Elvis brought some of his own experiences to this film; intertwining memories he had of his own reactions towards situations that weren’t always as glittering behind the scenes as they were up on the bandstand of a lush nightclub. The film, he later said, was like reliving a bad dream that had to be gotten out of his system.

Synopsis;  Dany Fisher supports himself and his unemployed father by doing old jobs at the cheap clubs and sleazy nightspots in the French Quarter of New Orleans. One morning he heads over the Blue Shade to mop up, and he finds an all-night drinking party which is stiil in progress. After being forced to sing a song, he recues Ronnie. Ronnie, property of Maxie Fields, wants to break away from him but doesn't dare. During this action, Danny is late for school and gets into a fight with a classmate who sees Ronnie kiss him goodbye and is told by the principal that he will not graduate. Danny leaves school and gets in contact with Shark, whose brother was beaten by Danny. Despite the odds, Danny wins the fight and Shark asks him to join his gang. Back home, Danny's father announces that he has a new job in a drugstore and ask Danny to return to school. Instead Danny joins Shark and his friends, acting as a decoy by singing while they rob a store.

That night Danny is working at the Blue Shade, when Ronnie walks in with Maxie, who knows something is up when Danny says hello but Ronnie plays likes she doesn't know him. She covers by saying that she heard him sing a couple of times. Maxie wants the prove that he can sing, and Danny sing "Trouble"to him. Danny is offered a job by Charlie LeGrand, owner of the "King Creole." Danny accepts his offer, is a big hit and packs the King Creole Nightly. Maxie wants Danny to work for him, but when he refuses, he let Shark beat his father ending up in the hospital.

In a rage, Danny gives Maxie a terrible beating, setting every hoodlum in town after him. In a dramatic scene, maxie kills Ronnie and is himself killed by one of his own men. Danny returns to the King Creole and his family.

King Creole was based on the novel called “A Stone For Danny Fisher.” The storyline involved a young boxer in New York City whose career is threatened when he becomes involved with mobsters. James Dean was considered  for the role of Danny Fisher but was killed by a car incident. The 2nd choice was Elvis, so they made some major changes in the script to accommodate Elvis’ talents. Danny Fisher became a young singer with a new sound , and the action was transplanted to New Orleans.
