Loving You was the first Elvis Presley film by Hal Wallis, the veteran Hollywood producer  who had signed Elvis to a movie contract the year before. Hal Wallis, a respected veteran of the film industry, worked in Hollywood from the silent era through the 70’s. Of the nine films that Wallis produced starring Elvis, his favorite was King Creole.

He once said that one of the biggest regrets in his career was that he was not able to follow through on his idea for a western starring John Wayne as an old gunfighter  with Elvis as his protégé. Hal Wallis died in 1986.

The script for Loving You was loosely based on Elvis’ real-life career experiences, and references to Elvis were included in the film

Dolores Hart made her screen debut in Loving You and also played the good girl in King Creole. According to Elvis, “was the nicest girl I’ve ever met.” It was a shock for Elvis when he heard that Dolores Heart retired from screen acting to become a nun.

Elvis’ father, Vernon Presley, appeared in two of Elvis’s films, Loving You And Live A Little, Love A Little. Elvis’s mother, Glady’s Presley, also appeared in Loving You. After the death of his mother, Elvis never saw this movie again.
