Hi, Barbara, I know it wasn't easy (to catch a big fish,so to speak ) to have you do an interview with me.
A matter of fact; you only done three interview in the last twenty years that coincide your relation with Elvis and went public the first time with Albert Goldman, that took you more then Ten years to get over that big hang
over you got from that Goldman , I'm sorry if ididn't mention Mister Goldman...lol
You had the oppurtunity to set things right with a reliable writer Peter
Guralnick in the end of the 90's and then in the year 2002 MarshallTerill , your co-author and protector... lol , of your latest book made a kind of review / interview for you, so everyone was allowed to publish that in the media.
But I guess I am the first person in your life that really has a "" Heart to Heart Talk"" with you ,that goes public Barbara...could you tell the Ep.Gold. readers how this interview made it possible and I must admit I was pissed of ( excuse me, my language.... lol) that suddenly Marhal Terrill wanted to have the interview published that he already officially did with you, but everybody had that interview published ,nothing
spectacular for me...you know me, Barbara ,
I like Exclusive interviews for my readers on Ep.Gold
That makes it interesting for me and my readers and I am able to go a bit further with some questions than normal interviewers do,
I am known to be naughty, lol.
I remember you told me;"" Andylon you can ask me anything, but not about my sex llfe with Elvis and if I wanted to know more about it, I should read your
book"".
I told you, I am not interested in Elvis and his sex life, that is private ( what do I care how, what or whom he did it with, if it made him happy, fine with me, that's something that belongs in the bedroom, Barbara, but serious.........tell me Barbara was he good.?..... hihi....
Elvis was a very private man who never allowed anyone in the bathroom while he was there so basically I didn't think he'd appreciate me talking about how he was in bed. I can say that he loved women and loved all women. He was a normal healthy sexy man who loved sex when he was up for it. He loved to cuddle, kiss and knew the art of love making too. He was a good lover when he wanted to be, tender and sensual. He was the best kisser ever! -
I think Elvis had a lot of sex before I knew him and not so much after I met him as that was the time he started getting into his prescription drugs and the drugs can take away a man's drive to have sex. I would say that he had limited sex after 1973, or that was my experience with him. He still loved to cuddle, kiss and sleep close to me but his crazy drive for wild jailhouse-rock-sex was gone. He was a GREAT lover when he was into a woman and in the beginning of a relationship as so many men are. Actually, Andylon he was what I call a normal lover not into anything kinky with me although I did hear from the guys that he had several women at one time in his earlier days. I did not see that in him. Sometimes, in some ways, making love with Elvis was like making love in a church, a lot of reverence (smile).
Well, Barbara you know when I was young I wanted a handsome man, intelligent and money... now I am older and I am allready glad when I can get a plummer... if I ever get one...how low can you go ..lol.
Anyway you know "Fame and Fortune" ...sounds familiar that one-liner Barbara .. lol ..
Also " Rags to Riches".. sounds familiar too, ha.. for me it's more like this song Elvis sang : "Riches to Rags" ....lol
But tell me , you went through this too ha , fame... fortune.... rags too, Barbara and being rich?
Yes, I came for a very poor environment born in Ringgold, GA to parents that didn't have much and lived with my grandparents on their farm until we moved to Florida when I was 5. I spent most of my young adult years growing up in a children's home in Miami and then with foster parents until I married at a very young age to get away from the orphanage. At the age of 19 I moved to California with my husband and baby son. My husband hated California and wanted to go back to TN but I declined. I wasn't happy in that marriage as we married way too young and neither of us were mature enough to make a marriage work, so he left and went back to Tennessee and I stayed. My son and I remained in LA. From being all alone with my boy I worked from being a doctor's assistant to modeling, having an acting career then later on to meet and date some powerful & famous men. Elvis being the MOST famous of all. I did it all on my own!
And what about your private life in 2002 Barbara?
Too me, animals are the best thing in this world next to children and old people. I say old people as when we get older, we get wiser, nicer and see more of what life is all about which, makes most of us kinder. Children we all know are wonderful and usually a product of their upbringing and parental guidance. Animals are pure love unless taught to be otherwise and all they want to do is love and be fed. They're simple creatures unlike humans that are so complex. My cats are my best friends and I did rescue them all off the street. Snuitje and Nipper sound fabulous like they ARE your children as mine are my children. My Pooh never leaves my side from the time I get in my door until the time I leave my home. He 's everything to me! I love dogs too but somehow ended up with my cats as they needed rescuing and I just happened to be there. I feed the homeless cats at the garbage dump EVERY NIGHT on my way home from work and it gives me great pleasure to see empty bowls the next day. I also trap and find homes for the ones that will make great pets. Some are not good for the inside and those I release back to their outside world after I've had them fixed.
Son - My son Gerry died in February 1994 of AIDS. He was the sweetest person I've ever known and miss him terribly. I was with him when he took his last breath and the last thing he said was "mama" which, still makes me cry when I say that or even write that as I can hear him so faintly saying it then he fell back into his coma. He suffered only 4 months and that was a relief as some suffer so much longer. I did feel cheated as I thought I have more time to take care of him and be with him but it wasn't meant to be. God needed another angel and he called my son home.
Barbara we had three cats and one went a stray, we never found him ..
The two we still have are so wonderful, to us they are our children we even treat them like human beings,
they have so much a better live then us, hihi.. but you get so much love from them.
One is Snuitje, he is always day and night with my friend and the other Nipper stays day and night with me...
So my friend and I get both 100 % attention and love ...isn't that great and we both love our two cats, wouldn't miss them in the world.
Barbara, you told me you lost your son, ... that's must have been a big blow for you in this life.....did it changed your personality in life and view on the society and people?
When it is my time to go, I don't want people grieving for me as I've had the most glorious life. I would love to see a party with all my friends who are celebrating my life and not being sad. Some of my life was sad like, my childhood but all the joy that I shared with many interesting persons in my young adult life made up for all the misery I knew as a child. I was lucky and feel that my guardian angle has always been with me and continues to be. I'm not a religious person as an adult, as I feel religion is one's heart. To me the important thing is how we treat ourselves, other humans and the animals on this earth. That we treat everyone/everything with respect, love and humility. If one does this then they have achieved happiness because what is happiness, it is being the best that one can be and sharing with all who need you. To be compassionate and forgiving that is happiness for me.
I agree with everything you've said we are both animal lovers Barbara sometimes I feel cats are better then humans just because ....
I'm trying to make up for being irresponsible when I was younger and didn't take care of my one cat that got out and I never found her
so I rescued another one that looks just like her but doesn't give me any affection to pay back for being absent minded.
I think I've done it after 15 years of rescue.
My son was my only living son although I did have another boy he was born prematurely and now they are buried side by side in Tenn.
Maybe I will have my ashes cremated and buried in the grave with my son Gerry who was also cremated. he was the nicest person I know
and everyone loved him.
I personally don't care where I go just don't want anyone left spending too much money on me (ha).
I would like to ask you your favorite songs of Elvis single- album- Film
My favorite song is "It's Now or Never", don't know why just love the beat. I also love all Elvis's Christmas songs, they will put one in the spirit when nothing can.
My favorite movie was "Love Me Tender" as Elvis is so good and innocent in this movie. And, I also loved "Jail House Rock", it was so different.
Any other other favorite Artists, Barbara
Next to Elvis, I love the way Frank Sinatra sang and Freddie Mercury of Queen (who's both no longer with us either). My favorite actor is Christopher Plumber and Mel Gibson. And as far as a writer I love Steven King, and the old greats like HG Wells.
And your favorite Elvis Website.
I love EPGOLD.COM and am just now learning the others.
They always say Elvis was a great kisser, now you can tell me this Barbara , I keep it a secret...lol.
Elvis was great in bed when he wanted to be and his heart was into it. I say he was a little like he was in "Jail House Rock" full of energy and a little bad, with great moves. (ha). He was very endearing and loved women so anything he did came from the heart. HE WAS THE BEST KISSER OF ALL TIME!
Any plans going to Graceland?
Don't have any plans for Memphis, my main problem is working a full-time job with little vacation time off. I'd love to be invited but on has yet so that would matter a great deal. If I got invited, I might go for sure.
Did Priscilla ever knew you had a relation with Elvis and if so, how did she reacted, Barbara.
I don't think that Priscilla knew at the time we were having an affair, she probably found out much later when he died and after the Albert Goldman's horrible book was published. I liked Priscilla, and was respectful to her never touching any thing that belonged to her when I visited any of Elvis's homes. I didn't think about him being married, I saw a once-in-a-life-time-chance to meet and be with the King, how could I pass that up?
The answer is, I couldn't. I loved him!
Barbara, you were also SO much inlove with Steve Mc Queen.... tell me more about him.
I did adore Steve McQueen, he was a rebel boy/man who had a similar background to me and we connected immediately. He was a great actor and a challenge just like Elvis to keep his attention. He was also adored by many fans, by many women and at the height of his career when we dated and shot the movie "Junior Bonner" together. I did get pregnant with his child but wasn't emotionally stable in those days and made the wrong decision to abort. Something I've always regretted. I should have married him and had his baby but it wasn't meant to be and who knows if it would have worked out. Timing is everything in relationships and if both parties aren't ready it won't last. Steve was going through a middle-life-crises and it probably wasn't the best time for him. He did love me and asked to me to live with him after we shot the movie but I made another choice, I chose James Aubrey...a stupid move.
Barbara, were you so much in love with ...Steve Mqueen, you wanted to get married ?
If you had to choose between those three;
Wich person in the whole wide world did you loved the most and wanted to build a nice home.,children... Barbara.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have worked on getting Elvis that is only if he had divorced Priscilla as I think Elvis really loved her and it hurt him terrible when she left him. Then my second choice would be Steve but NOT the choice I made which, was Jim Aubrey. I chose my father figure.
Did Elvis ever gave you presents like Juwelery.
Elvis bought me all kinds of things like a car, clothes, jewelry, guns, books etc. He was THE MOST GENEROUS of ALL men and not only to me but to so many people as well. He loved to give, he loved to share and mostly he loved to teach. He would have made a great enlightened preacher who could have given many persons another way to see glory.
What is your favorite wish for the future Barbara ?
My wish for the future is to be healthy and find the right partner that I can share the rest of my life with. Out of the limelight and more of a peaceful, quite atmosphere. I do have a boyfriend of 7 years but he is not the one that I will share my final days with. I have yet to meet him1)
Oh, Andylon if the ElvisFans want to know more about my book they click on:
http://www1.xlibris.com/bookstore/bookdisplay.asp?bookid=13763. If you can't get it up then go to
www.Xlibris.com/bookstore and type in my name under search.
Well, thank you for being so detailed with facts, Barbara ..lol.
Anyway, who do you suggest we should interview the next time for the Ep.Gold readers, Barbara.
Andylon, the person I suggested is Don Wilson who is an Elvis Impersonator and also has worked for the 15-hour documentary ( Definitive Elvis) which will be airing shortly in Europe. He knows everything there is about Elvis. I can give you his email address.
Great Barbara, I will get in touch with him.
You told me you had other wishes in your life, Barbara....
I would say regarding myself that "I'm happy if anyone who reads my book enjoys their time".
"And, I want to always be in love".
And, then there's the BIG picture that everyone else is happy and in love too.
And, that we will ALL see Elvis again!
Then there's the winning the lottery (smile)
and if I ever did I'd share the money with the homeless animals and parents with children who live on the streets.
What a nice question Andylon, you are SO SWEET!
I'm going to Hef's Midsummer's Night party tomorrow at the Mansion, I love to go there because I visit all the animals the bird house and spend all my time either with the animals or dancing (ha). The animals Hef has are amazing, you'd love them if you like animals as I do
That's GREAT having a party with the animals and talk and dance... hihi, just love it.
Animals are MORE human than people ha.
And people can be Animals... sometimes ...lol.
Now serious,....oh I was serious talking about People and Animals... Barbara..lol.
Anything you would like to say to the Elvisfans on Ep.Gold. Barbara.
The only thing that I can say that I haven't already is that I loved Elvis as ALL you do and have always tried being respectful of his memory and worthy of his love. He lives forever in my heart and I know that one day we will ALL see him again. LONG LIVE THE KING!
Andylon, you're the best and I thank you for talking so much time and allowing me the opportunity to be a part of your WONDERFUL ELVIS WEBSITE!!!.
Much love to you ALWAYS! XOXO.
