Perhaps the biggest movie star ever to work with Elvis, Barbara Stanwyck brought a touch of the “Old Hollywood” glamour and professionalism to Roustabout. Though nominated four times, she never  won an Oscar but did receive an honorary Oscar in 1981 for her contributions to screen acting. She died in 1990.

Synopsis; Charlie Rogers (Elvis) looses yet another job because of his attitude towards the customers. He straps his guitar on his back and leaves on his motorcycle. He gets an accident, and his motorcycle is damaged. It will take a while before the new parts will arrive, so he starts working as a roustabout at  a carnival run by Maggie Morgan (Barbara Stanwyck). At the carnival, he meets Cathy Lean (Joan Freeman), whose father isn’t so excited about the starting romance. The carnival is in financial troubles, but when Charlie starts to sing, the money floats in. But again, his bad attitude gets in the way and everything is  falling apart. After a fight with one of the customers he decides to leave, and accepts an offer from a rival carnival. With Charlie gone, Maggie’s carnival is in real danger for shutting down. As a last change, Cathy goes to find Charlie, and begs him to start working for Maggie again. He agrees, wins the heart of Cathy,  and saves Maggie’s carnival.
