Johnny Depp To Play Elvis In New Movie?

JOHNNY Depp wants to play Elvis Presley on the big screen.

The Pirates of The Caribbean star is said to be considering the lead role in a new Elvis biopic which would concentrate on the events leading up to his death.

“Johnny has always been fascinated by strong characters and inspirational people like Elvis,” reveals a source close to the actor.

“He is excited by the idea of a movie focusing on the dark side of Elvis and his later years as a superstar and an icon. It’s still early days but this is a project Johnny is very keen to get off the ground.”

Depp was recently reported to have splashed out on an $17 million home in Venice after falling in love with the city during filming last year.

The 47-year-old actor spent several months in the Italian city with his family while shooting The Tourist with Angelina Jolie and he was reportedly so besotted with the stunning location, he has bought the 17th century Palazzo Dona Sangiantoffetti.

According to local newspaper La Nuova Venezia, the Hollywood star outbid an Arab prince for the empty building which is one of the only available homes overlooking the famous Grand Canal.
