearrange the Stamps as of January 1.

This is how I want to do it. I wanna keep Rick (Strickland) on tenor, put Ed (Hill) in charge of the office and booking; and I’m gonna replace Ed (Enoch) with Jeff (Donnie’s son).

Also, I want you to join me and do the baritone part.” Uncle JD never got to realize his dream but this CD is as close to it as possible.

Wanda Jackson Pays Tribute To Elvis.

Wanda Jackson has been in the music whirl for parts of five decades. She's in no way coy when it comes time to talk about longevity.

"I'm glad it still happens. I'm enjoying a second career here in my later years," she said, laughing, during a phone interview from her home in Oklahoma City.

Jackson, 69, signed to the Decca label when she was a junior in high school. She started professional life as a country singer and went on to hit with seminal rockabilly songs such as "Mean Mean Man," "Riot in Cellblock #9," "Fujiyama Mama" and "Let's Have a Party." Jackson also became known as the first sex symbol of country music because her stage attire, sewn by her mother, leaned away from western wear and toward glamorous gowns. In the early days of her career, Jackson was given a boost by Hank Thompson. She has influenced a couple of generations of roots rockers, male and female.

"Longevity has to do with the music, but, if we knew the formula for getting a hit we could write 'White Christmas' all day long," she said. "In '56, '57, '58, I couldn't get any radio airplay. Now the songs that I couldn't get airplay with are the songs that are selling. But I've been a stickler for keeping my music pure. I received the (National Endowment for the Arts) award in 2005 and that award goes to people who are keeping their art pure. I want to do my songs exactly like people remember them." Saturday night, Jackson will do her songs at Sam's Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson St. Doors open at 8 p.m. The show starts at 9 with The Tennessee Rounders and the Texas Sapphires opening. The Texas Sapphires also will back Jackson. Tickets for the all-ages show cost $15 at the door.

Jackson also dated Elvis Presley in the mid-'50s when they were touring together. Jackson was about 17, Presley about 20 when the man who was to become King gave Jackson his ring to wear on a chain around her neck. Presley also encouraged Jackson, now known as the Queen of Rockabilly, to sing rock 'n' roll instead of country. Jackson's latest CD, "I Remember Elvis," is a tribute to the King.

"To me, the only natural thing to do was sing the songs he did when I toured with him," Jackson said. "I started with my favorites and then also did a few of his songs from the early '60s." The disc, produced by guitarist Danny B. Harvey, includes "Good Rockin' Tonight," "Blue Moon of Kentucky," "Heartbreak Hotel" and more plus some of Jackson's stories about Elvis.

"I knew I wanted to tell the stories," Jackson said. "And I've always done a tribute to Elvis in the shows. In the beginning, there'd never been anybody like him. He had a wild spirit, he was flirty onstage, he was sexy and good looking and he had a beautiful voice." Jackson, like other American roots musicians, for years had more success in Europe.

"In Europe, they highly respect the older people in the arts," she said. "In '95, I found a new audience in America and they found me. But from '85 until '95, I toured in Scandinavia and Western Europe several times a year. Europe kept me alive.

In '95 I recorded with Rosie Flores (on the 'Rockabilly Filly' CD) and did a five-week tour with Rosie and now I'm working more and more in America." Live, Jackson doesn't just go through the motions. She has an electric personality, a repertoire that lends itself to singing along and a wardrobe that still shouts "showtime!"

"I'd like to do a lot more current things, but that's not what people come to hear," she said. "I stick with rockabilly and country. Of late, I've had albums to work with so I'll do excerpts from the latest albums. My audience is now the younger generation and it's amazing how they know these songs."

The singer, who was born blond, dyed his hair jet black from his 20s.

Marilyn Monroe came second in the poll of more than 4,000 adults.

Audrey Hepburn’s “up-do” style, made famous by the 1961 film Breakfast At Tiffany’s, was third.

Official Elvis Channel On YouTube.Com

Recently, EPE posted on YouTube.com two promotional videos - one for Elvis: The Ultimate Film Collection (DVD set) and one for Christmas at Graceland 2006.  EPE has now started up an official channel for Elvis videos on YouTube.com called Elvis Presley Central.  Direct link:  http://www.youtube.com/elvisvideo  The focus will be on Elvis Himselvis as we add Elvis performance videos and other Elvis material on a regular basis.

Elvis Presley Central debuted yesterday with Having Fun With Elvis In Burbank, the "funny reel" that is a bonus feature on the 2006 release Elvis: '68 Comeback Special - Deluxe Edition DVD.  Next up on Elvis Presley Central will be a special music video for A Little Less Conversation, which Elvis Insiders are now having a "first look" at in the members-only area of their site.

We hope you will enjoy Elvis Presley Central and help make it a popular channel on YouTube.com by visiting often and telling all your friends about it.  Your support could also help Elvis have a big hit video on YouTube from time to time.  Elvis Presley Central is one of many new ways to take Elvis and his work to new audiences.  We also hope it will be a source of enjoyment and pride for his existing fan base as well.

Are You Lonesome Tonight as recorded by Elvis in 1960 is a 2007 Grammy Hall of Fame inductee.

Elvis Last Car Released From Concrete Tomb.

The last car that was bought by Elvis, a Lincoln, was released from a concrete tomb where it was stored during the last 20 years.

Dean Lewis from Geargia bought the car at a auction where it was presented by Larry Geller. The reason why it was stored in a closed tomb is unknown.

Lucky enough, the cardealer realised that the car was rotting away and decided that Elvis 72th birthday was de perfect moment to tear down the tomb and restorate the car.

Once the car will look as new, Lewis will decide if he will sell the car. Newreport on 11Alive.com

Additional day added to Tupelo Elvis Festival 2007.

Concerts, an artist contest and a number of other events are planned during the extended May 31-June 3 Elvis Presley Festival - a hometown salute to the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

Major New Elvis Documentary Series Planned.

A major new documentary series on Elvis Presley, similar to The Beatles' Anthology, is being planned for the 30th anniversary of his death.

The Elvis Presley Estate which runs Elvis' business affairs and includes his widow Priscilla, is presently working on the series which will include never-before-seen footage.

According to the New York Post, the Elvis anthology is due out in 2007 - 30 years after Presley died aged 42 on August 17, 1977.

The Beatles' Anthology initially aired on television in 1995 before being released in DVD format with added footage.

Meanwhile, the estate and BMG this week releases two new DVD sets of two of Elvis' most historic TV appearances in America.

Comment from EPE: We do plan to do a major, long-form Elvis documentary.

No release date has been set, but it definitely will not come about in 2007.

Elvis-Nixon Meeting Has Fans Shook Up.

Decades After Meeting, Display of Relics From Elvis-Nixon Meeting Has Fans All Shook Up

YORBA LINDA, Calif. Jan 8, 2007 (AP)— The meeting between two of the most improbable cultural icons of the 1970s lasted all of 30 minutes, but it has fascinated the nation for years.

A photo of a cloaked and bejeweled Elvis Presley solemnly shaking hands with a grim-faced President Nixon remains the No. 1 requested document from the National Archives, nearly four decades after the secret meeting took place on Dec. 21, 1970.

Now, on what would be the King's 72nd birthday, the Richard Nixon Presidential Library & Birthplace is giving the curious public a good, long look at the relics of the coming together of The King and The President and it's got Elvis fans all shook up.

The free exhibit Monday includes the outfit Elvis wore (a black velvet overcoat, a gold-plated belt and black leather boots); Nixon's outfit (a gray woolen suit, tie and size 11 1/2 black shoes); letters; and a World War II .45-caliber Colt revolver that Elvis gave to Nixon.

"The two of them together somehow is almost incomprehensible," said Bud Krogh, Nixon's former deputy counsel who set up the impromptu meeting that day 36 years ago. "The king of rock and the president of the United States shaking hands in the Oval Office doesn't compute for a lot of people."

The chain of events that led to the meeting began when a stretch limousine carrying Elvis pulled up outside the White House. One of his guards handed over a letter from Elvis addressed to Nixon requesting a meeting to discuss how the rock star could help Nixon fight drugs including getting credentials as a "federal agent at large."

"I will be here as long as it takes to get the credentials of a Federal Agent," Elvis wrote. "I have done an in-depth study of drug abuse and Communist brainwashing techniques and I am right in the middle of the whole thing where I can and will do the most good."

The Secret Service agents alerted Krogh. A self-confessed Elvis fan, Krogh met with Elvis, decided he was sincere and scrambled to get him into a noon meeting with Nixon.

About 2 1/2 hours later, Elvis walked into the Oval Office wearing his flamboyant outfit, as well as sunglasses and two huge medallions. But when Elvis entered the Oval Office, Krogh recalls, he froze.

"I think he was just awed by where he found himself. I ended up having to help him walk across over to the president's desk," he said.

Elvis and Nixon talked for about 30 minutes, during which Elvis showed Nixon pictures of his daughter and a pair of cufflinks given to him by Spiro Agnew. He also showed Nixon police badges from around the country and asked again for a badge from the U.S. Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

Nixon agreed to give him the badge but only after learning that the chief of the narcotics bureau had turned down the same request earlier that day and told him the only person who could overrule his decision was the president.

"Oh man, we were set up! But it was fun," said Krogh. "He said all the right words about trying to do the right thing and I took him at his word, but I think he clearly wanted to get a badge and he knew the only way he was going to get it."

At Elvis' request, the meeting remained secret for more than a year until The Washington Post broke the story on Jan. 27, 1972.

Since then, the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace has more than made up for Elvis' ruse: T-shirts, cups, notepads and watches bearing the famous black-and-white photo remain the top-selling items at the museum's gift shop.

"We've known for years that that photograph is an icon image," said Sandy Quinn, the museum's assistant director.

"It is The President and The King."

Newly Renovated Elvis Birthplace Museum in Tupelo Debuts Today.

On the 72nd anniversary of the birth of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock’n’Roll, the Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation formally opened and dedicated the totally renovated Birthplace Museum to Elvis fans worldwide and to the memory of his personal friend Janelle McComb, whose personal collection of memorabilia given to her by Elvis is highlighted in the museum.

The quarter of a million dollar project, completed last week, is the result of a joint funding by the City of Tupelo, the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Foundation. Foundation Chairman Henry Dodge said, “This is truly a world class museum, one that Elvis fans worldwide will want to see, in which the people of Tupelo can take great pride, and a symbol of continued cooperation to keep Elvis’ birthplace the leading tourist venue in Mississippi.”

The project was designed by Design 500 Inc., of Memphis, and built by Germantown Contracting, both of whom specialize in museum projects. Scott Blake, the Design 500’s exhibit designer for the renovations to the Birthplace Museum, says, “The museum tells an intriguing story of Elvis' boyhood in Tupelo. Using the extensive Janelle McComb collection shown in a new light, the exhibit explores the poor urban neighborhood of Old Saltillo Road and the 1930's world of garment factories and wholesale grocers. The young couple, Gladys and Vernon, eloped to Pontotoc to get married and borrowed the three dollars for the marriage license fee. The visitor will hear about the strong influences of gospel, country, and blues in the young boy's life. They will meet his childhood friends who played in the hills behind the simple two room house. In sum, they will understand all of the powerful influences that joined to make this pauper prince the King of Rock and Roll. The final portion of the exhibit shows Elvis as the entertainer and concludes with the famous 1956 Homecoming Concert a decade after leaving town with his family destitute and out of work.”

Blake says, "Our hope is to capture the gritty soul of Elvis childhood, countered by the embrace of his family and friends, and to hear again the sights and sound that made Elvis Elvis."

The Birthplace, museum, chapel and gift shop are open to the public seven days a week, from 9 until five Monday through Saturday, and from one until five on Sundays.

Foundation Executive Director Dick Guyton said, “We are keeping our current fee structure of $7 for adults to visit both the museum and Elvis birthplace house. Elvis’ fans and this community are supportive of our efforts to ensure that this will always be a source of pride to the people of Tupelo and of Mississippi. We encourage everyone to visit and see all of the additions we have made over the past few years, including the Fountain of Life, Story Wall, Walk of Life, Elvis at 13 statue and now the totally rebuilt museum.”

Write a letter to Elvis.

An upcoming documentary film investigates the myth that Elvis Presley is alive.

The filmmaker asks fans to submit letters that will be compiled, published and delivered to Elvis Presley family members.

Is Elvis alive? If so, he will be celebrating his 72nd birthday on Monday in isolation. Many conspiracy theorists and fans still believe that Elvis is alive. Filmmaker Adam Muskiewicz wants Elvis fans to reach out to The King by writing handwritten letters to Elvis.

Muskiewicz will publish the letters in a book entitled Letters To Elvis. The book will be released in conjunction with his film, The Truth About Elvis.

According to Muskiewicz, "We are nearly done filming. We've offered a $3,000,000 reward for proof that Elvis is alive, and the evidence has been staggering. We want to give fans the chance to tell Elvis that he is loved and missed."

Muskiewicz has enlisted top producers Dan Bliss and Warren Zide, the producer of the American Pie and Final Destination franchises. Bliss says, "Adam is taking a very serious look at this myth, while still being respectful of the Presley legacy. This is the biggest myth in the history of pop culture."

Muskiewicz is inviting fans worldwide to send in personal letters to Elvis.
He says, "It's important that the letters be handwritten and sincere. This is the only opportunity people will have to tell Elvis how they feel."
Copies of the book will be sent to Graceland and to living relatives of Elvis. If Elvis is alive, he will have the chance to read these letters.

Letters To Elvis and The Truth About Elvis will be released in August 2007, in time for the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's supposed death.

Lonely Street movie appears to be getting very lonely.

A comedy-thriller film adaptation of the Bubba Mabry P.I. mystery, Lonely Street, by Steve Brewer, appears to be in limbo.

Directed by Peter Ettinger and starring Jay Mohr and Robert Patrick, the Elvis flavored film apparently finished post-production in 2006 but online listings show no scheduled release date yet announced.

The film description is: A private detective in New Mexico is hired by a man to bodyguard a visiting celebrity from an overzealous fan.

The celebrity turns out to be Elvis--determined to keep a low profile--and the fan turns out to be a sleazy tabloid reporter--determined to break the story that the King is still alive.

The P.I.'s predicament grows darker when the reporter winds up dead in a motel room, and he becomes the number one suspect after Elvis and the man who hired him skip town.

KING CREOLE A FILM FIT FOR A KING.

King Creole Theatrical Trailer

While much has been said -- some good, mostly bad -- about the film career of Elvis Presley (31 features and two exceptional documentaries), there are few who would argue about his finest film performance, that of a high school dropout with a penchant for trouble in the 1958 classic "King Creole."

Throughout his career, the singer, who would have celebrated his 72nd birthday on Monday, often cited this movie as his best work -- the kind of film he wanted to star in, not the musical dreck that became his Hollywood trademark due to career mismanagement by Col. Tom Parker.

"Creole" was Presley's fourth feature film -- he had already struck box-office gold with "Love Me Tender" (1956), "Loving You" (1957) and "Jailhouse Rock" (1957, cited by many critics as another of Presley's finest film performances). But"Creole" revealed a new dimension of Presley.

He had studied his matinee idols -- Marlon Brando, James Dean -- well. He could portray the tortured soul with the best of them, even if he had to sing a song or two to satisfy his record label. "Hard-Headed Woman" was typical Presley rock, while "Trouble" was a smoky, bluesy romp he could sink his chops into.

Presley was inducted into the Army the same year "Creole" was released, part of Parker's plan to ensure Elvis' fans would not forget him while he was serving in Germany.

Michael Curtiz, who directed "Casablanca," was at the helm of the film (based on the Harold Robbins novel A Stone for Danny Fisher), which found Presley working in a sleazy New Orleans nightclub, juggling romantic interests with mob moll Carolyn Jones, threats with her two-bit gangster beau played by Walter Matthau, fisticuffs with the gangster's henchman played by Vic Morrow, and redemptive love with a good-girl waitress played by Dolores Hart (who previously had starred with Presley in "Loving You.").

Presley was a mere 22 years old when his character, Danny Fisher, exchanged some very sultry onscreen dialogue with the trampy Ronnie (Jones):

Ronnie: "Maybe we'll meet some place by accident."

Danny: "You tell me where you think the accident will take place and I'll make sure I'm there."

Film noir never had a better line.

Shot in glorious black and white, the film is awash in shadows and smoke. The characters are dark, brutal, even ugly. The streets of New Orleans unforgiving. And Presley never had a finer moment on film.

"King Creole" is available on DVD from Paramount Home Video.

Elvis and Nixon.

Nixon library will bring the meeting between the president and the King to life.

This picture has made it to the most demanded picture from the national archives.

SANTA ANA, Calif. - President Richard Nixon wore a tasteful gray suit. Elvis Presley sported well-coifed sideburns, a flamboyant black-velvet suit, boots, a wing-collared white shirt and a gold, diamond-studded belt.

The two getups were worn during the pair's legendary secret get-together at the Oval Office in 1970 - a bizarre presidential meeting that has since been the subject of a book and movie.

The clothing will be displayed at the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace beginning Monday, which would have been Elvis' 72nd birthday. Nixon's presidential assistant Bud Krogh, who set up the historic meeting and later wrote a book about it, will speak about the event.

The outfits haven't been together since the famous meeting, library spokesman Sandy Quinn said. Elvis' was kept at Graceland. Nixon's was held by the National Archives.

The rock star-president meeting was held just as each was coping with professional challenges. Nixon was grappling with the Vietnam War, which had made him unpopular among youth. Presley was fixated on toppling the Beatles, who had stolen his spotlight and whom he said were promoting a drug culture.

The photo of the two shaking hands in the Oval Office is the most requested item at the National Archives.

The exhibit is a departure from some of the library's more serious displays. It will help the library fulfill one of its goals, "to show that U.S. history is not only important but provocative and fun," Timothy Naftali, who was chosen in April as the library's first federal director, said.

On the morning of Dec. 21, 1970, Presley personally delivered a five-page letter, written on American Airlines stationary, to the northwest gate of the White House to request a meeting with Nixon.

Presley, then 35, requested to be appointed a "federal agent-at-large" in the war on drugs, according to the National Archives.

"I have done an in-depth study of drug abuse and Communist brainwashing techniques, and I am right in the middle of the whole thing where I can and will do the most good," he wrote.

Nixon aide Dwight Chapin called Krogh.

"Dwight told me, `The King is here,'" Krogh, then 31 and a presidential assistant, said. "I looked at the president's schedule and said there weren't any kings on his schedule.

He said: `No, not just any two-bit king, the King of Rock. He's here!'"

Krogh arranged the meeting and made a list of talking points for Nixon, including an anti-drug message for young people.

Within two hours, Presley and his bodyguards were ushered inside the White House.

Presley gave Nixon a World War II commemorative Colt .45-caliber pistol with seven silver bullets, a gift Krogh accepted on the president's behalf since guns were not allowed in the Oval Office.

Nixon gave Elvis a specially prepared badge from the Bureau of Narcotic and Dangerous Drugs.

Both presents will also be on display.

The two spoke about Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie, and the Beatles' popularity. Elvis told the president the rock group had made disparaging remarks about America.

Some have speculated that Elvis was under the influence of drugs during the meeting.

"He was scratching himself during the meeting, but he said he had a rash that was bothering him for a couple days so I didn't think anything of it," Krogh said. "I never had any idea that he had a prescription-drug problem."

New Tupelo Museum Is Ready

The ‘new’ Tupelo Museum, next to the birth house, is ready.

Designer Scott Blake, who designed museums for the Kremlin and the Vatican, focuses on the story of Elvis' life in Tupelo using dramatic themes, artifacts, audio and video clips.

Two-thirds of the exhibit highlight young Elvis and use muted colors and textures to tell that tale, while the last third showcases Elvis as a performer with vibrant hues and backdrops & original stage outfits to accentuate that part of his life.

A special eyecatcher is a display signifying the special friendship between Janelle McComb and Elvis.

McComb donated most of the memorabilia for the museum, which was given to her as a gift by Presley himself. Pictures are not yet available, as thenew museum opens on the 8th of January.

Timi Yuro's Most Famous Fan Was Probably  Elvis Presley.

Here is a most famous and beautiful song Smile (from the Chaplin movie "Modern Times") performed by the great Timi Yuro.

Dinah Washington once said of Timi Yuro: "Timi's voice doesn't come from the throat, but from the heart. She doesn't just sing the song, she lives it."

Timi Yuro's most famous fan was probably Elvis Presley, who commanded his own table at the casino where Yuro sang in the late 1960's.

P.J. Proby knew Timi Yuro from their time in Hollywood, and often mentions it during his performances of "Hurt".

Enjoy Timi's powerful and soulful voice!

A Poem Elvis Wrote In 1977.

Poem written by Elvis in 1977.  Found tucked in a Bible Elvis gave to Jim Hill (Wanda's husband) for his birthday.

Translated:

I sit here alone, thinking, watching how the moon’s light glows.

Meditating upon the garden water there below, I’ve only just begun to spend my life, to have some fun.

But as I think of all I’ve lost, the hurt hangs on; so slow to go.

I’m now full grown and called a man-but really, is that what I am?

My heart's so young, it feels like new. To think I’m getting old makes me very blue.

Lord, Just let me laugh and be the clown I am.  Please give me dignity and grace-

So I can have the strength to face… These final days that seems to race…

Let me have some time to do all I can. So facing death won’t be such a task.

Please Lord, thy will be done, that’s all I ask.

(notice at the bottom of the letter Elvis has written "Psalms 38")

VIDEO: Behind the Scenes at Graceland, Part II - Bob Shields reports

It's the home of the King of Rock'n Roll, one of America's brightest stars.

Graceland is a home away from home for many visitors, some just in for the holidays to see how a rock, country and gospel legend once lived. The home welcomes more than 6,000 visitors annually, and everyone from college football players to news photographers show up during one of the most-visited times of the season.

The Southern-style colonial mansion was built in 1939, and this year for Christmas, Graceland's decorators decided to go for a recognizable color for their curtains. Usually, each year during the Liberty Bowl, the visiting teams and their fans converge on Graceland as their first stop during their tour of Elvis's city.

When Elvis wanted to relax on his property, he would often go out to his horse barn and go for a ride on horseback. All of the current horse at Graceland are descendants of the horses Elvis owned. Another building on the estate is the Racquetball Building. Elvis has received so many awards since his death, that the Racquetball Building houses all of his posthumous gold and mulit-platinum awards. Elvis is the only artist to have ever been inducted in to the Rock'n Roll, Country Music, and Gospel Hall of Fame. The building also features the Elvis Stamp, the highest-selling stamp of all time.

Elvis's "TV Room" features three television sets lined up together, because he heard former President Lyndon Johnson had three televisions, so he set them up so he could watch three football games at once. Another famous room is the "Jungle Room," a room that features green shag carpet on the ceiling.

Graceland is open to all ages, as most of the visitors are younger than 35. It's no question that from Elvis's still growing fanbase that his legend will be respected for years to come.

Elvis! Grace And Grit, On View Through January 8.

Before the days of Elvis wannabes and before the plethora of Elvis look-alikes, there was Elvis. Young and feisty, talented and sexy, Elvis Presley revolutionized pop music in the late 1950s and early 1960s. His trailblazing renditions of blacks-only blues with rock shot him to the top of the charts and into the heart of America’s teen culture. Elvis’ signature hip roll, considered too risqué for prime time TV, prompted the famous order (to CBS cameramen of The Ed Sullivan Show) to photograph the King of Rock and Roll from the waist up.

The Port Arthur Historical Society is proud to present a new temporary exhibition that reveals the early years of Presley’s superstardom (hips and all!) through his many CBS appearances. Elvis! Grace and Grit, a fine art photography exhibition from the CBS Archives, features thirty-three candid and on-air photographs documenting Presley’s meteoric rise to fame. The exhibition opened with a 50s themed reception on November 12, 2006 and will remain on view through January 8, 2007.

Elvis! Grace and Grit was curated by John Filo, director of photo operations at CBS. Filo is a former photo editor for Newsweek and deputy picture editor of Sports Illustrated. He won the 1971 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography. His photo of the student killed at Kent State University was one of the most compelling images of the Vietnam era. Filo is currently responsible for the photo coverage of CBS’s current programming and is responsible for the marketing of the 30-million image CBS Photo Archive.

In addition to the traveling photographs, the exhibition also features some fascinating local flavor with memorabilia from area collectors including photographs and newspaper clippings dating back to when Presley visited southeast Texas with the Louisiana Hayride in 1955. Presley performed at the Sportatorium in Beaumont and Woodrow Wilson School in Port Arthur long before he became a household name.

The opening reception was a flashback to the 50s with a special guest musical performance given by child phenom and Elvis admirer Mark Klein AKA "The Little King," as well as a variety of 50s inspired activities for young and old including a hula hoop contest, hands-on crafts and prizes awarded for best costume. In addition, the Museum held a drawing to give away a limited edition photograph from the exhibition. Please see photos from the opening event at the bottom of this page.

On loan from ArtVision Elvis! Grace & Grit will remain on view in the Museum’s Dunn Hayes Rotating Gallery through January 8, 2007, what would have been Presley’s 72nd birthday. Patrons and collectors will have an opportunity to purchase rare photographs from the traveling exhibition as well as a one-of-a-kind art guitar created by artist Kathy Parker through the duration of the show.

This exhibition is made possible in part by a grant from Southeast Texas Arts Council.

Elvis Acetates On Yellow Vinyl.

Re-prints of the two acetates Elvis made in 1953 and 1954

The very successful re-prints of the two acetates Elvis made in 1953 and 1954 will soon be released on yellow (Sun Records) vinyl. There will only be made 300 copies of this soon to be rarity.

This is the text for the black vinyl editions. The new ones will be exactly like them, but of course in yellow vinyl:

This is 100 % reproductions of the two acetates, My Happiness/That’s When Your Heartaches Begin and It Wouldn't Be The Same Without You/I'll Never Stand In Your Way, that Elvis did in 1953 and 1954.

Deep Purple On Elvis.

Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan recently spoke to Classic Rock magazine for its latest issue in which the stars of rock (plus some assorted rock-loving comedians, sportmen, MPs and other riff raff) nominate their "rock icons."

The following is Gillan's explanation for why Elvis Presley belongs on the list:

"I lost interest in Elvis Presley after he made the 'Blue Hawaii' film [in 1961] and went to Las Vegas, but in his prime nobody could touch him.

"Michael Parkinson once asked the famous New Zealand soprano Kiri Te Kanawa about the greatest voice she'd ever heard, probably expecting her to name [Luciano] Pavarotti or Maria Callas, but she said, 'The young Elvis Presley, without any doubt.'

"Elvis's voice was unique. Like so many others, he had natural, technical ability, but there was something in the humanity of his voice, and his delivery. He was very influenced by Southern blues, and he helped to prove that you could have this bizarre mixture of country 'n' western, blues and folk music. Recordings were very honest in those days, and they stand up remarkably well.

"I was an avid collector of Elvis' early stuff; for a young singer he was an absolute inspiration. I soaked up what he did like blotting paper. It's the same as being in school — you learn by copying the maestro. His personality was also extremely endearing. The shaking of his hips was deemed sensational back then, but unlike Little Richard or Chuck Berry, his interviews were very self-effacing. He came over as gentle and was generous in his praise of others.

"It was immaterial to me that Elvis didn't write his own songs. Those were very different days, and he selected whatever suited him best from material supplied by publishing houses and teams of writers — all of whom were extremely conscious of his style of delivery.

"Although he appeared in some awful movies, Elvis could also be pretty damn good as an actor. 'Love Me Tender' [1956] and 'Jailhouse Rock' [1957] were both really good but 'King Creole' [1958] was my all-time favourite. Gradually, though, his youthful vigour and uninhibited style began to ebb away. For me, he sang the last time in the movie 'GI Blues' [1960].

"Along with the rest of DEEP PURPLE I once had the chance to meet Elvis. The rest of the guys went along, but I couldn't stand seeing my hero after he'd changed so much. Those early records are still incredible, though. They can re-mix them and make them hits for the younger generation, and Elvis will always be the King. The reason is simple: He was the greatest singer that ever lived."

Library Journal Reviews Jerry Schilling Memoir.

"In 1954, Schilling had a chance meeting with Elvis Presley at a Memphis pickup football game. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, which eventually led to Schilling's entry into the strange and exciting Presley entourage in 1964. Here, the author vividly describes meeting the Beatles, Eric Clapton, Richard Nixon, and basketball great Wilt Chamberlain; tripping on LSD with the King; and sitting in shock with Elvis as they watched the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. on television.

Throughout, Schilling treats Elvis evenhandedly, focusing on their friendship but not ignoring the drug problems, isolation, and creative vacuum that killed Presley. The King comes alive once again as a romantic, sensitive, caring, and sometimes childish and moody man in a bubble.

Refreshingly, the author reveals as much about himself as Elvis, showing how the tinsel lifestyle transformed him from a well-meaning, wide-eyed, obedient kid to a divorced adult wanting freedom and a career. Schilling has captured the aura and grim realities of life with one of the most important American icons of the 20th century.

One can only hope that he will follow with a book about his post-1977 life as a manager of the Beach Boys, Jerry Lee Lewis, Rick Nelson, and Billy Joel.

Highly recommended for all types of readers.-David P. Szatmary, Univ. of Washington, Seattle Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information".

CONTROVERSIAL HOUNDDOG HEADS FOR SUNDANCE.

12-year-old actress Dakota Fanning

Maybe the most controversial film heading to this month's Sundance Film Festival concerns the rape of a 12-year-old girl while Elvis Presley is heard singing in the background.

"HoundDog," written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, is already getting more advance attention than "Chapter 27," the film about Mark David Chapman murdering John Lennon.

That's because the character played by 12-year-old actress Dakota Fanning, who made her mark six years ago in "I Am Sam," is raped onscreen.

Kampmeier doesn't show the actual rape, but it's quite clear, from sources who've seen the film, that as scripted and directed, the scenes in question are going to cause as big if not bigger uproar than when Brooke Shields played a pre-pubescent prostitute in Louis Malle's classic "Atlantic City."

In a terrific piece in the new Premiere magazine, Fanning's agent, Cindy Osbrink, tells writer Henry Cabot Beck: "I've been working with Dakota since she was five, and this is something we haven't seen her do.

Something that really challenged her talent. 'HoundDog' was one of the best experiences of her life, a story that needs to be told, and she tells it with her soul as no one else can."

Apparently there are already a number of Web sites protesting this film, and lots of comments on the Internet
Movie Data Base lamenting the potential exploitation of Fanning.

ELVIS ESTATE COULD HALT MOVIE.

What could do the movie in, though, is the soundtrack of Elvis Presley records.

It's unclear whether the Presley estate will approve the licensing of the ultimate pop idol's voice as the film's backdrop, or even if the writers of the song "Hound Dog" — Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller —won't do something to keep their famous
composition out of it.

But throughout the film, the troubled girl (Fanning) finds a safe haven from her ordeal in the music and movement of Elvis Presley.

No producers are credited yet for "HoundDog," by the way, but the Premiere article does cite Jean Gatien as having raised funds and lists her as "daughter of New York club owner Peter Gatien."

For the record, Peter Gatien — implicated in the famous nightclub murder of Angel Melendez that was depicted in the Macaulay Culkin movie "Party Monster"— was deported to Canada in 2003. He'd pled guilty in 1999 to not paying $1.9 million in taxes and spent 60 days in jail, after he was acquitted of federal drug charges in 1996.

His many New York clubs, like Limelight and the Tunnel, were the scenes of constant drug raids during their heyday.

Elvis And The Birth Of Rock Released.

Originally due for release December 2006, but available now is the book "Elvis And The Birth Of Rock" with photographs from Lew Allen.

The large format book, published by Genisis Publications, is "a remarkable collection of mainly unseen photographs of the great, early rock & roll stars: Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, Bobby Darin, Frankie Avalon and many more" .

For the Elvis fans the 27 pictures of Elvis Presley are the most interesting.

On November 23rd, 1956 a 17-year-old boy from Cleveland, a keen photographer who worked for his high school newspaper, was invited to photograph Elvis Presley at the Cleveland Arena, Ohio. A labour strike at the three major newspapers in Cleveland meant that Lew Allen was the only photographer at the show.

Only 1750 copies of the book have been made; a regular edition for 250 pounds (1400 copies signed an numbered) and 350 copies in a deluxe edition which comes with 3 signed and numbered limited edition prints of Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers and Bobby Darin for 395 pounds.

   Major Update On Elvis-History.Com

Elvis-History.com was started May 1, 2001 and now more than 5 years later we have climbed a major step on the ladder of what this website should be.

A unique archive for Elvis related events. A lot of websites have biographies about the king online that start in 1935 and end with Elvis’ passing in 1977.

www.Elvis-History.com  has more. It features like a day by day diary events that took place during Elvis’ life and also from 1977 until today.

With today’s update we have now in the English section each year available and you can get information on movies, recordings, concerts and things that happened in Elvis’ life.

We will now concentrate to translate the missing years in German language and work from now on on filling the page with tons of pictures and historical documents and little surprises.

Your help is appreciated. No matter if you want to submit articles from newspapers, CD or Vinyl scans, pictures or want to help with the translations – You are welcome.

Is Elvis Still Alive?

Adam Muskiewicz and his company “The Truth About Elvis” is currently working on a movie about this question.

A Letter from the Filmmaker

Dear Elvis Fans,

My name is Adam Muskiewicz. Not too long ago, a friend told me that he heard a credible story about Elvis Aron Presley being alive and well. I strongly doubted his story, but I decided that it would make a great basis for a documentary film.

I’ve seen the tabloids, and I know that the hoaxing of Elvis’ death is a well-known myth that many people have exploited. Although this myth seems to have evolved into a long-running joke, there are still many unanswered questions about Elvis. I have always been curious as to why this myth has lingered so long. Does it have merit?

Even the commonly reported story about the death of Elvis is incomplete, so I will explore the facts from all angles to find the actual truth.

In the end, I truly hope to uncover why and how Elvis left us, whether by death or by the staging of it. I decided to call my film “The Truth About Elvis.”

If you have any tips, leads or sightings that might be helpful, please email them to me at: truthaboutelvis@yahoo.com.

I will post some of your leads on the site. (Note: I will leave private or sensitive content off of the site at your request.)

Check out our site, www.ElvisWanted.com  We're offering a major reward for proof that Elvis is alive.

I will do my best to make this film accurate and respectful of Elvis’ legacy.

Sincerely,
Adam Muskiewicz

Marketing Elvis Difficult Sell To Today's Youth.

Teenagers in the 1950s and '60s went wild over Elvis Presley, much to the consternation of their parents, but kids in the new millennium aren't so stirred by rock 'n' roll's original rebel.

"I can't try to sell somebody Elvis who doesn't know who he is . . . that he's not just some guy who's been gone for 30 years," said Paul Jankowski, chief of marketing for Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc.

Next year, three decades after Presley's death, the multimillion-dollar Elvis business will try to connect with a new generation of teenage fans.

"Our opportunity demographic is really going to be 12 to 34 (years old), with a sweet spot around the 18-24 area," Jankowski said.

Early in Presley's career, teenagers gathered at jukeboxes or around turntables. But now the music has moved to the Internet, on sites like MySpace and YouTube. Next year more film clips, photos and other material from the vast Presley archives will be showing up online.

"We will take our My-Space page and we will focus on expanding our number of friends on My-Space, that kind of thing," Jankowski said. "There's all kinds of Elvis content on YouTube, things that we put up, things that fans put up."

MySpace is a social-networking site that lets visitors share photos and personal web pages. YouTube lets users post and share videos.

Moving Elvis content online should be easy; making Elvis cool again will be more difficult. After all, for most kids, Elvis is the music of their parents' -- or grandparents' -- generation.

Aaron O'Connell, a 17-year-old from Fredericksburg, Va., said it could be tough to make Elvis relevant again.

"Probably in today's world, like, he wouldn't be as cool, but back then he probably was," said O'Connell, a high school junior.
